sy's reading recs
hi. i read a lot of fanfiction for COD and i love spreadsheets. i try to track my reads, and thought i'd make two reading rec lists. you are currently viewing the non-darkfic list. i've included blurbs from yours truly. the blurbs are short because there are a LOT of recs below the cut. now then.
beyond the read more, you are responsible for reading tags, warnings, and summaries.
pairings are indicated where applicable, although these may change or may not be established yet.
similarly fic ratings may change! again, it's your responsibility to read tags and warnings.
i've checked all the links, but if they're broken, i blame tumblr. there's enough info to find the fic if need be.
do not harass authors with "next part when" bullshit. it's tacky and i hate you.
previous lists: one, two | banner by @/cafekitsune
gaz x reader
Lavender Skies by @yeyinde
Late to the party but gd if you haven't read this, put it at the top of your list. Kebabs, back-up shoes, the feeling of someone knowing you, the pain and sublimity of being in your late 20s...Chef's kiss.
childfree!reader thoughts by @pfhwrittes
Tooth-rottingly sweet bit about finding someone with the same priorities and not being made to feel bad about it. Love it when the boys match-make a lil bit.
The Gym by @secretsynthetic
Very cute piece about meeting trainer!Gaz at a workout class. Kudos to Reader for making it through the class because I would've had to bail if Gaz perceived me for half a second. Love how observant and sweet he is in this.
Pluto by @groguspicklejar
Late to yet another party, but I got sucked in by the premise: 'vampire!Gaz is smitten with a girl who has no desire to be around his kind'. I love how the relationship progresses, the later chapters had me gigglin'. Except for that last chap. I got GOT.
ghost x reader
child free @391780
I tag it from time to time but one of my favorite things to see in fanfic is the love and intimacy of caring for someone. And that's what this is. Among my favorite oneshots I've seen shared in this fandom.
Roommate Simon by @tacticalgirlboss
Roommate Simon could go in so many directions, but I love this particular take. The slow evolution of the relationship from roommate to something else. Made me feel mushy as hell by the end.
Through Me (The Flood) by @peachesofteal
Another drop everything to read fic. Seeing Simon embrace a role he was not expecting to ever fulfill is both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Me with every installment.
soap x reader
mic work by @glossysoap
I have four words for you: Erotic audio artist Soap. Soap's hard at work (🥁), imagining best friend!Reader as the subject of his latest scripts. He is COMMITTED to his job. submissive Soap by @doeidawn
Dizzying. Schedule time to take a lap after reader. Something about that man begging. It needs to be studied and somehow distilled. Into what? I don't know, don't ask me, I can't think straight after re-reading this. bad reservation by @the-californicationist
I think I summed up my reaction to this in my tags: "reader's getting that michelin star dick". A prompt filled by Cali that made me giggle furiously for a smooth ten minutes after reading.
price x reader
Storm Chaser by @/the-californicationist
Save me, biker!Price...save me... Caution: You may need to lie down after reading. Truthfully, I'm terrified of motorcycles. But I would reconsider for this Price.
A Case of You by @alittleposhtoad
One of my favorite new series. A zombie apocalypse where you're hiding out on a remote island in Canada, and who finds you? Just my favorite man. Really enjoy the pieces of worldbuilding and seeing Price interact with what's left of Reader's community.
Words Like Violence by @deadbranch
BodyguardxBodyguard. Two professionals wanting one another and their jobs kind of getting in the way. Suits. Gear. Gloves. Pure catnip. An appearance from Simon that made me laugh, re-read, then rub my hands together like a raccoon.
141 x reader and other pairings
GhostGaz Week by @dragonnarrative-writes - gaz x ghost
Dragon knocked it out of the park on GhostGaz week. I love all of them, but 'afraid of the dark' and 'sweet talk' are two of my favorites.
An Offer You Won't Refuse by @lovifie - gaz x price
You know that clip of Kylo Ren screaming more? That's me, because this makes me want more GazPrice in my life. Delectable. Mean!Price and Gaz calling in a victory.
