#Red Leg Zeff

One of my favorite Sanji headcanon's is that he has the best sea legs of the crew, tied w/ Jimbei after he joins. But he also absolutely has the WORST land legs when they make landfall.

I think this because, prior to Kamabakka, the longest period he spent on actual land seems to be starving on a rock with Zeff.

I totally buy that Germa likely had some sort of stabilizing tech on their snails, definitely in medical and engineering areas. You need a measure of stability in your evil laboratory.

But any ocean-going vessel does need to actually move with the sea. Otherwise, it won't move at all. So, I think other areas were less stabilized.

Thus, Sanji went from weird snails that swim the seas, to cruise ship, to trauma rock, to a restaurant ship before joining the Straw Hats. Moving on a ship likely feels more natural to him than on land.

I think he has trained himself to adjust pretty quickly, as a necessity, and also because the Mosshead definitely would call it out. But even still, his first few steps on any island are not as graceful as his usual stride.

thought about sanji groveling to zeff at the end of baratie as a sign of respect and appreciation for loving and taking care of him when he set sail with the straw hats and sanji pulling down judge to eye level when declaring he has no right to call himself sanjis father because he is not. making himself small and bow his head to show appreciation to the man who raised him and bringing down the man who abused him to eye level so he can disrespect and denounce their relationship. because zeff made him feel important so he wanted to show his unending appreciation by making zeff feel important and judge made him feel worthless and as such the ultimate disrespect to would be to bring them truly eye to eye instead of sanji being physically looked down upon. making a king feel unimportant and like he is on the same level as the child who left he despises. i am so unwell

I love Zeff and Sanji's father son relationship so so much. Zeff's poor Eggplant has gotten sick. Steamed himself instead of the actual food...

i was thinking about aroace sanji and how that would interact with transfem sanji headcanon, right?

Anyways, zeff has some pretty old-fashioned views on chivalry - as evidenced in the WCI arc in flashbacks of sanji's childhood where sanji asks zeff why they don't have any women working at the baratie and zeff says that it's because the way he disciplines his workers is by beating them up, and he wouldn't be able to do that with female employees

Anyways I'm imagining the straw hats going back to the baratie after finding the one piece, and sanji is worried about how zeff will react to seeing her again, now that she's transitioned

The welcome home is very warm and while the servers and chefs are their usual gruff selves, zeff is being weirdly standoffish. Sanji keeps trying to start a fight, but zeff never rises to the bait

The truth is that he's really desperately happy to see his daughter again, home safe and sound from the grand line, but he's conflicted on how to treat her because their relationship has always been based on combat and it's how they show their affection, but zeff never hits women, but he also doesn't know how to show his feelings any other way

Sanji is a little depressed about it, though she tries not to show it. She knows it's probably a good thing because it shows that zeff sees her as a real woman, but it also makes her feel lonely

So Zeff has to reckon with how old-fashioned his views towards women are (and how dehumanizing in some ways), and he has to decide what's more important to him: upholding his values of never hitting a woman, or showing his daughter his love in the same way he always has, and showing her that he still cares for her and respects her as a fighter
