reborn au but it's minato & kushina trying to have friends in their 30s

so i do like the headcanon that mikoto and kushina are close friends. we know they were canonically at least FRIENDLY and so in reborn AU kushina went to mikoto a bunch with baby questions after naruto's birth and they went from "friendly" to "close friends." their sons are the same age, so there's a ton of playdates.

i feel like the natural outcome would be "couple friends" but. but but but. i can't see fugaku getting on very well with kushina OR minato? like there's no active dislike. there's just no.... platonic chemistry.......

they do hang out as couple/families sometimes, but what effectively keeps happening is kushina will run off with mikoto and then minato and fugaku just have THE most stilted and awkward conversations. minato doesn't mind him around in group conversations but the moment it's one-on-one and it's not, like, a professional conversation about the police force then minato is just going "aaaaaah!!!" internally. fugaku's advice on fatherhood sounds... mediocre? minato didn't have parents, but he's pretty sure it's not that good. they have no shared interests. their most interesting conversation was on AC unit repair.

at some point minato realizes he literally prefers talking to itachi (who is a child and also notoriously bad at cpmversation) and he's like. oh no. oh fuck because fugaku is his only adult friend*

*kakashi and jiraiya are both adults but their student/teacher relationship to him means they don't count. i think minato would count his genin teammates as friends but canon didn't even give us a name for one of them so for reborn au, i'm killing them off.

and also! he can't even make new friends!! because he's hokage and that makes him EVERYONE'S boss!!!!

rasa comes for the chunin exams and minato is like. a little bit desperate for socialization. their sons are the same age! their both kage! oh, you-- assassins, you say? and then kushina loses her mind and then rasa gets unseated. NOT good friendship real estate

About Fugaku and Minato...

Look, I can get the thought pattern behind calling Fugaku an abusive father. Admittingly, he was not the best father (personally, I wouldn't call him abusive, he was more distant, demanding and awkward than anything, so putting him in the same bag as the likes of Hiashi and Rasa just doesn't sit well with me). However, I always laugh up my sleeve a bit when I see the very same people who portray him as evil and abusive staning or even wanking Minato, calling him a perfect father and singing his praises just because he's handsome and outwardly charming/friendly. Like, the irony of it.

Minato, the "best father of the year material" who literally turned his baby son into a WMD to ensure the village's military strength. Thus causing Naruto to be ostracized and hated by Konoha villagers until he saved their stupid, ungrateful asses. Also, the fact that Naruto's first reaction upon meeting Minato was to punch him in the guts only proves further my point lol xD

Compare this to Fugaku who, while not a flawless parent, was willing to let himself get killed by his own son because he didn't want to fight (and possibly kill) him, and even had a few nice words for him. The son who sided with their clan’s oppressors. And the last thing he did before dying was literally asking Itachi to protect Sasuke.

Don't get me wrong, I don't even fundamentally dislike Minato (altho IMO he's a bit of a gary-stu...)... But this level of cognitive dissonance/double standard/whatever you want to call it is just beyond me.

🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

In the beginning, it was just a flash of inspiration to develop a person who collects scars on their heart and therefore regularly suffers heart attacks. Those were the only two key points that I carried around with me as a memo on my mobile phone. So they were the first things I decided about him - at that point he had no appearance, no name, no history, no character. It took me weeks to finally get anywhere with it - with the idea of alchemy. And here, of course, I can't deny that my memories of "Fullmetal Alchemist" certainly played a role.

🎭 MASKS - do they act differently around certain people? what's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.?

Due to his very friendly and open nature, Casper is initially open to everyone. This means that even strangers are always treated kindly by him, as long as he has no reason to do otherwise. Of course, there are exceptions when Casper finds himself in an unusual situation or loses control of his emotions - for whatever reason. Everyone has a bad day sometimes. He is naturally much more relaxed with friends or with his parents. However, this also means that his tics and idiosyncrasies are more apparent in a familiar environment. And in this environment, it can also happen that there are sometimes differences of opinion and Casper doesn't always react in a polite and friendly manner. But it is more out of a feeling that he can express his opinion to the people close to him and that arguments are completely natural.

Tabula Rasa. A normal last life. A life in which he knows nothing of what came before and which really ends with the last heartbeat. A life in which he can pursue his own personal interests and dreams. One that he can really live.

Friendly ke Lawan Jenis

Konteks bermuamalah itu emang perlu hati-hati sih, jangan terburu menghakimi, atau mengeneralisasi satu hal, sebab bisa jadi hal yang kita nilai salah, karena hanya memandang atau mendapatkan informasi dari dzahirnya saja, bisa jadi justru kita yang salah, sebab mungkin seseorang sudah mendasari niatan atau memang bener-bener ada keperluan syar'i.

Atau sebaliknya, sebenernya sudah jelas hitam dan putih, bisa 'disulap' menjadi abu-abu atau bertolakbelakang dari bagaimana seharusnya, karena ngikuti ego, yang padahal dari kesucian hati berkata jangan.

Kalau dalam sudut pandang kita yang melakukan misal, di poin ini kita butuh batasan dan patokan dalam bermuamalah, ya poinnya tetap dikembalikan ke bagaimana syariat mengatur dalam konteks bermuamalah. Sudah banyak para fuqaha' yang mengeluarkan fatwa-fatwa tentang hal-hal ini. Bisa dicari-cari sendiri nanti.

Intinya tidak bisa hanya ikuti ego atau nafsu diri, atau mencari dalih sana sini agar satu hal yang aslinya nggak bener, dicari-cari biar pokoknya "terlihat" bener.

Friendly dalam hal ini seperti apa dulu, kalau dalam artian baik emang tabiat ybs, nggak mandang unsur gender, 'mungkin' fine-fine aja, karena emang karakternya kayak gitu.

Cuman yang juga harus diingat bahwa dalam prinsip bermuamalah kan ada aksi-reaksi. Artinya tidak bisa kita hanya mementingkan diri sendiri, sebab aksi yang kita lakukan sebenernya tanpa ada niatan lain dan kita rasa udah paling biasa banget sejagad raya, selain bener-bener ada kepentingan, bisa bereaksi, atau ditangkap beda, terutama dari lawan jenis. Maka kalau dirasa sudah muncul hal-hal aneh, kurangi, atau tinggalkan.

Makanya kalau guru saya ngajari kalau chat lawan jenis, cukup seperlunya aja, jangan gunakan bahasa-bahasa bersayap, yang punya banyak arti, dan bikin salah tangkap.

golden dragon’s prelude

BEFORE WE BEGIN:

So uh, before we start:

This piece will be one of the biggest things I will reveal regarding Yuu (Rei)’s involvement to the plot that will make her completely diverge from the position of canon MC.

I actually wanted to post it first after finishing chapter 13 but now my focus of fic has diverted to my Persona 5 Royal fic “tabula rasa”, and with Twisted Wonderland main story not being quite finished yet, I decided to hold off a bit before deciding whether or not I want to finish “black or white” on the first main arc in Night Raven College of the game or continue on.

