Let's start over for a bit.
My name is Gabriella O'Hara and, for the past two years, I've been the only and only Spider-Woman after getting my DNA spliced together with spider DNA. How, you may ask? Well, my dad, Miguel O'Hara, was...killed by Alchemax. He was working on some weird spider stuff in there and when I broke in to investigate his death myself, I got splashed by some chemicals and woke up spider-y.
I'm sure the rest is guessable.
I was raised by my Tio Gabriel, who is also Green Goblin.
This Golbin's good though.
I was also raised by an AI named Lyla, who was made by my father. She's kinda like a way too serious older sister.
Found out about the Multi-Verse
Found any alternate version of my father.
He's a little distant and overprotective in my opinion.
Jess says he has his reasons.
Became friends with Gwen, Hobie and Pavitr.
And Miles, but that's later.
Peter B. is AU Dad #2
Jess is Spider-Mom
Found out Hobie is one of the ones my alternate dad hates the most.
Started flirting with Hobie to mess with AU Dad #1.
It worked.
Then I actually... caught feels...
But we don't talk about that.
Despite all this, I still mange to get straight A's.
I'm able to hide the Multi-Verse from my Tio.
Got hit by a drone.
Got a cat.
Actually help AU Dad #1 with some stuff.
All in all, life is great and I would change it for the world.
Or any other in this case.
Guess this is what it means to me a Spider-Man...or Woman.

Father mine. Miguel O’Hara x teen!Spider!reader
Tumblr media
Hope you like this :D it’s sad asf.
Warnings: mommy issues backstory, feelings of inadequacy, wanting to feel pain. Angst.
Miguel’s body shields over yours as Miles breaks through the force field and causes everyone to fly backwards. Your leg bends in an unnatural way and you resist the urge to cry out.
He holds you to him and does a once over of your form. You nod at him, not wanting to worry him and he looks to Miles.
You can see the exact moment where the rope finally breaks and he chases after the boy.
Your cries fall on deaf ears as you run behind him. Your legs screams with ever step and you’re forced to stop and look helplessly as he calls every spider and alerts them.
Soon enough there’s a hole broken in one of the windows as Miles jumps and Miguel follows. Every other spider jumping after the both of them like blind followers.
You join them, because you would follow Miguel to the death.
You try to focus all the power into your arms and your good leg but it’s fucking hard because you’re climbing the spaceship that Miles has somehow traversed.
In front of you, is every other spider that is a part of the society, and each of them is almost climbing on top of the others like mindless zombies that crave flesh.
Your spider sense tingles and you duck just in time for Miguel to fall past you and hang on to the spaceship with his claws.
You Web him and he looks at you gratefully.
“Gracias, Mija.” He grunts, his eyes glowing red.
You don’t answer. His hair is disheveled and he looks he’s been electrocuted or some shit, his fangs are bared and he snarles as he looks above you, “let me go now, and go back to the fucking tower.”
You scowl, “why should I?”
He tears through the webs, “because I said so, I’m already pissed off at two teenagers, don’t make me even worse.” He seethes and your lips form a thin line under your mask.
Suddenly, you’re eight years old trying to convince your mother to talk to you when she’s giving you the silent treatment and you have to gulp to try to keep your whimper of pain inside. You’re not a burden, you think, as he shakes his head and jumps past you.
something in you screams to go back, to listen to him. For once to listen to him, not just because you’re afraid he won’t love you anymore if you don’t but, call it spider sense pro, it helps predict the future so you listen to it.
You reluctantly jump out of the force field and swing. You can see the hole in the broken window and the jagged edges that form it. They resemble your heart and you clench your jaw and zoom through, tucking your legs inwards and crouching into a roll to minimise impact. The pain is still there when you hit the ground, but you wish it was harder.
You deserve to hurt right now. You deserve the pain in your leg and the pain in your heart because you’re not a good kid.
A groan leaves your lips as your spider sense tells you to go to where the go home machine is.
You run to the area and see spider byte and lyla walking around in a panicked frenzy.
