Obsidian

Tick-tap-tick-tap-tick-tap… the clock mocks me from the wall, counting away the seconds, as I impatiently tap my fingers. Sigh. It’s 10:07. He's not coming. I grab my phone, starting a text for the fourth time, then discarding it. If he doesn’t want to come, I shouldn’t push it. I’ll talk to him tomorrow. But what if… Marlon’s parting words when he stopped me outside the mine prick at the back of my mind. “Watch your back out there, guild members have reported an unusual number of nuisance monsters near town.” I’ll visit Raz tomorrow and ask what he knows. I smile to myself, he hates when I call him that. Disrespectful, I believe he said. Really his name is too long. I just don’t have time for it. 

Screw it. Better to move than sit here wondering. I scribble a hasty note for my boyfriend, Sebastian, in case he does come by before I get back and head for the door, leaning back mid-way through to snatch my dagger off the wall. My feet carry me towards the well worn trail leading to the carpenter’s shop as I flip the dagger hand to hand, watching the obsidian blade catch the moonlight. It’s a beautiful knife, Seb’s gift for my last birthday, he carved it himself and honed the edge to razor sharpness. The handle fits my hand perfectly, the balance true. 

Nothing seems unusual, the night chorus of frogs and insects soothes my ears, a gentle evening breeze lifting my hair. I probably should have grabbed my jacket, the air is decidedly crisp, leaves fluttering down from the trees. I pass my Nexus, choosing to walk the path. If Seb was coming, it would be this way. A light shimmer dances over my skin as I pass the barrier surrounding my farm. Instantly the pleasant night sounds cease and I pause… this isn’t right. Something brushes past my ear… shit… cave bat. I freeze in place, closing my eyes and focusing on the air around me. Still, nearly stagnant. There it is, a slight vibration. I hold my dagger in a edge-up grip… wait… wait… flicking the dagger upwards, I drop to a crouch in one fluid motion, feeling slight resistance as the knife finds its mark… then the soft thud of a bat near my feet. 

“Ugh!! Get off me you disgusting… shit!!” A voice from further down the track, followed by sounds of shuffling feet and the squish of slimes.

Seb? Before I can think I race down the path, dodging branches and avoiding tree roots by memory and a sense for the green. I pull up sharply, taking in the scene before me. Seb’s shadowy form, crouched and holding a long branch like a staff, keeping a trio of voracious slimes at bay, two dead at his feet. The others bouncing and dodging in a dizzying frenzy, determined to reach the warm, energy-filled body behind the swinging branch. Armed with only a dagger, this will not be easy, I’ll have to get close. No time for strategy, I leap ahead, appearing from the shadows like a spirit, skidding into a spinning slash, dispatching the first slime and disorienting the other two. “Raven, go left!” I duck and roll to the side, keeping my arms tight to my body to avoid any contact with the slimes or other hazards. 

Seb swings his makeshift staff, I feel the displaced air as it flies inches above my head and hear the thud of impact. The startled slime squeaks at the blow, bouncing directly towards me as a quick thrust of my dagger sends it on to the next life. One more. “Dammit! Get off you freakin’-“ Shit, I forgot Seb can’t see in the dark like I can. The slime is behind him, just out of his view. “Seb, down!” He drops and I leap over him, touching his back to orient my body, descending on the final slime from above, making quick work of it at the edge of my blade. Seb spins towards me, grabbing my arm. “Raven, are you-,” I press my fingers to his lips, closing my eyes and listening… reaching out into the night, searching for any sign of unusual movement. Seconds tick past, nothing. I suck in a shaky breath and drop my hand, turning my attention to Seb. He’s panting slightly, eyes wide, adrenaline pumping, causing his hands to twitch. 

“They’re gone, let’s go,” I unceremoniously clasp his hand, pulling him towards the farm and safety. He pauses to snatch a gym bag and follows, right on my heels. As we approach the Nexus, I glance back at Seb. His hoodie disheveled, but undamaged, his pants… coated in slime. “Seb, take off your pants.”

“Wh-what? Now? Yeah they’re nasty but…” 

“I’m serious, you have to get rid of them, that coating of slime will attract more monsters and those jeans are not crossing the barrier here. If slimes start popping up on the farm, it’ll take me weeks to get rid of them. Besides, that crud doesn’t come off. You can scrub those jeans as much as you want, they’ll never get clean. Believe me, speaking from experience.” I take a breath and touch Seb’s cheek. “Please, trust me. Do you have clothes in your bag?”

He nods. “Well… yeah, but… these jeans were clean this morning, I was planning to wear them again tomorrow. The only pants I brought are… those ones. You know.” His mouth twitches and I can’t help but chuckle.

“You mean you only brought your frog pajamas? Heh! Well, it’s not far, nobody is going to see you. Quick, get those nasty things off and throw them over the fence there, I’ll grab them tomorrow and add them to the burn pile.” Seb quickly turns away, pulling off the slime-coated jeans, careful to avoid getting the stinking goo on his hands. He tosses them away, and I can’t help but watch him in his hoodie and boxers. He pulls on the frog pants, they’re very thin and worn, wildly inappropriate for a cold night in the woods.

“Okay, c’mon, I’m freezing here!” I grin and take his hand, stepping through the barrier and striding quickly towards the house. 

I push open the front door and we step inside, Seb visibly relieved to be in the relative safety of the cabin walls. “Damn. Raven, you showed up just in time, I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t…” his voice fades away, and he looks down at the floor. 

“You took out two of those things before I even got there, but I’m glad I came to find you. Wait here, first things first.” I grab a first aid kit from the shelf by the door. “Inspection time. Even if you’re not badly injured, a small abrasion can get infected if slime touches it.” I unzip his hoodie, pulling it off, checking his arms for any scrapes or scratches. All clear. I lift up the back of his shirt, one small abrasion on his lower back. Seb hisses and I wince in sympathy as I gently spread the disinfecting ointment on the scrape. It’s not bad, barely bleeding, but with slimes you don’t take chances. “Sorry, almost done… okay. That’s it.” I quickly check over the rest of him, pulling up his loose pant legs, smiling at the cute little frogs scampering around the fabric. It would have been tragic if they’d gotten slimed. 

