man it's like. impossible to buy a dumb phone now. i had an old LG brick in hs (like. virgin mobile? maybe?) and you could top it up and it cost $.25 to make a call or $.10 to text and otherwise you could just forget it in a drawer and i guess plans like that don't exist anymore and barely either do dumbphones.

OOHHHHH!! TO END THIS POST WITH THE FIRST SENTENCE OF "JACKET"!! THATS SO COOL!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE PAST TEN YEARS!! PLEASE CONTINUE YOUR YAPPING TO YOUR HEARTS CONTENT!!
HAPPY TEN YEARS TO THIS BLOG AND JACKET
if you've been here as long as this blog's existence then, know i'm finna yap:
sorry but warning for me and my mental health and my journey here...
smiles i am only human after all <:3 without further ado—
i've put off this post for... many reasons (hoildays, stress, perfectionism, anxiety) but maybe i'll keep this rendition and not chicken out or delete it because it's not perfect?
i really still can't believe i missed the anniversary for this! nov 29th huh? (yes i can actually !!! at the time i had just started a new job and that's where all my willpower has been.) but i fondly remember those ten years ago, that nov 29th is just as close to december anyway. so i always lead myself to think it's dec and not nov! details !!!
i don't think it'd make a difference but i do so want to get this in before the new year... (adding unnecessary stressors to myself smh)
it's been quite a ride through addhell. it's weird... to think how much has happened here. it's insane to think about how this one white hair anime boy changed my live in ways i could never fathom
picture it with me, a no one in a group of friends. with nothing but... the ambition of friendship, and the love of writing to fuel him, and a new username ready to take on the world: mymastermine.
that group of friends holds three: me, my would be DIE, and my would be LP. (does... does anyone remember those days of us three causing chaos laughs - tho mostly two, i suppose) we would make our way into the fandom, make tons of things, meet some people, make things with those people and make friends, lose some people, and grow, grow, grow...
there's just been... so much in ten years. ten years guys !!! that's a lot !!! i was a proud senpai and kouhai all at once! i'd found a really cool sensei. i ran into artists who drew things for me and i wrote for them!
i watched the rise AND fall of void els (raise your hand if you're an oger), in real time watched vMM became a cultural phenomenon (you're lying to yourself if you dont think he was - ykb did something irreversible to the add fandom that day i fear 😂 he's still relevant to this day lmFAO thank ykb for ur service), i watched the top LP/bottom LP debates :/, i'd poked my head into the els tag to see yall fighting but then i'd see some cool things too! i've seen so many cool projects and zines -- hell, got to actually take part in one! (cringe as it was - our writing, not the zine but still proud of doing that !!!)
addcest/hellsword (tumblr) isn't what it use to be though. (hell tumblr itself isn't what it use to be, let's be real LMAO) but... i think that i love that hasn't stopped some of us for cherishing and/or still loving add to this day.
i think if you'd told past me i'd be doing this, writing for one (1) singular anime boy, i wouldn't be surprised - couldn't expect it to go any other way i think
i'm not sure how to feel that ten years later i am still writing for him - it's been quite obvious where i felt it wane (but that was more my life and mental health (was in quite few depressive episodes - still am lmao), and joy - or lack thereof at the times - of writing and placing my joy momentarily elsewhere) but... wow i'm still here? LMAO
but i've met so many amazing people because of him... i've made connections, some not quite lasting, but then... there's always someone else there isn't there?
(i met dez and rain-kouhai for the first time recently! i've met more people for add hell between now and maybe 2-3 years ago! can you imagine that??? people still interacting, still wanting to talk about add - i literally can't! i go on twitter kr/jp and go "wow new add fanart" and feel so lucky !!!)
it's just little joys like this that makes me appreciate such things
i guess what i'm trying to say... thank you add for all the connections i've had and made.
thank you to my original trio
thank you to addhell tumblr... ! (literally would have never known some of yall)
thank you to void els (for gay add marriage lmao but also some more cool friends and mutuals)
thanks discord for hosting gay add ramblings and ao3 for letting me put my gay shit there
thank you - to anyone and everyone who has ever read my work and supported me - friends, mutuals, strangers, anons - and to anyone who's drawn/wrote for or with me! (yes, i think about your comments, your kind words, your support! yes your comment, you!) 😭😭😭 it is the simple act of creating and sharing/encouraging that seriously drives me forward in every word i type... and this alone feels like it's not enough!
but mostly, thank you add, for everything, really
where da hell would this bnuuy be without you?
i was going to... add a more emotional spiel but i think this is good enough, don't nya'll think? :')
"i'm so glad you're still here even after all these past ten years"
you know what? i think i might just be too
thanks for the one whole decade everyone wahoo !!!
