(I thought this song was perfect for this, I remember watching this in the movie theaters way back when, loved it and still do. The first time I saw a representation of some of my culture on that scale, such an underrated movie.)

- In any situation you guys are in, working together or having two different jobs? I don’t think it’d be a surprise when I say the first kiss happens very early into the relationship and they’re the one to initiate it.

- No coaxing or dancing around the subject, you’re getting kissed like three days into the relationship tops.

- If you guys work for Overwatch together, and y’all won a particularly rough mission after going back and forth with the enemy, emotions are high as the celebration of the triumph proceeds.

- It happens so suddenly, like you’re next to Venture, happy as a clam after putting your all into your fighting. Then, out of nowhere, you’re getting grabbed and pulled into a sudden and passionate kiss that leaves you stunned and flushed, silent as a church mouse when they pull away.

- You know that one scene in ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ Where Roger kisses Detective Valiant as if his life depended on it? It’s along the lines of something like that.

- You probably said something like, “I could kiss you right now!” After they saved you from getting pulverized and in their mind they went “Bet”.

- Trust me, they’re also kind of surprised that they actually did it—

- Time freezes for a moment as y’all kissed cause the team to go silent before an uproar from the particularly positive teammates— Causing even more cheering, especially if you have someone like Reinhardt on the team, he’d hype you guys up so much.

- That or if you guys are archeologists or simply have different jobs from one another it’s more private and Sloane can try to convince you that it was on purpose. But in Overwatch? Fuck no lol.

- The whole roster was like 80% sure you guys were a thing, but that went up 1000% when Sloane kissed you as if they needed it to breathe.

- Spreads like wildfire and by the end of the day everyone knows you guys are a couple, and a rather cute one on top of that.

- At least you guys don’t have to tell everyone that you’re a thing now.

- It makes Venture a little sad. They were planning something big to announce it cause they felt like it needed to be as special as they think your guys’s relationship is. They were biting back the urge to brag about it for 72 hours (the longest time they’ve ever kept something like that to themselves besides their feelings before you guys were a thing), all for naught.

- Reassure them it isn't a big deal and that if they look at it from a different perspective, the first kiss was a great way of doing it.

- They’ll spring back up when you say that, saying something like “Oh I planned to do it like that anyways!”

- You know, like a liar.

- Besides that little hiccup, it was a great first kiss, they wouldn't have it any other way.

- As one might expect, everyone has different views on the matter, with the positive ones that are like “Aweee look at them go!” And think it’s cute: (Ana, D.Va, Junkrat; a mix between neutral but more positive nonetheless, Kiriko, Lucio, Lifeweaver, Illari, Mei, Mercy, Reinhardt, Sigma; same as Junkrat)

Now that the Seaworthiest Ship in the Dungeon Tournament is finished, I'll make a funny comments post probably either Thursday or Saturday (busy week) and take a weeklong break afterwards. If staff haven't nuked my account for being a trans woman, I'll run a new tournament after that.

I hit 1000 followers on this blog during the preparation of the tournament that just finished. As I've announced, I have a plan for a tournament to celebrate it. It will be the Favourite Anything in the Series Tournament.

The idea is as follows: You guys submit stuff you like from the series, I put it all in a giant bracket, and then I run a tournament with that bracket to determine the ultimate favourite thing from the series. You can submit anything you like: Characters, monsters, dishes, outfits, ships, scenes, or anything else. You can submit as many things as you like. You can submit a picture along with your favourite anything if you like, and if you don't I'll just pick out a nice picture for you.

Update: Submissions close Sunday February 25th, 10am Central European Time. I'll ignore anything submitted after that.

Nokto, Townsquare, Eggnog

A sweet ache from the teasing twin. Approx. 1000 words of Nokto and a night he'll remember. IkePri New Years Event story!

Nokto spun the Belle and caught her, drawing her along to the rhythm of fiddles and hand drums. This was no courtly dance with elaborate footwork and orchestral tones. Tonight was a raucous party of masked nobility and commoners, ringing in the new year with a round of drunk merriment. 

He felt the thick sweetness of rose liquor on his tongue, and the beads of sweat beading on his forehead beneath the blue fox mask he wore. Despite the cold night air, he was warm. Warm inside and out, and it had little to do with the activity and more with the company.

