doodled human designs for a few neutral aus! (pt.1)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(click for better quality)
can you tell i lost motivation... thank you to chandr for doing the last 3's lineart for me. legit couldn't get freshs colours to fit with the rest. eugh. its the best you're going to get out of us for these guys.
Nightmares gang, star sanses, neu au pt.2, extras
COLOUR, CLASSIC, PAPYRUS, EPIC and ANY REQUESTS will be in the next neu au post 3_^ so please please request me to draw neutral peoples... gonna open general requests in a separate post.
some hcs under the cut!
warning for alot... i mean.. alot of text..
> Ccino (he/they)
indian... ccino... mbghbgb. MAINLY BECAUSE I WAS EATING GULAB JAMUNS AND I WAS LIKE "huh this reminds me of ccino."
trans masc! you should be more surprised if someone wasn't trans at this point
just for individuality, i feel like he'd have cat features. toe beans, tail, but no ears. personal preference.
hopeless romantic. wants to fall in love so bad, like so bad. but doesn't have anyone to fall in love with.
his AU is a neutral where the player killed all bosses. because of this, ink had offered them a pocket AU with just their caf猫. ccino still visits their old au from time to time, but otherwise lives in the caf猫.
one of the youngest AU's/sanses, only a few hundred years old
> error (he/they/xe)
spanish + colombian
as a divergence from classic, he maintains a similar body shape. also the fact he eats nothing but chocolate.
^ similarly, his eye is covered by a star glitch. xe never equates this to the fact they were geno, and just see it as some weird cool glitch.
rocks an alliance with both NM and dream, so wears both the stars pin and gangs patch. he always choses the side of who benefits him the most in that moment. neither of the groups are happy about it, but see error as too valuable to deny.
has arthritis and bad joints. his strings usually dig into his fingers, causing scaring and pain. (bsp related: he gets taught how to relieve these pains by nms gang because they all have chronic pains of some kind)
taking strings from his eyes is PAINFUL. its basically his unraveled code and magic combined, glitching and stuttering.
illiterate. he cannot read anything but code.
brother of ink. annoying brothers that HATE eachother. but love eachother at the same time.
> cross (they/he)
spanish. it fits him. and its relatively canon.
cross is indecisive. they've jumped between nightmares gang and the stars several times, easily being swayed. as of my AU right now, they're with the stars.
they're colourblind! their AU was monochrome, and thats how they see everything. everything is just a shade of purple. he's never told people about it, but most people catch onto ir.
autism. cross has horrible sensory issues, and gets overwhelmed easily. also bad at social queues.
THIS MAN IS THE DEFINITION OF DOG POETRY. they would go on pinterest daily and cry about it.
is a great artist. ink taught him the basics when they were stuck in the void, so they built on it. they're really self conscious about it, and keep their sketchbook locked away tightly. (in their bedside drawer)
> reaper (he/him)
egytpian. i feel like he'd embody their idea of dying.
bird claws. bird wings. everything bird.
seen as a parental figure to dream and nightmare because of his extensive knowledge of the universe and balance n all that.
(THE GAY FLAG WAS A MISTAKE) he's bi. and loves his wife. (life)
aroace spec! completely ace, and demiromantic.
sorry guys i dont have the best hcs for him 馃挃
> geno (he/they)
spanish + colombian
needs a portable oxygen tube to breath. he can live without it, but its really painful to not have it.
some parts of his body are decomposed, while others are held together through determination. practically constant agony.
same reasoning as error for body shape.
> fresh (they/it)
parasite. its ass doesn't have a race nor nationality.
not the hotest with a few sanses. dream and nightmare don't like someone demeanour not being affected in the slightest by the amount of pain and agony they're in. error hates how the code overlaps and glitches. and overall they're just a bit crazy.
wears either heelies or rollerskates. refuses to EVER walk anywhere, and always rolls.
i don't got much for him.
eugh. i am so sorry if the hcs are lazy, i am not good hcing with aus im not familiar with. if anyone wants to input please do! i'd love to learn about them. <3 anyways i am sleeping because i need to stop staying up till 4am..

