I feel like half my soul is on the other side of the ocean, and I don’t know how to stop feeling the ache of missing you. “What?” TK tries to play it off as confusion, but he knows he isn’t fooling anyone, least of all Judd. 

“How long, TK? We ain’t playing this game today. How long have you been using again?”

TK sighs, picking at his hospital bracelet. “Since Carlos left.”

Judd swears under his breath. “Two months? You’ve been using two months, and I didn’t fucking notice. I knew something was wrong, but I thought you were just depressed after everything. I should have known better.” Judd looks so guilty, and TK can’t handle it. 

“No, you shouldn’t have. I made sure you shouldn’t have. I hid it really well, Judd. You couldn’t have known, Judd, because I made sure you didn’t. This isn’t your fault. This is mine.” TK rushes through it, making sure Judd actually hears him. He waits a minute before asking in a small voice, “Does Carlos know? Has he been by?”

Judd’s lips press into a straight line, and TK immediately knows the answer. “No one’s been able to reach him, TK. He went to the event alone, shut his phone off and went into a meeting. He hasn’t come out yet.”

Marjan smiles tiredly, sipping at the mug of coffee Nancy hands her. “Babe, I think coffee is the last thing I need right now, but thank you. I love you very much,” she says while pressing the mug into Carlos’s hands, “but Paul and Carlos are going to play now. We,” Marjan says, pulling Nancy close, “are going to go to bed now. ” Judd whistles from where he is in the kitchen, drawing a laugh out of everyone in the room. 

Nancy wraps her arms around Marjan in reply, “You heard her, gentlemen. I will be taking my girlfriend to bed now, and I expect no interruptions. My girlfriend needs her beauty sleep.”

TK sits in the chair Marjan left vacant, holding a legal pad and a pen in one hand and a plate of avocado toast in the other. “I figured you’d want to take notes, and you also didn’t eat dinner last night.” 

Carlos snorts before he can stop himself, “They were burnt, TK. I was not going to eat burnt grilled cheeses, no matter how hungry I was.”

“Hey,” TK says indignantly, although there’s a small smile playing on his face, “they were not burnt, they were just …well done.”

“Well done? It’s not a steak, TK. It’s a sandwich.” 

“Yeah, well it’s the way my dad used to make them…” TK’s eyes widen as he realizes what he said, a silence falling across the room. TK’s face cracks open as he realizes that he used past tense while referring to his father and Carlos takes a step forward, his motions aborted when he realizes he can’t send mixed signals like that.

Not when TK is so vulnerable.

Rant about Spy x Family & Covert Affairs (found on Amazon Prime):

**I am watching the anime and have not read the manga yet

***This is long and you might want to skip my rambling but I felt the need to get it out

Okay, I have a little rant about Spy Family cause I keep seeing posts and it's aggravating me just a little but people keep pointing out that while Loid is getting more and more comfortable with Yor and Anya, his ability as a spy is diminishing. But I recently just rewatched Covert Affairs S1 and honestly, he's not becoming less of a spy but rather more of one.

Allowing truth to bleed into your lies makes your lies stronger and his family is not necessarily a lie with all the (forged) paperwork. His emotions being genuine bleeds through not only his act as a family man but Anya's and Yor's acts as well. Anya is a kid that obviously cannot lie well and his treatment, his relationship with her is how best he's going to influence her when she is out on her own representing them.

He also makes a point to always remind Yor she is part of the family because 1) she is and 2) in order for her to play her part, she has to believe in her role, that's going to allow others to believe their family tho it's also fair to assume her role will be more stepmom rather than mom.

This is a spy's life, managing assets in the field and expanding connections, all things Loid has given Twilight access to. A respected job, a daughter that goes to a prestigious school, and a wife that works in public service. He now has access to communities he might not have had before and more importantly, he has access long-term. No one can possibly question why he's hanging around this area for so long or perhaps not trying to move up the ladder because he's a family man devoted to his wife and his child's care. His child is in a very well respected school and his wife is a local (per the Handler).

In comparison, Annie Walker works at the Smithsonian and is a linguist which allows her to travel and she is comfortable traveling from previous experience. It gives her a way in with people but she also shares with others (typically other agents but sometimes assets) that she has a family waiting back at home, she's human too, with loved ones and that's what Twilight is finally becoming in my eyes is indeed the perfect spy.

I also feel like from some of the clips we do see before he gets to Operation Strix, he operated on almost an assassin basis rather than a spy. At least, from watching Covert Affairs, I see spies as managers in the field and collectors of intel. These spies in Spy x family might take on more of a dual role, I'm not sure.

