MY SHIPS AND THEIR MOODBOARDS (PT 7)

Caroline Pevensie and Prince Caspian. Caroline is the younger sister of the Pevensie siblings. She and her younger sister, Grace Pevensie, were left behind by their siblings. They, luckily, were blessed by Aslan and could age at the rate of their siblings as time went on. But Prince Caspian did not like Caroline as he saw her as a rival. She doesn't see him that way but despises him because of how mean he is to her. Eventually, they both fall for each other 

Victoria Braveheart and Edmund Pevensie. Victoria is the best friend of Caroline so she hates what Edmund and their siblings did to Caroline and Grace. However, when Edmund and the rest of the Pevensie's come back, Edmund begins to fall for her. She ignores him the best that she can but she then starts to fall for him. 

Kaylynn Hayes and Clifford Hayes. In Storybrooke, Kaylynn and Roger are childhood sweethearts. They have been best friends since they were six and they fell in love shortly after Kaylynn turned 18. Their fairytale story is that they met via their dogs. 

Claire Gold and Everett Terry. In Storybrooke, they were friends that slowly fell in love when they weren't expecting it. Their fairytale story is that they met when he broke into her tower and he helped her figure out what the yearly lights on her birthday were. 

Lucas Scott and Heather Sawyer. Heather has had a crush on Lucas ever since she was a little girl. They even dated in middle school. But then he broke up with her out of the blue, never citing a reason why. She became a shell of who she was, especially when she saw her sister and Lucas kissing. 

Kate Scott and Peyton Sawyer. Kate and Peyton have been best friends since they were young. Kate realized her feelings for Peyton when she was seven but she knew that nothing would come of it. However, she didn't know that Peyton was hiding her feelings towards her best friend as well. 

Tara Diaz and Cami Pendleton. Cami and Tara have been best friends since they were babies. When they began their relationship at 16, no one really noticed as they had thought that the two had been dating for a long time. 

Grace Roberts and Seth Cohen. Grace has had a crush on Seth ever since she can remember but she hasn't done anything about it because she knows how much he loves Summer. Hell, he named his boat after her. So she decides to move on but because of this, she changes and he notices this. She eventually breaks up with her boyfriend to tell Seth about her feelings but then Summer comes to her and tells her about Seth and her, breaking her twin's heart. She finds herself shutting down and ignoring everyone around her. When Summer and Seth break up, Seth comes to her, asking why she has been distant. At first, she's pissed that it took him this long to realize that something was wrong but then she kissed him in the heat of the moment and that changed their relationship forever. 

Paige Salazar and Atticus Williams. They didn't even know each other but when Atticus's girlfriend went off to find one Percy Jackson, he got upset and Paige was there. They hooked up and then they fell in love. 

Lola Riera and Brooke Pepper. Brooke and Lola had grown up together. When they were eight, they both realized that they were demigods and ran away to Camp Half-blood. They were each other's constant support.

We were a bunch of strangers traveling on a caravan through the giant desert that makes up the continent we are on. We’ve been through a handful of decent sized missions since our first goblin attack. 

Our party has been in the underdark for a while now. We were summoned by Svirfneblin named Pip to save the city of Gem Bright. We made it after several days (roll to see who you cuddle with), we ended up finding out that oozes have been murdering towns members and set off further into the caves, and found walls completely covered in runelike drawings of eyes. 

That led us to a drow who we ended up killing (she was a bitch) and found a freaky chamber with little oozes books and a bowl of eyes. So we used the drow’s eyes to accidentally summon a very bad Ooze. it  saw itself as the physical embodiment of Jubilex and, humble brag: I got to kill it.

…On occasion we remember we’re a band.

Reykja crossed the sea from her continent to look for her teacher who was taken by the drow. She’s a rogue who doesn’t like to steal (except for liquor) and normally ends up covered in something awful by the end of a boss fight.  Tries to keep lil cutie in line, and quite often fails. 

