Low Income T Riders:
The Rollout of the Low Income MBTA fare program is in the public comment phase until Feb. 29.
Comment here:
Call (857) 327-3282
Mail to:
Public Engagement Department
10 Park Plaza, Suite 3830
Boston, MA 02116
Meetings to discuss changes are Here all over boston starting today.
Talking points:
Free bus fare would contribute to higher on-time rates and decreased bunching from lower stop times
Free bus fare would reduce administrative costs for low income rider programs to zero
Free Bus Fare would reduce violence on the T: Fares are the single most common flash point for driver assault
Free Bus fare would increase mobility for lower income people who have been demonstrated to increase their use of transit if fares are reduced.
The MBTA, like the NY Subway, should have its budget balanced by Tolls, Gas, Vehicle Licensing, vehicle rental, Payroll and Real Estate taxes as a direct incentive for businesses to switch operations away from private vehicles and towards public transit
Please reblog this if you like the shitposts, I want people engaging with the MBTA political process

President Joe Biden's visit to a Philadelphia Wawa draws criticism, with detractors calling it staged political theater akin to Trump's Chick-fil-A stop.
Critics question the authenticity of the event, meant to showcase Biden's public connection.

Our team at WE-DESIGNS™ @we_designs_llc is working hard during the pandemic on reworking several of our past projects to engage in post-COVID-19 strategies and design opportunities. Care for Hudson Square is a recovery initiative aimed at reinvigorating the Hudson Square @hudsonsquarenyc neighborhood. As a fellow at Urban Design Forum @urbandesignforum since 2018, our team was invited as one of the small and M/WBE (Minority and Women Business Enterprise) design firms to submit proposals for an interactive street installation that would help reactivate the public realm. To highlight the historic former “Printing District” that has formalized the current version of Hudson Square as a creative hub, our team at WE-DESIGNS proposed to use high-impact colors, patterns, and strategies to bring attention to the site. The design elements and colors of the landscape will be playfully chosen to emphasize food and colors. From the selected modular seating and potters, to the variety of organic plants, to the temporarily painted walkable pathways, to the culturally diverse curated food trucks, to the human “flex area” and dog playground, our proposal is to offer a multi-sensorial experience, used to attract the broader public. #architecture #publicart #urbanplanning #socialdistancing #publicengagement #publicspace #modular #design #publicseating @dezeen @designboom (at Hudson Square Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLVajH5hPnu/?igshid=1k602wua8ss5z

TRANSMISSIONS, 2019 papercut, single channel video Examining notions of time, travel and motherhood, Transmissions explores the challenges women face in conjunction with the long-lasting flexibility and strength of Eastern traditions. Hieronymus Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights (c. 1517) is transformed into an intricate, papercut screen to form a worldly, personal paradise. In this installation, soft thin paper is cut hollow. This process conveys a long-term unremitting labor that exemplifies lasting patience. The cut out trees, flowers, figures and cities nurture the projected video, portraying the intimacy of everyday life, and the many roles a woman must fulfill in order to reach her desires in a professional, artistic career. #ThePinkPeriod by NZ artist #TiffanySingh explores the narrative of Women’s Liberation through objects of the domestic (in collaboration with Taiwanese artist Jui-pin Chang). The exhibition is on view from September 7 – November 10, 2019 @bangkok1899 @rockefellerfdn @fordfund #Bangkok1899 #Thailand #NewZealand #Art #PublicEngagement #Sustainability #SocialPracticeArt #FeministArt #Feminist #Motherhood #ConceptualArt #Women #CreativeMigration #RockefellerFoundation #FordFund #NaProjectsGroup #CanonThailand (at Bangkok 1899) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3JiH06FgFe/?igshid=1wr9qm2ewhsp8

