Summary: When complications arise on his mission, all he has is one phone call back to you. (Death Island! Leon x reader)
Word Count: 2.1K
Notes: It really does end here, huh? 🥹 This is the last post for this month. We have officially finished Angstober 2024. Thank you to everyone who liked, commented, reblogged, followed, and sent me things to my inbox. It's going to be weird not writing for you all every day, but you'll still see me around. I'm going to take a small break and write in the background, get through requests and stuff. I'm moving house and graduating at the same time so I might not post a whole lot till I'm settled again, but then you can count on me for more than angst!
General warnings for language use, spoilers for Death Island if you haven't seen it (you should it's quite funny), and a mildly OOC Leon but we can all be saps sometimes. Warping the events of the movie to my own benefit.
Enjoy our last post of this month, sweethearts~

━━━━━━━━━━━━━༻❁༺━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"You wanna make a call?" Chris grunts, looking down at him. Leon looks up at him, vision blurry and pain radiating through his body. His neck stings from where the microdrone bit him, and he can no longer feel anything from his thighs down, just a numb tingle. He has to consciously remind himself to breathe, in through the nose and out through the mouth.
"You got- you got a way?" he rasps back, eyes scrunching in confusion. Chris nods, the bigger man bucking slightly against the cell wall he's leaning against.
"Left- left pocket." he grits out. "Claire got the signal through before we got bit. It's only strong enough for one call, then Dylan's framework will probably patch it."
Leon sighs, head hitting the rusted bars of Alcatraz. This had been another run of the mill mission, find the missing scientist selling government secrets, pack him up and ship him back to the government to be trialled at court. In the true fashion of his 'run of the mill missions', nothing went according to that plan and veered off into a clusterfuck as usual. The BSAA had been involved chasing their own leads, and he had run into Jill in the sewers running from zombies. the plague that seemed to follow him like a shadow ever since he left Raccoon as a young and very traumatised cop.
He was supposed to get in and out, wrap it up so he could come home to you like he promised. As he sat there writhing, he wondered what the look on your face would be if he wasn't able to make it to the cruise that you had both planned. You had lobbied both him and the DSO for a holiday, and after many angry letters and snatching the phone out of his hand to yell at his supervisor, you had succeeded in getting him two months off. Without hesitation you had booked the both of you on a cruise, shushing him every time he had tried to protest.
If he was being honest, just sleeping at home would have been enough. He could barely remember the last time that he had sat down or stopped for a moment. The days that he was at the office or on a mission blurred together so often that he was beginning to forget what colour you had both decided to paint the kitchen, making him falter when coworkers made small talk with him in the staff room. Which side of the bed you preferred to sleep on, what bills needed to be paid first, whether the spare bedroom was being turned into an office or a workshop or not. It was when his forgetfulness led him to forget what month it was and being blindsided to your own anniversary that he finally snapped out of it.
You had been sitting on the porch steps dressed in your finery, watery eyes looking up at him as he pulled into the driveway, your knees pulled to your chest. He had jumped from the car like you were shot, the realisation of what he had done thrumming hard in his chest. "I'm so sorry" he had murmured into your hair, holding you tight. "I am so so sorry."
You had just sniffled in response and eventually gave him a weak hug back, and he clung to that like a lifeline. He swore that he would never fuck up like that again, and he intended to keep that promise.
So, he had relented to the cruise vacation, telling himself that he would be able to relax and unwind on the seas and out of service of work. They could call another agent for once, he wanted to focus on nothing but the smile you wore as you got to carry out the couple things he felt he had denied you your entire relationship. Getting to use the swim up bar, taking photos together, dressing in matching clothes for the cheesy cruise quiz nights. If that was what you wanted, that is what he was going to give you. Besides, it gave him a chance to relish in you again.
You, who had cancelled the wedding of your dreams to get married at the courthouse with him when he got called away suddenly and you weren't sure if you would see him again. You had been married within hours with the rings he had picked and you in the finest you could find on such short notice. He had thought you looked stunning, even if the lighting was the harsh LED of the courthouse and not candles like you had wanted.
You, who had put up with months of him being gone, not knowing if he was dead or alive. Who had to stay up late tracking the news for crumbs of his whereabouts, only able to make guesses to where he might have been assigned. Every death, every bioterrorist attack overseas carrying the possibility that Leon's body was among those being pulled from the carnage.
You, who he was calling right now with the jacked cell phone from Chris's pocket, dial tone droning on.
