Just Dance Care AU!

Ok ok so I thought of a story for this Au but it’s nothing really impactful or full of drama and angst like my other au’s, I wanted to leave this au easy and fun to play around, because, let’s say it. Just Dance and drama in the same sentence makes me laugh.

Anyway here’s the story so far: 

Year 2029, videogames industry made a huge step forward and classic consoles and devices were substituted by the new and upgraded VR headsets with full body tracking. It’s something like the NerveGear in Sword Art Online without the kill switch. Some games still require you to actually move your body (like fitness games or sports because yeah, they don’t have a purpose otherwise). 

Y/n wanted to buy the newest VR headset but, while searching for the best offer, they found out FazCo entertainment was hosting a giveaway, the prize? One of their prototypes, a VR meant to be released the next year coinciding with the opening of their first mega pizza plex.

(so the plex doesn’t exist right now). You decide to sign up for the giveaway and after a while you receive an email telling you you won the VR headset and that, to claim it, you need to read and sign a series of NDA policies (understandable, it’s a prototype headset that’s not even in commerce). Some clauses are a little bit concerning but nothing you hadn’t read on other electronics booklets, so you decide to sign. After, like, a day, you have the VR in your hands. 

The box let you know with super saturated and colorful writing, that the VR came with a game pre-installed inside. Uh, that’s why they were giving one away, they wanted a free game tester…but you know what, it’s worth it.

You always liked Just Dance games, they make you think about happy memories of your childhood. This pre-installed game called “Five Dances at Freddy’s” is a close copy of your childhood game with original FazCo songs, characters, environments and also some collaborations with other famous artists. It probably will be the cause of a big copyright infringement report.

There are various ways to play it: story mode, Casual dance, Five Dances, and Just Dance Care.

The first one is similar to the casual dance mode but with little cutscenes between a dance and another to tell a tale, Casual dance is how you can play the collab songs, Five Dances is the multiplayer mode and Just Dance Care is a more uhhhh “hard” way to play the game with all the other modes mixed in it. You stare at the description of the last mode smirking and decide to try it first just to see how far you can get before losing (yes you can lose in hard mode in this Just Dance, but you don’t die, you just have to restart from the beginning). Turns out the FazCo wasn’t kidding when they advertised the new headset as a breakthrough in the world of virtual reality headsets, the thing TRANSPORTED you inside the game itself. 

You almost have a heart attack when you can’t find your VR on your head, but before you can try something you are blocked by two tall individuals who you think are the “tutorial” characters. 

Yadda yadda, tutorial, you can pause the game and exit whenever you need just by opening an hidden menu, you find out your tutorial characters are called Sun and Moon and that you are way worse than you remembered at dancing (damn full body tracking, there is no way you are going to do a cartwheel in the middle of a dance, you still don’t know if your body is inside your home and if you’ll physically feel pain if you fall and you don’t want to find out).

You pass an embarrassingly long time trying to win your first dance battle just to discover it was still the tutorial. 

You try to go on with the story but you fail at the first real battle with a bear character named Freddy. 

And guess what? You have to start again from the tutorial! Y/n is gonna spend A LOT of time with Sun and Moon if this goes on.

The desired effect….I noticed this even that A pinned a dancing vid post from June 23 ( not one that Luke has liked) to the top of her IG grid. I am wondering if she did this before or after the pics came out…if before she obviously new she was going to get more traffic, possibly follows something that would be part of the NDA and they would see that both Nic and Luke follow her. As you saw from the IG people post no one really knew who she was…obviously. And no one was convinced but it would still peak interest of some to look her up.

They would see a wannabe model dancer with nothing connecting Luke to her page except a few likes and celebrity followers.

It was after, and I do believe it's been unpinned now. She seems to be all over the place. I do think she initially intended to try be an influencer w/ the make up tutorials and fits and such but I think she underestimated how ill- received she'd be, so she's pivoted back to dancing / modeling.

I know some say she should be posting more but engagement can be just as more important. I like this article an Anon sent me. ⤵️

Bottom line, either way once L's obligations are done, he's done no matter if she's working or not!

Boombox headcanons dump! Because I am!!! So normal about him dude!!!!!

- While he definitely has a lot of friends, especially in the music scene (and somehow in places he very much shouldn’t have friends (I’m talking shady alleys and even shadier gangs)), he has none he’d actually consider close

- He’s felt alienated a few more times than he’d like because of this when hanging out with inphernals who are besties (ex: skate and sling), but he always brushes it off quick so he doesn’t bring the vibes down

- Extrovert and people pleaser combo, big part of why he has so many friends

- Knows how to play every single instrument. Don’t ask where he found the time.