-
"they shared a bed together." - jacket, nov 29th 2014
#once again HAPPY TEN YEARS MY LORD!!#I really must say this: I was there#I was there when the chaotic trio wrote the stories that helped me deal with the struggles of my teenage years#I was there when your “fights” with your LP cheered me up on the days I felt numb#I still remember the hype I felt every time I saw a new post with your username as the author#I'm not kidding; the moment i get to see one of your post with the magic words of “Tittle” “Pairing” “Words” and “Summary” thats when i kne#I knew i was going to read another one of your fanfics and the joy i would feel after that I still keep it in my heart#I don't want to be cheesy and bore you with my past but up to this date I can say your writing has given me a happiness like no other#I can't even try to explain... I was a teenager who sat in the back of the class with a Nokia Lumina 520 hidden on her left pocket#that teenager after finishing early an assignment or during lunch would take her phone out carefully so the teachers wouldn't notice#and she would read again and again Psykerberserker's and Mymastermine's stories till the bell rang or till the teachers almost caught her#I would like to add that back then I didn't have browsing data so I had to read screenshots or PDFs with the “Copy - paste” version-#- of your writing. That phone wasn't an android or an IOS device so i couldn't use the Tumblr app or read your fics on a browser.#Sadly that phone d!ed but I'm sure if I could turn it on again it would still contain those screenshots and PDFs.#They were my treasure. My joy. And my happiness.#I could still talk more about my past but I thing that's enough. sorry if you had to search what is a Nokia Lumina 520 ^^;;#but I can't go without saying that the day when you post “Tedious Training” it was my father's birthday-#-we were celebrating in a restaurant and I get a chance to get the wifi pass. I was bored so I checked if you post anything and OHH MY GAAA#I wasn't expecting that and I couldn't just read the fic right there so as soon I got home I ran to turn on my laptop#I HAVE READ THAT FIC SO MANY TIMES AND EACH TIME ITS SUCH A THRILL TO READ IT. I LOVE IT I CAN GET ENOUGH#I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEEE YOUR WRITING!!!#I'm sorry if I sounded so normal/ chill / or calm. No I'm not normal about your writing I'M OBSESSED I LOVE IT.#“Jacket” was the first fic I read about your writing and that's when I fell in love with it.#“Distractions” is what made me realize I love the idea of LP having a tattoo and I'm so glad KOG gave tattoo/marks to DBr on his arms#to read “Psyker's Plan” every Christmas or new year during family gatherings saved me during these holidays#and have I talked about my obsession with “Tedious Training”? What kind of smartphones would AGSZC use? Apple or Android?
P.S. - Angeal totally strikes me as an old school flip phone kind of guy.
Angeal: Nokia brick If Shinra didn't provide updated models for all of them, Angeal would have never made the switch from flip phones to smartphones, and would still keep his old phone that was held together by duct tape, superglue, and electrocuted him every time he touched it, because "it works perfectly fine, and phones are for calling, so why buy a new one?"
Zack: latest iPhone Zack misses flip phones not because of the phone itself, but because of how efficient he used to be pre-apps and games. Unfortunately Angeal now has ammo against him.
Zack: OW! MY LEG HURTS!
Angeal: It's because of that damn phone.
Zack: I'M BLEEDING??
Angeal: That damn phone.
Zack: I THINK I BROKE IT!
Angeal: Because you spend too much time on your phone.
Cloud: Doesn't care about the type of phone he has as long as it makes calls and sends emails. He doesn’t get the fuss over the latest models and has no interest in smartphones.
Sephiroth: If he had a say in it, the man wouldn't even own a phone. He would communicate solely through letters and telegrams because that's how exhausted he is of being reachable 24/7. Sometimes he completely gets rid of his phone.
Genesis: I've been trying to reach you for three hours!
Sephiroth: Yes, I threw my phone away. It's healthy to take a break from technology once in a while, Genesis.
Genesis: Angeal is missing! What if he's been in danger and needed to call you??
Sephiroth: If the information is important enough, it will find its way to me.
*A dove flies up to Sephiroth and delivers a letter*
Genesis: !?
*Sephiroth reads it*
Sephiroth: Ah. What did I tell you?
Genesis: Is it Angeal??
Sephiroth: No. Zack has sent me a cat meme.
Genesis: Red iPhone As much as he loves the invention of the smartphone and being able to watch the soap operas (that he denies watching) on the go, he's a sucker for historical relics, and purchased a red rotary phone for his office. It rings at a volume that is a nuisance to the environment.
*Sephiroth walks into Genesis' office, where the phone won't stop ringing*
Sephiroth: Genesis, you need to get rid of that phone. I've been receiving complaints about it all day.
Genesis: Please, you're just jealous of my telephone.
Sephiroth: I promise you I'm not.
Genesis: Ha! I'll tell you what—whoever has a problem with me and my telephone can call me directly to complain about it.
Sephiroth: Understood.
*Sephiroth leaves*
*Three minutes later, the phone rings again and Genesis picks it up*
Genesis: Hello?
