I wanna write a FMA x Naruto crossover where it's Hokage Minato + ANBU Kakashi dimension travelling to FMA. The FMA lads are like... that's a whole ass child! wdym he's one of your best soldiers???
But my current fic absolutely takes priority :sobbing:
Kakashi, completely deferring to Minato to do anything, even speaking, because they're in a foreign land and Hokage always comes first: Minato-sensei is amazing! He killed a thousand Iwa-nin :D
Minato: of course I can't compete with Kakashi, he graduated at 5, you know hehe I'm so proud, I was only on the field at 10...
FMA: what the f u ck
Summons... work? Kind of? Kakashi tries to summon Pakkun but it drains both him and Pakkun and Pakkun can't actually go back to Narutoverse because there's no other summoners with the dog contract to anchor onto, so Minato's toads are the only option.
They can't reverse summon because the distance between the two dimensions is so crazy far that it would kill them both with chakra exhaustion, but Minato can send a message through the frogs like, "1. I'm not dead, 2. Shikaku's in charge until I come back, 3. Jiraiya's gotta come back to the village ASAP and stay and advise, 4. Don't listen to any other council (because he's still trying to sort it out), 5. if you need to make any difficult decisions: DON'T, either send me a message for me to reply or delay it until I'm back."
FMA: freaking out cos that's talking animals - chimeras???? but also not?????
The ninjas should absolutely not have any trouble in the FMAverse - both of them have feats which put them faster than light so they absolutely could just... slap a bullet away with a chakra enhanced palm.
Maybe Obito can climb through Kakashi's eye because he went on a complete and utter freak-out when he realises Kakashi's gone and it results in a fight where he's absolutely trying to kill Minato for taking Kakashi away and Kakashi fighting him because he's attacking Minato-sensei and it's a huge-ass mess because they're fighting in a way which is absolutely devastating compared to alchemists.
Obito is sprouting Mokuton everywhere and phasing through attacks and Kakashi is taking hits that would absolutely kill a regular person (because shinobi are crazy durable) and bringing out all the elements and Minato is teleporting around like it's nothing.
The fight ends with Minato putting a kunai to Kakashi's throat cos he figures out that Kakashi is the bottom line and it actually works to make Obito stop attacking.
Minato's all, "as the Yondaime Hokage, I'm commanding you to stand down, Uchiha Obito." and Kakashi's standing there with Minato-sensei's kunai pressing hard enough to draw blood like, "Minato-sensei?" and Obito actually stops and just falls to his knees and says, "I think there's something wrong with me, help me please, Minato-sensei." And their return to their og world gets delayed because they have to figure out exactly to what extent the seal on Obito's heart is influencing him and how to remove it. FMA world needs to contend with the fact that it's not Just Kakashi that's like that, but it's legit the entire world that's pumping out children who kill and die.
When Obito starts losing himself to the rage Kakashi just holds him by the hand and in the smallest voice ever, just says, "don't be angry, Obito, please."
Kakashi & Obito being super traumatised and just holding hands, constantly...
It's a fix-it fic :) Obito, no longer under the influence of the seal returns to Konoha, cos of that, there's no Kyuubi attack and Minato continues on with being Hokage and butterfly effects Konoha into a better place.
I just wanna see my boys heal and also be absolute BEASTS in other dimensions...

Small Comfort
Words: 2,349
AU: Boxer Kakashi AU
For: @mintehz
Hospitals were either eerily quiet or painfully noisy. There was never an in between. It was a fact of hospitals Gai had learned when he was a young boy sitting by his Papa’s beside as his life slowly faded from him.
Back then he’d thought that the hospital was just like that because it was all he could focus on. That he was missing those nice middle points where there was a little bit of noise outside the room. His mind was swimming with fears at the time, so he could forgive himself for missing something as small as some outside noise.
That wasn’t the case though.
Over the years Gai had been to the hospital three other times. The first visit was for his arm after he’d taken a spill on the ice and one of his teammates failed to stop before they collided with him. That day the hospital had been so noisy he’d gotten a migraine and forgot all about the searing pain in his arm that had occupied all his attention before.
The second visit was when Genma got into a car crash and Gai was still his emergency contact. He’d come barrelling into his friend’s hospital room, barely noticing any of the nurses or doctor’s standing just outside. That day the hospital could have very well been a morgue with how quiet it was.
The third time, this time, the noise in the hallways was almost deafening. There was someone screaming every five seconds, doctor’s calling out orders, nurses yelling at each other from across the hospital. Even in the safety of a private hospital room with the door closed, Gai couldn’t get even a second of quiet.
His head was splitting, and he wasn’t even the one in the hospital.
“Your timing is superb,” he grumbled, eyes locked on Kakashi’s unconscious form laying in the bed beside him. “You couldn’t take a punch to the back of the head from a dirty fighter tomorrow? Or yesterday? Maybe a week from tomorrow? Any time other than today.”
Any time that was quieter than right now.
Kakashi didn’t respond. Not that Gai expected him to. He’d passed out in the ring as soon as his opponent’s punch had connected with the back of his head. It wasn’t possible for an unconscious man to respond, so he’d have to be satisfied with a one-sided conversation.
“Woof!”
Looking over at the end of the bed where Pakkun had been sitting for the past two hours staring at Kakashi, waiting patiently for something to happen, Gai frowned. He’d known Kakashi and Pakkun for just over a year, and in all that time he’d never once seen the pug bark at anything.
“Woof!”
“Alright,” slapping his hands down against his knees he pushed himself upward and took three short steps to the end of the bed. “we can’t have that. Someone might start thinking Kakashi’s in trouble and-well, he is but…you know what I mean.”
Staring straight up at him, Pakkun tilted his head in that way dogs do when they’re confused or curious about something.
“don’t give me that,” he sighed. “what’s up?”
“Woof!”
“That doesn’t explain much,” glancing back over at Kakashi, he waited for a minute. Just stood there staring, as if that would make Kakashi wake up. When that didn’t happen, he sighed. “you’re the one who always knows what’s on his mind. I can’t do anything for him.”
“Cofe-44!” A scream came through the door and a sharp pain ran through Gai’s head. covering his ears, he pressed his thumbs into the space just above his temples.
“woof!” Pakkun started up again, but this time he was standing up and staring straight at the door with the convictions of a dog who was about to rip someone’s throat out.
He’d only seen Pakkun like this one other time. Months ago when Kakashi was in the midst of a panic attack and some journalist wouldn’t give him the space he was asking for. Gai had thought he was going to have to step in to protect Kakashi then, but before he could even move Pakkun jumped into action.
Just like now.
Except this time, it wasn’t Kakashi he was protecting. Kakashi wasn’t being hurt by the noise.
“Me?” he asked, his lips tugging upwards into a soft smile as Pakkun continued to stare at the door. “Are you doing this for me?”
The pug doesn’t answer. He doesn’t even look Gai’s way, but instead continues standing there at the end of Kakashi’s bed staring at the door. Gai could almost swear he’s ready to jump up and fight someone to get his message across, though Gai’s sure he wouldn’t do that.
As protective as Pakkun was, he was also smart. He’d know the only thing that would come out of attacking someone would be his removal from the hospital, leaving Kakashi without his service dog by his side when he finally woke up.
That wasn’t a risk Pakkun or Gai was willing to take.
“Come here,” stretching his arms out, he watched as Pakkun turned his head to stare up at him. For a moment the two of them just stood there like that. Pakkun sitting comfortably in his spot staring up at Gai with soft brown eyes, and Gai standing in front of him with his arms stretched out in offering.
Then, with the same annoyed huff he always gave Kakashi when he told him he had to get off his shoulder, Pakkun turned to face Gai and jumped.
Catching the pug in his arms was no problem. As soon as his paws came down against his chest Gai closed his arms around his tiny body and grinned down at him. “See?” he chuckled when Pakkun responded by bumping his head up against his chin. “You really are something. I don’t think he could ask for a better dog.”
As he spoke, he turned his attention toward Kakashi. The doctor’s had filled him in as soon as they brought Kakashi back from his MRI scan. There seemed to be no permanent damage, but they’d told him that Kakashi had a concussion. An unsurprising diagnosis, given his opponent hadn’t held back when he’d punched him.
“Some people,” he growled, immediately regretting his response when Pakkun yapped at him. “Right, I know. It’s just…” staring down at Kakashi, he sighed. He’d known what he’d signed up for when he decided to date a boxer, and he’d even been excited about it.
Cheering Kakashi on in his matches was the highlight of his days and seeing him turn to him when even he won and offer him that sweet, cheerful smile that he only ever seemed to have for him, was the most rewarding part of dating a boxer.
The worst part was these moments.
Times when Kakashi was so injured he ended up in the hospital.
If he faced more honourable people this might happen less, but it seemed at least once a month someone would get upset when Kakashi beat them and take an unfair swing at him. This time, that swing just happened to connect with the back of his head.
Just as he was starting to spiral, anger boiling deep inside of him, the noise outside Kakashi’s room picked up against and a sharp pain shot through his head. Ducking down, he squeezed his eyes shut in a desperate attempt to will away the migraine he could feel creeping up on him.
As if sensing his pain, Pakkun bumped his head against Gai’s chin once again. It hurt, but he managed to force one eye open so he could stare down at the pug, a smile creeping onto his face when he saw the concerned look in his eyes.
“It’s nothing,” he promised, wincing when that pain shot through his head again. “ok, maybe not nothing, but I’ll survive. I’m in better condition than him.” As he spoke, he nodded toward Kakashi without even looking.
“Rude.”
The weak response surprised him. Whipping his head around, he stared down at Kakashi who still lay there in his bed with his eyes shut.
“Am I hearing things?” he asked, looking back at Pakkun. “Or are you talking all of a sudden?”
Pakkun opened his mouth at that moment, just as the words “you’re ridiculous,” were spoken.
Stunned, he just stared at Pakkun. He wasn’t sure what to believe, but he was certain his boyfriend’s dog had just spoken to him.
“Are you…no,” he shakes his head, which only made the pain worse. “it’s the migraine. I’m just hearing things because of the migraine.”
“Gai,” Pakkun settled back against his hands and tilted his head, his mouth no longer moving but the voice still speaking to him. “Gai, over here.”
Blinking, he glanced back down at Kakashi. This time he was greeted with soft black eyes staring back up at him with an amused glint.
“I-“
“You thought he was talking to you?” Kakashi asked, pointing at Pakkun who quickly wiggled out of Gai’s arms and jumped back down to his side.
“I did not!” he protest, ignoring the skeptical look that both Kakashi and Pakkun gave him. “I just…never mind,” waving his arms, he tried to physically remove the topic from his presence before focusing on Kakashi again.
This time when he stared at him, it was with fondness. Even if Kakashi was teasing him, it could only be good.
Teasing meant he was awake.
He was alright.
“You look terrible.”
“I feel worse,” Kakashi assured him. Lifting his right hand, he placed it on top of Pakkun’s head. “You been watching over him while I was out? Making sure he’s staying out of trouble?”
“Well of course-“
“I was talking to Pakkun.”
The words hit like a truck. Between the two of them, himself and a pug, Kakashi trusted the pug to keep him out of trouble.
“Woof!”
Thinking back to just a few minutes ago when Pakkun was barking at the door to try and silence everyone outside, he smiled. “he’s protective.”
“You have no idea,” moving his hand down, Kakashi slipped a finger behind Pakkun’s ear and began scratching in just the right spot. At least, Gai assumed it was the right spot because as soon as Kakashi started Pakkun’s back left leg began thumping against the bed. “What’s the diagnosis?”
“A concussion,” Not wanting to interrupt, Gai sat down just behind Pakkun and watched happily as Kakashi spoiled him with ear scratches. “Doctor say’s you should keep out of the ring for about two months.”
“Two months,” Kakashi bulked. “that’s two months of wages. I can’t lose that money just because some ass hole decided he didn’t like losing.”
“it’ll only get worse if you try to go back early,” hearing someone yell outside the door, Gai placed a hand over the ear closest to the door and took a deep breath.
“Are you sure I’m the one who’s injured?” as he spoke Kakashi dropped his hand down to the bed and slowly pushed himself up, so he was sitting face to face with Gai. “You look like you’re in more pain than me.”
“Just a migraine.”
Kakashi chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the sides in that adorable expression Gai loved so much. “Come here,” he held his arms out in much the same way Gai had earlier when he’d offered to hold Pakkun.
 “You’re the injured one.”