SCP!141 by @ghouljams - gen tf 141
Incredibly fun and freaky AU that I think has half of my lil circle of friends on here willing to overlook their personal safety to get at SCP-141....I may or may not be among them.
Fancy by @swordsandholly - 141 x reader
Subtle delicious morsels of worldbuilding and bleak, dystopian vibes with vampires. That should be enough to get you started. Had me at the Reba reference.
Tradie 141 by @/pfhwrittes - mix
The way I would be quickly banned from any worksite if they were real. The Tradie!verse is very, very important to me and I eat up every piece that comes out of P's big brain.
Autumn Embers by @/dragonnarrative-writes - 141 x reader
One of the most nuanced takes on the omegaverse paired with some of the hottest smut. The meta is a good place to start, imho, as it underpins the fic and bolsters the plot.
Mission Shenanigans by @kyletogaz - gazsoap x reader
Here's a taste: “You’ve got your tongue shoved in my pussy and you expect for me to be quiet?” Got it? Scurry on over for the oneshot that made me bluescreen at the end.
Service Dog Johnny by @void-my-warranty - ghoap x reader
Interesting spin on Ghoap x Reader that shows a level of intimacy between Simon x Reader (and by extension, Ghoap x Reader), that goes beyond the sex. Yes, the smut is fantastic, but the relationship dynamic hooked me.
Cool Girl x @/peachesofteal - ghoap x reader
As a former 'Cool Girl', reading this is both therapeutic and painful, and fuck me if I don't run to read every update. You will cry, laugh, tear your hair out, and enjoy it.
Fuck-ass mohawk by @sentientcave - ghoap x reader
Reader finally saying what I'm thinking. Fuck-ass mohawk. Hilarious piece. I definitely didn't finish this and think "oh dang I want Reader to be mean to ME". 👀
"romance" in the age of technology by @/pfhwrittes - soap x gaz
Let it be known that Johnny MacTavish is a giver. A good friend. So thoughtful of others. So while Gaz recovers from top surgery, obviously our Scottish saint takes it upon himself (literally?) to cheer him up. Funny and WHEW.

Forgotten Snows
pairing: cate dunlap x fem! reader
tw: mentions of andre, running away, swearing, kissing... that's literally it probably wow
description: cate decides to run away from her supe life, only to find a welcoming new home and maybe something more?
a/n: this low-key feels very rom-com-like lol. also sry for not getting to requests, this idea got stuck in my head and would not leaveee so i obv had to write it. hope you enjoy and lmk ur thoughts <3 ALSO WE NEED MORE CATE FICS PLS
Tumblr media
Cate quickly readjusted her gloves and blew a few strands of blonde hair out of her face. The strong ocean wind beat relentlessly against her exposed cheeks and she cuddled closer into her thick white knit sweater. The cold of the metal railing bit into her arms, making Cate smile. She actually did it. She finally left.
After exposing The Woods and God U for what it was, Cate had made the executive decision to run away. She had caused so much hurt even when all she ever wanted to do was help people. The only person she told was Jordan. Her best friend who had clearly understood what she needed to do. Cate didn’t even tell Andre, fearing that he would somehow convince her to stay.
She didn’t know if she even loved him all that much anymore. Sure, she will always hold him dear to her heart but after everything… So she had scrounged up all the money she had been saving up, somehow coming up with a substantial amount to allow her to buy a little house in a remote island of Canada. It was located near the waterfront (only a 20 minute walk!) and overall the population of the island was about 200 people. Perfect.
Cate had even managed to find a job. Granted it didn’t pay as much as she would have been paid if she became a career supe but it would let her live comfortably for as long as she wanted. The job consisted of being a book editor for a random little online publishing house, which meant she could work remotely and totally online.
The remainder of her money was spent purchasing charter plane and ship tickets as well as a new, much warmer, wardrobe. She was basically moving into the Arctic Circle, which meant that her usual cardigans and shirts weren’t going to cut it.