Leon had been stung last, used as nothing more than an example to show off the latest weapon in the bioterror market. Yet he was losing feeling fast, much faster than Chris or even Claire struggling in the other cell. It was like his atoms were screaming at him, writhing in him at a molecular level. Breathing felt like it was through a damp cloth, lungs having to work twice as hard to suck oxygen into his lungs. His eyelids were struggling to stay awake and fight off the black curtains that floated in the corners. he could see the way that the others looked at him, with pity and with concern. As soon as he had caught the eye of Chris, saw the flicker of fear cross the usually confident man's face, he knew that he was reacting worse than all of them.
So here he was, heart in his throat as he prepared to tell you the words he hadn't been expecting to say when he left that morning. When the line doesn't pick up he curses, waiting for the tone. He wasn’t going to waste his chance.
"Hi! If I haven't picked up, I can't come to the phone right now. If you leave a message, I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Please wait for the beep, thank you!"
He smiles to himself at the chipper tone of your voice, sounding heaven sent even through the phone. When he hears the tone he takes a deep breath, as big as he can and puts a fake smile on his face. He hopes that it makes his tone come out just a little sweeter for you, even though he knows that you'll be worried regardless.
"Hey, Sweetheart." he starts, voice raspy. "I'm sorry to be calling you like this. I just wanted to call to hear your voice. I-I missed you. I know you didn’t pick up, so you're probably busy. Now don't call me back immediately, I... won’t be able to pick up for a while. I just...damnit I wanted to just hear you." He grits out, head falling against the bars as he loses strength in his neck. He catches eyes with Chris, the older man's eyes misting over as he looks down at him before he turns his head away, the most privacy he can give him in the situation.
"I just wanted to call to let you know that I love you...and I miss you." he begins again. With his eyes closed the words come easier, the image of you flitting into his mind's eye. You look at him in his spectral vision with a smile, encouraging him to go on. He feels his chest ease, like he's actually talking to you, and the both of you are the only ones in the room. "I know you're going to worry. I know this doesn't sound good-" he grits his teeth against another hot flash of pain. "And... it’s not." he finishes. "I want to tell you…that I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I don't think I'm gonna make it home tonight, baby. I... I might not make it back from this." he tries to chuckle, but the sound is dry, and the effort hurts his chest. "Things got bad here, and it's not looking good. I think- I think it ends here, honey. If I don't make it just...just, please look after yourself."
He takes a shaky breath, and the silence of everyone around him is deafening. The scene is oddly private and uncomfortable for the others in the vicinity, while the usually ever-energetic man known as Leon delivers his verbal will. "I know you won’t want to go, but go on that cruise. You worked hard for it, and you were so excited. I wanted to go swimming with you, fall asleep by the pool and pretend it was the honeymoon I owe you. So, I want you to still go on it. Even if I don't come back...I'll ask the big man above to let me hang around long enough to do it with you, even if you won't be able to see me. I made a promise remember? No more missing big things." he whispers into the phone.
His throat is beginning to hurt, like speaking around a sharp lump every time he formed a word. "And the house is yours, it should go into your name. The car, everything, you'll have it all. I just...I just wish it could have been different, you know?" he says into the receiver, that has begun to waver by his cheek. "But it is what it is, and I guess it finally caught up to me. I'm sorry I was such a shitty husband." he says, a light tremor in his voice. "I wish I had come home to you more, not left the bed cold. I wish I could have made you more dinners and more breakfasts in bed, just to show you how much I loved you. I love you. I love you so much it hurts. I never told it to you enough, or managed to even put into actions just how much you mean to me, but I do. You mean everything, sweetheart." he chokes into the phone, a small smile on his face. "I love you more than anything, so...so don't think anything else, okay? This isn't your fault. It never was. You were the best thing that ever happened to me, you hear me? So you pick yourself up when I'm gone," he gasps out, hand beginning to waver. "You put yourself back in that saddle, and you show the world just how strong you are. Show them the person I fell in love with." he says with a smile, before breaking into a fit of painful coughs.
"Don't stay up, sweetheart. Get to bed early. I miss you, more than you'll ever know." he coughs out into the receiver before his body can't hold him up anymore and he slides down the bars until his cheek is pressing into the concrete, hand falling to his side and phone clattering against the stone. He can hear the tone end, and the automated whoosh sound as the voicemail sends. With bleary eyes he can make out the turned head of Claire, looking down at him with wobbling lips and tear-filled eyes.
"Look after 'em, hey?" he rasps out, pain in his chest stabbing as the black curtains begin to slide across his vision. Claire nods, and he can hear Chris grunt in the background. Leon falls into an unconsciousness shortly after, the smiling image of you the last thing he holds close to him as the blackness swallows him completely. As his body stills, a small smile is frozen on his face, the arrogant half tilted smirk he so loved to give you.

Full Shift: Yields complete quadrupedal canine form with high locomotion efficiency, camouflage benefit, and enhanced field mobility.