Sephiroth: IF YOU DON'T GET RID OF THAT THING, GENESIS, I WILL RETURN YOU TO THE GODDESS.
Genesis:

ok now I'm curious. if all the cullens turned into smartphones, which phones would they be? And bonus question, which phone would Eleazar turn into
...
You know I've received three asks on this? Only you included Eleazar, though.
Alice is the nebulous concept of an iPhone that hasn't come out yet. It doesn't matter how hip and with it everybody else tries to be, Alice's phone is newer.
Bella is an iPhone series 5 or later, which is to say she looks fragile and she is fragile. Drop her on a cushion and the entire screen shatters. Edward is constantly buying her screen protectors.
Carlisle is a Marconi wireless telegraph, a life-saving technology that no one would have thought possible if Marconi hadn't been mad and brilliant enough to do it. Carlisle, having saved human lives in unconvential ways since long before there were smartphones, can only be a Marconi wireless.
Edward is a Huawei. This makes him more indie and interesting than the Sony and Samsung android phones of the world, and the fact that the US has forbidden all Huawei from being purchased or used within country borders means that Edward can cry about being rejected by society. Because he's a monster.
Emmett is a phone booth, to account for his sheer size. The man is a hunk. Rosalie is into it, everybody else wonders how she's planning to lug this guy around.
Esme is a landline, because she stays in the home and is at the heart of the family.
Jasper is an android phone, because none of Alice's nebulous concept phones have a good camera, on account of them being iPhones. Jasper, therefore, is on the hook for photoshoots with Barbie Bella, events, and all such things. Additionally, he's pragmatic enough to want an android.
Renesmee is her voice, as her entire world consists of people who are always close by anyway. She has never needed a phone to get in touch.
Rosalie is a Nokia, because she strikes me as too pragmatic and stubborn to ever bend to the smartphone craze. They'll be out of fashion soon enough and when they are she will be able to say she never accepted any of the CandyCrush invites. As far as Rosalie is concerned, phones are for ringing.
Bonuss Eleazar:
He is the communal Denali phone where they have the phone numbers to the Cullens and a host of dating apps. That's it, that's all any of them will ever need.

last weekend with the birthday money i have, i have bought myself a nokia 2780 flip in navy blue.
i bought the last one on sale at target, for $79.99. i think still, it was a little too pricey, but it is factory unlocked, so ill give it that.
its small, cute, and a little flimsy.
cheap and cheerful like some people like to say.
i so excited that i unboxed it and put my verizon sim card in, on the ride home. it worked perfectly fine, and im really happy about that. ive been looking for a dumbphone for my digital minimalism needs, but i wasnt really too sure network compatibility wise.
Tumblr media
van gogh...
along side the nokia 2780, ive been using my old smartphone, a samsung galaxy a51 as a pseudo mp3 player.
what i did to this poor smartphone is kinda cool
install olauncher (light mode!)
universal adb debloater
remove apps i dont need anymore: contacts, phone, messages, etc
enable monochromacy screen settings
always on power saving mode
"sensors off" in developer settings
put a whole bunch of mp3s on it ... yo ho ho.. .arggh.. ahoy..
disable screen lock
wifi and bluetooth off, all the time.
koreader on f-droid (bless this app)
retro music on f-droid
and thats all!
simple little mp3 player that can read books too..
though, ive been wanting a real mp3 player or android dap, i think ill save up for that next, but for now, this will work fine.
lets see how long i keep this up... its quite fun for now.
thinking about it, i kinda want to live like hidamari sketch.. that lifestyle era of technology is just lovely.
see you next post! take care everyone - aoi, c. 2.11.25

Wish List For A Dumb Phone
I have a dumb phone with 20 days of standby time. It's getting old. I might need to buy another one soon.
I only really need that phone for phone stuff. It's small and light. It's my backup in places where my smartphone does not have reception.
A replacement would need physical buttons, and have bar or flip phone form factor, preferably in a blight green or orange colour. It should be a dual-SIM quad-band with GSM for basic phone calls, SMS and MMS, and 4G or 5G connectivity. The web browsing or download speed doesn't really matter.
In terms of featurephone features, I don't need twitter, facebook, whatsapp, or any of those built-in apps. I want the ability to take pictures, play MP3 and OGG files, record audio, play audio, browse the file system, and assign audio files as custom ringtones. E-mail is optional.
The hardware features I want are an SD card slot, a 240p camera or better, a light, FM radio (DAB would be a plus), a replaceable battery, bluetooth for tethering and audio headsets, and USB-C for tethering, charging, and file transfer. It doesn't have to be USB-PD or USB 3.0.
There are some features that would be nice. It would be nice to have a playlist that I can sync with a desktop podcatcher application. It would be nice to be able to move contacts between the SIM card and the SD card in bulk, and to sync contacts with my NextCloud address book with a desktop application. It would be nice if I could mount my phone's file system via USB.