The Belle laughed in his arms, holding tight to him as he lifted her up. He could see her smiling beneath the white rabbit mask that covered most of her face. “Ahhh, Nokto! Put me down!” 

“I’m not Nokto tonight,” he reminded her with a smirk. “And you’ll need to ask nicely . . .”

She giggled and adjusted her mask. “Right. Let’s see . . .” Her lips parted, the pink tip of her tongue poked out for a heartbeat - just long enough to give Nokto some wicked ideas. “Oh, prince of foxes, would you kindly please set me down? I need to fetch a drink and sit for a moment. Please.”

“On one condition, my little bunny.” His smirk widened into a grin. “You drink with me.”

He could almost hear the unseen rise of an eyebrow, and the sudden tension in her frame. “I . . . ok, but don’t think I’m going to end up in your bed.”

“Again.” Nokto chuckled. “Would that be so terrible a way to start this year?” He set her on her feet, his hands skimming lightly over her hips. There were hundreds of women at the celebration tonight. How was it that he only wanted this one, the one that said no? He felt a tightening in his chest, an strange and unfamiliar heaviness. 

Her fingertips brushed his cheek. “Are you alright?”

“Hm? Yes. Of course I am.” He forced his smile to return. “Ridiculous question.”

“Ok. It’s just . . .” She bit her lip, continuing only when he said nothing into the silence between them. “You looked pained. For a moment.” The Belle gave a slight, uneasy shrug. 

Nokto ruffled the hair at the nape of her neck. “Your imagination is impressive.” His hand lingered for several heartbeats. She felt warm, and her hair was soft as sin. He realized he wanted to kiss her. To lean close and taste her lips. But if he did, she would leave and he . . . he swallowed the desire, forcing it down. “Come on. Let’s find something good.”

He grabbed her hand and led her through the throng to one of the market stalls. He bought her a hot cider and for himself, mulled wine. Then they sat at a low bench nearby, where they could see the town square fountain. 

The spray of falling water caught the lamp light, glistening like flecks of gold in the night air. Heatless embers that hung for a moment in the dark before disappearing into the pool below. “It’s really beautiful.” The Belle leaned against him, her mouth curved in a sweet, gentle smile.

Nokto looked at her, feeling that tightness again. His heart strained, too fast, too hard, his blood felt thick and too warm. Heat radiating from every part of him that touched her. “Beautiful,” he echoed, the word catching in his throat. He struggled to find the suave and self assured gallant he presented himself as, but that prince was nowhere in evidence. He felt laid bare, exposed, his emotions bubbling to the surface no matter how he tried to push them back. 

Her fingers brushed the edge of his chin as she reached to fix his hair. “Your bangs,” she said by way of explanation. He could feel her light touch against his scalp, the edge of his ear, as she tucked the hair into place. And then, unexpectedly, the drift of her fingertips trailing down his cheek. Her thumb skimmed the edge of his bottom lip. 

He froze, unable - unwilling - to move. If he said anything, if he reacted, he knew she would flee. Even his breath stilled, crystalized in that moment of unhoped for touch. 

The Belle’s breath was shallow, her expression impossible to read behind her mask. “S-sorry.” She dropped her hand to her lap. “I thought you had a - a bit of wine. On your lip.”

“I haven’t taken a sip yet.” His voice was rougher than normal, a predatory edge to it. 

“Oh.” She cleared her throat. “Must have been a shadow.”

“Must have been.” His lips curved into a teasing smile. “Perhaps I should look for a little shadow on your face as well?” He leaned closer, pretending to inspect her lips. He curled a finger beneath her chin, brushing his fingertips against her throat. This was more like it, he thought. The game of seduction, moves he knew all too well. Want without the ache for more. 

All he wanted was a kiss, he told himself. His pulse beat wildly in his throat as he felt her breath on his cheek. 

“Nokto.” Her voice was as warm and sweet as summer honey. An invitation and a warning. 

“No. Tonight I’m the prince of foxes and you are the bunny queen. Noone will care if we . . . if we kiss.” His lips were almost touching hers, the air between them thick with tension. 

