I love TTRPGS. I love finding a new system and learning it and finding new ideas for the plot. I love bugging my friends for when the next session is and for any shred of information about their story that they're willing to give me. I love writing stupidly long lore docs and making silly picrew after picrew and I love sending writing back and forth with a friend as we try to make each other cry. I love being cryptic after a session, and I love being overdramatically upset when my friends are cryptic after theirs. I love hearing the voices my friends give their characters. I love putting in and seeing easter eggs of our favorite medias as npcs in games. I love celebrating after a triumphant end to a session, and I love freaking out after a terrifying one. I love making and being in discord servers with emojis that are inside jokes about the campaign, and seeing the out of context quotes from earlier sessions. I love making and seeing memes about the things that happened in the game, and what might happen in the future. I love seeing my friends draw their characters so wonderfully, and wishing I could do the same. I love listening to music and thinking about how it fits the campaign or the character or the ship I'm obsessed with. I love buying more and more and more dice, even when it doesn't fit my characters and I have no reason for it. I love coming up with an idea and sending it to my GM at three in the morning. I love everything and everyone these games have introduced me to, from podcasts based around them to songs my friends said remind them of their characters to so much more. I love TTRPGS.

Its my opinion that people need to learn more ttrpgs instead of frankensteining DnD to be another game that other talented writers already made.

Its also my opinion that if someone does do that, its kinda elitist to be all up in their faces about it and invalidate their game.

Given the situation with the Open Game License going on right now I think it's best if independent tabletop game developers talk to lawyers right away. Whether they have or haven't used D&D related content under the OGL they should still prepare for litigation. Paizo, Green Ronin Publishing, Kobald Press, Ghostfire Games, White Wolf, Fantasy Flight, any and all indie devs should prepare. And if possible they should contact and work together, unite against Hasbro and WotC.

Doing some hero suit design for Zephyr for our Mutants and Masterminds game and look at that steampunk look!! Also logo for his hero name "ClockWork" to match up!

Spectacular to see Wizards of the Coast just plain torpedo their remaining goodwill and reputation just 'cause they wanted an even bigger monopoly on tabletop gaming. This is basically an attempt to strongarm Critical Role, Pathfinder, and Mutants & Masterminds amongst many others into either shutting down entirely or giving them money.

hey sorry if this isn't something you normally do but do you or any of your followers have any resources on how to start playing Mutants and Masterminds? I started a superhero game in an indie system that the developers dropped and my group has been trying to move it over to M&M but the system is confusing us (probably because we're trying to port things over, but still).

I’m definitely going to need some help from my followers here, so I’m pushing this forward in the queue. For now, let’s talk about what I found that might be helpful.

Weeknight Hero’s Video Tutorials Weeknight Hero has a series of video tutorials teaching various aspects of M&M, including a playlist for Character Creation and Campaign Creation. They also have examples of creating specific well-known characters, as well as some reviews of combat. There’s just a lot of content here, but none of the videos look terribly long, so if you’re able to sit down and watch a few videos, this might be helpful for you.

Free Ronin Green Ronin appears to have a database of all of their free Mutants & Masterminds content for 3rd edition, including character sheets, example characters, and free adventures. There’s a lot of example characters here, which might be helpful in playing a simple one shot to get used to the system.

Hero Lab Character Creation Looking through the M&M Reddit forums, it looks like the online community swears by the Hero Labs app for help in character creation. It looks like you have to pay for the online M&M data needed to make characters, so this is probably only helpful if your play group is willing to put a little bit of money towards the software. Then again, if character creation is what’s really making things difficult, it might be worth the cost.

The Mutants & Masterminds Reddit Wiki. There’s a whole list of resources for new players and GMs on the M&M reddit community, including character creation examples, different character sheets, sample characters, and tips for new GMs.

D20HeroSRD Wiki This is an open-access wiki that has a lot of breakdowns for various elements of Mutants & Masterminds. THere’s pre-made archetypes here to take a look at, a glossary of terms for folks who are having a hard time parsing things in the book, and breakdowns of gadgets, gear, vehicles, and other things that your characters might want to have (and use) in your game.