Demetria is spreading seeds from the dead wood she came from (with the ability to restore her spells by having sex with people, we get it Faye). Has a staff that can turn into a 60 foot tree. Her owl LaLuna is not a snowy owl despite the fact that we always forget. 

Daedric is our teenage cleric who is the only party member not in the chaotic alignment. He likes to protect others, and leaves a false gold token to honor the dead. Now has a tree mom and an elf mom, and can do no wrong in their eyes. He is a very kind and patient person, but does not put up with lil cutie’s shit.

Lil Cutie is a very intelligent, incredibly uncharismatic, 5 year old Goblin. She’s been traveling with Reykja for months before they met with the other two. Constantly devastated that we are often fighting ‘wee folk’, loves to loot immediately, hates to share. She left home because she sucks at quilting and her mother got pushed off a cliff.

Who read Sweet Valley High? As in... the original books?

I was about ten years old when I started to read them and they’d been out since about ‘82 or ‘83.  (Pro-tip, I was born in ‘78.)  I’ve spent the past couple days reading over a synopsis of all the books and they really haven’t stood the test of time (they’re absolutely ridiculous) but when I was a kid, they were great.

Anyhoo... I wanted to do Sims interpretations of the characters I loved and of course, you have to start with the Wakefield twins, Elizabeth and Jessica.

In the books they are identical but I wanted to give them a few subtle differences.

My Favorite Movies & TV Shows About Sisters

I already did a list of my favorite movies and tv shows about best friends. As I was compiling that list, a number of movies and shows about sisters popped into my head. I didn’t include them because I thought, “Well, they’re sisters, not friends.” So, now I present a list of my favorite movies and TV shows about sisters!

10. Switched at Birth

Switched at Birth is about two teen girls who discover they were switched at birth. They both choose to meet their biological families and become forever connected. Though Bay and Daphne are not actually sisters, they become sisters as they now share parents, siblings, and homes. They come from different walks of life. Bay is wealthy while Daphne was raised by a single working Latina mother. What’s especially great is the inclusion of deaf and hard of hearing leads and the use of sign language.

9. Sense & Sensibility

Pride & Prejudice is usually the most popular of Jane Austen’s novels (and movie adaptations), but I personally like Sense & Sensibility more. The 90′s version has an excellent cast that includes Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman. Marianne Dashwood (Winslet) is the hopeless romantic who wears her heart out on her sleeve. Sensible, dutiful Elinor (Thompson) keeps all her feelings to herself. They fall in love, have their hearts broken, and have each other’s backs even if they don’t totally understand each other.

8. Fuller House

The original Full House is a better show than Fuller House, but I like the female trio of DJ, Stephanie, and Kimmy in the sequel series. Kimmy isn’t a sister, but she essentially becomes one of their sisters and officially Stephanie’s sister-in-law. They all have their different personalities that align with the original male trio in Full House. DJ is the goody-goody, slightly OCD supermom (Danny). Stephanie is the fun loving aunt (Uncle Jesse). Kimmy is the wacky best friend (Joey). We get to see them go on girl nights out, plan parties, serve as bridesmaids, and more. Full House may be the classic, but I think Fuller House is more fun.

7. Charmed

I haven’t seen the new reboot of Charmed, so this is about the 90s-00s version. I’ll admit the current drama between the two casts has left a sour taste in my mouth. But the original show was one I looked forward to watching with my two sisters each week. We loved that each sister had their own distinct magical power and their own successful careers. I preferred when Shannen Doherty was in the cast as oldest sister Prue over Rose McGowan’s Paige. But watching either trio combat demons while navigating their love lives was good entertainment.

6. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Even though To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is mainly a rom-com about Lara Jean’s love life, it’s also a sweet story about sisters. The sister relationships were especially wonderful in the books, and one of the things I really loved about it. We see even though Lara Jean has had some sadness in her life, she is supported by her loving family. It’s nice that they are not jealous of each other or resentful towards one another. They may bicker from time to time, but ultimately the love between the three of them is clear.

