Synopsis:
Six years ago, on the day before the grand opening of the newly redesigned Gotham National Bank, Sam Deke allowed his coworkers to celebrate their shift to a more modern kind of banking with coffee and cake. Unfortunately, the celebration was interrupted by the appearance of the Red Hood Gang, who aside from being annoyed that the bank was changed, demanded all of the money they could get from the vaults. The leader revealed that they had obtained a special skeleton key that had already got them access to the vault without being detected by alarm systems. One member of the gang was ordered to kill Sam, and clubbed him upside the head with his gun.
This was a mistake. The leader of the gang ordered him to remove his hood, and place his gun in his mouth, pointing out that the real Red Hood #5 would have killed Deke without hesitation, and would much more likely have shot than hit - not to mention that he was also left-handed. Mockingly, the Red Hood pointed out that whatever this imposter had intended was too late. They had poisoned the cake the previous day, and all of the innocent bank employees were already dead. Angry at himself for being careless, Bruce Wayne knocked aside his erstwhile compatriots, and made a run for the front door.
The Gotham City Police Department was waiting outside, and as the Red Hoods appeared behind Bruce, he made a run for it, sliding under a police cruiser, and then into the manhole beneath it. He tore off his disguise and retrieved his hidden motorcycle, calling back to Alfred Pennyworth to have the back door to his hideout opened for him. The Red Hoods were in hot pursuit, and Alfred was unsure of how to control the super computers, but Bruce was fortunate enough to escape unharmed.
Bruce had moved out of Wayne Manor since returning to Gotham City, setting up shop within a brownstone just a short distance from Crime Alley. He had equipped it with masses of technologically advanced tools and vehicles in pursuit of his new mission. Despite all of this, Alfred felt it was necessary for Bruce to keep up some semblance of the life he is expected by Gotham to lead. While Bruce wanted only to pursue his mission unfettered, Alfred reminded that failing to retain his Wayne legacy would surely draw suspicion, and he would be found out sooner than later.
Bruce was more interested in testing out a new device he'd designed; a kind of boomerang that would leave no trace; no trail to lead back to him. He snuck out onto the roof of the building, programming it to return in thirty seconds. He threw it, embedding it in a wall. When the timer reached zero, it propelled itself away from the wall, and back into his hand - a success. He decided that his next test should be for four minutes, and threw it again, beginning to count down the minutes. He was interrupted, though, by Alfred, who had come with Police Lieutenant Jim Gordon.
Knowing that the device would return in just under four minutes, Bruce tried to shuffle the Lieutenant inside. Unfortunately, Gordon's smoking habit took precedent, and Bruce would have to make their meeting pass quickly. Gordon had come with the intent to question, or at least warn Bruce about the fact that his cousin Philip Kane, may have been extending Wayne Enterprises' reach beyond regulated business practices. Though Gordon had no proof, he was quite sure of it. Bruce professed to have no knowledge of any such dealings.
However, before he could leave, Gordon felt compelled to ask whether Bruce knew anything about reports of a vigilante in the area. This particular vigilante had very high-tech equipment, and Gordon warned that if anyone was found to be helping that vigilante, it would become a very big problem. Bruce did his best to deflect the Lieutenant's suspicions, pointing out that while he appeared to be on a crusade, Gordon is also rumoured to be on a similar crusade. With that in common, the pair of them returned to the elevator and went back inside, just as the boomerang made its return.
On the street nearby, the Red Hood Gang recognized Bruce's brownstone, and decided that it was time to blow the whole thing sky high.

EP 135: Reality Check with Michael Modest
You've seen him in the movie Beyond the Mat, he is ranked #56 out of 500 wrestlers in Pro Wrestling Illustrated, he is the APW 5 time Universal Heavyweight Champion, he is Michael Modest!
It is a true honor to have Michael on my show, I have been following his career for years and now I get a chance to talk to him.
Michael talks about his very first wrestling match and working with a seasoned veteran who almost killed him. He talks about wrestling in Japan and how different the styles are compared to America and finally Michael talks about Beyond The Mat and how he had to stand up for what he believed in. He changed the narrative from what the movie wanted to portrayed him.
Thank you Michael for being on my show. This is just part 1 of Michael's interview, he will return.

