1. Homes built with clay, grass, plastic and glass: How a Caribbean island is shying away from concrete
“[… Clay] traps moisture which then evaporates and pulls heat from the surface as it goes. […] The roof is covered in old recycled advertising banners and piece of a water tank, the other half of which is used to house some of Rahaman-Noronha's fish [… and] multi-coloured glass bottles inset into walls provide an avenue for streams of light and colour.”
2. To Combat Phoenix’s Extreme Heat, a New Program Provides Sustainable Shade
“The neighborhood workshops allow residents to get a shade plan tailored to their community’s needs and identify the locations where officials can plant trees. Meanwhile, the workforce-development side of the program creates the jobs needed to keep the trees alive for generations[….]”
3. Conservation corridors provide hope for Latin America’s felines
“[… S]cience has shown that to maintain healthy populations there needs to be connection between individuals. [… A] protected area that is close to another has more species and more potential for their survival.”
4. Social program cuts tuberculosis cases among Brazil's poorest by more than half

“The decrease [“in TB cases and deaths”] was over 50% in extremely poor people and more than 60% among the Indigenous populations. […] "We know that the program improves access to food [… and healthcare…] and strengthens people's immune defenses as a result.””
5. Geothermal has vast potential to meet the world’s power needs
“New geothermal systems could technically provide as much as 600 terawatts of carbon-free power capacity by 2050[…. C]ountries could cost-effectively deploy over 800 GW of geothermal power capacity using technology that’s in development today[….]”
6. New D.C. Catholic archbishop is pro-LGBTQ+ and anti-Trump
“In 2018, he objected to the blaming of gay priests for the clergy sexual abuse crisis, “saying that such abuse was a matter of power, not sexual orientation[….]” “We must disrupt those who portray refugees as enemies [… and] seek to rob our medical care, especially from the poor.””
7. Chesapeake Bay Will Gain New Wildlife Refuge
“The Chesapeake Bay area will have a new wildlife refuge for the first time in a quarter century. […] “This new refuge offers an opportunity to halt and even reverse biodiversity loss in this important place, and in a way that fully integrates and respects the leadership and rights of Indigenous peoples and local communities.””
8. Inside Svalbard seed vault’s critical mission to stop our favourite fruit and veg from going extinct
“[… T]he world’s largest secure seed storage […] sits proudly in a massive former coal mine[….] Right now, there are over 1,331,458 samples of 6,297 crop species. […] “During 2024, 61 seed genebanks deposited 64,331 seed samples, including 21 from institutes that deposited seeds for the first time this year[….]””
9. Medical debt will be erased from credit reports for all Americans under new federal rule
“The rule will affect more than 15 million Americans, raising their credit scores by an estimated average of 20 points. [… S]tates and localities have already utilized American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds to support the elimination of over $1 billion in medical debt for more than 700,000 Americans[….]”
10. 'Forgotten' water harvesting system transforms 'barren wasteland' into thriving farmland
“"The process started with the community-based participatory planning[….]” 10% to 15% of the water will actually soak into the ground to replenish the water table, creating a more sustainable agricultural process.”

Celestia, is it possible they had a security system in case the cabin was broken into? Like, a spell to destroy the entire cabin and everything in it? What if you had triggered it and it's getting ready to activate?
Celestia: ugh i'm not a Newbie to magic! Stop lecturing me like I was born yesterday! There wasn't and ISN'T a security system, if there was I would've sensed it! I'm nearly 10,000 years old! I know what i'm doing. There's no magical booby trap, if there was, I could easily disarm it. Its an old cabin in the woods, and it was BOARDED UP. I don't care if it's some poacher's home, the Phoenixes in this forest are at risk! Including, MY PHILOMENA WHO WAS TRAPPED IN THE DAMN CABIN ☀️

(I command you to look at this art and it's blog now! Everything else is secondary)
Um right, my team basically bullied me into getting a social media app and engaging online. Feels like a security risk to me but Captain found out and is now forcing me to do so. Well anyways I'm Lazarus, technically I'm a Lieutenant but I was employed under the rank of Artificer and am managing the sorry state of the TF141 engineering division. Also I see familiar people but they seem different, strange.
(Boundaries and extra details in read more but this account is MDNI)
Details and military file
(sfw account is @artificer-lazarus . Roach account is @ask-roachwithaflame)
(Typically goes by 🐺 anon)
(Hey I'm Silver nice to meet ya, I'm part of what's known as the Core system. My primary pronouns are He/They, but also consider it Any/All because I kind of really find unique pronouns fun as hell. This account is the MDNI account, if you're a minor I'm redirecting you to my @artificer-lazarus blog.)