Seb’s breathing has calmed, he seems to have recovered from the ordeal. “Hey Raven, I made it to your house, it’s not midnight yet so I’m not too late.” He chuckles, standing to pull me into his arms. I sigh and hold him close. I blew off Seb’s concerns about the slimes, but he was right. That could have gone tragically wrong.

RWBY Volume 7 Episode 6: A Night Off Thoughts

Training and Semblances

It’s nice to see all the kids together, especially Oscar- who has his own scroll. After so little screentime of him in the past three-four volumes, I take what I can get but that doesn’t mean I’m not annoyed by it.

Even so, the comment on Oscar not having his semblance yet reminds me of Volume 5 when Jaune remarked he had yet to unlock his either. And considering that Amity Arena was going to put Oscar AND Oz in after Volume 7… yeah, I bet Oscar’s semblance is gonna make them all jealous. Personal headcanon is that it’s either pure magic, shamanic abilities (like Astral Projection) or something like One For All.

As for Ruby’s petal burst, I saw a post speculating that it was more teleportation and I am inclined to that theory myself. As for Ren, his is to mask emotions, but can he sense other emotions as well like a ninja? Is that what he was doing before Ironwood came in? Or is this his semblance evolving further?

Free Time

Ironwood ordering the kids to have freetime because they’ve all been working nonstop since they got there is definitely well-earned.

Oscar’s happy smile when Weiss accepted going to the movies with him and Jaune is the most precious thing ever. This child deserves to be happy and act like a fourteen-year old, not dealing with this saving the world nonsense. And Jaune is more than happy to provide that while trying to be a good friend/older brother figure. Something I desperately need after Volume 6 episode 8.

And as Jaune is asking Weiss (her done as shit “Yup” was great XD) Oscar immediately looked over to Ruby but her expression was mostly hidden. But from Oscar’s look of concern, I don’t like how that bodes. We still have yet to see these two talk aside from a flashback and there’s still a great deal of distance between the two despite earlier.

Blake and Yang acting like the fucking dorks in love that they are and not worrying about this shit or the goatman who traumatized them both at least for now is something I’m happy to have. I know some people have complaints over the two constantly spending time together… but the two have been separated from each other for nearly a year and have barely been able to spend time NOT fighting for their lives or confronted with painful information. And from the teasing from before… there is no way there’s not romantic tension between them.

However, one @laulink does bring up a point about the group beginning to splinter because the two only have eyes for each other at the moment, even if I do understand why and am all for the two being able to date without all this drama.

I also wonder if STRQ went through this when Raven and Tai began dating: two grouping into a unit and the other two not willing to be a third wheel to them?

A Loophole

I was not expecting Ruby to bring up Oz or Salem with Nora and Ren, and Nora immediately spotting the loophole in Jinn’s story gave me such vindication. I had the personal headcanon before Volume 7 aired that if anyone were to spot this, it would be Nora (though in my head I pictured her far more excited). I just didn’t think it would play out. Good on that then.

Ruby’s expression after this looks so sad, so unsure. Part of me believes it’s because she’s unsure and has no way of checking without acknowledging Oz is gone or using the last question on the Relic. But part of me also thinks it might be her thinking of how much pain the group was in and how they reacted afterwards; if they had stopped to think of that, then perhaps things could be different.

They could have told Ironwood the truth fully with that and maybe things wouldn’t be as they are now, with them all lying through their teeth.

Ren’s conflict and Nora’s kiss

Looks like I was right: Ren is trying to focus on the mission, on training, on getting stronger, because of how much is happening. But Nora wants to focus on them; this is all incredibly new to her because Ren didn’t have a problem with her affections after Volume 4’s finale.

And while I can understand this, he’s also coming off as harsh in shutting down or ignoring Nora, especially when she’s trying to reach out to him. “Trust love” is in the themesong and while focusing on “taking action” isn’t bad in of itself and trying to improve himself so he’s not weak… Ren is hurting himself and the ones he loves.

And while we finally get the patented Renora kiss, I couldn’t find myself truly happy for that not being resolved, for Ren being pulled into Nora’s kiss before he could finish

Penny Framed

Abridged! Perfect Cell: Mmm, this has aged well.

Yeah, there is no way that that election wasn’t rigged.

So many people, myself included, thought Watts hacking Penny was the worst thing that could happen to her and was all but inevitable.

Yet somehow, he managed to do something even more despicable. In the act of Tyrian murdering several people (including some of the thirsty moms, confirmed to have left children orphans) in the cover of darkness and luring Penny onto the stage just in time to reveal Jacques had won…

Damn, that is just cruel and twisted.

Now, Mantle is in an even worse state as more and more grimm swarm the city and Penny is AWOL.

Final Thoughts

Things are only going to get worse and I knew it was going to get worse, but I didn’t think it would be this soon.

I worry for Blake and Yang fighting Robyn, I worry for Jaune, Weiss and Oscar out there with Tyrian out there; Tyrian has interest in Jaune and Oscar and Weiss’ story allusions both involve poison (Snow White and the Little Prince)

They split bills often but half of the time they just badger edgeworth into taking them out to eat

Kay goes absolutely ham on the oven door and breaks the handle off. Maya will always be on the trombone because of this image:

Kayyyyy. I have a little headcanon that she befriends crows and ravens and other birds easily so she’s got at least one animal buddy around somewhere

-who leaves the bathroom door open

They both kinda just leave it open tbh. Maya wouldn’t want the door closed because she worries someone could sneak in

-who tells the 'dad jokes'

They both tell them to each other, resulting in an obnoxious chain of dad jokes that leaks into all of their conversations

I feel like maybe maya? Neither of them are at the point where they’re actively thinking of starting a family yet, but maya’s really good with kids so there’s that

Kay’s a feral creature that’s always out and about visiting friends and stealing the truth, but maya actually travels between her home village and nick’s office as well as overseas to khura’in so she wins here in the more traditional sense