B. Structural Integrity & Recovery
Accelerated Tissue Regeneration: Healing factor calibrated to 4.7× human baseline; bone fractures re-knit in <24 hrs under monitored stasis.
Immune Compensation: Near-total resistance to conventional pathogens and most field-grade toxins.
Blood Reoxygenation Efficiency: Elevated hemoglobin turnover rate for extended physical exertion without hypoxia.
SECTION II: SENSORIAL AND PHYSICAL ENHANCEMENTS
A. Sensory Expansion
Olfactory Resolution: 40× human range. Capable of isolating individual scent trails from mixed source environments (urban, battlefield, subterranean).
Auditory Range: Detects ultrasonic emissions up to ~62 kHz. Has been used to triangulate active listening devices and microdrones.
Night Vision Equivalent: Tapetum lucidum layer in canine form provides low-light visual acuity rivaling next-gen thermal optics.
B. Physical Conditioning

Agility & Speed: Max quadrupedal velocity recorded at 58 km/h (full sprint).
Climatic Adaptation: Fur density modulation in canine form provides heat insulation in low-temp environments.
SECTION III: COGNITIVE PROFILE & BEHAVIORAL PERFORMANCE
A. Tactical Intelligence
Maintains operational cognition during transformation. No evidence of regression to feral behavior unless provoked by trauma triggers (see Incident #091).
Proficient in abstract planning, real-time threat analysis, and independent vector rerouting under compromised comms.
B. Emotional Regulation
Suppressed affect during operations. Exhibits high detachment, particularly in canine state.
Displays intuitive reading of emotional cues from both human and animal subjects. Empathic mimicry appears tactical rather than authentic.
C. Canine Subject Interaction
Capable of issuing non-verbal commands to domestic dogs and ferals. Effective in disrupting or redirecting threats posed by trained K9 units.
Behavioral reinforcement strategies suggest intuitive understanding of canine dominance hierarchies.
SECTION IV: TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT INTERFACE
Device: VOX-HALO UNIT 7 (Speech Relay Collar)
Purpose: Enables Shepherd to communicate in canine form via neural impulse-to-speech synthesis.
Construction: Titanium-carbide housing; layered biometric mesh; embedded Q-band encryption node.
Functionality: Interprets subvocal electrical signals and brainwave patterns to articulate human-equivalent language output.
Limitations:
Latency (~250–300 ms) under stress conditions Signal disruption in EM-dense zonesRequires re-sync post-shift for phoneme calibration
SECTION V: OPERATIONAL SPECIALIZATIONS
Bio-Tracking & Residue Analysis (real-time genetic target ID through scent/vocal trace matching)
Counter-Persona Interrogation Resistance (fragmented memory encoding prevents strategic leaks if captured)
Behavioral Manipulation (direct influence over canine populations; contextual manipulation of human behavioral cues)
Tactical Foresight & Pattern Anticipation (predictive modeling in unpredictable terrain)
Environmental Navigation & Substructure Mapping (notably high spatial memory in complex architecture)
Long-Term Surveillance in Hostile Terrain (maintains passive reconnaissance in feral state undetected)
Pack-based Engagement Strategies (demonstrates ability to coordinate with autonomous or semi-autonomous canine assets)
SECTION VI: LIMITATIONS AND RISK FACTORS
Shift Instability Under Neurological Stress: Intense psychological or physical duress can cause involuntary shifting or memory fragmentation.
Feral Lock States: Extended time in canine form can lead to suppressed human identity markers; subject may become unresponsive to recall protocols.
Verbal Delay in Shifted Form: Despite the VOX-HALO collar, speech output remains delayed and prone to error in rapid-communication scenarios.
Hostile Conditioning Thresholds: Displays lower resistance to certain ultrasonic frequencies used in anti-animal deterrents.
Emotional Dysregulation Triggers: Strong emotional stimuli related to past trauma (see Incident #030) can disrupt task focus and cause aggression or withdrawal.
Operational Limitation Post-Morphogenic Exposure Risk Evaluation Summary: Shepherd undergoes full cellular deconstruction and reformation during morphogenic transitions between human and caniform states. Upon reversion to human form, all integrated clothing, tactical equipment, and external gear are nullified by the biological transmutation process. The subject re-emerges nude, without protective coverage or field-ready attire.
Operational Risks Identified:
Environmental Exposure: Susceptibility to hypothermia, chemical agents, or abrasions in uncontrolled terrain.
Tactical Vulnerability: Immediate post-shift incapacity to engage, defend, or retreat due to lack of armor or armament.
Unit Disruption: Potential for distraction, morale disruption, or psychological discomfort among human personnel.