Though personally, I may just conclude it on the first overarching arc after Diasomnia and whatever we had with OB Grim in the future, and make it fully canon divergent after OB Grim is dealt with.

So with that in mind, I decided to reveal this ahead to set up what else will diverge from Twisted Wonderland canon in “black or white”.

Also there’s going to be a bunch of new original characters introduced but I will make a post about who are the newly introduced OC’s soon.

This contains ideas to how Pomefiore concluded and play into how Ignihyde and Diasomnia will run.

Without further ado, here we go!

She couldn’t hear whatever it was that happened under the stage once the results of the vote announced it as a tie.

Vil-san seemed upset at what Rook-senpai had said.

Neige also seemed to be visited by a fellow RSA student about the results.

Then there was an announcement from Neige via the microphone. “Can the Directing student Yuu Shiina come down to the stage?”

She was suspicious to where this goes down, but nonetheless, complied and went towards the stage.

Rather than take the stairs, she quietly chanted the runes at her shoes, the runes glowed and she jumped, her jumps gave the illusion that she was touching on an invisible platform as she reached the stage down at the colosseum, accompanied by Shiro on her shoulder and Grim at her free shoulder.

She landed on the ground next to the NRC group with ease, both Grim and Shiro jumping down from her shoulder as soon as she landed and she soon gazed over to Neige Le Blanche, and the student next to him, accompanied by a blue-green snake wrapped around-

Wait, that’s-

“Yaolan?” She called for said student.

Yaolan greeted her with a wave once he heard her.

Yaolan had been a regular that Yuu got acquainted with when she started taking a part-time job at cafe La Salvia down town.

She knew that he studied in Royal Sword Academy as a foreign exchange student in his second year and they had been friendly with each other as fellow foreigners in a strange land over the months they got acquainted.

But now, she felt a strong aura emitting out of him.

She didn’t notice it before, but now that she had made her pact with Shiro official, she can sense the irregular aura emanating out from the snake.

The aura is the same aura she felt with Shiro now that they officiated their pact together.

For a moment, she felt apprehensive about what this would be about.

She absentmindedly placed her left hand on her upper right arm, where the magical tattoo that formed as a sign of her officiated pact with Shiro lay concealed underneath her cardigan sweater and blouse.

She sincerely hoped it wasn’t about what transpired earlier before the competition.

She already had Leona-san on her case.

“For a brief moment, there was this air surrounding the whole area that kept us all frozen until it’s gone in an instant.” The Savanaclaw dorm head started once he got a hold of her during the break.

“Omnivore, what did you do?”

She kept mum.

She sent Grim off to Ace and Deuce’s way, not wanting him to get involved in whatever mess would come out of confronting Vil-san of what he plans to do to Neige at the time. (Grim ended up being involved anyway)

So instead, she answered. “You can ask Vil-senpai in private later.”

...Leona-san aside, there’s Malleus.

“For a brief moment, there was a stillness in the air.” The Diasomnia dorm leader spoke shortly before he left, his voice a whisper.

“Do you know what caused it, child of man?” He questioned.

Behind Malleus, she can see Kalim-san looking worried, but otherwise quiet.

“I’m not sure about that.” Was her reply.

The truth is this, Shiro is actually a powerful mythical creature in disguise.

Specifically, Shiro is the White Tiger of the West, one of the Four Cardinal gods.

She’s aware of the legend back home, but she doesn’t know if the same applies in this new world as well.

While their existence was covered in history class at one point, she didn’t pay too much attention at how involved they actually were in the world of Twisted Wonderland beyond the fact that they exist.

So really, color her surprised when Shiro, whom she believed to just be a magical cat familiar, shifts to a gigantic white tiger, protecting her, Kalim-san and Rook-san from being poisoned by an overblotted Vil in the halls of the Colosseum before they escaped with Jamil-san.

So the legends exist and are real in this world.

At any rate, Shiro deemed the situation with Vil-san’s overblot as dire enough to break out of his disguise and to protect them but he eventually returned to his disguise once Ace, Deuce, Epel and Grim arrived at the area.

Kalim-san, Jamil-san and Rook-san are also the only ones who bear witness to the pact they made while Vil-san initially assumed that seeing the White Tiger is just an exhaustion induced fever dream.

So really, those three are the only ones to know about Shiro’s true identity.

Though, the fact that Yaolan is enveloped in a powerful aura and accompanied by the blue-green snake on his neck...

He must have been a master of one of the Four Cardinal gods of Twisted Wonderland.

Going by the fact that Yaolan has Fengyue, the snake, with him, he must have been the master of Seiryuu, the Blue Dragon. Potentially.

“Yo, Yuu.” Yaolan started.

“Wait, potato, you know him?” Vil-san voiced.

“He’s a regular at the cafe I worked part time at.” Yuu simply answered, which was followed by Ace, Deuce, and Epel squawking out “What!?”.

Yuu, accompanied by Shiro, walked towards him. “What are you doing here?”

He crossed his arms and lifted a hand, scratching his cheek in a look of sheepishness. “I admit it’s selfish of me to vote for NRC and calling you out here but… this is an inevitable encounter and meeting.”

He paused, the smile now had a mischievous glint. “As fellow masters of the Cardinal Beasts.”

A powerful pressure filled the air, enough that it got most of the people in the vicinity on their knees.

Beside her, Grim squawked at the power and fell down to the ground while Shiro jumped from her shoulder and gracefully landed.

They’re both the only ones, outside of Yaolan and the potential Blue Dragon in disguise in front of her, who can stand firm.

All is deaf to her, she can only hear Shiro growl, and the snake slithers into their owner’s arm, hissing in return.

Furrowing her eyebrows, she scrutinizes the student in front of her.

“What do you want from this?”

Yaolan raised their arms, posing to look like he surrendered. “Hey now, I’m not here to make an enemy out of a fellow master.”

“You could just do this privately rather than to make a show by voting your rival.”

Yaolan let out a chuckle. “You really don’t know it, do you?”

“Know what?”

At her question, he started to explain. “It’s strange, you know? Every single person who had become the master chosen by the Cardinal Guardians all made quite a good name for themselves in varying ways in society, be it with the magicless and magicians. And yet… it’s odd that the same does not apply to the White Tiger for the past decades.”

What is he going with this-

“Fengyue told me that the last time the White Tiger chose a master was seven decades ago, but when the pact ended, any traces of his master at the time disappeared, as if they never existed in the first place, and there are no new records of the White Tiger choosing a new master…”

His smile is ever present as they concluded. “Until you, that is.”

She raised a brow at him, confused to why Yaolan is bringing the subject of the Four Cardinals up. “...Your point?”