I have little experience with these types of blogs, and I have an irregular schedule so don't be too upset if I miss you or I respond late. Please be patient with me, though otherwise I hope we have fun
Boundaries:
- Flirting is allowed, but I reserve the right to simply not respond or back out of I'm feeling uncomfortable
- Similar for NSFW content though I'm also not responding if you're sending an NSFW anon ask (exceptions made if I know your blog) or don't say explicitly on your blog somewhere you're 18+ of age or another MDNI account.
- An update to this, while I don't mind erp personally, I'm not 100% comfortable having it be fully explicit in my blog. So at some point I may ask to take it to the void and leave whatever is going on to people's imaginations. If you really need to get it out DMs are perfectly okay, just want this blog to stay porn with plot rated M if you will.
- If you're going to act like an ass you are going to get blocked, end of story. Doesn't exclude me blocking you if you're acting like an ass to someone else

June 2031 - December 5, 2060
Previous Post
DIE MASTER LIST OR #LYONDIE
DIVIDERS
CW: mentions of a stalker, peaceful end of life. MDNI. 2K Words.
In June of the same year that I made my decision to remain single, I decided to move with the kids to the Seattle, Washington area.
At first, I worried that Julius and Raphael wouldn’t want to move that far but when the topic came up, they both agreed to look for homes in the neighborhood near my new property.
Since separating from Raphael, I began to work more and was able to save and invest a lot of money. When I decided to move, I put my house in Phoenix on the market.
It was sold quickly, and I received a nice payout from the sale.
All of this allowed me to afford a roughly $2 million property with nearly 2 acres of land and a beautiful modern farmhouse. It overlooked the sea, and there were rolling hills.
About an acre away was the nearest home, and every subsequent one a similar distance. They all existed within a gated community and the nearby spaces were calm, family friendly environments.
Raphael and Julius both bought homes in this community, though they went with smaller homes.
I saw my property as a family investment, something that would payout a fair amount to my children after I’ve passed, so I was willing to make the large investment.
Through my life, my career opportunities only began to pay me more money, until I was 40 and ready for retirement.
At that point, even though I had a comfortable amount of money to live off forever, I still chose to pick up a part time remote job that required my skills. I did that for five years, before deciding to stop working altogether…
Then deciding I wasn’t made for being inactive, so I started making flower arrangements for weddings.
I had a lot of fun doing this, and solely advertised to richer people within our community so I was able to secure immediate payment for all my work.
Of course, through all of these years Raphael and Julius have helped provide financially for their children. They get all of the kids gifts for events, they get food for all of the kids if they want to eat out.
Monthly, they each sent $800 per child, with Raphael and Julius splitting an additional $800 every month for Theo.
I didn’t ask for this payment for Theo, but from the first payments they started sending for their kids, they included that additional amount for him.
For years, I tried to serve Harvey for child support for Theo. Eventually, I was able to and he started making payments of a grand monthly. It was fine for several months, until he stopped paying.
When he did, I continued pursuing him through the court system. Years of abuse from this man and I had taken care of Theo alone most of his life, I wanted him to be responsible for paying for his son.
After what I felt was a grueling process, the government finally began to take his child support payments directly out of his checks.
I don’t know how much more shit he got in trouble for, but he was arrested a couple different times after that for domestic violence on his several new wives.
What about my kids though? How have their lives evolved?
Theo got married to his high school sweetheart when he was 25. He is 37 now and they have three kids together. They have twin daughters named Dove and Joni, and a younger son named Rudy. They’re the happiest little family.
Leon eloped with a 27 year old woman when he was 19 and in college. They hadn’t dated even a few days before they’re elopement and she was quickly pregnant after.
Well, she was abusive and ultimately Leon got out of the relationship when he discovered the baby wasn’t his. He married a 26 year old man when he was 28, and by the time he was 30 they hired surrogates and had their babies.
Leon’s son is named Luke, his daughter is named Lola. They’re sweet, and Leon is 35 now.
My chaotic Eden.
Today, she’s 33. She almost dropped out of high school, multiple times. Mostly for poor, impulsive behavior that she said only happened because other people were talking about her so “of course I have to respond.”
That energy carried into her 20s, by 23 she was pregnant and engaged to her daughter’s father, but the man started mistreating her. I pulled her out of that situation so fast, and she was able to raise her daughter peacefully.
Her first daughter’s name is Emma.
At 30, Eden married her long term partner, a man she met when Emma was young, and their ceremony was beautiful. By 31, she was pregnant with his baby. Their daughter Eris was born near Eden’s 32 birthday.
Now for baby Esme!
She’s 30 now, has a son named Jack Dean that she had when she was 19. She’s in a happy relationship with a woman, and the two got married when Esme was 22.
Their ceremony was held on a beach abroad because Esme’s wife is an older rich heiress. They seem really happy with each other and they’re fantastic parents to Jack.
As for me, I was right to choose to stay single.
I never stopped loving Julius or Raphael, and over the years I would find myself still spending so much time with each of them. They were amazing fathers and passionate lovers.
I was glad I had them in my life, and didn’t take them for granted.