The Belle’s lips quirked in a small, half smile he felt rather than saw. “No one?”

The bands in his chest burned, knotted around his heart. A tangle of emotion. Nokto knew she was right. He knew, and yet. His lips met hers, a crush of soft flesh that tasted of apples and spice. His tongue parted her lips, delving deeper, teasing. 

There was nothing but her, his Belle. The feel of her hands gripping his shoulders, her lips moving hungrily against his. The scent of her, the taste of her, the feel of her body pressed tight to him. A thousand kisses, and there was never one like this. One that set his blood on fire and his heart ablaze. One that eased the aching emptiness and filled the dark places in him with light.

Naturally, the answer is no.

The thunderstorm proves to be not enough of a distraction, no matter how engrossed Gilbert appears to be, standing in front of the floor-length windows with the demeanor of someone giving a standing ovation at the opera. You study him from the corner of your eye, wondering what exactly you're missing here that he finds so bemusing. This type of weather... it entertains him, being able to witness it here in Rhodolite seems to be a joy equal to attending some sort of spectacle for him.

Most people would adopt a look of horror on their faces, slammed under the weight of their own uselessness against the almighty will of Nature. But not Gilbert. He'd stand with hands clasped behind his back, silently admiring, lips curved in a smile.

And you... you're not much different; when the lightning strikes and the gruesome rumble of a thunder follows almost immediately, you don't gaze away in fear: you hurriedly turn to Gilbert, craving the rare beauty of his frame lit up by the dreadful source of light, a sight lasting no longer than a mere second. The red of his eye is a richer shade now, one that candlelight can't offer you in this cloud-cast darkness, and you're thankful.

Your arm is guided by willpower you'd seldom find in yourself should the moment was normal - yes, it's something about him right now; like a deity of his own that dares look the horrors of Nature in the eye, smiling; you want to graze that divinity and see for yourself if he's real.

Or maybe it's because you're standing there right next to him, letting the lightning form a lengthy shadow behind you like it does to Gilbert, coloring you in its pale light, like it colors Gilbert. You're like him, you're by his side, you're his - the arm wrapping around his waist is surely an act of recognizing where your place is, who you are— 

"What is it, little rabbit? Are you bored?"

Your arm falls limp to your side, as if paralyzed by the poisonous yet faint warmth of his body that is clinging to it, activated by sudden realization of your bold acts... Amidst the chemical cataclysm taking place somewhere in your brain, Gilbert joins, by wrapping an arm of his own around your waist.

"Mmm...see, that's the good thing about those so-called spring storms... they come to wreck everything on their way, then they're gone in the blink of an eye! Don't be bored now, just a little more... we can go for a nice little walk afterward. I'll let you walk ahead, so I can watch you cross the path covered with scattered rose petals. They'd look even more beautiful crushed under your feet, don't you think?"

State of the art (TW below cut, sfw above)

It took Friends With Kids' Kid a bit to get used to his stuffed monkey. A few days ago, his dad sent us a video of them playing with it over the bars of his crib.

It's lost somewhere in the ether, but I've seen a similar video of myself and my dad doing the same thing, and I am so glad that Friends recorded that. Whatever else may happen in his life, now Kid has proof that when he was really small, his dad loved him so much that he made him laugh until he fell over.

I think my role in that process, as the maker of the monkey, always was my career goal. Capitalism aside, I want to make things that people have nice memories with, not strictly of - the finer details of a richer plot in the back corners of their minds. I think I went into film knowing this but not understanding it: I wanted to work on the edgier Adult Swim shorts because they remind me of screwing around with my friends. It's only recently hit me that one gets so much more out of tangible things, and we're kind of turning away from them as a culture. Healthy love is so much more physical than what I was raised to believe.

Anyway, I've hit on something I'd really like to make for myself. I found an old cross stitch pattern of a cat sitting in a portrait pose, and I've customized it for a few friends to excellent results. One of my friends has a tripod cat, and I adjusted the pattern just a bit to reflect that - and she says she teared up when she opened it. In 20 years she'll remember Willow very well, and still have a piece of her to hold. I can't replace Willow - no one can - but I sure can help celebrate her.