Yaolan laughed once more. “Haha, sorry about that, I noticed that the White Tiger’s aura had been imprinting close to you for months but I wasn’t sure if you and the White Tiger are official yet, now I’m sure that your pact with the White Tiger is official.”

...So he knew Shiro’s true form for that long.

“By outing Shiro and I in front of hundreds of students and the visiting audience?” She raised a brow at him.

“Whoa whoa, easy, it’s not like you’re the only one alone who got outed here.” He waved his free hand at her, the snake slithering back to his neck.

A voice boomed throughout the area.

“Well met.”

This wasn’t Shiro’s voice, rather, it came from the snake.

The snake glowed, floating up and away until the outline of a dragon (The Eastern kind, rather than the one from the west), was visible and the large dragon (Seiryuu, the Blue Dragon) loomed above them all, the dragon’s head lay above the master’s shoulder.

She shifted to her left, Shiro’s form glowing and revealing his true form in suit.

A large, mystique, elegant White Tiger (Byakkou, the White Tiger) now stood in Shiro’s place, on the defensive and looking for signs of an attack.

“There is little need for apprehension, we mean no harm.” The dragon spoke.

“The actions of your master spoke of otherwise.” Shiro retorted.

“Point taken, do forgive this mischief prone master of mine.” The dragon rumbled. “It’s been a while since we last met, not since over seventy years ago when your pact with Lady Kaname ended.”

Kaname? That’s-

She took a step forward towards the dragon, Yao Lan stepping back in surprise.

Her voice was shaky as she questioned. “How… How did you know my grandma?”

There was a momentary pause in the air and the dragon let out a rumbling laughter. “Hah! So you are Lady Kaname’s brethren! That does quite explain much to why my brother in arms chose you.”

The laughter paused as Yaolan looked aghast at their familiar. “You didn’t tell me that you knew who the previous master of the White Tiger was Fengyue!”

“You never asked for the master’s name, my lord.” The Blue Dragon, Fengyue, answered.

Yaolan gave the dragon a pointed look. “You're getting a pay back for this when we get back to RSA.”

The dragon gave an impression of rolling his eyes at his master’s antics before he asked. “Still, did my brother not speak to you of how well acquainted he was with your grandmother?”

“Kaname-sama made me promise to not speak about her to anyone else outside of those who already knew of her at the time. And I still need to see if she is worthy to be my Master, regardless of whether or not this child is of Kaname-sama’s blood.”

...What...?

Shiro… Shiro knew about grandma?

Grandma’s… she had been here? In Twisted Wonderland?

“A good decision.” The dragon nodded at him.

“...But what does revealing yourselves to the public have to do with this?”

At her question, the dragon seemed thoughtful, before answering. “My brother may not have sensed it as his pact with you is recent, but I shall tell you-”

“The Golden Dragon, the creator of the Cardinal Guardian Beasts, will soon awaken from slumber.” Yaolan cut the dragon off, resulting in the dragon looking indignant at the interruption.

“Every 500 years, the Golden Dragon awakens, descending to Twisted Wonderland to observe the state of the world since his slumber, interfere with the matter of mortals, if necessary, and potentially find an individual worthy of being it’s master.” Yaolan explained, the wording sounds as if they were reciting word for word of what has been told.

“I could explain with much more clarity.”

“But Fengyue! This is a once in a lifetime chance for all of us where we can see the Golden Dragon in the flesh! And you told me if the Golden Dragon awakens soon, it’ll be the first time since a millennia ago that all four masters of the Cardinal Beasts will gather in place and have a big reunion!”

The Blue Dragon stares at his master exasperatedly. “There’s more than just a reunion between us Cardinals.” Soon elaborating.

“The Golden Dragon’s awakening means that our lord has returned to give his blessings to the land of Twisted Wonderland… and he also comes back to judge and test the strength of the Cardinal Beasts and their chosen masters, to see if they are strong enough to protect and oversee the land in his absence.”

Ah.

“So in other words, we’re going to fight the King of the Cardinals.” She surmised.

The dragon nods. “Well spoken. It is but a test of strength.”

“Do you believe that our current Masters have what it takes?” Shiro pondered upon the dragon and Yaolan’s explanation.

“They have to be. Our lord and King would descend from the heavens soon, after all. In a few years, or in a more recent time, I do not know, however.”

“And isn’t that just the exciting part?” Yaolan grinned. “A reunion and a test of strength… I’ll be looking forward to fighting you in the future!”

“Your enthusiasm for a healthy competition is admirable, young Yaolan.” A blur of blue landed in front of them, causing them to step back.

“Whoa, Headmaster!”

A blue robed old gentleman with a blue wizard hat stood, smiling serenely.

So this man is RSA’s Headmaster.

“While I appreciate a good enthusiasm, you know you’re in trouble for disrupting an event in order to find a fellow master.”

Hearing that, the student gave the old man a sheepish grin, who is currently giving his student a pointed look. “Haha, oops?”

The Headmaster let out an exasperated but fond sigh. “Now please tell both your Familiars to let off their aura. While those sitting in the audience are safe, those in the vicinity don’t look like they can hold on for long.”

Without waiting for their reply, both Shiro and the Blue Dragon, Feng Yue, obliged. The unbearable pressure around them slowly left.

Feng Yue’s form now glowed in light and he returned to his snake disguise.

Neige, who had been down on the ground since both Yao Lan and herself started talking, slowly stood and walked towards the Headmaster. “Headmaster,! How are you here? That was a powerful magical Aura earlier...”

The RSA Headmaster chuckled. “It is a simple trick, young one.”

With a pat at his hat, the RSA Headmaster turned. “Now I won’t be keeping you for long, I shall escort Yaolan out and we can return to our scheduled event.”

The Headmaster took his leave, with Yaolan following and giving her a wave before leaving.

“Yuu!”

She turned, seeing Ace, Deuce and Epel at her left. The seniors followed behind them.

“He didn’t do anything else, did he?” Ace questioned.

She shook her head.

“But… when that dragon said Kaname… did he really mean the same Kaname who was your grandmother?” Deuce pondered.

“...I’ll talk about that later once VDC is officially over.” She answered.

Yuu turned her attention back to the now shrunk Shiro and let him climb onto her shoulders and headed for the backstage.

She tried to ignore all the eyes now on her over the new information and once she’s away from invasive eyes, she called for her new familiar’s name.

“...Shiro?”

“Yes?”

“Can you tell me more about what grandma’s like years ago? She... grandma never told me about the world she was once spirited away too.”

Grandma had been open about how she was spirited away when she was younger, but never mentioned where.

What urged her to decide to keep it quiet?

“...Very well, you deserve to know more about her too, my liege.”

“...Thank you.“

Crewel saw the Headmaster brewing up a storm, feathers puffed, in a way, at the unbelievable sight in front of him.

As he looked at the screen of the troublesome puppy in his Homeroom standing firm next to the Cardinal Beast who revealed himself to have been playing masquerade to the whole school this whole time, he couldn't help but grin as he recalled how the Headmaster had treated his supposed ward.