My sex life was passionate and constant my entire life, even into my old age. While I had consistent lovers in Julius and Raphael, that isn’t to say that each of us didn’t try to have independent lives.
Julius tried dating, but he could never bring himself to ask a girl to be his girlfriend. One girl stuck around in his limbo for a year, sleeping with him every so often but ultimately… He let her down quite harshly.
Raphael was slightly more successful with dating. He had a girl he started liking, he decided to date her and was with her for about five years. She wanted him to propose and marry her, giving him an ultimatum.
Raphael told her he would never divorce me, and kicked her out of his house.
They’re both not the best of men to their lovers, but they always said I had to be their priority because I mothered their children.
As for me, I had a couple dates and hit it off with one guy. I fell in love with him after a while. He told me he was alright with my situation, but he was lying.
He moved in after two years of us dating and was aware that I still had relationships with Julius and Raphael, but when he saw Julius or Raphael being affectionate to me, he would lash out.
I forgave him both times that he lashed out, but he had done it in front of my children and that was quite frustrating. I told him if he reacted like that in front of my kids again, we would be breaking up.
Sure enough, Raphael came over to see his kids. He greeted all the kids, then came and gave me a kiss, leading to the man starting a fight with Raphael in front of my kids.
Raphael actually showed a lot of restraint that day by pulling away when I asked him to. I was proud of him for not escalating a fight.
Regardless, I broke up with the other man in the immediate aftermath. I got him moved out the same day, and only saw him in passing… in other words, he stalked me for years and it was complicated but he died young.
Suspicious circumstances, you know, but this isn’t his story. Maybe another day I’ll tell you all about him.
On the morning of December 5, 2060, I felt a pain in my chest. I kept quiet about it all day, but spent the day being visited by all my children and grandchildren.
I played with my youngest grandkids in the front lawn of my property, spoke to my children standing by the barbecue, then went to the front porch and sat down. At that point, the sun was an hour from disappearing.
The sky was changing colors brilliantly over my home, just as Julius pulled up in his car. He parked in the driveway but joined me on the front porch, his older face staring at mine. He had a frown, “you feeling alright?”
“Of course. Look at everyone,” I smiled as I looked out at my family, and noticed that Raphael was arriving as well.
Julius sat beside me, wrapping an arm over my shoulder and pulling me in for a kiss, “everyone looks great but you, something’s wrong, Dolores. Theo called me and Raphael, he said he was worried.”
“You’re all so silly,” I shook my head, returning J’s kiss sweetly. I looked up as I heard Raphael coming up the steps.
Raphael sat on the other side of me, holding my chin and lowering his face to look in my eyes, “you okay, Lola?”
“I was just playing with the kids, I don’t know why Theo’s saying he’s worried,” I replied, maybe a little too defensively.
Julius and Raphael looked between themselves, then back at me, with my husband continuing, “I’m assuming your first born is a trustworthy source for his mother’s health.”
“You annoy me,” I scrunched up my nose defensively at Raphael, then turned to Julius.
In both of them, I still saw their souls. The men I loved, the men I dreamed I’d have forever. I still loved each of them, and so I kissed Julius.
After, I turned to kiss Raphael.
Their lips reminded me of my life. I knew I was at the end, and I was so happy to go.
“I love you, Dolores,” Raphael and Julius said as soon as I stood up off the seat.
I walked to the edge of the porch, sat down on the top steps and stared out at my children and grandchildren. I felt as if I was home in Cuba, at my grandparent’s house in town.
Back home, I had a view of familiar faces and friends when I would sit on the top step of their porch. The street was home, the people were family.
Now, at the end of my life I am in Seattle, WA. So, far from home — will I go back there one day? Maybe not, but, I’m okay with that.
This view, as the sky burns red and orange, the green hills, the Pacific ocean, my adult children laughing in life, my young grand kids walking into a new world of freedom.
The voices of the men I loved.
I watched the sun disappear to the other hemisphere, I felt my body sink, then…
Some stars, so faint, but beautiful twinkling oddities in the enormity of space.
I was one of them, a star; I was there floating among them once, but I came to Earth to learn to love.
It was so worth it.
I want to be stuck on this little planet forever, staring at my ancestors in the sky with jealousy while the carnal pleasures are all mine to enjoy.
My life, my role as a God on Earth, was to make the Gods in Space as jealous of us as we are of them.
I went to bed shortly after with the help of Raphael and Julius. They tucked me in, but I told them, “if we were all Gods, I’m glad I got to enjoy my life with both of you.”
I came into this world in the year of a metal dragon, I left this world 60 years later in another metal dragon year.
Before I fell asleep to never wake again, I watched my life and all my memories dance out of reach. Then, the darkness…
And it was all over for me after a life of dreams, ink, and embers.
The End.
I literally can't believe I'm already at the end of DIE! I started this tumblr to only post DIE, and this was at a time when all I had for it was one document with 3k+ words.