All these features boil down to this: My dumb phone is a bit beat up. I wish I could just replace it with a slightly newer model with USB-C, but otherwise it doesn't need apps or wlan.
There is no phone out there that is just slightly better than my old dumb phone, and can be charged via USB. Once you have all the hardware and features, you might as well slap Android on there, and a more powerful processor, and sell it on features.
It's sad. There are many dumb phones that are almost better than my old one. There is one that is just like my old one, but with 4G instead of 3G, but no USB-C. There is one that looks great, but all reviews say the software is buggy and bluetooth doesn't work reliably. There is one with loads of features that has a couple of days of standby time, not weeks.
There's also one that has all the features but costs more than a smartphone.
All I really want is a Nokia 215 with USB-C, tethering, and a comfortable way to sync my stuff to a PC.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
So Friday morning my phone shit itself. I'd been considering moving to a dumb phone but wasn't really expecting to have to make a decision quite so quickly, but here we are. Since I'm still chronically online though, I've made this blog to document my experiences and see how I go and how long I hold out before I cave and just get another smartphone I guess.
I've just been becoming more and more tired of finding myself scrolling mindlessly down apps I don't care about, that are feeding me content I don't want to see, and more adverts than posts by people I care about. I've become tired of constant software updates, planned obsolescence, and my battery running flat by 3pm every day. And now the introduction of AI generated content. If no one can be bothered to create it why would I bother to look at it, y'know?
So yesterday I went and bought this beauty. She's a Nokia 325 4G in "Future Dusk" (that's dark purple) and she cost $89.
This was the most up-spec phone I could find that didn't run android (or ios). She has a 2mp camera! I'm thrilled with how grainy and creepy the photos look, but i am going to need to get a proper camera, which is not a bad thing. I've been sussing out some options and I think I've found a cool Canon compact on Marketplace.
I've gotta tell you though, this feels like it has less personalisation options than my old 3315. It probably doesn't though. although what ever happened to a little hook on the corner so i could attach a wrist strap or a little flashing hello kitty charm or whatever? rude.
The predictive text feels very clunky, there doesn't appear to be a way to save custom words in the dictionary, which i definitely feel like the old T9 did. There's no emojis so we're back to texting ascii art, which is fun tbh.
Ring tones are limited but you can set MP3's as ring tones so that's fine. The standard text tone I've set is actually very cute, it sounds very magical, and receiving text messages is suddenly very exciting. especially since I've become so used to messenger.
Oh wait! I've just figured out how to add words. Great. So like, even as someone who's used this kind of tech before, there's still a little bit of a learning curve as I reacquaint myself with it.
There's no way to move menu options around to suit my preference as far as I can tell but there aren't that many of them so it's not that much of an issue.
The big challenge I'm facing is how to listen to audiobooks. I've become rather reliant on listening to audiobooks in order to get tedious tasks done. It's honestly something I dreamed about as a kid and audible basically saved my life, I'm not even exaggerating (much). This little phone can play mp3s, and there are ways to convert audible files to mp3 but having a 30 hour long mp3 with no way to skip back and forth on the track is not especially useful, and there's also no way that i've found so far to change the play speed.
There are MP3 players capable of running audible, but that also means they're capable of running all the other apps that I don't want to be able to have access to. I don't feel that I'm addicted to my phone precisely but I also don't have a lot of self control as regards the bad habit I've developed of reaching for my phone any time my hands are not otherwise engaged. If anyone out there knows of some ways around that please let me know!
Anyway
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Please appreciate these grainy-ass photos I took with the phone's camera of my dog Tillie, and some Daffodils growing in my garden.

Knock knock, KaiOS.
The ephemeral taste of innovating nearly obsolete bricks might be reaching its inevitable demise.
Tumblr media

Despite the recent boom of feature phone sales over digital minimalism and dopamine detox trends, the future for KaiOS remains bleak as they fail to be consistent with their promises, thus miserably lagging against established giants in the market.
The good start
KaiOS is a partially open-source operating system developed by the Hong Kong-based company, KaiOS Technologies Inc. It was initially released in October 2017 and was forked from Boot 2 Gecko. Their name is from the Chinese for open – ćŒ€ (kāi) which “captures the idea of being inclusive.”
In just one year, they have overtaken Apple’s iOS as the second most popular operating system in India, with Android remaining on top, despite losing their 9% market share. In that same timeframe as well, they managed to sell around 450 million devices worldwide. Furthermore, their platform is compatible to WhatsApp, Twitter, YouTube, Google Maps, and Google Assistant.
To oversimplify things, KaiOS took the Boot 2 Gecko code (based from FirefoxOS) and modified it to run on hardware similar to that of feature phones and added the KaiOS Store. Other than that, they also implemented recent innovations that are becoming today’s standard, like 4G LTE and 5G, GPS, and Wi-Fi. By doing so, they effectively just created a separate phone segment, which some people call as the quasi-smartphones or smart feature phones.