hi everyone. i have some good news and really bad news to share. the good news is, i passed my exam. i didn't pass the first time i took it, but my retest was last friday and this time i did. i was extremely relieved since working and dealing with classes and the stress of it was very hard on me. so i'm glad that it's done. now for the bad news, ( tw: animal sickness / death ) my dog, who i've had for around nine years, went to the vet yesterday for what we thought was going to be the start of his arthritis treatment. the vet told us late december that he was starting to have it and eventually, we would need to give him a monthly injection to treat it, so when we went there, that was the only thing we were expecting to do. however, the vet checked him out and felt like something was wrong so she did an xray and my lovely baby boy has an enlarged spleen and two+ tumors (which she's almost completely sure is cancer) in his liver. as he's 12 (i adopted him when he was three) she did not recommend surgery and felt that it would only give him pain if he managed to pull through and as the tumors/spleen were causing him have trouble walking (what we thought was actually the cause of his arthritis), she told us to humanely euthanized him as he would not have the quality of life. we will be saying goodbye to him tomorrow at 3pm. i spent the whole day with him today and tomorrow me and my dad are going to give him an amazing last day before the appointment. this is the first time i've had to deal with losing a pet and the pain i've been feeling since yesterday is something i've never felt before. tomorrow is probably going to be the hardest thing i've ever done and i'm terrified of going back home knowing he won't be there anymore. he's been with me since i moved out of my parent's place, i never lived alone without him. i won't be too active until probably may 1st. i may come on earlier than that if i need to keep my mind occupied so i wanted to let you guys know i won't be online much (if at all) until then. thank you for understanding.

I have not written about it in detail and I don't know that I ever will. But I can't say that Ernie Dog accepted Death gracefully, exactly. I cannot say that he was ready. I can say that we all--both humans and dog--fought for as long as we could to take him to the threshold of being ready.
What kills me about it is everything but what kills me especially about it is this: about a day before he went to the vet for the last time, about two days before he died, sick and tired and in the late stages of lung cancer that progressed swiftly despite surgery and chemotherapy, on the cusp of turning 14, exhausted and arthritic and unable to take a deep breath--
He heard me make a pain noise from the bathroom.
And I had to run out, because I heard him heave himself upright, all 70 of him preparing to dig his way out of his little nest, ready to risk the fall of stepping down from the elevated (because, again: arthritis) bed, just to check on me.
Even then. Even then he took his devotion so seriously.
And how can any of us deserve that kind of devotion, that kind of love? We can't. We don't. None of us do. I truly believe that. An accident of evolution and not necessarily of a creator god: life is unfair in our favor. But we don't deserve that kind of love.
Ernie was on the brink of not being able to check on me if he needed to. And that would have pained him, I think, far more than physical pain, that would have embarrassed him.
We took him to the vet for the last time on a Saturday morning. He stood, on his own, strong stance, all fours, and insisted on patrolling the front yard, marking his territory. Slowly? Yes. Determinedly? More than you can possibly imagine. "Oh, buddy," I heard my beloved say, while I was still inside putting on my shoes, and I knew what was happening without having to look, though I also went and looked.
To the last.
When we saw him the next day in the hyperbaric chamber, unable to get a good breath in even there, even if he panted with his mouth open, he started to stand for us. I had to gesture him down. He only listened to the command out of respect for me and not because he agreed with it.
To the last, he was like that. We relieved him of his duty as late as we dared, but I can't say I felt he was ready to go, because he was a fighter. I fully believe that if we could have asked he would have said: one more round.
But you can't ask. And you don't want him too--I mean, I would have kept him longer. I would have put him in the carrying harness and kept him and put him in diapers and let him pass at home. And for some dogs, that might be the right call. But he was used to the vet, and he always had so much dignity.
