What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Ohhh DEFINITELY I Dreamed A Dream (2022)!! Not only is the title from the Les Mis song of the same name (where Fantine's life is just absolutely ruined), but I did the one thing I never thought I would be able to do... I KILLED one half of the otp!! It's a RyuuSusa fic, and of course, Major Character Death, proceed with caution!

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Oooohhh this is a really hard one since I'm such a sucker for happy endings! I think the one that makes me the happiest now is from The Caterpillar Man (2022). It's a fic I wrote to sort of conceptualize Yujin and Susato's relationship when the former came home from the original study trip, and it takes place over a year and among other tragedies and growth. It's from the perspective of Susato, and I think it's one that still makes me tear up (and I got fanart based on it once!!)

Do you get hate on fics? I've never been John Phoenix'd which is very rude, am I not GOOD enough for you DaKoolGuy?? but in all seriousness, I don't really get hate on specific fics, but because I'm so vocal about a certain pairing (being Ryuu X Susato.... if I'm not supposed to ship, why game make so cute?)

Do you write smut? Not on Ultraviolet_Ink, but I do on Infrared_Quill! Fun fact, Infrared got put on a blacklist when I only had one work, and Ultraviolet wasn't on it, I found it quite funny XD

What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? That's a good question that I don't have a single answer for XD I have a notepad full of a WIP list, but I think one that intrigued me when I first started off was this sort of continuation of the JFA 2-4 bad ending, just kind of coming from the ashes and then De Killer eventually kills Phoenix for betraying Matt Engarde (just because of the principle). It's really interesting to think about, but I honestly don't know how I could workshop it, and I remember stopping because It made me too sad haha! I'm not the first person who came up with a continuation of Miracle Never Happen, and I'm sure I won't be the last!

What are your writing strengths? I think I'm getting a lot better at dialogue, especially since I have a very good friend who helps me workshop them through a sort of RP! I would say that I'm also good at making a sort of vibe/ambiance, I know how to dress a scene B-) (Yes I was a theatre kid)

What are your writing weaknesses? Dialogue is also something I struggle a lot with, but I would say I get into my own head too much, and I over think and try to over explain to cover up "holes" (Cracked.Com owes me reparations for this)

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I'm a linguistics nerd, I love writing dialogue in other languages! I even wrote a fic entirely in Latin because I wanted to practice (Miles et Phoenix Romae Sunt (2021)). That being said, you have to use more than Google Translate, I've studied and majored in Spanish, so I'm confident enough in my own skill to write, but I don't really know German despite English being Germanic! So, while I do use Google Translate to get a base understanding, I try to run it by a native speaker, or at the very least, someone who has studied the language, to see if it makes sense haha. Or don't, I'm not your mom, and we're all just doing this for shits and giggles XD

First fandom you wrote for? ...... I’m curious about swimwear season

“Could I have the names of the agents I’m talking to?” Scar replies pleasantly.

“No you may not,” the agent says. “You can answer our questions, and if we’re satisfied with your answers, then we might not instruct the Marines stationed in the harbor to sink your ship and arrest your crew.”

A. window across the galaxy and adorations are my favorites. i think window’s the best longform piece i’ve ever written (and probably ever will) and i poured so much of myself into it. it was everything i wanted for rocket and it was healing for me, and i love and identify with jo so much. and adorations just makes me happy. ohhh you know what? i also really like ugly sweater and traditions. and machinery from prompt week. and triptych, sunshine, sweatshirt girl, and reconnaissance for beginners. and some of headcanons & imagines. shit.

E. i put a lot of myself in every oc and reader tbh. sweatshirt girl and jo are probably the most transparent self-inserts so far and came from places where they were 100% what i wanted to give rocket + the comfort i needed (sweatshirt girl was very much a reflection on my life at the time). well, and reader from tomorrow, which was 100% my attempt at self-comfort after a bad day at work. i reflected a lot of my real-life experiences through those characters, and i based the way they interact with others almost entirely on how i try to move through the world. i also expect to identify with noa at least as much as jo (oc from other duties as assigned, which might be why it’s so hard to write it). and honestly? i identify with rocket a lot. he wears his pain differently than i do but we both have skeletons that are not doing what we want them to do, chronic pain, and buckets of survivor’s guilt. plus i headcanon rocket has a sequencing disorder like me (ꈍᴗꈍ) i allude to it a lot in cicatrix and certain headcanons (like the sudoku one!) and some other things and i'm trying to write a fanfic about it lol

F. the only fic i have a mental playlist for is the very boring adventures of space pilot & sweatshirt girl, and it’s mostly chillhop essentials winter 2019 and aviino’s plush and cocoon albums but the thing is it HAS to be on vinyl because that’s the whole sweatshirt girl vibe

H. my writing style is chaotic, exists entirely outside the bounds of space & time (mostly because of the sequencing disorder) and is more about feeling than making sense. my word choice is self-indulgent and erratic and based more on what tastes right to me than anything else. emotions are way easier to write than plot. (huh. maybe that’s the sequencing disorder too.)