Tumblr media
Snow crunched under her sturdy boots as Cate hauled up her heavy suitcase along the gravel paths. A few hours ago she had finally arrived in the port of the island that she would now call home. Somehow she had been able to catch a car that was making its way in the general direction of her new house. Unfortunately for her, that same car dropped her off quite a few kilometers from her destination, but she couldn’t blame the elderly couple who looked like they were eager to finally get home.
Her supe stamina was the only thing that seemed to sustain her as she traveled the paths, constantly looking down at the map she had downloaded into her photos. Cate knew that her Google Maps probably would not work at all until she got closer to her new house. She didn’t expect there to be any signal on this island, except near specific houses or the three tiny towns.
The sun was starting to set by the time she had arrived at the path leading directly to her door. The lights inside the house were off but the porch light was on and smoke was coming out from the chimney. Furrowing her eyebrows, Cate turned to look at the house that sat a few paces away from her own and was surprised to see that a woman, about her age, was shoveling snow.
The woman had her headphones in but the gentle hum of her voice echoed through the expanse. She must be her new neighbor.
Cate smiled slightly before starting up her trek again. Finally seeing her destination had given the tired blonde a boost of energy. The clear path leading to her porch allowed Cate to pull her suitcase up more easily and after depositing it next to the door, she turned to look at the woman. Gravel poked into the soles of her boots as Cate made her way to her. Picking up a gloved hand she lightly tapped the woman’s right shoulder.
Tumblr media
Soft folk music echoed through your old headphones. Shoveling snow was monotonous but necessary work. Especially with the newest addition to the island coming today. Cate Dunlap. Unfortunately estate agents weren’t really a thing on an island that sat in the midst of the Arctic Circle. So you had been the one to list everything online and figure a way to sift through all possible applications, which ended up being pretty scarce.
The second home, which your parents used to use as a guest house/office, had been listed for almost a year now. The only three applications you had gotten were from people who either seemed like escaped convicts or generally creepy men. Something that would not do if you were going to be living a few seconds away from them. But then a month ago a saving grace of an application arrived in your email.
Cate Dunlap, 21, single and was willing to move in as soon as possible. The letter that was attached as well as the recommendation made the decision for you. So here you were, after prepping everything inside the house - making sure it was warm enough and stocked up for the week, waiting for Cate to arrive.
What you didn’t seem to realize was that your old headphones were still pretty soundproof. The feeling of a hand against your thick work coat made a loud shriek come out of your mouth before you swiveled around, clutching your chest with one hand and pulling your headphones down with the other.
“Oh shit! I’m so sorry. I thought you-” Oh my God. Cate Dunlap was stunning. Her blonde hair was tucked under a black beanie and a white fisherman’s sweater peaked out from under her thick sage green coat.
“No, no I should be the one apologizing. I was literally expecting you, we just don’t get a bunch of people around here like… ever.”
“You were the one who did all this?” Cate asked as she gestured towards the house.
“Yup, I also stocked up food for like the next week or so.” Her mouth dropped in an incredulous expression.
“You really did not have to do that.”
“Of course I did! I sold you the house plus you deserve a warm-ish welcome to our wonderful little island.” You both let out a small chuckle and Cate continues to brilliantly smile at you.
“Wait, you were the seller? I didn’t realize that you would-”
“Also be living here? Yeah. Your new house was actually part of my family’s property since we built these two places. I’m just living here alone now, and I really don’t need all that space. So…”
“Woah, that’s so cool. It’s nice to actually have a local to help though, I haven’t lived in a place like this well ever.”
“I’ll be here if you ever need anything, and by anything I mean anything. Here, why don’t we get your stuff inside and I can get some tea ready?” You asked as you started to put your shovel away.
“Oh God yes, that sounds incredible right now.”
You pulled out a series of keys from your jacket pocket and swiftly got Cate’s house key out from the bunch. After giving the door a few firm pushes it flew open and the warm air started whooshing out.
“Here quickly, we don’t want the house to get cold.” You both laughed and Cate pushed her suitcase through the threshold. You pushed the door closed behind her and turned towards the blonde who was spinning around and marvelling at the surroundings.