-who spends more cash

MAYA. Her burger munching can really rack up the bills sometimes! Kay is more conservative with her money on the other hand

-who buys the things in infomercials

I feel like kay would fall in love with any product she feels she could use as a thief

-who draws in the dust on their cars

Neither of them have a license so they draw stupid pictures on edgeworth’s rear window

-who starts the snowball fights

Bold of you to assume that in chilly weather they aren’t both prepared to throw down at any moment

-who throws away the directions to things

Maya throws all the directions away out of pure hubris and ends up having to use YouTube tutorials. Kay sometimes keeps hers but she can figure out things pretty intuitively and doesn’t usually need manuals or instruction booklets

-who puts up holiday decor

Maya helps decorate the WAA/wright & co law offices consistently every year so probably her but kay joins in too. She helps gumshoe make the precinct nice and festive

If you’re talking about a hypothetical home they would own tho they would probably just have a decently sized and decorated christmas tree and a couple of stockings hanging up somewhere. They’re more focused on making and enjoying some tasty holiday treats and spending time with friends and family

SLBP “The Bride’s Memories, Fleeting as Tears in Rain” Event Review

Props to Voltage for exploring past the traditional happily ever after! This event has been a little surprising to me in several ways - first, I didn’t expect it to ever exist, and second, well...let’s just say there is no correlation between how much I like a character and how good I thought their stories were, lol. My personal ranking, from least to most fave:

In Masamune’s ES, Hideyoshi and the Hojo clan are preparing to go to war against each other. Both of them want the Date clan to help...and both of them want MC as a hostage as well. WTF? The retainers are split, Masamune’s obviously reluctant to do anything, and MC ends up getting chloroformed by Hojo sympathizers at some point, only for M to conveniently save the day at the last second. She convinces M she wants to be a hostage, and the story ends up with MC in a palanquin, on her way to...somewhere.

My tolerance for unrealistic bullshit in SLBP stories is pretty high, but this story was just too damn much, lmao. Masamune clearly has the position of power here as the third party...can’t he just declare that he’ll ally himself to the first clan to rescind their hostage demand?! Hideyoshi and Masamune seemed to get along ok in M’s Act 2...I’m sure the guy could be made to see reason. I did like the beginning scene where Masamune strokes MC’s hair and lets her sleep in, but to be very honest I kind of thought the rest of the story was crap. ^_^

Personal enjoyment: 1/10

In Kojuro’s ES, he and MC decide to take care of a boy from the enemy Ashina clan who’s lost his memories (not sure why they couldn’t have just watched him from a distance, tbh). Except then the whole town becomes convinced that said boy is Kojuro’s “bastard” child from before MC, and gets super mad at him! I’m sure this is exactly how people in ancient Japan would’ve reacted to a powerful man’s extramarital child, lol. In the end, boy regains his memories, the Ashina clan learns about him and declares war with the Date clan over the “hostage” they imprisoned, and that’s that. 😂

I mean... I’m glad the story didn’t end with some bullshit reason to separate K from MC?! Besides that, I’m not really sure what the point of this whole ES was. The plot was pretty boring imho, and Kojuro was absent/distant/not romantic for a large part of it. I’m not sure why MC was so insistent that Kojuro be nice to an enemy child, either. Also I saw that trap coming from a mile away once Kojuro mentioned the Ashina were plotting something, and I can’t say I’m super excited to see how this story plays out.

Personal enjoyment: 2/10

Nobunaga spends most of his ES humiliating his new retainer Murashige. From forcing Murashige to eat mochi directly off his sword (not an innuendo!!) to insulting his young son’s drawing of him to giving a military leadership position to Hideyoshi when Murashige made the most strategic sense, one really starts to wonder how Oda “no people skills” Nobunaga was ever able to get that close to Divine Rule in the first place, lol. In any case, to nobody’s surprise Murashige ends up betraying Nobunaga at a crucial moment, and Nobunaga ends up divorcing MC (this again?! 😂) after a night of astounding sex.

Things I did like about this route: Nobunaga secretly being nice to the son when he thinks nobody’s watching. That sex scene. Nobunaga getting pissed with Murashige claiming his young wife is the most beautiful woman in world (of course, lmao). Things I didn’t love so much: Nobunaga’s total lack of communication regarding why he does the shit he does! I bet we’re going to find out during the sequel that Nobunaga knew all along that Murashige was suspicious. ^_^

Personal enjoyment: 6/10

After saving the road to a neighboring province from kidnappers and murderers, Yukimura truly proves himself to be the hero we all know he is in his ES! There isn’t too much plot beyond that, but this story is full of cute/hilarious moments instead, such as the poor idiot freaking out when he learns that MC’s gravely injured herself after several rounds of telephone, lmao (spoiler: she just cut herself, a little, while cooking). There’s also a bit of drama/angst when the neighboring province tries to poach Y for a few months to handle some problem I don’t remember and he’s reluctant to leave MC, but he eventually does leave, only to quash said problem... and have a cliff fall on him. !!

This story was definitely super light on the plot, lol. But no plot is better than a bad plot, imho! I did really like the little slice of life moments we got between MC and Yukimura, such as his adorable reaction to MC figuring out how to carve a turnip chrysanthemum ^_^ These two dorks are so in love and impressed with each other. I thought it was super sweet!! Best quote: “I cannot put anything or anyone else before you, even in my thoughts.”

Personal enjoyment: 7/10

Mitsuhide’s ES is a cute little treat. Here, the poor guy’s been obviously overworking himself, to the point of not having time to accept MC’s care/food (!). And in the meanwhile, people in town have been collapsing for mysterious reasons! After M himself also passes out, he realizes the townsfolk have been suffering from malnutrition after switching from farming to fishing. While MC teaches them how to cook veggies with the fish (lol), he saves the day by establishing a vegetable/fish trading route, and everyone lives happily ever after! ...Except not, because MC finds the guy coughing BLOOD. Uh oh.

