Today's OC showcase is Chaya Matana, a Genshin Impact OC hailing from Natlan! They are my take on a Yumkasaurus gijinka, or basically a Yumkasaur who "cultivated" somewhat like the adepti and became humanoid. They were specifically Mavuika's Yumkasaur, and have been waiting for her return through the entire war. They are generally very eager to help others, to cover up their own difficulties.

I would love to see them meeting other Genshin Impact OCs, or exploring any region now that it's safe to leave Natlan! A lot of possibilities to explore for them~

From the day she met you, Mavuika saw you as a symbol of freedom for Natlan. She met you as a Phoenix 500 years ago, which set her heart ablaze with determination, especially when you showcased your intelligence and strength in many ways that left her in awe. Every decision, every word you spoke, aided her plan to save her nation. She felt relief when you agreed to be her lover, a loneliness deep inside her finally filling at your presence.

Many centuries later, she still finds herself seeking out your wisdom for any decision she makes. She respects you as a powerful elemental being that has served her nation for years at her side and therefore made your word more important than her own. Your mastery over the Pyro elemental that rivals her own leaves her in awe every time, too.

And as she watched you fly over her home country as a Phoenix like you did so long ago, she felt at ease to know that her nation could too rise from the ashes of its defeats alongside you.

Ei, at the height of her obsession with eternity, saw you as someone who perfectly conformed, yet at the same time rebelled against her ideals. A Phoenix flew too close to the sun and got reborn from the ashes its old self left behind, but that meant that you were changed and the same alike. Your wisdom and intelligence are what made her often rethink her thoughts and ideals whilst she meditated in her abode. You often join her there for some tea and sweets, claiming that she wasn't alone anymore and shouldn't act like it either.

Your absolute mastery over the pryo element is something she definitely admired. She likes to train with you every now and then to strengthen herself, as she saw you as a better equal. This also means that she greatly respects your opinions and thoughts, despite her own ideals usually having a priority.

She sees you as the voice of reason that guides her through tougher situations she can't handle.

Yae enjoys spending her own immortal life at your side in the shrine. Your life together is never bland, especially not with her teasing and playful nature. Your intelligence and wisdom meshes well with her own mischief and cunning version of it, which makes you both a very powerful couple unbeknownst to many. She likes taking the backseat, though, and let's you take over most things when she's feeling especially lazy that day. It just proves how much she trusts and values you and your knowledge.

With that said, she's not shy in expressing her love for how strong you are. She'll stay around to watch you train or use your abilities for even the mundanest things with an admiring glint in her eye. She compliments you for it at all times without a fail, practically making it her goal to fluster you as much as she can. She just adores you so much.

Expect her to make jokes about you essentially being a bird and her a fox... they tend to be at times concerningly grim.

You see, I am one of those probably few people who enjoy Natlan (atleast among Genshin players on Tikt0k) and seeing critics towards it is nothing new to me, and I have watched/read some myself because despite liking it, I am not blind towards the flaws of that certain Teyvat nation.

There's really nothing wrong with criticisms, especially constructive ones. And there's also nothing wrong if you hate a certain aspect of the game you like because we all have different preferences and not everything is made for us to enjoy/tailored to our liking.

Natlan characters have flaws in their design, just like every other nation. But to CONSTANTLY bring up the characters' skin color and outfit flaws on contents that doesn't even mention either on contents that simply showcases gameplay, damage, or even just expressing one's excitement over the certain Natlan character, I don't think those comments were expressing an opinion for the sake of expressing it, but rather they probably can't stand the fact that someone likes Natlan.

If you hate Natlan, cool, you're not obligated to like it. But to CHOOSE to comment SPECIFICALLY on a content that doesn't even bring up whatever you're trying to criticise (there are already TONS of Natlan criticism videos where you can put your damn 'criticism' comment on—they're not hard to find), is it really about "expressing my opinion"? Or you simply just can't stand people enjoying the things you hate, the things you are heavily biased against?

No matter how hated Natlan is, no matter how many criticism it gets, there will always be people who would find it enjoyable. Not everyone will hate the things you hate. Not everyone will agree with you. And you certainly don't need to force everyone to have the same opinion with you because as long as there are different minds, there will always be different opinions.

Just because 'everyone' does, doesn't mean everyone will.

If you are that someone who can't stand the fact that there will always be people liking the things you hate, someone who can't stand someone happy regarding something you dislike, then you have insecurities you should talk about someone instead of venting it out on people on the internet who have nothing to with you.

Let them be. Let them be happy about something. If you are a Natlan hater/critic, there are criticism videos you where can leave your comment on (or even create a content for yourself) instead of constantly spamming on positive Natlan contents. Let people enjoy whatever the fvck they want just as no one is stopping you from hating the things you hate.

