My take on the new Minecraft mob !!

Usual design rant below

I believed veils would work great for the Ancient builders as not only can they hide their identity efficiently, keeping them relatively ambiguous, but also protect from the weather in the generally warmer climates they were largely stationed in, and equally work as face masks against disease and virus‘, all whilst still being able to be stylised in different ways, allowing the shape language to remain distinct.

Other visual inspirations were pirate and sailor clothing for the cold costal tribe, Ancient Greek and farmer attire for the warm costal tribe, and funnily enough: sci-fi desert planet Civilisation concept art for the desert tribes design.

Aswell as ofcourse their own respective structures and the loot within.

The colouration does differ in my head from what I rendered, I believe a lot of the little trinkets and details would have different colors, but I didn’t want the shillouettes to clash or melt into one another in this lineless style so here are the base colors for now, as I tried the former and it didn’t look good.

Look I know they were like a massive imperial force or whatever but you cannot tell me a group of artists inventors and architects that relied heavily on their semi sentient bio-mechanical hellspawn machines (and some necromancy) to do their bidding, bunkering up immediately once the odds were no longer in their favour, could handle a punch or two.

These people probably looked like starving artists, especially after the overworled was turned into a withering shithole for a couple years, legends was definitely a fanfiction they wrote about themselves. /j

ANYWAYS Thats Mason Derulo (the last name is a joke PLS) the endermen, and idk his kids name I literally came up with it today with @xesnox

She is in a baby carrier covered in moss because she needs moisture so that she doesnt burn up and I forgot to give Mason gloves since he would get hurt if he touches wet things, but idc this is cute and I'll stand by that until the day I die.

Spruce wood Mask, and a crimson cape he got from the nether before some parts of the forest was warped due to the endermen's appearance or sum idk his color pallet

Also he wraped up some of her exposed bones in bandages since he doesn't want her to feel a lot of pain and make her condition worse.

Idk when he would adopt her, but yk its better than bringing her to the Nether where he spawned from so his dad can eat him and toss the child into the lava (I hate his dad I swear) so in the overworld he'll stay

After seeing the Minecraft movie trailer, it really made me appreciate how other artists interpret Minecraft’s designs. So here’s my shot at it. My only regret was not making the mobs more grotesque.

I don’t think I ever posted my Phantom design concept??

Minecraft Phantom, that is. It’s a first draft so it was really to get my design thoughts down, but wanted to share regardless. Design thoughts under the cut.

So I was mostly trying to make it look like a screwed up version of a moth. It also has a bird skeleton because it’s a nightmare creature, so I thought it should look like something familiar but wrong. That’s why the head connects to the back of the wings instead of the spine- it almost looks like something you know, but it’s just wrong enough to be uncanny.

A lot of people base their Phantoms on eels, which is awesome, but I’ve always envisioned them as being fuzzy. Fuzzy like a bug. Imagine flannel moth, that’s kinda the texture I was going for. Again, not super clear in this drawing, but I’ll workshop it for the future.

My friend and I workshopped the idea around it, and he had a really cool idea. I designed the green patterns on the wings to look like XP. It comes from an insomniac mind but drops physical items, so I thought that would be a good compromise to have it be real and imaginary at the same time.

But my friend had a SUPER cool thought- it comes from the nightmares that you didn’t have. Not sleeping when you’re supposed to implies that you were supposed to dream. Neglecting your own dreams leads to them bleeding into the real world. In other words, the Phantom is a kind of physical manifestation of the dreams you were supposed to have, but didn’t. But you can’t run from them forever.

Anyways shoutouts to my buddy for that thought, a significantly cooler way to tie the XP idea to its existence than I had. Super cool stuff. Babadingbingdooa bye bye

Ive got a warden oc (this is not a depiction of him, more of a standard species study) and had issues pinning down his preportions after not drawing him in a while (.....LIKE. 2021.) so i dissected the warden and rebuilt it from the scraps

Ive come to the conclusion that i love them so much after being hunted by one in its natural domain for the first time

I decided to make my own interpretation/design of an endermen a while back.

Hairless (besides the flimsy wispy hairs on the back of the neck) with taught, lean, veiny body (despite having zero blood and are more or less hollow). They are perpetually stooped in most circumstances, and have low dragging hands that are elongated and thin to help them eat (chorus fruit or something, who knows if they even need to actually eat). Their eyes are buggy and bright. Their disposition is meek, and that of constant anxiety, they dread being interacted with, they much prefer passive observation. Their core is a pearl that more or less is their energy/heart, and the rest of their insides are hollow or almost woodwind like (they can use air passing through these to click and chirp).

In extreme circumstances when a threat (something making prolonged eye contact) sets them off, they put on a show. They violently suck in air, which collapses their neck/throat and pulls it through their mouth in a very ghastly appearance (kinda like a frog). Their jaw is dislocated to accommodate this stretch, and their eyes bulge considerably from the pressure of their throat/neck. Their lips flip up and over their nose/snout to reveal black needle like teeth (fangs/teeth a bit like a snake/eel). Since the neck is sucked up into the mouth, this pulls their body ramrod straight, drawing up their shoulders and puffing out their chest, which makes their figure much taller and imposing. Their arms are held rigidly at the sights, threatening to lash out at a moments notice. The constant sucking/holding of the air to create this display creates a ghastly shrieking/grunting noise, adding to the intimidation factor. With all that said, this display is not only painful for them to perform and hold for long periods of time, but also distressing to their psyche, therefore they do everything in their power to get the situation over with.