“What the hell is going on?” You say out loud and they turn to look at you.
“Your dad is being a horrible person.” Spider-Byte scowls.
You look at Lyla and she doesn’t meet your eyes, only turning back to look at the monitors.
You squint and look at the go-home machine.
Miles. Invisible Miles.
You know why Miguel is mad, you know the risk that Miles brings, because you’ve seen first hand how a universe is destroyed. Your own was.
But Miles is a kid. He’s like you, wanting to save his dad. Just like you’re trying to help yours.
You can feel his panic and his anger and his hurt.
He turns visible at the last second and you meet his eyes as everyone storms in. Your own dad leading the party as the go-home machine starts to operate.
And then you look at the man who is your father. The man who has fed you and bandaged you and smiled at your jokes. The man who has been there with you through so much.
You watch as he shouts and tries to break the barrier. You see Peter’s horror. You watch as he pries open the field just the slightest. You see him try and kill a kid. A kid like you.
And your eyes fill with tears because this man is a monster.
By some dumb luck, Miles is able to escape and Miguel stands defeated. The go-home machine Scans him and he breaks it like it’s nothing. You flinch.
You watch as he turns and walks amidst everyone like nothing has happened. You watch as he dishes out orders as if he hasn’t just tried to take the life of a child. You watch him threaten Gwen, and you watch as he sends her to her universe. Ignoring her cries because to him, she’s an inconvenience.
Is that what you are? Now that you’re not on his side anymore?
He opens a portal and Jessica and another Peter you don’t give a shit about walk through. His eyes meet yours as his mask materialises over his face. You know he expects you to follow him, even if he tells you to stay. So he doesn’t bother and walks in.
You don’t follow.
Because this man, this cold, unflinching monster of a man is not your father.

cw/tw: fem! reader, established relationship, talking about having kids, mention of breeding kink and birth control, no sex
Tumblr media
“have you thought about it much?”
“having kids?”
miguel pauses for a moment to think, his mind bouncing between the countless, varying scenarios he’s pictured many times.
of course, making the baby. you’ve both played around with the idea of it in bed, nothing more than heated dirty talk and fantasy since you’re on birth control, but in the moment it feels intense and real.
but there are other, more wishful things he thinks about. coming home to you bouncing a chubby baby on your hip, picking out names and clothes, family photo albums with a lock of soft hair and a tiny ink footprint, holding your hand when you both find out the sex, cradling the baby to his chest as you sleep. all the crying and messes and exhaustion, but being with you through it all makes it sound doable.
when he indulges in thoughts of making a family with you, miguel hopes the baby would be the best parts of the two of you but, most of all, he wants the baby to have your eyes.
miguel tilts his chin down to look at you, your cheek squished onto his arm gives you an expression cute enough for him to easily admit, “a little.”
he traces your jaw with one finger, mapping your chin before doubling back upwards to follow your hairline. idly touching with no intent other than to remind himself that you’re not going anywhere.
“me too,” you hum.
“really?” miguel can’t help the surprise that colors his voice.
“yea,” you laugh, but its soft, a gentle tease, “i wanna give us the life we deserve.”
miguel makes a noise in the back of his throat, suddenly choked up. he can tell you know, but you don’t press with anything more than a kiss to his chest. it takes a minute for him to break the silence again.
“you snore, you know.”
“what?”
miguel has to stifle a chuckle at your indignant tone, lips tugging into a lopsided smile, “very loudly, might i add.”
“you—!”
you yank the pillow out from below his head before he can stop you, swinging your leg over his hip to straddle him and whack him with your new weapon. he takes your wrists after a few hits, smiling up at you as you laugh, pillow falling by the wayside.
“you snore too, jerk.”
“i know, querida.”
“well,” you wiggle out of his grip to find your spot beside him again with a pleased look on your face, “let’s hope that skips a generation.”
miguel curls his arm around you and kisses the top of your head, “yea, let’s hope.”

“...guel…”
“Miguel…"
“Miguel!”