You can't convince everyone to believe/like/hate the things you do.

I HAVE some degree of mixed feelings about the quest but ultimately I’m chilling. I am mainly satisfied with the fact it feels the writers cared about the quest and these characters and had fun with it. Thats rlly what I wanted most after feeling their heart just wasn’t into like anything about the Natlan cast much at all.

I have some minor nitpicks with how they seem to be handling Durin but I’m really putting a pin in those for now until we actually get a feel for what the final state of his character is going to be…My main grievance is I’m not a fan of og!Durin being presented as super evil and malicious in this quest when I feel alot of stuff they’ve done about him is centered on implying otherwise. It makes Mini Durin “taking his place” feel kind of…eehhh because I really think “replacing this tragic neglected angry dragon child who was just irreparably evil with a more palatable version of him” really undercuts any thematic message you want to send through Durin’s character :(

Again though I’m withholding a strong opinion on this until I see where they go from here with it…I think my ideal scenario is human Durin has a personality that feels like a merging of Mini Durin and Original Durin, and we get a concrete sense of Original Durin’s character that isn’t some embodiment of undesirable innate evil we need to Get Rid Of and is more “confused monster that didn’t really grasp the damage it was causing due to how it was freaking out” which again I feel is, repeatedly showcased to be who Durin is as a character in both Simulanka and Teyvat! Ideally I think I’d want to see the Original Durin part of Human Durin calming down and finding peace in fully merging into this new identity….

idk! I just want anything that doesn’t have the undertone of “yeah this version of Durin (a character established to be tragic who lived an existence that was entirely confused suffering and alienation that is compared to a child lashing out) was just irreparably evil so we killed it and replaced it with this new better version” 😞 which just feels like a weird sort of retcon if that’s what genshin’s intention was. I don’t feel entirely confident this was the message the quest was trying to send, I could see them writing the “yeah Durin is evil and jealous and wants to kill Albedo” as something you’re not supposed to take at 100% face value and they intend to lean into the “angry/hurt child acting out” aspect of it or have this be a depiction of the fact Durin is often mistaken to be acting out of malice when he’s actually not and it’s just kind of hard for him to exist non destructively in the world .

But hmmm. That was just my reading of the quest, I may have missed something…and either way am waiting for what Human Durin’s characterization’s is like to really gauge my full stance on it!

i like how people argue who's older in the dynamic because they both,,, seem like the oldest and the youngest depending on how you look at it. they're so intertwined actually. ACTUALLY!!

I've always considered these two the strongest (in terms of combat). people argue that chascas also super strong and I agree but for now I'm going to only talk about kinich and iansan

absolute power duo. if they did showcase spars at the start of pilgrimages, to boost morale, mavuika would totally make these two fight it out on the ring and people would go mad every time. malipo and uwezo going head-to-head. maybe they even have a win counter and they catch each other every other time. just me? me and my self indulgent ass? okay. these two and iansan are mavuikas trio and I've said this many times (i will continue to say it). they're so DONE. iansan at least is endeared and polite about it. kinich and xilonen will not hesitate to give mavuika a stern one and I'm sure mavuika appreciates it.

OKAYY so this is the duo that has a lot of potential IMO here we go!!

kinich is essentially citlalis dealer but instead of questionable substance, it's inazuman novels (which is. kinda of questionable substance if you're citlali but. but.)

he doesnt KNOW what hes bringing her either but I imagine citlali keeps hiring him only because she knows he wouldn't say anything (or care, in the first place) and so every few weeks kinich keeps getting these commissions to bring these abnormally heavy stacks of papers to citlalis door. he doesn't care tho!! money!! (this is canon btw idk why im stating it like a hc)

citlali canonically calls kinich a brat (AQ) which i think is hilarious. she just hates her male grandsons. they do everything wrong in her eyes

(she seems to like testing fate. with her own mortality and others') I wonder if shes realised she probably cant prevent kinichs unfair death? assuming kinich is 25, he'll live around 12% of citlalis current lifespan yikess

something that gobsmacked me initially is xilonen telling kinich he's "the only one who knows how to handle [citlali]" during AQ. like. what does this even mean??

aside from mav and ororon, i think xilo and kinich are actually some of citlalis closest friends. mostly because they arent scared of her and treat her like any other person. granted they don't show enough respect as citlali would like (see AQ) but fr I think that's why citlali loves them

or citlali just appreciates kinich's mental processing and his ability to act like nothing is happening around him when fact shows that everything is*

