He drew praise for his scene in the film, in which he belittled Eminem’s character with sarcastic lyrics, a gruff voice and an imposing presence.

Nashawn Breedlove, the actor who received acclaim for his scene in the rap-to-riches film “8 Mile,” in which he delivers a tenacious freestyle in a battle against the character portrayed by the rapper Eminem, commanding the gloomy stage with his blustery lyrics and imposing presence, died on Sunday at his home in Newark, N.J. He was 46.

His aunt Claretha Breedlove said that he had died in his sleep but did not provide a cause.

The 2002 film “8 Mile” starred the rapper Eminem, in a story that is loosely based on his life growing up poor in a trailer park on the northern edge of Detroit. The film is renowned for its gritty portrayal of an artist hustling to make it big in the rap world, depicting a community that can be ruthlessly critical of bland artists yet rapturous when a talent twists lyrics into a clever diss or vituperation. It regularly ranks among the best hip-hop movies ever made.

Mr. Breedlove, who in the film portrayed the rapper Lotto, a member of a rival rap group, projected a sense of bravado in his scene with Eminem’s character, Jimmy, who raps as B-Rabbit.

Set in a small, cramped and darkly lit venue, their battle scene shows both characters onstage — Lotto, his arms muscular and voice gruff, visibly more amped up, and Jimmy, his black beanie snugged and eyes downcast, appearing relaxed and even somewhat disinterested.

After calling Jimmy a “coward,” Lotto takes the mic first and injects his rap with mentions of race and Jimmy’s lack of self-worth, all while playfully adding sarcastic notes of politeness, like when he says “I hate to do this” and tells Jimmy to “have a nice day” right after lobbing a profanity at him.

In one verse, Lotto compares Jimmy to the titular character in the midcentury sitcom “Leave It to Beaver,” saying, “Call me your leader, I feel bad that I got to murder that dude from ‘Leave It to Beaver.’”

After finishing his freestyle, Lotto drops the mic and receives resounding cheers from the audience.

Then the mic is handed to Jimmy, who stares at Lotto before charging into his belittling verse that describes Lotto as someone “paranoid” who needs “another steroid.”

Then Jimmy continues to target Lotto’s muscles: “Looking like a cyclone hit you, tank top screaming, ‘Lotto, I don’t fit you!’”

Jimmy is named the winner of the battle, but compared to how others fared against Eminem’s character — including his final opponent in the film, who famously chokes when confronted with Jimmy’s self-deprecating verses — Lotto’s rap stood out for its forceful yet lucid delivery.

Mr. Breedlove also appeared on the soundtrack to the 2001 comedy “The Wash,” which starred Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, according to the music publication HipHopDX.

On Monday, Mickey Factz, a rapper, said on Instagram that Mr. Breedlove would be remembered as “one of the few emcee’s to beat Eminem.”

Nashawn Breedlove was born on Feb. 17, 1977, in Newark. He found his love for music at 9 years old when he joined a children’s choir group at a church in Newark, his family said.

Aside from his work on films, Mr. Breedlove worked in the hip-hop industry as both a rapper, under the name Ox, and a ghostwriter, his family said. He had been signed at one point to a record label in the early 2000s, according to his family, and performed at local shows in North Jersey.

Mr. Breedlove is survived by his son, Zaire Breedlove; his mother, Patricia Breedlove; and two sisters, Latrice Breedlove and Selena Weatherspoon.

Part 1

So Selena is having a bad time

CW: Lady whump, public beating (in an alley), beating, hit with a baseball bat, head trauma, murder mention, cannibalism mention

Of course, unfortunately, she was. 

“Come on,” she huffed. “You punch like a bitch.”

The next hit was harder than the last, and she bit back a grunt of pain. “Fuck you,” the man holding her collar said.

Selena only snorted. “Fuck you.”

She was unceremoniously dropped to the ground. She took a moment to close her eyes and breathe through her pain before trying to sit back up.

“Not so tough now, are you?” growled one of the men standing around her. “Why don’t you use your powers? You gonna bite me?”

