At first I thought the Toymaker’s “too many teeth” reveal was meant to be an uncanny valley effect; a personification of something that isn’t human pretending to be human. Like an AI image that doesn’t wholly complete its replica of a person, despite its efforts. And maybe that truly is what it’s meant to be for us.

But then I remembered that The Master became one of these teeth by LOSING A GAME to the Toymaker. This carries the implication that the Toymaker may have Too Many Teeth because his mouth is full of TROPHIES OF HIS DEFEATED ENEMIES.

At first I was a little annoyed at how unsubtle Doctor Who's approach to controversial topics is, but then I thought, why not? Why not have an extremely bold non-binary villain who makes sure no one gets their pronouns wrong? Why shouldn't every second woman be a lesbian? Why should they not call out people who let the church think for them? Sometimes the only way to get your message, a very important message in my opinion, across is to just scream it in people's faces so that they have no choice but to see it and think about it. And the best part is that they aren't villanizing people who didn't agree with the message or even people that are directly against it. They are instead showing how those people can learn and grow and change if you only have patience and give them a chance and explain yourself, kindly, to them. It's exactly what I have always liked about Doctor Who. The commitment to kindness, peace, education, normalization and growth.