Dorktown: Sometimes MLB players should only play at a certain time of day
Getty Images
Stark differences in player production based on time of day, as demonstrated by a lot of charts
In 2006, the St. Louis Cardinals played 105 games at night; and when they did, they were terrible at pitching — their 5.14 ERA was dead last in the National League. But in the 56 games they happened to play when the Earth was facing the sun, they were amazing at pitching — their 3.43 ERA was comfortably the very best in all of Major League Baseball:
Also, look at the difference in effect that Missouri daylight had on the Cards and Royals, both of whom had similar night ERAs. The two drunken bookends here:
Of course, this is baseball, so the weirdness of the Cardinals’ stark pitching contrast depending on whether or not the Northern Hemisphere happened to be facing the sun doesn’t end with the regular season. Somehow, despite the league’s very worst nighttime ERA, they snuck past the Astros to snag the NL Central title.
While logic would suggest they’d be dead meat in the playoffs, especially by the time day games go bye-bye after the first round Divisional Series, that was not the case. They squeaked past the Mets in the NLCS, winning the pennant on the strength of a pitching staff that posted a very good ERA of 3.84 across the seven (night!) games.
But that was nothing compared to their gigantic and exceedingly unlikely surge in the World Series vs. Detroit. They soundly beat the Tigers thanks to an ERA of just 2.05 — a mark that in the 15 years leading up to that had only been matched in a World Series by the 2001 Diamondbacks — across the five (night!) games.
Anyway, discovering this development sparked an uncontrollable urge to make a bunch of charts of my favorite production discrepancies, depending on whether the game was played under the sun or the stars. They each fascinated me in their own unique way, given the relationship between, and sliding scale of, sample size vs. level of deviation.
I figured I’d just drop ’em all in here, and apparently no one’s gonna stop me. So in case you like charts, here, have all the donuts charts in the world.
Pitching
Sammy Ellis barely pitched half as many innings during the day as he did at night throughout his career, yet gave up nearly as many earned runs:
The 1976 Astros were awesome at night, terrible during the day:
1959 Bob Anderson, 1976 Rick Reuschel, 2003 Bartolo Colon, 2013 Mike Minor, and 2013 Hiroki Kuroda barely allowed any homers in the part of the day in which they played less, especially in comparison to the part of the day they played more:
Ditto for 1949 Ray Scarborough and 1964 Jackson, only with extra-base hits swapped for homers:
1987 Jim Deshaies, 1996 Wilson Alvarez, 1996 Jamie Moyer, 1998 Charles Nagy, 1999 Woody Williams and 2007 Orlando Hernandez all had their own kinds of weirdly & significantly exceeding their nighttime homer allowed total in the daytime, given the innings difference:
1976 Bart Johnson somehow allowed more daytime earned runs than nighttime earned runs:
1987 Dave Schmidt’s 124 innings were about evenly divided between day and night. His pitching proficiency wasn’t:
If it was daytime in 2018, Dylan Bundy turned batters into 2013 Yuniesky Betancourt; if it was nighttime when they faced him, they were 2003 A-Rod:
Batting
Let’s kick it off with the 1981 White Sox:
1982 Toby Harrah, 1989 Eddie Murray, 1996 Jeff Conine, 1999 Eric Karros, 2008 Jermaine Dye, 2010 Bobby Abreu, and 2018 Kyle Seager all hit more daytime homers than than nighttime homers, despite 2-3 times as many at-bats at night:
Add 2008 Mark Teixeira to that pile, while noting the difference in OPS as well:
Also, here’s 1969 Willie Horton and 1974 Richie Hebner:
1993 Rick Wilkins and 2001 Ron Coomer had similar OPS discrepancies which you can see how that manifested itself in driving in runs:
1988 Randy Ready somehow had more of his hits occur during the day, resulting in a slightly better batting average:
1955 Gus Bell, 1962 Willie Davis, 1967 Lou Brock, 1973 Garry Maddox, 1974 Graig Nettles, 1985 Andre Dawson, 1993 Devon White, and 2008 Jose Guillen hit significantly more homers in one part of the day despite significantly more at-bats in the other:
1966 Brooks Robinson was the same way with doubles:
And 1977 Omar Moreno, only with RBI:
1954 Ted WIlliams, 1979 Larry Parrish, 1980 Terry Crowley, 1984 Lance Parrish, 1984 Tim Raines, 2000 Albert Belle, 2004 Steve Finley, 2010 Vlad Guerrero, 2013 Paul Goldschmidt, 2016 Jean Segura, 2016 Asdrubal Cabrera, and 2017 David Peralta all had stark differences in the rate at which they did stuff, doing unfathomably superior in their bigger sample (or unfathomably inferior in their smaller sample, however you wanna look at it):
Jeremy Giambi was able to maintain an impressive discrepancy across more than 1,700 career plate appearances:
And then there’s Hall of Famer and beloved Cubs legend Ron Santo, who couldn’t have been a more snug fit for that team. During his career, Wrigley Field hadn’t yet even had lights installed, so they played every single home game during the day. That meant they were playing well over 70% of their overall games during the day throughout his career there, when barely anyone else was even playing half their games during the day:
And Ron Santo THRIVED during the day. It was as though the sun’s rays provided the nourishment to unlock his inner baseball Hulk. To perfectly understand why nobody has ever been a more perfect match for his team, look at this 6-year stretch in particular:
Please especially pay proper respect to his 1968 season in which he homered just once in 163 nighttime at-bats. That’s 0.61%, almost but not quite at the 0.63% rate in which pitchers homered in that time. That’s juxtaposed against hitting 25 homers on his 414 daytime at-bats, which is more than 6% and roughly in line with the career home run rate of Willie Mays.
So yeah, it seems pretty serendipitous that a man who during the day could mash dingers like Willie Mays but at night homered at a sub-pitcher rate happened to be a Cubby. If he’d been on any other team, those years in orange not only wouldn’t be far to the left of those in green, they’d actually likely be to the right. And what a shame that would’ve been for Santo’s career.

Activity #3 - Glitch Methods
Datamoshing - is essentially purposeful manipulation of media files so that when the file is decoded, the file is read and the corrupted data creates a visual or auditory “glitching” effect. An incredible example of successful datamoshing is achieved through Takeshi Murata’s “Monster Movie”, where percussion instruments are layered over glitching sounds and visuals of a monster doing its thing. The vivid colours smearing and pixellating together is difficult for the eyes to process, and the distorted sound is difficult for the ears to understand, but the result is mind-boggling.
Data-bending/Image bending - is the process of “glitching” a media file of a certain format by using incompatible software to edit or manipulate it (software that is designed for a different specific format). Data/Image bending can also be achieved by converting a media file to a different format, or by utilizing software bugs intentionally to force the format to corrupt. This technique of “glitching” is explained and demonstrated by Michael Betancourt in “Cookbook Databending”.
Glitch-a-like vs. “Natural glitch” - Iman Moradi defines the Glitch-alike as being a synthesized, man-made “glitch”, either by creating a glitch-like effect in a non-digital medium that resembles a glitch, or by creating an environment within digital software to specifically invoke corruption of files and a glitched image. The natural glitch, he also explains, is a glitch that happens by accident: that is, it is completely by accident but produces the same effect. Where as the Pure Glitch is one that occurs completely by accident, those who create Glitch-Alikes admire the visual composition of a glitched image and attempt to fashion one artificially and on purpose.
Pixel Sorting - is the process of selectively ordering or isolating a horizontal or vertical section of pixels in an image and sorting their positions based on criteria like each pixel's luminosity, hue or saturation. This process of creating glitched images was made popular by Kim Asendorf, who created her own script of Pixel Sorting that is often still used by glitch artists to create unique, glitched compositions that appear somewhat orderly in an disorderly fashion.
Hardware-Bending - or circuit bending, is the art of creatively short circuiting or messing with the hardware of something to create malfunctions (say, a CD player, video camera, sound mixer) resulting in a glitching effect. Rather than messing with the files of media, like with many techniques of glitching, the actual media itself is uncorrupted, just inputted into a corrupted medium. “Glitch”, a graduate film made by Mike Diamond, goes into depth on hardware/circuit bending and how any hardware can create glitch art if it can be made to malfunction.
