Amnesia!Rachel 💔 A few years back someone submitted stories to you, right? Did they finish it? And where can I read it, do you know?

I’m not sure if it was ever officially finished, but it did get to the point of a satisfying resolution. NG, otherwise known as naggingGargoyle, did post it on FFN at one time in a fic titled Nobody Told Me, but it’s since been removed. 

I do, however, still have all of the original submissions on my blog tagged ng.

Are there any fanfics that you guys enjoy/found inspiration from/recomend?

It was… really hard not to just spam like a good 30 fics here. So for the sake of brevity, each of us has limited ourselves to three fanfics that are completed, and directly inspired Faded Blue in some capacity.

In fact, we did make a longer fic recs list right here, because we couldn’t contain ourselves. But below, a shortlist:

Bold, Precise, Experimental by @dr-jekyl. “Two pearls see a ghost and elect to take an unwise risk.” A story about the impact the Terrifying Renegade had on the people she had left behind, even millennia after she supposedly vanished.

The Assassination of Pink Diamond by the Coward Rose Quartz by @oathkeeper-of-tarth. “The Earth represents many things and many freedoms. Amongst them, perhaps, a place for a pearl and a quartz to be in love. Or: the start of the rebellion.” While some of the details are non-canon by now, this is one of my favourite takes on how this whole Crystal Gem thing began…

Learning to Breathe Underwater by Roadsandburrows. “A mysterious break-in at an underwater lab facility leads to Steven and the Crystal Gems recovering an injured, hurting, and mistrustful Lapis Lazuli, and Steven insists on enlisting his family to try and help Lapis get back on her feet and deal with the loss of everything she’s ever known...”This is an older fic which was started before the Sardonyx arc, and so is now very much non-canon, but an excellent alternate take on how Lapis and Peridot could’ve joined the team. Great example of how to do a longer adventure story. 

Landslide by midas_touch_of_angst. “Steven doesn’t remember anything before the age of six. He’s been traveling with Lapis Lazuli for years, but when they get separated, she tells him to go to a town called Beach City. While he’s waiting for her, he starts to discover secrets that Lapis kept from him. And when he starts to have dreams about other gems on Earth, he wonders whether or not he can trust the only friend he’s had for years.”

A well thought out and executed AU, it shows perhaps one of the most interesting representations of Lapis. We view her both at what is probably her most scornful and selfish, but also viewed through the lens of what is essentially her adoptive son. If you’re a Lapis fan, you shouldn’t miss this one.

You do it for Them by @silverscribe87. “Sometimes the student has to teach the teacher a lesson they already know.”

A simple fic at heart, it is a beautifully written story, exploring Connie and Pearl’s relationship as student, teacher, and as friends. To say anymore would really just start to give story beats, so go read it. You won’t regret it.

Bubbled by @auratusuniverse. “An alternate ending to “Bubbled”. Connie deals with losing Steven and with having some very realistic dreams about her lost friend.”

Major, major angst warning right up front. This story does not end happily. Especially if you’re a connverse shipper, it will tear you apart. But even then, damn is it worth. A look into a world where Steven was lost in space during the events of ‘Bubbled’, this is a heavy and very emotional look at how Connie could possibly deal with that. The journey will hurt, but it’s worth it.

homeworld pearls series by @nagginggargoyle. “Pearl hasn’t always been treasonous, but she has always been… flawed.”

One of the earliest fics about Pearl bonding with another Pearl (and eventually other Pearls) on Homeworld, even before Blue Pearl and Yellow Pearl was revealed in canon. 

The Stars, Like Dust by @oathkeeper-of-tarth. “Pearl, before.”

A series of related oneshots about what Pearl’s life on Homeworld was like before the war, before the rebellion, and even before she met Rose Quartz. Note that these were written way before Back to the Barn, and some of the details may be noncanon now, but these are still excellent all the same.

And lastly, not quite a fic (but rather, filled with fic snippits): @projectormom‘s blog, which contains a rich collection of headcanons, worldbuilding, fic ideas, etc. about Pearl’s origins and Pearls in general. It discusses extensively about Pearl Solidarity and Pearl Rebellion, and a lot of notable Pearl writers have been influenced by the ideas here

Hi, nagginggargoyle! You know, I'm a fan of some of your works. Anywhoo...

8. Favorite moment in the series?

Gosh, what a hard question! 'cause I love so many moments. Hmmm... Well my first answer will always be the last act of Rose's Scabbard, starting from when Steven and Lion was chasing Pearl up until the very last shot. It's just so... perfect.

9. Something you would like to see happen?

It would be awesome if the Ruby Squad eventually joined the team sometime after their trip to Neptune.

11. Who do you want to see more of?

I hopal for more Opal!

14. Your favorite fusion?

Not counting Garnet, my answer would be either Opal or Malachite.

u should watch kurau phantom memory. it's a really beautiful, quiet & heartfelt scifi anime about aliens, family, loss & recovery and its protagonist is wonderful and one of the few gnc women on any media ever. she wears a very nice tux in one episode. it's great

The night of Quinn's 16th birthday at Rachel's house (near the end of part 3). It was huge for Quinn to take that step with Rachel, to be so intimate and allow herself to be that vulnerable with her girlfriend. And it was something that brought Faberry even closer together, not just physically, but emotionally. It was an important moment in their relationship and in Quinn's personal growth.

✄: something i deleted before the final draft

There was a really brief, transitional scene in part 2 that I ended up cutting and replacing with the Quinn/Frannie fight at Poetz's suggestion. It was definitely the right move. :)

∞: something i wish i’d done differently

I'm pretty happy with the fic overall, but recently I wondered if maybe I should have had another scene at the end of the fic, after their first time... like maybe Faberry are snuggled up together on the porch on a cool, autumn day, drinking hot chocolate, and have Quinn reflect on all those things she currently does in the story's last paragraph.