I'd also like to point out that this is probably Twilight's first long-term mission. Long-term as in over a year. He could stay as Loid Forger indefinitely so long as he remains within valuable communities that allow him opportunities for WISE. And, while others call him the greatest spy of the West, we have no idea how he handled missions before Strix, and from what I can see of the missions he does alongside Strix, he probably messes up a lot more than we credit him. BUT, his success rate is high because he knows how to catch himself (and charm his way out), and once more, he probably never did a mission this long before so I doubt he knows how to handle himself when things he said last year come back to him because typically, his mission would already be over with.

And to address the Handler, we see her express emotion about the mission. She admitted to once having a daughter. That's probably why she joined WISE. All spies there seem to despise war and want only to bring peace. This is personal in their own way and that's why they must remind themselves to keep emotions out of their decision-making. That doesn't mean to suppress themselves or their compassion but do not let the heart rule on decisions that could be the key to a peaceful tomorrow and a war. I have yet to see her rule on the thought of emotions being bad (have not seen the manga yet) and Twilight also seems to have some qualms about his emotions during missions but Nightfall is the only one that I've seen take it so far and the others around her make note that is too far. That's not expected or required of them. In fact, her suppression of emotion can probably make some of her missions more difficult for her and other agents. And, it also means her inability to properly handle her emotions leads her to nearly compromise Twilight's mission.

Back to Annie Walker, we see her struggle with her emotions (she is a rookie after all) in the field. That's why she has Auggie (her handler) and Joan (her boss). Their job is to keep Annie focused and Annie's job is to keep her assets safe and focused so intel goes back to the CIA. But, Joan knows that the life of a spy is difficult especially with family and friends not knowing the truth. That's why Joan demands Annie takes a vacation, why she's watching closely, because the minute an operative snaps, they're gone. They either leave or they go rogue (seen in S1 with other agents). A handler has to know their operative better than anyone else so that when operatives reach the end of their rope, the handle can pull them back into safety.

I think The Handler knows Twilight all too well and that's honestly a good thing. and I think one reason for that is she will bear herself to him like she did speaking of her daughter and he bears a little of himself back. There's mutual respect and trust. If nothing else, an alliance that makes this possible. And, ensures Twilight doesn't go off the deep end. With his family around him now, I think this might make it easier to keep him focused, centered, and motivated.

Echo as a girl's name is of Latin and Greek origin meaning "reflected sound". In mythology, Echo was a nymph who loved Narcissus and faded away until only her voice was left behind.

The myth of the goddess is told in Book III of the Metamorphoses, and tells the story of a "talkative nymph" whom the goddess Venus admires for her magnificent voice and song. When she tricks Juno into believing that her husband, Jupiter, was in the city, Juno curses Echo by making her able to only finish a sentence not started, and unable to say anything on her own. Sometime after being cursed, Echo spied a young man, Narcissus, while he was out hunting deer with his companions. She immediately fell in love with him and, infatuated, followed quietly. The more she looked at the young man, the more she longed for him. Though she wished with all her heart to call out to Narcissus, Juno's curse prevented her.[2]

During the hunt, Narcissus became separated from his companions and called out, ‘is anyone there,’ and heard the nymph repeat his words. Startled, Narcissus answered the voice, ‘come here,’ only to be told the same. When Narcissus saw that nobody had emerged from the glade, he concluded that the owner of the voice must be running away from him and called out again. In her delight, Echo rushed to Narcissus ready to throw her arms around her beloved. Narcissus, however, was appalled and, spurning her, exclaimed, ‘Hands off! May I die before you enjoy my body.’ All Echo could whisper in reply was, ‘enjoy my body’ and having done so she fled, scorned, humiliated, and shamed.[4]

Despite the harshness of his rejection, Echo's love for Narcissus only grew.[5] When Narcissus died, wasting away before his own reflection, consumed by a love that could not be, Echo mourned over his body. What's Hemlock?

Poison hemlock (Conium maculatum) is a poisonous invasive weed that has caused many accidental deaths because of its resemblance to carrots, including the wild carrot (Queen Anne’s lace). The poisonous agents in the plant are volatile alkaloids, and they are found in every part of the plant. In addition to causing death when ingested, the plant also causes a miserable dermatitis in sensitive people upon contact with skin. Socrates drank the juice of this notorious plant to commit suicide, and ancient Greeks used it to poison their enemies and political prisoners. North American Natives dipped their arrowheads in hemlock to make sure every hit was fatal.

Annalise let April back on the case after Rebecca convinced her to. At the house, April laid her eyes on Sam, Annalise's husband, and she soon realized that she had seen him before— with Lila. April knows that the two had an affair, which made her think that Sam is definitely involved in her murder.

April is still contacting Nate about Sherri's case, and he's doing his part in finding out what happened to her. "So?"