This is literally just a vent thing I wrote about my cat and it made me feel loads better. This has absolutely nothing to do with Final Fantasy at all. I just wanted this in my masterlist to come back to because it’s the most important thing I’ve typed out and I look forward to seeing all of this in some years along with any other bullshit I’ve typed.
All of this was written about my dear kitty Rinoa aka Fluffy cause I didn’t feel like calling her Rinoa all of the time. What a treat when Tifa’s cat was named Fluffy.
Other aliases. Fluffals, Fluff a Wuff, Fluffaluffagus, Big Fluff, Fluff(s), or The Fluffs.
Farlo (only you and I understand this one bbg)
Day one with you was wild in itself wasn’t it? But it let me know that you were the cat for me. That two hour drive to pick up my scraggly gray baby, my mom’s car breaking down an hour into the trip home due to her stupid security system. It was freezing outside, we had no heat in that shitbox, the rain was fierce and the roads were freezing over.
After letting you out of the cage to stretch your little legs you came straight to my lap, rubbing against me and purring upon being pet. You practically didn’t even look my mother’s way. Your attention was solely on me and you seemed to understand we weren’t going to be anywhere comfortable anytime soon as you loafed in my lap. It was the first time I ever felt the warmth of a cat and fuck did you make the situation so much better. It was extremely comforting coming from a cat that absolutely despises car rides, all of your booming meows came to a halt and we just stared at each other.
God you were so food aggressive back then. My first time feeding you, I tried to get you to slow down. You didn’t like that at all. I didn’t even know cats could growl and I was so fuckin offended. It was hilarious but as time went on you realized you didn’t have to be territorial about food, you knew you would always be fed with me.
The first time I fed you a can of tuna turned out to be a mistake. Fuckin hell because the next time you heard me pop open a can, your big ass tried scaling up my leg as though you were a kitten. The only thing you did was sink your claws into my leg as you kept trying to climb up me, your claws sinking in so deep it left large open gashes. Blood was everywhere, it was kind of funny. I was also a little mad, but I made sure you got your tuna because you were such a greedy little thing and I understood why you acted like that from your previous home.
As a kid I gave you nerves of steel. You couldn’t stand my loud noises at first, to this day if I’m too loud you’ll get up and find another part of the apartment to hang out at until I shut up. You come back every single time though.
What even was that period of time in which I would catch you in the tower or sleeping on the couch, wake you up by picking you up and whispering to you in a demonic voice that I would “eat your wiskas (whiskers) and take your soul” and baby you would just purr even though I was being so weird and you’ve always hated being picked up.
Or the times I’d run up to you screaming the lyrics of The Phoenix by Fall Out Boy. Even better, when Hail to the King by Avenged Sevenfold dropped and I had that stupid golden chalice. As they sang “Hail to the King” I’d get down on one knee, bow, and hold the cup out to you as though you’d fill it with the finest wine while screaming the lyrics.
Christ, that time my dad thought it would be funny to give you a wig. I did not approve. I got in trouble as I told him to “get that shit off of my cat.” Fluff didn’t approve either and the look on her face made it painfully obvious.
I never realized just how loud a cat could be. I’ve dealt with your ungodly almost monthly screeching for years because heart complications prevented you from getting fixed. It’s not just this that made me realize cats are loud as fuck. You can see the bottom of the food bowl at all? Water level isn’t where you want it? Here you come with your meows. Furious fucking meows they are, yes.
One thing about you. You’re going to get your way. Even if you have to claw my hand to get pets. The way you’d bite my phone like it was trying to attack you. Adorable. You just want my attention on you, my lovely girl, you always get it. I love the moment I set my eyes on you, you're making biscuits like the magnificent soul you are.
2013-2017
Boy. Were you my damn salvation. Nothing else kept me together during this period of time but you. You were always my reason to keep pushing. Because if I didn’t have shit else in life, I at least had my cat.
We were so young, breaking into abandoned homes for shelter since we didn’t have our own. It was kind of funny, toting the litter box with me from place to place. I refused to live with others since they didn’t like cats or wouldn’t allow me to bring you along. We are a package deal. No Fluffy? No me. No me? No Fluffy. If you don’t like cats? We aren’t coming. Why should we? Maybe to extent at that time, it was unfair to keep you when we didn’t even have a roof over our heads. But nobody would take you in and I couldn’t dare handle the possibility of losing you entirely. To another owner who doesn’t understand your boundaries? To one who doesn’t understand you’re a very picky soul and you’re not a kitty to be fooled around with or cornered. I’ve seen many of my family be mean towards you when you’ve done nothing wrong. It made me fear heavily to let you go. That no matter what, being by my side would be best for you. So I did not. And you still acted like the happiest girl in the world no matter the circumstances. Maybe it was because you still had me? I’m unsure, I also understand you wouldn’t have quite known what was going on at the time anyways. But I kind of beg to differ. You always know what’s up. Always have. That’s why you’ve always been my best girl.