“It’s my brain that’s injured, not my arms,” he insisted. Looking his boyfriend over, Gai couldn’t help but raise a judgmental eyebrow. Although it was true that his head had taken the brunt of the damage, his body certainly wasn’t injury free. There were bruises littering his arms and face, and even some hidden under the hospital gown he’d been changed into when they first arrived. “Alright,” no longer willing to wait, Kakashi reached out with his left hand and grabbed a fist full of Gai’s shirt and yanked him forward.
With a small yelp, Gai fell straight into Kakashi’s body, his head thumping lightly against his chest.
“There,” wrapping his arms around Gai’s shoulder’s, Kakashi gave him a light squeeze. “Better?”
Closing his eyes, Gai smiled when the noise outside the room seemed to fade into the background. It wasn’t completely gone, but the sound of Kakashi’s heart beating against his ear and the feeling of his chest rising with each breath he took drowned it out.
“Better,” he agreed with a happy hum, sinking further into Kakashi’s body as he leaned back slowly. Once Kakashi was laying back down in bed, Gai’s head on his chest and Pakkun taking up his position at their side, he hummed.
“What a pair we make, hmm?” slender fingers buried themselves into Gai’s hair and began rubbing against his scalp. If he were a dog Gai was sure he’d be thumping his foot against the bed right now, but instead he simply melted into the touch. “The head trauma duo is what they should call us.”
Gai wanted to argue.
He didn’t have head trauma, his brain simply hated him. It was different.
There was no argument for him to make, though. Not with Kakashi’s fingers working so diligently against his sculpt, not getting rid of the migraine but easing the pain just enough so Gai could finally relax. His shoulder’s slumped, his eyes slid shut, and for the first time in hours he felt sleep taking him over.
He’d come to the hospital with Kakashi hoping that his presence would help comfort him while he recovered, but instead it was Kakashi comforting him while he fought back a migraine.
it seemed ridiculous. He wasn’t the one who’d been punched in the back of the head.
Yet, as he lay there in Kakashi’s arms he couldn’t help but think this was perfect. By holding Gai in his arms, Kakashi was forced to lay there. He wouldn’t be able to get up and train when he was supposed to be resting.
Gai got cuddles, and Kakashi got to heal.
It was a win-win.

The man who had hired her was a short, sout man with a near perpetual scowl on his face. He tapped his foot impatiently as Kira neared him. "You called for me?" Kira asked, glancing around but finding no trouble. "See if this goblet has poison." He said, and shoved it towards her but she'd easily stepped back to avoid it getting spilled on her and instead it splashed on the floor. She looked in the cup. "It doesn't." She said simply. "What? How do you know?" He demanded. "Because now it's empty." She said with a bit of deadpan humor before leaving. He stood there, red as a tomato while she left to survey more of the area. If someone here wanted to kill him, it wouldn't be through poison. Besides, I already added my powder for a safety measure. Kira was quite the inventor and it had helped her more than once in her life. In this case, it was tasteless, near unnoticable powder that would turn food or drink bright blue once tampered with. That was when she heard someone call a name and soon she saw that sweet pug come back and nuzzle her leg. Her heart warmed at the sight, the little animal was so precious. She glanced from the dog to its owner, who had made himself known. A man with striking silver hair and an eyepatch over an eye. He looked so familiar... why? "It's alright." She smiled, her cheeks raising above her mask slightly before she knelt down again to give the eager pup some more head pats and scratches behind the ear. She soon stood and fixed the bow of her yukata at the front. "He's very cute. I promised him some of my dinner because I thought he was a stray, but now that I know he has an owner I'll try not to overfeed him." She said with a gentle, closed eyed smile. "Are you one of the guests here or were you just looking for your mischievous pup?" She asked with good humor.
“We are working on manners” Kakashi said, his right eye crinkling with a smile. It was not even a lie. Actually for both of them really. Unfortunately this was the blind leading the blind kind of situation. He looked at her intently. Hokage sama had said that he might know her from his academy days but that had been quite some time ago. Kakashi had graduated the academy at the age of 5. Additionally he had never paid all too much attention to most other children…or well…people in general actually.
“Maa don’t tell him that…he is insufferable enough as it is” Kakashi said, looking down at Pakkun.
“Don’t let it get to your head ne…it’s big enough as it is.” That tiny body sure could not carry more head. Though the pug was stronger than he looked.
“Well I’m afraid if you have promised him food, he’ll stick to you till he gets it” he said, his dark eye catching her blue gaze.
“Guest? No…is looking out for the rich not just a wonderful pastime? Though these events mostly are easy earned money ne?”Kakashi said, letting his gaze going over the crowd the way he would he he’d actually been here playing bodyguard.
For a moment his gaze rested on a woman in a luxurious kimono as if it was her he was working for. She caught his gaze and smiled, with one arched eyebrow and an elegant move of her hand she lifted her sake glass in his direction. Kakashi nodded in acknowledgment and then turned back to his ‘target’.
“What about you? Work or pleasure?”
A Mission for the Lost - RP
@009720kakashi
Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi stood up from his seated position behind his desk after he’d summoned the ANBU Captain Hatake, Kakashi to his office. Walking around to the front of the desk, he looked over to the door to ensure that it was shut from any prying eyes or ears before he spoke.
“I regret that I don’t have more time to check in with you, considering all that you do for the village, but I have a pressing mission that I can only entrust to you. This is a S-rank mission and yet I can only send you alone, which I will explain in a moment.” He said, sighing for a moment as he looked towards the window, which was closed off with blinds, then he looked back at the masked shinobi.
“I’ve kept information about this individual to a minimum thus far, but as new revelations have surfaced, I cannot allow their rot to spread into our village and endanger our people now knowing what form it takes. You are being tasked with the retrieval of a woman named Kitsune Kira. I will give you a picture of her likeness, although our only reference is from when she was just a child, in which she always wore a mask and cloak. Her eyes will likely be the most telling feature if you come across her.” Sarutobi explained, now handing the scroll of information to Kakashi, and the picture along with it. In said picture, was a nervous looking girl, clasping her small hands together in front of her with bright blue eyes and a short ponytail kept high with bangs framing her face despite a slate grey mask covering half of it and her hood hiding much of her hair besides a few clues of the style she wore.
“I assume you don’t remember her, but she attended academy during your years there as well.” Sarutobi didn’t go much more into detail on that topic, knowing it would likely not matter anyway. Instead, he continued on with the intel.
“It was long suspected that she murdered her parents before abandoning the Leaf Village at the age of nine. Suspected, though not confirmed. Considering she had not been heard or seen again, even after several tracking-nin were sent after her, I thought it might be possible that she ran off and took her own life after finding her parents dead. That is, until recent reports were brought forth. I didn’t know her well, but from the word of her teammates and squad leader, she was a gentle girl.” Sarutobi said, recalling the many testimonies to vouch for her, only to slowly turn into rumors instead when enough time had passed. “You are the first one to know this besides myself and a select few others, but her abilities of regeneration were the result of an experiment conducted by Orochimaru with her mother’s approval when she was not yet born. In theory, Kira is a living anomaly, as she was not expected to survive long enough to be born alive. The only prevailing theory about why she might have done such a heinous thing is that it’s possible Kira found out about the nature of her existence and something inside her broke.” As Sarutobi paused his speech, the air weighed heavy before he continued his briefing. “The woman is clever, if rumors prove true. Therefore, I do not want to send out a squad, it will attract too much attention. Not just that, but you’re one of the best tracking ninja the ANBU has, so I feel as though sending you alone should be enough to finish this.” He said, but there was a hesitance in his eyes as he was about to say his next statement, but it disappeared a moment later as he looked at the masked ninja.
“I need you to track down this ghost of Konoha’s past and put an end to it. I prefer that you bring her back alive once you find her, but if that proves to be an impossibility, then I will need you to bring back her body instead.” After a pause, he continued. “You may set out as soon as you are ready.”

Aaahhh Naruto with a Dragonite anon here again and I’ve been thinking more and about a Pokémon Naruto AU (with a Dragonite or course that’s how this starteddd) and there are so many different ‘mons??? Like I love them all how can I chose- BUT ALSO. But also. I know the Lillipup line is popular for Pakkun and Kakashi but I’ve decided that Pakkun is, instead, a Yamper that won’t evolve and has absolutely Beat Up a God. Pakkun is Yamper is Raikiri. I find it hilarious okay.
ALSO I struggle with other possible Pokémon for Naruto but some potential ones could be Alolan Raichu, Mimikyu, and Politoed? And of course at least One (1) giant ass Kantonian Ninetales named Kurama, probably one or both Zoroark varieties because Foxy Babey is Foxy. I’m not a fan of Naruto’s toad theme but I do like that the lil guy has a built in Uzumaki spiral, I think it’s cute. Alolan Raichu I just love, I can see one teaching Naruto to surf and ride waves like the people of Uzushio probably could,,, And listen you can’t. For one second. Tell me Naruto would t cry over Mimikyu he’d understand the, So Much and I am. I am once again having feelings.
I’m less certain on,, Most other characters? Sasuke has a Marowak because look at him, it’s Sasuke, and Sai clearly has a Smeargle named Shin… Hhh I’m a sucker for Shikamaru with Any Deer so I’ll probably just Yeet Wyrdeer and Sawsbuck at his face, at terminal velocity, because Being Shikamaru is Suffering (but also Shika with a Komala. Shika with an Absol and both of them are Very Tired because why does Naruto keep getting into trouble).
And wow I’m rambling,, I shall shut up but thank you for the encouragement!!! Idk how far I’ll go with this but it’s fun to think about!
I seriously love this entire idea

After assigning Pakkun to remain with Naruto and Sakura, Kakashi peeled off towards a nearby area of interest. He knew the location of a couple of Orochimaru's old hideouts, and if the remnants of them were still in tact, they could very well be actively harboring clues or the very ones they were seeking.
Kohaku's timing was not ideal for this assignment, but Kakashi supposed this was a decent enough opportunity to test him.
"We'll be heading into a potentially trapped area. Stay close and be mindful of what you touch."
His last venture there hadn't exactly been pleasant, but a mere a check-in hopefully wouldn't prove to be as hazardous as it had years ago.
He stops to take in his surroundings, eyes shifting as they prodded the landscape for those subtle clues.
"Sorry to throw you in like this." He says quietly as he decisively steps forward and pushes away a low hanging limb. "Ideally you would have trained with the others and allowed me time to learn about you. Since I don't have your dossier on hand, perhaps you can start with telling me your strengths and weaknesses in case we run into trouble."
Tumblr media
Kohaku was caught off-guard by the sudden mission, he had expected some time getting to learn his new team first, but like all of them, he was ready for action if it found him.
"I see sir." Kohaku said putting his uncertainties away as he did a quick double check of his weapons and nodded. "Yes sir, I'm ready sensei."

Meet My Eternal RivalAU: Iwa Gai Au
Words: 2608
Rating: General
Characters: Hatake Kakashi/Maito Gai
Warnings: None
Summery: Kakashi always knew that there would come a day where his new Genin team would end up meeting Gai. He was just hoping for a little extra time, and some support from his favourite summon.
Made with lots of help from @sakura-rpblog and @thegodsaregay
Peace and quiet. It wasn’t something Kakashi was used to having anymore. Ever since Lord Third had given him his latest genin team, his days had been filled with squabbling, endless questions, and more headaches than he had ever had in his life.
When Gai had told him that becoming a Jonin-Sensei would make him feel more complete, he had clearly forgotten to warn Kakashi about the unruly nature of pre-teens. Something he’d be more willing to scold the man for if this wasn’t one of the few chances they had to spend together.
The last thing he wanted to do was ruin their moment complaining about his genin team. All he wanted to do was cuddle up close to Gai and fall asleep. Forget about all of the responsibilities he had to deal with for just a little while.
Of course, it was never that easy. Maybe if he was back home in Konoha, relaxing in the arms of another Leaf shinobi, it would be different. But this was Gai.
The great green beast of Iwagakure.
Responsibilities and loyalties never left his mind when he was here in Gai’s arms. Stealing away a few hours where they weren’t enemies. Those rare, precious moments where the two of them could simply enjoy each other’s company and relax.
“So,” Gai rested his chin on top of his head and chuckled when Kakashi looked up at him. “You haven’t told me anything about them yet.”
Ruined. All of his plans for a nice relaxing day, completely ruined.
Keeping a calm façade, he stretched his arms over his head and groaned. “They’re the worst,” he whispered. “I mean, they’re amazing. I adore the brats, but they’re the absolute worst. One can’t stop pulling pranks and doing anything he can think of to try and get attention, the other doesn’t want anything to do with anyone but is at least smart enough to try and work as a team, and the third…”
Actually, there weren’t many complaints he had about Sakura. Her crush on Sasuke was a little annoying at times and certainly distracted her from her training, but otherwise, she was a good student. Attentive and driven, and always trying to put a stop to the fights between Naruto and Sasuke.
