Albatross
It’s a ghost in the night that keeps me awakewith whispering, muttering, sighing, and nudges in my poetic ribs.It pokes me with imageryand ties me up in allegoryuntil I reach for notebook and pen. It’s a ghost in the early morning, a wispof verse draped across my aching neck,a metaphoric albatrosschecking rhymes, ensuringenjambment and caesura makesense, without a syntactical break.By dawn, it’s…

hàlo, repeat
It’s that time of year! I’m gonna do it again! And in my final quarter of grad school, no less! Because I don’t have enough to do, apparently!!!!!
If anyone’s following this and is unfamiliar with NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo, check out my first post from last year here.
Same sort of thing as last year; I take poetry very seriously and not seriously at all at the same time, so the point of me doing this again is to:
Have a creative outlet
Release all my pent-up stress (Lord knows it’s about the same, if not more, than last year)
Connect with people, whether you make yourselves known or not
Show off a tiny bit, okay? I’ve turned in some really good writing for my grad program recently and I’m feeling good about my skillz
Some new goals for this year:
Not anticipate as much and just go with the flow of each day as much as I can
Flex and mine the writing parts of my brain for ideas that I could also use for my final project for school
Use this as WD-40 for writer’s block while working on my summary project
Archive, chronicle, journal--whether I knew it at the time or not, it’s become an historical artifact of this part of my personal timeline. I’m in love with libraries and the practice of documenting and archiving and love that something like this is such a natural way of chronicling my own history, for me.
Cool cool, you should do Na/GloPoWriMo too if you can, the prompt website I follow is here and they post every day in April. Aaaaaahhhhh okay here we go!

GloPoWriMo - Day 2
GloPoWriMo – Day 2
Silver Lining
Tumblr media
Out here
In the Southern Hemisphere
In a country where it’s usually sunny
Times like these are funny
The clouds are grey
Or so they say
  I will live another day
Come what may.
Daily Prompt: “write a poem about a specific place,” from Na/GloPoWriMo.

Noah and the Strawberry - a poem, NaPoWriMo Day four
Noah and the Strawberry – a poem, NaPoWriMo Day four
It’s day four of National Poetry Writing Month. Not one of my better days. I was doing fine until about 9.15am. Twelve hours later and I’m doing fine again. The intervening hours were a bit of a struggle. Yay, autism! They also contained something very good – taking along a bit of my writing for an exhibition of creative work by local autistic people. Again, Yay, autism!
It’s day four of the…

Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy Chronic illness allows an uncanny stillness Sifting through what could have been Allows a time of reflection As my hymn has been written Daily, I praise GOD Being able to wake up in my right mind is precious Knowing the faculties of my body have been sustained Butterflies dance upon me like a refrain Reframing ideas of giving up Lifting my head As the wings wipe away my…

So Many Questions
So many questions to write aboutNecessary writing accessorySome fun products from my RedBubble store with my question mark bokeh design. Maureen writes -
Well, it’s happened again, everyone. We’ve gotten to the final day of another Na/GloPoWriMo! We’ll be back tomorrow with a post to laud our final, featured participant, but in the meantime, let’s get to it!
Today, we have another trio of featured participants. First up, here’s Backwoods Walking‘s lyrical and nostalgic response to Day 29’s “gifts” prompt, and second and third, rather humorous responses from Graham Parker’s Poetry and Poetic Inquiry for Beginners.
Our final featured online magazine is Freeze Ray, which specializes in poems about pop culture. From their most recent issue, I’ll point you to Thomas Fucaloro’s “Into the Spider-verse Deleted Character: Charles Baudelaire Parker, the Loathsome Spiderman” and Heather Knowles’ “Wow (Or, the Time I Served Owen Wilson Coffee).”
And my response is (more or less) as follows -
Morning everyone - and a bittersweet one eh. Thank you to everyone here for your good company as we have written our way through the month! :)
If you do happen to check out the FreezeRay issue highlighted today, I also have a poem there...
It's a weirdo little multi-choice poem, inspired by a (much more serious) poem by Regi Claire, and is a throwback to my HUGE obsession with the movie Clueless - yes, from the time it first came out [that's my vintage, right there!].
May be back / hope to be back / with a cento later :)
PS and thanks to Maureen, for all the inspiration generally and for including my piece as one of the featured poems today :)
