bitter/sweet
a Dr. Jack Abbot one-shot (The Pitt)
pairing: Jack Abbot x f!reader
summary: when a stubbornly charming chef keeps showing up in his ER, Dr. Jack Abbot finds it harder and harder to ignore the pull toward something—or someone—he didn't plan for…
warnings/tags: slow burn, hurt/comfort, grumpy x sunshine, food as a love language, age gap, fainting/medical emergency, mild language
word count: 5.5k
a/n: my new hyperfixation i guess ???
“Fuck,” you grumbled, clutching your thumb in a blood-soaked kitchen towel, the fibers more crimson than cotton. The pain throbbed in pulses, each step sending a sharp reminder up your arm. You kept your eyes on the linoleum floors, following the resident as he led you deeper into the chaos of the emergency department and into an exam room.
“Oh,” the resident, Student Doctor Whittaker, said, his voice pitchy as he glanced at the kitchen towel. He quickly averted his eyes, his Adam’s apple bobbing nervously. “Yeah, maybe we should keep that wrapped.”
You arched a brow at him, settling onto the exam table as the paper crinkled beneath you. The air in the room smelled sterile – alcohol wipes, latex gloves, and that faint antiseptic sting. “You’re not afraid of a little blood, are you? Because hate to be the one to tell you – you might be in the wrong profession.”
He gave a nervous laugh. “No, no – just… been a rough day,” he said, the humor dropping from his voice. “Can’t really handle another loss.”
You paused, tone softening. “Oh. Well, don’t worry. I’ll be fine.” You glanced down at the towel, now visibly seeping. “Did you get a hold of my sister?”
He shook his head, eyes already shifting toward the door. “I tried, but she’s in the OR; still scrubbed in. But, don’t worry; Dr. Abbot is the attending on call tonight. He’s one of the best – ”
You frowned. “Abbot? Where’s Robby?”
Before he could answer, the door opened and a tall man entered the room, pulling on a pair of nitrile gloves with a practiced snap. His scrubs were black, sleeves rolled to the elbow, and his expression was carved from stone. His salt-and-pepper hair was short but wavy; he easily had fifteen or twenty years on you… Still, he was cute.
“Well,” he began, his voice low and even, “It’s almost nine, and contrary to popular belief, even Robby needs to go home and rest. So, lucky you – you get me.”
You blinked. “Wow, smart and pretty. Lucky me indeed.”
He gave a subtle eye roll before his gaze met yours – steady, unreadable, deeply hazel. “So, what’ve we got?”
Whittaker stumbled to present. “Uh – female, 27. Has a deep laceration on her thumb. Cut it open on a grater – ”
“Mandoline slicer,” you corrected.
Abbot moved toward you, taking a seat on the wheeled stool. As he unwrapped your hand, you couldn’t help but ask, “Careful – you’re not gonna get queasy, too, are you?”
Without missing a beat, he stoically answered, “Only if this turns into something worse than a hand injury… like small talk.”
You let out a surprised laugh, half from the pain, half from how dryly he delivered the line.
“You’re funny,” you grinned. “I like you.”
He said nothing in response, merely peeled the cloth away, sticky and crimson, revealing the deep gash across the side of your thumb. Cold air kissed the open skin, and you hissed. He examined it without a flinch, gently turning your hand between his fingers.
“So, what were you doing with the mandoline slicer?”
“I’m a chef,” you answered. “The prep rush was insane today – guess my hand just slipped.”
He pressed carefully at the space between your thumb and index finger. You flinched, instinctively pulling back, but his other hand caught yours firmly, anchoring it.
“What?” you asked, watching his expression shift as he looked up.
“Stitches,” he decided.
“Fuck that.”
He arched his brow. “It’s a deep cut; can’t just put a bandaid on it and kiss it better.”
“Well, that’s because you haven’t tried,” you flirted, finding it to be an easy distraction from the pain. Still, his face remained unchanged. “Come on, are you serious? You really can’t just wrap it up and call it a day? I have to get back before the dinner rush.”
“It’s not optional,” he informed. “It’s not gonna heal if it’s not stitched up.”
“Don’t worry,” Whittaker piped up again, voice chipper. “Dr. Abbot could do this in his sleep.”
“I could,” Abbot said, already reaching for gauze. “But Whittaker’s going to do it instead.”
“What?” You both asked, heads whipping to him.
“It’s a good learning opportunity,” he replied casually. “And Robby’s always goin’ on about how we’re a teaching hospital. Besides, it’s just a few stitches – a teenager could do it.”
“A teenager is about to do it,” you muttered.
“He’s older than you,” Abbot pointed out, making your frown set on him.
“I want you to do it.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because he got queasy just looking at the kitchen towel,” you explained. You and Abbot both turned to Whittaker, who looked like he’d rather be anywhere else. “It’s either you, or I wait for my sister to finish surgery,” you stubbornly gave him an ultimatum. “And she told me about those patient satisfaction scores.” You let out a low whistle.
Abbot stared at you for a beat, then turned to the student doctor. “Whittaker.”
“Yes, sir?”
“Go get me the lidocaine.”
You grinned in victory before offering your hand back out to Abbot.
“You’re impossible, you know that?” he muttered, arms crossing.
“You and my sister should start a support group,” you shot back.
He huffed out a laugh. “Yeah, maybe we will.”
When Whittaker returned, Abbot explained the procedure before getting to work: numbing first, then the sutures, probably six or seven. His voice was calm, precise. You clenched your other hand into a fist, eyes fixed anywhere but the needle. The sting of the lidocaine made your jaw tense.
“Ready?” Abbot asked. You nodded silently, lips pressed tight.
His hands were rough but skilled, careful – you could sense it.
As your eyes gazed over the room, they settled on the chain tucked beneath the neck of Abbot’s scrubs.
“Military?” you asked, voice quieter now as your free hand reached out to pull at the dog tags.
Without looking up, Abbot momentarily halted his work to swat your hand away. When your hand settled back by your side, he replied, “Used to be a medic. Liked the chaos so much, I went to med school for emergency medicine.”
You winced as one of the stitches tugged. “You good?” he asked, glancing up.
You gave him a wry look. “If I cry, will you hold my hand?”
“I’m already holding your hand,” he deadpanned.
You rolled your eyes. “Fine. Then, buy me dinner? Or, let me buy you dinner, at Francesca.”
“Francesca?” Whittaker perked up. “Wait – you work there?” You nodded, smiling. “That’s cool. I’ve heard some of the other residents talking about it. They really love the food.”
You turned back to Abbot with a pointed smile. “See? Good food, good company – what more could you ask for?”
“Probably some peace and quiet,” he muttered. But, before you could press, he was already tying off the sutures and wrapping your hand with fresh gauze.
“So,” you said eventually, “what’s the damage?”
“You’re a rightie?” he asked; you nodded. “It’s your dominant hand. That, and the fact that restaurants have a high risk of infection – wet, hot, high-contact. It’s gonna take a minute to heal. Probably five days off work to initially heal and reduce strain; another five until you’re back to full-duty – and when you are, make sure you wear some sort of splint or gloves. Come back then and I’ll take ‘em out. Sound good?”
A week off work.
You already knew you weren’t waiting that long.
Still, you grinned up at him. “Whatever you say, handsome.”
Two weeks later––four days after you were meant to get your stitches out––you finally found yourself back in the hospital. You couldn’t say you missed the bright fluorescent lights or the constant beeping of machines – you weren’t sure how your sister did it every day.
You did, however, miss Dr. Tall, Dark, and Broody.
That’s what you’d started calling Dr. Abbot in all your conversations with your sister. She’d blinked at you, been less amused, and professionally corrected you every time you brought him up.
“You mean ‘Jack’?” She’d say, and you’d grinned at that, ready to use this ammunition against him.
And, even though you had every intention to return earlier so you could see Jack sooner, work at the restaurant had gotten busy. Between a busted oven and two line cooks calling out, you’d been elbow-deep in chaos. You’d barely been convinced by Eleni, your sous, to come back even now. She had to practically push you out the front door.
Taylor, the charge nurse who brought you in, gave a smile as she informed you, “Dr. Whittaker will be in in just a few minutes.”
Your spine straightened immediately. “Actually, can you get Dr. Abbot? Tall one with the storm cloud for a personality. You know the one.”
Taylor nearly dropped her tablet laughing. “Oh, I like you,” she said, already halfway out the door. “Let me see what I can do.”
Luckily, it seemed like a slow night in the ED––well, slower than usual––and in a few minutes, your request had been granted.
“You know,” Abbot said by way of greeting when he entered the room, “you don’t get to request a specific doctor in the ED. That’s not how it works.”
You tilted your head. “Yeah? Then how come you showed up?”
He ignored that. “Why didn’t you let Whittaker take them out?” He already sounded annoyed, and it brought you much more glee than it should’ve. “You know he’s perfectly capable of removing stitches. And putting them in.”
“And pass up another moment of your stellar bedside manner? Now, why would I do that… Jack?” You smiled sweetly.
His eyes flicked up fast at the sound of his first name. “I hate your sister,” he muttered, more to himself than to you.
“She’s the best and you know it.”
Instead of arguing, Jack gently pulled the wrap from your hand. His fingertips were warm through the gloves, deliberate in their movements as he examined the injury.
“You didn’t wait the five days before going back to work,” he said flatly, frown setting in.
Your brows furrowed. “What are you talking about? Of course I did – In fact I – ”
You cut yourself off when you saw the look he gave you. All stern disapproval and low-simmering frustration – hot. And in a moment, you crumbled.
“Okay, okay, fine – but I took three days off! That has to count for something! I was going stir-crazy in my apartment, Jack.” You squirmed under his gaze.
He let out a deep sigh, eyes rolling to the back of his head. “You’re gonna be the death of me,” he grumbled, brows pinched slightly as he prepped the suture scissors in that deliberate, quiet way of his.
You couldn’t watch as he moved with steady practiced precision. Instead, your eyes settled back on his dog tags and after a moment of silence, you asked in a soft voice, “How could you tell? That I went back to work early?”
He met your eyes then, frowning. After a beat, he answered. “The skin around is red, irritated. The inflammation just started going down. You should’ve come in early if you were gonna go back to work. I said day 10.”
“I know.”
Dryly, he continued, “This is day fourteen.”
“I know, Jack.” You frowned now too. “You know, if you keep on like this, you’re not getting your present.”
That was when he noticed the light pink bag that sat on the chair by the exam table.
“I brought you something. As a thank you for stitching me up.”
Jack tilted his head to the side. “Not a bribe to soften the blow because you knew I’d know you went back to work early?”
You smiled up at him, this time in a way that asked for his forgiveness. “Why can’t it be both?”
Jack rolled his eyes, then began removing your stitches. “It’s healing,” he noted, “but slower than it should be. You pushed it too hard.”
“I was careful,” you defended. “I let Eleni do all the chopping and lifting heavy pans – I just ran the line… and plated.”
Jack hummed, observing. “You’re holding tension through your whole arm. That’s not careful.”
You opened your mouth to protest, but just then, he snipped one of the sutures and you flinched with a hiss of discomfort. His hands paused immediately, and his expression shifted – not annoyed this time, but concerned.
“Still hurts?” he asked, quieter.
You tried to play it off, half-laughing. “Hurts less than not being in the kitchen.”
Jack sighed again, shaking his head. “You think I’m impressed by your stubbornness?”
You gave a crooked grin. “No, but I think you like it.”
He didn’t answer, just focused on removing the next stitch. Silence stretched between you, the only sound the soft snip of scissors. When he finally leaned back, he said, “Okay, that’s the last one. Take it easy, okay? I mean it. Just plating for now – carefully.”
You lifted your head. “And if I don’t? You going to come hold my hand through the dinner rush?”
Jack rolled his eyes. “I’ll come by the kitchen if I have to.”
You watched him, smile growing. “Still thinking about saying yes to that dinner I offered?”
Just as quick, he quipped, “I’m thinking about you not landing in my ER again.”
Your brow rose. “Keep it up and you’re not getting the tiramisu.”
As he was wrapping your hand in new gauze, his gaze flickered up to meet yours. “Tiramisu?”
“My sister said you wouldn’t stop talking about it a few days ago. Got a craving.”
“Yeah, for DiAnoia’s,” Jack corrected.
When he was done wrapping your hand, you hopped off the exam table and offered him the light pink bag, with a tiramisu boxed inside.
“It’s better than DiAnoia’s,” you promised, already halfway to the door.
He snorted at that, not believing you. “But, be careful, it's sweet. Might clash with the whole brooding thing you’ve got going on.”
“I don’t brood,” he called after you.
You turned at the doorway, walking backward as you smirked. “Yeah? Tell that to your face.”
Then, you spun on your heel, feeling his gaze on you as you let the door swing closed behind you.
You couldn’t tell if the emergency room was changing or if you were just getting used to it. The fluorescent lights felt ambient now, the loud chatter muffled, and the beep of vital machines now felt distant.
“Miss me?” You grinned up at Jack as he strolled towards the nurse’s station. You leaned casually against the counter, trying not to let your excitement show too much.
Without looking up from the chart in his hands, he replied, “Still haven’t recovered from the last time.”
You glanced over at Taylor, who sat typing behind the station, and dropped her a wink. “That’s not a no,” you stage-whispered, giggling.
Jack finally looked at you then, eyes tired but alert, like your voice had stirred him awake. “What are you doing here?” he asked, handing off the chart to Taylor.
“What, can’t a girl visit her local cute, broody doctor?”
“I already told you I’m not that,” he frowned.
You tilted your head. “Cute?” you asked, pretending to be confused.
He narrowed his eyes on you. “Broody.”
“Right,” you nodded solemnly. “Of course not.”
The silence between you lingered a second longer than expected – long enough for you to catch the faint circles under his eyes, the crease between his brows. His scrubs looked wrinkled, like he’d been running nonstop since the start of shift. Your smile softened.
“I’m dropping some food off.”
His brows furrowed now. “For me?”
Your smile only widened, but faltered just a touch as you took in just how off he looked, a little out of rhythm. That bone-deep kind of tired. You wondered if he’d eaten at all tonight.
“For my sister,” you said lightly, though your feet were already carrying you toward the break room. You grabbed a paper plate and plastic fork, and returned just as quickly. You set the plate down and began undoing the takeaway box you’d packed.
“Wait,” Jack started, a note of warning in his voice – he already knew where this was going. You ignored him, and scooped a generous portion of pasta onto the plate before sliding it his way. The steam curled up toward Jack’s face.
“Try some.”
He sighed, saying your name like it was both a complaint and a surrender.
“Come on,” you coaxed. “Just a bite. And if you hate it, I’ll leave you alone.”
He gave you a long-suffering look – but brought the fork to his mouth anyway. The first bite had his eyes fluttering closed, just for a second. A soft sound escaped him – barely audible, but unmistakable. You caught it.
“That was a compliment,” you accused, pointing at him with a victorious grin. “I heard it! Everyone heard it!” You turned dramatically to Taylor, who watched with a dry amusement before shuffling over to a patient’s room.
Jack rolled his eyes. “Ok, hotshot, relax. It’s just pasta. Hard to mess it up.”
You scoffed. “You’d be surprised.” He shrugged, and you took it as a challenge. “Okay, then what? What can I make to convince you it’s not just luck – it’s these magic hands.” To make a point, you wiggled your fingers.
To your surprise, he actually gave it some thought. A flicker of memory seemed to pass through him. His voice was quieter when he spoke.
“There was this dish we used to get when I was in the military – in this little town outside Kabul. Locals made it in the market stalls. It was kind of like a lamb stew, over some flatbread. Spicy. Kinda messy to eat. But damn good.”
You blinked, surprised he’d offered to share something so personal. You cleared your throat, softly asking, “You were stationed in Afghanistan?”
Realizing the slip-up, Jack shrugged it off like he regretted saying anything. His eyes drifted to a fixed point behind you.
“Jack,” you said softly, reaching out to place a hand over his, which rested on the counter of the nurse’s station. The gentle tone of your voice kept him from pulling his hand out from underneath yours. If anything, that, alongside the glint in your big eyes, made him want to spill everything.
“It was the 68W program – for combat medics,” he revealed, using his free hand to pull the dog tags from under his scrub top. “Standard issue accessory.”
“I disagree,” you murmured, playful but sincere. “I’ve heard medics are some of the toughest ones in the room.”
Jack let out a tiny almost-smile. “We were just the ones who didn’t get to shoot back.”
You paused, then asked, “What was it called? The dish.”
He thought for a second. “I don’t remember. I think maybe – palau something – or – I don’t know. Doesn't matter.”
You shook your head, heart melting. “If it stuck with you… it matters.”
Jack didn’t say anything to that, but his gaze found yours again – direct. You caught him staring. He didn’t look away.
“If you keep staring at me like that, I’m going to think you like me,” you teased, tone light.
He didn’t even deny it, just shook his head – either in denial or disbelief, you couldn’t tell.
“That’s okay. I like you enough for the both of us.”
That brought a pink tinge to his cheeks.
Instead of bringing attention to it, you simply offered a half-smile. “Okay. Challenge accepted. One mystery lamb dish, coming up.”
At that, Jack raised a skeptical brow. “You’re gonna recreate something I haven’t eaten in ten years, from a place you’ve never been, with no recipe?”
You shrugged. “Maybe it’ll finally convince you to come to the restaurant.”
And there it was – just for a second. The edge of a smile. Maybe even the beginning of a laugh. You nudged his side with your elbow.
“Admit it. You’re rooting for me.”
Jack just shook his head, but didn’t speak. Didn’t stop smiling either. Didn’t even say no.
The next time Jack saw you in the hospital, the occasion was less momentous. You didn’t have a light pink box with the Francesca logo on it and a sweet treat––or Afghani dish––inside. You weren’t your happy, bubbly self jumping around the place. Forget jumping, you weren’t even on your feet.
You were in a hospital bed, fluids pumping steadily through an IV line taped to your arm. into your veins through IVs. Your sister, elbows resting on the edge of the bed, was scrolling through her phone with the ease of someone used to hospitals – until Jack stumbled in.
His eyes immediately found yours, and whatever breath he’d been holding on the way in came out sharp.
“Every day you’re here – you come and find me. Every day,” he said, voice low and urgent. “So, what changed today? Why was Robby the one to tell me you fainted?”
You and your sister exchanged a glance. She was already putting her phone down, her expression turning serious.
“Because it literally happened an hour ago…?” you offered, wincing a little. “And that’s still day shift.”
Jack raked a hand through his hair, frustration evident in every sharp movement.
“Robby had it covered,” your sister said, trying to calm Jack.
It didn’t help.
“Did he do an ECG?”
“Yes.”
“Echocardiogram?”
“Yes, Jack,” she sighed.
“What about a head CT?
You frowned. “Why would he do a CT?”
“Because you probably hit your head when you fell.”
You let out a breath, rolling your eyes. “I didn’t hit my head.”
“How do you know?”
“Because Eleni caught me.”
Jack’s eyes bounced between you and your sister. “This happened at work?” You nodded, slowly. “Did this happen because of work?”
Suddenly, you were having a hard time meeting his eye.
To make matters worse, your sister answered for you. “She was covering for one of the other line chefs, stressed about a critic visit – Eleni said she was barely sleeping – ”
“The critic’s a big deal!” you defended, “and Luca was getting burnt out. He needed a break.”
“No, babe,” your sister cut in, not unkindly, “You need a break.”
Jack stepped closer to the bed, scanning the IV bag. His fingers brushed against your arm, checking the line, then pressing gently against your wrist. “Did Robby hook her up to saline?”
Your sister nodded.
“What about electrolytes? She’s dehydrated.”
“He – ” Your sister paused, then asked, a little surprised, “How did you know that?”
“Her lips are dry,” Jack responded, as if it was obvious. “She squints every time she looks up at the lights. And her leg is tense – probably cramping earlier.”
You and your sister shared another look, then you grinned up at him, pushing his hand away from your arm to grab it in yours, warm and steady. “What?” he asked, brow furrowed.
“You were worried about me,” you grinned, all grin and no apology.
He exhaled deeply, rubbing his free hand defeatedly over his face. “Oh, my God. You fainted and this is what you’re focused on?”
You gave him a small shrug. “I’m fine.”
And, truthfully, you were starting to feel better. Color was returning to your cheeks, and the constant throb behind your eyes had dulled to a whisper. The IVs were helping; the rest, too.
A voice crackled over the intercom, paging your sister to OR 3. She stood, hesitating.
“Go,” you said, waving her off. “I’ll be fine. Go back to work.”
“Fine, but tell someone to page me when they discharge you. I’ll get someone to drive you home.”
You rolled your eyes but nevertheless nodded. As she stepped out, Jack moved to sit on the edge of the chair beside your bed, one hand running along the railing.
“How mad do you think she’s gonna be when I tell her you’re not going anywhere? I’m keeping you overnight.”
Your head whipped toward him. “What? Why?”
“For observation. I want to make sure it really was stress-related and not some underlying medical condition.”
You groaned, tilting your head back against your pillow. “Jack,” you groaned, frustrated by this decision.
“Oh, I know,” he mocked gently. “How could I do this to you? Keeping you overnight to make sure you’re healthy? I’m the worst.”
You huffed, crossing your arms over your chest as dramatically as you could manage while tethered to an IV.
“Don’t be like that,” he tried, his hand uncrossing yours. Then, the same hand lifted to gently cup your cheek. “You know, you didn’t have to faint just to get my attention. Could’ve just called.”
The blush that crept to your cheeks was immediate, and you cleared your throat, looking away. “Dr. Abbot with the jokes – never thought the day would come.”
“What can I say?” he replied with a shrug. “I’m a complex guy.”
He tugged your blanket higher, gently tucking it around you like it was second nature. “Now, get some sleep. I’ll come check on you in a bit.”
You nodded, already feeling the weight of exhaustion settle behind your eyes. As Jack slipped out, he left the curtain half-open so he could keep an eye on you from the nurse’s station or while he was passing by to other patient rooms.
Instead, you found your eyes drifting to him. Even through the haze of sleep, you watched him move through the ED like a controlled current – swift, focused, unshakable. He was in full command, teaching, managing, healing. Something about how intense yet calm he was eventually lulled you to sleep.
When you woke again, sunlight was peeking through the slats of the blinds, and Jack was beside your bed, carefully unhooking the IV line.
“Morning,” he greeted, voice soft as it pulled you from your deep slumber. “How are you feeling?”
You rubbed at the sleep in your eyes and let out a groggy sigh “Wow, thought I died and went to broody heaven.”
“I’ll take that as ‘fine,’” he said dryly, grabbing a paper cup of water he’d filled for you and maneuvering the straw toward your lips like it was muscle memory.
“Can I go home now?”
He nodded, his eyes still scanning your vitals, “Soon. Just gotta fill out your discharge paperwork and then shift’s over. I’ll drive you home.”
“Drive me home? I’m wearing you down, old man,” you grinned sleepily up at him.
He rolled his eyes, raising a hand to press the back of it to your forehead. “You feel okay? No headache? Dizziness? Nausea?”
“Good as new,” you promised, reaching for his hand and giving it a squeeze. “Must be these magic hands.”
He smiled at that, thumb brushing lightly over your knuckles before letting go.
“So,” you began as he signed off on your chart, “does being injured get me privileges?”
He arched a brow. “What kind of privileges?”
“Favors,” you said with a shrug. “Like you finally coming to the restaurant.”
Jack let out a low groan, head shaking. “It’s too early for this – you’re never gonna let that go, are you?”
“Not till you say yes. And, as you know, I’m very persistent.”
“Oh, I do know,” he said, then held his hand out. “Let me see your thumb.”
You blinked. “Why?”
Still, you offered it up. He examined it gently, brushing his fingers over the healing skin.
“When this heals completely, I’ll come to Francesca.”
You beamed. “In that case, let’s speed up the process…” You wiggled your thumb closer to his face. “Never did try that technique of kissing it better, huh?”
He gave you a look – but the smile tugging at his lips betrayed him. Then, without breaking eye contact, he leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to the pad of your thumb.
When he set it back down in your lap, your stomach fluttered.
“Now, can I take you home or are you going to make me do a blood oath first?”
“You’ve been burying the lede, Abbot,” you teased, making your presence known as you walked across the hospital rooftop and joined him on the concrete ledge. Your shoes scraped lightly against the gravel as you sat, legs swinging just off the edge.
He glanced over, brows furrowed in confusion. No one but Robby ever came up here.
“Taylor told me where you were,” you informed. “How many conversations have we had – and you never mentioned this place? Or the crazy views it has?”
The city was sprawled out below you, glittering the dark earth. A breeze tugged at your jacket, crisp with late night chill.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, checking his watch. 2:56am glowed dimly in the moonlight.
You shrugged, tucking your hands into your coat pockets. “Couldn’t sleep.”
His concern was immediate, instinctual. “Is it the stitches? Are you feeling dehydrated?” He was already reaching for you, fingertips brushing your wrist as if searching for a pulse.
“No, Jack,” you laughed, pushing his hands away. “I’m fine. I just… woke up with a thought.”
He stilled, waiting for you to explain what thought could’ve roused you out of bed in the middle of the night and forced you here.
You reached behind you and retrieved a familiar pink Francesca bag, the paper crinkling softly in your hands. In thick Sharpie ink, you’d scrawled his name with a lopsided heart beside it. His brows lifted in disbelief.
“No fucking way,” he murmured, greedy fingers snatching the food container out of the bag and tossing the lid aside like it might disappear if he wasn’t fast enough.
Inside sat the Afghani dish Jack had told you about that one day at the nurse’s station. The rich, spiced aroma was carried through the night air – saffron, cumin, caramelized carrots.
“It’s called qabili palau,” you offered, watching him tear a piece of naan, scoop up a mouthful, and take a bite. The moment the flavors hit his tongue, his eyes immediately rolled to the back of his head and he exhaled a quiet sound that was half-groan, half-moan.
“If you’re making those kinds of noises at my cooking, just imagine my skill in the bedroom,” you teased, flashing him a grin.
That earned you a look – but not one you expected. Quiet, intense. His mouth twitched at the corner like he was trying not to smile, and then he went back for another bite. And another. You watched him eat in silence, the wind occasionally rustling his curls, and you couldn’t help but feel the intimacy of the moment, on this quiet rooftop, and this ridiculous hour.
He quietly finished the food, sharing it with you. And, when the food was gone, his eyes drifted out across the skyline. He looked… lighter somehow. And it reminded you why you loved being a chef – because food had the power to take people home, even when they were miles and years away.
You nudged him. “Oh – I almost forgot!” You excitedly held your hand up like a prize, thumb out. The skin had healed cleanly, leaving not even a scar behind. “All better.”
His eyes found yours, amusement dancing in them. “I’m pretty sure I said when it’s healed, not the exact moment it is.”
You scooted closer to him, shoulders brushing, as you accused, “Oh, no. You’re not gonna get out of this.”
He shook his head at you, like he had countless times before, but this time… this time the look in his eyes changed. Slowed. Softened. Like he couldn’t quite believe you were real, sitting here, choosing him.
His smile faded as he lifted a hand to your face, brushing a windblown strand of hair behind your ear. “I wouldn’t want to,” he said softly.
And then he kissed you.
It wasn’t rushed – not some messy, passionate crush. It was slow, intentional. The kind of kiss that people waited a long, long time for. His lips were warm, and soft, and they fit perfectly against yours.
You melted into it, one hand curling around the front of his scrubs as the city disappeared beneath your closed eyelids. The hospital lights, the stars, the hum of distant traffic – it all faded until it was just the two of you. Just Jack.
When he finally pulled away, he didn’t go far – just rested his forehead against yours, his breath brushing across your skin as he murmured, “You know, you scare the hell out of me. Make it hard to stay behind the lines I drew.”
You smiled softly at that, brushing your thumb over the edge of his jaw. “Good. Means it’s real.”
There was a beat of quiet. Then, he gently took your hand again, turning it over to inspect your healed thumb. You rested your head against his shoulder, grinning – you both knew exactly what this meant.
He sighed dramatically, mocking defeat. “What’s the dress code?”
“No scrubs,” you teased.
“Button-up?”
“Only if it’s black. Very broody.”
“Deal,” he said, leaning in for another kiss.