I held his head in my hands as he closed his eyes, as his head grew heavy. I never understood before how literal being put to sleep is, at least sometimes. I lowed his head as he went limp, at his pace, natural as anything, and what makes me feel that we didn't call it too late, I think, is how peaceful it was, how natural his posture, how much like sleep and curling up for a nap. No exhausted last breath, no sigh like some people talk about. He held himself together. It's not that he knew--I think. It was that he held himself together because if he fought for it he still could, and because I was there, and because my tears always distressed him. He was so good. To the last.

About the joint issues with your dog: First of all I'm really sorry to hear about it. I've seen a lot of cases of water as a therapeutic way to relieve joint pain, there was one case of a guy, John Unger and his dog Schoep where he took his dog to the lake regularly so he could be relieved from his arthritis at least for a little while. Hope it helps! Best of wishes for you and your fur friend 馃挄
Thank you for this, I actually know of that story and it's heartbreaking but I know how much it helps/helped the dog. The only thing in the world that could make me cry in a matter of seconds is thinking about losing my boy, so uhhh let's hope he gets better

Improving Canine Comfort: The Role of Dog Leg Braces in Arthritis Management
Tumblr media
Arthritis is a common condition among dogs, particularly in their senior years, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. While there鈥檚 no cure, there are ways to manage its symptoms & enhance dog鈥檚 quality of life. Dog leg braces have emerged as a promising solution for alleviating discomfort and promoting mobility in arthritic dogs.
Relieving Pain and Discomfort:
Arthritis often leads to chronic pain and discomfort for dogs, making even simple movements challenging. Dog leg brace provides support and stability to arthritic joints, reducing strain and minimizing pain. By offering gentle compression and cushioning, these dog braces alleviate discomfort and allow dogs to move more comfortably.
Promoting Joint Support and Stability:
Arthritic joints are prone to instability, increasing the risk of further injury. Leg braces for dogs with arthritis offer crucial joint support, helping to stabilize weakened areas. By maintaining proper alignment and limiting excessive movement, these braces reduce the strain on arthritic joints, thereby minimizing the risk of exacerbating the condition.
Enhancing Mobility and Activity Levels:
One of the most significant benefits of dog leg braces for arthritis is their ability to improve mobility and encourage physical activity. Arthritis can significantly restrict a dog鈥檚 movement, leading to muscle atrophy and weight gain. Leg braces help dogs overcome these limitations by providing support and promoting proper gait mechanics, allowing them to engage in activities they enjoy.
Facilitating Rehabilitation and Recovery:
In cases where arthritis has led to joint injuries or surgeries, leg braces play a vital role in the rehabilitation process. These braces provide controlled support and assist in the recovery of weakened or injured joints. By facilitating proper movement and reducing the risk of re-injury, leg braces support the dog鈥檚 journey towards improved mobility and function.
Customized Solutions for Individual Needs:
Every dog鈥檚 condition and anatomy are unique, requiring personalized care and support. Dog leg braces come in various sizes and designs, allowing for customization to suit the individual needs of each dog. Whether it鈥檚 a brace designed for the front or hind legs, or a specific size to accommodate a dog鈥檚 breed and weight, customized solutions ensure optimal comfort and effectiveness.
Long-Term Management and Quality of Life:
Managing arthritis is a long-term commitment aimed at maximizing a dog鈥檚 quality of life. Dog leg braces serve as a valuable tool in the long-term management of arthritis symptoms, providing ongoing support and relief. By incorporating leg braces into a comprehensive care plan that includes medication, supplements, and lifestyle modifications, pet owners can help their arthritic dogs live happier, more comfortable lives.