^ - Could do a one man band situation if he wanted, much like Pinkie Pie in the parasprites episode or that Aaron Paulsen guy

- EDM’s his favourite genre, but he still loves all the other genres and knows how to compose music for them

- Knows everything music, from its history to all current upcoming artists (and occasionally he’ll know about upcoming things he definitely should not know about considering the amount of nda’s in the entertainment industry)

- Does a LOT of collabs, he’s done more collabs than released solo songs actually

^ - Partially because he’s a massive perfectionist when it comes to his own music, and rarely ever releases his own full songs

- He has an alt account where he posts experiments, wip’s, tutorials and tracks he just decides to leave unfinished. Something about how seeing another’s creative process can be both educational and inspiring

^ - If people beg hard enough on an unfinished track, there’s a high chance he’ll revisit it and actually finish it

- While he seems like a chatty type, he prefers to listen rather than lead the conversation

- Hypeman supreme, he will blast encouragement at you no matter how small or big the challenge may seem

- HATES conflict, and while he’ll try to ease the tension, on the occasion it doesn’t work he’ll just shutdown completely

- Struggles to function without any music playing or some form of constant noise in the background. The quiet unsettles him. Back in Playground, if it was quiet, something was wrong

- Since he always carries his gear around (probably because respawning it takes a lot of energy due to its size), he’s built up some strength and can lift decently heavy loads

^ - This strength has surprised quite a few inphernals, and on the rare occasion, has had its uses in intimidating them out of whatever stupid decision they were going to attempt on him

Like I’m. SO unbelievably mad about Zoochosis it’s not even funny. Parasites and diseases have been a special interest of mine since I was a kid and the trailers were so promising.

Also they showed their hand with Doc too fucking early, but that can be attributed to “you needed more than one day” in this game. The twist of him being an evil bastard would’ve worked better if you didn’t immediately show him pulling out the main characters call to a suicide hotline OR him killing the main character for taking too long to sign an NDA. The rush to get to the meat of it ruins any anticipation or tension for the ultimate reveal.

Multiple days would also give you a chance to get attached to the animals, as just naming them doesn’t really do much, yeah they have cutesy names but they don’t have PERSONALITY. Make one of them approach the player for pets, thus making it easier to do check ups on them. Make one of them run from the player forcing you to utilize your tranqs or even have treats to bribe them, giving more reasons to having those tools in the first place. Having them transform on a set timer immediately also kind of sucks because BOTH playthroughs I watched didn’t use the UV light at all, which having multiple days would fix because the transformations would take longer.

They also fucked up with the “human meat” thing. Yeah ohhhh so scary they’re eating people 🙄🙄🙄 it’s been done to actual death at this point and I feel it’d be much more horrifying to use the carcasses of the infected animals creating a never ending cycle if they aren’t truly cured. Feeding infected carcasses to other animals is LITERALLY how mad cow disease started!!!!

It could’ve been a critique on the greed found in some Zoos as well as fake animal rescues, where they claim to help animals but only do it for profit, but instead we got a boring story about some evil guy who???? Feeds a monster for an undisclosed reason the devs probably didn’t fully consider.

“The parasites didn’t attack you because you were infected uwu” LAME!! BORING!!! I don’t care that they didn’t insta kill you but they should at least MAUL you a little!!! Change how the player got the parasite from doc giving it to you to you eating infected food!! Maybe doc even purposefully infected the food!! The game also explained there were some variants of the parasites that would attack and kill any competition! They could still keep their “parasites don’t attack and kill you” thing but limit it! Maybe only the tutorial one doesn’t kill you but the others are the more aggressive kind due to evolution!!

There are so many better ways the parasites could’ve been handled but it feels like the devs truly had no love towards the subject matter? Maybe they did at some point but too many people got involved and the love and care was lost in translation.

It’s just so disappointing as somebody who actually enjoys reading and learning about parasites, fictional or otherwise. We got no real story, lore, or information about them. Would a sequel fix it? Maybe! Only if they cut half the team out of the writing room and focused on actually caring a little about story and lore beyond “discount colonel sanders wants to feed alien mommy”

Underrated gif maker, and I say this with no bias, is definitely Ida @bizarrelittlemew because she just puts in so much effort in all her gifs. Ida looks through tutorials and then also does so much on their own, but mainly: if you look at all the recent gifs, they have such a unique Ida ™️ vibe to them. From rotoscoping (still don't know what that is) to playing with blending, Ida deserves to be right up there with one of the most creative gifmakers this fandom has produced recently.