1. kinich walks into citlalis house and it reeks of beer, possible puke and that smell that comes from not leaving the house for three days straight, and Does Not React. dgaf final boss 2. citlali crashes out over ororon being ororon (whats new) and kinich just nods absentmindedly. "yes grandma lets get you back to bed" ass character 3. citlali straight up tells him, to his face, "boy you are going to crapping DIE before you reach 30 and I cant figure out a way to stop it" and kinich just goes "yeah ik" no comfort, no sadness, no anger. at most there's awkwardness in the air. but that's it. 4. *we all saw him during AQ right. "I'm worried about mavuika" and he has the slightest, smallest downward curve to his lips and not a single crinkle to his eye. yes, you look very worried kinich. you look very worried. god I love his headband because it just makes him look like he's in a loading screen 24/7. he's still booting up guys. leave him alone.

because i KNOW ororon looks up to kinich. he's one of mavuikas first heroes ofc, and he's also so well-spoken, confident in his abilities and purpose, mentally and physically strong, logical and analytical. basically everything ororon strives to be.

oh, and theyre also the only other guys out of the six.

*disclaimer i know ororon is very capable of himself and I was exaggerating his airheadedness because it was funny. dw ororon fans I got you. this guy could be a serial killer if he tried hard enough and murder didn't completely contradict his character trust we love ororon and we think he's very intelligent. sometimes.

hc capitanos death hit ororon really hard (thats the canon part) so he started looking out for his friends more often and psychoanalysing their actions for whether they're planning to kill themselves (oh god), and absolutely dreads the day kinich is going to die. he searches high and low for some sort of solution but if citlali couldn't do it there's no chance he could so now he just has to accept it somehow. moving on!

CHASCA AND KINICH: THE CLOSEST THINGS WE'LL GET TO LAW ENFORCEMENT IN NATLAN!!

okay i love these two i think their personalities are pretty similar only chasca is more trigger-happy and kinich more seemingly apathetic. if they had to play good cop bad cop they'd both be bad cops idk it is what it is

out of the six heroes, these two would be the most physical/carry out the dirty work. stay with me now.

1. theyre the most morally ambiguous imo. and its not in the way that they will harm innocents in a war, for example (they could, but id say theyd try avoid that outcome as much as possible), but that they can hurt the enemy in ways the other four cannot. ororon has (imo) clean-cut morals and lines he refuses to cross. i think he, iansan and mualani are simply too (and I don't mean this in a bad way) soft and kind-hearted to harm someone beyond necessary. they have the physical strength to, but they wont. 🤷 xilonen is a bit more confusing, but I do believe she normally wouldn't just because she wouldn't consider it necessary. chasca and kinich might, but xilonen wouldnt. i read her character stories and she does not seem like the type to believe in physical lessons the way chasca or kinich would. yo what i cant believe i just wrote that. im keeping it because thats deep but damn i didnt mean for it to be while the other four wouldnt, chasca and kinich may. theyre a little harsher on the world as we've seen from their characters, and i think between kinich's skewed perspective of "price" (not in the form of money) and chasca's abyss-tainted bloodlust, they could definitely go overboard in the eyes of worldly moral. not their morals, but our morals.

of course im open to discussion on this !! i wrote this in like five minutes even though this is breaking into character analysis territory oops

2. starting to realise i could just make a separate post on this but ehhh you know that tt audio "the dragon has three heads"? go search it up and listen to it if you dont because im about to yap on why chasca and kinich are mavuika(the dragon in this scenario)'s murderers - iansan and mualani would be the monarchs. both are loved by natlan, boost morale and have heavy influence on their respective tribes - xilonen and ororon are the "mad". no explanation i think they fit perfectly - so that leaves chasca and kinich as the murderers. obviously if we divide the six into three groups, these two would HAVE to go in the section of the ruthless. because. you know. theyre the most ruthless of the six. dw this isnt deep i just yapped for fun hahahha i love being self indulgent

both got a soft spot for saurians and sore spot towards humans WAIITT let me cook....guys dont leave... let me tell you how they were both screwed over by people just like them and saved by animals when they were at their lowest,,

kinich trained himself to eat only whats absolutely necessary to save money, so when varesa pulled up with an ass ton of popcorn chicken (and kinich had offered to pay for ALL OF THAT)....ik afterwards he either threw up like ajaw said he would, or went straight home and cried. that was like a week worth of food (exaggerated). kinich never taking varesa to a resturaunt ever again 😭

wrio and kinich both came from rather disturbing childhoods. i think they'd bond great over that, not even including their overall personalities which seemed to really click over the course of the event lol i love them theyd have a long distance father-son relationship. wrio please be the one. dont give kinich another set of parental issues (nah ik wrio wouldnt do that. he knows what it's like. WHICH IS WHY HE'D MAKE SUCH A GOOD ONE!!) theyre also both just underground law enforcement (less official in kinichs case but still. he followed a whole ass shady gang because he got a gut feeling they were up to something. didnt have to. but did because he feels like natlan is his responsibility) and i think thats really cool