I thought the plot was a little silly (do the townsfolk really need some uppity city girl teaching them how to cook vegetables?! lmao), but it was nonetheless a lovely, self-contained, and interesting read! The real star of this story was definitely Mitsuhide himself, who apart from being an overworked sweetheart for the whole ES, also busted out the single best line of dialogue in this event: “When I eat your food...that’s how I know I am home.” Awww 😍 I’m really hoping we learn his illness isn’t terminal in the sequel!

Personal enjoyment: 8/10

Saizo’s story is one of the more adventure-filled ones! Here, the ninja’s been sent alongside Yukimura on a diplomatic mission to one of their more remote territories/villages. Unfortunately, the son of the village elder holds a grudge against Saizo due to murder (understandable). Said son also kidnaps MC and tries to rape her (less understandable!), but of course, Saizo saves the day. MC talks S down from killing the guy, but the ungrateful bastard claims Saizo’s attacked him and has him arrested...! Yikes.

This story was delightfully dramatic, and I really enjoyed it. Not to mention, Saizo was sweeter than I’ve ever seen him before! From buying MC a cord she was eyeing to resting in her lap to talking in the onsen with her to acknowledging that MC’s made him less murderous, this guy showed that he definitely is capable of doing the romance thing when he wants to. Not to mention, his saving MC scene was super badass (The ravens have come...and so has he)!! I’m quite curious to see what’ll happen in the sequel!

Personal enjoyment: 9/10

I may not have loved every story in this latest event (cough Date clan), but every CG looks so good, like wow! My favorite is definitely Nobunaga’s ;)

Hello lovely mutual! Can you please write a sasusaku oneshot of Sasuke kissing Sakura by surprise while she's reading?

My dear mutual, I hope you enjoy this little one! College has been killing me lately, but it will never be wrong enough to destroy my SasuSaku heart!! (sorry dor taking so long >.<)

title: Déjà vu.summary: It’s that time of the year again. The time when he realizes Haruno Sakura is, perhaps, even more annoying than when they were younger. The day she never seems to remember. Luckily, there’s one, normal person in her life right now.

She looked incredibly serene at that moment. Emerald eyes focused as they read every word in front of them, pink lips forming a thin line as she signed a few pages and fingers slightly brushing the rim of her coffee mug as she continued to make her way through another stack of documents. Papers were scattered all around the table as well as a mix of medical records and pathology scrolls, and he could easily tell there were some pens lost in the middle of that organized mess she usually makes while taking care of her daily share of paperwork. There were barely any sounds echoing through the walls of her apartment, and even if the silence wouldn’t normally bother him, Uchiha Sasuke couldn’t be more annoyed at the scene in front of him.

That idiot, he thought. She had done it again.

As he watched her from her couch with those intense eyes of his, the raven haired boy had no doubt in his mind that Sakura had forgotten what day it was again. It was probably the third time in a row already, and right now, not even the Uchiha could take that lack of common sense from her. Not anymore.

Not this year, when they were finally together, and— according to that dobe— it was now his responsibility as her boyfriend to make sure the pinkette’s workaholic tendencies didn’t keep her from being a decent human being.

As her boyfriend, it was now his responsibility to make sure she remembered her own birthday.

Even if he had to be a little rude to do so.

After he finally gave up on the idea that she would somehow surprise him by suddenly remembering her own day, Sasuke closed the book he had been pretending to read since she got home and walked over to her. He found himself a seat across from her in the middle of all those papers, and had she spared a glance at him, Sakura would’ve found a pair of mismatched eyes judging every cell of her body.

“ You forgot it again.” He stated, his voice calm as ever as he was clearly condemning her actions.

“ Well…” She started, not taking her eyes from her papers as she remained unaltered by his clearly condemning words. “ Since nothing comes to mind even after your words, it’s safe to say you’re right, Sasuke-kun. I forgot.”

“ Don’t you even wanna try remembering it?”

“ Not really. I’m kinda busy, as you can see, and it’s not like it’s an emergency or anything.”

“ Oh, and how can you possibly know that if you don’t even know what you forgot?”

“ That’s pretty easy to tell, actually.” Sakura finally looked up at him, her ever-so-green eyes calm and serene, as she was clearly not bothered by whatever it was that she had forgotten. “ You see, you’re here, safe and healthy. No one barged in through the front door telling me either Naruto or Kakashi-sensei aren’t okay, so I assume they’re also safe and healthy. There’s a closed box somewhere in the kitchen from my parents that arrived a few hours ago, so I also can assume they’re safe and healthy. Tsunade-sama is also safe and healthy since Shizune-san didn’t call me or anything, and the village is clearly not on fire… So, yeah, whatever it may be that I forgot, it’s not an emergency, therefore, it’s not more important than these papers.”

The way her expression didn’t change as she said all those things slowly grew on him. His hand turned into a fist, words got caught up in his throat and he swore he had to count up to thirty not to burn down all those papers with his Amaterasu. At that moment, as she slowly returned to her work without further explanation, Sasuke didn’t really know what to do to put some sense into her. He knew he couldn’t scream, for her neighbors would start knocking on the door worried about her. He wanted to shake her stubborn head— and damn it!

He wanted to smack a calendar on the table and scream that she was becoming one year older on that very day and that she was supposed to be a normal person and celebrate it with her loved ones and cake!

Of all the things the pinkette could’ve become during the three years he was away, a medical ninja with no sense of normality was the last thing he would’ve placed his bets on. At first, those new traits of hers were really appealing, and seeing how professional she looked even did things to him he couldn’t really name. She got rid of that childish personality of hers and he was really proud to see her focusing on her training now.

The Uchiha was proud of the woman she became. Though, as he began to spend more time at the village and with her, he realized the ninja world did not need an emotionally dense Haruno Sakura.

Honestly, all those technical terms and medical priorities made of her an incredibly stoic and messed adult. Always running late to places, barely getting any food or sleep; and constantly worrying about the people she loves while holding that beautiful smile on her face.

Tch. She’s so, freaking responsible. He really wonders where all that strictness came from considering her master’s personal records.

That is certainly not the girl he left behind on that tragic night all those years ago. She’s no longer that girl he once fell in love with during the spring of his troubled youth. She’s smarter, stronger and a lot braver than she used to be, and he doubts he could ever not be captivated by how she’s flourished.