KaiOS specifically chose the hardware present in their devices for an appealing approach to developing markets, like India and Pakistan, to bridge the digital divide and bring cheaper internet access. They removed the touch screen which they consider as the most costly part of the device, and replaced it with a cheaper T9 keypad input. Additionally, their devices only need 256MB to work and are also compatible with cost-efficient Spreadtrum chipsets.
What went wrong
By doing so, they effectively avoided the mistakes that Mozilla made. They chose a target audience first and offered them a product. They made an operating system out of the web but used that as a tool rather than the end goal, the latter being their approach to the digital divide. But not all products are perfect on their own, as their approach is a double-edged sword.
The T9 keypad meant that the apps had to be optimized to work on such inputs. Likewise, dissimilar to FirefoxOS, not all webpages can run on KaiOS devices due to hardware restraints. Such disadvantages make it an appealing short-term solution while their users save up for better entry-level Android devices.
Platform immaturity
The platform is still quite immature, despite five years since its initial launch. Some users claimed that their devices sometimes cannot receive calls, and crashes on related functions constantly. The battery also does not live up to its expectations and provides a ‘disappointing’ performance. Additionally, the calendar’s sync and date functionality is unstable, the alarm clock doesn’t ring from time to time, and the lack of note-taking, file browsing, multitasking, and wide audio format support. Besides, the platform lacked proper app quality control, bug reports, and feedback system, along with a slew of advertisements. Perhaps, the most lambasted functionality of the platform is the T9 input. Users characterized the input as slow and unreliable, thus ineffective for efficient user interface navigation. The predictive text input, which might sound good, is something they’d rather have disabled due to its restraints such as inaccurate suggestions and buggy input.
Some have mentioned that users may be over-estimating KaiOS and pitching it against smartphone platforms. Then on, we can’t deny that a platform still has to be stable and reliable, albeit hardware-restricted. Some went on to compare the system to its older counterparts such as Nokia’s Series 40, Microsoft’s Lumia, Vodafone’s MobiWire, and Blackberry’s Blackberry 10, which the users characterized as more ‘stable.’
Unfortunately, version 2.5.4 onwards faced a downward trend as certain apps were no longer maintained and supported, due to the decrease of development activity. For instance, the optimized Google and YouTube apps have been pulled out from the app store, around the same time as the update. In version 3, WhatsApp support has already been dropped and new app submissions to the store also plummeted. Google Assistant, the primary tool for users to voice type and issue commands (albeit stripped-down in comparison to Android), also dropped KaiOS support last June 30, 2021. Some users reached out to the company regarding this matter, to which they replied that they are developing an in-house voice assistant alternative. Until now, it is nowhere near worldwide coverage, given the limited devices it was shipped upon.
The company and its partners
Even more worse, the problem rests beyond that. The project development of has been consistent enough until the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the company’s blog statement “the growth was still not like how we achieved in the pre-COVID times, but these numbers and new partnerships are going up and in the right direction in this second year of the pandemic.”
In 2022, the project updates has since then plummeted. There weren’t any major announcements across all their social media platforms, even from the company website. Their Github repositories are no exception as well, as they still haven’t received any commits until now. Their only active repo is the gecko-b2g, which serves as the operating system base.
It is not implicit that their users are complaining about the bugs and speculating on the project’s downfall but it seems that they have no proper public relations and customer support as the company fails to actively respond to these messages.
Nokia
Nokia, or should we say, HMD Global has been a primary partner of KaiOS Technologies over the years. They manufactured the higher-end devices of the platform that were considerably the most popular in KaiOS’ lineup, such as the Nokia 6300 4G, Nokia 2780 Flip, and the Nokia 8110 4G.
Regardless, their approach is somehow vague as enthusiasts are confused over what their target audience is supposed to be, and what were they trying in the first place. Their approach started with the reboot of their classic devices, so it’s safe to assume that their target consumers are the ones who are nostalgic over their retro bricks. HMD, for a matter of fact, might have just been the worst example of a KaiOS partner.
Their devices are the most expensive ones of the platform, almost close to the entry-level Android Go smartphones. HMD Global has also been long criticized over the failure to deliver software updates from KaiOS to their devices, as they provide only about a year of support for these. The users also cannot help to complain over the significant bloatware present in such a limited hardware they provide.
Just recently, HMD Global took a step back from this approach and cherished their barebones Series 30 and Series 30+ platforms once again. Their last KaiOS device is the 2780 Flip from November 2022 and was then on followed by a series of Android Go and dumbphones from their C and 1xx series. In a reply to a user inquiry, they reportedly blamed KaiOS as the Google Assistant support for the platform was dropped.