Public Exposure Risk: In civilian-adjacent operations, post-shift emergence could compromise mission secrecy and provoke incident escalation.
Discretion Protocol: Visual engagement of Shepherd during reversion is to be limited. Non-essential visual contact is to be restricted.
Additional Notes: The issue remains physiological and currently unresolvable via augmentation without compromising morphogenic fluidity. A prosthetic gear-retention solution is under review but deemed non-viable in rapid-shift scenarios as of the latest R&D cycle.
SECTION VII: INCIDENT LOG EXCERPTS
Incident #030 – Exposure to Stimulus ("Whistle Echo Variant") Date: 14 Jan 2023 Outcome: Temporary feral lock lasting 5h17m. Operative displayed territorial aggression. No operatives injured. Induced via unknown high-frequency pattern in proximity mine.
Incident #091 – Tactical Disengagement (Morocco Urban Cleft) Date: 26 Sep 2024 Outcome: Subject entered canine form mid-assault and failed to re-establish identity for 3.4 hours. Autonomous escape and later regrouping suggest partial operational memory retention. Collar data lost in transit.
Incident #117 – Forced Capture Test Date: 09 Feb 2025 Outcome: Subject resisted physical interrogation for 72 hours. Under simulated neural interrogation, subject's memory nodes shifted erratically, preventing clean data extraction.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE [CONFIDENTIAL – REDACTED]
Diagnosed with Controlled Identity Dissociation due to dual consciousness bleed Behavioral Overlay: Canine Imprinting ResidualsCompulsion: Cataloging animal trauma in encrypted field logs Displays signs of interspecies empathy inversion: higher emotional response to canines than humans Regular debriefings required post-shift to confirm cognitive cohesion Trust rating: Satisfactory (fluctuating) Loyalty tier: ██ (Observed Deviations) Note: Obedience - Absolute.
Watchlist Tag: "If he breaks, do not attempt containment. End him."
Behavioral Note (per Division Psych Lead): “If Shepherd is lost to his canine identity mid-field, he becomes invisible—but also irretrievable. We don’t track him when he's in that state. We observe. From afar.”

LIMITATIONS
Canine Phenotypic Shift Cognitive Decline: Upon full transformation into canine morphology, higher-order executive functions and complex tactical reasoning are significantly impaired, resulting in reliance on instinctual behaviors that may hinder mission-specific objectives.
Verbal Communication Restriction: In canine form, expressive communication is limited to nonverbal signaling and basic command comprehension, thereby reducing effective real-time coordination with human operatives. To mitigate this, a custom-engineered neural-linked collar—designated Vox-Halo Unit 7—has been implemented.
Sensory Modality Vulnerability: Exposure to extreme environmental factors such as hyperthermia or toxic chemical agents attenuates olfactory and other heightened sensory functions, diminishing tracking and detection capacity.
Physical Trauma Susceptibility: Despite augmented regenerative and endurance capabilities, Shepherd remains vulnerable to high-impact ballistic trauma and sustained blunt force injuries, which transiently impair operational effectiveness.
Engagement Range Limitation: Combat proficiency is primarily restricted to close-quarters; proficiency with ranged weaponry is suboptimal, necessitating support elements for medium to long-range threat neutralization.
Cognitive-Identity Disassociation: Prolonged duration in canine form or repeated canine-hominid identity shifts may precipitate episodes of cognitive disorientation or temporary loss of self-awareness, compromising operational reliability.
Cybernetic Maintenance Dependency: Enhanced physical and sensory augmentations require scheduled recalibration and maintenance; operational degradation occurs in the absence of routine servicing or if systems are compromised.
Infiltration Countermeasure Sensitivity: Although adept in unconventional infiltration, Shepherd’s biological and sensory enhancements are susceptible to detection by advanced biometric and bio-signature surveillance technologies.
Manual Dexterity Deficiency: The canine anatomical form imposes significant limitations on fine motor skills, restricting capability for complex tool manipulation, technical sabotage, or field repairs.
Psychological Stress Response: Exposure to high-stress combat environments or trauma-associated stimuli can induce atypical behavioral responses, including heightened aggression or withdrawal, necessitating ongoing psychological evaluation and support.

HMND 01
Another bland, all-purpose chassis. The control systems look modular—good for rapid prototyping. No clear edge in autonomy or payload. Could be a solid testbed for LAWS compliance modules. Would need serious upgrades for real combat utility. Not impressed, but not dismissing it either.
JAKA K1
Boxy, utilitarian. Classic industrial design—prioritizes durability over grace. Would slot in as a logistics mule or ammo carrier, but mobility constraints are obvious. A good candidate for AR-based remote control overlays. I wonder if it could double as a decoy unit in urban environments?