Tumblr media
Cate was completely taken aback by the house, she didn’t expect it to be so home-like already. Movie posters lined the entry of the house, stuff she had actually watched. The floor was hard-wood, which looked insanely expensive. Pulling her suitcase behind her, Cate took peeks at the different rooms that filled the house.
There was a living room which was covered in books, a desk and had stunning paintings covering the remaining walls, this was also where the fireplace was set. A bathroom with a full bath and shower, completely covered in what looked like hand painted tiles. The kitchen was similarly decorated but this time with bright blue tiles and had full appliances plus a huge pantry. Finally there was a bedroom at the end of the house, it was simple and much less decorated but looked cosy. The bed was covered in a variety of furs and there was an antique closet and vanity set. A space heater was also placed on one side of the room.
“So what do you think?” Came a questioning call from the threshold of the bedroom, spinning around she was met with the slightly nervous expression of her neighbor, even if her eyes shined with kindness.
“Oh my God it’s fucking incredible. Did you decorate it all by yourself? I didn’t even realize- wait, I’m so sorry. This was so rude of me but I never asked your name.”
“I’m Y/N L/N, at your service.” Y/N said as she gave Cate a mock bow, making both of them laugh. “And yup I had some extra time after my parents died and well renovating was a great distraction.” You added in a slightly more somber tone, with a wistful look in your eyes.
“Oh shit, I’m so sorry.” Cate started to say as a sad look appeared in her eyes.
“No, don't be sorry. I- they both had cancer, which fucking sucks but I continue to do their work. I miss them you know? They didn’t deserve to leave the world so soon.”
“My parents are both absolute assholes but I understand where you’re coming from. My uh boyfriend… also died, he killed himself”
“Shit, that fucking sucks. I’m so sorry. Ok well let’s get some joy back in here. This is turning into a deeply angsty moment when we should be celebrating you coming here… so why don’t go unpack and I’ll get some tea on.”
“You really don’t have to do that.”
“I want to. Now shoo before I make you.” Cate shuddered slightly in pleasure as Y/N turned around and made her way to the kitchen. God, she thought you were absolutely drop dead gorgeous. How the hell was she going to be able to function with you looking like that?
Tumblr media
The next few weeks were spent in pure bliss for you and Cate. You spent nights at each other’s houses, binging movies on respective laptops or just curling up on the couch reading books. Life had slowed down a bit more for you than Cate job-wise because summer season was coming to an end. That meant shorter days, less tourists and much colder nights.
“So you never actually told me what you do?” Cate had asked one night as you were tucked under the array of furs on your bed as wind and snow howled outside the window.
“Oh I’m a conservationist mostly but I also work at the National Park, giving tours and making sure the habitats of the animals are undisturbed. Other than that I also write a bit.”
“Ooo what do you write, I could get you a deal with my company.” Cate said as she twirled around in the bed to look at you as you threw your head back and a ringing laugh filled the room.
“I don’t think so. My stuff is absolute shit. It’s mostly short stories.”
“Oh come on, it’s not.” Cate said as she softly smacked your shoulder. “And you have to show me one of your short stories sometime.”
“No way.”
“Yes way.”
“No way.” That little playful argument was concluded when Cate pounced on you and started tickling you.
Tumblr media
The first time that your relationship was tested (and very much strengthened) was on a random Tuesday. You had somehow managed to rope Cate into helping you with fixing up your little snowmobile. You sighed loudly and threw down the tools before moving your oil covered hands to smooth over your face, which was definitely a mistake. Now instead of just being frustrated you were also covered in engine oil.
“Shit, that looks…” You sent Cate a glare which had her raising her arms in defeat but still letting a small snicker out of her mouth. “Sorry! What exactly do you need help with?”
“There’s a damn bolt I can’t reach, I swear I need to get some kind of stand for this thing-” You cut yourself off as you watched Cate easily pick up the vehicle and turn to look at you. That was when she realized what she had just done.
“Okay, okay, so before you freak out-”
“How the fuck did you do that? Wait, are you one of those superheroes?” You asked quickly, it felt like the words were just flying right out of your mouth.