Alcatel and TCL
Alcatel and TCL are also major partners of KaiOS. In fact, TCL Corporation is the largest shareholder of KaiOS Technologies. Both of them are popular for their Go Flip line. Despite the successes of Go Flip 1, 2, 3, and V, they didn’t get to experience the luxury of getting updated to the latest version of the OS, unlike the Go Flip 4. A user reached out to the company, to which they replied that they are still planning to serve these said updates to such devices, although there is still no update to talk of until now.
Unfortunately, similar to HMD Global, they seem to be diverging away from the platform as recent releases from both manufacturers are focused on midrange to high-end Android devices, as well as the Tab series of TCL.
Jio
The Indian telecommunications company, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited is the catalyst of KaiOS’ takeover against Apple in the country, all thanks to their aggressive marketing approach. They offered the competitively priced JioPhone for free to their users who are subscribed to their data plans.
Unluckily, even Jio is also straying away from KaiOS. There have been rumors that the JioPhone and the JioPhone 2 have been discontinued, as they are no longer sold. They last received the version 0258 update back on May 22, 2021, and clearly missed version 3.0 by a long shot. On June 24, 2021, Reliance Jio announced the JioPhone Next, a budget Android Go smartphone made in collaboration with Google. Recently this year, they partnered with Karbonn to release the Jio Bharat K1 Karbonn and V2 to provide access to UPI payments, Jio ecosystem, and cheaper 4G to the rural areas of India that remain untapped by recent advancements in technology.
What happened?
Fast forward to August 2023, users speculate that the project has already died out due to lack of activity and stagnation since the release of 3.0. Their company's social media platforms are inactive, except for the usual, seemingly AI-generated content every national holiday across countries. On the other hand, KaiOS Technologies partnered with the cybersecurity firm Trustonic to expand their device affordability efforts in Africa. There have also been infrequent new device releases for the platform, such as the AT&T Cingular Flex in February, Cricket Debut Flex in June, and Logan Technology’s Panita this August. Truth be told, I find this section rather short and lacking. Unfortunately, I could say the same for the company’s recent efforts. Nonetheless, I hope that things eventually get better. As users worldwide expected a reliable feature phone platform, all these issues contributed to a downward trend of interest for KaiOS. It seems that they might end up like FirefoxOS, failing to keep up and desolate in the past. Whether they wake up to innovate again, or continue dormant and inevitably die out is up for them to decide.
For now, one thing’s for sure, if they fail to address these issues, they’ll be no better than the obsolete bricks of the bygone era.

Modern smartphones are a convergence of cutting-edge technologies, combining powerful hardware with intelligent software to deliver exceptional user experiences. Whether you're a casual user, a gamer, a content creator, or a professional, today’s smartphones offer features that cater to virtually every need. As innovation continues, we can expect even more futuristic capabilities, such as fully foldable screens, deeper AI integration, and expanded satellite connectivity—further reinforcing the smartphone’s role as the central device in our digital lives.
. Originally designed to make voice calls while on the move, mobile phones have evolved into powerful smart devices that now play a major role in our everyday lives.
Modern mobile phones, often referred to as smartphones, are equipped with advanced features such as high-resolution cameras, internet access, touchscreen displays, and thousands of apps that serve every purpose—from education and communication to entertainment and health tracking.
People can call, text, video chat, and access social media platforms anytime, anywhere. This constant connection helps families stay in touch, allows employees to work remotely, and enables students to learn online.
Mobile phones also serve as mini computers. Users can browse the internet, send emails, attend virtual meetings, and even manage bank accounts or businesses from their phones. While mobile phones bring many benefits, it's also important to use them responsibly. Overuse can lead to health issues like eye strain or lack of sleep, and exposure to harmful content can affect young users. Practicing healthy digital habits ensures that mobile phones remain helpful tools instead of distractions.
In short, mobile phones have become essential devices that support communication, productivity, education, and entertainment. As technology advances, they will continue to shape how we live, work, and connect with the world around us.The societal impact of mobile phones is both broad and deep. In the business world, mobile phones have enabled remote work, transformed marketing strategies through mobile advertising, and allowed small businesses to reach global markets. They have played a key role in economic development, particularly in regions where traditional infrastructure is lacking.
Culturally, mobile phones have changed how we consume media, communicate, and express ourselves. Social media platforms accessed via phones have given rise to new forms of art, activism, and social movements. They have also influenced language, with emojis, memes, and abbreviations becoming part of everyday communication.
Their development has brought immense benefits, revolutionizing communication, enhancing convenience, and enabling global connectivity. However, they also pose significant challenges that society must address—ranging from health and safety issues to privacy and environmental concerns.
As we move forward, it is essential to find a balance between leveraging the advantages of mobile phones and mitigating their negative effects. With responsible use and thoughtful innovation, mobile phones will continue to be powerful tools that enrich our lives and shape our future. The first mobile phones in the 1980s were large, heavy, and expensive. They could only make calls and had very limited battery life. Devices like the BlackBerry and early Nokia models allowed users to check email and browse limited websites. Then, in 2007, Apple launched the iPhone, revolutionizing the industry by introducing a sleek, touchscreen interface and app-based ecosystem. Android quickly followed, and the smartphone era truly began.