How ironic.

The supposed ward he took in and then neglected, believing she may become irrelevant in the long run, is now relevant for a longer run.

“The Cardinal Beast of the West and the East…” Riddle murmured at the sight of the two beasts on screen.

He only heard of legends and stories about them.

To see them in the flesh… All he could say is that they are absolutely ethereal.

He has a lot to ask of Yuu later.

Leona groaned once he saw the White Cat and Blue-green snake transform to their true forms. “A Cardinal Beast. Great. No wonder none of us Beastfolk can actually sense his presence beyond whatever magic he did hours ago.”

Something did happen that caused the data in the stadium to go poof, and the Omnivore is deliberately hiding it, not because of what it entails, but to hide her recently finalized pact with such a powerful creature.

A smart move, if he had to say it himself.

If the white cat ended his masquerade so early in the year, the other students in this school would do anything to get their hands on having a powerful creature as a partner.

Though, given that most familiars, regardless of whether they are a regular one or a powerful mythical beast, stays loyal to their chosen master anyway, any attempts to steal a familiar would have ended as quickly as their greed was born.

That’s not counting the repercussions of angering a mythical beast either.

...He can sense a troublesome call coming from brother dearest later once the VDC is over.

He’s going to have his eye on the Omnivore soon.

Anyone who is known to be the Master of one of the four Cardinal Beasts would be looked for by world leaders for sure, if only because those Masters often serve Diplomats and each of them had done many achievements as balance keepers in history, and thus, can also give the world leaders a one up against others in a political standing if said master specifically chose a country.

That’s just how powerful of an influence that the Cardinal Beasts have, and why those who managed to make a pact with them are considered a big deal to many of the world’s leaders.

The East already had the RSA kid now.

The Southern lands had the Master of the Vermilion Bird who is making a name for herself in the recent news as a promising Magician, in spite of her young age.

The Master of the Black Turtle is stationed in the Northern lands of Twisted Wonderland, and is Valley of Thorns’ diplomat stationed in Pyroxene outside of being the mentor of the Vermilion Bird’s master.

He is currently the one that the world knew to have been the Black Turtle’s master for two centuries due to being a Fae, unlike some of the human and/or beastfolk masters that had been chosen by one of the four Cardinals in history.

That left the Omnivore as a free game as far as Masters of the Cardinal Beasts goes, as the White Tiger that governs the West.

Then there’s what the Blue Dragon is saying, about how the Golden Dragon will wake in the near future...

...He’ll leave all the politicking to Aniki later.

“You always get into troublesome things somehow, Omnivore.”

Azul adjusted his glasses.

Floyd and Jade grinned beside him in excitement.

The fact that Shiro, the white cat accompanying the Ramshackle Prefect together with Grim-san, is actually one of the Four Cardinal Beasts is unexpected, but his interest is piqued at another piece of information.

“The Golden Dragon, King of the Cardinals, should soon awaken…”

His lips curved to a smirk.

That would be a sight.

“So that rascal of a kitty cat who got tamed by her is actually the White Tiger in disguise and his previous master was the Ramshackle Prefect’s relative? I knew something’s up with her when she showed up out of the blue and added onto her involvement in the recent incidents, this really proves that she’s an Isekai Shounen Manga protagonist… man I’m glad I kept a distance around her over the past months.”

Click, clack.

The sound of the tablet’s keyboard registered to Idia Shroud’s ears.

He furrowed his brows. “...That RSA kid was right. There’s not a single trace of that Prefect’s relative at all outside of the Blue Dragon and White Tiger’s account.”

At the tablet’s screen, it shows:

“No matching records found.”

“You already asked me several times over the past few minutes, Headmaster, I knew nothing of the fact that Yuu Shiina’s White Cat Familiar is actually a Cardinal Beast masquerading as a familiar akin to my Lucius.”

Massaging the temples on his forehead, Mozus Trein let out a sigh at the Headmaster’s repeated questions.

He truly knew nothing about the fact that a Cardinal Beast has been hiding right under their noses as a regular familiar.

And said beast chose the dimensionally displaced student as his master due to the fact that she was actually a relative to his previous master.

All he knew was that the white cat initially arrived in Night Raven College in search of a master three years ago.

...Wait.

Three years ago…

“...If I recall correctly, it was Vanrouge who brought the cat in question when he was enrolled three years ago. Claiming that the cat Familiar belonged to an old friend and it is searching for a new master.”

However, given that the cat is actually a Cardinal Beast in disguise… that could mean-

“...Vanrouge knew the cat’s true identity all along.”

“A Cardinal Beast… that certainly explained the stillness of the air hours ago. I always thought that white cat was far more than he seemed when I saw him in the company of that Child of man from Ramshackle.” Malleus placed a hand under his chin, looking thoughtful.

Sebek stared at the spectacle in disbelief, the conversation and scene of the confrontation between the two masters of the Cardinal Beast is in full view for everyone to see. Be it those in Sage Island and those outside of it.

"To think such a beast had been hiding this whole time… and yet, he didn’t choose Malleus-sama, but that human!”

Sebek felt furious, fist clenched at the thought that his liege was not chosen by the Cardinal Beast.

Silver, on the other hand, scrutinized Lilia. “...You told me that the cat belonged to an old friend.”

Lilia, on his part, blinked. Smiling oh so innocently as Malleus and Sebek now turn towards him. Eyes wide at Silver’s words.

“My, I forgot that I’ve spoken to Silver about it once.”

“...So you knew what the cat actually was all along?”

At Silver’s question, Lilia chuckled in a good natured way. “Why yes, I’ve been long acquainted with him for seventy years.”

“...Then-”

“I wasn’t expecting Kaname’s granddaughter to appear in Twisted Wonderland the way she did after her grandmother left this world all those years ago. And yet, here she was.”

Malleus furrowed his brows. And then his eyes lit up in remembrance. “Now I remember.”

Malleus spoke, recalling the memory. “I often came across a young woman who often visited the castle seventy years ago. However, I was unable to get properly acquainted with said guests with grandmother telling me that she has that woman’s matters handled.”

He concluded. “No wonder the Child of Man seemed familiar.”

Malleus then questioned. “Did you let the beast and child of Man meet because you knew who they are actually related to?”

Lilia shook his head, his smile ever present. “Why, I only nudged my old friend towards the young lady’s direction. It was simply my old friend’s decision to choose her as his master in the end.”

Lilia then walked forward, his eyes gazing at the widescreen of the colosseum where the camera still showed the two masters of the Cardinal Beasts conversing.

“...Why did you go so far and back for her fa-, Lilia-senpai?”

Silver had asked of the question once, out of curiosity, but Silver decided to repeat it again with this new information.

His father never gave Silver a clear answer to why beyond the fact that he felt that the Ramshackle prefect needed it because the Headmaster refused to give her that help beyond the bare minimum.