With a sigh, Selena propped herself up on her elbows, letting her head loll backwards. “Nah,” she chuckled out. “No point. Yer a civilian.”

“So was my brother!” A hard, unrestrained kick to her stomach sent her flying out from the circle. She couldn’t bite back the cry as she hit the brick wall, crumpling to the ground to catch her breath.

“... He-” Selena coughed as she got to her hands and knees, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. “Neal was a piece of shit-”

“He’s dead because of you!”

“He fucking deserved it,” Selena hissed as she put a hand onto the wall, standing up as best she could. She had to lean against the bricks, but that was okay. “He ruined lives.”

The man clenched his fists, his skin audibly straining against wood. “He was a kid!”

“He was a menace!”

The baseball bat in the man’s hands was finally put to use, cracking mercilessly down on Selena’s leg. She couldn’t keep it up anymore- she fell to the ground on one knee, not even seeing the next swing before it hit her head.

“Whoa. Dude.” One of the men behind him leaned in, hands on his knees so he could see how dazed Selena was on the ground. “You really aren’t holding back, huh?”

“Why the fuck would I!?” he shouted, turning around to face his friends. He pointed his bat towards Selena, only getting louder as he went on. “Do you know what she did? She didn’t just kill him, she fucking ripped him up! She fucking ate him!”

Another of his friends shushed him, putting a finger to his lips. “Quiet down, man! Someone’s gonna call the cops!”

The man with the bat scoffed, tapping his bat to the ground. “Bullshit,” he said. “Like anybody’s gonna call the cops to save Selena Mavis.”

His gaze turned to Selena, who was barely able to register what was going on anymore. She had only rolled onto her side, the pain in her head making it impossible to move further. Her eyes swam as she looked up, able to see the blurry form of him leaning over her.

“Nobody’s going to try and save Vice,” he spat out before raising his bat again.

This was going to be a long night.

Derek squealed and jumped. He turned around to see who had spoken, but nobody was there. “I- Selena?”

Silence.

“You never had to be all quiet, you know?”

Another frightened squeal erupted from Derek as he turned back around. There she was. Selena Mavis, in the flesh. The girl he had been avoiding for almost three years now. He hadn’t planned on changing that anytime soon, but…

“So how was your date?” she asked, crossing her arms. “I hear you and Cora are still going steady. Was the movie great?”

Gulping, Derek clapped his hands together. “Uh– Yeah,” he said, a little louder than he meant to. “Saw it in IMAX. Great film.”

The look on her face made him wish that he still knew her as well as he used to. “Good,” she whispered. “Good.”

They sat for a few moments, staring at each other. Derek waited a few agonizing moments before clearing his throat and stepping back. “Uh– I should be getting home now– It was nice seeing you–”

“Don’t,” Selena said, holding her hand up. “Don’t do that, like we’ll be seeing each other tomorrow like old times. We both know that’s not going to happen.”

Lowering his head, Derek turned away so he wouldn’t have to face her head on. “Look… Selena,” he mumbled. “Why are you here? We… We don’t–”

“Don’t what?” she laughed humorlessly. “Hang out? I noticed. Believe me.

“So why?” she asked. “Why did you start avoiding me? I… I thought we were friends.”

“I–” Derek groaned, running his hands over his face. “Maybe,” he said. “I don’t know, maybe I was scared. Really, really scared.”

“Scared of what?” Selena asked. “Of who? Me?”

Derek’s stare was piercing. “... Yeah,” he finally said. “I think it’s safe to say that I am.”

Her face fell. Somehow, she hadn’t been expecting that. Maybe she wanted him to lie, or to say nothing…

“Why are you surprised?” Derek scoffed. He gestured around at the empty alleyway. “Look what you’ve done. Look what you did back then!”

Selena looked away. “... I’m a different person, now-”

“You killed people, Selena!” Derek practically yelled, struggling to keep his voice down as he stepped unconsciously closer to her. “You killed so many people! Do you fucking understand that?”