K. do i have any guilty pleasures in fic-writing or -reading?? girl i write raccoon porn. it would all be a guilty pleasure if i believed in guilty pleasures. but i don’t. i try really hard not to feel guilt about any of my pleasures. life is short. capitalism sucks. write about raccoon dick

L. it’s hard to say which piece of fanfiction was the most emotionally challenging for me to write because i think writing is actually a way of organizing and processing emotions for me. if anything, writing emotional scenes feels cathartic — a relief. but finishing things always feels risky. endings rarely satisfy people. so the more people like a piece of mind (blackmail material, window, windfall), the harder it is to end. it's more about trying to manage imposter syndrome than anything else i guess

R. markus zusak has been one of the most influential writers for me. i love that every character in his books has their own story, their own value and journey, independent of the main narrative. jonathan safran foer writes the sentences i want to write. the read like a gut-punch. (he gets quoted a lot in other duties.) both of these writers would probably be horrified by this because im fairly certain they do not write smut, especially not featuring raccoons

X. how do i characterize my fanfic reading? it really depends on what is going on in life. we all have to ration our time and i hate having to choose between reading and writing and drawing, but here we are. if it’s a fic by an author i like, i prioritize it. it can be really hard for me to read things that are released chapter-by-chapter over an extended period, so i am more apt to read things that are short-run or that are close to being finished. but i especially like to support writers i know — which is why i always ask folks to add me if they have a taglist ♡

D: What’s the most personal fanfic you’ve written?

Ohhh...hmmmm. I'd say my two multichapter AUs, and then dumb kids in their forties (SORRY TO KEEP BRINGING THIS ONE UP lol)

The multichapters (Mare Liberum and Dangerous) depict how I feel/felt about myself, my trauma, and as someone who has trauma that has colored their entire life.

Mare Liberum--written mostly a long time ago and conceived of pre-covid, even, is a version of myself that I feel rarely exists anymore. I love this fic and the universe so much, and wish I was updating it, but not only did it lose all but 1 person of its audience, I also wonder if I can't access that part of me anymore. That fic is just about someone bitter and angry at himself, at how the world treats and perceives him, at the wrongs done to him by others and by himself for who he is, and the fic's message (including the "love story" part) is--If you're born wrong, you're not gonna get a happy ending.

Dangerous is about the different ways people can become fucked up adults. Mikel's story, as I've said a few times, is a really twisted and exaggerated version of my own, and when we eventually get to the Christmas Chapter where Granit visits Mikel's parents for the holiday, this will be the first time I've ever ever given people a glimpse at how my lifelong mental health problems have informed my relationship with my own family. I...really don't like to talk about this topic, including in therapy, I think for Cultural Reasons, but because I understand Mikel's life so vividly, part of that is the family part. However--without giving away the ending, Dangerous I started coming up with in like, idk early 2022? And we were well into 2022 when I came up with the ending. The message of this fic, which could be perverse to some I guess, is "fucked up people deserve love too!" Obviously I'm not fucked up like Xhakarteta are in this but...what a lovely change of message ❤️

And then dumb kids in their forties...I didn't intend for the fic to be like this, but really, Jamie's thought process in this kind of depicts me in my absolute worst moments. Again, a bit exaggerated and what not, but like I was talking about the other day, the toxic inferiority. Idk if that's even a real concept, but I don't see it depicted to this intensity, and my own inferiority issues have done a shit-ton of damage in my adult life. It's something I work on a lot, and it felt self indulgent in a fun way to put Jamie through that.

There's a little bit of me in "Visited Upon the Sons" too--mostly, my frustration with compulsory heterosexuality and how it dominates conversations no matter where you go. But weirdly, writing that and discovering this through the fic, made me feel less frustrated about it in real life. Writing as Therapy!

Wow that was absolutely too long, I truly cannot shut the fuck up lol.

K:  Do you have a guilty pleasures in fic (reading or writing)?