GR-1 (Fourier Intelligence)
Some intriguing actuation here—almost bio-inspired. The focus on rehab and elderly care is endearing, but I see potential for dual-use in battlefield casualty extraction or medical simulation. Human-in-the-loop is feasible, but the platform screams for more autonomy. Would love to test its gait stability in rough terrain.
KUAVO-MY
Looks like a research platform—good for rapid iteration and code injection. Not much armor or redundancy, but the open architecture is a plus. Could be prototyped for swarm tactics or as a sensor-forward scout. The lack of obvious weapon mounts is both a relief and a missed opportunity.
STAR1
Sleek, but form over function. Likely more useful in PR stunts or as a non-lethal presence in peacekeeping ops. If I were to retrofit, I’d focus on CBRN sensor integration. Its humanoid profile makes it an ideal candidate for AR deception tactics—simulate friendly or enemy units on the fly.
KANGAROO (PAL Robotics)
Intriguing leg design. High mobility could be leveraged for quick-strike or urban recon—especially in environments unsuited to wheeled robots. Not enough payload space for heavy weapons, but could run interference or deliver microdrones. If only the developers thought beyond logistics.
DR01 (Deep Robotics)
Standard warehouse bot, but robust. Could retrofit for automated resupply under fire or as a shield platform for advancing infantry. I’d love to stress-test its fail-safes—most civilian systems crumble under jamming. With enough ruggedization, could be a sleeper hit for rear-echelon support.
CLONE ALPHA
Uncanny valley in full effect. Maybe useful for psychological ops or as a decoy. Not much info on its internal architecture—probably just another platform for gesture and interaction studies. If it’s hackable, it’s exploitable. Maybe I’m being too harsh; sometimes you need a wild card.
ADAM (PANDORAS)
Looks like a modular testbed. Exposed actuators are a vulnerability, but easy for rapid prototyping. Could run complex manipulations—maybe bomb disposal or field repairs. I’d like to run it through a simulated combat scenario; the learning algorithms are probably underdeveloped.
MENTEEBOT
Educational focus is noble, but soft targets like these are often overlooked as threat vectors. Could easily be repurposed for crowd control or non-lethal compliance. The black-box autonomy concerns me—need full transparency on decision-making for battlefield deployment.
APOLLO
Industrial humanoid with battlefield potential. Chassis and design hint at decent load capacity. With proper AI weapons integration, could serve as force multiplier—though I’d never trust it unsupervised. Human-in-the-loop is a must. Strong candidate for “guardian” role in Warren’s hypothetical reincarnated team.
OPTIMUS GEN2 (Tesla)
Musk’s hype aside, it’s the most media-savvy bot here. If the neural net is as strong as claimed, it could be a game-changer for integrated logistics and resupply. However, I’d bet on a thousand edge cases that could break it under stress. Would love to see it in a mixed-reality war game—provided it’s not just vaporware.
Final Thoughts: All show promise, but none are ready for true LAWS integration without strict regulatory and ethical oversight. The irony isn’t lost on me—designing more lethal systems while demanding more human control. Maybe that’s my father’s ghost talking, or maybe it’s just the reality of our times. I’ll light incense for these prototypes—not for luck, but to remind myself: tools are only as wise as their creators, and war never needs more fools.

Words cannot describe how much I want Frankie to be a playable character in game.
Because not only is she just a cool character but we haven't gotten a "bug" themed hero yet and I think she could fit the bill with her Mircodrones.
Like her ult could be called "Swarm" were she summons a bunch of microdrones to do.... something, idk I haven't thought that far yet. She could also have an ability like Hanzo sonic arrows or Widows ult but instead of showing the location of a bunch of people it shows the location of one and it lasts until the drone is destroyed.
I just want another hacker type character in the game dude and Frankie is a perfect fit!
Well her and Lynx 17 but this post ain't about them-

Choosing the Best Indoor Drone and Parts in 2023: A Comprehensive Guide
Why Fly Indoor Drones?
Flying indoor drones offers a range of compelling reasons. There are different types of indoor drones suitable for various purposes. Here are some common justifications for indoor drone flying and the best indoor drone for each scenario:
For Fun: Toy drones, often referred to as microdrones, are ideal for fun indoor flights.
For Practice: Toy indoor drones are great for practice. You can also use commercial drones with add-on cages to practice flying.
For Racing: Racing drones are designed for high-speed, competitive indoor flying.
For Work: Professional indoor drones are essential for work-related tasks like inspections, data collection, or 3D modeling.
What Are the Benefits of Indoor Drones? Indoor FPV flying offers several advantages, including:
All-Weather Flying: Indoor drones can be flown regardless of the weather conditions, making them ideal for areas with inclement weather.