I'm pretty open about my folks just consistently stepping in it as parents, largely because I want to normalize it but also because the rabbit hole is always a little deeper than I remember. I've told you stories I hate. This is the story I hate the most.

TW child abuse via animal abuse

My mom used to get me pets for birthdays, Christmas, etc. None of them had a natural death. With the exception of I think one "accident", they all "ran off" shortly after, and I have no idea why. It was 1000% some kind of punishment, but we never discussed it; I couldn't have told you what I did. It comes up quite a bit in therapy because I'm trying to find a pattern for it and I can't. Overall, we're trying to focus on making a narrative, getting down the objective facts, and it's really upsetting to me to have to just boil it down to "my caretaker deliberately hurts things smaller than she is".

The first and the last were cats. Bear, the last one, somehow "hopped" a six foot fence in coyote county... despite being both indoor and declawed. I begged her to help me look for him and she said no and flat out ignored me. Luckily it was my dad's night, and despite the half hour between their houses, he ran me home and we whipped right back out there with "lost" flyers. He doesn't remember it too well, but he was pissed. He very pointedly stapled one to the same fence that Bear got over. Later my mom chewed us both out, I suppose for standing up. We never did find Bear (he wasn't lost) but it never happened to a living thing again, thank goodness. After that my clothes started walking off on their own, but between the two options, I'd take that in a heartbeat.

The first cat was named Pogo, who did have claws and was indoor/outdoor - and also, I wasn't more than 5, and the pattern hadn't started yet. He "ran off" sometime between my dad moving out and my mom and I getting an apartment. I spent a distraught week calling for him every time I was outside, and that was the end of it. I guess I'm still a little surprised; it wasn't yet something I could see through.

Frankly I feel terrible that there is no memorial for Pogo. I can still picture him pretty clearly, and so can my father- he was loved, and his life was forcibly cheapened by someone who hated us more than she loved him.

I believe I'll stitch him up so we can all remember what he looked like.

I'd like to know more about Paint night!

Paint night is just supposed to be a really simple fic where Squall and Rinoa go to one of those sip-and-paint classes. It was SUPPOSED to be short and fluffy but I went down a rabbit hole trying to figure out "why would Rinoa go if she is bad at art" and "why would Squall go if he is Squall and we are only a few months post-game". It was just going to be cute and funny, but instead, I spiraled out into self-discovery (for Squall) and insecurity (for Rinoa) and it stopped being about the cute date I wanted it to be!!

So for me to complete this WIP I probably have to start a new doc and reel it back in. I'd like it to be under 1000 words because I want to challenge myself to write shorter fics here and there.

Anyway, here is the first part before I went off the rails. Sorry if there is a typo or two, I haven't edited it at all yet.

“Selphie, I really appreciate this but…” Rinoa said as she pushed her finger under the seal of the envelope. “There’s no such thing as a 7-month dating anniversary. You really didn’t have to get me anything.”

Selphie beamed. 

“You and Squall are two of my favorite people!” she exclaimed. “I just wanted to celebrate you! And look at the card! Isn’t it cute?” 

Rinoa pulled out the white piece of cardstock. In elegant cursive, shiny black debossed letters spelled out, “There’s been buzz about your love!” The text sat beneath two cartoonish and happy bumble bees, along with loopy flight lines and tiny hearts. 

“Your bumble was meant to bee,” Rinoa read the inscription inside. “Okay, I have to admit, that is adorable.”

“Look at the gift certificate!” Selphie said as she poked the folded-up piece of paper in the card.  

It struck Rinoa that Selphie’s smile was just a little too big–possibly the last thing you see before a disaster. It was like the smile she had in FH when she told her role in getting the Commander to relax. Selphie was up to something, and it worried Rinoa.

Another 12 months of animatin', illustratin' and video creatin' in the can! This was another pretty stacked year for freelance work and building up my YouTube channel. Read on for more details on each month!

January:

The year kicked off with the release of What a Waste, which I animated at the end of last year. I created a poster to celebrate it's launch.

I also had some artwork in print via an article in LeftLion magazine!

I also illustrated my OC Drillbot ReV for the year of the rabbit and put out a new animation showreel.