Miguel wakes up with fright, moving around the sheets frantically, only to calm down when he meets your eyes staring back at him. His body relaxed instantly, then touched your face as you smiled down at him.
Even after all these months with you now, he could never get used to seeing you in the morning again. He could never get used to those soft lips that pressed his own every morning reminding him that breakfast was ready. He could never get used to feeling your body soft and warm against his. He could never get used to the fullness in his heart overflowing.
“Breakfast is ready,” you say as you kiss him, tapping his head lightly with the spatula in your right hand.
“Gracias, cielo.” He murmurs, kissing you back passionately.
You giggled, trying to push yourself out of his grasp, only to end up falling on top of him as he kissed your neck playfully.
“Stop that,” you tut, swatting your husband’s face away. “You have to take Gabby to school. You'll be late.”
Miguel sighed and rolled out of bed—picking you up with him. You squealed, kicking your legs as he walked you both to the kitchen, placing you next to Gabriella on the counter. He ruffled her hair kissing her on the forehead as he ignored the huffs you both threw at him.
“Papá, don't forget I have a game later after school.” Gabriella points her spoon at him.
“I wouldn't miss it for the world, mi vida. Now finish your breakfast.” He chuckled, pushing the hand used to point a spoon at him back into her plate.
“You better not. I have to show you my awesome butterfly kick!”
Walking around the counter, plate in hand you pat her chin. “Chew.”
“Miguel?”
“Hm?”
“You too.”
Gabriella snorts from beside a coughing Miguel who nods in return, watching you leave the room. ‘Whipped,’ she thinks.
By the time he and Gabriella finished breakfast, she realised she had misplaced her socks and began running through the apartment in search of them—hoping to find them before you noticed. Which you did. Eventually, this leads to present events of you hot on her tail as you help your daughter look for said socks after giving her a scolding for losing them in the first place.
All the while, your husband watches on the sidelines, waiting for his daughter and wife to get ready.
You follow Gabriella into her room, leaving your husband alone on the couch to entertain himself. You were already late as it was.
After minutes of searching what felt like everywhere, at last, Gabriella found her socks trapped between the bed and the wall.
“¡Gabriella, apúrate! ¡Tenemos que irnos ya!” You yell out rushing to grab your keys. “Mig, could you start the car?”
Walking towards him, you pause. He looks… Strange. As if the life was drained right out of him, it worried you. How couldn't it when he's staring at the lamp on your coffee table so intently like that?
“Miggy?” You call, walking closer to him. You wave your hand in front of his face trying to knock him out of his trance.
“Miguel,” this time raising your voice when you tried again, snapping your fingers.
It seems to have finally caught his attention because when he looks at you his eyes are wide in horror. Suddenly, he grabs your arm tightly—so tightly that it starts to hurt, that if he were to let go, you'd fade right from him.
You try to yank your hand back but his grip is firm. He's mumbling something you don't understand.
“Mamá, I’m ready!” Gabriella says coming out of her room. Miguel’s gaze then snaps to her and his body immediately loosens up. Finally, he lets go of your wrist walking to Gabriella at a slow steady pace.
And you? You're scared. You don't know why he's acting this way. Your heart pumps loudly in your chest; it feels like it's in your throat, threatening to spill out.
To your relief he just pats her hair, messing up what had taken minutes for her to redo.
“Maybe we should start calling you la tortuga cuz’ you're so slow.” He chuckled.
“Ha! Wait til’ you see me on the field,” Gabriella rebutted while they both headed for the door.
You're standing there not knowing what to do, what to think. Why did he do that? What was that? Is he okay? Were you looking into this too much? Your thoughts run rampant.
“¿Mi cielo?” Miguel calls you, but when you turn to look at him—he’s different. Not different like he was a few minutes ago, and not different like he is normally. Just, different.
“You coming?” He continues.
Deciding that what you just saw was a fluke—a slip of a hand—you shove all your doubts aside and smile. “Yeah, just getting my purse.”
That was the first of many to come. At the game, he had the same wide-eyed look. He even asked who ‘that kid’ with his daughter was despite knowing her for years since Gabriella was four. This was all too weird.
