hi back on my cursor bullshit again but this time im doing actual original art for these instead of pmd edits! i'll do pmd edits again whenever i feel like it, these were made cuz i saw a bunch of suuuper cute chunky lil nostalgic cursors and wanted to make animated ones for myself too!

the zine’s officially out, so I can post my contribution for the @extraordinaryzine :D!

my piece is an interpretation of the caverns on Iron Island 🏝️ so I wanted to incorporate more of the water surrounding it by creating a sea cave to have light spill inside (akin to the modra špilja/blue grotto)

the focus of the zine was on the daily lives of trainers and their pokemon, so Riley uses a spot inside the caverns like this to meditate with his team, although any new Riolu he trains can’t resist wanting to jump into the water to play υ´˶ ･ﻌ･ ˶`υﾉ”

I always forget until I hear the music again how...normal Anville Town makes me feel. Like it's okay for me to be like this.

There's this Depot Agent, who talks about the trains as if they're living beings, the way I treat them.

Or this person, who just acknowledges that people do like trains and wonders what draws people in the most.

Or the mother and son railfans visiting Anville Town together. Since I tend to do train stuff with my dad, who I get my love of steam locomotives from, this warms my heart so much.

And then not in Anville Town, but elsewhere, we have this guy...

I can't believe they put O. Winston Link in this game.

Pokemon Black and White doesn't treat railfans as a joke. It just allows them to be people. The two strongest trainers in the game run the subway arm of the Unova MTA. They're not mocked for being the way they are (read: arguably the most autistic characters in the franchise), they're just allowed to be themselves, and other characters are actually in awe of them and take them seriously as trainers.

This is one of those rare cases where the source material doesn't actually make fun of people like me and instead just allows us to be ourselves, and it means so, so much to me. It's so nice to just be treated as a human being with passion instead of an ostracized weirdo.

Over the years, local farmers have perfected an almost foolproof method for protecting the grapes. The young plant is put in the ground after the farmer scrapes out a wide, shallow hole in the volcanic soil. The young vine is placed into this human-made depression. Then, larger volcanic stones are balanced around the wind-facing edge of the hole, creating a low, semicircular barrier. The height of the makeshift wall and the depth of the hole are important. The young vine still has to be able to soak in the sunshine without being hampered by shadows, and the hole has to be shallow enough that the plant is still getting nutrients and trapped water from the volcanic soil.

Each Lanzarote vineyard has thousands of these holes and walls, each holding a single vine.

I saw a small black rat thing? Though I'm fairly sure it was a bit different, at least compared to all of the rats I've seen throughout my travels.

There have been a distinctive abundance of small tropical birds flittering about. Far brighter than any birds native to London, or even England as a whole.

The beach was also nice. The one we woke up on. The sand was surprisingly soft, and the ocean water was far warmer than I was expecting.

gen 6 of pokemon is such a haunted generation to me. obviously not literally but like xy had that shit with the pokemon war and using the life force of pokemon to power an immortality machine, as well as setting up so many weird and alarming mysteries like the lumiose ghost girl and the train station note but never getting the opportunity to follow up on them in a third game. then oras just makes shit even more depressing with the downright miserable lore behind sea mauville (which also used the life force of pokemon for energy), where workplace abuse was common (expected even!) and literally tore a family apart at some point. like say what you want about gen 6 but it was kind of off the shits.