February:

I did a valentines card for CherryT of the pair of us in Mario & Luigi style. I was also commissioned to do an edit of the van animation I did last year, this time with a car and some other minor tweaks.

March:

At the start of this month I hit over 1000 subscribers on YouTube, only took 17 years! To celebrate I put together a quick video talking about the past, present and future of the channel, using it as a test to see how I could start making more fully-edited, scripted videos using my PNGTuber.

The first of these was an almost hour long video exploring my DVD/Blu-Ray collection.

April:

This was the month that I really pushed to get a load different videos out on my channel, with full illustrated thumbnails for each! This mostly consisted of a six-part let's play of the Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, cut down from an April fools day livestream.

I also did an impressions video about the Super Mario Bros movie and a scripted video about Easter eggs I snuck into my animations, just in time for Easter! I also made a speedpaint video for one of the video thumbnails and made a new logo for the speedpaint videos.

There was also a birthday card illustration for CherryT inspired by the Mario movie!

May:

May was a pretty quiet month, mainly consisting of two illustrations: a quick one of an OC for mermay and a piece of fan art of vTuber Asha the Game Genie. Both of these were captured off-stream and turned into speedpaint videos.

I also made a supercut of a Netherlands travel vlog from 2018 with a bunch of additional footage that I never got around to editing before, in time for the 5th anniversary of our friends wedding that we attended that year!

June:

My first big freelance project finally arrived between May and June, an informational film about Credit Unions, done in a similar style to several films I did last year, but with more colour in the mix.

I also did a couple of livestreams this month, namely a reaction stream to a Nintendo Direct and a Sonic anniversary stream, a part of which was edited into a video of me drawing obscure Sonic characters from memory.

July:

With that freelance project done and dusted I dedicated most of this month to some personal animating stuff: mainly giving my PNGTuber a fresh coat of paint by improving all the animations with more frames. I made a scripted video about the process.

I also made big progress on a re-animated collab shot that I finally finished in November.

August:

Browsing my pages you'd think I did absolutely nothing this month, but I was in fact deep in researching for a video series I plan to make for YouTube in the near future when I have more spare time for it. What started as a single short video idea deep-dived into a rabbit hole of fascinating stuff that I can't wait to share with you all!

I also started animating an intro for this video series, which is currently sitting in sketch form and will be returned to next year when I can!

September:

My YouTube planning had to be stuck on hold as another big freelance project landed on my lap: an informational film about community lenders. There is some pretty fun scenes in this, and yet another loan shark character! This took up all of September and was released at the end of October.

October:

Just as I wrapped up the previous project another even bigger one was being cooked up: a sequel to What a Waste! Once the filming of the puppetry and the recording of the voice talent was ready I could get to work on once again animating faces for the returning apple character and the five new characters!

What a Waste was a pretty experimental film but this time around I had a working system in place to jump straight in and assumed I would be able to get this one done in less time. I technically did get it done in less time because the deadline for it was much tighter, but it was a crunch to do so, consisting in total of over 2000 assets!

In the short space between these projects I illustrated Rouge the Bat based on a Twitter trend.

November:

November was mostly taken up by wrapping up production on Apple-y Ever After. In total it took about five weeks, about a week longer than I planned, not helped by me choking on a slice of potato that rendered shallowing anything difficult for weeks! It was a good thing CherryT was around at the time to perform a Heimlich maneuver on me! Absolute life saver!

A teaser trailer was released mid way through the month.

Once that was done with I went back and finally finished this shot for the Wario Ware GOLD re-Animated collab that I had been chipping away at on-and-off for around three years! It's done pretty nicely on both Newgrounds and YouTube. The full collab should be out sometime next year! Speaking of which, I have another shot reserved that I need to crack on with when I'm less busy with freelance work!

December:

I've started another big animation project that will run until the end of January and hopefully be released in Feb. This was the third project in a row with hardly a break in between and that, on top of the film work, left me feeling pretty burnt out, hence this quick doodle.

Digital Eclipse summed up the birthday cake CherryT made for me best!

I spent the spare time I had at the start of the month to make a video about the latest birthday cake CherryT made me. I also took this opportunity to edit remasters of previous cake videos, including one that was never finished. Here's the playlist for all six of them.