Conclusion:
Dog leg braces for arthritis are instrumental in enhancing the overall quality of life for affected dogs. By relieving pain, promoting joint support, enhancing mobility, facilitating rehabilitation, offering customized solutions, and contributing to long-term management, these braces play a vital role in managing arthritis symptoms and improving the well-being of arthritic dogs. As part of a holistic approach to arthritis management, leg braces offer hope and comfort to dogs facing this common yet challenging condition.

The Benefits of Lower Back Pain Exercises: Relieving Pain and Improving Mobility
Tumblr media
Lower back pain is something that a lot of people deal with around the globe. It can come from things like bad posture, sitting too much, or even some health issues.
This kind of pain can really get in the way of your daily life. While many turn to medications and treatments for relief, one of the best long-term solutions is to get moving with regular exercise.
Doing specific exercises for lower back pain can ease discomfort, build up your back muscles, boost flexibility, and help prevent future injuries. In this blog, we鈥檒l dive into the many perks of these exercises and how they can really improve your overall health and happiness.
Getting to Know Lower Back Pain: What Causes It and What Happens Next
There are a bunch of reasons why you might experience lower back pain, like muscle strains, ligament sprains, herniated discs, or issues like sciatica and arthritis. Things like slouching, sitting for long periods, and not being active enough can also play a big role in causing discomfort.
The pain can vary from mild to really intense, and sometimes it sticks around for a long time, turning chronic and lasting for weeks, months, or even years.
If you don鈥檛 tackle lower back pain, it can really affect your life. It might make it hard to do everyday tasks, limit your movement, and even take a toll on your mental health. Living with chronic pain can lead to feelings of depression and anxiety, making life feel less enjoyable.
That鈥檚 why it鈥檚 super important to focus on exercises that target lower back pain to keep both your body and mind in good shape.
The Benefits of Lower Back Pain Exercises
Regularly doing exercises for lower back pain brings a ton of benefits that go way beyond just easing the pain. These workouts can help you build strength, improve flexibility, and enhance stability, which all contribute to a healthier and more active lifestyle.
1. Pain Relief and Less Inflammation
One of the quickest perks of lower back pain exercises is the relief from pain. Gentle stretches and strengthening moves can ease the tension in the muscles and ligaments around your lower back, making you feel better. By boosting blood flow to the area, these exercises help with healing and cut down on inflammation. This is super helpful for those dealing with chronic lower back pain, as staying active can help keep symptoms in check and stop flare-ups from happening.
For example, moves like pelvic tilts, cat-cow stretches, and knee-to-chest stretches are great for gently stretching and relaxing the lower back muscles, giving you quick relief from pain and stiffness.
With time, these exercises can help lessen how often and how intensely you experience lower back pain.
2. Building Core Strength
Having a strong core is key to keeping your lower back healthy. The core muscles, which include your abs, obliques, and lower back muscles, help stabilize and support your spine. If these muscles are weak, your lower back is more likely to get strained or injured.
Exercises for lower back pain often target core strength to better support the spine. Moves like planks, bird-dogs, and bridges focus on the core, helping you build strength and stability.
As these muscles get stronger, they can handle more of the load, which reduces the strain on your lower back and helps prevent further pain and injuries.
3. Better Flexibility and Range of Motion
Tight muscles and limited flexibility often lead to lower back pain. When the muscles around your lower back are tight, they can pull on your spine and cause discomfort. Plus, not having a good range of motion can lead to bad posture.
Lower back pain exercises, particularly stretching exercises, can improve flexibility and increase your range of motion.
Hamstring stretches, hip flexor stretches, and spinal twists are examples of exercises that can help lengthen tight muscles and improve mobility. By increasing flexibility, you reduce the risk of muscle imbalances and joint stiffness, which can lead to lower back pain.
4. Better Posture and Alignment
Bad posture is a major culprit behind lower back pain. Whether you're stuck at a desk for hours or hunching over while standing, poor posture adds unnecessary pressure to your lower back, which can result in ongoing pain.
Doing exercises specifically for lower back pain can help fix these postural issues and encourage better alignment.