“I- uh fuck, yeah I am. Look, if you want to stop being my friend I’m totally fine with that. I’ll even move out-” Cate started to stutter out, panic encased her features making your face soften.
“Woah, woah, woah. Catey I think you’re fucking great. Who cares if you have a little extra something that most normal people don’t. Actually I think it’s pretty fucking cool okay? Don’t you dare leave.” You exclaimed with a passionate tone in your voice as you stepped closer and closer to Cate. You grabbed her hands and looked deeply into her eyes.
“I- I don’t want to leave either.”
“You bet your ass you don’t.” Cate let out a snort and smiled brightly at you. There was something in her eyes that made you take the next move. A move that you had been wanting to make ever since you first saw her.
Carefully moving your face towards hers, you watched to see if Cate was going to pull away, but she didn’t. No, instead she surged forward and grabbed your face with her soft gloves, kissing the very soul out of you.
It didn’t feel exactly like fireworks, it was so much better. It felt almost like experiencing the Northern Lights. An array of beautiful colors and sensations flew behind your closed eyes. It also felt like all your nights cuddled up in bed, sharing a hot chocolate that would sear your tongues with each sip. Cate felt like home.
Tumblr media
whooo that was fun to write. i love her sm - anyways hope you all enjoyed it !!! if there are any inaccuracies, i literally tried to do a bunch of random research but i probably missed some stuff sry so just lmk.

How much would you say COVID affected the production of ATSV (at least on the animation side of things)
little to hardly at all! sony used remote teradici pcoip desktops before covid, so switching to working from home was fairly seamless. we made the switch while we were finishing up mitchells vs the machines (and then i worked on vivo and hotel transylvania 4 before starting on atsv as well), so we had all the wfh wrinkles ironed out before going full force into atsv. we do all our meetings through google meet and use proprietary software to look at/draw on animation playblasts so that lots of other users can see it at the same time on their own screens. it also opened up the opportunity for people to work from further away; we had animators working from various places in the US and eastern canada. i'd say the only way covid affected the production was when somebody actually got sick and had to take time off to recover
unlike a lot of other studios, sony hasn't been enforcing mandatory days we need to be in the office per week, which is awesome because i loved napping too much during my lunch breaks to go into work lol. my job also required me to be in two meetings at the same time all day every day and it was easier on my brain to have one meeting's audio play thru my speakers with the other in one headphone. having to pay attention to two separate meetings in both headphones when i did have to work in the office made me feel like i was having a stroke

this is maybe silly to tell you about but i'm very envious of how smart you seem and the level of grasp you have on theory that feels incredibly scary to me. i was in uni for sociology, and save for one text that i understood from start to finish, the rest of it always felt like it was deleting my brain cells slowly and made me feel stupid, even as smn who had grown up being a "literature" person. i think it's just a matter of getting started, but it all feels embarrassing >>
what I’m about to say is going to sound very masturbatory and self-aggrandising, but that can’t really helped on account of the fact that the topic is what a smart little boy I am
one, thank you! I’m always very flattered when people give me this compliment. I don’t think it’s silly at all. two, I’m pursuing a PhD in the social sciences with the intent to stay in the academy after I get my doctorate, and my particular field of study skews towards critical theory. on average only 1% of people in canada have a PhD, and a fraction of that percentile have my particular academic trajectory - all of which to say, I am an outlier amongst a peer group of outliers, so I’m an extremely bad measuring stick to use when judging your own critical capabilities. I’ve been in post-secondary school for roughly 7 years now and will be in it for at least four more, and for the past 4ish of those years my main source of employment has been teaching and research, so I am both paying for and being paid to read theory and teach it to undergraduate students in small classroom settings. By the standards of academia I’m very junior, but I have a lot of specialised training in talking and reading, which is to say, it’s taken me a very long time to be where I am now. My academic career depends on my ability to produce original thoughts and write them down in a way that both speaks to existing scholarship while contributing new things to said scholarship, so I’m in an environment that enforces a very particular kind of discipline that is not remotely common or normal. Being a graduate student isn’t a rich profession by any means, but you are paid to learn information and write it down - something I would not be able to do if I was working a full time job.
