Open API's Arazzo and overlay specifications
The OpenAPI Specification OAS and its Open API Initiative (OAI)—the governing body—have been around for 10 years, and of course, OAS’s foundation, Swagger, has been around a lot longer. OpenAPI is very much a mature proposition. But the OAI community hasn’t stood still. Two standards have been developed, the first being Overlays and the latter being Arazzo. Overlays Overlays support the Arazzo…

Tumblr.js is back!
Hello Tumblr—your friendly neighborhood Tumblr web developers here. It’s been a while!
Remember the official JavaScript client library for the Tumblr API? tumblr.js? Well, we’ve picked it up, brushed it off, and released a new version of tumblr.js for you.
Having an official JavaScript client library for the Tumblr API means that you can interact with Tumblr in wild and wonderful ways. And we know as well as anybody how important it is to foster that kind of creativity.
Moving forward, this kind of creativity is something we’re committed to supporting. We’d love to hear about how you’re using it to build cool stuff here on Tumblr!
Some highlights:
NPF post creation is now supported via the createPost method.
The bundled TypeScript type declarations have been vastly improved and are generated from source.
Some deprecated dependencies with known vulnerabilities have been removed.
Intrigued? Have a look at the changelog or read on for more details.
Migrating
v4 includes breaking changes, so if you’re ready to upgrade to from a previous release, there are a few things to keep in mind:
The callback API has been deprecated and is expected to be removed in a future version. Please migrate to the promise API.
There is no need to use returnPromises (the method or the option). A promise will be returned when no callback is provided.
createPost is a new method for NPF posts.
Legacy post creation methods have been deprecated.
createLegacyPost is a new method with the same behavior as createPost in previous versions (rename createPost to createLegacyPost to maintain existing behavior).
The legacy post creation helpers like createPhotoPost have been removed. Use createLegacyPost(blogName, { type: 'photo' }).
See the changelog for detailed release notes.
What’s in store for the future?
We'll continue to maintain tumblr.js, but we’d like to hear from you. What do you want? How can we provide the tools for you to continue making cool stuff that makes Tumblr great?
Let us know right here or file an issue on GitHub.
Some questions for you:
We’d like to improve types to make API methods easier to use. What methods are most important to you?
Are there API methods that you miss?
Tumblr.js is a Node.js library, would you use it in the browser to build web applications?

Project update
In June, when I started the jolt-jni open-source software project, I considered it a subsidiary project. However, it proved so absorbing that it soon soaked up most of my attention, leaving little for all my other projects.
This is surprising, since unlike most of my projects, it has no graphical component (yet) meaning no satisfying CGI images to enjoy (and perhaps share on social media).
Also unlike most of my projects, I was coding it from scratch, yet constrained by a preexisting API. In practice, that meant writing a ton of boring boilerplate. Prior to this I'd been scornful of the idea of using AI to generate code. But for generating boilerplate code, I can see that mechanical aids have their place.
Now that the library is about 80% complete, I've turned more of my attention to testing. My progress (measured in lines of code) is much slower. Some days I delete more code than I add. The good news is, I enjoy troubleshooting far more than coding.
For the record, here are the current statistics:
+ 1472 commits
+ Overall 48K lines of code (excluding comments and blanks)
+ 29K lines of Java (including 8K lines of tests and examples)
+ 17K lines of C++

uuuh also i just realized that you can edit tags now in the browser version??? like, you can edit them AFTER you type them and hit "enter"???? that is such a good update that i'm almost tempted to go back to using the browser version more often than the app. (almost.)

just found out that skycrypt is backed up occasionally on the wayback machine, so of course i went to go check techno's stuff. neat little thing i found, by april 9th 2021 he hadnt made it past thorn in dungeons. so he was cutting it CLOSE cramming in catacombs exp for the resistance fight jhdkjfj (turned out to be useless anyways)
Tumblr media
also, judging by his exp gained, seems like he was only running with one other person. i was under the impression he had a full party the entire time bc of his video but that must've just been for later floors or maybe even JUST floor 7
Tumblr media
and also. before the resistance fight. his highest crit damage was a WHOPPING... 82k

new coding challenge
Software coding is a highly creative pursuit. But for the past few years, I've put most of my software effort into maintenance and troubleshooting. I've written *some* new code, of course, but a lot of that was for demos and tests. I'd begun thinking of myself as primarily a maintainer, not an innovator.
For the past 6 weeks, however, I've focused on writing a new open-source library from scratch. So far, it's 7,000 lines of Java and 5,000 lines of C++ (excluding blank lines and comments).
Sustaining 250+ lines per day is possible only because a lot of what I'm writing is boilerplate requiring scant creativity. At this point, the design is mostly set. The API is closely based on another project. The biggest challenge has been boredom.
That's why on 11 July (when Gradle v8.9 was released) I pounced on the opportunity to upgrade all my projects, even though it was boring, routine maintenance. At least it was a different flavor of boring.
I look forward to finishing this phase of the project and getting back to maintenance and troubleshooting.

Chrome on mobile doesn't allow add ons. If something didn't change, Kiwi is the only chrome-based browser with add on support. Firefox on mobile allows add ons (it's a small collectionbto chose from but the most important add ons are supported)
And what is possibly the most important in this day and age: Firefox implememts the security and safety features from Tor browser.

The most popular browsers in different countries in 2012 and 2022.