“You should have warned me,” he huffed, collapsing back into Gai’s lap and resting his head against his stomach. “Sometimes I think you just assume everyone’s as good with people as you are. You just...forget that I’m anti-social.”
His jab is met with a laugh. Loud and beautiful, just as it always was. How he wished he didn’t have to leave Gai’s side again. That he could just lay here and listen to that laugh for the rest of time. No other worries on his mind.
“I’m sure as difficult as you make them out to be, you’re doing wonderfully as a Sensei,” the feeling of Gai’s hand settling in his hair sent shivers down his spine. “I’ve had to battle you myself. I know that you have a lot to teach them.”
Well, at least someone believed in him. He certainly didn’t most days.
“Speaking of. Did you leave someone to watch over them while we’re together? I hope you didn’t leave your team alone, Rival.”
“Pakkun and Akino are with them,” He assured the other man. “I took a page out of your book on that one and decided to trust my summons to watch over them. Maybe they’ll actually do something to stop them from finding us.”
Not that he really blamed Ningame for not trying to stop Gai’s students. They had a right to know about what their Sensei was up to when he disappeared on them. He was just thankful that Gai was able to convince all three of them to keep what they had found a secret, and that they didn’t try to attack Kakashi.
He’d feel bad if he had to beat up his boyfriend’s students.
“It’s too bad,” tilting his head back, he stared up at Gai. A little confused about why he would say something like that. “I wouldn’t mind meeting the kids who were making my love’s life so difficult that he feels the need to complain about it. Someone has to tell them that they’re doing a good job.”
“Meh, one day,” when things weren’t so difficult. When the villages could maybe get along and work together as Obito had always dreamed. Then he’d be able to introduce Gai to his team. “Until then, we should enjoy the time that we have together. Who knows when we’ll be able to sneak away again.”
It was a little disappointing that they didn’t have much to do. If he had known beforehand that Gai would be nearby, he would have packed some snacks for them to have a mock picnic. Or he might have brought a present from Konoha for Gai to enjoy. He always liked Dango when Kakashi brought it, and seeing him chomp into the sweet treat was always an experience for Kakashi.
Still, he appreciated that Akino had told him he smelled a familiar shinobi nearby. He hadn’t actually told Kakashi who it was, but that playful look on his face had told him all he needed to know.
Reaching up, he poked Gai’s nose playfully. “Thank you,” he whispered, chuckling when Gai responded with a confused look. “You didn’t have to meet me.”
A soft expression appeared on Gai’s face. His eyes staring down at Kakashi with a fondness that Kakashi wasn’t used to seeing from anyone else. “Our moments together are often fleeting and rare,” he reminded him while gently running his fingers through his long silver hair. “I wouldn’t give up a single one of those moments for anything. So long as I am able to meet you, I will,” Leaning down slightly, he pressed a kiss against Kakashi’s forehead, as if the action cemented his words into Kakashi’s mind. “No matter the risk.”
Oh, and how much risk there was. Tenzo had almost given Kakashi up the one time he found him with Gai during their Anbu days, which would have quickly led to Kakashi following a very similar path to his father. Disgrace falling on his name, and the hatred of those he had lived for years to protect weighing down on his soul.
He had been lucky enough that Tenzo liked him. That he had trusted Kakashi when he assured him he’d never betray Konoha, not even for Gai. No matter how much it hurt his heart, or how he longed to just give up and find his place by Gai’s side.
The same couldn’t be said of his students. If they believed for even a second that their Sensei could no longer be trusted, they’d be in the right to tell Tsunade-sama about his private meetings with Iwagakure’s great green beast.
“Naruto!” Sakura’s voice cut through the air, and Kakashi’s body stiffened against Gai. His stomach twisting into knots as everything he had been trying to avoid came heading straight for him. “Naruto! You can’t just go running off! If Sensei…”
“If Sensei cared, he would have stuck around at the camp with us,” that was on him. He really should have known that Naruto would take his absence as a chance to act out. It was what he was known for. “Besides, he might be in trouble.”
Gai snorted above him.
“Should we…” It wasn’t preferable, but if he could at least look like he wasn’t cuddling up to the enemy, it was a win. Right?
Crawling off of Gai’s lap, he sat up in his spot and sighed. Was it really so much to ask for just a little time with the other man? Just a few hours uninterrupted for them to enjoy each other’s company? Without Kakashi having to worry about the fall out of being found with an enemy shinobi.
“Naruto!” Sakura’s voice called out once more as a blur of orange burst through the bushes and came to a hard stop in front of Kakashi and Gai, a familiar grin plastered on his face.
“There you are, Sensei!” Throwing his arms behind his head, Naruto chuckled. “You’re getting easier to find. Are you even trying anymore?”
Holding back the urge to yell at Naruto about learning some patience and staying at the camp where he left them, Kakashi slowly gathered himself to his feet and dusted his pants off. “Congratulations, you found me,” he responded with a bland, bored tone. “Now that this little game is done, we should head back home.”
“Sensei, you don’t sound so...oh!” Naruto’s eyes widened when he finally spotted the man beside Gai. “Hello.”
“Hello.” Gai waved back at him, chuckling when the other two finally caught up and landed by Naruto’s side. As soon as they had come to a full stop, Sakura lifted up a hand and brought her fist down across the back of Naruto’s head hard.
“I told you not to go after Sensei like that,” She scolded him. “He was clearly in the middle of something important!”
Glancing back to Gai, Kakashi couldn’t help but smile when he saw him staring at his students. It wasn’t how he had wanted them to meet, but just seeing the amused look in Gai’s eyes was worth it, and he had no doubt Gai would have some things to say about his students the next time they saw each other.”
“Though,” Sakura spoke up once again, her eyes zeroing in on the headband around Gai’s waist. “Why are you speaking with an Iwagakure Shinobi, Sensei? I thought the only village we got along with was Suna?”
Just what he didn’t want to deal with.
Surely he could just tell his team that he was on a mission. Doing some information gathering, and the informant he was meeting happened to be a shinobi from Iwagakure.
They would believe that, right?
“I think we’re done here. You got what you needed and I have to get back to my current mission,” Glancing back over at Gai, he watched as he gathered himself to his feet and smiled his way. “Until next time?”
“Until next time,” Gai agreed, disappearing from in front of them and into the woods.
Watching Gai leave was the worst part. They had no idea when they’d be able to see each other again, and if they were lucky enough to find themselves close to each other once again they had no idea if they’d be able to get away from their teams to spend even just a few precious moments together.
He hadn’t even been able to say a proper goodbye. With a kiss and a promise that they’d keep in contact. That they’d find their way back to each other’s sides again.
If something happened to one of them on another mission, it would be an empty goodbye. Something that Kakashi would never be able to take back, and all because he had to act like a good soldier.
Loyal and true to Konoha, even when his heart called out for him to stay with Gai.
“Why were you hanging out with an enemy shinobi?” Sakura asked, looking up at Kakashi with bright green eyes. “Were you...What…”
“Isn’t that obvious?” His heart dropped when he heard Sasuke scuff. This was it. The moment that he had been dreading since he had summoned the hounds and gone out to meet Gai while his students were sleeping, and he still had no idea how he was going to try and explain it to them. “Sensei got a mission while we were out. He was probably just getting information from that weirdo.”
Blinking, Kakashi glanced back down towards Sasuke. It was out of the norm for him to cover up for anyone else, and there was no way he honestly believed that Kakashi was there to gather information.
Making his way towards his students, Kakashi reached out and buried his hand into the Uchiha’s hair and laughed. Soft and happy, even as his heart broke a little knowing that he wouldn’t be able to see Gai for a long time.
“It’s always nice to know that you’re so observant,” He smiled. “I’m sorry I had to leave you behind. It was the only opening that we had to meet. Now, where are Pakkun and Akino?”
Surely they hadn’t left the kids unattended. They never failed Kakashi before.
“Oh, they’re back at Camp,” Sakura offered, smiling when she saw Kakashi frown. “Pakkun said it was your problem for running off and leaving them in charge of us. Muttered something about being able to catch us easily if he wanted to as we left.”
Of course. Pakkun always chose the worst times to try and teach him a lesson.
“I guess someone’s not getting the treats I promised him,” he grumbled. “Now let’s get going. We still have two days of running before we’re home.”
Dropping his hand from Sasuke’s hair, he turned away from his students and started to walk back towards the small camp that they had set up. Maybe during his next solo mission, he’d be able to sneak away for a bit.
Get a little more time with Gai. Just a few hours. Maybe even a day if he was lucky.
It wasn’t asking too much. Just one uninterrupted visit. No students or teammates to show up unannounced.
Arriving back at the camp, Kakashi waved a hand when Pakkun and Akino turned to look at him. “Yo. Hope You didn’t miss us while we were gone.”
“Akino might have gotten into your pack,” Pakkun commented, resting his head on his paws as Kakashi walked past him. “You left the dog treats, so he decided to help himself.
“Of course he did,” stopping beside the hound in question, Kakashi sighed when he was greeted with the biggest set of puppy dog eyes he had ever seen Akino pull off. “How is it that you can look so innocent when I’ve seen you tear enemies apart with your teeth?”
“Ewww,” Naruto complained, running past him towards his pack. The only one that wasn’t already put together and ready to go. Both Sakura and Sasuke simply had to pick their packs up off of the ground and they were ready to go, but Naruto’s sleeping bag was still laid out on the ground waiting to be rolled up and put away. “Gross, Sensei.”
“We’re shinobi,” Sasuke scolded him. “That’s part of our job. Killing the enemy. Just like the fight we had against Haku and Zabuza.”
“I know that!”
Tunning out the argument, Kakashi turned back towards Pakkun. “So, were they already before they ran off to find me?”
“They were their usual selves,” the pug huffed. “That’s not the most important question though,” raising an eyebrow, Kakashi waited for Pakkun to fill him in on what the ‘important’ question was. “How was your date with Gai?”
The sound of bags dropping back to the ground echoed in his ear, as well as Naruto screaming ‘Kakashi-Sensei’ at the top of his lungs while sounding like he had just been stabbed in the back.
There was no going back. He was going to have to explain everything to the three of them now.
“No treats for a month,” he growled at his favourite summon.
For a moment, Pakkun looked like he was about to argue. However, with one look towards the three kids standing behind Kakashi trying to figure out how they were supposed to respond to this new information, he gave Kakashi a smug look. “Worth it.”

Kakashi raises Naruto thing
It went like this: Kakashi was fourteen and he had lost just everyone he had ever loved. All that’s left was a newborn that he picked up out of the rubble. He hated him. The little bundle pressed to his chestplate. It wasn’t fair, but emotions rarely were. Naruto Uzumaki represented the worst day of his life. Kakashi can’t stand to look at him for long with his dandelion colored hair. But at the same time the thought of putting baby down down somewhere made him crazed with rage. Faintly, underneath the smoke and the acid tang of the Kyuubi’s chakra, he could smell Kushina’s and Sensei’s scent on the baby.
The first Anbu who tried to take Naruto from him got a kunai to their instep for their trouble. The second got a broken arm. The third— well at that point they learned not to try to take him on singly so that was also when the fourth, the fifth, and the sixth tried. In the end they had to call the Sandaime Hokage in to try to talk sense into him.
“Kakashi, be reasonable. Who will watch him when you are out on missions? Your landlady? There will be ninja out for Naruto’s life everywhere. He’ll be dead by the time you get back. You can’t take care of him on your own.” Sarutobi said looking more haggard then he has in a decade. He had a ninja’s flak jacket on, but civilian pants. Retirement had agreed with the man a little too much.
What he meant was this: You are young still. A child yourself no way equipped to take care of a baby without a partner to help.
Kakashi heard this: Naruto was in danger and nobody else can protect him except for you.
His chakra flickered. Pulling on the dog contract took the barest concentration and required no handseals. Kakashi could preform the jutsu blind and half dead.
Bull appeared in a soft puff of white smoke in front of him. Posture grim. He didn’t ask what happened to Sensei and his wife. He didn’t have to. Kakashi wore the answer to that all over his body. He slipped Naruto into Bull’s backpack.
“Take him to the summoning realm.” He said hoarsely.
The Hokage cried out, “Kakashi what do you think you are doing—?!” And shunshined next to him.
Pakkun would have hesitated and asked questions, but Bull had no such inclination. Him and Naruto were gone, before the Hokage’s feet touched the ground.
“There,” Kakashi said savagely. “My summons will look after him while I am on missions. Can I go now?”