Those cold nights where you tucked under my bundle of blankets. Keeping yourself warm while keeping me warm as well. Anything you needed, I made sure you had it before me. You taught me that sacrifices were necessary at a very young age. Feeding you instead of myself. It’s why you’re the chicken thief now! Part of the reason you’re so food motivated. One thought I had spoiled you when reality was, I just did what I had to do to get us through a shit period of time.
Remember your favorite thing would be when I’d bring chicken items home from school? Pestering the lunch ladies about the salt content since I was worried about your health. I wish I had the balls to go into stores and steal food for you during this time. Lord knows I was heavily considering it but I’ve always been too scared to do shit like that.
Ugh. The meals I’d cook you? You were destined to be spoiled even though you’re spoiled due to poverty first before I was able to work and take care of you fully myself. I’m ever grateful for your patience and love. You’ve taught me so much, more than any human has been able to teach me. (Sorry mom, this goes for you too.) No matter how ass this time was for me, I always had you to care for. To keep my mind off of the world and how shitty everything was.
Then we moved in with my grandma. Terrible. 0/45. At least I had started working immediately and was able to care for you like I have never been able to before. Now you’re just MEGA SPOILED!!!! We made her so mad the day we left. Pulled up with a U-Haul and packed our shit without notice(which she had no clue how I got the truck, I did not have a license then lmao). Fluffy and I said fuck you as we skirted out of the driveway and we haven’t been back since! Certainly not you, my Fluff, she talked down to you so much, said many nasty things about a cat who sleeps 80% of the day away.
When we broke off from the family and decided to live by our standards instead of theirs, everything changed. For the fucking better. We never saw another night without food or questioning how your next meal was going to get to you. I have your fucking back. Always. You have mine as well, you never missed a beat.
2018-Present
We have been in a good spot ever since. Literally living our best lives. Fluffy gets everything she wants, everything I can think of to get her, she fucking gets cause that’s baby fucking girl.
Remember when you attacked my friends when we were play fighting? Either we spooked you really bad by doing too much, or you were protecting me (the option I like the most). You tore those two the fuck up and wouldn’t stop attacking them, but not once did you turn on me. Those poor little souls getting torn to shreds by you and I was doing my best to get you away from them. Luckily for me (really for them) they took the claws like a champ and didn’t even try fighting you, to my surprise.
Or how about that time when I had a roommate and I swore up and down she let you out of the apartment and I lost my shit because I couldn’t find you anywhere? Just to slump against the wall in defeat after coming the complex and nearby areas for you. Then I heard it. Bitch was in the kitchen cabinet hiding behind the cereal! I cried so hard that day at the thought of something happening to you. I was so devastated since you’ve never tried running off before. So why now?
Nope, the greedy little thing was hiding in the kitchen. Which…knowing you Fluffals, I should’ve known you were in there. When are you not gravitating towards the kitchen? I just never caught her climbing on counters so much, so to expect her to be inside of the cabinets? ABOVE THE SINK?? I was beyond baffled. I cried tears of joy, called my roommate back and apologized profusely. She was just as happy as I was that I found you. Fluffy has a way of worming her way into the hearts of many.
I know you can never forget when I got to the point of fostering cats. You hated it at first. But the way you took kittens under your wing instantly and taught them how to bullshit was so beautiful. Watching you teach kittens how to menace was one of my favorite things in the world. Very quickly you didn’t mind these guys I’d pick up and take care of until I found their forever homes. Eventually you didn’t even blink an eye as I ushered in another cat, only keeping them away from you in order to figure out their temperaments and health problems before letting them mingle with you.
I love watching you set boundaries. Though it’s been a bit since I’ve really fostered any cats besides picking them up off of the streets and taking them to other foster parents. That tiny orange guy I had to help escape your headlock was iconic. In your defense Fluffy, he wouldn’t stop trying to play with you while you slept. You’ve never been one to have your sleep interrupted. We’re one in the same with that one huh? We got that kitten out of there instantly, I never saw you spaz like that on a poor little kitty. But hey, you were entirely fed the fuck up!
Now you’ve got a brother and sister. I was surprised that you actually loved them as much as you do. Aerith and Roach. The ultimate duo that I kept swearing up and down I wasn’t going to keep, then I kind of…stopped looking for a home for them since I had them so so long. I shrugged and let them know this was their forever home. I’m pretty sure those two knew that this was their place anyway. You accepted them, they love you so much, and I of course got extremely attached to these two.
You raised Aerith to be a mini-Fluffy. She’s just as stuck up as you, Aerith just lacks the food motivated fiendish ways. I guess that’s because I’ve always been able to properly feed them, seeing as the circumstances weren’t the same as when I was a kid.