Sakura has become a formidable woman, there’s no denying that.

But at times like those, when her emotional density is flourishing, Sasuke knows she’s still that same, annoying girl as before. The only diference is that, now, apart from her incredible skills and that twisted sense of normal, he’s there to take care of her. Even if she’s more than capable of taking care of everything, he’s finally there to make sure someone will take good care of her.

And that, of course, means reminding her of the existence important things that are not related to her job.

Once he realized she was not going to leave her spot so soon, Sasuke stood up from his place and took a few steps until he was standing next to her. His eyes were looking down at her, and if anything, he couldn’t help but love the way those short, pink strands refused to stay tucked behind her ear. She seemed incredibly focused based on those angry highlights, and were that any other day, he swore he would’ve let her finish whatever that was that she was working on.

Too bad for her that it was her birthday.

“ Sakura.” He said, almost as a whisper, immediately attracting her attention. She turned her face up to meet his, her hair falling a little to the side. Judging by how fast she turned, it was possible to tell the pinkette was about to offer him a snarky comment regarding his unusual impatience, however, before she could even open her mouth, his lips were already on hers.

Green eyes widened, hearts skipped a beat and her mind was clouded by that unexpected kiss initiated by her stoic boyfriend. The contact was as soft and intimate as the first time, and since he had to lean down, his jet black hair was falling forward and brushing her cheeks. It was a calm, chaste kiss, but judging by her flushed face, it felt a lot more than that.

Any kiss between them always feels a lot more than that.

“ W-What was that for?!”

“ Hn.” He smirked, taking a few steps towards the fridge so he could drink some water. “ Can’t I just kiss my girlfriend for no reason?“

” No, you can’t!” She stood up, still flushed and with her face growing a bit angry due to curiosity. “ I mean, yes, you can, but that’s not something you would do without a very good reason!”

“ Aah… You’re right. There’s a reason for that and it has something to do with what you forgot.”

“ You have got to be kidding me!” She whimpered, pouting like a small child. “ What could it be so important for you to actually stop what you’re doing to tease me?! Is it our anniversary or something?!”

“ Well….” He started, enjoying that situation more than he probably should. “ You can say so. Though you don’t need to know, right? It’s not like it’s an emergency.”

“ I really hate you right now, Sasuke-kun.” She glared at him, hands crossed over her chest and eyebrows knitted together. “ This is so unfair, shannarou!”

“ Are you sure you don’t even wanna try finding out?”

“ Can’t you at least give me a hint?”

“ No. You’re not a child.”

“ Meany… Tch.” She sighed impatiently, running her fingers through her pink locks and knowing very well that she was playing right into his game. “ What could it possibly be?! I don’t know what on earth is supposed to happen on March—“ Her eyes suddenly widened, as if a really cold breeze hit her face. Bingo, he thought, as her entire expression showed him that, at last, she had remembered about the day she was born “ …28. Oh… Are you seriously making such a mess just because of my birthday?!”

“ Tch, You’re impossible… Do you seriously not see any problem in forgetting your own birthday?”

“ Not really…. It’s not the first time, and it probably won’t be the last, but…” She smiled softly, clearly not caring about the whole point of this conversation anymore. “ If it will make you kiss me like that again every year, then I’m fine with that.”

A chuckle escaped her lips, and at that moment, the Uchiha didn’t know if he wanted to scold her for being so dense or if he wanted to just kiss her again for being that cute. His girlfriend can really be a dork sometimes, and even if he will never admit it out loud, he loves that pure side of hers.

It’s annoying and incredibly troublesome, but it’s who she is and he would never change anything about her.

Not even if he wanted to, Haruno Sakura could never be changed.

And surprisingly, he’s glad about that.

“ You’re really annoying, Sakura.“

“What did you just say, you ba—“ Her phrase was suddenly cut by the sight of a blue, flying box coming towards her. She managed to catch before it hit the floor, and by the time the small object was safe in her hands, her boyfriend was already by the door putting on his shoes. “W-Wait! Where are you going!? And what is this?”

“ You see… ” He turned to her, his face calm and serene as he had clearly given up on hoping his girlfriend would be able to connect the normal dots of life. “ I’m heading out to get a cake and some drinks like Naruto asked me to. There are a few people coming over later today, so could you please prepare everything around here?“

“ What?! But I still have work to do! There are still all those papers to read, those documents to sign and—“

“ That’s not my problem. That Dobe is your friend and he has invited a few people over. They’re coming to celebrate with you, whether you like it or not, so you better be ready by the time they get here.”

“…. Okay. And what about—”

“ The box? It’s called a birthday present. Open and find out what it is. I’m heading out now but I’ll be home soon. Do you need anything?“

” Actually….” She tagged along, standing closer, but not close enough to reach out and touch him.

“ What is it, Sakura?”

“ Thank you, Sasuke-kun…" She smiled softly, clutching the small box to her heart. “ Thank you.”

“ Hn.” He turned around, hiding a small smile from her. That girl…. She really is annoying. “ You’re welcome. It is your birthday, after all.”

RWBY Sedoretu AU

taiyang was the only morning on a team full of evenings. he fell for all three of them. this seems like a problem, except, conveniently, raven and qrow are siblings! so if tai, summer, and qrow get married with a nice morning moiety girl, then they can add raven in as an aunt, and boom, everything is solved.

either they never find a morning moiety girl, or she runs off with raven, or she dies in combat, or something, idk. i don’t have a canon character to put in that spot. the point is, we’ve got tai and qrow as the only ones left from their sedoretu, with two evening daughters. (technically, i think ki’o society would consider them cousins? even though they still have the same dad? idfk. they’re raised as sisters.)

so we’ve got ruby and yang, two evening girls, paired up with weiss and blake, two morning girls. (blake and yang bond over everyone assuming that they’re the opposite moiety of what they actually are - what do you mean the golden sunny little dragon is evening and the shadowy black cat ninja is morning???) everyone’s like, oh yeah, team rwby’s totally gonna be a sedoretu, i mean, look at them. ruby and weiss are gay for each other, blake and yang are gay for each other, yang and weiss are gay for each other - and maybe ruby and blake aren’t there yet but they’ll get there. this is like, almost a foregone conclusion.