~!~
Kakashi, in fact, would not be going anywhere. They took him to T&I to try to persuade him to bring Naruto back. Though it took them a while to find someone willing to ‘encourage him.’ Inoichi took one look at him and walked out and so did half of the department. A ruddy face newbie who stunk like fear and sweat got stuck with the job and the worst she managed to do was a few broken fingers, before another ninja whisked him away. Murmuring that a clan meeting had been called.
In the council chambers was every large clan and even a few small ones. They still wore their armor and smoke clung to their bodies.
Chouza was the first to break the silence. “If Kakashi wants the boy I don’t see why he shouldn’t raise him. He knew Kunshina and Minato well.”
Kakashi raised his head. Blinking with dull shock. Where one clan went the other two followed. He had just gotten the backing of the big three. And here he thought they had dragged him in here to declare him a traitor and order his execution. He had earned it thrice over. Attacking a Konoha Anbu was a death sentence.
Danzo sneered from his seat on the Sarutobi’s right like he had never been dismissed from the position of the Hokage’s advisor. “The Jinchuuriki cannot be under the power of any clan. That’ll sway the politics too much.”
A snarl ripped its way up Kakashi’s throat.
The smaller clans flinched, but all Danzo did was narrow his eyes at him.
“The Hatake clan is down to a single member.” Shikaku cut in. Sending Kakashi a quelling look. “And despite being the clan head for a decade has yet to attend a clan meeting. Its influence could hardly be smaller.”
“Besides.” Inoichi added with a smile. “Nobody can deny that Kakashi would have been the Yondaime’s pick.”
Everybody in the room shifted uneasily at Inoichi’s words. If the Yondaime had been here he would have sent them all packing for treating his student like a criminal, but if he had been here Kakashi would have never done what he had did in the first place.
“Kakashi is only 14 years old. Surely, Minato would have wanted his student to be able to live his own life.” Sarutobi protested.
Danzo remained unbothered by the tides of opinion turning against him. He smiled. A cruel, nasty, little thing like a centipede curled on his face.
“Hiruzen is right and I can provide proof.” He threw a binder onto the table. “Minato’s will. Jiraiya is the boy’s godfather. That’s who he should go to.”
In another world that would be enough. Kakashi was exhausted beyond reason and coming down from battle adrenaline. Not really wanting to be saddled with an infant he would have taken the out that the Danzo provided. He would have even been grateful for it. But this world was not that one.
“Alright, when Jiraiya gets here I’ll give Naruto until then he stays with me.” Kakashi said, staring Danzo down.
Chouza nodded his head. “He stays with you.” He rumbled. The sentiment echoed by the rest of the clans.
Sarutobi was clearly unhappy with this turn of events. Everyone knew that Jiraiya wouldn’t be coming for his godson anytime soon, so this might as well be Kakashi’s official appointment as guardian, but he could hardly go over the heads of all of the clans in such a blatant fashion. He would be lucky if only a civil war sprung up from it. It could lead to the dissolution of the village itself.
“Alright then. He stays with you,” he said finally with a sigh.
~!~
A month into guardianship Kakashi still had no idea of how to care for an infant. As a matter of fact he had been rather content letting his summons deal with Naruto. Going on mission after mission with a fervor that alarmed the people around him. Even on his days off he left him in the summoning realm.
It wasn’t until Pakkun summoned himself into Kakashi’s bare bones apartment to scold him that he even considered it wasn’t the best course of action.
“Enough’s enough.” Pakkun snarled. Slamming his paw onto the floor like a judge’s gavel. “You need to spend time with the pup. He needs interaction. Real human interaction in order to not stunt his growth.”
Kakashi covered in blood and worse from his last mission blinked tiredly at Pakkun. “My father left me with his dogs after my mother died, and I didn’t turn out any worse for it.”
Pakkun growled. Thin, harsh, vibrato rattling through the air. “Your father didn’t leave you there for longer than a week! He took care of you every chance he got. Naruto’s not a dog Kakashi he needs more from you than this.” Pakkun paused. Then sighed. “Look if you are feeling overwhelmed you could talk to the Hokage about it I am sure he could—”
Kakashi cut him off with a growl of his own.
There was no way he was going to surrender Naruto over to anyone. The thought of anyone else touching him. Letting them leave their scents all over his puppy soft face— It didn’t bear thinking about.
So that was how he ended up with a baby in his house. Naruto wailed constantly. His tiny arms waving in the air in Kakashi’s direction who ignored him. Staring resolutely at a wall. He wanted to be picked up. Kakashi knew that. But he couldn’t bring himself to move to comfort the crying infant. After a month the scents of Minato and Kushina would have doubtlessly faded from his skin and Kakashi couldn’t stand to confirm that for himself yet. Naruto will tire himself out soon.
He did not tire himself out. He continued bawling late into the night and into the wee hours of the morning. It continued even after Kakashi finally broke down and held him. Big hiccuping sobs muffled into his shirt. No matter how much Kakashi paced he couldn’t get him to settle. Even when he choked through half remembered lullabies that his mother might have sung to him once.
Kakashi needed help. He couldn’t go to the Hokage and his dogs were refusing his summons for 24 hours. There was only one adult figure in his life that might help him.
He jumped over the rooftops two at a time. Pre-dawn twilight giving him enough light that he didn’t need to use chakra to navigate. The lamps were still lit. Dotting the roads below. He prayed he didn’t run into anybody he knew. Gai was his biggest threat. He was the earliest early bird that ever was and he would definitely be out. The gods must have smiled upon him for he made it to his destination unhindered.
The Uchiha compound squatted on the bank of the Naka river. Unlike most civilian buildings they rarely went above one story. It was too easy to use a fuuton justu and topple anything taller. They used Hashirama trees for the entire thing and it smelled a little like the forest. Kakashi felt eyes on his back as he briskly jogged through the compound. Nobody confronted him. So he did his best to ignore it.
He went up to the clan head’s house and slammed his fist upon the door with more force than was polite. It was too early by far, but he didn’t care.
Mikoto was the one to open the door. Despite the hour she was clean and sleek enough to go to an audience with the Hokage.
“What are you doing here, Kakashi?” She asked, but her eyes drifted down to Naruto so she knew the reason already.
“He won’t stop crying!” Exploded out of Kakashi without his permission.
Mikoto closed her eyes for a moment as if looking for patience. “I’m sorry, but I can’t help you.” She said, eventually. Grim as a tomb.
“What do you mean you can’t help me? Is this about the eye? This is Kushina’s son!” He hissed. Feeling soft pops of chakra as the Uchiha clan turned their attention to the commotion. Nobody came to stab Kakashi in the throat, so presumably the chakra flares were an all clear signal. He wouldn’t know. It’s not as if the Uchiha taught anybody else their weird chakra based communication system.
“That’s not it.” Mikoto leaned against the door frame. “Look after the attack things have been… difficult for us. It wouldn’t be good for the us if I were to be seen spending time with the jinchuuriki. You have to leave.” She said. Starting to slide the door shut.
Wretched emotions piled up in his chest and he shoved his foot in the way so she couldn’t close it. “You coward!” He screamed at her. “If it had been you Kushina would have stopped at nothing to help your sons!”
Mikoto stared at him with sharingan red eyes, and he had the sudden awareness that she was a jounin in her own right. One so powerful that people across the globe celebrated her wedding anniversary, because that was the same day that she decided to retire. Kakashi braced himself. Keeping one hand free to form handseals.
“You’re right.” She said. “Kushina would have stopped at nothing to help my sons. Even if she had to leave the village. Even the the Sage himself came down to tell her she was wrong she still would have kept my boys safe.”
She bowed her head. “Please. Come inside.”
Dazed from the emotional whiplash he trailed in after her. Popping off his sandals with ill grace.
She reached out to take Naruto from him and he had to curl his fingers into fists to avoid lunging at her. Mikoto’s sharp eyes caught the motion, but she wasn’t deterred. Plucking the baby from his stiff arms without a blink. She hefted Naruto onto her hip. The babe having devolved into soft whimpers.
“Look at you. Aren’t you a little banana boy? Took after your daddy, didn’t you?” She wiped Naruto’s snotty face with a napkin. “Hmmm.” She squinted at Naruto with her sharingan still active.
“He’s hungry Kakashi. When’s the last time you fed him?”
He hunched his shoulders. “Oh—er. Last night.” Actually, his dogs had been the ones to feed him.
Mikoto pinned him to the spot with a look. “They need to eat every two hours.”
She swept off to the kitchen. Leaving Kakashi to scramble after her. Why the hell hadn’t anybody told him they needed to eat so often? Little kids don’t eat that much. Babies are a lot smaller than them. Where would they put it?
Mikoto filled a glass bottle up with milk. Snapping on a rubber nipple with easy efficiency. Flames danced across her palm as she warmed it up with a jutsuless fire. To be able to control the temperature of her fire so precisely took a control that few shinobi had. As a matter of fact the last time Kakashi had seen someone capable of it had been his father who used to let sparks of lightning fall upon Kakashi harmlessly to keep him entertained.
After it was sufficiently warmed Mikoto handed both it and Naruto back over to him.
Kakashi awkwardly juggled the baby in his arms as he struggled to arrange the squirming infant to his liking. He popped the bottle into Naruto’s mouth and considered that to be a job well done.
“What on earth are you doing?” Mikoto said. “Support his head more, and stop holding the bottle at that angle. He’ll swallow a lot of air.”
Silently, he made the requested changes. But that didn’t appease her much as she stared at him.
“How do you bathe him?” She asked.
“With a water jutsu.” He said, because that was better than saying his dogs bathed him.
On and on it went with Mikoto quizzing him on childcare. She showed him the correct ways of doing things when his knowledge proved inadequate.
Fugaku shuffled out of the bedroom. A scowl already twisting his face. It got worse when he saw Kakashi.
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” He asked pointedly.
Mikoto gave her husband a level look. “Whether it’s a good idea or not doesn’t matter because it’s going to happen regardless.
“Fine then.” Fugaku said. “I am going to wash up.”
“Breakfast is warming on the plate dear.” She called after him.
And that was that.

SSM21 Day 10: Distant
"You'll write for me. Promise me you will." She said between her sob as she started to feel unconsciousness overwhelming her.
-
Being in a secret relationship without give anything away to Kakashi and Naruto, or anyone else for that matter, was simply hard.
Now that she is so far away from him, making it even more difficult. Him being at Orochimaru's hideout, while his darling Sakura is all the way in Konoha. Without even mean to, he has created distance in between them. And at the moment like this, when it's dark and cold and pin-dropped silence, all he could think of is her heart shaped face, her emerald expressive green eyes, and of course her beautiful pink locks. He does like how she looks in her short hair, even though he did previously prefer the long one. She had said that it got in the way while they're in the wild as an excuse for Naruto and Sasuke personally agreed to that action, although he did know the real reason behind the chopped mane.
And then, there's part of him that miss her that he wouldn't dare to admit to anyone.
He missed her hugs; Sasuke definitely enjoy the warm and comforting embraces of Sakura.
"Sasuke-kun. Don't struggle too much, please. I just need to hug you right now." She had said, with her teary eyes. When Sasuke was sure Naruto and Tsunade had left the room, Sasuke snakes one of his arm around Sakura's waist and buried his face in the crook of her neck. It makes her cried even harder.
He missed how she desperately asked him for dates too, in spite of their usual secret night meeting.
Naruto was there with Kakashi and they had just finish one of their D-rank missions, "Sasuke-kun." She calls out, earning his attention to look over at her, "Let's get something to eat, j–just the two of us."
And then something like,
"Eh, Sasuke-kun, do you think you can help sharpen my weapons?" She bites her lips before letting it out as she continus, "There's this new restaurant open in town, we can try the new food while you're sharpening."
Really, it gets weird over time. While he usually makes rude remarks and bluntly reject her proposal, he genuinely impressed with her effort.
Thinking about that, Sasuke remembered her blushes. He missed that cream colored cheeks changed to the color of her hair–or brighter, when something excited or embarrassed her.
Sasuke touch her cheeks, "You're wrapped up." he had said, gesturing at her wounded shoulder he had cleaned and wrapped with bandage. She has gotten stabbed by Amegakure genins as she shield Idate from the attack. At their closs proximity, and his touch, Sakura went red as she blushed. She tucked few of her fallen strands of hair behind her ears before she place a soft peck of kiss on his cheek, "Thank you, Sasuke-kun."
He most definitely missed their innocent kiss too. Sakura usually the first to initiate that. Only until he's comfortable enough then he will be the one started it, which isn't bad because he likes kissing her, and if that's not enough, then Sakura's delight expression makes it worth even more.
