Mickey Thompson put his boot in it at Bonneville in September 1968 and blasted his Class C 1969 Mustang Mach 1 to a new world record: 3,783 miles in a day. He beat the old 24-hour record by 405 miles. His average was 157.633 m.p.h.--a big 17 m.p.h. faster. He smashed 295 other records along the way.

It needs to be noted that Mickey took three Mustangs with him to Bonneville, a blue, yellow and red Mach 1. Although the blue Mach 1 is shown below, it was the yellow one that set the record. The driving chores were shared with Danny Ongais and Hot Rod editor Ray Brock.

The 10's haven't really caused that many casualties among these veteran musicians. Some settled in we-are-still-here phase. I mean, Bryan Adams continues to release many records, but they don't achieve the number of his 90's. Then again, he was also not really a part of them despite being highly successful then. He seemed to belong in spirit to a much different generation, which might the reason he followed the protocols of many older superstar peers in spite of his ge difference from them. He always felt like a 70's rocker that somehow travelled through time to the 80's. Thus, we should look at his current choices through that prism. For instance, I get why he did Tracks Of My Tears, an LP of covers, many at this stage do them. Still, should he do that as well, though?
