I owe it to myself to dig deep inside my chest and dust off the parts of me that make up my identity. It is mine, and only mine, to define, to reclaim, to hold close.

Are you ready for your new favourite collection? This might just be my favourite of the year so far. #Disconnected #BookReview
Wow, wow, wow this is an incredible connection. Going in I expected more poetry than short stories but in the end, I thought these were some of the best short stories I have ever read. There was a real sense of variety despite the connection they all share and the collection itself.
This is a collection that tackles so many different issues from grief to family. Real life issues to fantastic…

I know this isn't a poetry post, but so many good moments have happened today that I wanted to share my happiness with you all. I finally received the book #lovelyseeds by R.H. Swaney and I am so happy to finally add this book with the rest of my growing poetry books. He is such a wonderful writer and I'm so happy I'm able to hold this book in my hands and read it from pages. I also got the keyboard I ordered in the mail today. I used to be a super band nerd while in high school, and after spending the last two years without touching an instrument, I can't believe I still remember how to play. Some things never go away I guess, and I know that my love for music will never fade. I honestly feel like for the first time in a long time that my life is taking a turn for the better and I feel like a better person. I hope that you, or anyone who reads this, knows that life will get better. I hope you all have an amazing day and a happy life.
~ Sending you all my love, i.n.t.

Review & Wrap-up:
When I first received [Dis]Connected I was intrigued by the concept of it. Michelle Halket, publisher at Central Avenue Publishing, came up with the idea for it when she heard someone say “they heard poetry was the next colouring book… referring to the craze of adult colouring books.” She couldn’t stand this thought, and so she came up with the idea of connecting poets from all over and have each one pen a poem. From there she drew names out of hat and had each poet then write a short story inspired by their assigned partner’s poem. The result: [Dis]Connected.
It has been forever and a day since I have read a book of short stories and even longer still since I have read a book of poems. I find that both of these styles involve a little more brain power to read - and to fully comprehend - than the average book and article. So much detail and understanding has to be crammed into this short and condensed frame, that if done incorrectly it’s just a hot mess. But if it is done correctly? The euphoria that can be received from the experience can be life altering!
While I wouldn’t say [Dis]Connected was ‘life-altering,’ I would say that I did connect with it and it’s many authors on several different levels. I saw their hurt, their pain, their love and loss. I saw the crazy sociopath and literary lover; the threatened immigrants and loved homosexuals; the real and the fey. I got a glimpse into their hearts and souls, and saw the world through their eyes. I found it very interesting to see how I could interpret a poem one way, and someone else could take that same poem and interpret in a completely different way; something I hadn’t done since studying Dickinson in my freshman English Literature class at Queens University. I forgot how fun it could be!
I sat down with [Dis]Connected intrigued and -if I”m honest - a little daunted, but I walked away inspired and with a new view of the world. I was also I little mentally drained from finally giving my brain a much needed workout, but it was a great feeling, one that I look forward to doing more often!
If you’re looking for a book to make your mind work and connect you to others who are different than you, then I highly recommend that you pick up a copy of [Dis]Connected, and get ready for a journey into the depths of many different souls.
From one bookaholic to another, I hope I’ve helped you find your next fix. —Dani

Pair it with: Storyteller Into the Fog Pinot Noir
This wine has cherry fruit on the nose the settle softly into flavors of tart cranberries and dark berry fruit. Its vibrant acidity complements the rich fruit flavors. Pair with portobello mushrooms or a classic coq au vin.

Review: Lovely Seeds by R.H. Swaney.
The debut collection from Swaney, Lovely Seeds is a collection that sees her discuss growth, autonomy and change in a stunning and lyrical way that sticks with you.
Swaney certainly delivers emotion in her words throughout this book as she explores different themes. Moving through Political and Personal and how they connect, this book is a sign of the times in the best of ways.
A fantastic collection of poems, R.H. Swaney shines in her debut here, giving us something fresh and thoughtful that you will be dwelling on for days.
(I received an ARC from Netgalley for a honest review).