It started with the stupid lamp, then he moved on to the mirror in the hallway. This continued through all other inanimate objects in your home until this strange behaviour of his shifted towards you and Gabriella.
He would stare at you throughout the night when he thought you were asleep. Not in the usual ‘you’re-so-cute-when-you-sleep’ lovesick stare. Oh, no. It was stalker-like. It made you want to throw up.
You thought that maybe it was a phase, that it’d pass, that he’d let go of this bad habit he's developed. But it's been months now. He was starting to look different, act different, and forget more each passing day. Even Gabriella noticed.
“Doesn’t papá seem a bit odd to you lately?” She asks one day, doing her homework on the kitchen counter while you start on dinner.
“What do you mean?” You play dumb, knowing exactly what she meant.
“Like, he looks different. And he's forgetting a bunch of stuff! Plus, he's always spacing out… I think he needs a doctor.”
You laugh, disguising your fear as something more of a gag instead so she doesn't worry. “He just works a lot mija. Don't think those soccer lessons come cheap.” You say, waving the spatula in your hand playfully.
She giggles and goes back to doing her homework. But it's not the end of the conversation for you. You need to confront Miguel and ask him what the shock is going on.
He does the same thing at dinner. Eyes still wondering, yet now they're a dark crimson shade. Not unlike the brown you used to sink so deeply into. These inconsistencies pop up more often as time goes by. Sometimes, the way he talks is different! Little habits he had like running, walking, or the way he cracks his knuckles.
Too much, too many. It's driving you crazy. Miguel doesn't have a twin, so who is this?
You wait a few days til’ the weekend to confront him. Gabriella is away spending the night two houses down at her friend’s place and Miguel is still watching that shocking lamp.
You walk into the kitchen and grab a knife, hiding it behind you when you walk into the living room where Miguel is.
“Who are you?” Miguel turns.
“What?” He questions, his eyes looking over to you confused.
You pull the knife out, grasping it tightly as you point it to him.
“Who. Are. You.” You repeat aggressively.
Miguel stands, hands out in submission. “Cielo, put the knife down.”
“No!” You spat at the man. “Who the shock are you? You are not my Miguel.”
“¿De qué estás hablando? Soy yo.”
“Don't lie!”
Miguel looks at you again with those damned wide eyes. “And what's with that look? Why are you always zoning out!”
He tries to answer your question. His mouth moves but there's no sound. Instead, there’s a—glitch? That's the best way you can describe it. It's like his body is glitching. It's moving in and out and colours swirling around.
You drop the knife. Well—more like it glitches out of your hand. Miguel is terrified trying to reach out for you, but every time he tries, his hands go right through you. The glitches expand, now moving around the house. Peeking out the window, you see this occurrence outside as well.
The first thing that comes to mind is Gabriella. Your baby. Is she okay? Is this happening to her too?
One thing, however, is clear. You need to see her.
“¡Cielo!” Miguel raves. “I have to get you out of here.” He reaches out to grab your hand only for it to go through you.
“Don't shocking touch me!” You scream back at him, putting space between you two.
While he's caught off guard you make a run for it, glitching as you go—watching the world around you do the same.
“Gabby!” You cried out, running to where you left her. Others have already noticed the glitches, running around thunderstruck and terrified. You look back and see Miguel on your tail.
“Gabriella!” You cry again, tears streaming down your face.
“¡Mami!” She calls for you. You see her and sprint in her direction to grab her, reaching out your fingers to grasp hers. She's crying, reaching out for you too.
You reach and reach, and reach—ignoring Miguel's cries for you and Gabriella. You touch her fingers and there's an electric shock that reaches down to the depth of you.
Your hand reaches her in time as you grabbed her arm, pulling her into your embrace quickly just as that spark spreads engulfing everything.
And the last thing you felt was the warmth of your daughter’s body being shielded by your own.
“NO–!”
Everything goes black.

