A Sun Asunder: Post Apocalyptic if
Master Post

Tumblr media
❝When the sun went away, creatures of the dark came out to play.
The hours between dusk and dawn are no longer safe.❞
Before you were born, the earth was overrun by behemoths; spindly, pale creatures with a loping gate.
Billowing smoke expelled from their legs like gas, consuming thousands. The cover of darkness doesn't shield humanity anymore.
Now an adult -- a decade after the initial apocalypse, you are trying to steer clear of the roving giants. This life of hiding, running, and fighting are all you know. Modern comforts have never been something familiar to you.
With the looming threat of a behemoth approaching your new, broken home, you're force to flee...again. But for how much longer can you continue running? Can you figure where your parents went?
And, most importantly -- what ever happened to the sun?
Tumblr media
You had the privilege of being born on the island where it -- the apocalypse -- first happened.
Luckily (or unluckily) for you, the place has been abandoned ever since. Whoever could afford to leave, left for greener pastures. You and a handful of inhabitants now fend for yourselves, abandoned on the island.
Avoid shadow beasts, steer clear of the behemoths, scavenge whatever you can, and hopefully find a safe place to call home.
Survive with companions -- or be a lone wolf, utterly self succificent. Or, perhaps, your only allies are the handful of animals that have eeked out a living on this island. The answer lies within you.
Tumblr media
Four romance options and four animal 'companions' are planned. In the demo, one animal companion (feral dog) and the little sibling are introduced. (both are optional companions)
****This list is subject to change! I may hold votes on what the other animal companions will be but otherwise the RO's are already outlined.****

☆ Ranger - M/F selectable
Ranger is serious and reliable, living in a cabin within The Dead Woods. They take on the mantle of the 'wood ranger', despite the title holding little prestige now adays. can you figure out why Ranger defends these fruitless woods, refusing to flee? And what have they got hidden away in their cabin?
☆ Bite- M/F selectable
Bite is a feral man/woman who finds their residence high in the mountain cave. They're illusive and untrusting, thoroughly unsocialized. You don't know why they've been wandering all alone, all these years, but you're determined to find out. Can you figure out Bite's history? And will you foster the darkness inside of them -- or perhaps, show them the light?
☆Wanderer - M/F selectable
Wanderer is a nomadic trader, who refuses to stay in one area too long. They wear a face mask and heavy layers of clothes, obscuring your vision of them. Wanderer enjoys teasing you, but figuring our their true intentions proves to be a challenge. Will you ever find out where they procure their expansive collection of goods from?
☆ Shade - M/F selectable
Shade lives a harsh life in the desert, finding resources -- and company -- rare. Often finicky and jumpy, they've seemed to enclose on themselves, not allowing anybody too close. Can you unearth the reason behind Shade's self-imposed exile?
Tumblr media
The Map below basically scopes out all of the areas I intend to be explorable [again subject to change -- some may be removed/added depending on how the plot goes]
The Map can be obtained as an in game item later in the game.

Annd that's all! If you enjoy this, feel free to shoot me an ask or like this post! I'll update this periodically as the IF develops. Thanks for taking the time to make it till here if you stayed that long. Hopefully I'll have more detailed descriptions of all the 'areas' available to exploration later on.

Imagine if a zombie apocalypse happened and nobody cared. It didn't really effect wealthier areas because guards would shoot them down. There's some paranoia that zombies would overrun humans but society never really breaks down.
You'd hear about infested areas out in the rust belt, where entire towns were overtaken by the undead. And mabye you'd see a zombie or two when you're in a really bad neighborhood and you have to cross the street. Most undead are harmless outside of large groups, but it's always good to stay safe.
And if you go to an area that's completely overun things really will look like the apocalypse. And there's something exciting about that. Society is interested in those ghost towns, not as a tragedy, but as a spectacle. You've seen reality TV where people will head into the worst of the outbreak with nothing more then a knife and a camera, all while the locals look on wishing someone could take them back.
Most people don't think about zombies. They're just another thing in the world that sucks right now. Occasionally there's a reminder of them, but eventually you forget why anyone is even afraid at all. It seems so normal.
One of your coworkers was attacked the other day by a zombie. Nobody really knew her well. The main thing people were talking about at the office when it comes to her is how lucky she is the be in the hospital having her wounds treated and disinfected, instead of stuck at work. Someone as young as her is expected to be able to fight one off, mabye she did it on purpose. Nobody was still making jokes when they realized she died, people aren't supposed to die that way if they're rich enough to work in an office.
The apocalypse isn't enough to end society. Society is meant to be more resilient then reality, that's the point.

After The Bomb
There's an official Fallout ttrpg. I've read it. It's okay!
There's also, completely fanmade, After The Bomb.
And I want to put After The Bomb on your radar, because it's very, very good.
ATB uses a simple d20 + stat system, with bonuses from gear and perks factored in. You have a HP track, which burns at both ends from radiation and damage, and also a survival track that breaks pieces of your equipment whenever it depletes. Rolls are player-made, and the system spends a lot of time in that osr headspace where it cares more about the choices the players make than how they built their character. The game's currency is Junk, and you spend it repairing your gear and crafting consumables.
Levelling up is surprisingly rich with choice, and fights and obstacles are tense and deadly. Again, the core mechanics are simple, but they use this simplicity to push complex choices towards the players. You see a piece of valuable Junk floating in a bog. Do you go in and take a point of radiation? Risk coming back later? Waste your own Junk fashioning a contraption to try and get it out?
After The Bomb comes with its own sandbox campaign set in Minnesota, plus a *lot* of GM support for stuff like factions, monsters, and basebuilding.
It's a gem in our current pre-apocalypse, and I strongly recommend giving it a look.
