no but the erasure of brienne's canonical features must be studied. what's with this chronic incapability of accepting that ur faves dont have to be hot in this fandom like. brienne being seen as ugly and unfeminine is pretty integral to her character theres a reason she's mocked as the beauty theres a reason why she started rejecting femininity and feels hurt by it. so much of the misogyny she faces stems from her not fitting the westerosi ideal by not being 'womanly enough', by being too muscular and flat chested and tall and having brittle hair and broad 'manly' features and thats the tragedy of it. brienne shouldn't have to be othered by people for things she cant control but she is and that refusal to accept brienne is what shaped her into what she is when we meet her in a clash of kings. the moment u go 'umm actually ☝️ shes only ugly by westeros standards she wouldn't be seen as ugly today' is when u miss the point. modern day brienne wouldnt fit our standards either because her entire story begins with her being different and an outlier and to keep brienne of tarth as herself u have to keep that too otherwise its not her, its an oc masquerading as brienne the blue

there are two genres of actors i like to call gay. jensen ackles who has the kind of history and persona that makes me want to bully him & accuse him of being closeted in revenge for growing up being hate-crimed by him and also because it's funny and also because it's probably not true but definitely could be. and after a decade of hearing his distasteful gay jokes he just seems like kind of a dick so i don't really care about his feelings.

ryan guzman on the other hand has the history and persona that makes me understand every seemingly contradictory thing he says in interviews and want to get it through to his head that yes of course you're right that being in touch with your emotions does not make you gay and you never should've had to grow up in a homophobic environment that made you have to repress parts of yourself to survive and yes it is really important for guys to be able to see straight men be vulnerable with each other and with their queer male friends on tv without it calling their own sexuality into question. but crucially it is also okay if separate from and unrelated to all that you do just want to sleep with men. it's allowed, man. and it wouldn't make you a bad representation of positive and emotionally-intelligent masculinity. if anything seeing characters like eddie be gay helps to destigmatize homosexuality and show that it's not an insult, that it is normal. he just seems like he cares so much about representing the kind of role model he wishes he had for himself and those around him growing up and playing eddie gives him the avenue to portray vulnerability and emotionality for that kind of audience and he doesn't want to lose that.

he's never cruel or dismissive like jensen ackles, he just gets a little awkward with it and cares a lot about it being done right. the thing is he DOES have incredible zendaya-laughing chemistry with oliver and their characters HAVE been there for each other through it all, when it's good and when it's tough, and their partnership is so special. but, and y'know this may be an incredibly controversial opinion, but i'm a bisexual guy and my best friend is gay and we click and sure when i first met him i had a crush on him but we're not in love though i do love him a lot and would do anything for him, so i do see a lot of him and myself in eddie and buck. and i don't think it would make their relationship any less meaningful if it never went the romantic route, as much as i do see the love and devotion they share and think it would be really fucking awesome if they got to kiss sloppy live on 9-1-1onabc. but they are already each other's person, they're already family. NOT saying that that's never been done before—iconic bffl duo shawn and gus immediately come to mind lol—so it's not really so life-and-death important for the trajectory of the world to keep buddie platonic, just, i do get where ryan's coming from even though i don't think he's right about everything.

all of that being said. for the love of god eddieryan we're gonna get you out. also i hope u get to have your back blown out by oliver stark someday godbless 🙂‍↕️