Roach though? You could’ve taken him under your wing a bit more and helped me out. He’s the scariest little cat on the planet. Remember when you or I would so much as look at him and he’d scurry under the bed? Or when I’d turn in the lights and he’d scatter like an actual Roach (hence the name Roach). No amounts of socialization was working and he hates strangers still. Aerith and Fluffy will walk up to people like “Who are you and why are you in my space without giving me pets or something?”
Roach though? He’ll claw at the closest door when a new comer is around until I just let him in. Hiding in the cat towers, under the bed, or the couch is not enough for that boy. He’s gotta hightail it out of there.
You know what Fluffs? You’ve really gotten me through this life. I knew there would be a time that it would be my turn to take care of you as you have taken care of me. You need me now more than ever. It’s not fair to cry in your face when the end really isn’t here nor do we know for sure if it’s going to be close. There’s still a chance to get rid of this tumor and bring you back to full health. You’re a bit old. Yes. That doesn’t count you out. You’ve been a fighter your entire life and you’re still very much yourself. You haven’t skipped a beat a single day. Still screaming at me over the empty space in the food bowl or trying to open the toilet because for some reason it catches your attention more than the bowl of FRESH water. You psychopath.
You’ve spent years of hard work to keep a smile on my face. I have to be strong enough to keep the smile you’ve given me and serve it back to you tenfold. You will get through this. We will get through this. I love you man. I love you so much. I’d burn this entire world to keep you by my side.
I love you, my dear Fluff.

PHOENIX - A teenage boy shot a man trying to break into his home near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road Friday night, police said.
Officers were called to the neighborhood at around 10 p.m. on Sept. 8, according to police.
Here are the details on what happened:
Who's the suspect?
Court documents identified the suspect as Juan Saavedra.
Saavedra, according to court documents, turned 36 on Sept. 11, three days following his arrest. Court documents listed a number of prior arrests and convictions for Saavedra, but those entries were redacted from the court documents we received.
In court documents, Saavedra is listed as a transient.
What led to Saavedra's arrest?
Court documents state that Phoenix Police officers responded to a residential neighborhood near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road for a burglary in progress call at around 10:05 p.m.
When officers arrived at around 10:13 p.m., they contacted a man in front of a home, later identified as Saavedra.
"As officers approached this male, they observed him to be suffering from apparent gun shot wounds to his abdomen and right arm," read a portion of the court documents.
Eventually, officers made contact with an alleged victim, who told officers she had received a motion notification on her security system, and then saw Saavedra on her security camera walking around the front of her home.
"The victim stated she exited her residence and gave the defendant several commands to leave the area or he was at risk of being shot, in an attempt to scare him away from the residences front yard area," read a portion of the court documents. "The victim stated she then ran back inside of her residence, instructing one of her children to close and lock the door behind her. The victim stated as she entered her residence, she began calling police and went to retrieve a firearm in order to protect herself, her husband and five children located inside."
The alleged victim, according to police, later heard Saavedra bang on a carport door. After she told her children to move away from the area and hide as far away as possible, she heard the glass windowpane of the carport door shatter, and Saavedra's hand reaching inside.
"The victim stated as she stood with the firearm, she observed the defendants hand came through the now open and broken window, and reached for the doors doorknob in an attempt to open the door,' read a portion of the statement. "The victim stated at this point her 13-year-old son, seeing that the defendant was attempting to make entry and his mother was not firing the firearm, in fear for the safety of himself and family, took the firearm from his mother and fired the firearm towards the defendant, striking him."
Saavedra, according to investigators, was later taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, and was eventually released into police custody.
What led to the incident taking place?
In an interview that was done after Saavedra was read his Miranda rights, court documents state that detectives asked Saavedra on why he tried to get into the home. Saavedra replied that he had been smoking methamphetamine with a friend for about 48 hours prior to the incident, and that he was trying to locate his friend in various residential yards.
"The defendant stated upon approaching the victim's residence he heard her inform him to leave the area. The defendant stated he then approached the carport door of the residence, and believed it to be his son, despite knowing the residence did not belong to him," read a portion of the court documents.
When asked by police if he knew his actions could scare the people inside the home, court documents say Saavedra replied, "Yeah, I mean I was high obviously."
So, what happens to the suspect now?
According to court documents, Saavedra is accused of 2nd Degree Burglary, which is a felony.
Meanwhile, a judge has set a $50,000 cash-only bond for Saavedra, according to documents.
Neighbors said they heard several gunshots. Some ducked down on the floor.
They say it’s troubling to hear police say this suspect was seemingly attempting to break into their neighbor's home randomly.
"I’m happy that they had something to defend themselves," a neighbor said. "I would have, we would have done the same thing, so I feel good for them."

The Uncanny X-Men #173 - To Have and Have Not
Wolverine and Rogue start questioning members of the Japanese criminal underworld, looking for the Silver Samurai. We learn that the rest of the X-Men, except Storm, were poisoned by the tea Viper gave them last issue. They're all in the hospital with Mariko, who survived the explosion at the dock, also last issue.