Strengthening the muscles in both your upper and lower back, along with your core, is key to keeping good posture. Exercises like seated rows, shoulder blade squeezes, and wall angels are great for building up the muscles that support your spine.
As your posture gets better, you'll feel less strain on your lower back, which means a lower chance of pain.
5. Avoiding Future Injuries
One of the biggest perks of doing lower back pain exercises is how they help prevent injuries. By strengthening the muscles that support your spine, boosting flexibility, and improving posture, you lower your risk of getting hurt in the future.
Whether you're lifting heavy stuff, working out, or just going about your day, having a strong and stable lower back is crucial for avoiding strain and injuries.
Plus, regular exercise helps you develop better body mechanics and movement habits. When you move the right way, you lessen the chances of putting too much stress on your lower back, which is especially important for athletes or anyone doing physically demanding tasks.
By adding lower back pain exercises to your routine, you can safeguard your back from injuries that might lead to long-lasting pain and issues.
6. Boosted Mental Health and Well-Being
Lower back pain doesn鈥檛 just impact your body; it can also mess with your mental health. Dealing with chronic pain often goes hand in hand with feelings of anxiety, depression, and stress. The ongoing discomfort can make it tough to enjoy life, leading to frustration and a sense of hopelessness.
Engaging in regular lower back pain exercises can have a positive impact on your mental health. Exercise has been shown to release endorphins, the body鈥檚 natural painkillers and mood enhancers.
As you begin to experience relief from lower back pain and regain your mobility, you鈥檒l likely notice improvements in your mood, energy levels, and overall sense of well-being.
Additionally, the sense of accomplishment that comes from sticking to an exercise routine can boost your confidence and motivation, further enhancing your mental health.
7. Cost-Effective and Sustainable Pain Management
Many people with lower back pain turn to medications, injections, or even surgery for relief. While these treatments can be effective, they often come with risks, side effects, and significant costs.
On the other hand, lower back pain exercises offer a cost-effective and sustainable solution that can be practiced at home with little to no equipment.
By incorporating these exercises into your daily routine, you can manage lower back pain without relying on expensive treatments or medications.
Over time, you may find that you need fewer visits to healthcare providers and can enjoy a more active and pain-free lifestyle. The long-term benefits of regular exercise far outweigh the temporary relief provided by other treatments, making it a valuable investment in your health.
To wrap it up: Take Advantage of Lower Back Pain Exercises
Lower back pain exercises provide a well-rounded way to tackle pain relief and prevention by focusing on the underlying issues causing discomfort.
By building core strength, boosting flexibility, improving posture, and enhancing overall health, these workouts can lead to lasting relief from lower back pain.
Whether you鈥檙e facing occasional aches or ongoing pain, adding these exercises to your daily routine is a smart move towards a healthier, more active lifestyle.
Just a heads up, start off easy and pay attention to how your body feels. If you鈥檙e just getting into exercise or have any existing health concerns, it鈥檚 a good idea to check in with a healthcare professional or physical therapist to make sure you鈥檙e doing the right exercises for you. With some consistency and commitment, you can reap the many benefits of lower back pain exercises and live a life without pain holding you back.

Is Coconut Oil Safe for Cats?
New Post has been published on https://www.petculiars.com/is-coconut-oil-safe-for-cats/
Is Coconut Oil Safe for Cats?
Coconut oil is gaining popularity among people, being used for things like cooking, hair care, and even as a moisturizer. But are there any benefits of coconut oil in cats? Is it a good idea to feed your cat coconut oil, and can you use it to protect its skin and fur?
The benefits of coconut oil in cats
Using coconut oil for cats can have many benefits.
Externally, coconut oil can help with allergies, dry skin, itching, and overall fur health.
Internally, coconut oil can bring multiple benefits:
boosts the immune system of the cat;
it can help fight the formation of hairballs in the cat鈥檚 stomach;
may reduce inflammation of the joints (arthritis);
it can improve bad breath;
it can help maintain a healthy stomach.
