Time for day 2! Where Qrow and Clover go to the fun fair together in @yoomschoocs and I's Bakery AU, in which Qrow sports some neat tats👀

For this day, Yoom did the sketch and lineart, and I did the coloring and shading! I also heavily edited an image for the bg because I was struggling lol

Rank taken away, found almost dead by Watts and Hazel, Clover didn’t believe his semblance was as good fortune as he thought it was. Regardless, he’ll take what’s given to him, a second chance at living. Just maybe as a villain this time~

In this AU, Clover is rescued by Watts and Hazel, where he was found practically dead and the lack of a limb (hint hint). Now serving under Salem as a spy (in similar to a birdie we know) he isn’t the same, sweet captain of the Ace Ops we grew to love and know

He takes no pleasure in working for them, but he has no other choice. He and Hazel are considered the muscles of the group. The two somewhat have a mutual respect for each other. Clover and Watts are constantly at each other’s throats, and Clover will not hesitate to rip him a new one if given the chance. Tyrian on the other hand... well, Clover stays away from him as best he could

He feels nothing towards Cinder, and vice versa. Emerald and Mercury, however, he treats like how Hazel treats them. Like an elder brother figure of some sort

He does get redemption, cause I crave for angst and pining and and,,, and bc I said so-

So @matt0044 tagged me in a good post discussing some of the massive double standards experienced by women in media. In brief:

Men are allowed to be unlikable and even the fucking worst and will get mountains of meta about their emotional complexity and goodness.

In contrast, a woman cant so much as turn down a man she's not interested in, or be negatively impacted by trauma without being demonized.

Unsurprisingly a lot of this plays into RWDE's "Critique" of RWBY. IE, how they'll ignore Qrow and Jaune outright assaulting Oscar, but insist Yang attacked him because she was angry at Ozpin.

It also made me think of a recent 'complaint' regarding the excellent Sousou No Frieren. After the introduction of third main character Stark, someone said:

"To bad the author forgets about him after this."

Which flabbergasted me, as I knew the very next episode/chapter were were gonna get more of his backstory, motives ad emotional depth. I also knew of upcoming battles where he's every bit as much of a major character as fellow MC Fern. Let alone more stuff to come regarding backstory and old foes ETC.

But then it hit me.

Stark isn't somehow getting less attention than the women in the cast, he's getting the same amount. But to this person, this was him being forgotten about and maligned, because he was on the same playing field focus wise as women.

Which is rather akin to how most men perceive women as talking too much or over them if they speak the same amount.

Which also ties back into RWBY and how a lot of RWDE flip out about a female centric show... Focusing on women, and not their favorite male projection character who wasn't even advertised as an MC.

I still can’t believe some ppl follow me for my ocs bc it’s usually for my fanart so this is really nice to hear! I have a couple stories/universes but the main one I’ve been…developing (it’s on and off) since I was like 13/14 is about these two kids named Keiko and Rolin!! Im still doing a lot of world and lore building but the main gist is that Rolin is a teenage boy turning 16 who returns to his hometown to live with his aunt and meets a strange young girl named Keiko (debating on making her 10-12 idk she was originally 10). I won’t go too much into like Lore stuff but she has like..my own version of clairvoyance. They are kind of opposites, with Rolin being introverted and jaded, and Keiko being loud and optimistic but they are both silly.

I think it’s been said before but the whole driving relationship of the story is the two of them going on adventures throughout the city and solving mysteries while simultaneously becoming family and finding a real home within each other and the people they’ve met and learned to love 😚

Now the story is centered around Rolin and Keiko, but a big focus is on the cast of characters that fill mostly Rolins life. Mira and Artie were friends with Rolin when they were kids before Rolin left with his mom, and all three grew up and have been living their own lives, but when Rolin comes back they get a chance to reconnect (with Keiko’s help). Valoryn (Val) is also new in town, and befriends Rolin and Keiko. This is just a messy fast doodle of them I have better art in my oc tags🙏

The other major cast is Rolin’s family, and Rolin has always been Asian so as I worked on the story his family kept getting more and more relevant especially with a major theme of the story being about the connections you have with people in your life so like I can’t leave them out. And I’ve never settled on an Asian ethnicity until recently where I was like I might as well make him Filipino so I can base his family off my own🫡 Cousins (both blood and not) that are years older than you but treat you like siblings and give u silly nicknames 🫶

Now Diana (or Deedee) is one of those characters I’ve had for a long time, and I made her because I liked those laidback mentor figures in anime (like Qrow from rwby) and wanted a laidback lady one 🤷🏻‍♀️ she also has some Misato from nge influence. She has always been written to be a mentor figure to Rolin and Keiko, and at one point I think I was going to make her his actual aunt but stuck to her being just a cousin so I could write about her relationship with her mom 🫶 Unlike her brother Darius, she does not live with her mom and Rolin has to go out of his way to meet her.

And Rolin’s parents’ story aren’t the main focus (they aren’t really present themselves in the main story) and it’s mostly just flashback stuff but they r silly and sad and I love drawing them 😼

Nine People I'd Like To Get to Know Better

Tagged by: I wasn't tagged by anyone but I saw this going around, I really wanted to take part, and it's been in my drafts for a few weeks now. I figured now is as good a time as any.

Last song:

I truly do love Qveen Herby and her style. Especially for this song, it's one of the many I listen to on repeat. Herby is a phenomenal artist and her lyrics are works of art. I can't get enough of her songs, I just keep coming back and listening over and over.

Favourite Colour: Purple & Black

Last movie/TV show:

A Very Muppet Christmas Movie (it's still technically the Christmas season, up until January 6th, so my partner and I are still watching Christmas movies)

Star Trek: The Original Series (I've never seen the series before but my partner is introducing me to the series. We're on S1 and I am absolutely loving it)

Last Book (this is a personal add-on): The Book of (More) Delights: Essays by Ross Gay (A truly delightful book, perfect for starting off the year. I highly recommend it. It's not fast paced, nor slow, more medium paced. It's very hopeful and reflective. It's definitely helped me to slow down and look around me, to notice that which brings delight into my life or I find delightful. Even if it's not every day.)

Last thing I googled: "tunic game" someone mentioned being obsessed with this game and I'd never heard of it before so I had to look it up. It looks adorable and now I want to play it really really badly

Current obsession: I have a few obsessions I rotate through every once in awhile. Books, pins, stickers, certain shows/characters, the Sims, mythology, plushies, and more.

But right now it's looking at character art on Pinterest. I love saving and sharing these because they not only make great inspo but some are just beautifully well done works that are meant to be shared.