Shutting her eyes, Selena took a deep breath. William had said Derek was avoiding the news and all that, she remembered, there was no way he would know how dangerous it was for her to lose control. 

“That’s… of course I do,” she muttered, kicking at a rock. 

“Do you?” Derek asked quietly, moving to try and catch her gaze. “Selena - they’re gone. Gone, gone. No matter what they did to you…”

“You know how much that shit hurt me.” Selena’s voice trembled as she shut her eyes. “They fucking deserved it.”

“No.”

She finally looked back up at Derek. He looked like he didn’t know whether to be scared, or furious, or just… sad. 

“No, Selena. The people that bullied you when we were younger did not deserve to die. None of them.”

Her teeth clenched, and she put a hand to her forehead. It felt wet - it wasn’t raining. She was getting too emotional, she was getting too close to the edge.

“You even killed a mother,” Derek said quietly. “You… I can’t believe you-”

“That kid was safer elsewhere!” Selena yelled, stepping forward. Reaching a tense arm up, she pointed out at the city. “No mom like that, that bully, ever deserves to be around a kid! Never!”

“She grew up, Selena!” Derek shouted back, throwing his arms out to the sides. “This isn’t like a recess fight, you killed her for something that happened years ago!”

“And now it’ll never happen again,” she hissed. “Not from her, and not from any of the other ones.”

“Half of them grew out of it, Selena! At least! You killed people for things they stopped doing, and never did again!”

“That doesn’t mean the hurt goes away! That doesn’t mean they get away with it, they can always go back!”

“So, what, you killed them? Killed them so they never have a chance to redeem themselves!?”

“They already had their chances! What about me, huh!? How about how my life ended up from what they did! They don’t say ‘sorry,’ and they get a nice life and I don’t!? They-”

Selena was cut off. A gust of wind slammed into her like a sledgehammer, and she flew backwards until she rolled to a stop on the ground.

With a groan, she rolled back to her front, pushing herself up with one arm as she wrapped the other around her torso. She definitely had bruises from the concrete, and she would have to be checked over for more.

She lifted her head, her vision beginning to clear as she saw somebody land next to Derek, someone with long blonde hair, touching his arm softly, murmuring to him. Fuck.

“Cora.”

Cora turned around, her eyes landing on Selena. Her eyes turned from that ice and cobalt blue to a full glowing white, and she lifted her hands towards the crumpled figure on the ground. “Don’t come any closer,” she warned. “I won’t let you hurt him.”

A hiss escaped Selena’s teeth as she bared them at Cora. “I would never. Harm. Him.”

“Tell that to Jeff.”

Selena grit her teeth. She could feel them growing sharp. She didn’t care. “Jeff is different,” she growled. “Jeff tricked me, he led me on for years. Derek is-”

“What?” Cora said flatly, stepping closer to her. “Your friend? Someone you trust? You treated everybody like shit and threw them away when they came to help you. You thought you would act differently around Derek?”

“Yes!” Selena shrieked, getting up to her hands and knees. It was starting to rain, droplets falling over her face and hair, mingling with the blank ink down the side of her face. “He’s my friend, he cares, he-”

“You attacked him in his own home!”

“I attacked Will!” Selena screamed, sitting up as she clenched her fists. “I attacked Will, he was there, he’s dangerous, I couldn’t-!”

“STOP!”

The two looked at Derek. His chest was heaving, and he had his hands clutched to his hair. “Just- STOP!” he shouted again, shutting his eyes. He shook his head violently before he looked at Selena again, pointing at her. 

“You-” he swallowed. “We are not friends. Not anymore. Not after you turned your back on everything we were.”

Selena’s heart dropped in her chest. The rain was pouring harder, now, drenching them all and making it hard to hear.

“... Come on,” Cora said quietly, putting a hand onto Derek’s shoulder. “Let’s go home.”

“... Hey…” Selena looked up. She saw her hand reach out to them as they began to turn away, but she couldn’t feel anything but the rain. “Hey, we’re not done-”

“You’ve done enough!” Cora snapped, glaring over her shoulder at the girl. “You’ve hurt him enough! Now go away!”