Improved Control: Indoor flying allows for precise control in a controlled environment.
Skill Enhancement: It's an excellent option for beginners to practice and improve their flying skills.
Year-Round Activity: Indoor FPV flying is not weather-dependent, making it a year-round hobby.
Safety: Flying indoors reduces the risks associated with outdoor flights, such as collisions with structures or power lines.
Best Mini Indoor Drone Kit
Mini indoor drones, often called "toothpicks," are lightweight and suitable for indoor flying. They typically weigh under 60 grams without the battery and use 2.5" triblade or 65mm bi-blade propellers. Here are some key considerations for choosing a mini indoor drone:
Cost
Component quality and selection
Overall design
Ease of setup
Flight performance
Happymodel Sailfly-X 2.5 Inch Toothpick
The Happymodel Sailfly-X is an excellent choice for a 2.5-inch toothpick indoor FPV drone. It's known for its lightweight design, versatility, and speed. The option to use both 2S and 3S batteries provides flexibility in terms of speed and agility. However, the range is somewhat limited due to the integrated SPI receiver. The fixed camera angle may be too aggressive for tight courses, but it offers good value for the price.
T-Motor Feather120 3 Inch Toothpick
The T-Motor Feather120 stands out for its quiet operation, making it an excellent choice for indoor flying. It offers ample power, high efficiency, and longer flight times. However, the low KV motors and heavy, high-pitch propellers make it less responsive.
Best Indoor Micro Drone Parts
For indoor micro drones, you need the right components for optimal performance. Here are some essential parts for 65mm and 75mm micro drones:
Battery (1S or 2S, depending on your drone)
Motor (suggested models)
Frame
Propeller
Flight Controller
ExpressLRS Receivers
Essential 65mm Micro Drone Parts
Battery: Consider LiHV batteries with the PH2.0 connector.
Motor: MEPS 0802 motors offer a good balance of size and power.
Frame: Options like BetaFPV Meteor65 Frame and NewBeeDrone V2 Cockroach Frame are robust choices.
Propeller: Gemfan 1208 Triblade 1mm Shaft props are suitable for 65mm tiny whoops.
Essential 75mm Micro Drone Parts
Battery: Choose 1S or 2S batteries, such as BetaFPV 1S 450mAh (BT2) or GNB 1S 450mAh (PH2).
Motor: MEPS SZ1103 motors are efficient and generate minimal heat.
Frame: The HAPPYMODEL MOBULA7 75MM / 1S ANALOG frame is a solid option.
Propeller: HQProp 40MM 3-Blade Micro 1.5mm Shaft props are excellent for 75mm tiny whoops.
Flight Controllers
A compact AIO flight controller, like the BetaFPV F4 FC, offers low latency ExpressLRS and reliable performance. It includes a blackbox chip for easy tuning and detachable motor plugs.
ExpressLRS Receivers
ExpressLRS is an excellent choice for Tiny Whoops, offering long-range capabilities and telemetry support. While it may have a learning curve, its performance and flexibility make it worth the effort.
Best Indoor Drones for Filming
For indoor filming, you have two options:
2 Inch Cinewhoop: The GEPRC Cinelog 20 is a favorite among FPV drone enthusiasts. It comes in analog and digital versions, with the latter offering better image quality. Its compact design and dampened camera platform ensure high-quality video.
2.5 Inch Cinewhoop: The SpeedyBee Flex25 features an innovative frame design with overlapping propellers. It can fit a 2.5" cinewhoop into a 2-inch form factor and offers a simple wireless Betaflight setup through a mobile app.
Indoor Flights Using Throttle Expo
Applying throttle expo for indoor drone flights enhances control and precision. Throttle expo, or exponential throttle curve changes, allows for more precise control, especially with high-KV motors. A 20-30 throttle expo near the hovering throttle range can improve control in confined spaces.
Which Is Better: Indoor FPV Drone or Outdoor FPV Drone?
The choice between indoor and outdoor FPV drones depends on your preferences and intended use. Outdoor FPV drones are ideal for aerial photography and longer distances. Indoor FPV drones are better for confined spaces and all-weather flying. Consider your specific needs and the type of flying you enjoy the most.

‘The Old Drift’ Is a Dazzling Debut Spanning Four Generations
By Dwight Garner
March 25, 2019
Namwali Serpell’s audacious first novel, “The Old Drift,” is narrated in small part by a swarm of mosquitoes — “thin troubadours, the bare ruinous choir” — who declare themselves “man’s greatest nemesis.”
They’re a pipsqueak chorus, a thrumming collective intelligence, a comic and subversive hive mind. They are here to puncture, if you will, humanity’s pretensions.