Lately I've been enjoying reading and writing a little Wag Fic 🫢 it feels so taboo! I also like things that are kind of gratuitously exploitative, but with a caveat: it needs to be a little tongue in cheek, like I can tell the author is making a conscious choice. (I think Dangerous is kind of like that, or at least I hope so lol)

R: Which writers (fanfic or otherwise) do you consider the biggest influence on you and your writing?

Julio Cortázar, and to a lesser extent Carlos Fuentes and Gabriel García Márquez. Yesss my academic specialty was latin american boom and postboom lol. 11/10 recommend! For fic writers, legit you all are so good I'd rather attempt copying these big name authors than to even try to be like you!

- I have a blast writing Boba stories - there’s no other way to put it. I both relate to Boba and want to be WITH him lol! I’d say the hardest to write was Consequences, and only because of the ending. I wanted so badly for it to be right and rewrote it several times before it conveyed how I wanted it to feel.

• 38: What is your most self-indulgent posted story?

- Ummm…can I say all of them? 🤣 Okay, so I really, really love writing everything I post, buuuut one of my most self-indulgent is Moth to a Flame and the one shot Hidden Desires. (That, and anyyything involving dom!Boba 🫠)

so like if we get ~ technical ~ about it, i suppose my answer should probably be steve, since i have almost twice as many fics written from steve's pov than i do eddie's. BUT i feel like that number is not an accurate representation of my feelings about it because i genuinely do LOVE writing eddie's pov too. like, writing BOTH of them is just so much fun either way, it's hard to chose one over the other in terms of which i like more. because sometimes that depends on who i'm vibing with more in the moment, or it comes down to the day too, or even the concept for the fic!

but yeah, they both just have such different headspaces and different ways of thinking and analyzing and assessing a situation and it's really fun to explore that for both of them! i love putting myself in each of their shoes to determine how they would respond to a certain situation or certain line of conversation.

🦈 Which character is the toughest to write?

toughest ooh hm. so going off of the list of character i have written for, i think i have to go with robin for this one! i love robin so much and i loove writing her - whether i'm writing as her or including her in the story - but she is the hardest for me to nail down i think. because like she's so many things, and she's got a lot of specific details about her that can very easily turn into a caricature if done wrong (i.e. her rambling, her sarcasm, her scathing insults that are delivered in affectionate ways). she walks a very fine line with some of these things, and finding that line can be tricky!

i think it will get easier to do the more i write her, so it's just something i have to work on, but yeah, she's probably one of the tougher ones for me!

💛 What is the most impactful lesson you’ve learned about writing?

ohhh love this one! i think one of the most impactful lessons i've learned about writing is that self-indulgence really is the greatest thing to embrace. like, i know that the reason a person writes is different for everybody, but for me personally, i write because it's fun to me. i write because i have a story to tell. i write because there's a scenario i want to see my favorite characters in.

obviously, i LOVE the validation i get from posting my works and sharing them with people, and that does play a huge role in it too, but first and foremost i write for myself. so embracing the things i like and the things i want to see - no matter how niche they are - makes alllllll the difference in the world in my works!! doing that means that i can have fun with my fics, i can write the things i want to see and know that i'm making myself happy with it! it means that writing is easier for me to do because i'm doing what i want to do, not what i feel like i have to do, yknow?

and the best part about being self-indulgent with your writing is that not only does it benefit you as the writer, but it benefits the readers too. because, like, when you come across those totally and completely self indulgent fics it is SOO obvious that the writer enjoyed themselves while writing it! it is SOO obvious that the writer had fun with the fic! it is SOO obvious that the trope or topic or detail included is something important to the writer, something that they care about deeply, something they're passionate about!! and seeing that - recognizing that the writer had fun and enjoyed themselves and indulged, that makes it sooo much more enjoyable to read.

so yeah, my biggest piece of advice to any writer out there is to be as self-indulgent as possible!! it's the best thing you can do!!

Possessive yandere: Some can be extremely possessive and just see the darling as theirs, while others go beyond that and see their darling as an actual possession rather than their own person. Their darling is just an object that belongs to them, all thoughts and feelings mean little to nothing. (10/10)

Delusional yandere: Opposite of a lucid one. These types of yanderes believe that their darling actually loves them. Hits or insults will go over their heads and they'll be unable to understand that their darling genuinely hates them. (8/10)

Ok so lots of su thoughts, but first off I wanna say it was sooo good and I like a lot of the characters so honestly it's hard to choose my favorites😫. The lore is also really interesting, especially the whole concept of fusions and learning the initial roles for each gem and how their creation affects them.