“...It is the least that I can do for Kaname.”

Malleus, Sebek and Silver watched Lilia smile, his eyes melancholic and solemn as the older fae uttered out the name of his old friend.

“Lilia, that rascal…” On the throne, the olden fae let out an exasperated sigh once she saw the White Tiger through clairvoyant magic, facing off the Blue Dragon.

“...So that little girl is Kaname’s granddaughter.”

The fae’s lips curve to a grin.

The queen internally mused, would this child be anything similar as her grandmother?

A too idealistic yet optimistic fool whose friendliness towards the supernatural earned her a favor of many?

“Perhaps a visit to Night Raven College can be arranged in a few days. I wish to see how Malleus fares as well...”

A pale man with blue locks had his eyes locked onto the wide-screen TV in a luxurious room, his eyes registering what he had just seen and heard.

“Kaname... that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long while.” He murmured.

“What do we do now, Wilhelm?” His partner, a small black land turtle, pondered.

“Hmm, I suppose a little visit to Sage Island won’t hurt. Our diplomatic duties in the Shaftlands at the moment are done anyway.”

The sound of scattered and fallen utensils resounded the dining booth.

“Kalea, what’s wrong!?”

The individual, a blonde haired, caramel skinned girl had her attention firmly on the phone broadcasting the live stream, ignoring her other companions.

The vermillion parakeet perched on her shoulder inquired. “Lady Kalea?”

Kalea did not pay any heed as she registered and take in the sight she saw and what she heard.

The masters of the Blue Dragon and the White Tiger have showed themselves to the world.

“I need to call Master Wilhelm about this...” She murmured with a smile of anticipation curved her lips.

She needs to meet with her fellow masters of cardinal beasts soon.

This is going to get a bit long but here I go.

Yes, this was what I was planning in regards to the Natsume Yuujinchou inspiration on Yuu (Rei) and Shiro.

Yuu (Rei)’s dead grandma is basically a more benevolent and adored Natsume Reiko to Yuu (Rei)’s Natsume Takashi back when she’s alive.

Shiro is always meant to be the Nyanko-sensei to Yuu (Rei)’s Natsume.

Now Yuu (Rei) officially went from “Irrelevant magicless student turned technical magician” to “VERY relevant, master of one of the Cardinal Beasts, potential political ally, relative of a royal family’s friend, CAN’T BE KICKED OUT UNLESS YOU WANT POLITICAL BACKLASH” for Crowley.

Irony at it’s finest.

And yes, this was what led to the events of “you lose at zero trust”. Crowley tries to make amends because he only realized now that he fucked up big time with Yuu (Rei) because she kept way too many things from him now, added onto the fact that she is now officially very relevant to the world of Twisted Wonderland now.

Only it backfired because Yuu (Rei) had lost all trust in him by that point to consider or accept that he started to care after leaving her be for so long, plus the fact that he still treats Yuu (Rei) as if she’s the canon MC, your regular joe and jane who got brought out to the middle of nowhere and would rather go back home instead of learning about Yuu (Rei) the individual.

Crowley choosing a really bad timing to try and make amends isn’t really helping his case either.

If it’s any other time, Yuu (Rei) wouldn’t have snapped as badly as she did in “you lose at zero trust”, and she may still give Crowley a chance, but Crowley blew it up completely by picking a bad timing.

So yeah.

I wanted to write something like this with a Twisted Wonderland twist for the mythical Four Gods so this is also what makes “black or white” a complete AU from canon.

This is also going to be connected to what I mention a while back, that Bravely Default is a huge inspiration Yuu (Rei)’s story.

To sum it up, Crowley is to Yuu (Rei), the Airy to her Warriors of Light.

In Bravely Default, Airy is introduced as a supporting character who help the heroes. However, getting to the climax reveals that Airy, who is based on the typical RPG helper fairy, is actually working for the true villain of the game and is manipulating the heroes (and the player by extension) for her plans.

The end of Pomefiore in “black or white” would be what I consider as the turning point.

At any rate, Crowley is the Airy to Yuu (Rei) that he wants to manipulate and get something out of Yuu (Rei)’s presence but ultimately couldn’t get that now that Yuu (Rei) had grown too important to Twisted Wonderland at large.

Penyakit yang ramah.

Ada bagian yang tersembunyi dibalik paras lembutnya.

Bagian gelap dan lembab yang kemungkinan besar penuh dengan udara kurang baik yang mampu menjangkiti penyakit tanpa obat bagi siapa pun yang berhasil mendekati dan tinggal didalamnya.

Seisi hidupnya hanya angan, hanya ambisi untuk meraih apa yang disebut dengan Kesenangan. Kesenangannya menghabiskan waktu bermain bersama lawan jenis baik didunia nyata atau pun maya, kesenangannya memberikan luka ke siapa yang telah mengenalnya begitu baik dan dalam hanya untuk menebar penasaran ke orang-orang baru dengan berbagai cara yang bisa ditempuh, kesenangannya saat enggan tuk ditegur ketika khilaf, kesenangannya untuk dianggap royal dan fancy dengan meminjamkan uang atau membiayai hidup orang-orang yang bahkan tak pernah ada saat dia terpuruk, kesenangannya memiliki karakter yang susah sekali mengucapkan maaf, tolong dan terima kasih, kesenangannya menambah derita orang lain dan tanpa ampun serta dengan kesengajaan justru ingin sekali melihat orang yang menderita tersebut segera mati walau ia tahu baik kalau orang tersebut telah putus asa menyesali semua kesalahannya.

Mungkin aku pernah tahu dan mengenal orang-orang yang memiliki rasa dendam yang begitu hebat. Sampai sampai, waktu yang berjalan, berjuta maaf, dan untaian kata-kata baik yang menunjukan penyesalan tak berhasil meredam dendam tersebut. Kalau pun iya aku pernah bertemu orang-orang seperti itu, sepertinya aku tak dapat mengingatnya dengan baik bahkan sepertinya aku lupa.

Lalu kemudian setelah bertahun-tahun, aku kembali seperti diingatkan kepada para manusia pendendam itu melalui satu sosok yang justru pernah dekat, pernah tinggal di hati, dan pernah mengarungi susah dan bahagaia bersamaku.

Singkat cerita, kami sudah tak lagi bersama selama 8 bulan lamanya. Dia mengusirku dengan makian dan hinaan (ciri khas pemiik karakter tertulis diatas), dan lalu kami berjalan masing-masing kembali tanpa kata perpisahan. Bisa kupastikan dia bisa dengan mudah melanjutkan hidup tanpa rasa apapun membekas di hati dari penyesalan, maaf yang tak sempat terucap, atau apapun itu. Berbeda dengan aku yang harus bersusah payah jalanin hari-hari setelah itu, malam demi malam dari satu perih ke perih lainnya.