Tucking Sakura's falling hair behind her ears–which he noticed she often do before kissing him–Sasuke leaned down cautiously and cover her waiting lips with his, softly kiss her before he pulls away. He stares at her deep green eyes as he examined how she takes it before Sakura yanked him closer by his neck and kiss him for real.
He especially missed her coconut smell shampooed hair she had started to use after the Chunin Exam.
"Your hair smells different." He commented when they sat on the dock at the Uchiha district, his hand acted as a comb as it makes it through her hair releasing the few knots here and there. The pink haired girl was leaning against him, her hands circling around his waist as they sat side by side, legs dangling at the edge of the dock.
It was always very silent in the Uchiha district, and no one dare to go into the district, somehow afraid of the ghost of Uchihas still lingering around. Sasuke likes it better that way, especially now that he needed all the silence in the world as he sits with Sakura, liking the secrecy of their relationship.
Sakura makes a face as she pulls her face away from his shoulder, "Pakkun used the same shampoo I previously used. So, I had to change to this one, coconut with vanilla scent." She bites her lips as she looks at him from under her lashes. "Do you like it?"
"The smell?"
Sakura nodded.
"It's fine." He replied nonchalantly as he looks straight ahead.
Smiling in content, Sakura change to embrace his arm instead, tighten it a little and rest her head on his shoulder again, "Are you okay?" She asked.
That stopped Sasuke from his train of thought. Cautiously, he lowered his gaze to look at Sakura. Her eyes closing as a small frown cover her face, albeit she looks like she's comfortable with her head on his definitely not comfortable shoulder, "Why should I not?"
"Something's coming." Her voice coming out soft, almost like she's going to cry. "I can feel it, Sasuke-kun. This bond we're having, it helps me understand you more. And right now, something isn't so right. I hope I don't loose you so soon."
He had put his face into her hair that night, lightly kissed her temple and sniff into her coconut and vanilla scented hair. A few days after that, he left the village, leaving everyone behind.
When Orochimaru first taught him summoning jutsu, and he finally mastered it, he has sent Sakura a letter through the snake summons. It's probably risky, but that is the extend he is willing to make just to get in touch with her.
Right now, he is staring at Sakura's third letter.
Sasuke-kun,
I went to clean up your apartment again yesterday, and stopped by at the dock to uproot the grass and and clear up the growing moss that had started to cover the dock.
To answer your questions, I've been well. And you heard that right, I'm doing apprenticeship with Tsunade-sama. Training with her was hard; she didn't just train me healthcare stuff, she helped me sharpen my combat skills too, but of course, I'm sure it isn't as brutal as your training.
Speaking about training, Sasuke-kun. How has you been doing? You know I can't tolerate with you overwork yourself, right? I'm not there to scold you about it, but I hope there's another me to take care of you over there. If there isn't someone else, please take care of yourself for me, Sasuke-kun.
I know you didn't ask this, but I'm sure you'd like to know as well. Naruto has return from his travel with Jiraiya-sama yesterday. Kakashi put us on the bell test again. This is where it got interesting though.
NARUTO FIGURED OUT HOW TO DEFEAT KAKASHI-SENSEI!
I'm pretty sure you're rolling your eyes right now and think how could Naruto–our Naruto—thought of something to fight Kakashi-sensei off and won. ~I'm actually laughing right now thinking of you saying it, gosh I missed you so much~
But he actually did it. It was stupid, really. Jiraiya-sama just published the latest book for Icha Icha series, so Naruto just recite the ending part of the book for spoiler–Mind you, he actually did read the book. Kakashi-sensei eventually let his guard down and we were able to snatch the bell from him.
Anyway, I know I said this in my previous two letters many months ago but I am so happy you wrote to me. Thank you, Sasuke-kun. And I missed you so damn much!
This has gotten too long, I hope I didn't trouble your summon. He seems like he loves those rats I caught for him, though he said the exact opposite. He and you are so alike. See you, Sasuke-kun.
Love you always,
Sakura.
He reread the letter again for the second time that day. Just like the first time he read it, his face soften at the first paragraph, feels grateful for what she had been doing. It was one of not so many things they did together when he was still in the village, and in their kind-of-dating relationship; clean up as much part of Uchiha compound as they could when they're free from mission and Kakashi's training. He felt somewhat blessed to have someone like Sakura by his side, who is terribly in love with him, to company his lonely days and do things he didn't ask her to.
He of course rolls his eyes at her over caring demeanour, and non logical uneasiness regarding his health. She has always put everyone else before herself, that's what he dislike the most about Sakura.
At the part where Sakura predicted Sasuke's reaction to Naruto's idea, he couldn't help but smirk. She knew him a little too well, despite the yesrs of his absence in her life.
Sasuke touched the cursive writing of her name. Huge part of him feels content that, even after years of separation, Sakura still loves him. And to that, he is genuinely grateful.
For this time, they had to be distant. But when everything else is done, he promised he will go back to her, to the girl that he knew will always wait for him, always love him.
After all, distance means so little when someone means so much.

九つの命/9 Lives Translation
Hi!! So, @foxy-and-tales asked me to tell her what was going on in the comic mentioned in this post. After skimming through it, I thought it'd be good practice - and it'd be easier to answer her question - if I just went through it and told her what it all meant. I realised by that point I was doing a translation, and since I was going to the trouble anyway, I thought I'd post it publicly.
So, the full comic is here. It's basically a comic that has 7 little stories about Kakashi's ninja hounds and their lives with Kakashi. It's an adorable, heartfelt story and I absolutely love the personalities that the artist gave all the ninja hounds and the depictions of their relationships with Kakashi.
My translation will be this post, follow it as a script. I don't have the skill or knowledge to edit and typeset and change the images myself - and I wouldn't do that anyway, as it would involve reposting the art and changing it without the artist's consent. But I do think that not referring to the pictures as you're reading through the script really harms how sweet this story is, so if you can go through the comic slowly whilst referring to my (amateur) translation of it, I hope you can get a glimpse of that!
WARNINGS: There is a depiction of an already dead dog in part 4 😢, and some (human!) male partial nudity in part 6 (😉)
Tagging: @scaredlittlefoxy @lemony-snickers @backalleykat @whatshernameis @gwedosuns @topsyturvy-dream @ice-icebaby @cosmiclattes
This is also the artist’s note that follows after the comic, that I’m putting here:
(Artist’s note translation)
"This is a story about the daily life of Kakashi and the eight ninken.
The ninja dogs’ personalities etc mightn’t be faithful to the source material.
The dogs live free range in Kakashi’s house.
There is an illustration of a dog dying, though it isn’t any of the ninken. Please take note.
You don’t have to read it, but below this are the dogs’ personalities:
Shiba: Friendly and sensitive
Biscuit: Childish and Selfish
Akino: Calm and cool demeanour
Bull: Timid and Quiet
Urushi: Ladykiller. A little bit dim. (Note: Himbo!)
Guruko: Annoyingly helpful and naggy
Uhei: Pure-hearted and cheerful
Pakkun: Same as in the series"
Some notes and then onwards into the translation under the cut:
Please take heed before continuing:
I’m not a professional translator, in fact I’ve done very little of this, so there’s some guesswork and liberties taken, and I don't claim that that there’ll be no mistakes.
I’ve separated it out by sections and pages, so you should be able to follow the story from following the speech bubbles (right to left) and referencing the lines here by speaker
Each space between a line denotes that it’s the next speech bubble
A new line but no change in speaker will denote that it’s the same character talking, but in the next panel or speech bubble
Italics means the character is thinking or flashbacks. I'll try and make this obvious as I go but the artwork should make that clear too.
Brackets are my additions, or me translating things like signs etc, or brackets will have smaller background dialogue not in speech bubbles. I'll try to make this clear as I go.
Stuff surrounded by * denotes actions or onomatopoeic actions/words in panels
Ask me if there’s any parts that confuse you about the story!! The way I’ve done this isn’t easy to follow but it's the best my dumb brain could come up with
TRANSLATION:
Title page
(p.1)
ここのつのいのち
9 Lives
(p.2)
1. ‘I won’t tell anyone’
(SFX: dogs playing and wagging tails)
Kakashi: Hm? You’re not gonna play, Shiba?
Shiba: …No. …Hey, Kakashi’
Kakashi: Hm? What?’
Shiba: There’s a girl I like’
Kakashi: Ohhh… I won’t tell anybody.
I won’t tell ~ I won’t tell ~
(p. 3)
Shiba: She’s really cute…
Kakashi: That’s great ~
Shiba: But I haven’t even spoken to her once
Kakashi: You should go for it ~
(SFX: *happy dog panting*)
Shiba: I’ll come back as soon as I’ve talked to her!’
Kakashi: Yep!
Shiba: I’ll be right back, definitely!
Kakashi: Ok, ok (lit. Yes yes)
(p.4)
Shiba: She’s already got someone (lit. she’s already in a couple/has a mate)
Kakashi: I see…
Shiba: She said her mate hurt his leg and can’t walk so he's staying at home…
(p.5)
Kakashi: Shiba, you know.. have feet that can walk anywhere…
So maybe you’ll meet an amazing girl again, won’t you?
(*dog cries*)
Kakashi: ...I won’t tell anyone. (*Comforting doggy*)
I won’t say anything. I won’t say anything.
(Kakashi: Aw, Shiba is pretty sweet to me, huh?)
2. Biscuit’s Sausage (note: I know his name is technically Bisuke in Japanese, but Biscuit is his dub name and it’s too adorable so that’s what I’m going with here! Also suits the personality he has in this story. What a biscuithead this boy is)
(p.6)
Biscuit: -You’re so sneaky, Kakashi! I wanted to eat sausages!
*crying dog noises*
(Uhei: Sorry, Kakashi…
Guruko: I told you!!)
Kakashi: You know if you eat sausages, Biscuit, your tummy will get sick, right? I’m boiling cod for you right now
(*tantrum noises, pounding feet and barking*)
Biscuit: *angry puppy noises* I hate fish, you idiot! I said I want to eat sausages! Sausages! Sausages!
Kakashi: *sternly* Biscuit
Biscuit: *whimper*
(p.7)
Biscuit: Kakashi, you IDIOT!
(2. Biscuit’s Sausage)
Biscuit: *sniff*
(Sign says Konoha Pet Food)
Biscuit: This is the store that sells the dog food Kakashi buys! Wow, maybe they have sausages here too!
(p.8)
Biscuit: I wonder if I'll be able to eat as much as I want… *gulp*
But if I did that, Kakashi would get in trouble
No, maybe…
*heart pounding*
Kakashi kept it (this) a secret just from me, because I'll get sick...
(Apron says Konoha Pet Food)
Shop Lady: *shuffles*
Biscuit: I didn't do anything yet!!! * heart pounding*
Shop Lady: Oh my… you really just talked!
Shop lady: You’re Kakashi’s pup, aren’t you?
(p.9)
Shop lady: Kakashi got you to come here, huh?
(Shop lady: you’re a good boy!)
Bisuke: Oh, no-
Shop lady: Though, he shouldn't have made you come pick it up without contacting us, huh? Here, sausages!
Biscuit: Sausages?!
Shop lady: There’s a pup among you guys that can’t have normal sausages, right?
It was a request from Kakashi.
He said he wanted me to make some especially for the puppy who can’t handle meat.
(p.10)
Shop lady: Well, here you go!! You’ll tell Kakashi we’re sorry for making him wait, won’t you?
Biscuit: Oh, um… But I don’t have any money…
Shop lady: It’s fine, because it’s Kakashi!
Whenever he has free time, he comes to pay.
I have a deal with him, you see. And he can't get the food if he's not here...
Next time, come together with Kakashi, okay?
(p. 11)
Kakashi: *casually picks up Bisuke* Thank you! This is for you ~
Shop lady: Thank you, come again!
Biscuit: Kakashi…
Kakashi: Hm?
Biscuit: Sorry…
Kakashi: Yeah…
I’m sorry too. I gave everyone else sausages while keeping it a secret from you.
I thought you’d definitely want some if you saw…
(Kakashi: But I got caught.)
(p. 12)
Kakashi: But…. Everyone’ll want some if they see this, too.
How about stopping by the park and eating it there?
We’ll keep it a secret from everyone 😊
Bisuke: *happy face licking and barking* When we get home, I’ll eat the cod too!!
Kakashi: Uhh… Well, Uhei and Guruko already ate it…
Bisuke: WHAT?!!!
(Flashback, Uhei and Guruko saying ‘Cod! Me too!! Me too! I want to eat some too!’)
3. Kakashi’s smile
(p. 13)
*paws thudding on ground/running away*
Kakashi: …Got you.