except ruby kinda likes this girl penny, which first gets her started on maybe not wanting this sort of pre-made sedoretu set out for her? and while she’s pretty sure she does like weiss, she just doesn’t have that romantic of feelings for blake. but she figures she might, in time. and after all, except for the ladybug thing, they make a great sedoretu, just like they make a great team!

team jnpr is pretty much a textbook sedoretu. jaune and nora are morning, pyrrha and ren are evening. ren and nora have been looking for a couple like them for ages, and boom, they get paired up with these two dorks at beacon. it was perfect.

and then the fall of beacon happened.

penny and pyrrha are dead. ruby goes off with team rnjr, and things are weird because she’s an evening girl just like pyrrha who they just lost, and it’s like, they couldn’t have found a more serendipitous fit to complete their sedoretu but it’s just too soon after pyrrha’s death and everything is a mess. besides, ruby’s gonna be in team rwby’s sedoretu, right?

and then we get to volume 6. and now with ilia (another evening girl) along for the ride, things start getting really weird, because blake might be starting to return her feelings? and weiss and ilia, though they initially hate each other, might actually like each other a lot?

so then we get a beautiful conversation where ilia goes up to ruby and she’s like, “look, i kind of have a thing for the two morning girls in your sedoretu,” and ruby’s like, “oh thank god this is perfect,” and ilia is like, “this is not how i expected this conversation to go.”

so basically what i’m saying is two sedoretus:

bumblebee/freezerburn/prismatic ponytails/calico (bees schnees + ilia)

renora/martial arcs/lancaster/sugar rush (team rnjr)

who are tied together by the sisters. white rose may or may not be a thing - i can’t figure out what all the rules are re: aunts but hey let’s be real with these 8 no one’s gonna judge them

bonus:

even though oscar isn’t that much younger than ruby, team rnjr more or less adopts him as their son. he gets a pretty badass aunt, and her sedoretu is protective of him as well, so he suddenly gets like 8 new parents who are at max like 4 years older than him. ozpin is so amused by this.

seamonkeys are still trying to find two girls to join them, oblivious to the obvious solution of just being a gay sedoretu with sage and scarlet

qrow and tai’s subplot of trying to find a couple willing to marry them. qrow keeps flirting with winter (who has to be morning because weiss is) but she’s dating glynda, who’s dating ironwood. those three want qrow to be their fourth, but he’s still got tai, so what’s a poor bird to do?

Sorry if you guys didn’t want to be tagged - thought of all of you while writing tonight forgive me if you didn’t want me tagging you in this just tell me and I won’t do it again

This was going to be the year he would finally accomplish the unthinkable… he was finally going to admit to Raven he was in love with her the only problem was how was he going to do it without being lame or looking stupid, he wanted to kiss her not get laughed at by everyone

His father had come into the lair this morning taking everyone completely by surprise. Master Splinter had waited until everybody was together to draw attention to himself by clearing his throat like he was about to tell them they were going to have practice.

They were supposed to have the day off to prepare for the Christmas party tonight

He stood still, arms behind his back as a small smile snuck onto his face using his tail to hold the mistletoe above him hearing the girls laughing, it had to have warmed his heart by the way he smiled as his daughter, April, and his sons all shower his furry cheeks with kisses.

His father had even been surprised when Raphael had leaned down kissing his master on the head as he walked to the kitchen to get breakfast from the stove and was that moment that he had gotten the idea

Mikey had his ways to get kisses under the plant and happily considers himself ‘The Mistletoe Ninja’ at this time of year, he had a tendency of catching the family off guard and taking the two women of their lives by surprise with all the elaborate ways he could get them under his absolute favorite plant in the history of ever.

He had gone as far as to knock on April’s window on his way back to the lair from patrol to sneak a kiss on her cheek when she had stuck her head out the window at four a.m. in morning three years ago, he seemed to like dropping down from the ceiling unannounced with the sprig in his fingers or wearing a mistletoe headband he had made to get Raven a few times

He had a million tricks to get his holiday smooches when it came to his favorite girls and he made sure to employ all of them to get their attention so he was the perfect person to ask but Michelangelo was a blabber mouth and would rat him out before he could even ask for his help

The thought had crossed his mind to contract Donatello’s help with his new drone that he could fly over their heads, mistletoe dangling from the bottom before she would see his cocky smile; a mix of bashful yet sly as he got his smooch from the beautiful girl

But then there would be the whirring sound of a drone to give her a warning and she would vacate the room if she thought they were messing with her

As much as he hated to think it he wished right then that he could be like his self-righteous asshole of an older brother; Leonardo wouldn’t be sitting somewhere over thinking this shit, he wouldn’t make no explicit or intricate fuss over this, he’d probably just move close to Raven backing her into a wall citing some bullshit like that it was a tradition he dearly loved among the many others he adored as he would pluck some mistletoe from his back pants pocket and hold it over her head, placing his fingers under her chin to tilt her head up so his lips could meet hers in a possessive kiss.

God fucking damnit that was genius… what a prick! Now he would have to outdo that plan just to show his brother up… only because she would fucking see through it

He had this – he had three more hours to come up with something good getting up from his weight bench stepping out into the living area seeing Raven putting a few gifts under the tree listening to her music swaying to the beat before heading into the kitchen where the teenager had spent a good portion of her day cooking and baking for tonight’s events

Maybe he could ask Casey, the human man was a mastermind with the ladies and he could possibly give him something epic, like he could play it cool walking into the room where she was acting normal before getting her attention “Ay kid, catch this!”, lumbering towards her in a slow and determined way as soon as she would unfold her hands to see that she had caught mistletoe, he wouldn’t bother to lift it above her head, stating in the aftermath of the heated kiss he was going to give her that just holding it is good enough for him

It sounded so perfect in his head but he knew he’d find a way to screw it up or Raven would kick his ass for being a dork