Selena could only watch numbly as they walked away, Cora covering Derek with her jacket to shield him from the rain. Selena’s own coat was getting soaked, the ends laying on the ground as she knelt there.

“... I…” She couldn’t tell whether or not it was the rain taking her body over with the cold, or the creature taking her body over with the madness again. “... What about me?”

Trembling, she lowered her head to the ground, holding it between her hands like it would explode. She stared wide-eyed at the concrete, propped up on her elbows. The only warmth she could feel now were her tears.

“... He hurt me,” she whispered. “What about me?”

This whole book is one big highlight, but since the question was about the last update, I'm gonna list all the things I enjoyed from it:

1. Damon. Yeah, he's definitely sus, but he's also interesting and I'm looking forward to get to know him better, no matter if he's a villain or not.

2. Liam 💙 Finally we had his backstory from real world and his image with tied hair. Also? His diamond scene was so so adorable and heartwarming, and beautiful, and touching, and...

3. Bert and Rob scene. It was really entertaining and I enjoyed their chemistry a lot.

4. All the clothes and hairstyles were so wonderful 😍 Elves' outfits are simply amazing.

5. The whole catastrophic atmosphere and court scheming is my cup of tea.

6. Selena. All heil the queen! 👑

7. Writing. Alice knows exactly, how to put feelings into words and write meaningful dialouges. Let's give her rapturous ovations 👏

No need to watch the-hers busy work...

Hi Skippy & Friends-Pilgrim here reporting that as I was turning off the TV last nite, Friday, EST, 9-10 PM, low and behold-what did I bump into? A massive piece of propaganda called “Harry and Meghan’s American Dream”. Yep. I only caught the last few minutes thank goodness, because who needs nightmares, but what I saw was just plain old ridiculous! There were 3 female talking heads-addicted to the-hers extra strength Kool-Aid. One in particular with a first name of Kate, looked like a gutter snipe in sneer mode. Quite awful actually in the name of all authentic reporters. They showed their very old photos including their sham of a wedding with short bursts of erroneous content such as buying into a growing family con; the horrid “color” concerns; having zero rights, forcing them to run for freedom-(what are we tapping into here-slaves from the south fleeing for freedom?); the African Rev. Tutu show; included a glimpse of the March OW interview and then concluded with joyous rapture saying, “they are on cloud 9, happier than they have ever been!” The most interesting thing and I would say skip the entire fake, pithy, ignorant content of the worthless show and go directly to the credits where they show what we uncovered last year! I was so excited to report this…perhaps I am a month late if so I apologize. They listed People magazine, The C.W. (CBS Corp., Warner Bros.) and produced by Celebrity Page/Meredith Corp…who owns People magazine-A co-production between Meredith Corporation, Green Couch Entertainment and Rapture Productions. Okay full disclosure? American Horror is one of those episodes I Cannot Watch Again as someone in the middle of Amish/Mennonite country where denying medical attention under the guise of it being God's will is something I hear too much about. It hits religious trauma but not in the fun sexy way like Houses of the Holy or Rapture. BUT.

I think that Claire would relate to Magda way too much. Like, her family wasn't as crazy about the whole religion thing as Magda's but she can definitely relate because Bad Mom's (nowhere near as bad as Magda's) and religious trauma. I also think that whatever grace Cas left in Claire, she thinks of it as an abomination, something that makes her unclean, and there's more than a little brain damage.

So, Claire would be her big sister and INSIST on Jody taking her in and doesn't hear any different about her accidentally killing people because Claire herself was way past some people's definition of "troubled child", and she did all of that willingly. Also it would obviously be a season 2 Sam and Dean dynamic, same age gap, Magda with her psychic powers, Claire equipped with not much aside from Tamiel's sword (and angel radio) and insisting on protecting her from everything out there and talking her down from internal monsterhood

All Points East 2021 review: generations collide to end the summer in fervent style

August 30, Victoria Park: Foals and Bombay Bicycle Club cap off a day of raucous energy and celebration in London By Will Richards  31st August 2021 

Just as 2021’s delayed festival season felt like it was finding its feet, summer is rolling to what feels like a premature close.