Regular use of coconut oil is not recommended, but good results have been recorded in treating dermatitis.
Therefore, use coconut oil:
on the cat鈥檚 skin, to treat itching, and dry skin, calm flea bites, to treat skin irritation;
when bathing your pet, to get rid of the unpleasant odors of the fur and even fleas,
on wounds and cuts to prevent infections, as coconut oil contains lauric acid, a well-known antimicrobial;
to relieve constipation, but pay attention to dosage as too much oil causes diarrhea;
to benefit from its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, because it relieves arthritis pain, and normal thyroid function;
to reduce inflammation and gum pain;
You might also like my articles about:

Can you use coconut oil in dogs
Can dogs eat coconut
If your cat cannot tolerate traditional flea medications, coconut oil offers a safe alternative. Coconut oil can be applied to remove fleas in two ways: Trap and repel. The oil traps the fleas and makes them stick easily to the flea combs. For those who manage to escape, coconut oil contains a natural flea repellent called lauric acid to drive them away.
You can use coconut oil as an ointment on dry skin patches and insect bites to alleviate itching on your cat. As an additional effect, it moisturizes the affected skin. The usual infection behind dry skin and itching is a layer of dead skin. Coconut oil contains fatty acids that remove dead skin, allowing the formation of new healthy skin.
Coconut oil鈥檚 antioxidant properties soothe damaged skin. Its antibiotic and antifungal properties heal wounds caused by other conditions. It also moisturizes the coat itself, providing a glossy, smoother coat.
How to offer your cat coconut oil
If you find that your cat enjoys coconut oil on her skin, they may also benefit from adding it to their diet as a supplement. Coconut oil contains medium-chain fatty acids that are easily absorbed into the digestive tract. Once in the digestive tract, these acids can alleviate constipation and irritable bowel symptoms.
You can use small amounts of coconut oil along with your cat鈥檚 food, or apply it locally to cats with skin problems. But as with any new food or supplement, don鈥檛 give your cat too much coconut oil too early.
Coconut oil continues to work in the digestive system to balance the good and bad bacteria that are found in the body. With good amounts of vitamin E, vitamin K, and iron, coconut oil also contributes to a cat鈥檚 daily nutrition. Healthy digestion results in better absorption of nutrients from cat food. In fact, it can help some cats get a healthy weight.
Some cats tolerate coconut oil better than others, and some cats may be allergic to it. This happens less often, but it can happen. Too much can also cause diarrhea in your cat.
A medium-sized cat should receive 1/4-1/2 teaspoon 1-2 times/day maximum. Some veterinarians even recommend starting with 1/8 teaspoon per day at 20kg body weight. Cat owners who want to use coconut oil to treat hairballs may offer it less often, such as several times a week. Generally, start with a small amount and adjust as needed.
As for how to get your cat to eat coconut oil, this should not be a problem unless you have a particularly demanding cat. It can be administered directly because many cats like the taste. If your cat does not like to eat coconut oil, try mixing it with 1-2 teaspoons of canned cat food.
What are the risks of feeding your cat coconut oil?
While coconut oil has some benefits for cats, it鈥檚 important to note that it can cause stomach upset and diarrhea in cats.
Because it is high in saturated fats, it should be used with caution in cats with pancreatitis, and some cats may be sensitive to it. Therefore, the use of coconut oil in cats should be carefully monitored.
Coconut oil is also very high in calories, approx. 117 calories/spoon. You will need to reduce calories elsewhere in her diet to avoid unwanted weight gain if you start feeding your cat coconut oil.
Some cats may not respond well to coconut oil for various reasons. While allergy to coconut oil is unlikely, it is always possible. Starting with small amounts of oil and tracking rashes on her skin, it will tell you if your cat is allergic to it.
