COOKIES TO CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF ARITRI
It’s been four years since she left us. I often bake cookies with Aritri in my mind, as she was so fond of colors and had unique style and elegance. I like to imagine she would love some of the designs and tell me: keep baking, get that nail polish, yes, one more pair of earrings. Embrace life! That was her essence, and these bakes honor her memory.
The moment I saw this tulip Springerle mold I…

I was reminded yesterday when I met Lemon in the wild (see also in the studio of a bookbinder) that lemon plants have thorns! I had known this information (Dora had a Meyer lemon plant for a very long time that I used extensively in my magic in the past) but I must have forgotten.
And now I want a lemon tree so much more.
Sidenote: I do not have space for trees. At all.
Sidenote: I have been rooting two avocado pits and already don't know what I am going to do with those trees.
But in the scope of (indoor*) trees, citrus is a top priority magic-wise. I love to use lemon in my cleansing magic - I've used the rinds, I've used the juice - I've even used the sweet little flowers.
But thorns...
I love thorns. Top tier.
I have been trying to figure out how to bring living thorns inside my house already. Cactus aren't really my vibe (I love them but not the type of plant I prefer to keep in my space) so I have been considering other options. Lemon is a pretty good one.
(Sidenote: lemons need 10 hours of sunlight a day and are too big for my space - I am not going out to get one anytime soon. Just daydreaming out loud about a time when I will have space for really big plants)
*for me, I live in the North East

@cardicoven ‘s Plant Spirit Devotional 15 Day Challenge:
DAY 3: CULTIVATION, FORAGING, & PREPARATION
🍋Cultivation of Meyer lemon trees:
Best planted in early spring, Meyer lemon trees need special fertilizer/soil made for citrus trees. This is acidic soil, with ph from 5.5 to 6.5, and they need to be watered regularly with good drainage. Meyer lemon trees need eight hours of direct sunlight, and thrive in zones 9-11. They start bearing fruit at four years old.
🍋Foraging of Meyer Lemon Trees:
Don’t harvest Meyer lemons from their tree until they are DARK mustard yellow. They naturally turn darker yellow than other lemon varieties, and they are naturally sweeter while still maintaining a decent sour component. Harvest between December and April, depending on your zone, and depending on when the tree was planted.
🍋Preparation for Meyer lemons:
Preparing Meyer lemons for use is very easy and simple! Just rinse the lemon thoroughly, and slice! If you want to save the juice, juice it and freeze the juice so you can use for longer times! They make great additions to ice water to sip on, or jasmine green tea!

CRISPY ASPARAGUS SALAD WITH TOASTED BREAD CRUMBS
Spring: time to enjoy asparagus in all possible ways! I adapted this recipe from Alexandra’s blog. She always has great recipes, both savory and sweet. I have made it exactly as published, but decided to modify it by briefly running the cut asparagus in the microwave. You can skip that and follow Alexandra’s take if you prefer.