Key Features of Modern Smartphones
Smartphones have transformed from simple communication tools into powerful pocket-sized computers that shape how we live, work, and interact with the world. As technology continues to evolve rapidly, modern smartphones are equipped with an impressive range of features that enhance convenience, connectivity, entertainment, and productivity. Below is a detailed look at the key features that define today’s smartphones.
1. High-Resolution Touchscreen Displays
Modern smartphones use capacitive touchscreens, often with technologies like OLED, AMOLED, Super AMOLED, or Retina displays. Resolutions range from Full HD (1080p) to Quad HD (1440p), and even 4K on some premium models. Screen sizes typically vary between 5.5 to 6.9 inches, though foldable phones can extend to tablet-like sizes. Many smartphones now feature nearly bezel-less designs with punch-hole or under-display cameras, offering a sleek, immersive viewing experience.
2. Advanced Camera Systems
One of the most competitive areas in smartphone design is the camera. Modern smartphones come equipped with multiple camera lenses, including wide-angle, ultra-wide, telephoto, macro, and depth sensors.
High-resolution sensors (ranging from 48 MP to over 200 MP) allow for crystal-clear photography. Features such as Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Night Mode, AI scene recognition, and 4K or 8K video recording have become standard. Front-facing cameras now support features like facial beautification, slow-motion capture, and 3D facial recognition.
3. Powerful Processors and Performance
Smartphones are powered by highly advanced chipsets that combine CPUs, GPUs, and neural engines. Leading processors include Apple’s A-series chips (like the A17 Pro), Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen series, and Google’s Tensor chips.
These processors allow smartphones to handle heavy multitasking, graphic-intensive gaming, real-time photo and video processing, and AI functions. With 8GB to 16GB of RAM in flagship models, smartphones can rival some laptops in terms of performance.
4. 5G and Connectivity
5G networks offer significantly faster download and upload speeds, lower latency, and more reliable connections, especially in crowded areas. This enables seamless streaming, cloud gaming, AR/VR experiences, and real-time video communication.
Besides 5G, smartphones support Wi-Fi 6/6E, Bluetooth 5.0 or later, GPS, NFC for contactless payments, and USB-C or Lightning ports for charging and data transfer.
5. Long Battery Life and Fast Charging
Battery life is a key concern for users. Most smartphones today come with batteries ranging from 4,000mAh to 5,500mAh. Advances in power efficiency allow phones to last a full day on a single charge, even with heavy usage.
Fast charging technologies—ranging from 25W to 120W—allow users to recharge their devices in minutes

The Return of Legend: Exploring the Nokia 7610 Mini
Bundle deals Free shipping on 3+ items "Click to Buy"
In the fast-paced world of smartphones, where every year brings a new set of devices with higher specs and sleeker designs, there's something nostalgic about classic phone models. One such iconic device is the Nokia 7610, a phone that once stood at the cutting edge of style and technology. Today, Nokia seeks to rekindle that old flame by introducing the Nokia 7610 Mini—a modern reinterpretation of the beloved classic, infused with 5G technology and contemporary features.
This article dives deep into the design, features, performance, and potential impact of the Nokia 7610 Mini, a phone that bridges the past and the future.
A Tribute to a Classic Design
The original Nokia 7610, released in 2004, was known for its striking, asymmetrical design and multimedia capabilities. The Nokia 7610 Mini pays homage to this legacy while modernizing the look and feel to suit 2025 consumers.
The phone features a compact form factor, staying true to its “Mini” name. With a 6.1-inch AMOLED display, the device strikes a balance between nostalgia and usability. The outer shell has a sleek metallic finish, with curves reminiscent of early 2000s Nokia phones. The iconic teardrop camera housing makes a comeback, reimagined with a contemporary aesthetic.
Display and Visuals
The display on the Nokia 7610 Mini is a vibrant AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution. This makes it perfect for media consumption, browsing, and social media. The bezels are thin, and the phone features a punch-hole front camera, ensuring maximum screen-to-body ratio.
Although it does not boast a 120Hz refresh rate like many modern flagships, the 90Hz panel is smooth and energy efficient—ideal for users who want a responsive experience without draining the battery.
Performance Under the Hood
Despite its retro-inspired exterior, the Nokia 7610 Mini is a thoroughly modern machine internally. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 chipset—a capable processor that delivers excellent mid-range performance. This ensures that the phone can handle everyday tasks like messaging, video streaming, and multitasking with ease.
The phone is available in 8GB and 12GB RAM variants, with storage options of 128GB and 256GB. It also features expandable memory via microSD, a rarity in many smartphones today, offering users more flexibility.