Alternatives to coconut oil in cats
If your cat does not tolerate coconut oil, there are alternatives to consider. Coconut oil appears to be used in a similar way to fish oil, although coconut oil does not contain the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil.
Applied on the skin, fish oil and olive oil can be good alternatives, although using them together would be ideal to maximize the fatty acids content. Olive oil can help with some skin problems, but it doesn鈥檛 have the same anti-inflammatory effects as coconut oil. Therefore, these oils are somewhat similar to coconut oil but do not have the same effects.
Final words!
All cats are different, and your veterinarian can help determine whether the benefits of using coconut oil for your cat overcome the risks. Always use 100% organic, unrefined coconut oil.
It is important to consider all aspects before treating our cats for any condition. Natural remedies are often safer. I hope you enjoyed this information about coconut oil in cats and that it will be useful in your particular case.

The Prevalent and Painful Issue of Companion Animal Arthritis
Tumblr media
What is Arthritis? Arthritis refers to inflammation and degeneration of the joints. It occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of bones wears down over time. This allows bone to rub against bone, causing pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints. Arthritis is actually an umbrella term that describes more than 100 different conditions affecting the joints. The most common types seen in dogs and cats include osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Risk Factors and Causes Certain factors make companion animals more susceptible to developing arthritis. Breed and size play a role, as larger breed dogs and cats are at higher risk due to extra weight on their joints. Obesity can worsen arthritis by adding extra pounds of stress. Previous joint injuries, especially torn ligaments or fractures, disrupt normal joint mechanics and accelerate cartilage damage. Age is a major factor, as pets tend to develop arthritis as they get older due to years of wear and tear. Genetics also contribute, as some purebred dogs are prone to certain joint disorders. Signs and Symptoms of Companion Animal Arthritis The clinical signs of arthritis are similar across species. Affected pets may limp or hesitate to jump, run, climb stairs or get up after lying down. They may express discomfort when certain joints are touched, moved or positioned a certain way. Stiffness after rest periods is common, gradually improving as joints are worked. Pets may hold up or favor an injured limb. Physical exam often reveals joint swelling, warmth, crepitus (crackling sounds) and limited mobility. Pain typically worsens with activity and improves with rest. Diagnosis and Testing Vets diagnose Companion Animal Arthritis based on signalment (breed, age, history), physical exam findings and ruling out other possible causes through diagnostic tests if needed. X-rays can detect bone changes like bone spurs, narrowed joint spaces, cracks and deformities. Advanced imaging like CT or MRI may provide clearer pictures of soft tissues like cartilage. Joint fluids are analyzed for inflammation signs. Blood tests are usually normal with arthritis but can help diagnose underlying diseases in some cases. Elimination diets may identify dietary arthritis triggers for some pets. Treatment Options There is no cure for arthritis, but various treatments can relieve pain and improve mobility. Weight control through diet and exercise is crucial for obese pets. Physical rehabilitation therapies like massage, controlled exercise, range-of-motion exercises, hydrotherapy and acupuncture may help. Prescription anti-inflammatory medications are mainstays, including NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), steroids, disease-modifying drugs for certain types of autoimmune arthritis. Joint supplements containing glucosamine, chondroitin and other compounds have benefits for some pets. Severely arthritic joints may need surgical interventions like arthroscopies to clean out joints, remove bone spurs and torn cartilage or ligaments, or total joint replacements in some cases. Assistive devices like harnesses, ramps, supportive beds can aid mobility in advanced cases.

Benefits of Veterinary Acupuncture
Tumblr media
Acupuncture is a Chinese holistic healing technique that dates back thousands of years and is now widely used across the world on both humans and animals. Veterinary acupuncture entails putting a series of ultra-fine needles into various locations of an animal鈥檚 body, and is associated with multiple benefits.
