On this day 27 years ago Creed released their debut album “My Own Prison” on the independent record label Blue Collar Records. A few months later it would be re-released on Wind-Up Records. When the album was first released the band was frequently compared to grunge artists such as Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam.
The album would ultimately sell over 15 million copies and includes the singles “Torn”, “What’s This Life For”, “One” and the title track.
What are your favorite songs on this album?

Creed - "Illusion"
From the album My Own Prison
(June 24, 1997)
Last song scrobbled from iTunes at Last.fm
Say what you want, but I still remember the first time I heard this song, remember my disbelief in that quayside bar, as the song on the jukebox, based around a simple, heavy, five-note riff, did everything it should have and never tried anything, not once, that would have fucked it all up. It's not the greatest song of all time or anything, but it is definitely the best it might have been, and I'll take a fucking bullet for it.
File under: Unfairly castigated Nü Metal

you are free now. freer than you've ever been.
it's scary, huh?
you can drink, you can swear, you can be gay if you want.
you can find out being gay isn't really your fit, but you were free to try.
or maybe it is, and now you can kiss anyone.
you can try on clothes they never let you before.
you can be angry, you can carry a knife.
you can be loud, you can carry flowers.
you can be mean. you can be kind. you can deny god and all He was.
you can spend a quiet evening at home, you can have sex.
you can love yourself and hate yourself and do anything.
you don't have to give a single shit about "family values."
you can be anything.
you are free.
you are freer than you've ever been.
freer than they ever wanted you to be.