Camera Capabilities
Photography has become a central feature in modern smartphones, and the Nokia 7610 Mini doesn’t disappoint. It comes equipped with a dual-camera setup:
Main sensor: 64MP, f/1.8 aperture
Ultra-wide sensor: 12MP
On the front, there is a 32MP selfie camera that supports facial recognition, beauty filters, and HDR capabilities. The rear cameras are capable of 4K video recording and include features such as AI scene detection, night mode, and optical image stabilization (OIS).
While not aimed at professional photographers, the camera system delivers solid results for casual users and social media creators.
Battery Life and Charging
Battery life is one of the standout features of the Nokia 7610 Mini. It houses a 5000mAh battery, which is more than sufficient for a full day of moderate to heavy usage. Thanks to Nokia’s efficient software optimization, the phone can last up to two days under light use.
The device supports 33W fast charging via USB-C. Although not the fastest on the market, it provides a 50% charge in under 30 minutes, which is respectable for a phone in its class.
Software Experience
The Nokia 7610 Mini runs on Android 14, with a clean, near-stock interface. Nokia has always taken pride in offering bloat-free Android experiences, and this phone continues that tradition.
You’ll get minimal pre-installed apps, regular security updates, and a promise of at least two major Android version upgrades. This makes it an excellent choice for users who value simplicity, privacy, and long-term usability.
Connectivity and Other Features
Being a modern phone, the Nokia 7610 Mini is equipped with the latest connectivity standards:
5G support for high-speed internet
Wi-Fi 6
Bluetooth 5.2
GPS with dual-band A-GPS
NFC for contactless payments
There’s also a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and face unlock feature for added security. Another highlight is the inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack—a feature that's becoming increasingly rare in today's smartphones.
Sustainability and Build Quality
Nokia, now operated under HMD Global, has made efforts to incorporate sustainable materials in its devices. The 7610 Mini is built with a recycled aluminum frame and comes in eco-friendly packaging.
The phone also boasts an IP54 rating, meaning it's resistant to dust and splashes, although not fully waterproof. This level of durability makes it suitable for everyday use in various conditions.
Price and Availability
While exact global release dates may vary, the Nokia 7610 Mini is expected to hit key markets by Q3 of 2025. It is positioned as a mid-range device, with an estimated starting price of $249. This makes it a compelling option for users looking for a reliable, stylish, and nostalgic smartphone without breaking the bank.
Color options are expected to include Classic Black, Pearl White, and a retro Red-Black combo that mimics the original 7610.
Who Is It For?
The Nokia 7610 Mini caters to:
Nostalgic users who owned or admired the original 7610
Young consumers seeking a budget-friendly, stylish 5G phone
Minimalists who prefer clean software and good battery life
Secondary phone buyers looking for something unique
It’s not intended to compete directly with flagship devices from Apple or Samsung but rather to carve its own niche in a market that increasingly values both innovation and heritage.
Final Thoughts
The Nokia 7610 Mini is a rare blend of retro charm and modern efficiency. It doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel but instead builds on a beloved legacy to offer something new, unique, and practical. With solid specs, a nostalgic design, and competitive pricing, it’s a worthy contender in the mid-range market.
For users looking to stand out from the crowd with a phone that tells a story while delivering reliable performance, the Nokia 7610 Mini might just be the perfect pick.

A Revolução do Smartphone: De 2000 a 2010
Realidade Aumentada e Realidade Virtual

Living with feature phone in the smartphone era
Hello! In this post I would like to tell you about my Nokia 3210 4G as my daily driver and reducing social media.
This is not a rant. Everyone can use a device which suits you the most. I was always a Nokia fanboy, I had different Nokia models through years, I used also Nokia Lumia 520 with Windows Phone 8.1 (which I feel like is the best smartphone os to this day) and smartphones with android.
Nokia 3210 4G came out in 2024 as a new version of Nokia 3210 from 90s. There are 2 version, both with S30+ platforms, but in Asian market, there is also avaible models with Cloud phone platforms, which allows you to use Social media, Youtube, Youtube Shorts, Youtube Music, Accuweather and many different apps. I have the European version in Black color.
As HMD, the maker of Nokia phones states on their boxes on new Nokias: "If itÂŽs important, theyÂŽll call or text." and I agree with them.
SMS, MMS (yes I still like to use them), Calling with Volte Support, Radio, MP3 Player, Camera, Compact Opera Mini Browser and many more features makes my Nokia 3210 4G my most favorite feature phone.
There is one major thing I donÂŽt like on social media these days. They push products to your timeline. Back in the day, when I started using Instagram, around 2013, it was meant for photo sharing and comments (no DMs, no reels). Your timeline was updated in order that people who you follow posted.
I noticed that I felt often overwhelmed and anxious by social media and I knew itÂŽs time to make the change.
Now I try to move my social media visiting mainly on my notebook, which I will check in few minutes and I wonÂŽt stay in scrolling loop. I decided to try Tumblr again, make blogs about my favorite artists, Formula 1, feature phones, radios and many other topic.