Wolverine and Rogue follow a lead to the estate of a man named Nabatone, the man who set up the meeting between Mariko and the Silver Samurai, also also last issue (seems like you really need to just read that one!). The estate is heavily guarded, but Rogue can fly, so they bypass the guards and land in a courtyard of the house. Rogue accidentally trips a security system that shoots a huge laser blast at her, but Wolverine tackles her, saving her. Rogue lands on top of Wolverine and as a way to thank him for saving her, Rogue tries to kiss him. But Wolverine stops her because Rogue's power is that she absorbs the abilities, memories, and emotions of anyone she touches. Did Rogue intend to do that to Wolverine like she did with Carol Danvers? Or was she genuinely wanting to kiss Wolverine in that moment?
But Rogue's intent doesn't matter - they find Nabatone, and he's already dead. Has been for quite a while. Rogue asks how it's possible he's been dead so long when he just arranged the meeting with Mariko and the Silver Samurai. Wolverine says that that Nabatone must have been an imposter... They return to the hospital.
Elsewhere, Yukio leads Storm to a friend's home for help. But Yukio's friend refuses to let them inside because they are being followed by the Silver Samurai and it would be too dangerous. Soon after, a group of presumably the Silver Samurai's henchmen surround Yukio and Storm. The women quickly overpower the men and Storm lets out a celebratory bolt of lightning. She's enjoying Yukio's whole outlook on fighting, but having fun at the same time. Storm's feeling good.
The Silver Samurai and Viper show up at the hospital. Rogue takes on Viper, and Wolverine fights with the Silver Samurai. Wolverine's beating the Silver Samurai pretty handily, but then Viper enters and points a gun at Mariko. Wolverine stops fighting. The Silver Samurai says he has failed Viper, who he calls his "mistress." Rogue flies in suddenly, and pushes Wolverine and Mariko out of Viper's line of fire. Viper shoots Rogue. It's a powerful blaster, but Rogue is somewhat invulnerable to it. The gun explodes because of how powerful the blast is. Wolverine rushes back to Rogue, who can barely speak. Viper teleports away. Wolverine knows Rogue is severely injured. She needs to absorb his healing ability. He kisses her. (I literally got chills at this.)
One week later.
Mariko visits the "ancestral seat" of the Yashida family. She's feeling too excited to sleep, given that her wedding to Logan is tomorrow. A man approaches her and wishes her and Logan well. Mariko is startled by the man, but then doesn't seem to remember him when he turns and leaves. She believes she was talking to herself.
Next day.
Logan's wedding! Charles, Lilandra, Lorna, Alex, Scott and Madelyne all show up for the big day. Everyone is shocked to meet Madelyne because of her resemblance to Jean. Lilandra is so startled she wants to fight Madelyne, believing the Phoenix has returned. Scott even thinks to himself that Madelyne may be the reincarnation of Jean. Charles calms everyone down. Until Storm arrives with a new mohawk haircut. Everyone is shocked by the change. Then Kitty asks Madelyne to hold Lockheed so she can do her maid of honor duties. Madelyne asks Scott who all these people are and what he's gotten her into (Lockheed is a dragon and not a cat like she expected). But then, Mariko stops everything. She says there will be no wedding. Logan is "not worthy." Mariko turns and leaves. A tear falls from Logan's eye. Waiting for Mariko outside is the man that wished her well last night...

When I was in Phoenix for a conference with my partner, I naively thought that using public transport would be a great way to save some money and get around over using Uber. $8 a day (for two people)?instead of $60? Sign me up.
And then my partner couldn’t get home for two hours. She, a trans woman, stood at her bus stop alone at night in the middle of downtown Phoenix for two hours (9:30pm-11:30pm), and her bus never came. The bus tracker would say it was on the way but never showed. Her phone was almost dead, neither of us had ever been to Phoenix before, and we had no friends in the city.
Meanwhile, I was frantically trying to find a way to her. The bus she had used to GET to downtown had seemed reliable so I tried using that one. And then another one because I missed that one. And then that one again because the other didn’t show. So, there I was running around by myself at night for two hours around a part of town that our hotel (a place that would probably want us to feel safe and enjoy our stay) had told us not to walk around at night.
I wanted to send an Uber to her but had no idea where she actually was at the conference and knew her phone would die before the Uber would get there, meaning I wouldn’t be able to communicate to the driver where exactly she was relative to them. She couldn’t order the Uber herself because she didn’t have it downloaded and again, almost dead phone.
Eventually I told her to go back into the building (even though security was trying to get people out), I Ubered over, asked the driver if he could wait, found her in the building, and brought her back to our hotel.
Two hours in the dark in an unknown city, each of us alone, where I was genuinely scared for her safety and her for mine, because the public transit system did not appear.