“We got an anomaly,” Hobie says to Peter, turning around on the rolling chair—pushing his legs on the board.
“Get your feet off that thing, you know how expensive that is?” Peter scolded, swiping his feet off.
“Earth-519.” He goes on, ignoring him. Listening to authority is against his beliefs.
Peter tsked unamused, moving to check the screen—pulling up what the newest anomaly was since along with Miguel, LAYLA went as well. Therefore making things a little less convenient for the Spider-Society.
He sees the world first. Burning and destroyed. Glitches and cracks everywhere. The weather is unbecoming—uneven. Sunny once, then a blast of snow the next, and down into pouring rain. People are vanishing at an astonishing rate.
The camera moves to capture the anomaly. As soon as Peter catches a glimpse of what or who it is, his stomach drops and Hobie sits up, finally showing interest.
“Is that…” Hobie starts.
“Fuck.” Peter sighs frustrated, running his hands through his hair. And that's all the confirmation Hobie needs.
“Get Jessica and the others,” Peter orders.
When Hobie leaves, Peter bangs his fists on the table and slides everything there off.
“Fuck!” He curses again. “When will enough be enough!”

Father Mine- 2. Miguel O’Hara x teen!spider!reader
Tumblr media
Just note- this and father mine aren’t in the canon of Miguel’s and mini Miguel’s story line<3 also this is absolute crap and I’m so sorry it has a lot more plot and less of Miguel and mini Miguel interaction. Though whatever they do have is pain. (ALSO THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR LOVE I LOVE ALL OF YOU) please comment and reblog if you liked it :DD
Warnings: angst. FATHER MINE PART 1 Part 3
“Where is she?” He asks Jess.
“She didn’t follow.” Is what the woman replies and that’s that.
A spark of worry shoots through him but he ignores it. Now is not the time to worry about anything but the anomaly.
He scans his surroundings and tries to look for wherever the kid may be.
A part of his mind still screams he’s just a kid.
That weak thinking, letting things slide mindset was ahat got Gabriella killed. It was what killed an entire universe. He couldn’t let more people be killed for the sake of the life of one man.
“Split up. Look for him.” He orders Ben and Jess and they leave promptly.
Not now. Not now. He’d check up on you after.
——————
“Miles!” You whisper-shout at the boy.
He almost shouts but you cover his mouth with your hand, “you’re in the wrong universe, you’re on earth-42.” His eyes widen, “I’m here to help you.”
“Why should I trust you?” His eyes narrow at you.
“I don’t know.” You look down, “But I’m asking you to trust me anyways.”
After a beat of silence he talks, “how did you know I was in the wrong universe?”
“You were bit by a spider that was from here. It’s venom altered your dna to this universe. And the go home machine scanned your dna, which was this universes and sent you here, I’m running out of breath and I can hear your mom from this univers walking here so let’s please just go.” You pull him out through the window just as the door opens and Rio steps in.
You and Miles drop down into an abandoned alleyway, and you hide a wince because of the pain in your leg. He turns invisible and you open a portal. Just as he walks through, Ben comes into view and sees you.
“Mini Miguel! You’re here! You know your dad was pretty worried you didn’t show! I’ll tell him you’re here wait- I” you web his mouth and eyes and as he flails about you launch yourself upwards and unhook his watch.
“I’m sorry, Ben.” You apologise to his mumbling form as his hands thrash around to remove the webs.
You jump into the portal and it closes.
“We’re in Miguel’s APARTMENT?” Miles’s all but shrieks and you wince.
“Jeez, bro. Don’t worry. He won’t look here.” You hand him a bottle of water from the minibar.
He drinks it all in one go and breathes deeply. You calm him down, “this is just for a few hours. Then I’ll shift you to your own universe.”
“Why not now?” He asks.
“You need to eat, and you’ll be fine. No one’s going to be named Captain tonight right? You can’t help anyone if you’re half dead.”
He clenches his jaw and sits down as you go to the kitchen and get a leftover pizza from the fridge. It was from that family night you had with Miguel and Lyla the day before Miles’s arrival.
