The few minutes that Ellen had to wait before the result developed felt like an age to her.
Her breathing was shallow and every nerve ending in her body was on edge. Her hand which was clutching the pregnancy test was sweaty and a clammy cold sweat was coming over her forehead.
When it came time to look at the test, she felt her heart drop in her chest and the sobs came far too easily to her.

Jack: Any genetic match for Jane Doe is a genetic match for Morgan... Aliens. Supernatural shit. This all sounds ridiculous, but I can't deny it happens. But here?
Jack: "Morgan?"
Jack: "It's fine. Everything's fine. She'll turn up..."
Jack: This wouldn't be an issue if she communicated with me more. Does she not trust me enough? I've been trying to be someone she can rely on, but...
Morgan: "Uh... Hey?"
Jack: "Where have you been?"
Morgan: "Literally down the street..."
Jack: "Don't you know how dangerous this place is? There's more criminals here than you realize! And have you just forgotten that you watched a girl get hit by a truck?"
Morgan: "I have not forgotten that, thanks. But I also know you haven't arrested the driver for murder or anything, and you confiscated his license, so I figured I'm probably safe on like a 10 minute walk... By the way, this town has a serious lack of public spaces for teens and kids. I'm thinking of skipping school to attend the next city council meeting."
Jack: "You... I'm... That's truancy, Morgan. And your grades are already terrible!"
Morgan: "I thought we very specifically decided this was like a roommate thing, not a you trying to parent me. If you're trying to change that, thanks but no thanks. I know how to take care of myself."
Jack: "I'm not trying to be a parent, but I am the adult! Now... go to your room!"
Morgan: "Sure thing. I was heading there anyway..."

By the time she got back downstairs, Noah was there with his own plate of pizza.
“Forgive me for saying this” he said as she sat down and finally ate her pizza which was now cold. “But you look awful Ellen. Have you had any sleep this week?”
Ellen found it harder to be mad at Noah. His blunt honesty was refreshing, despite her sour mood.
“I’m fine” she reassured him, wondering if she was lying to him or not. “I...I won’t lie, motherhood and it’s side effects aren’t any better than the pregnancy.”
“Boobs still leaking?” Noah guessed correctly.
Ellen snorted in laughter “Just a bit, and they’re so sore. All the time! Dalton makes the slightest whimper, even if he’s upstairs, and my tits are like ‘Time to flow!’ It’s so frustrating, uncomfortable and embarrassing!”
“That’s why you’ve not been out?” Noah asked. “You’re a bit of a recluse at the mo.”
Ellen tried not to show her desperate need to burst into tears. “I’ll get out of this house eventually. I need and want to go back to work at some stage. I love my son, I just need something other than him occupying my head.”

Most of my engagement with fl these days is hinterland scrip grinding, and my favorite in-character grind is serving food in station viii, and i think it's so funny that you can create infinite dark dew cherries as long as you have broken giant (which i have hundreds of, and also hepsi is not really a drinker in character) by trading the dark dew liqueur with the canny coastermonger for 2 more cherries than it takes to make it
So i effectively have just created a small business selling artisinal goods in the cosmic horror adventure game

Morgan: "You'll have to head out before 11. Jack can be weird when I don't mention something beforehand, and I didn't really ask if I could invite you over."
Anthony: "Ah, the overprotective dad shtick."
Morgan: "Not my dad. Sort of a guardian, I guess?"
Anthony: "Oh, I see. I get it. I live with my sister, and she thinks she should be like acting like my mom or something sometimes, and for me it's just like weird because, yeah, I rely on her for things, but... I'm pretty self-sufficient overall, and sometimes I know better and she's the one acting dumb."
Morgan: "Or having a total freak out over something super minor? I think we have a lot more in common than we realized."