⬩ author's note spooky season might be over but it's always halloween at the riley house! saw an addams family gif a little while ago and had to go back and watch the sitcom version from '64. i ended up not being able to stop imagining simon in a relationship like gomez and morticia's–passionate and completely devoted to each other and their family! i hope you enjoy this as much as i did writing it, as there is much more of the riley family to come! ⬩ word count 1.4k
You’re uncomfortable here. Simon can feel it without even having to look at you.
The lights are too bright in the headmaster’s office, as are all the colors decorating the walls around you. No wonder his little Raven comes home with a frown that reminds him of yours and stories that make the entire house groan.
It’s when you shift for the second time, sniffing and rolling your stiff shoulders, that Simon places a warm palm on the back of your neck. The man watches you carefully as you all but melt into the touch, sinking against his hand with a soft sigh. It takes you a moment but you finally turn your head to meet his eyes, a silent thank you oozing from them in the quiet. His response–a squeeze of his hand–works well to settle you.
“Just a little longer, my darling,” your husband murmurs softly, not having to lean very far in his chair to plant a lingering kiss on the shell of your ear. He takes in a long inhale, the smell of you somewhat calming his frayed nerves. He breathes you in once more before kissing you again, this time on your jaw. “Then we’ll pick up our girl and leave this fuckin' hell they call a school.”
Simon’s lips drag nicely against you as he speaks. Slipping against you with light pecks, and staying there so long that it glides your hand into his grasp without you even noticing.
“I wonder what she’s done now. Hopefully something only a little unfortunate…” you sigh out, Simon laughing shortly against you as his mind fills with all the possible troubles his firstborn can cause. She takes after both you and Simon, he finds. Wickedly smart, fearless, and holds just enough disdain to make it the rest of the world’s problem.
Oh, your little Raven. Named after the blackbird that landed on the window seal the foggy morning you found out you were pregnant nearly seven years ago.
Neither of you bother to look when the door creaks open behind you, as Headmaster Archer is no one to be impressed by. A microscopic grin, however, cracks your lips when you hear his steps hesitate at the sight of you and your husband settled in front of his desk. It’s gone quicker than it came when you remind yourself where you are; in a little man’s stupid office for a reason you already know you’ll despise.
The footsteps resume after a quiet sigh, Headmaster Archer plastering an obviously fake smile as his greeting. He has to ease down in his chair, still not used to how harsh the pitch-black hue of your and Simon’s clothing clashes with the rest of the school.
“Mr. and Mrs. Riley… always a pleasure.”
“I wish we could say the same,” Simon rumbles back with an unimpressed look, the index finger of his free hand absentmindedly drawing swirls on the back of your hand. “Can we get on with it? ‘Ve got places to be.”
“Don’t we all,” Headmaster Archer chuckles rather nervously. The smile on his face drops into something uneasy at the displeased expressions on your and Simon’s faces. He gathers himself with a pathetic clearing of his throat and straightening of some blank, unimportant papers. He doesn’t even attempt to look at you, knowing that his bones will shake hard enough to shatter if he were to do such a thing. Instead, the headmaster settles for a few meek glances in Simon’s direction. “Alright. Well, I’ll try to make this as simple as possible; there was an… incident that occurred in Raven’s class today.”
Even with Simon still gripping just above your back, you grow painfully rigid. Your question leaves you, hot and quick.
“What incident?”
Headmaster Archer swallows thickly, still unable to flick his eyes your way. “It happened during today’s show and tell–”
“Look at my wife when you speak to her, Headmaster.”
The man behind the desk nearly jumps at Simon’s words. They ring darkly in the room, and the headmaster has to wring his shaking fingers hard to gain the courage to finally do as Simon commands. He doesn’t remember how to talk until an arched eyebrow from you has his voice croaking out.
“Tarantulas. She brought tarantulas–three of them, all as big and hairy as a rat–for show and tell. Pulled them out like they were nothing, then tried to pass them around. Her instructor was barely able to reign them up in all the chaos they caused. Children were crying. The adults were shaking. In all my years, I’ve never seen anything like it…”
The ramble trails off into nothing, allowing you and Simon a moment of quiet while the headmaster wipes at his face with a cheap handkerchief. God, you two make him sweat, and not in a good way.
Tilting your head, you peek over at your husband. He’s already looking at you, face reading ‘For fuck’s sake.’ Licking your lips, your eyes cut back to Headmaster Archer.
“Not to be obtuse,Headmaster, but I don’t see what your issue is. All she wanted was to show her fellow pupils her favorite pets. Is that really so bad?”
“It is when the pets are spiders, Mrs. Riley. Not just spiders, but dangerous ones that, frankly, a child as young as Raven should not have access to.”
The headmaster has no idea where the things spilling out of his mouth are coming from. Maybe it’s the heat of the room making him a little braver. Maybe it’s because he knows he’ll see Raven’s spiders in his nightmares tonight, you and Simon standing along with them happily while they eat him alive.
Regret soon washes over him faster than he can think. Even more so when he sees Simon, in all his dark clothes and scars and thick muscles, clench his jaw and shift in his seat like he’s thinking about hitting the man. Coincidentally, you’re the one moving first, giving the hand of a seething Simon a tender squeeze before you uncross your legs to stand.
You don’t have to move any closer than you are now to say what you want. The anger dripping from your tone is sharp enough to slice at him as it always does.
You’re all sinister smiles as you promise the man. “If you upset my daughter again, you’ll have a lot more than a few spiders to worry about, Headmaster.”
With that, you’re gone. Nothing more from you other than one last glare at the headmaster and a sweet kiss on Simon’s cheek before your heels click out of the horrid office. If Simon wasn’t so miffed, he’d remember to swivel his head to watch your hips as you go.
Unlucky for the headmaster, Simon does not swivel or admire. All he does is stare something horrid into the man across from him, eyes so hot they could bore a hole into the sweaty head of Archer if Simon wished it hard enough.
The two remain in that position for a good while–Headmaster Archer doing all he can not to evaporate into a puddle of fear and Simon nearly wishing the man dead for making his girls upset. It’s around five minutes later when a small voice sounds at the office entrance.
“Papa, can we leave now? Mama’s ready.”
Simon rips away his glare, making sure to soften his eyes as he looks back at his daughter. He can tell she’s a little sad, mostly annoyed, as she cradles her tarantulas in a see-through cage.
“Of course,” he coos without a second look to the headmaster, raising from his chair and moving to lift his daughter into his arms. He kisses her forehead, arms encircling her to ensure she doesn’t fall. “And you did nothing wrong, my girl. Do you hear me? Let’s just make sure to keep our pets at home from now on, yes? These silly little people don’t know how to appreciate them like you do.”
“Yes, Papa,” little Raven nods dutifully, Simon rewarding her with another kiss on the cheek and rub on her back. “Can we stop and catch crickets for my spiders on the way home? They’ve had a rough day…”
Simon huffs a laugh, glancing down at the cage of spiders with a short smile. He looks back up at his daughter and winks, exiting the office and leaving behind a shaking, sweating, helpless Headmaster Archer.
“Anything for you, my little devil.”