5. 10 Things I Hate About You

One of my favorite movies of all time! Just like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, 10 Things I Hate About You is a rom-com that happens to feature a great sister relationship. Kat and Bianca are total opposites. Kat is anti-social while Bianca is a social butterfly. In the beginning we see resentment between the two due to their differences in personality. Bianca thinks Kat is a bitch. Kat thinks Bianca is shallow and conceited. But by the end they grow to respect each other. We see that Kat is actually a very strong, driven, independent woman. Bianca grows from a spoiled rich girl to someone who sees past vanity and stands up for her sister. Also, Heath Ledger.

4. Wish Upon a Star

Someone brilliant took the concept of Freaky Friday and applied it to sisters. The younger bookworm sister swaps bodies with her older, popular sister. While in each other’s bodies, they both grow into better people as they walk in the other’s shoes. The younger sister becomes more confident. The older sister becomes less superficial and a better student. They both learn to like themselves for who they are and grow closer as they have to rely on each other to switch back.

3. Hocus Pocus

In the spirit of Halloween, I had to include the Sanderson Sisters. Even though this movie isn’t exactly about sisters, it features one of the best sister trios ever. Winnie is the bossy one, Mary has hound dog-like sniffing abilities, and Sarah is the sexy airhead. They are so entertaining and funny. Classic!

2. Little Women

I haven’t seen the newest version of Little Women -- though I really want to. The 90′s version was one of my all time favorite movies. It had an all star cast with Winona Rider as feisty Jo, Claire Danes as shy Beth, Kirsten Dunst as young Amy, Christian Bale as boy next door Laurie, and Susan Sarandon as Marmie. They are all wonderful. We see the sisters play together, fight, and grow up. It sticks pretty close to the book, and it has a warm, charming Christmas vibe to it. Now I just have to see the new one!

1. Sister Sister

Two identical twins discover they were separated as babies after being adopted by different people. They find each other again and move in together. Tia is studious while Tamera is a party girl. They have a pesky little neighbor to deal with along with other high school adventures. Their parents, especially Tia’s mom Lisa Landry, are hilarious. Sister Sister was just a really cool show.

Selina Claire Mitchell

Selina is the twin sister of Sophie (@waltersxmitchell​) and together with her the eldest of the Mitchell Siblings, shes never really had the identity crisis that some twins do as they get older. After they were born they shared a nursery with their own mini cribs. When Selina insisted on continuously orbing into her sister's crib and wouldn’t stop eventually Paige just rolled with it, selling the two mini cribs and getting a normal-sized one; the girls seemed to sleep better together anyway and so her and Henry’s sanity thanked them.

As they got older and were transitioned into toddler bed’s and able to understand directions a little better, they taught them that they needed to stay in their own beds and sleep on their own. Eventually, they started listening but would occasionally still ended up sleeping in the same bed. As they grew up they became more independent, their parents making sure that it never became an issue by insisting they be indifferent classrooms starting in Daycare and on.

As they got older they were supposed to get their own room, but the Paige ended up pregnant with Henry Jr and it was just easier to keep them in the same room. Eventually they ended up with a few more siblings; 1 teen who was 4 years older than her twin’s and a charge of hers who had been adopted and was kicked out when they learned of the boys witch powers at 16, 2 siblings who were the 5 & 6-year-old children of one of her witch charges and 1 human preteen that Henry had met through work. Her parents were given help from the elders when they began taking in the magical children, both in getting a larger home and keeping up with expenses for the now 7 children they had.

Even though Selina wanted out of the house as soon as humanly possible, once it came to her having to means to actually leave she couldn’t bring herself to do it. Instead, she stayed and used the excuse of school and planning on leaving afterward, in reality, she didn’t want to leave her parents to deal with the 4 still teenage children on their own. Currently, she is in school for a double major in Psychology and Political Science with plans to minor in Early Childhood Development, with plans to use her degrees as an advocate for those who need help.

I don’t know how much insight this gives but It’s from the 40s, my grandfather was of irish descent, and they were a military family. Hopefully this helps! My grandfather’s family grew up in Florida. I don’t know if that helps but, eh? Thank you!!!