Creative Migration is pleased to announce Bangkok 1899, a new cultural and civic hub representing an intersection of art, design, urbanism and social innovation.
Designed by Italian architect Mario Tamagno (under King Rama VI), this historic location (originally built in 1899) is the former home of Chao Phraya Thammasakmontri – considered Thailand’s father of modern education. For the first time ever, this landmark is open to the public. Major support is provided by The Rockefeller Foundation and Ford Motor Company Fund (Ford Fund). This project also has active support provided by the RSA (Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce).
Bangkok 1899 will officially open its doors on February 16, 2019. There will be a night of music and sound performances with our inaugural artist-in-resident, musician and songwriter Shayne P. Carter. Hailing from Dunedin, New Zealand, he has been performing and recording internationally for the past three decades. As part of this international residency, Carter is collaborating with Morlam musician Piyanart "Pump” Jotikasthira (of Studio Lam and The Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band) along with the rhythm section of Toomturn Molam Group, and Chiang Mai based sound artist Arnont Nongyao. This evening kicks off a series highlighting the first of Bangkok 1899's four major event themes for 2019: Arts & Cultural Diplomacy. Each themed event will take place quarterly - including the following: Sustainability, Society, The Future. This event is supported by The Rockefeller Foundation, Ford Motor Company Foundation, Creative New Zealand Foundation, Asia New Zealand Foundation, New Zealand Embassy (Bangkok, Thailand) and Studio Lam.
Introducing Shayne P. Carter to participate in Bangkok 1899’s International Artist Residency December 16, 2018 – February 17, 2019
Shayne P. Carter’s accomplishments include: New Zealand Music Hall of Fame; New Zealand Music Awards (best vocalist, top group, best album); international releases (Arista, Sony, Sub Pop, Rough Trade); four-time APRA Silver Scroll finalist; original work performed with Auckland Philharmonia, Dunedin/Christchurch Symphony Orchestras; and 'She Speeds' voted #9, APRA list of Greatest All Time New Zealand songs. Since last year, he was the Silver Scrolls Musical Director in Dunedin, and toured Asia extensively (China, Taiwan, Korea) as a live musician with the contemporary Maori dance company Atamira.
The long-term goal of this residency is to provide a fluid exchange between Carter and one of his Thai collaborators, extending the opportunity to present work created at Bangkok 1899 and to develop new projects in New Zealand.
Background
Creative Migration developed Bangkok 1899 with the mission to advance cultural diplomacy through the three pillars of art, public engagement and sustainability.
Bangkok 1899's programming is inclusive, accessible and relationship-driven. Furthermore, we encourage individuals to pursue the lost art of leisure, engage in spontaneous discussions and open up avenues of creativity. Our holistic approach is executed primarily through the following:
International Artist Residency - multidisciplinary program requiring collaboration with Thai artists and/or the local community.
Open Spaces - public garden & "Na at 1899" - a social impact café.
Public Events - local and global themes, curated from both within and outside the community.
Models for Sustainability - incorporating Zero Waste practices and urban farming into the hub’s ecosystem.

3 Main Ideas from "Decolonising Science Communication in the Caribbean: Challenges and Transformations in Community-Based Engagement with Research on the ABCSSS Islands"
Decolonizing science communication in the Caribbean
Science communication often excludes local contexts and voices. Researchers fly in, collect data, and leave without meaningful engagement. This "helicopter science" echoes colonial practices.
Decolonizing science communication means centering local knowledge, needs and perspectives.
Challenges in nature conservation communication
Nature conservation relied on "fortress conservation" to create parks without local input. This leads to conflict and lack of public engagement.
Research agendas are often dictated by foreign interests and lack local impact.
Transforming mental health care communication
Mental health care communication often excludes local cultural beliefs. Historical mistrust of healthcare systems deters access.
New efforts like translating materials into local languages can help make communication more inclusive.
Advocate for science communication that engages local populations as equal partners.
Please let me know in the comments which article I should tackle next!

It’s true. The 70s were COOL! But we’re glad the boss doesn't wear Stubbies anymore ;-) Some thing’s haven’t kept up. Like our law on data, privacy and statistics. The Stats Act hasn’t changed since 1975. It doesn’t even mention ‘data’. FAR OUT! Wonderlab is pleased to brand and help launch the public consultation on reviewing this important legislation; the Stats Act. Take a look. Revisit the 70s, take a Quiz and test your knowledge, find out why the Act needs a refresh http://www.stats1975.nz #legislation #publicengagement #branding #StatsNZ #statistics #ethicaldata #data #campaign #quiz #socialmediamarketing (at Wonderlab) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoOYL-3BQcS/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=fn2tkot5gce2