It doesn’t take an FBI profiler to notice how Dr. Spencer Reid fails to hide the way he stares at you in his lectures, his eyes always lingering on you even when he’s addressing the entire classroom.
Maybe you’re just sensitive to his gaze, because he’s an extremely intelligent man whose attention you’re more than happy to have on you, given the fact that he is insanely attractive.
Maybe you’re just as attracted to him as he seems to be with you, because you absolutely preen at the attention Dr. Reid gives you in class, words of praise over your ideas often free-flowing from his lips.
Maybe because you know how hot you are, you shouldn’t have come into Dr. Reid’s office in a low-cut top and a short plaid skirt asking to discuss your final essay in his Criminal Psychology class.
Both you and Dr. Reid know you’re more than capable of acing this paper, your in-class ideas clearly brilliant enough to impress Dr. Reid himself. And yet, you’re in his office, seemingly worried about how to get your thoughts across on paper.
It doesn’t take an FBI profiler to notice how you’re positively bluffing, a little too eloquent to sound truly uncertain of yourself in your work for Dr. Reid’s class.
It doesn’t take an FBI profiler to notice the way Dr. Reid is staring at your tits in your top, eyes only flicking back up to your face when he realises he should be looking at you while you speak instead of at your… assets.
“Sir, did you catch what I just said?” You prod, very aware he most definitely did not hear you. You note how his eyes widen when you call him sir.
“Um– Well, I–” Dr. Reid starts, but it’s no use.
You stand up, putting your hands on the desk as you sigh, “Dr. Reid, I’m sorry if I’m boring you with my thought process.”
Your arms frame your tits just right, and you catch the way Dr. Reid’s eyes inevitably flit down to your cleavage. It’s so obvious when he looks back up at you, and you see his face redden. You quirk an eyebrow at him as a challenge of sorts, and he looks somewhat apologetic.
Dr. Reid clears his throat. He avoids your eyes for a moment, as he moves to take off his blazer. “I apologise. I’m just… distracted at the moment.”
“I wonder why that is,” you hum, twirling a piece of your hair with your index finger, like you’re deep in thought. Then, like the already-obvious answer just hits you, you add, with a pout: “Oh! Do I distract you, sir?”
“What are you doing?” Dr. Reid asks, and you can hear the way he’s trying to keep his voice steady, calm.
“I don’t know, sir,” you shrug. “Maybe you should share your thoughts with me.”
Dr. Reid blinks at you, takes the sight of you in. “Well, you’re giving me a hard time right about now.”
“Why?” You cock your head to the side. He closes his eyes and breathes in deep, just for a moment.
Your professor’s tone biting, he answers candidly, “Your revealing clothing choice makes it difficult for me to focus. I didn’t expect you to dress like a slut when you were coming into my office for a simple consultation.”
Your sharp inhale is audible in the pindrop-silent room. Dr. Reid meets your eyes. He pauses for a moment, and you watch his tongue dart out to wet his lips. His eyes are dark. With a flick of his finger, he says, “Come here.”
You think of leaning over the desk just to fuck with him even more, but Dr. Reid looks so serious you think you might be in actual trouble. You scurry over to his side of the desk, standing next to him. He turns his chair towards you, and you can see the bulge in your professor’s pants. He’s big.
“You want this?” Dr. Reid says gently. It’s a loaded question.
Pulling your lower lip between your teeth, you nod. “Yes, sir. I want you.”
“Good. Then get on your knees.” It’s a command, in a deep voice you’ve never heard from Dr. Reid in the past three months in his lectures. You hope your knees won’t bruise from the way you fall to them in a heartbeat.
“I didn’t think you would be such a slut.” Dr. Reid smirks, and it makes a shiver run down your spine. His hand reaches towards you, cups your cheek. He slaps your cheek gently, but the suddenness makes you gasp. “Fuck, you drive me crazy in class, but now I have you like this? I must have done something amazing in a past life to have you on your knees for me now.”
“Sir,” you exhale shakily. His touch is soft, his thumb stroking your cheek with a surprising sweetness.
“Let’s put that mouth to good use, hmm?” Dr. Reid says, his tone warm, syrupy sweet. He reaches for his belt, the metal clink as he undoes it making heat quickly pool between your legs. The belt gets tossed aside and he unzips his fly, pulling his half-hard cock out. You watch as his large hand wraps around himself, as he strokes his cock absentmindedly. His eyes are only on you. Your body flushes hot with arousal.
Dr. Reid beckons you closer with a finger. You look up at him, and you take his cock in your hand. His eyes tell you everything you need to know. You lean forward to take him into your mouth. You wrap your lips around the head of his cock softly, the warmth of your mouth probably feeling like heaven as Dr. Reid moans quietly as you do. You swirl your tongue over his tip, tasting the saltiness of his precome.
His hand comes up to the back of your head as he watches you suck his cock. You’re kitten-licking at his tip, which doesn’t seem like enough for him. Dr. Reid pushes your head down on his cock, forcing you to take more of him into your mouth. He’s big, so the sudden fullness of your mouth coupled with the way he hits the back of your throat makes you choke slightly. You glance up at him. He’s smirking.
“I’m sure you know how to suck cock, don’t you? Like this, sweetheart.” His tone is close to condescending, as the fist in your hair drags your head up and down on his cock. While it’s not like you don’t know how to please a man, Dr. Reid treating you this way makes you swoon – his teacherly mannerisms turning you on impossibly.
You gag as Dr. Reid fucks your face down onto his cock, his groans mixing with your wet, choked noises. He clearly seems to enjoy this, using you how he pleases, uncaring of your own arousal. It’s so hot you feel like you might explode. You hope you’ll get more out of this than just sucking your professor off, because if he doesn’t reciprocate you might have half a mind to report him for unprofessional conduct.
But Dr. Reid is moaning into his fist, eyebrows furrowed as you blow him, and you’ve always wanted to please your professor; be it in class or right in this moment.
You reach up to grab Dr. Reid by his wrist, tapping his arm to get his attention. His eyelids flutter open, revealing his gorgeously deep brown eyes. He looks at you, slightly concerned. “What’s the matter?”
You swallow hard. “Sir, I– Will you fuck me? Please? I want- I want to feel you inside.”
Dr. Reid closes his eyes for a moment, breathes through his nose. “Holy fucking shit,” He murmurs to himself, before he says, louder, “Okay. Yes. Fuck, you’re so sexy.”
You don’t get up from your knees, not just yet. You look up at him, hands in your lap, waiting for him to tell you what to do. You smirk up at him. Dr. Reid sighs, rubbing his face with his hand, and says, “You little minx. Get up on my desk.”
He extends a hand to help you up, your legs shaky from being on your knees. You look behind you to figure out how to get yourself onto the desk, but Dr. Reid is also on his feet now, and he hoists you up onto the desk, easily getting between your spread legs. You steady yourself by placing your hands out behind you, and shudder when Dr. Reid’s big, warm hands grab at your thighs. He squeezes at the flesh, before one hand comes down to your clothed pussy. He swipes his thumb over your clit, over your hole, and he tuts. “You’re so wet already. You must be desperate.”
You shudder. Dr. Reid’s touch is not enough to feel good, as he barely teases you over your panties. “You should do something about it, Professor.”
“I will,” he says. Dr. Reid exhales, looking down between where your bodies are pressed close, his hard cock pressed against your cunt. “Look at what you’ve done to me. You’ve ruined me.”
“Sir,” you say sultrily. “You should fuck me now.”
“I will,” he repeats, his hand on your hip. He looks you up and down, and then Dr. Reid’s hand is sliding across your thigh, his fingers slipping up the hem of your skirt. You feel calloused thumbs teasing at the waistband of your panties, feel them dip past the elastic to pull them down.
Cool air hits your cunt, as Dr. Reid slides your panties off your legs. He’s looking down at you, between your legs, clearly enjoying the view. You clear your throat, and he looks up at you, almost sheepish. He says, his voice cracking slightly, “You’re gorgeous.”
You smile. “You’re not so bad yourself, Dr. Reid.”
“Yeah?” He laughs. “I’m glad you think so.”
As you talk, Dr. Reid has mindlessly started to rut his cock along your leaking cunt, your steadily-flowing slick making the slide easy. It’s so good, even just the friction of your professor frotting against you. You hold back a moan, looking up into Dr. Reid’s eyes.
“Sir– Oh, fuck,” you moan, as his cock slips inside of you with the way he grinds against you, your hole letting him in too easily. You’re so wet that he’d just slipped in. The feeling stuns you both, wet heat around Dr. Reid’s cock. He’s still rocking his hips back and forth, which pulls him out of you and pushes him back in. The head of his cock pushes back into you, and you both moan. You cry, “More, Dr. Reid.”
Dr. Reid steadies himself as he starts to fuck you, the movement of his hips shifting as he thrusts into you proper. There’s a practised ease in his thrusts, confident as he takes you on his desk. Your head falls forward, hair in your face, as your body takes in the feeling of your professor’s cock buried inside of you.
“You feel so good,” Dr. Reid grunts, his cock fucking in and out of you. He’s filling you up just the way you need it, his thickness stretching you out so deliciously. You clench around him at the praise, and his hips stutter. “So tight for me, sweetheart.”
And then, you can’t explain what you do next. You can’t help yourself, as you wrap your arms around him and bury your face into his neck, smelling his musky perfume and sweat. You whimper. You feel so good you don’t know what else to do with your body, but Dr. Reid doesn’t push you away. One of his arms wraps around your waist, his hand on the small of your back feeling so warm through your thin top, even though you’re feeling so hot you could explode.
You feel yourself being pushed onto your back onto the heavy wooden desk, Dr. Reid’s weight pressing down on you. Like this, you feel his cock press inside of you impossibly deeper, and it’s so good you feel like screaming – you don’t, obviously you can’t, but you muffle a moan into his shoulder instead.
“Such a good girl,” Dr. Reid murmurs softly, his cock punching deep inside of you. Each of his thrusts sends electric pleasure up your spine, through your nerves, and you’re tearing up from how good this feels. “Fuck, I wish I could hear you scream for me.”
You whimper, a broken cry pressed against his neck. “Dr. Reid–”
“Oh, I know, sweetheart,” Dr. Reid coos softly. “You’re doing so good, keeping it down for me. So good for me.”
You don’t like feeling so pathetic, but Dr. Reid makes you feel safe even while you’re vulnerable, while he’s fucking you on his office desk. You sob, “Dr. Reid, it’s too good– I’m gonna cum, I– please–”
“Come on,” he grunts, his voice laboured as he pants. “Cum for me, my darling.”
Your gasp is louder than you’d like it to be, in a professor’s office of all places, but you feel too good to remember to keep it down. You shudder through your orgasm, unable to control the way your body reacts to all the pleasure given to you.
“Fuck,” Dr. Reid blurts, his cock sliding out of you faster than you expect. You whine, but Dr. Reid is cumming all over your cunt, thick, hot spurts all over already-slick skin. “Oh, shit. Fuck.”
You’re thankful Dr. Reid didn’t cum inside, only because he didn’t have a condom on. You feel like a mess, but Dr. Reid’s looking at you like you’re a goddess. You feel his softening cock resting on your thigh. You want to go again, to feel him inside of you again, but perhaps that’s too desperate.
When his head is clear, Dr. Reid is quick to step back, reaching into the desk drawer.
“Sorry, let me just–” The commandeering, dominant Dr. Reid you just met is now gone, back to his slightly silly, bumbling self. He takes two wipes out from the packet of wet wipes he had pulled out from the drawer in his haste, but his hands are gentle when he wipes you clean. His touch is soft, sweet, and you feel so special in his hands. “I’m sorry I made a mess of you.”
You chuckle. “Dr. Reid, I’m more than okay with it. I think it comes with the territory.”
He smiles, albeit a little awkwardly. “Yeah, you’re right. I just don’t do this often, I suppose.”
“Oh, please. As if you don’t have other students throwing themselves at you too, Dr. Reid,” you laugh, waving him off.
“I do, but I’ve never done anything with them. Even if they try to proposition me, I tell them to leave my office. I’ve only… It’s just you.”
You’re stunned for a moment, blinking up at him. “You… Seriously?”
He frowns slightly. “Does it seem like I sleep around with my students often?”
“No! No, I just– I didn’t expect that. I thought you would be more… experienced? Considering how readily you let me… seduce you. I guess.”
“You’re definitely convincing,” Dr. Reid smiles. “Besides, I think you’re really special. I’ve never had a student like you.”
“Oh,” you say, because what else can you say in this scenario? Should you say anything else? It’s starting to hit you now, the implications of what you’ve just done walking into your professor’s office like this. “That’s… flattering.”
He tilts his head, brows furrowing. “Your pause seems to imply you don’t really mean that.”
“Oh, no, Dr. Reid, not at all, I–” You shake your head. “I’m really flattered that you think I’m special, I just– I’m not sure how I can navigate this. We’ve had sex, and it’s really hitting me now that I should not have seduced my professor because that’s definitely a violation of conduct, and–”
“Hey, relax,” Dr. Reid says, putting his hand on your shoulder. You breathe in deep. Dr. Reid looks at you warmly, and says, “I know we probably shouldn’t have done this, but I couldn’t resist you. And besides, it’s already done. We’re close to the end of the semester anyways. If you– I– If you want to continue this… outside of campus, I’d be more than happy to.”
“Dr. Reid,” you gasp, shocked that your professor would even be interested enough in you to suggest something like that. A relationship, outside of class? Or whatever it is he was thinking of. Frankly, even if Dr. Reid wants to meet once a month just to fuck, you’d take whatever you could get, especially with a man as gorgeous as him.
“Call me Spencer. Please,” he smiles. “Outside of class, at least.”
You grin. “Okay, Spencer.”

Doctor's Note [Zayne + Son ★ 1289 words ★ Masterlist ★ Snowdrop Masterlist ★ Series Index ★ AO3] Zayne calls home during lunchtime. A/N: orz this was supposed to have been written and posted in December… orz Tag list: @lavlynyan @miudle @alfredosaws @solifloris @nezuswritingdesk @valkyyriia @natimiles @yourlocalcatscammer @callilypso @likewhyareyousoobsessedwithme @qyuin 【 request to be added 】
The meeting was finally over.
Thankfully, it was just a little bit past noon by the time Zayne had returned to his office. As he settled into his seat, he started a video call, waiting patiently until a face completely identical to his popped up on the screen.
“Daddy!”
He chuckled at the sight of his three-year-old son’s bright grinning face. The boy immediately turned away, yelling for his mother. “Mommy, it’s Daddy on your phone!”
“Did Mommy let you answer this call for her?” Zayne asked teasingly, smiling when his son looked bashful and nodded. “Good, I don’t want you answering any phone calls without our permission, remember?”
The boy nodded solemnly. “I remember, Daddy!”
“Good boy,” he responded. He quirked a brow, noticing a rice grain on his son’s mouth. “Are you eating lunch without me?”
“Mommy made me…” the toddler said with a pout. “I told you Daddy would call, Mommy!”
“Zayne, are you turning our son against me again?” You immediately entered the screen with a playful glare. You bent lower and rubbed the rice grain off your son’s face, adding, “We just started eating.”
“Daddy, do you have your lunch?” the boy asked, wriggling his way back into the screen to look at his father hopefully. “Mommy and I made it just for you!”
“Yeah, Zaynie, our darling boy and I made it just for you,” you added with a mischievous smile.
“What did you do?” Zayne responded with a raise of his brow, matching your smile with his own. He set a bento box down in front of him, noticing a folded note attached on top. He opened the note, chuckling softly when he saw the crude handwriting written with green and yellow crayons.
“Is this my little doctor’s note?” he asked playfully, turning the paper with the scribbles to face his phone.
“That’s my note for Daddy!” his son yelled out excitedly.
“Wow, Zayne, our son’s handwriting looks so much nicer than yours,” you teased him again, making his eyes rolled.
“Very funny,” he answered, tone flat. He sighed exaggeratedly. “I’m afraid I have misplaced my reading glasses. Can you read it for me, son?”
The boy nodded. “It says, ‘Daddy should have a good day! I love him very, very, very much and miss him very, very, very much.’”
Both you and Zayne smiled, touched by the little boy’s earnest message. Zayne’s smile seemed to widen as he watched you pulled the boy into your lap to snuggle, his son’s giggles always managing to relieve him from his daily stress. He responded, his voice tender, “I miss you, too. I’ll be home this evening with a surprise.”
“Macarons?” the boy asked hopefully as he wriggled excitedly on your lap, making you giggled as you tried to keep the toddler still. You kissed his cheek sweetly and said in a lower voice:
“Darling, it could be a carrot cake, too, right, Zaynie?”
Zayne’s smile instantly dropped while his son’s excitement grew, as did your teasing smile. The little boy was squirming excitedly on your lap and clapping his hands. “Carrot cake!”
“Oh, but Mommy said we shouldn’t be eating too many sweets,” Zayne added, his eyes darting to meet yours in warning. He smiled stiffly, faltering when you responded cooly:
“Occasionally is fine.”
The boy peered up curiously before turning to look at his father. “Daddy, are you going to eat your lunch?”
Zayne felt grateful for the sudden topic change. He nodded and opened the lid of his bento box, his voice taking on an exaggerated tone as he asked playfully, “Now what do we have here?”
“Rice!” the boy answered brightly, continuing, “And…and…Mommy, what did you say this was called?”
You giggled, your hand smoothing over his hair. You glanced at where Zayne pointed with his chopsticks, seeing the bite-sized fried chicken pieces. “Karaage, my darling.”
“Karaage!” the boy repeatedly loudly, “And…and…”
Zayne smiled as he watched his little carbon-copy son struggled to remember the name of the dishes.
“Rolled omelet, darling.”
“…and omelet, Daddy!”
Zayne laughed at the boy’s earnest declaration. “Sounds nutritious,” he said, adding with a gentle smile, “And they look delicious.”
“Daddy, don’t forget to eat your carrots!”
Immediately, Zayne’s smile disappeared. He managed to compose himself before his son noticed his mood change. Patiently, he asked, “What carrots?”
“The hearts, Daddy!”
He peered down at his lunch again, noticing the heart-shaped carrots and the rounds they were cut from neatly and strategically placed throughout the bento box for a cute design. He looked up, feigning confusion. “I thought these are just decorations?”
“You can eat them!” the little boy insisted happily with a wide grin. “They’re yummy and good for you!”
“You hear that, Zaynie?” you interjected with a mischievous grin, delighting in how your normally calm and collected husband was struggling to maintain his composure, his lips subtly twitching with disgust at the sight of his least favorite food and even worse at the prospect of having to eat them. You continued, chirping happily, “Your personal doctor has just told you they’re yummy and good for you.”
Just as quickly, Zayne directed a sharp glare to you, but you didn’t care, continuing with delight at his misery, “My hubby is so lucky to have such a dedicated doctor who cares about his patient’s health.”
“You put him up to this, didn’t you?” he accused.
“This was his idea!” you protested with a smug smile. “He said—and I quote—‘Mommy, can we cut out hearts for Daddy’s lunch?’”
You leaned down and kissed the top of your son’s head soundly. “Didn’t you, my little darling?”
The boy nodded innocently, his sweet little smile still shining brightly as he waited for his father to take his first bite of his lunch.
“Now Zaynie,” you said teasingly, struggling to stifle your giggles as your husband continued to pierce you with his glares, “Won’t you be a good boy and eat your carrots, per doctor’s order?”
Zayne sighed helplessly when his carbon-copy son stared at him with bright, hopeful eyes. He picked up his chopsticks again, his eyes peering down at his lunch as he quickly tried to gauged which piece of carrot appeared the smallest. He started to reach for one of the rounds with a heart-shaped holes, but you immediately tutted disapprovingly. “A real piece of carrot, sir.”
“They’re all still carrots,” he insisted practically through clenched teeth.
“Daddy, do you not like my lunch for you?” the boy asked with quivering lips.
Damn it.
Zayne smiled reassuringly, speaking gently to the little toddler, “Of course not, son, Daddy was just trying to pick the most delicious piece for his first bite.”
Mentally, he sighed. He unwittingly chose the largest heart-shaped carrot piece and plopped it into his mouth. He struggled to smile as he chewed on the vegetable, his tastebuds screaming in disgust. Eventually, he swallowed, his smile stiff.
“De-delicious,” he fibbed, consciously trying to maintain his smile for his son’s sake. The smile, however, fell completely at the little boy’s innocent declaration:
“Mommy, we should give Daddy more hearts tomorrow!”
“We should,” you agreed with both glee and mischievousness, adding playfully, “Because we love Daddy so much, right, my darling boy?”
“Yeah!”
Through clenched teeth, Zayne’s hand tightened around his chopsticks, and he responded with a forced smile to you, “I love you all, too…so I wouldn’t want you to trouble yourself on my behalf.”
“It’s no trouble, Daddy!” the boy said happily, seemingly unaware of his father’s internal struggles. He continued cheerfully, “I want you to have lots of hearts tomorrow!”
“Because we love you so much, Zaynie,” you added smugly, seeing the light in his eyes fading.
“…I love you, too…”

Tastes Like Sugar (Agnes x f!Reader)
Synopsis: Detective Agnes O'Connor is your favorite customer and you might be her favorite citizen.
Words: 3k
Warnings: Swearing