Every single event that has been able to open its gates over the last month has brought a fervent, feverish energy with it, with fans not only making up for lost time, but scrambling to savour every last drop before the season disappears. Maybe it’s this feeling – as well as the presence of thousands of revellers travelling back from a weekend at Reading Festival to continue the party for one more day – that makes the final day of All Points East 2021 feel like a proper celebration.

While the previous three days of All Points East have seen progressive headline bookings, giving London Grammar, Jorja Smith, Bicep and Kano their biggest shows to date, today’s finale has the whiff of a nostalgia fest for millennials, with Bombay Bicycle Club topping the bill alongside Foals: who air plenty of rarer cuts from their 2010 album ‘Total Life Forever’ as a belated 10th birthday live outing.

Though nostalgia feels prevalent in the night’s pair of closing sets, neither Foals nor Bombay Bicycle Club are intent on just looking backwards. For the former, latter day singles ‘Carry Me’ and ‘Eat, Sleep, Wake (Nothing But You’) feel like the set’s defining moments, while Rae Morris joins them for a cover of Selena Gomez’s ‘Lose You To Love Me’ and their own track ‘Luna’.

By the time the London four-piece are joined by the London School of Samba to add flair to a rapturous performance of ‘Always Like This’, the band and crowd are positively beaming together. After five years defined by burnout and an ensuing hiatus, Bombay are now clearly having the most fun of their entire career, and it rubs off on the giddy thousands in attendance.

It’s then left to Foals to rubber-stamp a Bank Holiday Monday of chaos and jubilation, and who better to act as the growling, feral conductor than Yannis Philippakis, on fierce form tonight. The band’s 90-minute set has all the requisite festival anthems, while they also give a number of rarities from 2010 second album ‘Total Life Forever’ a live airing, and celebrate their ever-growing musical legacy.

On days like this, Yannis tells the crowd before ‘Spanish Sahara’, “we get to feel what it is to be human again.” A few minutes later, as the track avalanches towards chaos, he invites the crowd to “forget the horror here” in a visceral, communal exorcism – it’s a slice of light to carry with us through the looming winter months. The apartment was quiet, save for Stefan’s soft snoring. He was just sitting on the couch, arm over his face to block the sunlight. He’d been out for a while when the door swung open. 

“I’m home!” Ryan called out, fumbling to get his key out of the lock. “I brought groceries!”

Blinking awake, Stefan wearily lowered his arm. “... Groceries?” he muttered. “We were out of things?”

Ryan snorted as he kicked the door closed behind him. “Yeah? There was no fresh food. No veggies.”

Stefan rolled his eyes as he stood up, meandering over to the table to help Ryan put the food away. “There’s dried vegetables in ramen. It counts.”

“Fresh veggies,” Ryan insisted as he opened the fridge. He looked back over his shoulder. “Selena! C’mere!”

Sighing, Stefan shoved a bunch of bananas next to the carrots in the fridge. “Look at us, being all domestic,” he cooed somewhat mockingly. “Did you ever think we’d end up like this after high school?”

“Actually?” Ryan paused for a second. “... Yeah, no. All I can think of is how many times you tried to shoot me.”

After some laughter and a few minutes of silence, Ryan looked up. “Hey, is she home?” he asked. “I don’t hear her.”

Stefan frowned, leaning back to look into the hallway. “Selena!”

“Do you think she’s out?” Ryan asked. “Again?”

Pressing his lips together, Stefan shook his head. “She’s got to be, if she’s not coming for food.”

Ryan slapped the paper bags off of the table towards the recycling, walking quickly to the door. “We gotta go find her-”

“Slow down, slow down,” Stefan called out, starting to jog to the bedroom. “At least let me get my things, don’t run off without me.”

Nodding, Ryan waited anxiously at the door, hand on the doorknob and bouncing on his feet. Who knew how long she’d been gone, or where she was? What if she was hurt?