“The Old Drift” is an intimate, brainy, gleaming epic, set mostly in what is now Zambia, the landlocked country in southern Africa. It closely tracks the fortunes of three families (black, white, brown) across four generations.
The plot pivots gracefully — this is a supremely confident literary performance — from accounts of the region’s early white colonizers and despoilers through the worst years of the AIDS crisis. It pushes into the near future, proposing a world in which flocking bug-size microdrones are a) fantastically cool and b) put to chilling totalitarian purposes.
Serpell’s mosquitoes observe the dozens of wriggling humans in this novel, and they are distinctly unimpressed. We were here before you, they imply. We will be here long after you are gone. In the meantime, thanks for the drinks.
The reader who picks up “The Old Drift” is likely to be more than simply impressed. This is a dazzling book, as ambitious as any first novel published this decade. It made the skin on the back of my neck prickle.
Serpell seems to want to stuff the entire world into her novel — biology, race, subjugation, revolutionary politics, technology — but it retains a human scale. It is filled with love stories, greedy sex (“my heart twerks for you,” one character comments), pot smoke, comedy, inopportune menstruation, car crashes, tennis, and the scorching pleasure and pain of long hours in hair salons.
Serpell is a Zambian writer; she was born in that country and moved to the United States with her family when she was nine. She teaches literature at the University of California, Berkeley.
There’s a vein of magical realism in her work — one woman cries almost literal rivers, another has hair that covers nearly her entire body and that grows several feet a day — that will spark warranted comparisons to novels such as Salman Rushdie’s “Midnight’s Children” and Gabriel García Márquez’s “One Hundred Years of Solitude.”
Serpell does not try to charm her readers to death. Her men and women are not cute (except, sometimes, to each other), and they are not caricatures. Even the most virulent racists in “The Old Drift” aren’t one-dimensional.
Serpell is a pitiless and often very funny observer of people and of society. She describes polo as “that strange game that seems like a drunken bet about golf and horse riding.” A man on a leather sofa is commended for “expertly unlocking that complex apparatus — a clothed woman.”
She offers this definition of “history”: “the word the English used for the record of every time a white man encountered something he had never seen and promptly claimed it as his own, often renaming it for good measure.”
Here she is on a young white woman in Zambia: “She seemed both weak and imperious, helpless yet haughty. In a word: British.”
This is a matrilineal epic. It is packed with grandmothers, mothers, daughters. They are hardly placed on pedestals or lit by false, ennobling, autumnal light. They’re all struggling. Some drop out of school, steal or dabble with skin-whitening creams. Some open businesses, others turn to prostitution. Still others turn to protest. Nearly all are hoping to find love and, in the interim, to avoid being raped.
This book is intensely concerned with women’s bodies. Dissertations will surely be written about the multiple meanings of hair in this novel. We’ve learned too much from male writers about what it’s like to walk the planet guided and plagued by one’s reproductive apparatus. This novel, with wit and sensitivity, flips and revises that familiar script.
One young woman gets her period on her wedding day. Her friends, her family, the many guests — they’re all here. “All she wanted,” Serpell writes, “was to be at home in bed, curled in a ball, alone and quietly bleeding.”
Serpell is keenly interested in olfactory information. She lingers on people and places and scent. In one scene, a blind woman smells eucalyptus and knows she is nearly home. In another, a mother dislikes her daughter’s “new teenagery smell,” described as “a melony-lemony-biscuity scent that Adriana found both puerile and daunting.”
The plot of “The Old Drift” is not simple to unpack. The book begins, at the start of the 20th century, at a colonial settlement on the banks of the Zambezi River called the Old Drift. A dam is being constructed that will change many lives, a dam that some will wish to bring down.
The first women we meet, beginning around 1940, are: Sibilla, a white girl so unusually hirsute that at one point later in life she will be referred to as “an NGO for hair”; Agnes, a “pale, mad” and blind British girl who marries a black professor and engineer; and Matha, a bright girl whose prospects collapse after she becomes pregnant. She is this novel’s copious weeper, “the heartbreak queen of Kalingalinga.”
We get to know their daughters. One operates “Hi-Fly Haircuttery & Designs Ltd” (and perhaps a shadier business); another is a stewardess who once had artistic ambitions. One of these daughters has a long affair with a doctor who is working on a vaccine for H.I.V.
About a potential vaccine, we get shrewd snippets of dialogue like this one: “‘Beta version,’ Naila scoffed. ‘They should just say black version. They’re testing it on us.’”