@alexusonfire, this one's for you!
The bell above your door rang out in the quiet morning. The sun was just peeking over the treeline, the air chilled outside. You perked up, pasting a smile on your face, ready to face the day. The first customer.
Depending on which Westview native was coming through the door would dictate how the rest of your day went.
“Gimme one of the chocolate ones.”
Agnes O’Connor. Your day was going to be a good one.
“Sure thing, detective,” you said, flashing her a genuine smile.
The acerbic detective was your favourite customer. You made no secret of it. Your smiles were hers as were your compliments. Her scowl, comforting in its familiarity, was a mainstay of your interaction. But every now and then you saw her lips quirk up and you’d glow with pride
“Busy day?” you asked, plucking one of the chocolate donuts from the display case.
“No more than usual,” she replied.
Her arms crossed over her chest and she was watching you with an intensity that made your heart beat quicken.
“It must get boring living in such a quiet town,” you said, “never thought about moving to the big city?”
“Plenty of crime here,” she replied.
You tucked the donut into a paper bag, ringing her up. Those assessing blue eyes swept over you. Tucking a strand of hair behind your ear, you let her look, knowing all she’d see was someone dazzled by the big dog in town. No one was better than her. She had a reputation around town. Everyone knew the streets were so safe because of her.
“Not with you keeping us safe,” you said.
She pursed her lips but didn’t disagree. Her phone tapped against the card reader, the ding loud between you. You nudged the paper bag over to her.
“Have a good day, detective,” you said, looking at her from under lowered eyelashes.
She lingered for just a moment before she sniffed and turned away. The bell rang behind her as her back disappeared.
^
“Morning, detective.”
Her index finger tapped on the counter. You let your smile reach your eyes, the early mornings worth it when you got to see her. She perused the front case of baked goods, not even bothering to greet you with more than a raised eyebrow. You lent on the counter, grinning at her.
“It’s always nice seeing your smiling face in the morning,” you said.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” she asked, looking up at you, less than impressed.
“Just that you brighten up the place,” you said.
She muttered something under her breath that you missed. You tilted your head, waiting for her to say something else. Blue eyes flicked up to you before down to the case again.
“Gimme a glazed,” she said.
“Sure thing, detective,” you said.
She crossed her arms over her chest, watching you pull one of the donuts free for her. The paper bag crinkled in your hand as you transferred the donut into it. Pushing it over the counter, you tucked your hair behind your ear. She pulled it over to herself with long fingered hands, making you bite down on your lower lip.
For just a moment, her eyes seemed to focus on your mouth. Then she was turning away.
“See you tomorrow morning, detective,” you called at her retreating back.
She raised a hand to you in a wave before the door shut behind her.
^
For the first time in ages, Agnes wasn’t the first customer you served that morning. A line had formed before the frowning face of your favourite customer entered the cafe. You kept twirling from the counter to the food cabinet to the drinks. You hadn’t worked that hard that early in a while but you kept your smile firmly in place.
“Are you always so bubbly in the morning?”
“Detective.” You brightened and she squinted at you, “I was worried I wasn’t going to see you this morning. Too busy sleeping in?”
“No time to sleep in. You know that,” she replied.
You perked up, bouncing on the balls of your feet. Her head cocked to the side, eyes sweeping over you like she was documenting every little thing you were doing. You let her, wondering what she was reading in you.
“Something sweet to start the morning off right?” you asked.
“What?” She blinked.
You nodded towards the display case. She froze before turning her eyes down to it.
“Gimme one of the powdered ones,” she said after a moment.
“Sugar for someone so sweet,” you said with a grin.
Her fingers brushed against yours as she took the paper bag from you. Your teeth sunk into your lower lip again as your heart beat double time. This time her gaze definitely dipped to your mouth. Heat coursed through your veins.
“See you tomorrow, detective,” you whispered, lowering your gaze.
“I like the blue. It’s pretty,” she said.
You glanced down at your blue dress, missing as she glanced over her shoulder to get one last look at you before disappearing into the morning mist.
^
“Detective, we have to stop meeting like this,” you said as she sauntered through the door.
“Not until I find a better donut place,” she said.
“You mean it’s not my sparkling personality that keeps you coming back?” you asked, pouting at her, “I’m hurt.”
“Deal with it,” she said but you could see the way her lips ticked up into a small smile.
“You keep treating me so badly and I’ll stop being so nice,” you said.
“I’d like to see you try.”
You let your eyes wander over her body, thinking about all the ways you could try being not so nice. All the ways you could be naughty with her. Your cheeks heated and you were the first to look away. Her chuckle was low, a raspy vibration in her chest. You shivered, eyes darting up to her again.
“What can I get you, detective?” you asked.
“Chocolate sprinkle,” she said without even looking, “it’s going to be a long day.”
“Nothing the great Detective O’Connor can’t handle, I’m sure,” you said.
You smiled softly, eyes meeting hers over the top of the counter. A scowl settled over her face but you didn’t let it deter you. You never did. You knew you were going to break through that tough exterior one day.
“There you go,” you said, pushing it over the counter.
“Thanks,” she said.
Her hand closed over it, fingers covering yours. Lingering, your gaze caught on hers, the moment stretching out. You wanted to live in it, for the moment never to be broken. It was the kind of moment you’d be thinking about long after she was gone.
She pulled her hand back, pursing her lips. You didn’t say anything, simply nodding to her as she stepped away from the counter. She lingered for another moment before she spun on her heels and stalked out of the cafe. The sigh that passed over your lips was dreamy.
“Can I get an oat milk latte?”
You blinked, turning your attention to the next customer.
“Sure thing!”
^
You were humming to yourself as you went through your opening ritual, getting the cafe ready for the morning rush. You weren’t paying as much attention as you should have, not hearing the bell above the door when it was shoved open.
“You weren’t here yesterday.”
“Shit.” You jumped, pressing your hand to your racing heart, “Agnes. We’re not open yet.”
“I don’t care,” she said, arms crossed over her chest, glaring at you.
“Okay, well, you’re going to have to wait for me to finish up before I can get you a donut,” you said.
“You weren’t here yesterday,” she repeated, hoisting one of the chairs off the table closest to you.
“Did you miss me, detective?” You flashed her an impish grin.
“That boy they had working,” she ground out through gritted teeth, “wouldn’t shut up.”
“I never shut up,” you laughed.
She grumbled something under her breath, slamming down another chair. You shook your head, sliding closer to her.
“Just admit it. You missed me,” you said, hip bumping against hers.
Her arm caught you around your waist, hand pressed to your hip. Though the fabric of your dress, her palm was burning. Your breath caught, turning your face towards her. She was close enough for you to feel her breath ghost over your skin, those blue eyes burning as they looked down at you.
“Where were you?” she asked, voice lowering into something that felt dangerous.
“It was my day off,” you replied, breathless as you stared into her eyes, “I was probably still in bed when you were here.”
Her gaze darkened and you shivered. She squeezed your hip before she released you.
“Don’t do that again,” she told you.
“What? Take a day off?” you laughed, “I think I’m allowed to do that.”
“Don’t,” she said.
“You really can’t get on without me, huh?”
Her fingers reached up, curling around the ends of your hair, giving it a tug. Your lips parted and her eyes flicked down to them. Your tongue ran along your lower lip, watching her gaze follow it.
“Chocolate donut, detective?” you asked.
Her hand fell to her side and you stepped away from her, winking at her over your shoulder. The paper bag crumpled in her hand when you passed it to her, knuckles grazing against one another.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, detective,” you whispered.
Her hand slid over your hip again, leaving you with fire running through your veins.
^_
“Fancy running into you here.”
Agnes shoved her aviators further up her nose, staring out at the crowd. Leaning against the wall in the shade, she stared out at the Westview crowd. You nudged her shoulder, standing beside her in an attempt to get out of the sun.
“I brought you something,” you said when you didn’t get a response.
“Is it a donut?” she asked, sounding less than impressed.
“Better,” you said, “lemonade.”
You held out one of the cool cups of lemonade you’d bought as you’d walked through the fair. You’d caught sight of her quickly, a brooding shadow on the outskirts of the town’s fun. There was something about her that always drew your eye, even in a crowd.
“You brought me lemonade?” she asked, still not looking towards you.
“Breakfast of champs,” you chirped.
“It’s not breakfast time,” she replied.
“Well, you didn’t come in for a donut so I know you haven’t had any today,” you said.
She sighed but took the cup from you. You grinned, watching her down the drink and crush the cup in her fist. It shouldn’t have made you feel hot, but the cool drink was a relief as you chugged it down. Her chuckle was filthy in your ear.
“So you’re keeping tabs on me now?” she asked.
“It’s not my fault you’ve become such an integral part of my day,” you said, “if I’m not allowed to take a day off then neither are you.”
“I’d hardly call this a day off,” she said.
“You don’t come by the cafe, it’s a day off from me,” you said, pouting at her.
“Am I not allowed a day off from you?” she asked.
“Nope.” You popped the p obnoxiously.
She humphed but didn’t disagree. When she shifted, her shoulder came to rest against yours, warmth seeping into your skin. You settled closer to her, watching the crowd.
“Sometimes I wonder what I’m still doing in a town like this,” you said, “and then the fair comes to town and I wonder how I could ever leave.”
“You thinking about leaving?” she asked, voice gruff.
You looked over, catching her watching you. Meeting her gaze you smiled.
“Not anymore,” you said.
“Why not?” she asked.
“I found something worth staying for.”
She didn’t say anything, but her shoulders seemed to relax. You pressed your shoulder more insistently against hers, turning back to watch the crowd. Her fingers brushed against the back of your hand.
Your head came to rest on her shoulder.
^
“Long time no see,” you chirped when Agnes came through the door.
Her smile was surprisingly free of irony and sarcasm. You brightened, our own smile taking over your face in response to hers. She lent on the counter, one elbow, looking at you from under hooded eyes.
“Best view in the town, right here,” she said.
“Flatterer.” But your cheeks heated.
“Gimme one of the chocolate sprinkles,” she said, “I want something sweet in my mouth.”
You opened your mouth but no words came out. She chuckled, reaching out to curl her finger around the bottom of your hair. She tugged until you shivered.
“Have I finally managed to shut you up?” she asked.
“No,” you squeaked.
“You sure?” she asked.
“Just the donut?” you asked in return.
“What else you got on offer?” she asked.
“Something sweeter.”
She tugged on the ends of your hair again before letting you go. Her smirk had your cheeks heating again but you wiggled your eyebrows. Her chuckle was warm and delicious, sending a shiver down your spine.
“Perhaps when my shift is done,” she said, “I’m sure you have plenty of suggestions of things I could taste.”
“Are you flirting with me, detective?” you asked, leaning over the counter, not able to stop yourself.
“That’s quite a serious charge,” she said.
“Enjoy your donut,” you said, sliding it across to her, “I hope it’s sweet enough for you.”
“I’m sure it will tide me over until I can find something sweeter to occupy my time with.”
She left you behind the counter breathless and throbbing with need and a full day’s work ahead of you. You cursed her very existence. And hoped she’d be back soon.
^
The door opened seconds after you’d flipped the sign. You laughed, stepping back, giving Agnes the room she needed to barrel into the cafe. Her hand caught yours, dragging you after her. You went easily, just enjoying the feeling of her palm against yours.
“Someone’s had a good day,” you said.
“Shut up,” she growled.
“Or not,” you muttered.
“Is anyone else here?” she asked.
“I’m the last one,” you replied.
“Good.”
She pushed open the door into the store room, not listening to your arguments about how she shouldn’t be back there, that if anyone found her you’d be in so much trouble. Your back was shoved into a shelf. The door closed with a click.
“Can I help you with something, detective?” you asked, smirking when she lent back against the door.
“I believe I was offered something sweeter than a donut,” she said, “I’ve come to collect.”
“You’re going to have to get a little closer. Might be hard to reach from all the way over there.”
Her hand landed on the shelf beside your head, leaning into your personal space. You tilted your chin up, lips parting. Blue eyes dragging down to them, darkening as they focused on your mouth. You waited, the moment stretching.
“Well?” you asked when you thought she was never going to move.
Her lips pressed to yours, cutting off any other words you might have wanted to say. When you’d imagined kissing her, in those late night fantasies and sunlit daydreams, it had never felt like this. You’d imagined her in all kinds of scenarios, soft and romantic, desperate and needy, hot and heavy, but this was so different.
The self possession she carried through daily life was really coming through. It was commanding, pressing you back against the shelves, digging into your spine. Your hands landed on her shoulders, fingers digging in, dragging her closer, opening under her. She growled, low in her throat, her hand grasping your hip as she slotted her leg between yours. Your hand curled around the back of her neck, holding her in place as you whimpered into her mouth. She nipped at your lower lip before her tongue soothed over it.
“Agnes,” you groaned, muffled against her mouth.
“Hush, hon,” she said, “I’m enjoying my sweet treat.”
You surrendered to her, letting her taste as deeply as she wanted. You clutched at her, wanting more of her. You’d been waiting so long for her you were hardly going to stop her now. Even if the shelving was digging into your back and you should be locking up the cafe and cleaning up. She surrounded you, giving you no chance to escape, as if you’d wanted that, crowding you more insistently against the shelf.
“Taste so fucking good,” she growled.
You arched against her, the whine coming from the back of your throat lost as she kissed you again. Dragging her closer, you pressed against her, feeling every one of her curves against yours. The noise she made was addictive, better than any sugar could be. Your hand slid up under the soft flannel shirt she had on, seeking out the warm skin you knew would be under there. Your nails scraped over her skin, the noise she made gratifying when she shoved you against the shelving harder. Her leg, still between yours, pressed against you until the throbbing heat felt like it would overwhelm you.
You whimpered when she pulled away. Her thumb ran along your lower lip, eyes dark and smouldering, but her lips were pulled up in a smirk. Your tongue flicked over the pad of her thumb. Her low chuckle was throaty, sending a shiver down your spine.
“You certainly know how to deliver on your promises,” she said.
“What do you mean?” you asked, breathless and desperate to get back to the kissing portion of the afternoon.
“I’ve never had anything as sweet as you,” she replied.
You could have melted right there.
“Do you want to get dinner?” you asked.
“Yes, hon. I do.”
You slid your arms around her neck, drawing her back to you. Your lips ghosted over hers, giggling when she tried to strain forward, wanting to press hers to yours.
“I need to lock up,” you whispered, keeping her just far enough that she couldn’t kiss you again.
“Hurry,” she groused, stepping back from you.
You hurried.