You head to the living room after heating his food and his eyes are transfixed on a photo frame in his hand.
It’s a photo of you and him that Lyla had managed to sneak and Jess had printed for your birthday.
“He seems nice. When he’s not trying to kill me.” The boy scoffs.
You don’t answer, just handing him his food.
He eats in silence and you take the time to clean the house. Even if you did hate him just a bit, it didn’t mean he deserved to live in a messy house because he was too busy working.
“You really love him, huh?” Miles piped up and you look up from fluffing a cushion.
“Hmm.” You hum in response, “I don’t know.”
“If you didn’t you wouldn’t be here fluffing up his cushions and cleaning his home. Or should I say your home as well.” He raises an eyebrow.
You throw the cushion, “his home. Come on, we need to get to his office so I know what universe you’re from.”
He follows you to the window and has to swallow a gasp when you walk through it and float like you’re walking on air.
You chuckle, “it’s an illusion, sort of like that Indiana Jones movie.”
“The thing with the grail?” His voice is shaky as his foot comes to rest onto the platform connecting the window to the opposite balcony.
“Yeah, I got it made to fuck with Miguel.”
He huffs out a laugh, “I bet he would have freaked out?”
“You have no idea.” You smile a little at the memory as you jump of the platform and land lightly on the terrace.
Every few minutes you usher Miles into the few dark alleyways in the futuristic city of Nueva York to use the hidden pathways that are used by the underground thug gangs that you had managed to sniff out.
It takes about half an hour to reach the tower, and Miles turns invisible, “you couldn’t have done that before?” You raise an eyebrow.
He just looks sheepish and you try not to roll your eyes, “come on.”
He follows you through the entire area, sees them all wave and smile at you as you walk to where spider-byte may be.
——-
“Ben, come in.” Miguel speaks, “Ben!”
With a groan, he phones Lyla. She picks up immediately and her voice is frantic, “you need to get back. Now.”
“What? Why?”
“It’s Miles.” She informs him, “mini you is with him.”
His eyes widen under the mask and without a word he opens a portal to go home, “Jess. We’re going back to base.”
————————
“1610. Earth 1610.” You recite as you make a portal.
As soon as it opens, the door to the room swings open.
It’s a sort of déjà vu if you think about it.
The same room, the same scenario. But this time it’s you he’s after.
Your blood runs cold and you push Miles inside, “save your dad.” Are the last words you say to him as the portal closes in time just as Miguel pounces through air.
He looks at you and you freeze. His eyes are red and his fangs are out.
As he stands to his feet, your breathing becomes uneven.
Fuck you’re panicking. And it’s weird, because you’ve faced evil villains before. You’ve fought people that make Miguel look like a shortie.
So.. why the fuck are you so scared? Or were you always just a coward?
“You’re hurt.” He says in an eerily calm voice.
“Why-why do you care?” You huff out and his eyebrows furrow.
“What do you mean?” He raises his hand and you flinch. You notice the way his eyes widen and the hurt that floods the pools of his eyes.
He takes another step forward and you back away, “Stay the fuck away from me.” Your hand shoots forward. Only widening the chasm between the both of you.
“What. Happened? Who hurt you? Was it Miles? Did he force you to help him?” He snarls.
You stare at him dumbfounded, “Who hurt me? Are you serious?”
“I’ve never been more serious in my life.”
You scoff, “I helped him of my own accord.”
It’s then that he takes a deep breath and a step back.
“That’s right. I helped him get away!”
“….how could you do this to us? To me?” He points to himself.
“What are you going to do now? Try and kill me like you did him?”
“I would never. I am your father-”
“You are a selfish monster.” You say and his breath hitches. The look on his face breaks your own heart and all you want to do is hug him.
“Don’t say that.” He points at you, “you don’t mean it.”
“I meant every damn word.” You scowl and reply, “you are not my father. I am not your daughter.”