Nate sits down next to April on the bench. She is holding an open book, pretending to read it, so she doesn't look suspicious. "Word has it that Sheri was involved with some shady people."

April furrows her brows. "What do you mean?"

"She used to deal."

"So, perhaps someone felt betrayed by her leaving," April keeps her head low, "and wanted to take revenge."

"Maybe. Did you know that she used to deal?"

April shakes her head slightly. "No. Have you found the remaining part of the body?"

"No. Not yet. Finding a body isn't as easy as it seems."

April hums. "Right."

Nate pauses. "You need to be careful."

"I am."

"April." She looks at him when he says her name. "I mean it. Especially since you think your mother might be involved."

April gives him a nod. "I'll be careful. Do you trust Annalise?" She changes the subject after a short pause. "Her husband was involved with Lila before she went missing, and I'm certain that he had something to do with it."

"Don't tell me you trust that man," she cuts him off. Nate stays quiet. "Call me if you find anything."

"Sure." She gets up and leaves.

"Sometimes, we’re not responsible for our own actions, because sometimes, we behave not like thinking, thoughtful human beings, but as animals," Annalise informs her class. "Such is the case of Gretchen Thomas," a picture of a woman pops up on the screen, "a successful real-estate agent, wife, mother. Like many a high-powered professional, stress and anxiety are part of her daily routine, so she takes a prescription sleeping pill before bed. Its side effects have caused her to buy clothes online, cook gourmet meals, and even initiate sex with her husband, all while completely unconscious. And then this happened."

The students turn to the screen and watch as their new client drags a body out of the house. "This is Ms. Thomas on her home-security system, dragging her nanny's dead, bloody body out of the house. And then what does she do? She begins to clean up the mess. Now, we all know the feeling— we've had a bad dream, we know we're asleep, but try as we might, we just can't seem to wake ourselves up."

They met their new client, and now they're at Annalise's house— ready to get started. "Since we can't put Gretchen on the stand, we're having the people who love her— her family— testify to her history of sleepwalking. So tomorrow, each of you will act as prosecutors, prepping each of the Thomases for their moment in the sun." Bonnie is handing out files— she holds one in front of April and Wes. "You two talk to the husband." Wes takes the file. "Dig in." Bonnie walks away.

"Anyone else feel like we do all her work for her?" Michaela asks as April walks past her.

"Just figuring that out now?" Connor asks her. April and Wes sit on the couch next to each other to talk about their new assignment.

"I was fine with it before exams, but now that everyone else in our class is locked away in their apartments, studying, we're falling behind, working as free labor."

"We're not your therapists, Michaela. No one here cares about your problems," April speaks up as she flips through the file.

Michaela glares at April; she goes to say something, and then she notices how fast she is flipping the pages. "You're supposed to read that, smart-ass."

April closes the file. "I did." She gives the file to Wes so he can read it. "You can study after the assignment. Better get started." Michaela doesn't respond; instead, she just sits down.

Asher stands. "While you guys all go be boring, study. I'll be at the bonfire, partying it up, mackin' on the chickadees."

April is writing down questions in her notebook. "Hey," Connor greets her and Wes in a low voice. "You guys want to study-group this weekend?

Wes scoffs. "Since when do you need to study?"

"Well, you take notes, April is a walking encyclopedia, and I have Adderall. We'll make a great team."

"Wes," Bonnie calls out to him before he can answer Connor. "Professor Keating wants to see you." Wes gets up and walks away.

Connor turns to April. "So?"

April gives him a short nod. "I'm in."

Connor grins slightly. "Awesome." He turns to Laurel, most likely to ask her the same question.

It’s getting late, April enters her apartment, and she's ready to sleep. Once she closes the door, the smell hits her hard— vodka. She stops in her tracks and turns the lights on. "Captain."

To say April is surprised is an understatement. "Tony, what are you doing here?"

Anthony stands from the couch where he was sitting. "I came to see you."

April looks doubtful. "You came all the way from Virginia to see me?"

Anthony steps closer to her. "I was promoted to detective, and they transferred me here a couple of days ago. I found out that you live here, and I just had to see you."

April smiles slightly. "It's good to see you, Tony."

"You too, April," he smiles back. "I'm sorry about Sheri. I heard what happened."

"It's fine. I'm moving on."

Anthony nods slightly. "No one is really doing anything to find whoever is responsible."

"I know," April sighs. "I'm trying to figure it out. I'm considering going back for information."

"No," Anthony shakes his head. "That's not a good idea. I'm a detective now, Captain. I'll help you find who did this."

"Really?"

"Yes. Absolutely. You saved me, so I owe you one." He gives her a card. "Stay in touch, April."

She nods. "I will."