Summary: You showed your captain your intent to kiss him, but instead of kissing you back, he fled. Resigning yourself to a rejection hurt, but what if his reaction had nothing to do with rejection, and all to do with inexperience?
|Masterlist|
Divider by @cafekitsune
It had become sort of a ritual between the two of you. Law read while sitting at his desk - medical journals, scientific papers, or comic books - and you sat on a little couch in the corner of his office, out of his way, but still near him. A book in hand and a focused expression on your face - whether it was romance, adventure, horror or, sometimes, even one of Law’s precious medical books.
More often than not, the focused expression was only on your face because you were trying so hard not to get lost in your captain’s presence. Even just by sitting still, he commanded the room. He didn’t have to speak to own every silence, nor did he have to be watchful to own every shadow. This room was his, you were merely in it.
And that was extremely fascinating to you.
There had been times when you were bolder with your attention, actively closing the book you were perusing and just staring at him, deadpan. But he would never acknowledge you, even when you were sure he knew exactly what you were up to.
You didn’t care. You were too lost in the way his lips dipped with focus, or how his long, slim fingers intertwined when he was reviewing a passage. The way he deepened his frown when something was amiss, or how his eyebrows relaxed when something made sense. The way he ran his fingers through his hair or absentmindedly twirled his hat on his index finger.
You were fascinated. He was fascinating.
And you were at the tipping point. You needed this man, badly.
You had tried subtle ways of showing him you were interested: touching his arm, twirling your hair, giggling at everything he said - that had been a fun week! When Law decided to run a full check-up to figure out what the hell was wrong with you, you stopped your subtle efforts. Maybe you needed to be a bit more blunt. So you then tried to actively use lame pick-up lines and telling him outright how interested you were. All of it flew past his head and, instead, was picked up by Penguin and Shachi, who decided to make fun of you for it - that had been another fun week!
If you were anybody else, you would have given up by now, clearly getting the hint that he wasn’t interested in anything romantic. But you were stubborn to a fault, and the fact that your captain hadn’t fully rejected you was the deciding factor for your next move. Because if he didn’t have feelings for you, he wouldn’t put up with your presence in his office, right? He would’ve ‘shambles-ed’ you out of there in the blink of an eye.
So, this was a do-or-die situation. You were going all in.
The lights were always dimmed in his office, except for two lamps - one by your side, the other by his desk - so the ambiance was already intimate. You had put on some revealing clothes, making full use of your free time to shed the boiler suit since you weren’t ‘on the clock’, and you had downed an entire cup of chamomile tea for the nerves. This was happening.
Other than a slightly longer glance your way when you asked if you could join him - as you always did - Law didn’t show any signs of being hot and bothered by your skimpy choice of clothes. This was already a bust.
Huffing, you didn’t even sit on the couch. You took small steps towards his desk while slowly counting to ten in your head to keep your cool. Law’s brow rose as he saw you approach, but his eyes swiftly returned to his book. Two more steps, and you were by his side.
“Captain.” You murmured, trying to sound alluring and cursing at the wicked croak that left your lips.
Law lifted his gaze and turned his chair slightly to the side, so you used the opportunity to lean on his desk. He tilted his head, clearly curious as to what you were doing. You then leaned forward, lips inches away from his, and the strong scent of disinfectant and pine soothed you. It was his scent. “What if I kissed you right now? Would you stop me?” This time, your words came out in a sultry whisper, your breath kissing his lips in a soft promise.
Law locked eyes with you, something dark passing through them, and your breath hitched as he raised his hand to eye level. You prepared yourself for the surge of shock when he pressed his lips against yours, his hand already near your cheek… then he opened his lips and…
“Room. Shambles.”
And with a soft plop, you were sitting in your bed. No Law, no kiss, no confession, just you, in a time-out.
“What the fuck?”
-*-
You’d had half a mind to stomp into his office and let him know that what he had done was not acceptable, but you had let it slide. That was almost a week ago, and you still hadn’t spoken to Law since.
When you went by his office, he wasn’t there; when you went by the sick bay, he had just left; it seemed that every time you tried to enter a room he was in, he was suddenly gone. Almost as if he could disappear in the blink of an eye. Which he did. So you knew he was avoiding you.
At first, you felt slighted. A simmering rage burning beneath the surface since you had, after all, put all of your effort into seducing him, only to make a fool of yourself. You deserved an explanation!
But as time went by and he didn’t even make his presence known to you, your anger slowly turned into hurt and then to sorrow. It was bad enough that whatever you felt for Law wasn’t reciprocated, but it was even worse that he didn’t even want to see you to clear the air.
That was what stung the most.
So, you stopped trying. You stopped looking for him or trying to find him. You’d gotten the message loud and clear: Law wasn’t interested.
But what was even worse than that was that you actually missed his company. Even if he was silent most of the time.
-*-
You still read, but now you were doing it in your own room, actually reading and understanding the words on the pages in front of you instead of being unfocused and lost in your captain.
It was all so lonely.
Tonight, you were reading a boring medical journal. It reminded you of Law, so you even started to mutter some of the words in the book because that’s what he did sometimes when he was trying to memorise or grasp something, and it felt familiar. You were lying on your belly, the book held in front of your face as you leaned on your elbows, wearing the most bored and sad-puppy expression.
Until a familiar blue light enveloped you and, with a light tug on your stomach, you fell face-first - or book-first? - into your captain’s lap.
“Fuck!” He exclaimed as you scurried up, trying to sit, still dazed at what had just happened.
“Captain?”
“I thought you were sitting down! I didn’t expect you to fall on me.”
“What?”
His ears and face were red as he helped you sit. Then, you took a look around and gasped. You had never been here before, this was his room.
“Is that a medical journal?” He had calmed down a bit and pointed at the book in your hands. Now, it was your time to blush.
“Yes.” You mumbled between your teeth. “Why am I here?” You huffed in exasperation. As much as you wanted to reconnect with Law, the feeling of rejection was still very fresh and aching against your chest.
“I… I brought you here.”
You stared at him, deadpan. Was he being serious or making a joke? With Law, it was hard to tell sometimes. But you didn’t say anything, and he continued with a bit more bravado this time.
“I brought you here to apologise for my behaviour this past week.”
Crossing your arms over your chest, you raised your chin, trying to prove that you were unbothered by the situation. “Go on,” you urged.
“I was scared.”
“What?”
The great Surgeon of Death? Scared of you? Was he making up excuses? Did he not think you were strong enough to handle rejection?
“I–I like you! And… I’ve never…” Law blushed deeply, a crimson red hue spreading adorably from his nose to his cheeks and up to his ears. You held your breath as your lips parted in a surprised ‘o’.
“Kissed someone?” You coaxed softly.
Law sighed profoundly, his hand running over his face before he closed his eyes and decided to just spill it. “Not that. I’ve kissed people. I just never had intercourse and… well… you… I… damn it! I want to! With you!”
He seemed so awkwardly embarrassed by the whole situation that you did your best to suppress the sweet smile that threatened to escape your lips. He hadn’t rejected you because he didn’t care, he rejected you especially because he cared.
Tilting your head to the side you forced him to look into your eyes as you reached for his hand, tentatively entwining your fingers with his lithe ones, all previous anger forgotten after his sudden confession. “It’s okay, Captain. We don’t have to do anything.”
Law stared at your intertwined hands for a moment, and when his amber gaze returned to you, it was dark with desire. “But I want to do everything.” Your breath hitched as the grip of his hand increased. He tugged softly, pulling your body towards his, and you didn’t resist.
His lips hovered near yours, but you didn’t press them together like you wanted to, you were giving Law time for him to do this his own way. “What was it you said? What if I kissed you right now, would you stop me?”
Law’s raspy voice sent tingles down your spine, gathering indecently in your core. You leaned in closer, lips brushing ever so slightly with his while you shook your head. “Not only would I not stop you,” you placed your free hand on Law’s thigh, and he sucked in a breath. “I would also indulge you.”
With an unrestrained groan, Law used his free hand to cup your nape and pull you against his lips. His kiss did not seem inexperienced at all. Law pressed firmly, first, freeing the hand that was entwined with yours and placing it on your waist, bringing your body closer to his. Then he parted his lips and licked your lower one tentatively, asking permission to enter.
With a wanton moan, you melted into his embrace and into his kiss, lips parting and tongues meeting in a wet, messy dance.
It wasn’t enough.
Law pulled you even closer, so you straddled him, your knees supported against the mattress as your core frictioned against his length. With a gasp, you pulled back, neck arching as a ripple of pleasure coursed through you.
You felt Law hesitate for a fraction of a second, but then he moved, pressing his lips against your throat and laying open-mouthed kisses down to your collarbone. “Is this okay?” He questioned, a slight - barely there - tremble in his voice.
“Yes!” You breathed, your hand climbing to grip his hair as you threaded your fingers through its silkiness, something you’d been meaning to do for a while and never could. Law pulled you in for another kiss and you guided his hand below your shirt - you needed to feel him touch you.
His kiss faltered for the briefest of seconds before his hand climbed, and he cupped your breast. You rolled your hips against his, feeling his hard cock rub against your clit, robbing another shameless moan from your occupied lips.
Law parted the kiss with a heavy pant. “Fuck.” His hand found your nipple and he teased it very softly while his other hand rested on your thigh.
“Wait.” You murmured, and when he looked at you with panic in his eyes, you regretted your poor choice of words. “Just let me get this out of the way. Don’t stop what you’re doing.” Then you removed your pyjamas shirt, baring your upper body to him.
Law gulped, and his jaw clenched as his eyes devoured you.
“Like what you see, Captain?” You teased, trying to ease some tension so he could enjoy the experience and not be so focused on what he was doing right or wrong. When he nodded, you guided your hand to your free breast, your eyes never leaving his as he followed your movements. “Like this.” Then you showed him, rolling your nipple with your thumb and index finger, pinching slightly.
Law mimicked your movements with his hand, and you bit back a satisfied groan. You removed your hand from your breast so you could gain some grounding, placing them on the mattress and arching your back, rolling your hips again to feel the sweet friction.
He hesitated. You watched his calculating eyes consider possibilities before he leaned in and took your free nipple on his tongue. Your breathing became heavy as he sucked and nibbled, clearly enjoying the experience.
He stopped his ministrations to stare at you, and for the first time, he looked unguarded, relaxed, even though he was visibly anxious, it was more in anticipation, than in fear. “The books explained women’s pleasure, but nothing compares to the real thing.”
You looked at him through lidded eyes, feeling your core throb incessantly. “Books?”
Law grinned, then wrapped one arm around your waist and flipped you, so your back was against the bed. “I’ve been doing research this past week.” Research? On sex? You had to suppress a chortle, your captain never did anything by half. “Let me see if I assimilated the subject thoroughly.”
With shaky hands, Law removed the bottoms of your pyjamas and your panties, all the while cursing between his teeth. Then his big hands pressed on your thighs and he looked into your eyes, waiting for permission. You nodded, and he urged you to open your legs, which you happily did.
He became transfixed for a moment, watching your pussy leaking with desire until you spoke. “Captain! Are you just going to stare? Let me guide you.” You leaned on your elbows, ready to explain to him how to pleasure you so you could take him.
He smiled at you and shook his head softly. Then he removed his shirt and you gasped at his tattoos. You’d seen them, he was never shy about displaying them. But actually watching them right in front of your nose had your breath hitching again. When Law removed his spotted jeans, you couldn’t help but stare at the bulge in his briefs.
“Like what you see, sweetheart?” He mimicked your words, and you giggled. Then, he positioned himself between your legs, his hands climbing your thighs until they hovered over your pussy.
With shaky hands, Law ran two of his fingers through your slickened folds, a sharp exhale leaving his lips as he observed you with clinical precision. He parted them and gulped. “Your clitoris. It has more than eight thousand nerve endings.” You arched your back, waiting for his touch, but he was still analysing and you were already burning up. “And it’s not just external.” Law splayed his hand on your lower abdomen, almost as if he could see what was underneath without the use of his Devil Fruit.
Your breathing accelerated, and he continued. “Stimulation to the glans clitoris,” he used one finger to circle your nub tentatively, “activates the nerves, sending signals through the pudendal nerve straight to your brain.” He repeated the motion with his finger, and you moaned, throwing your head back. “Pleasurable signals.”
Clearly motivated by your reaction, Law alternated his gaze from your eyes to your core. “It’s sensitive to different kinds of stimuli, like friction,” Law rubbed your clit for a moment, and you bit your lower lip, hands gripping the sheets, “and pressure,” his fingers pressed harder while he changed the pace and direction, and you nearly lost it, pleasure already cresting, ready to snap. “If I stimulate it correctly, it should trigger deep pelvic contractions. Your heart rate increases, your pupils dilate, and pleasure will course through your body - an orgasm.”
“I–I’m coming, L–Law!” You cried out his name in abandon, arching your back and fisting the sheets. Law’s ‘lesson’ and his touch brought your climax out of nowhere, crashing unannounced with waves and waves of bliss.
Law seemed fascinated by your reaction, the faint blush still remained on his cheeks. As you recovered from your orgasm, your eyes opening slightly, you saw him grinning. “Fascinating.”
“Are you going to quiz me afterwards?” You teased, and he laughed.
“Maybe.” Then he leaned over your body and kissed you deeply, slotting himself in the middle of your legs while you let your hand explore his chest and abs. When your fingers reached the hem of his briefs, you pulled apart, looking into his eyes.
“You want to do this?” Law nodded, and you felt another slight shake of his hands. You helped him pull down his briefs, his lengthy cock springing free from its confines. Then you reached, touching him gently so he could understand how it felt to be touched by another person.
His breathing became ragged, and his eyes darkened further. So he lined his tip with your entrance and exhaled another shaky breath. “The muscular tissue in your vaginal canal is designed to expand for penetration.” Law gulped, swallowing hard and preparing himself for what was about to happen.
“After an orgasm, and because of our intense foreplay, you should be lubricated enough to accommodate me.” As if to prove a point, Law inserted two digits inside your hole, collecting slick and making you gasp. “It should facilitate–”
“Law, stop talking and start fucking me.” You breathed out, exasperated with all the teasing he was unwillingly causing you.
Law’s grin was barely there, but he nodded and pressed the tip of his cock against your glistening hole. Never averting your gaze, he pressed forward, letting out a rumbling groan, his brows scrunching up as his mouth parted slightly. “Fuck.”
His hands gripped your hips hard, as if that action alone could ground him to earth. “I–If I recall correctly - fuck - it’s beneficial if I move slowly at first.”
You arched into him, a pleasurable moan leaving your lips, chased by a mirthful chuckle. “Trafalgar Law, you have got to be the only man who gives an anatomy lesson while losing his virginity.”
He groaned in agreement while slowly pulling out of you, then he watched in amazement as by rolling his hips, his length sank further into you. Lost in pleasure, you wrapped your legs around his hips, pulling him deeper and clenching all around him.
Law gasped, his hands trembling slightly as he lowered his forehead, letting it touch yours. His breath came out in heavy pants. “Try not to do that again, sweetheart, unless you want to end this prematurely.”
Your heart swelled as you used your hands to push some strands of hair away from his eyes, feeling the sweat on his damp forehead.
“Law. Just enjoy it. Don’t overthink it.” You cupped his face so he could stare at you. “You’re supposed to feel it with your body, not analyse every step. Okay?”
He nodded, his gaze still focused on you. His hands slithered from your hips to your waist, pressing harder as he kept nodding. “Just feel it. Okay, I can do that.”
And he did. He rocked back again, then thrust slowly into you. Law bit hard into his lower lip, brows scrunching in deep concentration. The slow pace was driving you insane, but you didn’t want to demand more, you wanted him to explore the feeling at his own pace.
“Fuck, shit. You’re so warm and tight… fuck!” He panted hard, repeating the rolling motion as his hands gripped you harder. “Your pelvic floor is contracting, reacting to the stimulation and–”
“Yes, Captain! That’s what happens when a woman is aroused.” You grinned when he stared back into your eyes. “And you’re driving me insane.”
“The books didn’t– fuck…” He stopped his reasoning midway, taking a deep breath and finally thrusting a little harder, and a little faster. Your body responded immediately to that with a heavy moan. Law’s head fell forward as he nuzzled it against the crook of your neck, his voice coming out muffled. “I don’t think I can last much longer…”
You felt him slowing down again, clearly trying to make it last so he could pull an orgasm from you.
“Then don’t, Law. Let go.” You breathed into his ear, legs wrapping tightly around him to give him the confidence to finish it.
But he was still letting his mind take over, clearly reviewing every book he had ever read, trying to find ways to last longer or to prolong your pleasure. So you rolled your hips against his, making sure he thrust deeper and harder, pulling him with your legs against you, trying to make him get lost in the feeling.
“Fuck! Don’t do that unless you want–”
“To make you come? Desperately.” You teased with a slight chuckle. “Let go, Law. Just feel me.” You urged, tangling your fingers through his hair, placing a chaste kiss on his cheek. He pulled back enough to stare into your eyes, and then something snapped in him, almost as if he had turned off the part of his brain that was restraining him.
His pace quickened, his thrusts became sloppier - desperate - while his breath came out in ragged, frantic pants. “Fuck–fuck!” You could feel him get lost in you, he was no longer overthinking, just feeling. The way his hands gripped you, the way he whispered your name between moans and curses, it sent another rush of pleasure through you and you clenched him hard.
And that was what undid him. Law stiffened, his hips jerking forward as he shut his eyes and let out a desperate groan, pleasure rippling through him. Then he collapsed forward, holding himself up by the elbows before he crushed you, letting his face bury against the crook of your neck again, warming your skin with his ragged breathing.
You held him, pulling him closer to you as he was still buried within your walls. For a moment, the only thing breaking the silence was both your gasps and heavy breaths as you tried to regain your ground. Then Law lifted his head slightly, a dazed expression on his face, which made you smirk.
“That was… wow.”
“Not bad for a first time, right, Captain?”
Law’s exhausted, satisfied chuckle as he let his head fall on your chest was all the answer you needed.

ALASTOR TENDING TO LICKING YOUR WOUNDS ft!Alastor
✧ After an accidental paper cut, Alastor loses control momentarily and licks up your blood. 0.9wc
Imagine you and Alastor are staying up late one night, trying to decorate the hotel as a celebration for surviving the recent extermination.
All of this was your idea, Alastor simply tagging along as he was intrigued by how you were planning to decorate the hotel with mere ribbons and colored paper in a single night. The new renovations have expanded the hotel extensively, almost doubling its size—intriguing him on how your little passionate project could even be possible when done alone. If you were successful, Alastor could be content by the way Charlie's face would light up in the morning. If you failed, Alastor could soak up your disappointment! It was a win-win for him.
You furrowed your brows, hunched over a coffee table in the hotel reception, kneeling on the floor as Alastor sat reading not too far from you. You were focused on delicately carving the page before you, fingers delicately wrapped around a sharp paper-knife.
Outside, the rain was pouring. You never were a fan of thunderstorms, the booming sounds from outside snapping you out of your deep concentration every couple of minutes—some of the blaring clashes pairing with a bright flicker of light that made you flinch. Alastor found you amusing, being so passionate in something no one had asked you for, in something that would be unnecessary and also unnecessarily difficult for you to be done alone. The fact that you were pulling an all-nighter for this endeavor was even more entertaining, as you'd become all cranky once the next afternoon would come.
You let out a harsh sigh, your chest falling so far it seems as though you deflated. You regained your composure, holding your two hands close together as you pressed the page down into the table below—holding it in place as you carved a particularly intricate piece in the page when a shockingly loud crash thundered from outside. You flinched much too harshly this time, your wrist slipping and the paper-knife nicking the side of your index finger. You hiss, dropping the bloodied paper knife onto the table as it stained the pure white page below.
Alastor swore the air became heavier.
He didn't know what had so severely caught his instincts, but his wide eyes immediately darted to you before he could even process the situation—eyes locked onto the deep red trickling down your index. You hadn't even begun to notice him yet, hadn't noticed the way the air in the reception hall seemed to shift at the scent of your blood, how the light momentarily flickered.
You had such a sweet aroma.
An aroma that threatened Alastor's sanity.
Alastor's breath hitched sharply, snapping the book closed by the spine as he laid it as gently as he could upon the side table by his seat. Before he could even process it, your wrist was gripped into the palm of his hand—held firmly as you looked up to him.
The blood from your index trailed down the appendage, dipping down to the joint of your thumb as you looked up to him—startled by how quickly he had moved without you even noticing.
"Ala—"
"It would be wise to be more careful with that knife of yours, my Dear." He brought your wrist closer, his eyes locked on your hand. "Your clumsiness has put me in quite a difficult position." You looked at him intently, still sitting on the ground while Alastor was bent at the waist, holding your wrist up to meet his lips—when his tongue gently ran up the side of your palm before cleaning the blood smoothly. The moment he had your taste on his tongue, he felt his sanity slip away.
This wasn't like his usual respectful self, but he was unable to concentrate. Your flesh was euphoric. The kind he'd savor for weeks, the kind he wouldn't even need to cook or prepare beforehand. Fresh off the bone sort kind of sweet, a sickeningly addictive taste paired with a perfectly prominent metallic tang that had him wanting more.
Although, he was much too fond of you to rip you apart.
And so, Alastor vouched for slipping your finger into his mouth. His long tongue wrapped around the digit, a sting from his saliva sinking into the wound had you wince—your face looked beautiful in pain.
Alastor knew you trusted him, explaining why you hadn't pulled away. Instead, looking at him with a shocked and confused expression—ignoring your pain in his favor, just like the kind little soul you are.
Alastor pulled away, plucking a handkerchief from his pocket to clean your hand completely.
"My apologies, mon cher. I hope you didn't mind my little midnight snack." Alastor smiled to you, clearing his throat in an attempt to regain his lost composure. Although, he couldn't hide the lack of light in his eyes, and he couldn't suppress the wretched thoughts that clouded his head. He wanted to sink his teeth into your neck, to hear your pilant sounds of pain as he carved his bite into your flesh. He wouldn't tear into you, no. Simply mark you, border on the edge of savouring you in his mind completely and staying the gentleman he was raised to be.
In his own strange way, Alastor cared for you.
He wanted to wrap you into his embrace, overwhelm you as you'd tried to shrink away with nowhere to escape from him. He wanted to engrave your taste deep into his memory, to dig into your arms as he'd hold you scarily still.
For now, the only desire he could fulfill now laid upon his desk. A thin tendril of his shadows had swiped both the blood-soiled page and paper knife from the coffee table behind you and delivered it to his bedroom.
Alastor was no sentimental man, but he'd treasure a memory of your flesh to the grave.
You're watching...