He went to wonder the sewers trying his damndest to come up with something awesome that would insure he could get a kiss from Raven but with his mind marveling in the semi good ideas he hadn’t noticed the time until his phone dinged looking down seeing he was late

He immediately rushed back coming through the door to see the teen coming up the steps stopping fast before she slammed into him placing her hands on his plastron to steady herself “Oh good you made it, I put some clean clothes on your bed for after you get a shower”

“I’m fine kid…”

She shook her head placing a hand on his arm trying to find a way to get him to listen to her without starting an argument “Were taking pictures with the family – I’ll hold them off for a bit besides April and Casey ain’t here yet” her sweet smile was breaking his will to fight her on this - he had taken a shower that morning he didn’t need one now

“They’re not? What the hell ‘m over an hour late”

“Yeah I had them stop at the store to grab a few things… don’t worry we won’t start without you” she moved over closer looking over her shoulder before those emerald green orbs were on him getting a bright grin from her “I couldn’t start the party without my favorite turtle after all”

His eyes widened as she leaned in pressing her lips to his cheek seeing a blush cross her face when she realized exactly just what she had said before the thought really crossed his mind. He had been out in the sewers… what if he smelled like the tunnels - If he was going to kiss her he wanted to smell good, he wanted to be close to her so he couldn’t stink – and this might give him more time to come up with a full proof plan to kiss the girl of his dreams “Ya know a shower sounds like a great idea”

She shot him a grin as he bolted upstairs grabbing the stuff she had laid out on the bed hurrying down the stairs into the underground area passing by the lab seeing Donatello messing with one of his inventions wearing a pair of new pants looking spiffy in his new get up seeing Raven had went all out on their stuff this year as he noticed Donnie’s outfit had a shirt that fit around his shell actually looking really cool

He turned as Master Splinter stepped into the den getting on to his younger brother who was jumping around showing off the black and orange pants that clung to the smallest turtles legs before noticing his father was wearing a new kimono that looked like it had been stitched to his exact measurements

He was in the underground area fast before his father could get onto him for being late passing by Leonardo who adjusted his belts as he saw his little brother holding his hands up slightly as if to ask how he looked in the new get up he was wearing

“She made that” he looked down at the blue pants that resembled some of the Japanese garments they had seen online that covered his feet so he could wear his shoes more comfortably while the sash around his waist tied to the side hanging down a few inches “Looks good”

The compliment didn’t go unnoticed by his oldest sibling who looked him over “Somebody’s in  good mood” Raphael shot him a small look before his brother was at his side patting his little brother on the arm heading upstairs without another word as he heard Michelangelo arguing with someone

He enjoyed the time he had in the shower making sure to wash every inch of him clean thinking hard about what he could do to ensure he could kiss the teen but nothing had come to him before stepping out drying himself off

Looking over at the clothes seeing that she had tried to stick to his preference in attire looking the pants over carefully grinning at the red and black colors before slipping them on looking over in the mirror as he worked the black sash around his waist seeing she had gotten him some new wraps looking his reflection over smirking

He had just stepped out of the bathroom when a familiar scent hit him “Hey hothead I washed your mask…” he looked up seeing the teen coming down the stairs fast before she stopped grinning when she saw him standing there in the clothes she had made for him “Wow, they look great Raphie”

“Yeah their nice kid” she giggled as he tried to fix something before she was at his side grinning at him her hands already messing with the sash on his waist “This is just a little long”

“This was something I did with Leo’s and I thought it would look great on you… here let me show you how to do this” he watched as she unwound the sash carefully stepping closer until her body was inches from him pulling it up so the silky item ran under the edge of his carapace over his shoulders, physically held his breath as she crossed them over his chest before wrapping it around his waist tying to the side before grinning as she adjusted it slightly “There… what do you think – if it’s too much I could just cut it-”

“It’s perfect kid, I love it” the smile on her face grew wider by the second until she was blushing as her fingers touched the fabric looking him over slowly moving closer until she was barely touching him

He shifted on his feet seeing how nervous she looked as her hands drifted up his chest leaning in as something pulled him down before a crash from upstairs broke the spell between them; both of their eyes popped open fast as she jumped back from him looking back over her shoulder with a disappointed glare

“I should probably get back up there and see what’s going on… I’m glad you liked them” she stepped back giving him a smile before she was gone leaving him standing there alone still in shock before it hit him – if he was ever going to kiss her that had been it

He had let the opportunity slip by him

It took him two seconds to start berating himself realizing the teen had run off with his bandanna as he climbed the stairs to the living area taking a deep breath as he took the last few steps seeing his family all having fun while they waited on him finally catching sight of Casey who for once was dressed nice instead of his casual attire messing with Mikey and Vern who looked over at the massive turtle when he appeared, the youngest had his arms wrapped around his mates waist playing with the silky fabric of her sweater dress as the massive turtle stepped into the room looking around for the small girl who had just left him downstairs “Ay where’d the kid go?”

His brother looked him over carefully before nudging the human man who had his arm around April whistling at how their friend cleaned up as Mikey smirked “Hey Raphie looking good”

A small growl pulled from his throat as his brothers laughed at the old childhood nickname they had all given him “Mike don’t call me that” the youngest turtle grinned mischievously at his older brother before Leo was waving for Mikey to knock it off “Where the hell did Rave go? She has my bandanna”

Leonardo was standing off to the side holding tight to the woman who was playing with his mask her bright blue dress matching the leaders mask perfectly before Donnie moved from his seat smiling as he headed towards the door meeting the short female that came through the door lifting her up to press a loving kiss to her lips before helping her with her coat whistling at the beautiful purple dress that clung to her body his eyes landing on the swollen stomach in front of her knowing she was due any day now “She ran to get ready since you were coming– oh wow” they all froze looking up when Raphael looked at Leonardo whose mouth dropped as a small voice filled the lair along with the alluring scent he would never get tired of

“Mikey stop teasing Raph. You promised not to aggravate him tonight” Raphael spun around looking up as the teenager descended the stairs making the turtles mouth drop when he saw her, she looked magnificent

“Woah baby girl”