Unfortunately I just very very rarely hang out reading ofmd fics T-T (I'm mostly in the hobbit and sandman fandom side of ao3) and there are a few writers I love and I tend to stick to them (xoxoemynn, forpiratereasons being the main ones) Most of what I read and like in the fandom is when a mutual ends up writing something that isn't modern au.

Having said that, underrated writer to me 100% is @palavapeite because their writing just never fails to transport me to whatever setting they're talking about. Listen, I just don't read modern AUs, they don't do it for me (def a me issue, I'm sure there are brilliant modern au writers in this fandom but it's something I filter out) but I would absolutely recommend this fic as something that brought me so so much joy, is fast becoming my more reread fic, because it did a perfect job with getting Stede's voice right. I can hear every single thing he says in my mind, it's SO good. Also their fic with priest!stede lives rent free in my head and I would soon find the time to read their non blackbonnet fics.

Another one is adamarks who, again, has such a good grasp on Ed and Stede's character that it doesn't matter which AU Jay has picked, it just always always works somehow. My favourite is this fic tho which is just so them that I might as well weep.

For artists, my recent faves (and I think they're underrated) are Lilo @harrylovesspaezle who's so so talented and I still can't get over that sketchbook tour - the growth and love for this show ough, @ofmderapolag whose pieces are just so so dreamy, and also @spookynadja whose style just floors me every single time.

I'd also like to shout out one underrated category, people who write such amazing text posts like @ourfag who obviously has the s3 scripts and is only sharing them with us in small increments due to the nda and @tulipseason for the currently unpublished book of "1 million ways I will articulate how much I love hit television show our flag means death"

and then there's my favourite most beloved cheerleaders who are always lifting up new writers and artists too like @marbledwings and @insteading ❤️ I especially love that everyone has a beautiful story with these two, you could ask any small or big writer in the fandom if they've been made to cry by wings or insteading and yeah, they're just lovely.

okay I got a question about the role swap au, so what role does halara, desuhiko, Fubuki and Vivia have? Do they work at Amaterasu corporation?

hiii thank you so much for asking <333 they also have swapped with all of the peacekeepers, so they work under yuma for amaterasu. that means the peacekeepers also become detectives! not sure on whether or not ill draw all that but we'll see ^w^ also- the rest of the cast does not swap. it's just the NDA and the peacekeepers. makoto plays the same role, and also the side characters such as victims and culprits. except chapter 4. i haven't fully formed my ideas about how chapter 4 turns out, since in this au, huesca is already dead.

i actually have a (really long) detailed post about the AU and everyone's roles, so if you're curious about it you can check it out here! the short version is that the roleswaps go like this:

and here's some bonus info on them:

halara, while not as straightforward as swank about their desire for money, would still insist on yomi's arrest while also trying to swindle money out of him. they're just as cool and intimidating as always, and they are honestly a really cruel tutorial enemy lmao i think their arguments would be hard to counter. halara's mystery phantom would have a lot of gambling aesthetics to it, like a fancy blackjack dealer that's decorated with dominoes and playing cards and they also look like a member of the band Kiss attending a pride parade. yknow?

vivia does largely the same as seth does: covering up the truth for his personal benefit. he facilitates funds from the church under yuma's command and is genuinely pretty distraught when yuma throws him under the bus (in private, yuma would tell him he's being punished for such a sloppy investigation, despite vivia's protests that pursuing and exposing the truth would only hurt their funds and image). as an antagonist, vivia has a running bit where, instead of being too quiet to hear and needing a peacekeeper with a megaphone, he speaks in riddles and metaphors, sees no one understands him, and sighs heavily before just saying it straightforward lol. his mystery phantom would resemble a shambling yet haunting corpse. with disco rainbow lights on it.

desuhiko and fubuki work as a pair, however this time, unlike dominic, fubuki talks (side note: in this AU, dominic actually does talk. though, to keep the bit going, i think his first gumshoe gab with yomi would be yomi trying to spark up a conversation and dominic just silently glaring at him clearly wishing he'd go away. then yomi senses his killing intent and is like okay damn ill leave. martinagami then says they grew closer from that lmao. anyway.). desuhiko and fubuki have a comedy duo act dynamic where fubuki says something ridiculous and desuhiko plays the "straightman" role (not the sexuality, the comedy term) and it's lovely. their mystery phantoms would make them appear like a pair of traveling performers (at a pride parade), combining desuhiko's love for the stage and fubuki's love for adventure.