dickhead reiner??? hate sex??? i dunnoo!! just a quick little idea😈
as much as I love my soft, sweet, passionate, tender Reiner I will never turn down an opportunity to whore myself out and write some hate sex 🫦
hehehe enjoy!! and thank you for the delicious ask!
(also sorry about taking a hot minute on this, you sent the ask right as I was leaving work and then irl things kept distracting me lmaooo)
tags: reiner x f!reader, canon complaint timeline, oral!receiving, semi-public sex, hate sex, kinda rough sex, choking, both parties are assholes hehe, smut
Vice Chief Braun was the one person who could make your blood boil just about instantly. The way he walked around like he was the most important person on base and spoke in such a condescending tone, like he was a know it all. He ground your gears so badly, the two of you couldn't be in a room together longer than five minutes before the arguing started. You knew he felt the exact same way about you, caught the whispers between him and Zeke passing by one of their offices. God you fucking hated him.
As a tactician for the warrior unit, you were responsible for drawing up battle plans and strategies for the war in the Mid-East. Everyone valued your opinion, except one. Reiner had some sort of superiority complex returning from Paradis and always had a counterargument or just something to fucking say about whatever you had presented and it was demeaning. Zeke brought up your "attitude" several times in meetings with just him and you, and you always hit him back with "Well make sure you have a conversation with you Vice Chief too." because it wasn't just you.
Entitled fucking motherfucker who didn't even deserve the armored to begin with.
The days when Zeke wasn't available to go over strategies were the days you dreaded, because that meant you'd be going over them with Reiner. And today was one of those days.
Rapping your knuckled beneath the nameplate nailed to the door, you exhaled the long breath through your nose and tried to unscrew your face just as he opened the door. He looked you up and down, moving to the side and letting you in with no words exchanged.
"Good to see you're extra cheery today." Quipping behind you, letting the door slam.
"Don't start with me Braun, I'm not in the mood."
"What's new."
Steadying your breathing, clutching the large file against your chest, you slammed it down on top of the papers already there. Was it that hard for him to file stuff away properly?
"I've got to meet with Magath later, so let's make this quick." Announcing your urgency to him as he came to stand on the other side of the desk, plopping down in the desk chair.
"All depends on you." Pressing two fingers to his temple and letting out an annoyed sigh. Maybe one good punch to the jaw would set him straight, knock around that brain of his.
Taking another deep breath, you moved the scattered papers away from where your file was set, ignoring the way he snapped, until he eventually gave up and just let you do as you pleased. Taking out the maps that have been marked a dozen or more times, you unfolded it over everything.
"In a month, all the warriors will be shipped out to Fort Slava to take the base. Zeke has proposed using pure titans for the attack, airdropping them down to lessen the amount of fighters they'll have stationed there. You'll drop down before him and take out their artillery, leaving Zeke the opening to cripple their Navy."
"What's the point of pure titans then? I'm going to pulling all the weight for the beginning of this operation."
Was he not listening? You just explained it to him, what more detail and clarification did he need?
Sighing and pinching your brows with your thumb and index, you plopped down onto the seat behind you and glared at him, only to receive the blankest expression he's ever given you.
"The purpose of the pure titans is to keep them occupied while you drop down, they only have so many men to divide their focus, so you'll need to work quickly."
Reiner scoffed then, rolling his eyes and sitting up, hunching over the map and tracing his fingers over the lines and dots that had been placed by you and Zeke. His veiny hand was hard to pull away from, hard to not imagine the strength behind it. As much as you hated Reiner, he was attractive, conventionally attractive, too bad he was duller than a rock and the most difficult man to work with. In another universe maybe you'd be fluttering your lashes and wooing him into your bedroom, surely the man knew how to use the thing between his legs.
Fingers snapped to grab your attention, destroying the mild fantasy in your head and sending your blood pressure to skyrocketing new levels.
"I asked you a question."
"Repeat it. Obviously I didn't hear you." Snapping back, tapping your pen harshly against the map, seeing the way the fire behind his eyes burned just as brightly as yours, the mutual distaste you shared for one another.
"Have you considered the advantage of creating a blockade, scrap the pure titans and just sending in the warriors?"
"If I had, do you think I would be going over this plan with you now?" Clenching your pen and roughly circling where Fort Slava was and digging the end into the paper. "Creating a blockade requires supplies and patience, Marley is out of patience and wants this done the quickest way possible."
Reiner rolled his eyes and sat back in his chair, fishing for the box of cigarettes in his coat pocket, lighting one and taking a long drag before holding it between his fingers. "It's a waste of pure titans when we could be sending them to Paradis."
"Marley isn't going to waste pure titans on Paradis, not when we're about to have the Mid-east in a chokehold they can't get out of, use your fucking head Braun."
The end of his cigarette was pinched between his fingers as he brought it up for another drag, maintaining eye contact with you and that hateful look was shining brighter. Swallowing the smoke, being considerate for once, Reiner mulled over his own thoughts for a moment.
"And Zeke has approved all of this?"
"Obviously yes, there's still a few minor tweaks to be made, but I'm running it by you since you are second in the chain of command."
"Let me guess, minor tweaks as in bending to Zeke's will and letting him have his way?" Laughing in a way that made your blood boil from the condescension. The fucking ego on him.
"This is exactly why I don't like going over shit with you."
"Oh? Is it because someone actually challenges you, makes you think?" Sitting up in his chair and inhaling the cigarette until it was nearly finished, not bothering to swallow the smoke, letting it pour from his mouth as he spoke. "You've got a big head and even bigger ego for being a tactician."
The unbridled rage that turned into a fire in your veins was reaching a boiling point, standing up and walking to his side of the desk, jabbing a finger into his chest. "You're one to talk."
"Oh am I?" Standing up as he grabbed another cigarette from his pocket, swatting your finger away and forcing you to backtrack away from him. You forgot how big the man actually was, dwarfing you easily and suddenly the thought of that was arousing. Sure you hated Braun with every fiber in you, but shit, you'd been so busy lately it was a struggle to find time to give yourself relief.
"That's what I said."
He laughed again and kept walking toward you, knowing sooner or later you were going to back into a wall. "Your ego is bigger than the fucking titan you wield, maybe even bigger than Zeke's and yet you have nothing to show for, all talk."
Now he was beginning to actually look angry and something in you was satisfied with that, curling into a smirk as you realized that you were getting under his skin, just right. His face morphed into a sick satisfied look as he leaned in close once you hit the back on the wall he walked you into, purposely blowing smoke over your face.
"At least I'm doing the actual fighting, you just sit there at a desk on your high horse for drawing up strategies that somehow work out, after of course we change a thing or two to make them work that is."
Impulsively you slapped him across the face and shoved him away, breathing hard and shaking with anger. He said all those things on purpose to get to you, but you didn't fucking care, he deserved it. Reiner looked at you appalled, the cigarette in the corner of his mouth dangling and he took another drag.
"Fuck you."
"Oh I'm sure you want too."
What? Why was heat rushing throughout your body when he said that? Why was your anger simmering as he gave that smug look, one corner of his mouth curled into a smirk as he dangles a cigarette off his lips.
"I don't." Firmly stating, though you weren't even confident in that answer at all. Reiner chuckles and steps towards you again, slowly. You screw and pinch your face as much as you could but it didn't feel real even to you.
"You're a bad liar."
"Even if I was, why would I waste my time with someone who barely knows how to use the thing between his legs."
"You wouldn't be wasting your time sweetheart."
And that was all it took for you to be sprawled out on his desk, papers and files scattered all over the floor from him clearing it off to throw you on top. Hands frantically tore at the other's body, lips biting and sucking the skin that was revealed. All inhibitions were thrown out the door once he sat in his desk chair, leaving you on that desk after ravenging you with his lips, fisting and stroking his thick cock. Whatever came over you was unknown, because you were sliding off the desk and dropping to your knees to suck the tip into your mouth.
His head flew back and a hand fisted your hair instantly, as you started to bob up and down despite the instant ache in your jaw from his size. He was more vocal than you expected, groans and moans of your name slipping so easily from his lips that it made you bit prideful you were quickly able to reduce him to this state.
The greedy fucker shoved his cock down your throat without warning and you choked, digging your nails into his thighs and yet that only turned him on more it seemed, laughing in satisfaction.
"So eager to swallow a cock huh?"
A small pinch to his thigh and he was letting you breathe again, coming up quickly and furrowing your brows. It was funny how he thought he had all the control, and you weren't going to let him think he did.
Standing up on your feet, undoing the belt that held your trousers up, leaving the white coat he ripped open on, your tits bouncing as you finished undressing.
"All you know how to do his talk." Grabbing his face, squeezing his mouth between your hand as you swung your legs over to plant your knee into the leather of the chair, hovering over his leaky cock. "Bet that was the first time someone's deepthroated you huh?"
The warmth of your cunt radiating down on his cock, sent a shiver up his spine, teasing him so deliciously in thinking you were seconds away from spearing yourself on him.
"Not the first and certainly won't be the last." Growling back through his puckered lips, eventually shaking his head out of your hand and pinning it to you back. "Bet you've never taken someone that size before, I could hear the way you fuckin' choked."
There was a satisfaction in his voice, one that angered you so easily. Without giving it much thought, you slammed yourself down on his dick, gasping out and clawing at the nape of his neck, feeling a tiny bit of blood seep under your nails. Stupid bastard may have actually been right about something, you don't think you've taken someone as thick as he is and you were struggling to adjust.
Reiner shared a similar reaction to yours, throwing his head back and cursing out as loudly as he could, the warmth of your cunt suffocating around him in an instant. Despite hating you with everything, he did give you a moment to adjust, he wasn't an animal. But once you were, he was digging his nails into the meat of you ass and fucking up into you, biting down your neck and sucking noticeable marks along the way. And you wouldn't have that.
"The fuck are you doing?" Choking out in a whiny voice, yanking him back by his hair and trying to suppress the moans from the way his cockhead was pressing against your cervix with every thrust.
His eyes shone with the asshole mischief and he harshly bit down on the side of your neck again, pulling himself free from your grip. God, if he weren't somewhat important to Marley, you would've fucking killed him. But you couldn't deny how good you felt right now, so maybe you wouldn't, maybe keep him around to scratch that certain itch that came from time to time.
His pace remained relentless, fast and unforgiving as his feet planted into the wood floors and the squeak of the chair gave way to the rhythm he fucked you too. It was all blurring, your vision nothing but as haze at the fat thick cock of Reiner Braun brought you nearer and nearer to an orgasm.
"You offer yourself this freely to everyone or am I just lucky?" Sneering in such a way the fiery lust boiling in your gut was mixing with anger. Where does he get his fucking audacity from?
"Fuck you." Spitting back, gyrating your hips against his pelvis, stimulating your clit on the sliver of skin revealed by his white button-up riding up on his stomach. And shit, he was built, seeing the ends of his adonis belt and starting to salivate over the man you hated.
"What do you think I'm doing baby?" Lifting you suddenly after breathing out his smart ass remark and carrying you the short distance to lay you back on his desk. The khaki coat and button-up came off, and to your disappointment he wore an undershirt.
Locking your legs around his waist lasted about half a second, his hands coming down to pin your legs to the desk, another cocky and arrogant looking coming from him. You tried to kick him in retaliation, but his lips landed on yours and it was impossible to try and act disgusted, because they were soft and plush, tasting the remnants of his last cigarette on his tongue as it delved into your mouth.
When he broke the kiss, he sent a sharp thrust into you, and you wailed from pleasure, subsequently coming around him and the satisfaction on his face was enough to make you regret allowing yourself to do so in the first place.
Reiner held on of your hip as his vigorous pace renewed, slamming into you and grunting, holding his shirt out of the way with his teeth, giving you a clear view of his sculpted body. Every part of you wanted to bite and suck at the muscle, mark him like he did you, but he was too out of reach.
Time felt like a blur as he stretched and split you open on his cock, so much so you barely registered when his thrusts turned erratic and his groans turned into whines, the telling sign that he was close. Your mind was screaming to tell him to cum in you and you didn't have any explanation as to why you wanted that.
"Getting close? C'mon big boy whine for me." Taunting him and seeing the irritation flash across those golden eyes, a new determination written in them and your cunt fluttered in happiness because you knew he was about to do something out of spite.
A meaty hand came to wrap around your throat, the one on your hip as he still held his undershirt out of the way with his teeth. Arching and moaning like an absolute whore, you threw your legs around him at the last second and held him flush to your hips as his cum filled you immediately.
Reiner released his shirt and panted, still keeping his hand tight around your throat and you merely mouth the words 'do it' to see if he actually would. You had no healing powers and knew the guilt that clung to him and you wondered if he was the actual killer him and others made him out to be. He hated you right?
"Fucking psycho." Was all he said as he released his hand from around your throat, cock still buried inside you. He hovered above you, giving you a disgusted look and you returned the same, kicking him at the hip and allowing his softening cock to slip out.
Nothing but uncomfortable silence filled the air as the two of you dressed, a bit of shame lingering and starting to build. You don't regret it, maybe a little for the fact that it was him, but you don't entirely.
Fastening your belt and fidgeting with your buttons on the white coat, you heard the click of a lighter and saw Braun lighting a cigarette, with his pants still undone but his dick put away. God did he really have no decency?
Noticing your staring, puffing out a plum of smoke, he smirks. "I've got someone coming by in a few minutes, no point in dressing all the way."
What a fucking whore.
"Gross." Gathering the papers you brought in from off the floor, with no help from the man still in his chair. Once it was all put back, you glared at him, snatching the cigarette from his lips and inhaling sharply, swallowing the smoke. He didn't say anything, simply took out another.
"I hope what we went over sticks, because if you fuck this up, it won't be Magath dishing out the punishment, so try not to drain yourself completely." Slamming his office door and marching down the hall, ashing the cigarette you stole while heading to your meeting with Magath.

‘SAILOR SONG,
-THEPENGUIN!SOFIA FALCONE X READER-

⋆ 𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒 ; You run into Sofia at Berto’s funeral. You’re the only one who can calm her down.
⋆ tags/warnings. sofia falcone x female reader. ANGST AND COMFORT!! Might make this a series if anyone likes it enough <3 she’s my literal BABY im so in love with her it makes me want to kms! she deserves SO much better i just wanna give her a hug (and a kiss). slight homophobia mentions, past relationships (but unclear), THE HANGMAN!!!!! Based on 1x2, bertos funeral ! she is my girlfailure wife and i need her
♫ “Begging, baby, would you please? / Do the things you said you'd do to me. / And when we're getting dirty, I forget all that is wrong / I sleep so I can see you 'cause I hate to wait so long.” Sailor Song by Gigi Perez
High tides. That’s what Gotham is, after the haunted return of the Batman. At least, that’s all you see around you now. Theres blood in the water, and the sharks have all come to hunt.
You think it’s all bullshit. The bat, the Riddler, this fucking funeral. You hardly knew the man, and you know it’s a waste of time. Everyone dressed in black here is only cutting their losses. It’s all out of fear. Berto was unabashedly himself. And that was weak. He tried too hard to be his father.
You scan the funeral, which might as well be a party for some of these fuckers, and hold your breath. Okay, maybe you’re more upset than you’d like to admit. Nihilism appeases the soul where optimism does not. You’d only had very few conversations with him, but he was…nice, to some extent.
It’s a day of mourning. And that’s what you do. Memories come to you in unsafe and ungrateful waves, alerting you of every interaction you’d ever had with the man of the night.
“Hey, so,” He scratched the side of his head with his index finger. “Wha- What’s up with you and my sister?” A bitter smile on his face, nose scrunched in faux curiosity. You’d known better. You grew up your entire life in Gotham, and you had known a thinly veiled threat when you’d heard it.
“Sofia?” You’d asked, lighting a cigarette. The sunset flooded through Italy’s streets. It wasn’t your first summer here. You took a long drag of smoke, thinking of how to phrase your answer. The Falcones weren’t stupid, none of them were, not really. “Nothing.” You settled on, dabbling it out in the ash tray. “Why?”
You’d expected some bullshit to fly from his mouth. The family…That you were an outsider. That whatever the two of you had going on was distasteful. A woman and a woman. Not a good look in the papers. Weak willed woman frolicking together in Gotham’s underground. You expected him to insult you, and her. What would their father think?
But Alberto didn’t say anything like that.
“If you hurt her,” He began, and you felt yourself visibly recoil. “I’ll have to, you know,” He motioned with his hands, forming a gun with his forefinger against his temple, and a pew sound. “Pop your top.”
Returning to yourself, you find it in yourself to be greatful. For Alberto, not ratting the two of you out. Whatever you two had…was more than the both of you ever managed to let on. Small touches here and there, kisses when you played house. Laughing underneath streetlamps, painting her nails. And then she got locked up in Arkham. Your best…friend.
And now she’s finally released. Idiots with poster boards outside begging for her return to the loony bin. She’s somewhere in this house, on the same floor as you.
You mindlessly sip on your glass. Alchohol is your real friend tonight. The undergrounds in shambles, the entire city is. What’s stopping you from leaving? You don’t know. Not until you see her.
She trails in the room, and the first thing you hear are overwhelming whispers. You don’t pay attention to them, how could you? Her hair tied up messily, sticky bangs and beads of sweat on her forehead. Her makeup is neat, but just barely smudged.
She’s bug eyed as she enters, chest heaving in…anger? fear? She pays much more attention to the whispers than you do, you realize.
“She’s crazy,” You hear from behind you. Faces hide behind there glasses and hands, leaning down and gossiping amongst themselves. It makes you sick. She makes you sick. Even more so, as she seems to lose herself. It starts with a small bite, digging at the finger food, before she picks up heaps of it in her palms. Over and over and over again…
“That’s enough,” You whisper, sternly, grabbing her forearm. Her mouth almost drops open with the food, eyes widening even more. She stops chewing, and for a moment, it seems everything and everyone is finally scilenced.
She doesn’t say a word in her shock, her arm falling down. She lets you guide her out the room, and the both of you ignore the comments from passerbys.
When you finally reach an empty room, you close the door. Her blood runs cold, and she’s perpelled to the edge of the room, like a cornered and vulnerable prey animal.
“What are you doing here?” Sofia drawls, clearing her throat. Her cheeks are tinged pink from embarassment, and her nose twitches in frustration.
“I knew him too.”
“No, you didn’t.” She remarks, firm in her stance. Her jaw is clenched tight, and you sigh. You make your way over to a couch, sitting down lazily. It doesn’t feel how it used to.
“Yeah, I didn’t. But I got an invitation.”
She ignores you. Straight to the point.
“You’ve heard. What they are saying about me, out there.”
“Hard not too.”
She scoffs, letting out a hmph noise. She turns away from you, blinking.
“Well. Do you believe it?” She tests, arms crossed. You feel your eyebrows scrunch, and you give her a once over. You want to scream at her, that she isn’t crazy. That whatever she’s done isn’t her fault, not completely. But you can’t claw the words out- not after not seeing her in years.
“You do, don’t you?” She continues. She stops pacing the room to take a seat parallel to you. You bite your tongue.
A beat of silence, and something in her dark eyes takes it as your final answer. Theres something deeper, darker swirling in them you can’t quite place. She’s not the same girl you knew as a child.
“No,” You whisper, finally, and watch her perk up. “You’re not crazy.”
She stays silent as she looks at you disbelievingly. Like you’re saying it simply to appease her. You find it in yourself to let the tension melt away, leaning back into the cushions.
“You don’t need help.” You affirm, and her expression is unreadable. “You aren’t broken. Or whatever those fuckhead doctors told you in Arkham. You’re just…” You trail off, needing to word this right. “You’re just your fathers daughter.”
You expect her to ask ‘what thats supposed to mean?’ but she doesn’t. No…she looks too vulnerable in this light to fight back against you. Again, silence sounds, and you wonder if you’ve made a mistake.
It’s only when she speaks, voice trembling, do you see her resolve break.
“Why didn’t you visit me?” It’s quiet, almost a whimper, and her voice breaks. “In Arkham?”
There it is. The question you’d been dreading, mostly because you didn’t know the answer yourself.
Her eyebrows are pulled together, nails clenched into her own skin. You go to tear them from her palms, opening them up to find the marks. She doesn’t say a word. She makes no move to push you away. She’s too tired. She’s greiving, her father, her mother, her brother, her sanity.
You lean down, and press a gentle kiss to her nails. A strangled sound is ripped from her at the action, and you notice how her eyes turn glossy. You decide to ignore the question for now, watching tears finally slip from her eyes. She’d been holding them in for what felt like forever. But not with you, she finds, she could never hide anything from you.
You pull her in, embracing her for all its worth. She immeadiatley falls into you, open mouthed sobs against your shoulder. You hug her tight, and it feels blissful. After so long of only seeing her on TV reports and pictures, touching her, feeling her, is heavenly. Just like it used to be.
She still smells the same. Her makeup runs as she cries into your shoulder, and you gently hush her. You pet her head and hair, cradling her like she’s fragile glass about to break. She’s yours. You’re hers. You always have been.
Rocking her back in forth, you place a kiss on her forehead. When she leans into you, you place more. Soft little pecks across her skin, to her head, wrist. You kiss all her tears away as they fall. Sweet and salty, wetting your lips. You feel her try to catch her breath.
She pulls away from you, hair messy. Her lips are parted, and her pupils blown, and theres a silent promise in the air between the two of you. I’m with you. Im on your side. I am the woman who wants you to win.
Her hand trails to your cheek, and she looks at you worshipfully. Her eyes flit to your lips, as if asking, begging for just one.
You nod. You could never deny her anything. She leans in, tentiavley, before connecting your lips. Memories flash through your head. She tastes the same, acacia honey and cigarette smoke. Besides yourself, you deepen the kiss, and she responds tenfold.
Her hands thread through your hair with a gentle tug, as if there is a feral need buried underneath her skin, to possess you. Remind herself you are here, and you are hers, not an illusion. Not a nightmare. She would kill for you.
You have to almost fight her to part for air, pulling away with heavy breaths. She doesn’t let you get far, resting her forehead against yours.
For better or for worse, she has stuck her claws in you. You realize she will not let you go. Not tonight. Not tommorrow. Not ever.
Breath intermingling, her body heat radiating against yours, you can’t find it in yourself to care.
You stay like that, unanswered questions still plaguing the silence. You’ll answer them one day. For now, you choose only to lose yourselves in one another.
You regret not telling Alberto the truth before he died. She’s not nothing to you. She’s everything.