Akino: Ack!
It’s always only me that you brush so roughly, Kakashi!
Kakashi: It can’t be helped, can it? You have the thickest fur, Akino
*brushing softly* It’ll be over soon, it’ll be over soon…
Other doggies: That seems nice to me, Akino…
Kakashi: Hey, it’s falling out, it’s falling out ~
Akino: !!!
Kakashi: Look, it’s a mini Akino!! So much fur…
Akino: That’s too much hair off the bottom, Kakashi! Wha…
(p. 14)
*Kakashi continuing to laugh at his mini Akino*
Akino: There are times now where Kakashi summons us, even if he doesn’t have any business for us to take care of…
(Back then) he never ever summoned us outside of missions…
(p. 15)
Akino: He was doing all kinds of things, but he was the kind of person who never had a smile on his face…
Kakashi: If I had more time, I could make an even hairier one, you know
(Other dogs: *laughing* Akino: That’s a lie!)
Akino: Kakashi…. You're having fun?
Kakashi: *genuine smile* Yep, I am!
Akino: *smile* If you feel like it, you can keep going…
Kakashi: Oh?
(Later, Akino notices Kakashi has put sunglasses on the mini Akino)
4. Timid Bull (CW Animal Death)
(p. 16)
Bull: I’m the last ninja hound that came to Kakashi’s home.
Before that, I was living in a training centre for ninja hounds.
(4. Timid Bull)
The dogs I lived together with there… were all adopted when they were puppies.
But I still lived at the training centre, even as I became fully grown.
Ninja Hey, that dog looks tough, doesn’t he?
Centre manager: Yes, but… he’s not all that suited for battling…
Despite how he looks, he’s actually a timid dog.
Bull: I… I’m scared of insects. I’m scared of noises.
I’m scared of blood.
Centre manager: Because he can understand the stories of troubled humans, you see…
Bull: I’m scared of anything other than myself.
(p. 17)
Bull: Nobody would want a dog like me, right?
Kakashi: I found a good boy ~
Bull: *panicking* There’s no manager here!
Kakashi: Hello ~
Bull: …Hello… *heart pounding*
Kakashi: Ah, one that talks, huh…
Would you like to become one of my pups?
(p. 18)
Bull: Me…? Me, really? Quit it… That’s enough joking around.
Kakashi: What do you mean?
Bull: No-one wants me (😢)
Kakashi: No-one?
I want you, though.
Bull: What kind of a strange person would want me, I thought
(p. 19)
Bull: There were lots of dogs at Kakashi’s house
(Happy barking doggy noises)
Uhei: Woah, you’re huge! But among these guys, I have the fastest legs, you know!!!
Guruko: And I have the best nose!!
Biscuit: And I’m whiny!! (Note: lit. ‘I’m selfish!’)
Shiba: I have the sharpest bite!
Pakkun: I am the wisest. (Note: Pakkun I think uses Kansai-dialect Japanese lol so he sounds kinda... distinct. This is hard to convey for me lol)
Urushi: I’m popular with the ladies ;)
(Akino: I’m the fluffiest!)
Bull: I was so confused
You… you’re not scared of me?
I’m huge, and I have a scary face… So no one comes near me.
They all said they weren’t scared.
The reason, they said together, was…
(p. 20)
‘Because Kakashi brought you, Bull!’
Everyone was totally relaxed, as if they had no worries at all.
They all clung to me as if it was completely natural to do so.
I realised that there’d always be someone beside me.
(p. 21)
*sounds of paws scuffling against ground in first two panels*
*jumping to the ground noise in third panel*
Kakashi: …Bull, this way is a dead end.
Bull: …Sorry.
I couldn’t go back to where you were, and I thought so, but -
(p.22)
Bull: *looking at dog* He asked me to stay by his side.
…He was an enemy, but he was already dying.
That’s why, Kakashi….
Kakashi: …Yep.
Let’s give him a send-off together.
(Note: this was a tricky one because Kakashi says 送る, which means send, and is used with mail etc, but can mean to say farewells to the deceased, which is why Bull comments on it on the next page)
(p. 23)
Bull: He wanted to say ‘I want to bury him’
But Kakashi said ‘send-off’.
Lightly, as if his life force was still there
There… there are a lot of things that scare me.
When I was waiting for this dog, I was scared.
But I couldn’t refuse his request.
(p. 24)
Bull: …I’m spineless.
Kakashi: Everyone else has lots of things they’re scared of, you know.
That’s why they all stay by your side, Bull.
If you’re there, everything will be alright. That’s how everyone feels.
If you’re close by, everyone’s able to feel safe.
(p. 25)
Kakashi: ….This puppy, too.
Dying dog: …Please…
Bull: That dog…
Dying dog: Stay with me, until the end…
Kakashi: Because you stayed with him, Bull, he felt at peace, didn’t he?
Bull: I don’t think that dog was happy…
…Kakashi.
He was very thin, and he also smelt like he was sick
To protect themselves, his owner didn’t treasure this [this dog’s] life.
Kakashi, I…
Somehow, I..
I’m very…
(p. 26)
Bull: I wanted to cry out as loud as I could..
Kakashi: Yeah… (I’m not sure who’s saying this line)
Bull: For feeling guilty towards that dog, and for knowing Kakashi…
For my life being here now.
For my life, I wanted to cry it out until the blood came out of my throat.
(p. 27)
Bull: That dog…
I wonder, was that dog ever able to feel like this, even once?
(Flashback) Doggies: Because Kakashi brought you, Bull!
Uhei: Hey!!! Bull!!
Shiba: You’re late!!
I was worried, you know!
Guruko: (to others) Hey, Bull came back!!
Bull: I’m Bull. The dog that Kakashi found.
5. Urushi’s scales
(p.28)
Urushi: I think I’m good looking
(5. Urushi’s scales)
Girl pups: Ahh~ Urushi…~
Urushi: I’m popular with the ladies
(note: he uses メス, which means bitch in the literal sense - a female dog - and all the puppers use it to refer to human women too. So I just left it as ladies, as I don't think the pups mean it to be crass, they just use dog language and apply it to humans as well as themselves)
Sometimes I’m told ‘it’s probably because you’re one of Kakashi’s ninken’, but…
(Background lettering over the other dogs says ‘Unstylish/Uncool/Lame’)
But my other friends aren’t all that popular, really.
Still, I think it’s because I really am good-looking after all.
(Choruses of ‘Urushi~’, ‘Ahh…; and ‘Let’s play together, Urushi)
Urushi: Hehehe…
Being good-looking is a great thing.
Guruko: Hey, Kakashi!
(p. 29)
Guruko: You got hit by a girl again, didn’t you?!
Kakashi: *laughing* No…
Akino: Why were you hit by a girl? Do girls not like you?
Uhei: It looks like it hurts…
Kakashi: Nooo ~
Shiba: You’re so strong, Kakashi, why were you hit?
Biscuit: You couldn’t avoid it?
Guruko: *Steam from nostrils* I’ll fight her for you!
Kakashi: It’s fine, it’s fine ~
What are you saying?
(p. 30.)
Urushi: Kakashi said ‘I took responsibility’.
Sometimes humans say things I don’t understand…
Girl dog: Urushi… pair up with me.
Urushi: If Kakashi’s saying it, it must be important…
Be… Because I’m one of Kakashi’s ninken?
Girl dog: It has nothing to do with that. I like you, Urushi
Urushi: Wow… *heart pounding*
Girl dog: Pair up with me, and…
I want you to leave the ninken. (Lit. Stop being a ninken)
(p. 31)
Girl dog: I love you, Urushi, but what if, on a mission, you…
I can’t stand the thought of that!
Leave the ninken, and… always stay in the village with me?
Urushi: This girl’s a beauty, and has a kind personality…
I think that I might want to be with her…
Should I leave the ninken?
(p. 32)
Urushi: *perplexed*
Kakashi, Bull and Biscuit: *zzz, sleeping sounds*
Urushi: If I said I wanted to leave the ninken…
Kakashi: (in Urushi’s imagination) If that’s what you want, Urushi
It’s fine with me! (Background: It would be a shame, though…)
Urushi: I feel like Kakashi would say something like that…
Do I want to do that…? Not really, but… *sigh*
Hey, Pakkun.
(p. 33)
Pakkun: Something bothering you?
Urushi: Yeah, there is
I have to decide between two things, but it’s difficult…
I want both of them, but I can’t have them.
Pakkun: … Is it a girl problem?
Urushi: Yep ~
Pakkun: That’s just like you, Urushi. (Pakkun’s imagination shows two girl pups arguing:
Urushi!! Which one will you choose, me or her?! *indignant barking*)
When making a decision about something, one needs to think about what’s most.
...important to oneself.
Let’s say you balance both sides on your scales…
Urushi: My scales?
Pakkun: For example….
(p. 34)
It’s not the physical weight, but the weight of what you think is precious and important. It’s the weight of those feelings.
If you think about which is heavier, you’ll find the answer.
Kakashi: You guys are having a kinda complicated conversation, huh…?
Pakkun: Oh, Kakashi, you woke up, did you?
Urushi: *heart pounding*
Kakashi: My scales lean towards sleep, you know..
Let’s eat soon, okay? Please…
Urushi: Kakashi…. Are you happy that I’m here?
(p. 35)
Kakashi: Hm? Yeah, I’m happy!
Urushi, of course I’m happy ~
(Note: the word Kakashi uses is 嬉しい, which is ‘ureshii’ so Kakashi is making a pun with Urushi’s name here.)
Urushi: *blush* Okay!
Pakkun: What we were just talking about… Don’t talk about it in front of Shiba.
Urushi: Huh? Why?
Pakkun: Seems like he recently had his heart broken…
(p. 36)
Urushi: The thing that’s most important and precious to me… isn’t you.
That’s why I can’t be with you.
I can’t be with you, but… you’re a beautiful and amazing lady.
So, let’s meet again one day ~
Biscuit: Kakashi! Kakashiiiii! It’s awful!!
(p. 37)
(*throbbing pain*)
Biscuit: Urushi’s hurt!!
(*dogs barking*)
Guruko: Let’s go fight them!! *steam from nostrils*
Shiba: No way, is it a girl? Kakashi, you better tell him off!!!
Kakashi: Did you get into a fight with a dog from the village?
Urushi: No, it’s not that…
I took responsibility.
I’ve got a manly mark on my face, heh~
Shiba: You better tell him off!! *bark*
Pakkun: That’s it…
6. Kakashi’s Helper Team!
(p. 38)
Kakashi: I’m home~!!!
Guruko: ?!!! Kakashi, you stink!!
Kakashi: *sweetly smiling* Oh, stop it…
I saw Asuma after a long time, and we talked and ended up getting some drinks… It was nice to see him… *flops down on floor*
Guruko: Take a bath!!!
Don’t go to sleep!!
(*soundly sleeping*)
(p. 39.)
Guruko: Uhei! Uheiii!
Uhei: What is it?
Guruko: Let’s clean up Kakashi!
(6. Kakashi’s Helper Team!)
Uhei: Ehh… But if he wakes up, he’ll take a bath himself, won’t he?
(SFX: Heave-ho! Heave-ho!)
Guruko: We can’t leave Kakashi as he is when he’s this stinky! It’s fine, take it off!
Uhei: Uh, this is stuck half way, I can’t take it off
Guruko: Because you haven’t taken off his leg bandages!
(p. 40)
Guruko: Damn, this is stuck half way *pulling*
Uhei: Isn’t that because you haven’t taken off his headband?!
Guruko: This is enough, let’s carry him to the bath like this!
(*dragging noises*)
Uhei: Won’t his clothes get wet?
Guruko: It’s fine, because we’re going to wash them anyway!
Uhei: It’s amazing… Kakashi still hasn’t woken up!
Guruko: Okay, let’s wash him!
Uhei: Isn’t that… the shampoo that we use?
Guruko: It’s totally safe!!
If it’s fine for us to use, it’ll be fine for Kakashi too, right?
Uhei: I guess…
(p. 41)
Uhei: We can wash his body, but what about his clothes?
(SFX: *scrub scrub*)
Guruko: If we wash them together, it’ll be fine! Hey, pour some hot water over here ~
Uhei: Okay!
(SFX: *splash*)
Kakashi: *suddenly yelling* I’m gonna die!!
Guruko: *screaming*
Kakashi: Even with my face covered, if you pour hot water on me, I can’t breathe, you know!! You really can’t do that.
Guruko: You woke up…
(SFX: *heart pounding*)
Uhei: You really scared me…
(p. 42)
Kakashi: You’d started something, and I wondered how far you’d carry on… Ah, I’m drenched.