A: Thank you, that does help. I still can’t find much information, but Felinda and Falinda appear to be a surnames. Maternal surnames were often passed down to sons, to carry on the name, so it makes sense that it would be a masculine name. That being said, even as a surname, it appears to be incredibly rare. As I said in my last reply, there’s an indication that it could be related to the surname Flindt, which refers to flint, a hard stone. Sorry that I cannot find more information on the name. I’ll keep an eye out though, and see if anything pops up that might help me research even deeper!

The Good Doctor Season 1 Review

ABC’s newest hit, The Good Doctor has taken audiences by storm, especially those within the Autism community. 

While on its’ second season, I wanted to take some time to review season one as I had recently purchased and watched all 18 episodes in its’ entirety. 

Story & Characters 

As the titular character, Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) is a surgical resident at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital with Autism and Savant Syndrome who’s able to perform miracles and procedures traditional medical staff has no idea how he thought of being able to do. Dr. Arron Glassman (Richard Schiff) is the hospital’s president and has been a caretaker of Shaun for most of his life and sees the gifts he (Shaun) possesses. People like Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) have their doubts that someone with Autism is able to perform tasks at the level a surgeon should be able to, but Glassman adamantly defends Shaun to the point where after seeing a YouTube video of Shaun using everyday items to save a young boy’s life in an airport, they leave the executives no other alternative but to hire Shaun but with one major caveat: If Shaun doesn’t perform to the abilities that Dr. Glassman believes he can, then Glassman will step down as president of the hospital and Shaun will be let go. 

Once hired and brought in, he isn’t received well, especially by head surgeon Neil Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez) but finds support in Dr. Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas) and Dr. Jared Kalu (Chuku Modu)and learns to communicate with not only his fellow residents, but also patients, even if Shaun comes off a bit brash at first. Shaun learns with the help of the other residents to communicate. 

Then we get to his quasi-love interest and friend Lea (Paige Spara). Lea becomes a sign of comfort for Shaun as she becomes the only person to see Shaun and accept him outright without any judgment, even if their first conversation ends up in her wanting to borrow batteries for her gaming controller. The two hit it off immediately and through Claire, Shaun learns how to flirt with Lea and pick up on her cues. Lea even gets Shaun to play hooky from work and take a road trip with her in episodes 11 and 12 which were two of my personal favorites from season one and the two share their first kiss. 

Afterwards, Lea leaves for Hershey, PA to work on cars which devastates Shaun to no end as she was a genuine friend who saw Shaun for Shaun. 

After Lea leaves, he gets a new neighbor in Kenny (Chris D’Elia) who gave me a weird vibe from the start. While he seemed genuine to start off, we soon learn of his true intentions and even Dr. Kalu hones Shaun in on who Kenny really is which shows Shaun that Kenny isn’t a good person and people like Dr. Kalu are looking out for him. 

Also after Lea’s departure, we get two new residents to the team. One is Dr. Alex Park (Will Yun Lee) and the other being Dr. Morgan Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann). While Dr. Park seems more level-headed, Dr. Reznick is flat out blunt and comes off as selfish and more of a bully than anything. 

The kinds of operations and patients the cast meet are an interesting bunch. Everyone from a severe Autistic teenager to an e-gamer who hides his cancer and even conjoined twins are shown to not only give the audience a perspective, but also the hospital staff themselves a reflective perspective about themselves at times. The show rounds out a variant of patients which is a great thing to see as we see a lot of challenges put in front of the team, especially Shaun and finds unique ways to overcome said challenges and save patients’ lives. 

While I won’t ruin the ending of the season, I will say it’s one that sticks with you until the very final moments of the last episode and asks a lot of questions concerning the future of major players within the hospital. 

Final Thoughts 

Season one not only introduces a wide-range of characters with diverse backstories as well as diverse patients and cases for the doctors, but it also shows that even if you have a disability, anything and everything is possible. Dr. Murphy pulls off the autistic mannerisms to sheer perfection and braces head on for any and every challenge he has to encounter not only professionally, but personally as well.