I also frequently don’t understand the shit I’m reading! It’s extremely difficult to read academic texts because they’re meant to be read in classroom settings where you’re forced to voice your confusion, speak with other people about what you’re reading, defend your positions, connect it to other work, synthesise it in essay format, and so on. My live-blogging of books I’m reading is an attempt to simulate that, because I tend to learn best when writing out why I have the opinions I hold. Being confused isn’t a sign of stupidity but rather a simple fact that you’re brushing up against concepts and theories that take people their whole careers to develop and publish.
My own background in academia is also very eclectic, so I know a little bit about many topics, but there are very little topics can I speak authoritatively on - I can’t speak about the state of knowledge on, say, international relations, or critical race legal scholarship, or employment disability policy, but I know vaguely of those things. I’m not even a well-read marxist lol
All of which is to say - I am a horrible metric to compare yourself to. I am one of the few sickos who genuinely wants to remain in the academy for the rest of my life because I sincerely believe in the pursuit and production of knowledge, and my chance to do so is largely dependant on my ability to explain myself to other people. Put another way, I have spent my entire adult life training to be a marginally popular communist tumblrina on a website primarily known for producing supernatural actor porn. So either way don’t feel bad about it

Hi Joy!
I hope this doesn't come across as rude/overstepping, and it's possible you have answered this question before (i cannot find such an ask though, gotta love tumblr). But I was hoping you would be able to give some advice/explain your journey, on how a chronically-ill person looking to become a published authour, and sustain themselves on it, would go about it? From what i've seen on your blog so far, it seems like most indie authours make a pittance for their work (when it's worth so much more), and i'm curious how you're able to make it work without having a second job to supplement income? As you probably well know, it will be extremely hard to have energy to write if one is also chronically ill and having to work full time to live... i'm lucky enough to have some universal healthcare (canada), but that is about it. Also if you prefer not to publicly answer this, please feel free to message me instead! Though also feel free not answer at all, of course- i don't want to put you out. Thank you for all your advice and encouragement for your fans and followers over the years, you really are a joy!
I've posted about it before, goodness knows where it might be in my tags, but the only reason I'm able to work full time as a writer is threefold:
The generosity and support of my patrons on Patreon/Ko-fi/Payhip.
My spouse works full time.
The income I now get from my books.
If I lost any of those three things, I wouldn't be able to write full time, and even then I still take occasional editing gigs to make ends meet.
The truth is, there are very few authors who can make writing their full-time gig—at least not their fiction writing. Many authors have "day" jobs and write on top of that. I've been extraordinarily lucky in that my book sales have been enough to let me scale back my other work, but like I said, I don't make a sustainable living from it.
I'm just no longer financially sinking, which is what was happening for the 5 years in the run up to Phangs being published. Things have stabilized. They've stabilized at rock bottom, but even rock bottom can offer stability when you've been in free fall for almost a decade.
I'm sorry I can't give you more helpful advice, but this is the best known "secret" of the industry. Many authors have day jobs you'll never hear about because it's not associated with their author name.
Unless you manage to get a big book deal—and even then, trad-publishing doesn't pay remotely anywhere near as much as it did unless you're already a big name-- then you will probably be sustaining your work through some other means. I did it for years with editing and then when my blog took off, through Patreon and editing. It's only been a very new development in my life where I've been able to give up editing full-time to write my own stuff instead.
Sorry. I wish there was a secret, but there's not.

🤠 Giddy up! Send in a number+character and i'll write/draw them as that Wild West character trope! 🤠
(Tropes from tv tropes📺 pt1🤠 -- pt2🤠)
1.Bartender - Tends the bar, pours the drinks, and occasionally has valuable advice if you ask.
2. Blacksmith - Someone who shapes tools, weapons and other items out of iron and steel.
3. Bounty Hunter - They capture criminals and bring them back to face trial, or to fill a grave.
4. Camp Cook - called "Cookie", the one responsible for feeding the ranch workers. A classic "bit" for the camp cook is ringing a metal triangle to announce that dinner is ready.