The third generation goes on to work on microdrones, on further AIDS research and on political protest, seeking redress for the wrongs of history. One character also works on the vexing future of wearable technology — digital beadlike chips, implanted into the skin, that with the help of permanent tattoos of conductive ink turn one’s hands into approximations of smartphones.
“Government is controlling us,” one character says near the end of the novel. “And the worst part is — we chose this. We held our hands out to them and said PLEASE BEAD US!”
Serpell carefully husbands her resources. She unspools her intricate and overlapping stories calmly. Small narrative hunches pay off big later, like cherries coming up on a slot machine.
Yet she’s such a generous writer. The people and the ideas in “The Old Drift,” like dervishes, are set whirling. When that whirling stops, you can hear the mosquitoes again. They’re still out there.
They sound like tiny drones. They sound like dread.

One of my favorite bits of roleplaying is shopping in Shadowrun.
You're literally opening up books full of goodies that you bought, going down lists, reading stats, figuring out what you can use, what you can afford, and it's both so goddamn engaging and so very much in character. You live in a cyberpunk dystopia, they sell tasers at the dollar store, this is both what you are doing and what your characters are doing, all at once.
In the fiction of the game, the gunbunny adept is salivating as hard over the stats of their dream firearms as their player is. The summoner shaman is hemming and hawing over the price of foci, wondering if they can get a discount if they know a guy. The decker is assembling a dream suite of programs and grousing over paying the fees for them, wondering if it'll be more trouble than it's worth to just fucking code the things themselves. The hermetic mage spots an endoscope in the ass end of a gear list and constructs an entire infiltration strategy around it.
Every bit of complexity is as fiddly as it is engaging. The adept lives in a horrible squat because they absolutely require thousands of rounds of specialized ammo to feel safe. The mage dumps half their paycheck into maintaining a clandestine laboratory, the utility of which is determined almost entirely through passing notes to the GM and giggling. The face pays extra to register all their favorite toys under every single one of their half a dozen spare identities. The samurai bought a motorcycle and is determined to spend half an hour of every session tricking it out and tuning it up.
I like storygames as much as anyone. I like fiction-first, I like narrative malleability, I like giving narrative control to players. But there is a narrative inherent in knowing you're five miles underground in the dungeon, you have two torches and 17 arrows left, and you don't have enough rations to make it back to civilization and don't have enough gold to provision yourself if you get there. There is a narrative in looking at a list of things to buy, looking at a building you gotta infiltrate, and going, "All right, we need two microdrones, a bag full of RFID tags with a hole in it, the smallest Force 5 banishing focus we can find, bolt cutters, halloween masks, and at least six blank keycards."
Anyway probably the hottest RPG take I have but anyone who:
thinks there's a dichotomy between roleplaying and "rollplaying" (or roleplaying and combat)
thinks roleplaying is somehow just the "what would my character do" and "what does my character feel" parts of the game
thinks that traditional dungeon crawlers are somehow antithetical to roleplaying
has an incoherent definition of what roleplaying even is. Like, sorry if that comes off as not niceys, but you've got some unexamined elitism towards playstyles you consider beneath you. You don't have to like every style of roleplaying out there but the moment you start saying that X type of game is bad for roleplaying or some shit like that you gotta realize that you just sound like an asshole.

VOID-1000

Gods I forgot about the stupid microdrone section of WDL.
The controls are not at all intuitive for those of us who are accustomed to using a button to accelerate. In most games, including this one, on controller, its the right trigger button. But in this section of the game the right and left triggers move the drone up and down.

Ok I just had a brain blast-
So, I was thinking about what Ashe and Frankie's ship name would be since they don't really have one and the it hit me-
LavenderThorns
Lavender since that's the colour of Frankie's hair and Thorns because of Ashe's rose motif.
or;
MicroRose
Again Rose because of Ashe and Micro because microdrones are what Frankie uses for hacking, communication and recon, they're a stable of her character.
OR;
RoseGlasses
Once again Roses for Ashe and the Glasses is in reference to Frankies hologlasses!
i love all of these i think my favorite is microrose bc it sounds cute but lavenderthorns is more on the nose
• ashe and frankie are both shorter characters… most likely over the average worldwide height but definitely shorter than the average within the overwatch roster. ashe stand a whopping half a foot shorter than cass (5’7 & 6’1) and i’m pretty sure frankie is shorter than her
• i would probably end up spelling the first one lavenderthornes because thorne looks cooler than thorn
• anddd my last point is proposing a mix of the two lavenderrose or lavenderose . lavender roses are a real thing and they symbolize love at first sight & mystery :3
#ashe#ashe ow#frankie ow#frankie x ashe#deadlock rebels#lavenderrose#lavenderthorns#thoughts#ship names#only two ashe x frankie shippers in existence#⛓️