The reason many people don’t take American public transit is how unreliable they are, and this stems from the issues laid out by @pibblepunk. They are underfunded and poorly implemented, and nobody cares because the population most often affected is the population the city would rather ignore or actively work against anyways.

American urban planning!

Phoenix Evictions Hit 12,000 in April

Key Takeaways Phoenix experienced an unprecedented 12,000 evictions in April, setting a new record for the city. The surge in eviction filings is placing immense strain on Maricopa County’s court system and contributing to rising homelessness. Housing market instability is growing, prompting urgent concern among industry leaders and investors about the city’s rental future. Eviction Surge Puts Phoenix’s Housing Security to the Test Phoenix stands on the edge of calamity. In April, a staggering 12,000 households were ripped from their homes, shattering previous eviction records. Maricopa County’s courts grind under an avalanche of filings, echoing panic across the real estate sector. Historic highs slam vulnerable tenants, fuel homelessness, and unravel housing stability. Investors and industry leaders confront an urgent warning—this crisis deepens relentlessly. The future of rental markets now hangs by a thread. Eviction Tsunami Overwhelms Phoenix Renters A storm has struck Phoenix. The city faces an eviction crisis of monumental scale, as April 2025 saw nearly 12,000 households forced out. Maricopa County stands at the epicenter, staggering under the weight of 87,197 eviction cases in 2024—its highest toll since 2005. Filings have climbed 27% beyond the shadows of pre-pandemic times, their unrelenting surge unchallenged after pandemic protections fell away. December brought a historic blow, surpassing 7,000 new filings, providing no shelter from winter’s harshest month. This is not a trickle. It is a flood. Mounting pressures rip through Phoenix’s foundation. Eviction legislation, strained and undermined by outdated statutes, has proven toothless against the torrent of filings. Tenant screening, ever more rigorous, now blocks thousands in the aftermath. Tenants entangled in the legal web face insurmountable odds. The process moves with ruthless speed, often denying residents a true chance at defense. Ruthless eviction laws and harsh tenant screenings shred any hope, leaving Phoenix renters defenseless against an unforgiving legal machine. The county courtrooms groan under record caseloads—overwhelmed, overrun, insufficiently resourced. Legal aid, once a lifeline for vulnerable renters, now buckles under insurmountable demand. The Eviction Lab's real-time Eviction Tracking System confirms the city's filings have soared well above pre-pandemic averages, keeping Phoenix under a constant lens of national housing insecurity. For every ten people who cling to housing, nineteen fall into homelessness. The correlation rings with chilling clarity; every eviction is a potential sentence to life on the streets. Substantial monetary judgments, averaging between $4,000 and $5,000, crush families as they leave their homes. With eviction marks indelibly placed on their records, displaced renters are locked out of new opportunities. Tenant screening mechanisms across Phoenix repeatedly flag these individuals, sealing their fate. The cycle of housing denial becomes nearly unbreakable, as doors close and hope slips further with every failed application. Homeless shelters groan beneath sudden, unending exodus. Services intended for the weakest now drown in the tide, providers issuing desperate calls for relief as funding frays and cracks. Monetary judgments follow the dispossessed, shadowing their every move, obstructing attempts at new beginnings. Phoenix’s social fabric frays; each eviction brings more chaos, more damage to lives and futures. Legal fees mount, credit ratings shatter, and the prospects for future housing grow dim. Prevention—long championed as cost-effective—now stands neglected, underfunded, and ignored at grim peril. The city’s housing market adds yet another layer of horror. Median rents surge without restraint. Affordable units vanish as competitive shortages inflame the crisis. Lease-up campaigns like those on the DAHLIA portal struggle to stem the tide, finding little success amid roaring demand. Construction
delays stall any hope of replenishing lost supply, while the state’s refusal to implement rent control leaves tenants defenseless. No scale of resource, not from nonprofits, not from the government, has proven sufficient. Rising eviction numbers now spell a wave of homelessness, legal destruction, and social collapse. The data reveals one truth: Phoenix faces a relentless, gathering storm with no clear end in sight. Assessment A relentless wave of evictions is now sweeping through Phoenix, revealing some serious cracks in the already fragile housing market. The courts are struggling to keep up with an overwhelming number of cases, while outdated laws and skyrocketing demand only add fuel to the fire. Investors are left facing an unpredictable future as homelessness rises, neighborhoods fray, and social support systems feel the pressure. With thousands more families at risk of losing their homes, Phoenix finds itself at a pivotal moment—one that could impact rental security across the country. It's clear that this crisis won't resolve itself, and it affects everyone, from renters and landlords to entire communities. If we want to prevent a larger disaster, it's time to push for policy updates, stronger community support, and new solutions to keep families housed. Let's come together and demand meaningful action before Phoenix's eviction crisis becomes a nationwide emergency.