Saat belum sembuh luka, dia kembali datang tanpa tanda apapun. Mencari perhatian, kembali mencoba menyapa dengan kata-kata indah khasnya namun tanpa kata maaf seperti yang memang dia tak pernah mampu ucapkan. Dia sekali lagi datang menyapa hanya untuk memastikan bahwa aku masih terluka dan masih belajar sembuh, agar dia bisa sekali lagi menambahkan beban perih yang kuderita. Dan ternyata benar, dia datang lagi sebentar itu cuma memberi sentuhan pamungkas sakit dan luka.

Beberapa hari sebelum hari ulang tahunnya dan disaat aku masih trauma berdua bersama dengannya dia datang kembali, tanpa kata tolong, maaf juga terima kasih memintaku menemaninya ke suatu tempat yang sangat familiar dengan gaya hidupnya yang sekarang. Aku meyakini dia pun mendatangi semua orang-orang dilingkarannya baik yang tersakiti atau tidak, laki-laki dari dunia maya maupun nyata. Jika tak mendatangi mereka bisa juga melalui story kode yang tiap hari di feed olehnya, bisa melalui sapaan chat broadcast, dan entah apapun itu yang pastinya dia sudah amat menguasai gameplay seperti itu. Berharap semoga hari ulang tahunnya indah dan berwarna seperti kesenangannya, pesta ulang tahun yang penuh bermacam kado hadiah juga makanan kesukaannya, dan pastinya semua mata tertuju padanya.

Dan segera setelah pesta itu selesai, kembali semua orang-orang tersebut akan dijangkiti penyakit tanpa obat dan menderita (diacuhkan, diabaikan, dicaci dan dimaki lalu diusir), sementara dia tetap mampu jalan melenggang dengan anggun seraya tetap lanjutkan hidupnya dengan tidak ada perasaan bersalah dan tanpa rasa penyesalan sedikit pun. Oh iya, menurutku hal seperti bisa banget terjadi karena dia tahu kalau dia dicintai, disukai dan ramah (friendly). Banyak memang yang datang kepadanya dengan dalih penasaran, pinjam uang, mabar (gaming bareng), sharing soal anime dan interest yang sama, sampai saling DM dan chat, dll. Dan menurutku butuh skill khusus dan mumpuni untuk memainkan karakter itu, biar tidak salah berkirim pesan dan atau salah mention kan?. Sebegitu mendukungnya dunia internet baginya, bolak balik umpan feed dan open chat media sosial dan game online dengan tanpa lelah melayani mereka yang tak pernah tampak muka dan tampak peduli bahkan rela membiayai hidup mereka. Ditambah euforia lingkungan kerja yang mengobrak-abrik prinsip dan gaya kebiasaan hidup sebelumnya yang sederhana. Semoga saja dia selalu sehat dan panjang umur untuk tetap bisa "melayani semua".

"Demi Tuhan, jika dia melangkah ke hal-hal yang baik dan menjadi lebih baik, maka aku akan tetap menyesal dan menderita sepanjang hidupku. Namun jika sebaliknya, maka aku akan terima semua dan jalanin sisa hidupku dengan senyum bahagia tanpa derita dan sesal sedikit pun"

Tuhan selalu punya cara

Dulu, aku pernah meminta agar debar itu disegerakan sirna. Tapi Tuhan memperlakukanku seolah tidak pernah mendengar pinta itu.

Ia membiarkan debar itu semakin penuh pada ruang yang tidak begitu luas. Mempersilahkan aku untuk jatuh cinta sejatuh yang aku bisa. Membiarkan aku bergembira pada kabar dan halu yang aku buat. Hilang kendali, dibuat senang oleh prasangkaku sendiri.

Sampai suatu ketika, Tuhan mendatangkan kejadian untuk menyampaikan suatu pesan yang paling menyakitkan. Mengiris habis hati yang penuh dengan harapan. Membakar bayangan yang menjadi memori paling bodoh untuk disimpan. Ketika itu, jatuh cinta menjadi bagian terpahit bagi manusia yang dibunuh oleh prasangkanya sendiri.

Sampai disini aku paham, bahwa Tuhan selalu punya cara terbaik untuk menjawab pinta seorang hamba-Nya. Tuhan tidak hanya menghilangkan debar itu saja, tapi membuatnya tidak akan kembali datang. Menginginkan agar debar itu tidak lagi punya kesempatan untuk dikenang kembali dengan perasaan senang.

Tentu butuh keberanian yang besar untuk menanyakan ini kepadamu. Tentang pemikiranmu terhadap apa yang selama ini aku rasa. Tentang bencinya aku terhadap sikap baik kakak yang sudah meluluhkan hati ini.

"Lah, ngapain takut? Yang penting kita ngelakuin kebaikan itu dengan niat yang bener. Urusan perasaan itu urusan masing-masing. Kalau ada yang suka sama kita, yah itu urusan dialah. Adapun kita, harus selalu berusaha untuk terus melakukan kebaikan dengan niat yang benar."

Aku tersenyum tapi merasa pedih membaca chatmu kak. Benar memang, perasaan ini urusanku. Tapi bagaimana bisa begitu saja lepas tangan sedangkan kakak sudah keterlaluan memberi harapan.

"Dek, laki-laki itu, selama dia belum mendatangimu dan menyatakan perasaannya kepadamu, maka jangan pernah mengartikan segala kebaikan dan perhatiannya. Itu terlalu membuang waktu. Jika dia cinta, maka dia akan mengatakan dengan caranya sendiri. Jadi, jangan berasumsi dan memikirkan suka atau tidaknya dia kepadamu.".

Aku menelan ludah dan berulang kali coba meresapi kata-kata yang kakak kirim. Agar ia benar-benar menyadarkan diri ini yang sudah terlanjur menaruh harapan. Kakak benar, aku saja yang terlalu mengartikan semua kebaikan kakak dengan perasaan cinta.

My #1 post of 2022

SEPI

Aku tidak menyangka bahwa dewasa bisa sesepi ini. Banyak cerita yang harus disimpan. Banyak keluh yang harus tertahan. Banyak perasaan yang terasa lebih baik jika dipendam. Meski aku tahu bahwa Tuhan selalu menemani, tapi rasanya, aku tetap membutuhkan seseorang yang bisa diajak berbicara, mendengarkan isi pikiran dan bertukar pendapat.

Aku tidak menyangka bahwa dewasa bisa sesepi ini. Pertemuan tidak pernah memiliki waktu yang banyak, kita hanya mengingat sebentar selebihnya sibuk dengan dunia masing-masing. Tidak ada tuntutan yang pantas diberikan, sebab kita mau tidak mau harus bisa menggerakan diri sendiri untuk sampai pada tujuannya, setidaknya bisa memenuhi kebutuhan yang semakin lama, semakin banyak.