I went in not expecting to like the diamonds that much but I loved blue from the start, and I can kinda understand why pearl chased pink for thousands of years tbh. But white gives me the most sadistic yandere potential ideas, I gotta start writing atp😮‍💨

Jasper is my still my fave even after seeing the movie and future🫣 Idk it’s just something about her strength and disdain for organics that’s enraptured me body and soul😍 she can bully me anytime (also malachite is a pretty cool fusion😆)

Omg yes, every gem is special in their own way,I get what you mean. Like I started watching it after I saw Blue Diamond in a youtube video and I just immediately fell for her (her voice actress ohhh oooooh... And that scene where she scolds Pink... Oooooh... I want to be scolded by her, just treated like a precious little pet 🥺🥺) but she doesn't appear until way into the series - in the meantime I developed a huge crush on Peridot (she is just so so cute), Jasper (Jasper is Jasper lol, she is simply amazing 🫣) and just... always felt so heartbroken for Pearl etc etc. SU feels so bittersweet a lot of the time, it's such a great show and the characters are wonderful. I can't even decide on my top three, but Blue is just my wife. Always. Jasper is definitely top three as well, but the third place? Idk soooo many gems that could fill that one... Like, I love the pearls and the diamonds, Spinel etc etc 😂 And yeah, I wish we would have had more lore in the show!! It's the one thing I missed in Future. Homeworld is just so interesting 🥰 haha sorry for rambling 🫣 I'm just so excited

Also, fun fact: my very first fic was a Poly!Diamonds/Reader, that's how much I adore these three 😂 It was/is super fluffy and self-indulgent. Good old times haha.

Part Two of reflections on my personal fic journey:

There are some fic that are easier to re-read than others, and in comparison to Blame It On The Boys, Sweetly Burns the Evergreen was a tough one for me. In general, I don't tend to revisit fic, unless it's for revision, beta-reading, or inspiration, but in glancing through, I was struck by a few things.

As my longest fic to date (173k), I feel like I learned quite a lot about my creative process. My favorite - and easiest - parts were when I wrote different characters and perspectives than I did in the prequel fic. Lily was a delight, as were toddler Harry and Draco, and Lyall and Peter weren't as challenging as I thought they would be (although Snape was). Writing Sirius as a former rock musician turned wandering dharma bum was fun too, even/especially when he engaged in questionable behavior. As you may have noticed from the mood board above, he took on the appearance of Adam Ant in my mind for some reason; maybe it was the cheekbones that did it. :D

On the flip side, I may have relied too heavily on flashbacks and memories to fill in backstory, and I could have put more effort into OCs and certain aspects of the plot. I worked an ungodly amount of music and history references into it, including but not limited to punk rock, New Wave, and John Lennon's death. I don't particularly mind this as a writing device, but it can feel a bit self-indulgent after a while. The songs I chose for chapter headings also felt haphazard at times, an area in which I believe I've improved since.

Regardless of its faults, I've decided to include a short, mildly NSFW excerpt below the cut, from an earlier chapter. If longer fics are not for you, fear not, there are plenty of shorter ones to choose from, with and without smut. :)

“Listen to you, being the reasonable one.” Sirius’s mouth is half-quirked, so close, and Remus suddenly can’t think of anything else but the feeling of Sirius’s hand, warm upon his upper arm. It’s dizzying, and he shuts his eyes for a brief moment, only to open them upon the sight of Sirius leaning in toward him, his intent clear in his darkened eyes.

The meeting of their lips feels like the cheer of an audience left waiting too long for the headliners to appear, just like the pressure of Sirius’s mouth opening to his, accompanied by the softest of sighs, feels like an opening salvo of chords.

“Ohhh.” His voice is a whisper on the way to becoming a moan, and his hand climbs to the back of Remus’s neck, stroking along the short, velvety hairs there until Remus is left shivering. “I have missed this so, so much.”

His body is in fervent agreement, and truthfully, in that moment his heart agrees too, but then his mind pipes up with a warning about Jake, and how it’s less than a week before he’ll be returning from Majorca with Leo, and the thought of disappointing them brings Remus back to earth with a bump. 

“Padfoot, wait.” He wrenches himself away from the kiss, every part of him screaming in protest, and scrambles to his feet. “I think we’re getting ahead of ourselves.”

“Moony?” Sirius comes to his feet in turn, hands brushing automatically at dusty trousers. “Did I do something wrong?”