He schools the hurt on his face, “So be it.” He webs your watch and breaks it into tiny pieces in a matter of moments, “it’s cute that you thought you could one up me. Really.” He chuckles, “You are relieved of your duties effective immediately. You will never be allowed into Earth-928 or any other dimension hereafter.”
He webs you closer to him as he opens a portal into some obscure universe, one you’ve never heard of, and just before he pushes you in, you glimpse the tears in his eyes, your own running down your cheek as you scream profanities at him.
The last thing you see is his face before you’re thrown into complete darkness.

⚠️SPOILERS for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (primarily the latter). Like serious spoilers. Please don't engage if you don't want any!⚠️
Incoming mini-essay! (TL;DR - Miguel O'Hara as a character has much to say about grief and guilt, and how it can harm people.)
After watching Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, I am filled with thoughts!!! So many that they can't all be contained here, and I'll probably have to write an actually essay later--however, I wanted to share some of my feelings and ideas about Miguel and his role in the story, specifically.
Miguel is obviously an antagonist to Miles throughout the story. And, I would actually argue that he is an antagonist to everyone, including himself. He's cynical, he's controlling, he projects his fears onto everyone, and he is terrified of change. The scene where he tells Miles that he is the "original anomaly" is a obvious display of all of that.
Despite this, Miguel still isn't a villain; he isn't evil, and he isn't doing any of this because of pure malice. Instead, he's doing it out of fear. Because Miguel is also an anomaly (at least, I think so). Miguel has more in common with Miles than he does the other Spiders, which is why I think he blames Miles for so much as the "original anomaly."
We know, as the audience, that Miles shouldn't be blamed for anything that has happened. It is not his fault that the Spot brought over a radioactive spider from Earth-42; it's not his fault that he got bit; it's not his fault that the original Spider-Man dies; it's not his fault that the Spot became the Spot. Any logical person can see that Miles didn't have any control over these situations; so why can't Miguel?
He can't because Miguel believes that Miles will cause and experience exactly what he did. We know that a major part of why Miguel is so uptight is because when he disrupted canon, his entire world disintegrated before his eyes. And, its a logical fear; as he said himself, is it worth saving one person over ending the world? But this is where things get complicated: does "disrupting canon" actually cause the world to end?
Peter B. Parker, for example, has a daughter. Jessica Drew is pregnant. None of the other Spiders seem to have children, so wouldn't these be an example of canon being disrupted? Pavitr's world still seems to be around (I'm assuming), after we saw canon disrupted. Gwen's father LITERALLY quit his job, meaning he didn't die, and therefore also disrupted canon. But...nothing happened to Gwen's Earth, even though she was gone for several months.
And, the cherry on top, if Miles is an anomaly, how come nothing has happened to Earth-1610 and Earth-42? Why did nothing happen when the original Spider-Man died?
All of these things, I would like to add, are also very different to what Miguel did. Miguel abandoned his world for a new one, taking the place of a version of him that died. He was in the wrong world. And this reminded me of a certain antagonist in Into the Spider-Verse: King Pin.
Throughout the entire movie, King Pin desperately tried to bring another version of his family into his world. In the end he failed, whereas Miguel succeeded. Of course there are major differences, still. King Pin was entirely selfish and didn't care what consequences came with getting his family back, whereas Miguel thought he wasn't hurting anyone. But Miguel still managed to hurt people, and that's what seems to linger for him. The guilt and grief that he caused the destruction of an entire Earth.
And he can't see past it. Despite the many examples we see throughout the movie that go against what he believes, he can't see beyond his own experience. And if he were to admit that Miles could be correct, his understanding of what happened to himself has to be completely reevaluated. All of that grief that he has suppressed, all of the work he's done to "fix" things; all of that changes.
This is what makes Miguel so compelling to me. I don't think what he said to Miles was warranted, but I can understand where he comes from. The other Spiders can too, because a lot of them have already experienced their canon events. It's what makes this conflict so complicated, so interesting.
Of course, we can't be 100% sure about everything until we see what happens in the third film, but it's all interesting nonetheless.
Ultimately, all I want to say is that I love this series, and I can't wait to see where it takes us next!