Aku tidak menyangka bahwa dewasa membuatku harus bertemu di hari-hari yang ternyata untuk membahagiakannya saja begitu sulit. Membuat hari itu membara dengan semangat dan optimis saja ternyata bisa membutuhkan energi dan rasa yang campur aduk. Belum lagi, jika merasa begitu payah karena menghadapi kegagalan. Ternyata tidak mudah, dunia begitu cepat berubah sedangkan aku merasa belum belajar banyak hal.

Sepi ini, semakin lama mungkin akan semakin terbiasa. Aku harus berpikir banyak hal agar sepi ini bisa aku ubah dengan hal yang jauh lebih bermakna, meski kadang masih coba-coba.

the irritated, hissing inhale that had been about to jettison a snide comment expands and fizzles out on the back of his tongue as he glances over his shoulder. she's not looking back at him; she doesn't seem like she's looking at anything, not really.

he hovers for what feels like a dog's age before his joints finally unlock enough for him to turn around and sit on the desk beside her. his hand settles laxly in hers, palm up and waiting, should she want to take it. the pictures from their latest investigation are tacked up on every available inch of wall in front of them, a collage of mess and mayhem and malice. it's tempting to go and rip them all down, stuff them in a drawer and enjoy the TABULA RASA of peeling drywall for just a few hours. maybe it'd be easier if he had any confidence they wouldn't go right back up the moment he left the room.

time ticks on. the analog clock in the back of the room announces every passing second. silence has never been heavy like this between them, but there's something underneath it this time, some invisible ballast, and it's sinking them both like a stone. he doesn't know how to break it. he SHOULD break it. what is it you're thinking, kid?

' you go on when you're ready. ' there's no sweet-talking, no presentient sympathies; she'd see through measly platitudes in a second, he thinks. ' i'll be 'ere. ' better to listen than to start fighting, or so he's heard, and so he will. and they'll sit there for as long as she wants, waiting for the walls to talk.

#Sedikit cerita

Jadi lebaran tahun 2023 ini aku pulang, dari Jakarta ke kampung mamaku di Sumatera Barat tepatnya di Palembayan Kab Agam, naik bus. Pas naik bus ngira nya duduk sendiri kan yaa karena di pemberhentian Bus pertama gada orang yg ikut duduk disebelah ku. Sampe di pemberhentian berikut nya ada cowo baru datang didepan aku yg lagi bingung nyari tempat duduk.

Aku basa basi nanya "mas kursi no brp?" Dia jawab "no 39 ka". Dalam hati duh pas bgt lagi di samping aku, malesin bgt deh kirain tadi bakal sendiri & bisa selonjoran kaki huftt..

Awal awal pas uda duduk sebelahan canggung banget terus makin kesini uda ngga.

Namanya B.M.H (Singkatan) Kelahiran tahun 2002, sekolah di Sttd Bekasi. Orang nya sopan, menyenangkan, baik, asyik diajak ngobrol, sayang keluarga, suka anime. Udah punya pacar yaah walaupun sesuku. Di Sumbar gaboleh pacaran/nikah sesuku dan dia bilang nya tetep ingin ngelanjutin itu.

Btw dia uda pacaran sama cewe ini dari lulus smp yah uda 5 taunan lah yaa. katanya kadang ada si rasa bosen nya walaupun pacar nya kuliah di Ipb bogor tapi jarang ketemu juga. Cewe nya org Padang juga tapi lebaran sekarang ga pulang karena kuliah dan libur nya ga lama.

Btw dia sempat nanya "Kamu yg sesibuk ini masi butuh pacaran juga gasi, masi ada waktu buat mikirin pacaran ga?" Trus aku jawab "mungkin kalo sekarang ngga lagi fokus karir dulu, lagi proses memperbaiki diri & lagi belajar mencoba mengendaliin egoku, kalo kamu?". Balasku bertanya.

"Kalo aku Iya, butuh support sistem. Tapi aku juga pegen ngakhirin ini krna awalnya ga ada niat buat pacaran, karena pengen ngebahagiain ortu dulu tapi karena uda terlanjur & berjalan 5 tahun juga jadi di jalani dulu aja. Iya kalo bisa kamu jangan pacaran dulu, aku aja yang lagi pacaran pengen ngakhirin karna selain buang² uang aku mau fokus karir, org tua dulu. Dan kalo ada apa² nanti nya ga ngaruh ke studi ku. Alhamdulillah juga cewe aku dia org nya sederhana jadi dulu aku main sama dia ga minta ortu uang nya aku dapet dari ngajar les anak sd. Nah karna 1 anak sd ini rangking nya naik mama nya rekomendasiin aku ke org tua lain sampe aku bisa ngajar 6 org anak dan setiap dapat uang itu aku beli martabak buat keluarga aku salah satu nya juga dipake buat jalan sama ceweku. Aku mikir malu kalo harus minta uang ke ortu hanya buat main sama pacar sekarang aja alhamdulillah kadang ada temen yg joki tugas ke aku, kadang ada juga temen yang males jaga malam jadi minta tolong ke aku".

Dia lumayan banyak cerita saat dulu masih sd katanya "kamu tau ga kenapa aku suka permen? Karna dulu aku pernah kecanduan merokok. Sampe suatu saat aku mikir gada manfaat nya ngerokok jadi buat gantiin rokok aku suka makan permen tapi ga begitu suka permen mint lebih suka permen manis kaya mentos". Xixixi ada ada aja ya, bisa bisa nya anak sd berpikiran jauh kaya gini.

Kadang kalo lagi suntuk sambil ngabisin waktu kita main game tebak gambar bareng😅, liat pemandangan di luar bus sambil cerita cerita ketawa² bareng. Kadang kalo pas aku ketiduran di bus terus karna ga sengaja kebangun aku lihat dia lagi baca quran. Dan setelah aku tanya ke dia ternyata dia punya target buat baca quran setiap hari nya. Masyaallah..

Kamu uda tau aku kaya gimana tidur nya aku juga uda tau kamu tidur nya gimana..lucu si kalo di inget² kdg aku ga sengaja nyender di bahu kamu sampe² leher aku sakit😂 Seru bisa ngobrol, sharing² yaah walaupun cuma sehari setengah. Mungkin habis ini kita pisah disini, dan ga mungkin bsa chat/berkabar setiap bntar. thanks ya, maaf juga kalo slama di perjalanan ada salah".

Cukup sedih si harus pisah disini. dan semoga aja besok² bisa dapet temen sebangku yg kaya dia tapi mungkin ga seasyik dia. Mungkin kalian kira aku lebay atau gampang baper karena bisa bisa nya menyukai orang yang baru aja dikenal. Tapi suka ga kenal waktu dan tempat dimana pun kapan pun itu. Selama di perjalanan kepribadian dan dari tutur bahasa nya lah yang membuat aku hanyut..dia beda dari cowo yang pernah aku temui. Semoga kami dipertemukan lagi di waktu yang tepat, saling memperbaiki diri dan semoga yang Maha Kuasa berbaik hati kepada ku untuk bersama dengan nya. Ingin disini karena tidak banyak yg mengetahui

Hi, it's been a while. Peralihan menuju tahun yg baru ini, perasaanku bercampur aduk. It's messed up but one thing for sure: I learn a lot.