5. City Slicker - They're new to The Wild West, who is flashily dressed in big-city fashions, thinks rural folks are idiots, and isn’t used to manual labor.
6. Clerk - An old-fashioned clerical worker, especially in the fields of bookkeeping and correspondence.
7. Clueless Deputy - Sheriffs often have deputies to assist them. This character is often comedically clueless.
8. Corrupt Sheriff -  An Obstructive Bureaucrat to Small-Town Tyrant, using their position and power for their own personal gain.
9. Cowboy - Has a job herding cattle and spends the majority of their time doing that job. Tend to have more worn clothing and scruffier appearances.
10. Cowgirl - a Plucky Girl in Western garb, who can ride and shoot as well as any cowboy.
11. Drifter Cowboy - Similar to the Cowboy, but wanders semi-nomadically between ranches. May be distrusted and remain at a distance from others.
12. Forty-Niner Prospector - A participant in the California Gold Rush of 1848-1855, seeking their fortune by mining for valuable metals.
13. Frontier Doctor - A physician who works in a remote town. Needed to be tough and resourceful, since supplies were scarce, and the latest equipment and medicines were seldom at hand.
14. Gunslinger - Nobody can draw and fire a gun faster than this guy.
15. Highwayman - aka “road agents”, is a guy who robs rich people traveling in carriages on old-fashioned roads.
16. Hooker With A Heart Of Gold - Any sex worker (prostitute, stripper, adult film actor, etc.) who has some baseline goodness, under that promiscuous exterior lies kindness and a good nature.
17. Hunter Trapper - Makes their living by hunting down animals for their meat and fur. Has excellent survival and woodcraft skills.
18. Lone Cowboy/Ranch Owner - A fellow who is running his own ranch often by himself on a tight budget.
19. Man With No Name - A drifter with a mysterious past and a stoic and aloof demeanor that makes them hard to read.
20. Meek Townsman - An inhabitant of an Adventure Town who isn't too keen on that "adventure" bit. Might be appointed as The Sheriff to deal with impending danger.
21. Miss Kitty - An older woman who runs a brothel. Charismatic when necessary with no tolerance for rowdiness in her establishment. Protects her girls.
22. Most Wanted - Guilty or Innocent, this character is hunted exhaustively by the police, the mob, everyone – wanted dead or alive.
23. Mountain Man - Makes his living in the wilderness of Canada or the northern US, most often as a trapper or hunter.
24. Outlaw - A fugitive from justice fleeing into the wilderness.
25. Preacher - Spiritual leader for the believers in a small community. Usually dressed semi-formally in a black broadcloth suit, and may sport a clerical collar, depending on denomination.
26. Professional Gambler - Someone whose primary source of income is gambling.
27. Railroad Brakeman - Notably remembered for having to walk along the top of the cars and stopping the train by manually turning the braking wheels.
28. Railroad Conductor - The manager of a train and its crew, responsible for all areas of the train other than the engine: making sure the freight is secure, the train is cleared to move, signals when to start/stop the train. On passenger trains, the conductor also announces the route of the train, gives the "all aboard" and collects the passengers' tickets.
29. Railroad Engineer - Responsible for the maintenance of the engine, controls its speed, and requires an intimate knowledge of the route and its peculiarities. Railroad engineers are often portrayed as heroic in fiction, thanks in no small part to many railroad engineers in real life who sacrificed themselves to avoid a massive disaster.
30. Railroad Fireman - aka a stoker, responsible for keeping the engine fire going properly and regulating the boiler. A sort of co-pilot of the train, assisting the engineer and observing what's going on outside the train on the opposite side.
31. Rancher - The owner of a ranch, a spread of land where animals are raised:  usually cattle, but sheep and chicken too.
32. Ram Ranch Cowboy - A Gay Cowboy, typically very masculine, and likely to exhibit many traits associated with machoism and/or sexuality.