She was wearing a short red dress that brushed over her thighs with a pair black of legging with her new black heels that were making her calves look even more toned and her legs and rear more defined to his eyes, as she got closer he could see the sleeves were made of delicate lace that shoved off her skin beautifully under the fabric, her long black hair had been brushed to the side and the curls fixed perfectly 

And by damn when she looked up at him he lost his breath

The teen had put on a small amount of eye make-up causing those stunning emerald orbs to stand out beautifully against her naturally flawless pale skin “Danm-” 

She spun around with a nervous grin looking up at him as he stood there only one word echoing in his mind to describe the stunning woman that now stood before him “What do you think? April helped me pick it out but if it looks bad-”

“Ya look beautiful kid”

The words left his mouth without him ever realizing it hearing the others in the room fall silent as she blushed in shock before smiling up at him “T-Thanks Raphie” he wanted to die right there but the look on her face once the others started complimenting her seemed to help ease her which calmed him as she stepped back to his side holding out his mask with a small smile “Sorry I ran off with this… but you know – I think you look great without it big guy”

“Ya’d be the only one kid – but thanks” she patted his arm her touch lingering for a moment longer as she was stepping past him before he spun around opening his mouth to say something more but by that time Mikey had her in a tight hug nuzzling up against the teen who giggled hugging each one of the ladies as she headed into the kitchen finishing up dinner

The rest of the evening slipped by uneventful; they had dinner which had turned out wonderful, mingled, and even danced a bit up until they had all sat down to start unwrapping presents

Master Splinter had gotten several new boxes of incense and a few decorative candles for his room flourished in Japanese writing and art

Leo grinned flipping through a few new books to add to his collection along with the few handmade things from his younger brother’s and little sister kissing his mates cheek when she gave him a decorative knife set with Japanese looking dragons carved into the smooth cherry wood sheaths after he had helped her put on the necklace he had given her

He opened a second gift that she had placed in his lap asking her what it was before his face dropped in confusion looking around to his family as if it was meant as a prank pulling out a little case in the shape of an oven opening it to see a tiny sweet bun “Akachan - this is adorable but what-” he suddenly stopped looking over as she laughed nodding before he got what she was doing whispering under his breath as his face cracked into a huge smile looking her over before pulling her closer pressing a kiss to her full lips hugging his mate tightly “We got a bun in the oven guys!” everyone cheered and congratulated the two who were still holding tight to one another Leo keeping his head down as his shoulders shook laughing through the happy tears dripping down his cheeks 

Raphael was loving his new leather jacket and the knitting supplies Casey had gotten him as a joke, his eyes lighting up when he had opened a box to find a Gibson guitar everyone had gone in on together playing it with a happy smile on his face 

Donnie was already in the process of enjoying his new hand held tablet with the gorilla glass April had ordered him joking it should hold up if Raph ever got a hold of it making the room burst into laughter before he pulled his girl into his lap his hand coming to rest on her waist kissing her neck before rubbing over her belly as the babies kicked around

Mikey was already planning all the neat art projects he was going to do with the brand new basket of art supplies ranging from pencils and a sketch pad to a few new cans of spray paint he could tag the tunnels with, he had waited for everything to be moved before kneeling down slipping a small ring on his loves finger grinning widely as she admired it before realizing just what he was doing tearing up as she gave him a shaky yes hugging him tightly to her when he picked her up

When he had looked up from his phone after taking a picture of Casey with a few bows on his chest he noticed the teenager searching the tree for something looking over at him before he saw her look towards Leonardo who was silently reading a few pages of his first book with an arm around the woman at his side who was glancing over something in his book “Hey guys there’s a gift missing… it’s Raph’s anyone seen it”

“I think you took it over towards the kitchen little sister” she nodded before looking over towards the table heading over quickly looking around for a while before Raphael jumped up moving to help her

“Whatcha looking for kid?” she looked back as he stepped closer looking back over her shoulder seeming confused

“I got you something else but – for the life of me I can’t find it” she looked over as Mikey chuckled seeing the others trying to hold back their laughter when something hit the roof above their heads

“Would – that be what you’re looking for Baby girl” Mikey burst out laughing as she looked up with a small grin shooting a glare at Leonardo who looked away with a smug grin acting innocent before she was giggling

“Yeah that’s it…” he looked down as she waved him closer before grabbing the tails of his mask pulling him down pressing her lips to his in a soft kiss that caught him off guard in the moment before she pulled away looking him over when his eyes opened. He looked up slowly when her eyes drifted seeing a sprig of mistletoe hanging from the ceiling by a string attached to one of their kunai before he looked back down at the teen seeing a small smile

“Hey he’s supposed to kiss you not the other way around”

He rolled his eyes looking over at his brothers before looking back up at the plant “Sorry Raphie – had that planned for weeks, guess big brother wanted to help” he grabbed her arm pulling her closer to him looking her over carefully

“Ya planned this?” she slowly nodded meeting his eyes before he was pulling her against him until her chest was against his plastron pressing his lips to hers firmly as she went stiff before wrapping her arms around his neck as he lifted her up off the ground tilting her head to the side making the kiss so much deeper when her eyes closed returning his affections without hesitation 

He didn’t care if his family was staring at them or the fact that she had planned this when he had been killing his brain all day trying to come up with something to make this moment happen but the moment those soft pink lips were under his he was focused on her completely feeling how her arms clung to his neck and her hands cupped the back of his head keeping their mouths pressed together as his tongue shoved her lips open hearing her groaning softly

He finally pulled away grinning as she went limp in his arms still holding tight to him “W-Wow” he grinned as she opened her eyes looking up at him dazed, her face flushed and lips swollen as he held tight to her “That was so much better than I had pictured”

He didn’t say it but he had to agree… that was way better anything he could have done

She smiled as he nuzzled his face against hers before finding her lips again

He didn’t have to tell her he had feelings for her cause by the way they were clinging to one another it was clear they both had the same thing in mind ignoring their family’s wolf calls and cheers as they pulled away sharing a small smile

This moment was perfect all on its own as Raven wrapped her arms around him tightly hugging him as he buried his nose in her neck “Best Christmas gift ever kid”