Aku belajar mengenai tisane mulai dari filosofinya, do's and dont's, dan explore recipe blend. Aku sadar gak punya ilmu yg cukup jadi aku beli buku, pelajari otodidak dan diskusi sama umi.

Oh iya aku jadi banyak menyampaikan ide. Since I was planning small business, it was quite exhausting journey. Aku sering susah tidur kalau konsepnya belum selesai. Aku belajar procurement mulai dari cari supplier dan kurasi produk. Aku juga mulai nerapin sustainable living walau masih jauh dari sempurna. Aku mulai merasa berdosa kalau belanja pakai plastik dan menyarankan keluarga untuk bawa foldable bag atau spoundbound. Cerita menariknya umi mulai belanja pepaya dan menolak menggunakan plastik. Umi bilang "anakku ngelarang pakai plastik, harus ramah lingkungan". I smile brightly at that time.

Aku juga belajar milah sampah terutama koleksi bubble wrap dan kardus. Menyenangkan ketika kami memisahkan lakban dari kardus dan menggunakan kertas gak terpakai dan dijadikan hiburan untuk dicacah dengan paper shredder. Bubble wrap yg sudah rusak akan ditekan sama umi sampai habis, it's satisfying, isn't it? Aku juga memutuskan beli packaging all eco friendly mulai dari honeycomb paper wrap, gummed tape, bottle dll. Aku juga sedang mengumpulkan kemasan skincare agar bisa dibersihkan dan digunakan kembali. Awalnya sangat berat dan akan muncul pemikiran is it worthy karena rasanya tentu lebih ribet tapi menjadi lebih considerate dan bertanggung jawab dalam produksi-konsumsi juga layak diperhatikan. Semoga bisa konsisten:')

Aku jadi beli barang yg ku inginkan dulu tapi kali ini emang kami butuh fungsinya jadi bukan beli demi keinginan aja. Tentu aja tanganku ini bisa merusak sesuatu karena kecerobohan. Aku kesenangan main meteran, dijadikan pancingan lalu ditekan supaya narik otomatis dan berakhir rusak dalam 1 hari haha.

Tapi dibalik itu semua, aku gak merasakan apapun. Kebahagiaan terasa sementara dan hambar. Mungkin aku yg kurang bersyukur atau aku yg mulai mencari apa yg sebenarnya tidak hilang. Aku bisa jadi anak yg berisik dengan tingkah konyolnya, kakak yg suka iseng gangguin adiknya tapi ketika kembali ke kamar, aku merenung. Aku bisa menatap dinding dalam waktu lama dan menghembuskan napas sangat berat. Aku yg mulai bosan dan mematikan notif social media karena tau gak ada lagi yg ku tunggu dari sana. Aku selalu menghapus pesan yg belum sempat ku kirimkan atau mengurungkan niat reply story teman tuk bahan obrolan. I lost the engagement while feeling emptiness and freaking lonely.

Aku takut banyak hal terutama perasaan kecewa karena itu aku lebih sadar dan menarik diri. Aku udah gak seantusias dulu dan banyak berpikir dalam apapun. Aku jadi orang yg lebih serius dan tidak menyenangkan. Aku juga kadang kehabisan ide untuk merespon atau malah terkuras energi sebelum komunikasi. Tapi aku banyak rindu. Aku diam-diam nangis ditengah malam dan mendoakan orang lain bahagia. Ada rasa sesak ditenggorokan karena berusaha tak bersuara sedang isaknya mendalam. Aku memeluk selimut sangat erat dan sesekali merangkul dan mempukpuk kepala sendiri. Satu hal yg terus ku sadari: Aku mulai mempercayai orang lain dan menurunkan kemandirian agar bisa dijaga dan dilengkapi. Maka setelah mereka tak bisa selalu ada, aku kehilangan pegangan lagi. There's nothing that feels right currently.

And I thought "it's better to feel nothing than loving".

  Five days after Yashamaru’s death, Rasa wakes to Gaara screaming bloody murder in the dead of night. Images race through his mind - flames licking up from an exposed outlet; Gaara motionless on the floor, bleeding out from a head wound; a wild animal clambering through the open window with gnashing teeth and frothing gums - and he runs.

  He bursts into the room to find only the boy. Though unharmed, Gaara crouches in bed with his back jammed against the wall, knees pulled up tight, chest heaving like a madman. His finger is a beacon jabbing at an empty space by his bureau. In his half-conscious stupor Rasa only picks out the words Uncle Yasha cried over and over, a maddening and hypnotic chant turned rote from terror.

  Rasa, not entirely heartless, sits with his son that night. He does not touch him but to feel his forehead, pushing past sweat-matted auburn locks. He tucks the boy back in and flicks the nightlight on. The next morning they speak nothing of it, Rasa merely making himself a second pot of coffee, Gaara no more or less morose as usual.

  One month after Yashamaru’s death, Gaara has woken shrieking three more times, always with wild eyes and a frantic finger fixed on nothing, always insisting Uncle Yasha in that same panicked, near-incomprehensible babble. His siblings wake for two of these episodes; Rasa pushes past their bleary little heads as they poke through the doorway at the brother they barely know. Each time Rasa confirms no bodily injury. Each time he urges the boy to sleep with an edge to his voice that grows ever less tender and increasingly impatient.

  Some time later, Rasa steps out of a three-hour meeting with a migraine and immediately receives a call from Gaara’s second-grade teacher. He has been drawing pictures, and she thinks Rasa ought to know. They frighten the other children, and if she's quite honest, Sir, they disturb her as well. She would like him to come in and see them.

  Rasa has neither the time nor willpower for a children’s art show. He explains the circumstances, the upheaval in his boy's life, then has to explain again, stiltedly, when Gaara's teacher asks for clarification: your son did not live with you, his own father, beforehand? The conversation is not entirely accusatory, nor is it friendly. She suggests Gaara speak to the school counselor, but his father disagrees with an executive voice which leaves no room for argument: He is fine. Feeding into this attention-seeking behavior will only encourage it. Six-year-olds do not need psychological help. He will simply have to learn to toughen up.

  Three months after Yashamaru’s death, Gaara has learned the following: He has learned not to scream. He has learned, when he jolts awake to see his dead uncle hovering over his bed, skin corpselike gray, stringy hair like rancid, clotted straw, eyes and mouth gone, replaced by soulless, gaping static voids, to huddle beneath the covers with his hands pressed to his face so hard he sees stars. He has learned to answer "Good" when someone asks how he is feeling, and to draw pictures of houses and school busses and the dog that lives down the street, for these do not upset his classmates or prompt calls home from his teacher. He has learned that, in life, the person he must depend on most is himself.