Relieves Pain without Drugs
Veterinary acupuncture helps to stimulate the body鈥檚 pain-relieving endorphins and anti-inflammatory substances, which helps lower chronic discomfort. Animals undergoing painful treatment procedures such as chemotherapy benefit from undergoing acupuncture to help manage their pain and discomfort. Acupuncture also helps to relieve discomfort associated with chronic inflammatory complications such as arthritis.
Reduces Allergies
Acupuncture helps the body to regulate its immune system, which lowers a pet鈥檚 adverse reactions to some foods and substances such as food additives, pollen, grasses, mold, and other environmental allergens. Veterinary acupuncture also helps to lower skin allergy symptoms in dogs and cats such as rashes, hot spots, allergic dermatitis, and granulomas. Common Conditions Treated in Pets with Veterinary Acupuncture
Acupuncture for pets is becoming an increasingly popular choice among pet owners seeking holistic and natural approaches to animal health care. This ancient practice, rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate healing and relieve pain. Pet acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of conditions, enhancing the quality of life for many furry companions. In this blog, we'll explore some of the most common conditions that acupuncture can treat in animals.
Tumblr media
Common Conditions Treated with Veterinary Acupuncture
1. Arthritis and Joint Pain
One of the most common uses of acupuncture for pets is the treatment of arthritis and joint pain. As pets age, they often develop osteoarthritis, leading to stiffness, swelling, and reduced mobility. Acupuncture can help alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and improve joint function. Regular acupuncture sessions can make a significant difference in the comfort and mobility of senior pets, allowing them to enjoy a better quality of life.
2. Hip Dysplasia
Hip dysplasia is a genetic condition that affects the hip joints, causing pain and mobility issues. It is particularly common in large dog breeds. Pet acupuncture can be an effective treatment option for managing the pain and discomfort associated with hip dysplasia. By targeting specific acupuncture points, this therapy can help reduce inflammation, improve blood flow, and enhance overall joint function.
3. Digestive Issues
Digestive problems, such as chronic diarrhea, constipation, and vomiting, can be distressing for both pets and their owners. Acupuncture can help regulate the digestive system, promote better gastrointestinal function, and alleviate discomfort. This natural approach can be particularly beneficial for pets with sensitive stomachs or those who have not responded well to conventional treatments.
4. Anxiety and Stress
Just like humans, pets can experience anxiety and stress. Whether it's due to separation anxiety, loud noises, or changes in their environment, these emotional issues can significantly impact a pet's well-being. Acupuncture for pets can help calm the nervous system, reduce anxiety, and promote a sense of relaxation. This treatment can be especially helpful for pets with behavioral issues or those undergoing stressful situations, such as moving to a new home or adapting to a new family member.
5. Chronic Pain Management
Pets suffering from chronic pain due to conditions like intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), cancer, or post-surgical recovery can benefit from acupuncture. This therapy helps manage pain without the need for heavy medication, making it a safe option for long-term pain management. By stimulating the body's natural pain-relief mechanisms, acupuncture can provide relief and improve the overall quality of life for pets with chronic pain.
6. Allergies and Skin Conditions
Acupuncture can also be beneficial for pets with allergies and skin conditions. Conditions like atopic dermatitis, flea allergies, and food allergies can cause significant discomfort and itching. Pet acupuncture can help boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, and promote healing of the skin. This treatment can be used in conjunction with other therapies to provide comprehensive care for pets with persistent skin issues.
7. Kidney Disease
Kidney disease is a common condition in older cats and dogs. Acupuncture can support kidney function, improve circulation, and enhance overall health. While it may not cure kidney disease, acupuncture can help manage symptoms, reduce discomfort, and slow the progression of the disease.
8. Neurological Disorders
Neurological disorders such as seizures, neuropathy, and degenerative myelopathy can be challenging to manage with conventional treatments alone. Acupuncture can offer a complementary approach to traditional treatments, helping to reduce the frequency and severity of seizures, improve nerve function, and support the overall neurological health of pets.