PART 1: Expectations going into the game

(Lunadys) Let’s start off by being honest about what our expectations were. It’s Bioware. (Adromeda ... Anthem *cough cough*) I just wanted a game that wasn’t going to crash on install and a story that was at least palatable. I play Bethesda games, I’m wasn’t asking for the moon. I hoped beyond hope that they wouldn’t just kill off Solas in a lazy hollywood/disney style ‘redemption’ arc.

(Lillithdraagon) This game has been in development hell for a decade. EA has clearly been fucking with things behind the scenes. Hell, at one point Veilguard was going to be a fucking mmo. Then there were the layoffs and a whole lot of drama I don’t want to get into, but needless to say, I was worried. I don’t know what I really expected out of the game. For all I pretended I was excited I was scared they would completely drop the ball. I had a dwindling hope that stubbornly refused to die that they would do Solas’ story justice. He is a morally gray character and whether you see him as a hero, a villain, or like me; something in between, you cannot deny that this game was always going to be centered around him. That much, I knew for certain.

(Lillith) So the gameplay trailer released and I watched it with bated breath. It was more than I could have hoped. The vibes were right. I loved the art style. And Minrathous blew me away. I’ll admit at that point I started vibrating with excitement. And that feeling didn’t go away until I had the game in my hands. I had pre-ordered the game. Downloaded it on my shitty Australian internet at 2am when it dropped and played it on release day for 18hrs. I was awake for 38hrs total that day. Then I finished the whole game in a week. So yeah. It was fucking good.

(Lunadys) Let’s try to break this down in a way you guys can read it without having an aneurysm going forward.

The tutorial and the rest of the game are 2 separate games. You’re funneled through the opening sequence with all this action, with in depth interactions with your companions, there’s a narrative playing out and you’re right there in the thick of it. It FEELS like Dragon Age has had some sort of awakening and you’re about to be in for the ride of your life.

Then... it’s just God of War 2018. You break pots to get health back. Rolling into crates is never even mentioned as weird by a single character in game. Not even in Nevarra or the Merchant districts of Dock Town. NPCs are pretty much static. There is no movement on the city streets. Your companions all but solve the puzzles for you as soon as you find them... gee thanks Bellara. Enemy encounters respawn for maximum grind-ability. You feel railroaded like you do in DA2.

Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but seeing a place in the distance and thinking ‘wow that’s so cool, I can’t wait to go there’ and then leaving that mission area and never returning feels... empty. It feels like you’re playing a video game. Arcade style. There is a level of immersion that is just broken. And yes. It is a video game. I understand that. So for as much as it leaves me with a hollow sense of meh, it’s not the end of the world.

This does bring us to our next point however.

here's how to export from Open Brush

I started out by being a 3D environment concept artist - I made landscapes in Open Brush and then exported them and sent them over to our team's texture artist. we made some amaaaazziinngg stuff that is still sadly under NDA and I have no idea when that will be lifted 😓

but yeah there are soooo many fun things you can do with 3D stuff made in-headset. upload it to a social platform as a world, animate a humanoid character with Mixamo, add custom textures and lighting, just... anything and everything you can find a tutorial video on, haha.

Yeah, some people are freaking out over the clause that's about the right to redistribute, alter images, etc. and that's the like. Shit that's on every website or net-connected program. That's just being able to make thumbnails, host your images and whatnot.

But this? Sections 2.2 and 4.1? This is actually dangerous.

Automation is one thing, those tend to be harmless housekeeping tasks within set parameters, like making thumbnails. Manual review means a real person can look at any of your work at any time for any reason. Their "when legal" but is purposely misleading--it's made to sound like "oh this will only happen if we get a warrant and reason to inspect your files". No. By agreeing to their ToS, everything you make is legal to view now, no reason required.

Every company is on fire right now, and rightfully so. This is a disaster for anyone working under NDA's, trade secrets, etc. Which is, like. Pretty much all work in a professional capacity.

Adobe actually, literally will not make it out alive from this without some serious backtracking and major revisions. Which I hope they don't, necessary because they've been irredeemably evil since way before the subscription model.

And remember, torrenting is SUPER easy! Just use a VPN (I recommend Proton VPN, it's free!) and look up a tutorial, I promise it's so much easier than you think. Reddit has some great guides and resources. Happy sailing, me hearties 🏴‍☠️