Guruko: Ah, I’m sorry, Kakashi!!
Kakashi: Well, anyway.. you guys ended up cleaning yourselves pretty good too. You’re all drenched, too.
Guruko: Then I’ll go get some towels!!
Uhei: Kakashi, Kakashi
Guruko acts the way he does, but he really loves looking after you!
Kakashi: I know.
Biscuit: I want to have a bath with Kakashi too ~
Guruko: That’s not it! It’s just all slippery (note: not accurate, but the gist is that Biscuit misunderstands and Guruko puts him straight)
7. I’ll always love you
(p. 43)
(Flashback)
Sakumo: Pakkun…
Pakkun…
I have a favour to ask.
(Present)
Pakkun…
(SFX: Snoring)
Kakashi: Pakkun..
(SFX: Gasp)
Pakkun: Huh?
Kakashi: It’s time to eat.
(p. 44)
Pakkun: Alright.
(Other dogs: Food~ Food ~
Kakashi: Yes ~ Yes ~)
(Flashback)
Sakumo: Pakkun…
Pakkun….
Pakkun..
(p. 45)
Pakkun: Kakashi?
Kakashi: Hm?
Pakkun: For the mission report before… You didn't need me, did you?
Why did you bring me?
Other dogs: We want to come too!!
Kakashi: It’s just Pakkun for today
Kakashi: Hmm…
Hey, let’s relax here for a little while.
Pakkun: What’s this…
Kakashi: Come on…
Well…
(p. 46)
Kakashi: I want to talk about Dad.
…No. Maybe it’s a confession?
Talking about Dad…. Felt like something we couldn’t even broach. Ever.
I think you felt this way too, right, Pakkun?
I couldn’t tell you earlier that ‘it’s all right now’. Even though it was.
It was just a matter of timing, I guess…
Pakkun: But I wasn’t waiting for you to say that… Even if you’d have said it earlier, that’d have been good, but..
Why, out of the blue like this?
A change like that… Just like…
Just like…
(p. 47)
(Flashback)
Sakumo: I have a favour.
(Present)
Kakashi: The day Dad died…
Ever since then, for a long time, now… I became strange.
I’ve been nothing but trouble for you.
Pakkun: Kakashi-
Kakashi: Even though… you were hurting over Dad not being here too.
(p. 48)
Kakashi: Dad was your first master, right?
You really were precious to him.
….The other day, when you were having a nap, I woke you up, didn’t I?
It might have been because of the food, but your nose was twitching.
At first, I thought you were growling.
When I woke you up, you had a really startled expression when you looked at me.
I understood right away.
You were thinking about Dad, right?
(p. 49)
Kakashi: You were having a dream about Dad that time, right?
Thank you for always being considerate towards me…
But it’s alright now.
From now on, I want you to tell me…
The things about Dad that only you know.
(p. 50)
Pakkun: Sakumo…
(Sakumo: Pakkun…)
Pakkun: …really was a loving, kind man.
Kind, and…
(Sakumo: Pakkun…)
Pakkun: Kind, and…
…Kakashi.
I’ll tell you about Sakumo.
The things I’ve always wanted to tell you
I’ll tell you now.
Kakashi: Okay.
(p. 51)
Kakashi: Thank you for telling me about Dad, Pakkun.
Pakkun: …Don’t you dare die.
(Pakkun…)
I’ve had enough now.
Yeah. Enough.
(p. 52)
(Sakumo: I’m asking.…)
Pakkun: Sakumo…
The two of you are exactly alike.
Kakashi: Oh, really?
Pakkun: Everything’s alright now.
(p. 53)
“Kakashi!”
(p. 54)
(No text)
(p. 55)
Kakashi!
(p. 56)
Kakashi
(Note: I think the favour Sakumo asked of Pakkun was to take care of and be mindful of Kakashi always. This isn't outright stated)

Note
Any kakasaku college au fanfic? I just finished running out of reasons
What I've personally read and can recommend:
The Art of War by Leafygirl (20k words, T, TW:--, Complete) - Entry for the LJ Kakasaku AU contest. Sakura gets stuck following her teacher after a bet with her friends. But his mysterious life is nothing she ever expected.
What has been recommended to me, but I have not yet personally read:
And They Were Roommates by sunshinemellow (60k words, M, TW:?, Ongoing) - Sakura is a work-obsessed student in her second year of med school and Kakashi is getting his MFA. One rent controlled apartment, two wrecks! Chaos, fluff, and pining ensue. “This doesn’t mean you and I are friends,” she snapped at Kakashi. “Far from it.”  He just smiled with his eyes, patting Pakkun’s head. “I hope that changes, Sakura. I think you’re fun.” Same age AU, slow burn.
Professors and Football and Stalkers, Oh My! by CherryEmbly (135k words, M, TW:? Complete) - Naruto and Sakura are just beginning their Junior Year of College. Legal drinking, hot professors, and a tyrannical football captain are bound to get them into plenty of trouble.

(Felt inspired)
Great of course the one time Kaito tries to avoid something it only get him in more trouble. Why couldn’t he be like Jun? They could get away with theft.
Still, no point in stalling, not when a ninja hound was willing to drag him to his doom. The nin sat down in the chair, not entirely convinced that he was gonna make it out of this conversation with anything, “I don’t feel like this…mishap really needs to be addressed.”
"Well, it's a good thing that it's not up to you then," Kakashi stated, waiting until Pakkun jumped up onto the desk to offer the hound a treat for his work. "There are quite a few people who are angry about it, and that leaves me with a problem."
The biggest problem was the headache he had from all of the complaining, but there was also the fact that Kaito had managed to do some significant damage to the dango shop with his little mishap. Kakahsi had seen Gai cry a lot in all the years he had known him, but the man looked absolutly pathetic when he realized the shop was going to be closed for a month during repairs.
"Let's put this into perspective, how do you think Anko is handling the closer of her favorite treat shop?"

Bookends [3k, ongoing; AO3 link here]
book·end [ ˈbu̇k-ˌend ] n. a support, one of two usually similar things that begin and end something.
Summary: Kakashi Hatake is no stranger to taking in strays.  But when his former comrade and friend mysteriously disappears after the murder of his entire family, leaving behind his little brother, Kakashi learns that there's more to getting lost on the path of life when you pick up an Uchiha brat along the way.
A modern adoption AU exploring various moments in the life of Kakashi, Sasuke, eight dogs, and one vengeful cat.
a/n: Did I expect to become obsessed with Naruto in my 30s?  Short answer: no.  I guess you could say I got lost on the path of life. XD
It’s the same thing almost every night lately.
“I picked up dinner on the way home.  Hope you don’t mind.”
He doesn’t.  Kakashi knows this by now.  The passive hn of acknowledgement that greets him when he steps through the door and into their apartment tells him as much.  If it really bothered him, he’d have made it known by now.  What Sasuke lacks in words he more than makes up for in opinions - something he’s never short of.
The dogs, at the very least, are happy to see him.
“Yes, yes, I missed you too,” Kakashi says a little exasperatedly, holding the takeout bags out of reach for their overly excitable noses and trying to return their enthusiastic welcome without the use of his hands.  Sasuke stays seated at the table, pouring over a textbook, and decidedly choosing not to offer any assistance.  Beside him, Pakkun, the oldest and most loyal of his four-legged companions, raises his head from his crossed front paws.  Sleepy eyes meet Kakashi’s for a moment, blink, then slip shut as he lowers his head and goes back to his nap.
Loyal, indeed.
It takes Kakashi a minute to break through the wall of dogs barricading him against the door after slipping off his shoes.  They follow at his heels as he crosses over to the kitchen, tossing the keys onto the counter island that overlooks the living room before setting down the bags of food.
“I thought we’d go a little greasy tonight,” Kakashi continues, starting to unpack the bags.  The small apartment is quickly filled with the sinful smell of fried food and seasoned vegetables.  The dogs eagerly circling his feet quickly devolve into a panting mess.
“We’ve talked about this,” Kakashi chastises Biscuit, who is not nearly tall enough to reach the counter but nevertheless tries, standing on his short hind legs and nose snuffling frantically back and forth along the edge of the counter like it's being pulled by an invisible fishing line.  He’s going to have to deal with them first if there’s to be any chance of getting the food safety to the table.
“Hey, give me a hand, will ya?” he calls to Sasuke as he wades through the dogs to get to the cabinet with the cups and plates.  They get impossibly more hysterical at the sound of the clinking dishes, a tell-tale sign that they’re almost close to the main event.  This isn’t the first time it’s occurred to Kakashi that this apartment is too small for two people, let alone eight dogs.
“Oh, for the love of- Sasuke.”
Sasuke, it turns out, isn’t listening - or so it would appear given that Kakashi’s appearance hasn’t prompted anything but deafening nothing since he walked through the door.  However, Kakashi has lived with Sasuke for a couple years and observed him for longer.  He’s learned to read the subtle shifts in the boy's silences.  Sasuke has so much to say if one takes the time to listen.
Sating his (and the dogs’) appetite suddenly doesn’t seem so pressing.
“Alright, have at it,” Kakashi relents, dumping the contents of one of the take-out cartons onto the plate and setting it down at his feet for the dogs to fight over.  He’ll clean up the mess later.  For now, he grabs the carton of udon, a pair of chopsticks, and leaves the dogs to their feast, carefully stepping over them and making his way out to Sasuke.
He sits down, looking far more relaxed than his much younger counterpart.  Sasuke’s eyes remain downturned and concentrated on his homework.  Kakashi lets him be and turns his attention to his food.  He can multi-task after all.  He breaks apart his chopsticks and opens the carton, then picks at the noodles a bit before twirling them around and raising a helping into his mouth.  It doesn’t quite pack the punch he’d been fantasizing about on his walk home from the shop.
“Trouble with homework?” Kakashi eventually asks, his tone light.
The pen in Sasuke’s hand stills.  Then, after a moment - and without meeting his gaze - Sasuke slides a folder across the table with his free hand.
Kakashi’s chewing slows and he looks over his carton.  Sasuke is content with providing no further explanation, already pursuing his assignment like nothing happened.
Kakashi doesn’t need to read past the over-the-top swirly cursive heading to know what’s soured Sasuke’s mood.  The pink and read hearts dotting the top of the single sheet of paper tucked neatly in the folder’s pocket are a dead giveaway.  He shuts the folder, then picks up the carton and digs into his noodles a little more enthusiastically than before.
“So… it’s that time of year, huh?”
Sasuke makes no indication that he’s heard his question.  Kakashi understands.  He would have had a similar reaction at his age.  But he’d like Sasuke to be different.
“Should be simple enough,” he goes on, surreptitiously glancing up from his carton, but Sasuke is stubborn.  And naive.  Because Sasuke has already given himself up.
In some ways, Sasuke is exceptionally mature for his age.  But at the end of the day, he is still a twelve-year-old boy and not immune to acting as such.  He’s not above shutting himself up in his room and blaring his music at some wholly unnecessary volume until neighbors get involved (“This is the only apartment complex in Konoha that will take 8 dogs,” Kakashi is reduced to shouting through the door in his bathrobe and slippers at 1 in the morning.  “Are you trying to get us kicked out?”), or staying out much too late roaming the streets and only slipping through his bedroom window when he thinks Kakashi is in bed (He’s not.  He’s (once again) in his bathrobe and slippers waiting outside his bedroom door and prepping a lecture that is sure to be ill-received.)
In other words, if he truly wanted to avoid facing Kakashi, he wouldn’t be here.
So Kakashi waits.
And waits.
And waits.
Until…
“Look, Sasuke-”
“It’s so- annoying.”
Sasuke glowers at the space in front of him, refusing to look at Kakashi.  It was a slip, one he quickly recovers from, however.  The grip around his pen tightens and he attacks the page in front of him with conviction.  He’s clearly annoyed.  With himself, with the predicament Iruka has so unjustly put him in.  Kakashi allows him a couple sentences to take his frustration out on his assignment before moving forward.
“I think it’s nice.”
Sasuke drops his pen and his head snaps up.
“Nice?”  He says the word with such fierce disdain that Kakashi can’t help but chuckle.  He merely picks at his noodles with amusement.
“Nice??” Sasuke repeats, eyes narrowing incredulously.  “As if you would have ever lowered yourself to something so meaningless.”
Kakashi chews thoughtfully.  He’s not wrong.  Still, he simply shrugs.
“Sure, it’s a little silly.  But there are very few things in life that are truly meaningless.  What holds no value to one person could mean the world to another.”  He pauses.  The intensity of Sasuke’s stare doesn’t waver.  “There’s nothing wrong with building relationships among your peers and having a little fun.  A hard word for you, I know,” he adds dryly, poking at a mushroom, “But give it a shot.  These opportunities won’t be around forever.”