I Feel You
|| 1.07k words ||
no outbreak Joel x female inexperienced reader
tags: no Y/N (ever!!!), dub-con, mean but sweet Joel, unprotected vaginal sex, pronouns for genitals, slight power imbalance if you squint, reader is afab, size kink, ~just the tip~
came up with this on a whim while writing a paper, as one does. just a short drabble. if anyone wants more, let me know? i could be easily persuaded to write a second part...
reblogs and likes are greatly appreciated!
thank you @saradika for your header
Joel is kissing down your neck, hot and wet across your skin, his breath making your skin break out into goosebumps. He’s undressed you so tenderly, worshiping every bare part of your body presented to him.
“You are so fucking pretty,” he breathes against your soft tummy. “Too fuckin’ pretty for me.”
He licks his way down your lower tummy to your bare pussy, public hair covering your mound. Joel pulls back to stare admiringly, his thumbs running up and down your outer lips, his tip of his thumb just pushing in. “Is she ready for me?” His eyes look up at you.
Your arms are covering your breasts and your chest is breathing heavily. You still haven’t let Joel enter you - doing everything but.
You want to, oh god do you want to, but you were nervous. You’d never taken anyone as big as him and you were scared.
You bite your lip. “I’m not sure if I’m ready…”
Joel smiles sweetly at you. “She sure feels ready,” he says as he lets his index finger slip just inside you, not touching your clit. Just resting inside you. You choke on your breath and your hips squirm in response. “Your body is ready too, I reckon,” he says as he lets your heat pulsate around him.
You look down at Joel, who is looking down at your pussy. He seems mesmerized by it. You take this moment to appreciate his soft, broad body; the strength you can see underneath his skin when his arms are caressing your legs. The grip you feel when he pulls your head close to his, rutting against your leg while kissing you deeply.
“What if I give her a little kiss?” He coos as he bends his face to your pussy, inhaling your arousal. “You want that?”
You moan and nod slowly, your arms still covering your breasts shyly. Joel smiles darkly at you and leans in, kissing your lips sweetly, excruciatingly slow, and letting his tongue slip inside. You gasp and raise your hips; you feel Joel smile against you and his hands skim your fleshy outer thighs. He presses his face harder against you, his thumbs coming up to slowly spread you apart, your pussy glistening in the low light of the bedroom. He pulls back for just a quick look and leans in again to lick a long stripe up to your clit. You let out a guttural grown, which makes Joel swirl his tongue around your hard clit.
“I think she’s ready now,” he murmurs against you; you can feel his hot breath against your desperate cunt.
Joel doesn’t wait for a response. He sits up on his haunches and pulls his hard cock out of his boxer briefs. You’ve seen him before but not like this. Ready, stiff, throbbing at the thought of you. He brings a heavy large hand to his cock and strokes lazily, noticing your eyes fixated on him. “You think you can handle him, baby girl?”
You look up at Joel with nervous eyes. He smiles and leans in to give you a breathtaking kiss - his tongue sweeps across the inside of your mouth, sucking on your tongue like he sucked your clit.
When Joel pulls back from you, he whispers, “let me just put him inside you. Just the tip. You can handle that, can’t you sweet girl?”
Your mind is so foggy and you nod absently, dumbly. Joel smirks; he holds his cock in his hand and lets it sweep up and down your slit teasingly, pulling out an embarrassed moan from your mouth. He then lets the head of his cock slip into you, your wet warmth enveloping his sensitive head and he lets out a throaty moan. Your skin feels on fire, down to the roots of your hair on your scalp.
Joel lets himself just stay inside you, cooing and murmuring softly to you to settle you down. When he feels you relax more, he starts thrusting shallowly, careful to keep just the head in you. He lets out words of praise, telling you you look so pretty, you feel so good, he wants all of you soon. Told you it didn’t hurt so bad, now did it? Will you let him slip all the way inside you, let him show you how much he loves you? He slides the tip of his cock up to your clit, the precum wetly circling your hard bud, getting under your hood, and you hum out the sweetest sigh. Joel, Joel, Joel.
Joel pulls your arms away from your breasts and suckles on your left nipple, letting his hips groove against you. “Prettiest fucking tits I’ve ever seen, don’t hide them from me, sweet girl,” he rambles; he slips his cock head into your tight heat again and you keen so prettily.
“Oh fuck, baby, I’m going to come,” he croaks out and lifts himself up, holding your hip bones tightly in his grasp. “I’m gonna fucking come right now.”
“Not inside Joel, please,” you rasp, watching him through half lidded eyes.
Joel doesn’t respond but keeps thrusting superficially. He brings his thumb to your sweet clit and rubs a haphazard circle in time with his thrusts. “Come first, baby, please, I need to see your face, please,” he begs.
You let yourself succumb to him, your back arching off the bed, crying out until actual tears fall from your face over how fucking good you feel. Over how he feels just inside you. Joel starts to feel his cock leak and sees your eyes widen open at him, silently begging not to come inside you yet. He pulls out just in time to come messily over your pussy, his thick white ropes of cum tangle in your pubic hair.
Joel collapses on you, your chests heaving in tandem. He kisses you wetly and sloppily, humming against your mouth. “See? Not so bad was it?”
You close your eyes and purr quietly.
“Think you can take all of me next time,” Joel says as he buries his face in your neck and you lift your arm to glide your fingertips across his broad back.
“Mmm, yeah, next time,” you agree.
Joel’s already got an idea on how to prep you next time.

Yesterday afternoon, when I was in a bit of a frazzle getting ready to go out, the postie knocked on my door and delivered the most magical gift I've ever received 🥹
Not one, but FOUR gorgeous binds from @plor-bindery 😭
I am utterly blown away by Plor's generosity, skill, and attention to detail. These have become the most treasured items on my bookshelf... dare I say my home (don't tell my cat)?!
More incohrent gushing and pics under the cut...
Everybody Hates a Tourist
That colour combination! The texts-as-a-blurb! The magical burst of rainbows (and pineapples!)! And don't even get my started on the interiors...
The postcard picture - also found on the fic's banner and Spotify playlist - made me gasp. And each chapter has its own gorgeous illustration, and - god, can we talk about drop caps please?! And the texts?
-
Under Giant Mountains
The foiling here is just *chef's kiss*, and that colour green is so gorgeous. The dragon! The quote! I also love the size of this one, it's so smart to choose a smaller format, it feels like a proper vintage book, like something found on Draco's shelf in his little cabin. Absolute perfection.
-
In My Room
I cannot believe I am holding a bound Dron book in my hands 😭 And one with such thoughtful artwork, so true to the story! The record player! The chess board with the chess pieces, weed and vinyls! I want the endpaper for this one plastered on my walls please... it's so Ron.
-
Kinkuary '23
When I opened the package and unwrapped this one last, I thought Plor had sent me a vintage book, but then after flipping through it, I realised it was covered in a modesty jacket 😈 Which I love, because again, it feels so... naughty and Victorian 😌 Picking that quote from the gay orgy fic is the absolutely cherry here. Brilliant! Inspired!
There is so much detail here I don't even know where to start. I love how each story includes its description, how each scene is separated with handcuffs, and... the index! Reading through some of my (quite frankly insane) tags had me absolutely howling (shoutout to "Draco Malfoy... is HORNY").
Here they all are, taking pride of place on my shelf. Honestly, the most beautiful gift. I can't even begin to explain what it feels like to hold my own writing, in black and white and on paper, in my hands. So surreal. I am so, so grateful. Thank you so much Plor, you lovely, lovely human!

Old Recipes
A/N: Written for @the-slumberparty's December Daze Challenge.
Prompt: baking together but neither know what you're doing
A/N2: Reader is implied femme (use of "Doll"). No other physical descriptors used.
Warnings: None that I know of. Let me know if I missed any!

"Doll, I'll be honest, I'm fluent in about 7 languages, trained to read codes in those languages, and I still can't make heads or tails of this thing."
The "thing" in question was a handwritten recipe you'd found amongst your great-grandmother's things. While the family tore through her apartment to get what they wanted, you'd managed to snag her recipes collection. It was an amalgam of index cards, newspaper and magazine cutouts, and random pieces of paper with recipes written on them. You even found a napkin with a recipe on it!
Unfortunately, some of Grandma's handwritten recipes were less than legible. You'd been staring at this one in particular but the pieces weren't coming together, so you asked your boyfriend, Bucky to help out.
You take the recipe back from him. "Well we can agree to 2 eggs, 18 oz cake mix and a 1 lb can or canister of chocolate frosting."
"There's no baking instructions but raw egg doesn't seem like the kind of thing to eat. Even back in the 40's."
"I'm pretty sure that last bit says to cover with saran wrap and put it in the refrigerator."
"Maybe we're supposed to use the instructions on the cake mix box?"
"That would make sense," you nod. "But then, do we add 2 eggs on top of what the instructions say? And what the hell even is this line? It looks like it's saying 8 oz of kale!"
"Well, it's possible the eggs are meant to be like beaten egg whites?"
"But it says to beat them with the chocolate frosting."
"That is a good point."
"Wait," you squint your eyes in concentration. "Is that supposed to be 8 oz of cool whip? Look further down in the instructions."
"Okay, that's a possibility, but that line clearly says 'remove and cover with chocolate chips'. What are we removing it from? Is this recipe seriously asking us to bake frosting?"
"Well maybe that's the wrong ingredient," you mumble. You vow to beat this recipe some day.
Bucky kisses the top of your head, "please don't overwork yourself on this. Sometimes things just get lost to time." You pout at that, making him chuckle. "Right, I should know better than to try to dissuade you."
"Maybe F.R.I.D.A.Y. can help," you muse. "Can you get me an appointment with Tony?"
"For a recipe?" Bucky huffs in surprise.
"Make it a challenge! Tell Tony you bet even his best can't decipher a handwritten recipe!"
That makes Bucky laugh. "He'd definitely jump at the challenge, but I don't know that he'll be happy about putting so many resource behind a family recipe that was made maybe once or twice."
"But you'll ask him?" you pout with your best puppy dog eyes, knowing Bucky can't resist.
Bucky gently sighs as he gives you an eye roll. "Yes, I will ask."
"Thank you!" you chirp before covering him in kisses.