Apple-y Ever After finally released near Xmas, which meant I could publish this poster I made for it. Next month there will be a making of video published by Deadline and so far the film has been quite the hit, currently sitting at around 40K views!

Finally, I published an old Xmas animation from 2010 on YouTube, but because the original video had copyrighted music baked into the sound effects, I remade the soundtrack from scratch!

Rachanee Lumayno grew up always playing pretend and creating things. At her 4th grade birthday party, she wrote a play and made all her friends participate in it. She went on to pursue a degree in photojournalism, followed by an independent music career. As a musician, actor, writer, and online personality, Rachanee embodies the Millenial hustle culture of the twenty-first century.

After four albums, over 1000 live shows, training at Upright Citizens Brigade, performing with Steveie Wonder, J-Hope of BTS, Buzzfeed, College Humor, Google, HBO, video games, podcasts, and narrating over 60 audiobooks, she's still going strong.

Why did you get into the entertainment industry?

I’ve always loved creating. When I was in the fourth grade, for my birthday, I wrote a little script and assigned characters to all my friends, and we put on a play for my family. I wish I knew where that script was, all I remember was that it had something to do with the power of friendship.

What was the first project you worked on?

The first film project I worked on was a student film back at Michigan State University. (Ironically, I worked on it after I graduated). The first project I worked on with someone of note was a docudrama. I auditioned with this dramatic monologue I filmed in my studio. My cat thought I was truly upset and kept popping up in the frame to make sure I was okay. I probably should have re-taped it, but I sent it in as is — and got the job!

What were your goals when you started?

I really wanted to be a series regular on a TV show.

What did you do for a day job while looking for showbiz work?

I used to work at the library! For a book lover like me, it was the best job. If I wasn’t pursuing an entertainment career, I would totally go back.

When did you decide to stop working for free?

I stopped accepting free gigs early on in my career. A friend of mine gave me some great advice that I’ve followed my whole career, and it’s led me to accepting only those jobs that I really love and want to do.

Did you ever embarrass yourself in front of a celebrity?

Ha, yes! I totally have! I worked as background on a TV show a few years ago. The scene was in a nail salon, I was a nail technician, and the two leads were supposed to be getting pedicures.

While the crew was setting things up, I was just spacing out in the general direction of the two leads. They were both so nice — one of them waved at me. I waved back and then said, “Is there actually water in there?” (Meaning the pedi foot bath.) The actress lifted her foot and was like, “No,” and was super cool, but I couldn’t believe that was the first thing out of my mouth.

Where’s your favorite place in Los Angeles?

Hmm, I don’t know if I have a favorite spot, there are so many cool places to explore here! But lately I’ve been obsessed with boba so I’ve been trying every boba shop I can find.

History

William Austin Hamilton Loveland, a railroad entrepreneur, his wife Miranda, and his partner Charles C. Welch, began the urban and suburban development of the neighborhood now known as Lakewood in 1889. They platted a 13-block area along Colfax Avenue west of Denver in eastern Jefferson County. The community of Lakewood didn't have a municipal government until 1969; instead, it relied on several water districts, some fire districts, and the Jefferson County government. The Jefferson County Sheriff was in charge of maintaining order in Lakewood, which also had many volunteer fire departments and some areas without sidewalks or street lights. As a result of widespread opposition to the name "Jefferson City" and concerns that it might be confused with already-existing municipalities in Colorado and Missouri, the name of the city was soon changed by referendum to Lakewood.

William F. Hayden Green Mountain Park

The second-largest park in Lakewood is William Frederick Hayden Park, also known as Green Mountain, with more than 2,400 acres of open space. A challenging network of multi-use trails is present in the park. Green Mountain Trail's 6,800-foot summit features extraordinary and breathtaking views over the Denver metropolitan area to the east and high mountain peaks to the west. It takes less than 2 hours to reach the top on foot. There are brief periods throughout the winter when you can snowshoe the trail. This park, which once housed buffalo, today offers a rich habitat for various animals, such as coyotes, hawks, rattlesnakes, bluebirds, rabbits, mule deer, and the sporadic mountain lion.