“I don’t even like these people,” Sasuke mutters with a bitterness that most adults would find unnerving coming from a 12-year-old.
(He knows; his colleagues have told him as much.)
“That’s not true.  You have Naruto and Sakura-”
“Annoying and annoying-er.”
Kakashi frowns a little at that.  He sets the carton aside.  “Look, I’m going to tell you what I told you last year.  If you really don’t want to do this, I’m not going to make you.  I’ll understand… but your friends might not.  And despite what you say, when your classmates come to you with their cards, I think you’re going to realize too late that you might like to give them something in return.”
Kakashi lets the words sink in.  Sasuke’s expression is unreadable.  It takes some time - a long time, really - but eventually, his shoulders slump forward, and after a tense moment, he relents.
“Fine.”
“Good,” Kakashi says, satisfaction evident in his tone.  “I think we still have supplies leftover from last year somewhere in here,” he muses aloud, rising from the table and disappearing into the hall that leads to their respective bedrooms.  The sound of him rummaging around in the hall closet fills the air until eventually a pleased Ah interrupts the silence.  When Kakashi returns cradling an assortment of craft supplies in his arms, Sasuke looks as though he’s already regretting his decision.
“Here, I’ll even do it with you,” Kakashi says in a show of solidarity once he spreads out his findings on the table.  There’s still several paper heart cut-outs leftover from the previous year.  Kakashi’s hand hovers thoughtfully over the pile before making his selection and pulling them towards his end of the table.
A sharp, derisive snort comes from the seat next to him.  Kakashi looks up.
“Yes?”
“There’s no way you have that many people to give valentines to,” Sasuke retorts with all the bluntness of a kunai knife.
Kakashi blinks at him, then peers down at the pile, a puzzled frown tugging at his brow underneath his silver fringe like Sasuke’s right.  That he’s made some sort of horrible mistake.  A split-second later, his expression clears.
“Actually,” he replies, reaching across the table and grabbing an additional heart, “I missed one.  How could I forget my most cherished pup?”  He shakes his head somberly, giving Sasuke a meaningful look.
It takes Sasuke a moment to understand.
“You’re making valentines for the dogs.”  It’s not a question, and there’s no mistaking what he thinks about that.
“Well,” Kakashi acquiesces, eyes crinkling, “I can’t play favorites.”
They hold each other’s gaze.  Despite the pleasant smile Kakashi puts forward, Sasuke’s eyes remain cold and unfeeling.
In the end, Kakashi exhales a patient breath.
“Go get dinner, Sasuke.”
It's going to be a long night.
* * *
It’s when he’s sorting through his mail on Valentine’s Day that Kakashi runs into Iruka.
“Yo.”  The word is barely out of his mouth before being promptly met with an angry grunt, after which Iruka slams his apartment door shut so violently that the decorative Cupid hanging there falls to the floor.
Kakashi slow-blinks down the empty hallway, hand halfway raised in greeting.  With a small shake of his head, he sticks the mail under his arm and digs into his pocket for his keys.
The dogs are on him the instant he opens the door.  Unfazed, he glances around the apartment expecting to hear the sounds of Sasuke’s self-imposed banishment to his room, the kind that expressly tells him that under no circumstances is he to be disturbed.  Only there’s no pulsating bass.  It’s quiet.  And Sasuke’s not in his room but on the couch by the open sliding glass door, back propped against a slumbering Bull and a book open in his lap.  He surprises Kakashi further when he deigns to look up.
“Hey.”
“Hey,” Kakashi greets back, closing the door behind him.  It should be a welcomed sight, but he can’t help but feel a little wary.  It’s not often that he sees Sasuke so... at peace.
He walks over to the kitchen and drops the mail on the counter beside what can only be the fruits of his and Sasuke’s labor.  He smiles to himself.
Popular as ever, I see.
With a sense of satisfaction, he sifts through the sizable pile of valentines, familiar names popping out at him.  He pauses on one in particular.  Sakura’s careful craftsmanship stands out from the rest, the evidence of her feelings clear as day.  Kakashi only hopes that Sasuke didn’t say anything unkind.
Naruto’s stands out too - though, for entirely different reasons.
“I see Naruto’s scissor skills haven’t improved.”  With two fingers, Kakashi picks up the pitiful thing and gives it a good once over.  He can only assume that it was supposed to be a heart, though he can’t be sure.  It’s a sharp contrast to Sakura’s, which Kakashi knows she probably spent days laboring over.  A glob of glitter glue drips from Naruto’s abstract creation pinched between his fingers and drops onto the counter.  He shakes his head and hangs it up on the fridge anyway, Sakura’s joining soon after.  He lingers on them for a moment, eyes crinkling with a familiar fondness before he turns away to join Sasuke in the living room.
“I take it everything went well today,” he says, plopping down onto the adjoining couch and humming contentedly when he props his feet on the coffee table and leans back.  Pakkun leaps up and settles himself next to him, a low, warm growl rumbling underneath his hand when he begins to massage his wrinkled head.
“You could say that.”  Sasuke has his back to him, but Kakashi detects something in his voice.
“Meaning?”
There’s a pause before Sasuke shuts his book and looks over his shoulder at Kakashi.  “Let’s just say I got what I wanted for Valentine’s Day.”
What Sasuke wanted for Valentine’s Day was for all its practices to be dismantled and done away with for the greater good of humanity - or so he claimed in a rare moment of awakeness on their way to the academy that morning.  Somehow Kakashi doesn’t think exchanging a couple valentines with his classmates is responsible for this drastic - some may say, miraculous - shift in perspective.
“This wouldn’t have anything to do with Iruka, would it?”  He jerks his thumb at the door.  “I just ran into him in the hallway and he didn’t look too happy.”
The corner of Sasuke’s mouth twitches, but he only shrugs, facing forward and cracking open his book once more.
Kakashi exchanges a look with Pakkun whose doleful eyes stare up at him, equally suspicious and, if he’s not mistaken, wholeheartedly unimpressed.  With some reluctance, Kakashi swings his legs off the coffee table and gets to his feet in one languid motion.  He crosses the short distance to where Sasuke sits, plucking the book out of his hands as he comes up behind him.
“Hey!”
“I’d like your undivided attention for this if you don’t mind,” Kakashi says calmly, perching himself on the arm of the couch, one foot on the ground, the other propped on the seat cushion.  Sasuke glares at him resentfully, but keeps his mouth shut, albeit with the air of one whose time is being profoundly wasted.
“Ok,” Kakashi starts, folding his arms across his chest.  “What happened at school today?”
“Nothing.”
“Sasuke.”
“Nothing,” Sasuke repeats, drawing out the word.  When Kakashi continues to stare at him, he huffs in irritation.  “Tch, I didn’t do anything.”
“I didn’t say you did,” Kakashi replies smoothly.  “However, it’s not like you to take pleasure at Iruka’s expense.  I thought you liked Iruka.”
There’s a pause.  Sasuke averts his eyes out the window, uncomfortable.  A gentle breeze rustles the overgrown jungle habitating the balcony.
“Yeah, I do,” he confirms grudgingly.
“Ok,” Kakashi continues ever so patiently, “so what’s got you in such a good mood?”
There’s another long pause.  However, this time it’s Kakashi who breaks the silence.  The answer hits him over the head and leaves him feeling - if he’s perfectly honest - like a fool.
“What did Naruto do this time?”
Sasuke hasn’t looked away from the window, but Kakashi sees a flicker of something cross his face.
“Well?”
Sasuke mulls it over, then simply relies, “Naruto was very generous with his valentines this year."
An image of the limp heart dripping with barely dried glue on their fridge comes to Kakashi’s mind.  “How generous are we talking?”
“500 ryō worth.”
Kakashi can see where this is going.  He suppresses a sigh.
“And where on earth did Naruto get the money for such a selfless gesture?”
Sasuke’s eyes slide to meet Kakashi’s.  “Iruka.”
“Knowingly?”
A flash of annoyance flares in Sasuke’s dark eyes, again, like he’s wasting his time.  In fairness, he is; the answer is obvious.
Kakashi leans his head back against the bookshelf behind him and briefly closes his eyes.  A sigh falls heavily from his lips.
“Well, as long as he doesn’t come knocking on our door looking for money…”  He glances down at Sasuke.  “Was it worth it, at least?”
“Was what worth it?”
“Whatever it was that constituted stealing 500 ryō?”
Sasuke’s eyes narrow almost imperceptibly, but his reply is void of any feeling.  “How should I know?  I’m not Sakura.  Now, do you mind?  I was in the middle of something.”  He holds out his hand then, waiting.
Kakashi regards him with patience, not entirely content to end the conversation there.  It’s the familiar way in which Sasuke holds his hand out to him that cautions him to hold back.  Patience, it whispers.  Remember how you found him.  Reading.  At peace.  At home.
He hands the book to Sasuke, who takes it without thanks, and thinks as he watches him leaf through its pages and settle against Bull that he could do with some light reading too.

Kakashi’s Story- Chapter One
Nanara acting like his first impression of Kakashi is that he’s a ‘sloppy man’ when he JUST called him handsome. Boy you’re just mad you have to study lol
Even worse he thinks Kakashi will be ‘too easy too care off’. Kid’s in for one heck of a surprise and i can’t wait
Kakashi acting like he knows nothing about himself😂😂😂
‘What a waste of a life’ Nanara shhhh it’s ok you’ll take those words back soon enough.
Kakashi doesn’t even waste time calling out the Prime ministers lack of care for Nanara. I love it, destroy that pos.
Prime minister was already a dirt bag but he also locked away the library? Triple dirt bag. Supreme dirt bag!
I love that Kakashi just opens the library without hesitation. Don’t get between him and books, it won’t end well for you lol
Using fire to melt the inside of the keyhole! Especially funny because i remember @wind-becomes-lightning telling me Sasuke thought Kakashi would kick a door in in Sasuke retsudon XD
Rules and regulations are important but they go in the trash if they prevent you from reading. Love this. This is the best boy right here.
Nanara has an opportunity to explore the library and get whatever he wants, and of course he searches for a book about the sixth hokage lol
Kakashi using Nanara’s favorite book to get him excited for learning how to read and write. This man knows how to teach.
Somehow ‘reading would be better than playing outside’ is the perfect Kakashi line.
‘If he’s not going to play with me he’s useless’ LIES
The village aunties are gushing about kakashi and honestly, who can blame them? He is a handsome man.
Nanara stop acting like you didn’t call him handsome yourself XD
Naming a foul Pakkun. Kakashi’s hounds would be so proud but i wonder how Pakkun would feel having a horse named after him lol.
Pakkun shoots beams out of his mouth now? And is huge? These stories are really something lol
Kakashi using wind style to save Nanara from the horse! He has now used 3/5 of the elements and NONE of them are his nature type or the first style he used (lighting and earth). I love the representation of his ability to use all of the elements. It’s perfect!
Kakashi the horse whisperer Ahhhhh
Kakashi always finds trouble when he goes for a walk XD no wonder Shikamaru seemed so stressed in Konohan Shinden when Kakashi was talking about taking walks 😂😂😂
All the women sneaking peaks at Kakashi while cooking. This man just cannot escape people wanting to sneak a peak at him.
Kakashi is so weak for animals and the falcon rubbing its head against him for treats is such a cool mental image!!!
Kakashi getting distracted and forgetting to watch the stuff he’s cooking is such a mood.
Kakashi calling it brave to build a village far away from the rest of the world to avoid war. Does part of him wish Konoha has done that? Does he wonder if maybe he’d never would have had to lose all the people he did if the higher ups in Konoha decided to put their people’s safety first?
Telling Nanara all about shinobi was so cute and showing how a Hokage who wants the best for their people thinks. I love seeing him discuss trading and working together with other villages for mutual benefit. You can see just how he was thinking when he was running Konoha and the ideals he fell back on to do better for his village.
‘During the time of the sixth hokage, the land of fire saw unprecedented economic development and grew rapidly’ this line needs to be stamped everywhere for fandom. I love that Kakashi got to be the peace time Hokage because he was the absolute best option for that. No one else could have grown Konoha in the same way Kakashi did.
I love that we get to see Kakashi in teacher mode. Like the manga skipped over him actually teaching his students a lot and only gave us small glimpses, but seeing how he made learning fun for Nanara is so cute and wholesome and displays just how good of a teacher he really is.
Kakashi telling Nanara about his favorite book and offering to lend it to him when he’s older 😭😭😭😂😂
Aww Nabara is so proud of his big sister 💜💜💜