my kinda love; chapter index
‘AND I’M BAD LIKE THE BARBIE. I’m a doll, but I still wanna party,’
“Donnie, baby, you in there?”
“Yeah!” You called back, loud enough for your coworker to hear through the door. You pressed the tube of red lipstick against your bottom lip, peering into the mirror, filling in the outline you had done in black. When you didn’t receive an immediate answer, you continued humming along to the song playing quietly from your phone. “Pink vette like I’m ready to bend. ‘Imma ten so I’m pullin a ken, likeee.”
Your coworker entered the dressing room – you were the only one there. Most of the other girls from the afternoon shift had gone home already.
“Some dude wants to rent you,” She told you.
“No. I don’t do private rooms,” You replied without even looking back. You knew who she was. You weren’t the biggest fan. “I’m good, Mandy.”
“He asked specifically for you,” She added. “Offered a lotta money, too. Helluva lot more than we normally charge.”
You froze up at that. Initially, your first thought was to send her off a second time. Then, you thought of her running off with your money.
“Is he one of them greasy, sleazy old guys?” You asked. It was wild, how quickly you perked up when you heard that. “Last guy was throwin’ himself onto me. I should’ve filed a police report.”
“Oh, stop your ‘bitchin,” The girl sighed. “He’s paying 200 just to see your ass.”
If you had a tail, it would have started wagging.
What? A girl had bills to pay. “So he is a greasy old pervert.”
“No, actually. He’s a fine, young thing. Well, not young, but younger than most of the guys we usually get back here,” She trailed off in thought. You watched her body move in the corner of the mirror. “Sexy as hell. Serious, businessman type. Tall, blond, handsome, a jawline that could cut paper,” here, she bent over, leaning over you and muttering the next words into your ear, “I could always take him off your hands, y’know.”
“As if,” You replied. Spinning the chair back around, you got up. “Better not be expecting nothing extravagant. I’m considering this overtime.”
With a deep breath, standing in front of the cherry red door, your heart began to pound against you chest. It was some strange mixture of nerves and excitement you felt as you raised your hand to knock.
Here goes nothing. You reached for the doorknob and entered the private room, turning back only to lock it behind you.
“Special delivery!” you crooned, trying to embody a playful tone to mask the jittery feeling within. When you turned around to face the client, you were caught by surprise.
Your wide eyes traced over a familiar silhouette – broad shoulders, perfectly-fitted, navy blue two-piece suit that clung to his large arms, and matching slacks that clung to his legs – his widespread, casual position hinted at sophistication. A pretty, sharp, angular face framed by neatly-cropped blond hair. A tasteful timepiece on his wrist caught your eye.
Narrow eyes obscured by peculiar glasses, chiseled cheekbones and jawline. His blond hair – framing his apricot skin – was done up carefully, perfectly, sweeping over his head like a ray of sunlight. You recognized him by his signature scowl.
He came back for more?
You liked your lips, trying to play it cool (like you hadn’t been waiting for him to come back). “Oh, hey, it’s you again,” you said with a smirk. Strutting over to him, you cooed, “Couldn’t stay away?”
He’s so fucking hot.
Though his response wasn’t verbal, the pink hue that dusted his face was not lost on you. You swayed your hips from side to side. “Can you give me somethin’ to work with? I don’t usually do these rooms, you know.”
The devastatingly handsome man swallowed, fixing his gaze on the door – the one you had locked on the way in. As you worked your way between his legs, teasingly dragging your hands up and down your body, his gaze wandered back to you. Shamelessly, you reveled in the attention – studying his reaction.
You could smell his cologne from here – again – and, shit, it made your head spin all over again. The warm notes lingered beneath the collar of his dress shirt. Amber. Wood. Musk. Something dark?
“So I’ve heard,” The man replied, finally breaking his silence. His voice was a revelation – deep, mellow, and smooth, carrying a certain tone of weariness that seemed to add to his enigmatic charm. Charm? Yes, you supposed he charmed you.
He loosened his tie and undid the top button on his shirt to let some fresh air in. The action drew your attention to his neck, provoking you to take a moment to appreciate the details your coworker had emphasized: Tall, blond, with a jawline that could indeed cut paper.
You were wretched. You had to have been. This is so wrong.
“You seem tense,” You remark, making your second attempt at breaking the ice. “You’re new to the scene, aren’t you?”
The handsome stranger – Nanami, if you remembered correctly – licked his lips, drawing mindless shapes over the deep-toned fabric that covered his knee. “Is it that obvious?” he asks, a faint smile playing on his lips.
The movement did not go unnoticed.
“A little,” You huffed out a quiet laugh. “Do you want a dance? We could just sit and chat, too, if you want. I don’t mind. I know your type tend’ta like talking.”
You couldn’t control the way your eyes flitted down over his toned thighs – mind hazy with unwelcome thoughts. The temptation to crawl into his lap a second time was strong, but you reminded yourself of the situation – he was your roommate’s teacher, for fuck’s sake. Your roommate’s handsome… muscular… expensive-looking teacher… with a deep, sexy voice that you could hardly resist.
You must have been ovulating. That was the only excuse.
“I won’t make you put on a show for me,” Nobara’s professor trailed off, eyes distant, clearly lost in thought. He seemed to snap out of it after a moment, pretty brown eyes peering into yours – they looked so dark up close. “As crazy as it sounds, I only wanted to speak to you.”
Your sultry facade cracked a bit at that, surprised by the sudden turn of the conversation. From your experience, men usually came here with only one thing in mind. He wanted to talk… to you. Oh my god.
You nearly squealed. Clearing your throat and pressing your legs together, you turned to hide your flustered face from the older man. “Alright,” you said. “You have 30 minutes.” Plopping down on the couch next to him, you threw your legs over his lap. “What’s your name, handsome stranger?”
You already knew his name. Still, to keep up appearances, you played coy with him. You knew that, reasonably, there was no reason you should be continuing to entertain him — financial commpensation aside, though you could always reimburse him. You should have turned back the moment you realized it was him.
Then again… he had come to see you. It wasn’t like he knew you were his student’s roommate, but that was besides the point. That alone was moral justification enough for you.
The stiff man had his eyes trained on the spot where your legs had been thrown haphazardly over his. Then, nervously, he answered, “Nanami. Kento.”
Kento. You liked that name. It rolled off the tongue real easy — a buttery smooth name for a man as composed as him.
“Nice to meet you Nanami… Kento,” You chipped, mimicking his prose. “Donetta DiVine. I’m sure you already knew that, though. Do you wanna start, or should I?”
Nanami Kento knitted his brows. “Start…?”
You rolled your eyes rather playfully, giving his leg a nudge with your heel. You had ditched the stage platforms for a smaller pair of stilettos. “What do you do for a living?”
He licked his lips. After a brief pause, he answered, “I can’t really say, but I teach on the side.”
“Ooh— mysterious…” You grinned. Leaning into the couch, you braced your chin on your hand, staring into his eyes. It didn’t take much effort to play the role of the ‘interested’ siren like it normally did. Not with him. “You already know what I do,” You added, “You look tired.”
His brown eyes widened with surprise.
Shit, I overstepped.
You took your statement back quickly, “Sorry, sorry, I didn’t mean it like that.”
“No, it’s not—“ He trailed off. Something in his harsh expression softened. “You’re right. Just the first person to notice.”
If your attraction to the man had been any more obvious, you would’ve been waving a sign around with his name on it.
“Really? You’ve got such tired eyes,” You continued anyway. You figured you would at least try to make the most of this half hour with him. “Wanna talk about it?”
He sighed, “Where would I even begin?”
“Your week?” You answered, making a rolling gesture with your spare hand. “How… how was it?”
He looked equal parts confused and intrigued by you, quirking a perfecftly arched brow before clearing his throat. “My week was alright. I started work again after taking a leave of absence for a few months.”
“No kidding…” You trailed off. It didn’t take much to make your interested tone seem real, as you felt nothing but the most genuine sense of interest while listening to him drone on in that deep, raspy voice of his. You could have listened to it for hours. “What happened?”
Something flashed in his eyes. It was quick, fleeting – you almost missed it. “Workplace injury,” He sighed. “If it’s alright, I’d rather not go into detail about it.”
This guy’s like a brick wall.
“Did you heal up okay?” You asked, eyes wide and prying.
He didn’t seem to mind you much. That was a good sign.
“Had to undergo some minor surgery but, yes, I’m fine. Thank you for asking,” He smiled, actually smiled, and it made your chest stir with something unfamiliar. He was devastatingly handsome – the kind of handsome you kept in a little locket in your pocket when you went to war, or something like that. “My bosses have been pressuring me to come back ever since I left. One superior of mine in particular… has been a nuisance. I was under the impression that sick leave was supposed to be a period of peace… but I guess I thought wrong.”
You laughed at his attempt at humor. It came easily to you. Too easily. “I know how you feel. I busted my ass a few months ago. Twisted my ankle real bad,” You raised your leg off of his lap, twirling your stiletto heel around in the air, cutting through it like a knife. “These things are deadly. Boss gave me a solid two days before he started blowing up my phone asking when I was going to be back. It’s like… can you let me live?”
He laughed, then – really laughed, the kind that made his chest rumble, head thrown back against the cushiony couch. And as he released the melodious sound that made your head spin, his eyes creased at the corners. The experience gap between the two you couldn’t have been more apparent. He was a grown man, hardened by years of trials and tribulations – a mysterious one, at that. And there you were, a naive little dancer with your legs strewn over his lap like he was a partner and not a client. He seemed so wise beyond his years, something only accentuated by the tiredness in his eyes. You longed to hear him drone on about his life a little longer, 30 minutes be damned.
“My superior and I actually went to highschool together. He’s been up my ass as long as I can remember,” He hummed, licking his lips, and you followed the path of his tongue as it wet the skin like a hungry feline.
“Which superior?” You asked, mindlessly picking at the fabric of the velour couch beneath you. “The one you were here with last time? With the white hair?”
When the man knit his brows together, you froze up. Shit. I just gave myself away.
There was a brief, tense pause, during which you tried to focus on the music playing from the speakers, the jazzy tune, the faint remnants of a song playing in the showroom outside and up the hall, the wallpaper – anything but him.
“Yes, that would be him,” He answered, finally. He seemed to be… intrigued by you. Yes, that’s what it was – his half-lidded amber gaze lingered on your face for a moment too long. “You’re very perceptive.”
You cleared your throat. “So, this job of yours… do you like it?”
“I despise it,” He sighed, like he had been waiting his entire life to confess those words. “But, at least, I figure I’m doing something meaningful with my life. You could say I’m a professor on the side.”
I already know that, You thought. Still, he didn’t have to know you knew.
“It’s a demanding job, but I enjoy feeling like I’ve made a difference,” He continued on. “Unfortunately, after the incident, I had to take some time away from the kids to recover.”
“You seem to enjoy teaching,” You answered back, perching your chin on your hand against the back of the couch.
“Sometimes,” He replied. “Other times, the work can be unbearable,” He looked up, then, pretty brown eyes on yours in a way that had your heart skipping more than a couple of beats. You could practically feel the way they burned right through your extroverted facade, saw past the layers of glitter and scanty clothes and deep into the abyss in your chest. See who you really were.
It was him who turned to you, then, asking you, “What about you?”
“Me?” You asked, just to make sure you’d heard him correctly. A client? Caring about your experience at work? That was… dizzyingly rare.
“Yes, you,” He reiterated with the faintest hint of a smile on his lips. “Do you enjoy working here?”
Do I…? You took a moment to consider your answer. You could lie to him – preserve the perfect, sexual image the women in your company were expected to uphold. That was always an option. But, the moment you peered into those all-knowing, tired eyes of his, you found that you didn’t have it in you to lie to him. No, not when he had been so honest with you.
No one’s ever asked me that before.
Before you could catch yourself, the words were already leaving your lips. “Not really, but it pays the bills.”
His eyes softened at that. He didn’t look the least bit upset by your words. If anything, he looked as if he had grown suddenly tender with a sense of understanding. Women didn’t often join your line of work. Not unless they were desperate for money. He seemed mature enough to realize that – to see right past the fantasy you were supposed to paint for him and peer into your eyes like windows into your soul. One look at him, and you knew he didn’t see you as a dancer.
He saw you as a person. As a woman.
You broke the moment with a hum, “Why don’t you keep telling me about your week?” You asked, changing the subject, shifting the conversation back into comfortable territory.
The rest of the half-hour with Nanami flew by like a fleeting dream. He spoke with a quiet ease, his voice low and steady, yet somehow captivating. He complained about the inefficiencies at work—endless meetings that led nowhere, piles of paperwork that seemed to multiply overnight, and colleagues who turned simple tasks into impossible challenges. Yet, when he talked about his students, something in his tone softened, revealing a warmth that made your chest ache. You found yourself asking questions, small ones at first, but each answer drew him out more. The way he spoke—measured, thoughtful, with just the faintest edge of weariness—made you want to listen forever. For someone who seemed so guarded, he had a surprising amount to say, and you realized how much you liked hearing him talk.
You didn’t even notice how much time had passed until a sharp knock interrupted the quiet cocoon of your conversation.
“Donnie? You okay in there? Your 30 was up ten minutes ago.”
It was your coworker.
“I’m good!” You called back, swinging your legs off of Nanami’s lap, turning to him with an apologetic smile. “Sorry, I completely lost track of time.”
“No, it’s alright. I should have been checking my watch,” He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, long fingers combing through the buzzed, blonde strands of his undercut like wind blowing through a field of wheat. Then, after glancing down at his watch, he stood up, cleared his throat, and straightened out his suit jacket. “Thank you for your time.”
You hadn’t moved from your spot on the couch, brows furrowed. “That’s it?”
You had half expected him to extend the time. The conversation was going so well, you had silently found yourself hoping that he would lean over and do something – place his strong hand on your thigh, brush his fingers up your arm, anything. No-touching policy be damned.
You would make an exception for him. Men that fine don’t just grow on trees.
So, trying your best to lure him back in, you kicked one leg over the other, crawling into a sexy pose on the couch. In the most sultry tone you could manage, you breathed, “Is that really all you wanted?”
Please ask me for a lapdance, You found yourself wishing internally.
He paused, looking back at you like he wasn’t the least bit phased by the sexy pose or the outfit or… well, anything. “Yes, why?”
“Nothing, I don’t know, I just… You spent so much money tonight to be here,” You uttered, suddenly bashful when he was peering down at you like that – he was so much taller than you, a height gap that was only emphasized by your seated position on the couch below him. You imagined you would have to stand on the tips of your toes to be at eye level with his neck, maybe his chin. Mindlessly, you caressed the couch. “I figured you would have at least wanted a lap dance, or something.”
“I’m not going to make you do something that neither of us are interested in doing,” He said, sliding his hands down over his slacks to straighten out the creases that had formed in them where your legs had been resting only a moment earlier. “Sex is free. It’s rare to find someone who’s willing to listen.”
You sat there, stunned into silence, still in that sexy pose on the couch, your body frozen in the aftermath of his words. His calm, unbothered demeanor completely threw you off balance, leaving you scrambling to make sense of what had just happened. Men like him didn’t come in here looking for conversation. They came in here for fantasies, for attention, for touch. But not him.
“Thank you for everything,” he said softly, bowing his head slightly in a gesture so gentlemanly it made your stomach twist. Then, without another word, he moved to the door, unlocking it with smooth precision.
You didn’t even have time to gather yourself before he slipped out, leaving you sitting there in your sultry pose, legs crossed, mouth slightly open. The sound of the door closing behind him echoed in the room, final and undeniable.
You blinked, your mind racing, the moment replaying over and over in your head. Did I just get… emotionally blue-balled?
The thought hit you like a ton of bricks, both incredulous and a little amused at how absurdly fitting it was. You flopped back against the couch, your sultry act forgotten, staring up at the ceiling as the jazzy tune from the speakers drifted lazily through the air.
For the first time, a client had left you feeling something you couldn’t quite put into words. You couldn’t decide if you were more annoyed, intrigued, or just completely thrown off your game.
All you knew was that you wanted more.
DARREN: Hey imu.
DARREN: U busy tn?
YOU: I’m working but I get out early. Y.
DARREN: let me pick u up after work
DARREN: maybe i can help you ease some of that stress.
Darren rolled off of you with a huff and an exhale, proud of himself. He wiped the sweat from his forehead with the backside of his elbow, sighing, “That was great. Did you cum?”
“Yeah,” You liked straight through your teeth. Feeling vulnerable, you reached for your shirt and slipped it back on. There was a point in time where the two of you would sleep skin-to-skin after sex. A point in time long ago, of course, but you couldn’t help but reflect. Now, all that was left was a feeling of discomfort where the intimacy used to be.
He flopped down onto the bed next to you, throwing his arm around your waist. Not moving a muscle, you trained your gaze on the ceiling above, hoping that maybe, if you spent enough time counting the dots in his popcorn ceiling, he would see that you did not, in fact, enjoy the experience. You doubted he would do anything to fix it even if he did know.
52, 53, 54.
You had been counting for the past five minutes – thirty seconds after he had grunted the words, “Let’s do missionary” into your ear before flipping you over. Truthfully, you hadn’t wanted to do missionary. That would mean that he could see you and, more importantly, that you had to look at him. So, to pass time and to avoid his gaze, you looked up at the ceiling, allowing yourself to be carried away by the tides of pleasure that his strokes gave you.
55, 56, 57.
He buried his nose in the crook of your neck, inhaling. “You smell like a man’s cologne.”
Your heart skipped a beat. “I work at a strip club.”
With a groan, Darren rolled onto his back, finally putting a comfortable distance between you and him. “Don’t remind me. I’ve been telling you that you’re wasting your talents at a place like that.”
Your jaw tightened. There it was, the same old Darren: judgment wrapped in concern, but laced with the unspoken assumption that he knew what was best for you.
You slipped off the bed, grabbing your phone from the nightstand. The cool floor against your bare feet helped ground you.
Unlocking your phone, you typed a message to Nobara, your roommate:
Can you come get me? I’m at my ex’s.
The response came almost instantly:
Girl, r u srs?
Your fingers hovered over the keyboard before you replied:
I’ll explain later, ik, just pls… I wanna gtfo of here.
Sliding the phone into the pocket of your hoodie, you turned back to Darren. He was staring at the ceiling now, one arm slung across his chest, his fingers idly tapping against his bicep. For a moment, you hesitated. The familiarity of this scene—him in his sweatpants, you in one of his old T-shirts—was a cruel reminder of how things used to be. But you weren’t that girl anymore.
“I think I should go,” you said, breaking the silence.
Darren’s head snapped toward you. “No, wait,” he said, sitting up. His hair was tousled, his expression almost pleading. “Please… I really want you to stay.”
You crossed your arms, keeping your distance. “Why?”
“Because…” He raked a hand through his hair, his voice quieter now. “I don’t know. I thought things were going good between us.”
You blinked, then let out a short, humorless laugh. “Things? Darren, I come here, we have sex, and then I leave. That’s it. That’s all this is.”
“Is that all I am to you?” His voice carried a tinge of desperation, his eyes searching yours.
You tilted your head, studying him. “Or maybe,” you said slowly, “you’re asking if there’s any chance of us getting back together.”
“Yeah.” His voice cracked slightly, and he swallowed hard. “Is there?”
You laughed again, colder this time, shaking your head. “No. There isn’t.”
His jaw clenched, and he looked away for a moment. When he spoke again, his voice was sharp. “That’s not fair. I’ve done so much for you—”
“Done so much?” Your voice rose, and you stepped closer, anger bubbling to the surface. “You don’t give me shit but dick and attitude, Darren.”
He flinched, but you didn’t stop. “You wanna know what’s not fair? The fact that you went and knocked me up and then forced me to have an abortion. Where the hell were you during that, huh? Seeing as you’ve done so much for me?”
He sat frozen, his lips parting as if to speak, but no words came out. His eyes darted toward the floor, guilt pooling in their depths.
“And you wanna know what’s really unfair?” Your voice cracked, but you didn’t care. The words spilled out like a flood you couldn’t contain. “The fact that you fucking cheated on me when I needed you the most. That’s what’s not fair, Darren.”
Darren stared at you, his face contorted with frustration. “That’s not fucking fair,” he snapped, his voice rising.
“Oh, fuck you, Darren,” you shot back, your hands trembling as you pointed at him. “What else do I have to do to show you I’m done? What else do I have to say?”
“I’m trying!” he yelled, stepping closer. “I’ve been fucking trying! But nothing I do is ever good enough for you, is it? You’re so goddamn impossible!”
You laughed bitterly, shaking your head. “You call this trying? You call cheating, lying, and gaslighting me trying?”
“God, you’re such a fucking idiot,” he spat, his words sharp enough to cut. “You act like you’re perfect, like you’ve never made a mistake in your goddamn life.”
“I’m not perfect, Darren,” you hissed, stepping forward, your voice shaking with anger. “But at least I own my shit. At least I don’t treat the people I love like they’re disposable!”
“Oh?” he scoffed, throwing his hands in the air. “You think you’re so much better than me? You’re the one who keeps coming back. So what does that make you, huh?”
The room was thick with tension, and for a moment, neither of you moved. Then he muttered under his breath, “Pathetic.”
Your blood boiled. “What did you just say?”
“You heard me,” he said, his tone dripping with venom.
“Fuck you, Darren!” you screamed, shoving him hard against the chest.
His expression darkened. “You don’t get to do that,” he snarled.
Before you could react, he grabbed your wrist and pushed you away. The force of it sent you stumbling back, and you hit the edge of the dresser, pain shooting up your arm as you fell to the floor.
“Wait, I…” His face shifted, panic flickering in his eyes. He took a step toward you, his hand outstretched.
You scrambled to your feet, holding your arm where it throbbed. “You know what? I’m done.” Your voice was quieter now, but no less firm. “I’m done, Darren.”
“Wait—”
“No!” you shouted, cutting him off. “Go fuck yourself!”
“Please,” he said, his voice cracking. “Don’t let us go. We had something special. You know that.”
You stared at him, disbelief flooding your chest. Then you laughed—a cruel, hollow sound. “If you thought this was anything more than sex, then you’re the fucking idiot.”
He opened his mouth to argue, but you were already grabbing your stiletto boots from the floor.
“We can make it work,” he said desperately, following you as you stormed out of his apartment.
“Make it work?” you echoed, spinning around to face him as you reached his car. “Make it work?” You hefted one of your boots in your hand. “Make this fucking work!”
Before he could respond, you hurled the boot at his car window. The glass shattered on impact, the sound ringing out like a scream in the still night.
The car alarm blared, its shrill wailing cutting through the silence. Darren stood frozen, his mouth agape.
“Shit,” he muttered, rushing toward the car.
You grabbed your other boot and slung it over your shoulder. “Fix that, asshole!” you yelled as you walked away, the sound of the alarm trailing behind you.
“Her!” Darren called after you, but you didn’t turn around.
You kept walking, the cold air biting at your skin, the adrenaline coursing through you keeping you upright. Your arm throbbed where you’d hit it, but you didn’t stop. You didn’t look back.
You made it about halfway home before the exhaustion hit you like a freight train. Your legs wobbled, and you collapsed onto the curb, cradling your arm as the tears you’d been holding back finally spilled over.
Your phone buzzed weakly in your pocket. Nobara’s name lit up the screen.
“Where the hell are you?” she demanded as you answered, her voice sharp but tinged with worry.
You gave her your location, your words slurred with exhaustion and pain. “I can’t— I just can’t walk anymore.”
“Stay put,” she said firmly. “I’m coming to get you.”
By the time her car pulled up, you were slumped against a lamppost, your eyes half-closed. Nobara jumped out, wrapping her jacket around your shoulders as she helped you to your feet.
“What the hell happened?” she asked, her tone softer now.
You shook your head, too drained to explain. “I’m hungry. I’ll tell you later.”
“Let’s stop and get you something to eat,” She didn’t press further, guiding you into the car. As the city lights blurred past, you stared out the window, the events of the night replaying in your mind like a bad dream.
The car was warm, the quiet hum of the heater and the golden glow of streetlights spilling through the windshield easing the tension in your chest. You cradled your injured arm as Nobara maneuvered through the drive-thru, shooting you occasional glances.
“You want the usual?” she asked as she pulled up to the intercom.
“Yeah. Large fries, nuggets, and a Coke,” you murmured, leaning your head back against the seat.
She placed the order, and soon you were pulling into a parking spot under the dim glow of the lot’s overhead lights. The smell of greasy goodness filled the car as she handed you the bag, cracking open a box of nuggets for herself.
“So,” she said, dipping a nugget into a cup of barbecue sauce. “You gonna tell me what the hell happened back there, or do I just have to assume you went full-on ‘Carrie’ at prom?”
You snorted, the first genuine laugh you’d had all night. “Something like that.”
“Well, shit.” She popped the nugget into her mouth. “Guess I missed a show.”
You sighed, staring at the fries in your lap. “It’s over. For real this time.”
“Good,” Nobara said firmly. “That guy was a walking red flag.”
“Yeah, yeah,” you said, rolling your eyes. “Speaking of red flags…” You smirked as an idea popped into your head. “You’ll never believe what happened at work today.”
Her eyes narrowed as she dunked another nugget. “Oh, this should be good. Spill.”
You leaned back, a grin playing on your lips. “I got booked for a private room.”
Nobara froze mid-bite. “I thought you didn’t do those?”
“I don’t,” you said, shrugging. “But they offered me a shit ton of money. Guess who it was.”
Her brows furrowed in confusion. “Who?”
You couldn’t help but draw it out for dramatic effect. “Your teacher.”
Her jaw dropped, and the nugget in her hand fell back into the box. “No way, Bitch.”
You nodded, trying to keep a straight face.
“What did he want? Is he, like, a total pervert or something?”
You laughed, shaking your head. “No, actually. He just wanted someone to talk to.”
Nobara blinked, clearly baffled. “Huh.”
“I know, right?” you said, grabbing a nugget. “Easiest money I’ve ever made.”
“Damn,” she muttered, chewing thoughtfully. “I never took him as the emotional type.”
“Don’t go telling your friends, though,” you warned, wagging a finger at her. “He told me some pretty heavy shit.”
Nobara tensed, her expression flickering with something you didn’t catch as you reached for your Coke. “Like what?”
You laughed, shaking your head. “Like hell if I’d tell you.”
“Oh, come on!” she said, pouting dramatically. “I won’t tell anyone!”
You smirked, leaning back in your seat. “I’m not risking it. Client confidentiality or whatever.”
“Ugh, you’re no fun,” she groaned, but there was a smile tugging at her lips.
You both sat in comfortable silence for a moment, the car filled with the sound of crinkling wrappers and occasional laughter.
“Hey,” Nobara said suddenly, looking at you out of the corner of her eye. “You’re okay, right?”
You hesitated, then nodded. “Yeah. I think I will be.”
She smiled, a small, genuine one. “Good. ‘Cause if you ever go back to that asshole, I’m slashing his tires.”
You laughed, the sound bubbling up before you could stop it. “Deal.”
As you both dug into the last of the nuggets, the weight of the night seemed to lift, replaced by the warmth of greasy food and a friend who always had your back.