15. What’s your favorite AU that you’ve written?

ohhh my god unfortunately my favorite aus are all still wips. like i love tattoo au but like. well i think as far as concept goes my favorite au is the 90 day fiance au where jack, rose, and thirteen are stuck in england and the tardis is stuck in the us and instead of like. doing anything that makes logical sense they're like "okay well we're immortal anyway so we might as well take our good sweet time" and they do a series of green card marriages (jack poses as a us citizen, he marries rose, rose gets her citizenship and divorces him and then marries thirteen) and they go on 90 day fiance. the story is told through episode transcripts and news articles and such and i haven't figured out how to execute it yet but i want to show the audience like. slowly figuring out that these guys are weird. (i also want to set it like. just after covid lockdowns start to ease up so i can have an exchange in one of the episodes like "how were we supposed to know there was going to be a pandemic? it's not like we're time travelers" because of course they are time travelers and they just didn't remember)

my other favorite au (also a wip) is this like. thirteenyazrose thing that started as a fake dating au where rose is like. being hit on at work and thirteen is a new hire who comes up and is like "hey get away from my girlfriend" but like she does her threatening little growl But Also rose and yaz have been dating for years and so when rose tells this to yaz yaz is like "okay well if she's pretending to date one of us she's got to pretend to date both of us" and everything snowballs from there. this one also involves the pandemic because i was thinking about how canon yaz and rose both spend a lot of time away from the doctor and i think it would be interesting to adapt that to a human au by having the doctor be doing some kind of study abroad and not be able to come back on time. but this one has like a ton of prequel material of yaz and rose getting together but all of it is like. really rough around the edges and self-indulgent and not really like. in good shape yet to publish. and i'm having to rewrite the single chapter i had of the main fic because i remembered about making rose a mechanic. so now it's going to be where rose and human thirteen are mechanics and yaz is an emt. but like this au is my favorite because it's like. a comfort fic at this point it just is like a little home to me so i don't know when i'll ever post it but i do love it

31. What’s your ideal fic length to write?

ough this has actually changed in the last year! i used to mostly write shorter stuff, but lately i've had a ton of trouble keeping anything short, everything i've written has expanded a ton. which i think is a good thing, i've been adding a lot more depth and detail to my works. like at one point i looked at like. a first kiss that i wrote when i was fourteen and compared it to a more recent one and literally the more recent one was like. whole paragraphs longer. which might also tell you how many people i'd kissed at fourteen but anyway. i've been enjoying the really long fics, my current long wip (tattoo au, aka when i run away (you're who i run to)) is at 75k and counting. but those fics do require a lot of commitment-- i love writing that length but i can only sustain one at a time and there's always a risk that i'll lose interest in it or ability to write it partway through. i've been trying to finish stuff or at least write super far ahead before i post too. so anyway i think my ideal length for like. regular posting is somewhere in the... 7-20k range? long enough that it feels meaty but not so long that it takes a huge commitment to write.

ohhh yes. nothing hits me harder than like, very little moments, where a character is just sitting and looking at another character and thinking about how beautiful they are or how in love with they are. little affectionate things too, like headbutting or rubbing their thumb over the others knuckles. its the quiet affection. the yearning

i dont have the time to go through it rn but basically all of hold me accountable is comedy gold imo halquius is such an underrated ship their dynamic can be so goddamn funny when you let it be and it was a lot of fun to really lean into how weird hal and equius are and how they work despite and because of it. its got a lot of great lines i always feel inordinately proud of myself reading through it again

⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped?

oh yeah, loads. i think i got the furthest with the davkat godstuck fic, though. it was supposed to be set in the aspec aspects verse and focus more on the creation of the gods and the way dave and karkat evolved over the years and grew closer, but eventually it got to a point where it felt too ooc and flowery, and i lost steam. it had some good parts in it and things that i liked, but ultimately i decided itd never be something i posted.

because ive talked abt hs a lot, the most recent fic i scrapped was a jason dent one sort of playing with the idea of jason being undead from the lazarus pit and surviving things that shouldve been fatal, and harvey and talia trying to navigate helping him heal. it felt too all over the place and im not actually a huge fan of hurt/comfort so i wound up scrapping it. it didnt contribute anything to the actual jd storyline i was writing and wouldnt have been canon to it, and it just felt too far removed. sometimes i think im already pushing the envelope too far with self indulgent fics and weird hcs and i just have to shut down projects that go further bc i dont think anyone would read them lmao