33. Retired Gunfighter - This fellow used to be The Gunslinger, but has decided to settle down and hang up his guns, either due to age or family.
34. Rodeo Rider - A working cowboy in the off-season, showing off his riding and roping skills at rodeos. Tends to be more boastful and concerned with winning trophies than other cowboys.
35. Rustler - The Evil Counterpart of the Cowboy who uses the same skill set—riding, roping, and herding—to steal large numbers of cattle and horses.
36. Saloon Owner - The one who makes sure the taps keep a-flowing, the dancers dancing, and the wenches wenching. They often keep tabs on anyone and everyone who comes to the pub.
37. Sheriff - A Reasonable Authority Figure and or Hero, wearing a distinct, star-shaped badge. The position usually comes with great danger and responsibility.
38. Schoolmarm - Teacher of a one-room schoolhouse with a class of students of all ages. Tends to be portrayed as rather prim and proper, and will have the best diction in town
39. Signalman - They regulated the movement of trains, by moving levers to operate points and signals in a signalbox that was alongside the tracks, so the trains wouldn't crash into each other.
40. Singing Cowboy - A cowboy who sings as his primary avocation.
41. Snake Oil Salesman - A Con Man who makes their living by selling products which could not possibly work as advertised. The classic version sells literal snake oil (a product with 'medicinal' properties and exotic, unknown ingredients).
42. Southern Belle - An upper class rich girl from the Deep South, usually wears a Pimped-Out Dress, carries a parasol, and speaks in the most profound southern accent. May be subject to fainting or saying, "Well, I do declare!”
43. Southern Gentleman - A well-dressed, well-spoken (even when swearing up a blue streak), charmin', suave and invariably polite man. Associated with wearing a white suit of light material (especially in summer), corncob pipe that nevertheless manages to look dignified, and mint julep.
44. Undertaker - Is fairly nondescript with a somber air, aside from that morbid cheerfulness and focus with which they go about their death-oriented business.
45. Young Gun - a younger, hot-headed, and impetuous version of The Gunslinger, looking to make a name for themselves.

Workers at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) have voted in favour of strike action Friday ahead of mediation talks set to take place later this month. The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), which together with its subcomponent the Union of Taxation Employees represents 35,000 CRA workers, said in a statement members voted "overwhelmingly" for strike action, and will be in legal strike position as of April 14. The union is seeking wage increases, more flexibility on remote work and improved job security and work-life balance. Union members have not had a collective bargaining agreement since Oct. 31, 2021.

So I've been wanting to like, transfer to one of my company's Canada branches so I can move up there, but I looked into it and they don't seem to do the same work, and it I think wouldn't be remote. So like I'll probably have to get hired by some random other company. And like. I think the work I do now is like. Pretty rare? I can't find job listings for it at least. Though I didn't check like all of Canada. But anyway like finding something I know I'll be good at is. Hard. Bc I only have one skill, really. Job market being what it is, I'm like. Wondering if it would just be more convenient to apply for jobs pretending to be a cis guy and then come out later after I already have the job. On the one hand, I'd dodge the inherent transphobia in the system. But on the other hand, I'd be like. Betraying my trans identity, or whatever. And more importantly it would suck ass. But I'd have a job and could move out of this country.
Fuckin bullshit that I can't just keep doing my current job but move away.

CANADA 2025
Okay - so I am working from home, Max and Wax are also sick (testing negative for C-vid though), and over lunch we were discussing the 3-months we want to live in Canada in 2025. And how much money we need to save for it (which for a family of 4 is substantial).
ANYWAY - we spent my lunch break going through the bank account and figuring ways of saving money and cutting back costs. We talked about how we are lucky to live very comfortably, but that there were MANY ways we could make Canada work out. (Need to save ~$1k/fortnight for 2 years).
They REALLY want to go and live in Canada for a few months so... we're looking at doing the following:
No more cleaners
Getting rid of subscriptions we do not use
No more takeaways and eating-out or coffees etc.
Getting rid of second car + using public transport (or cycling)
Not replacing broken dishwasher
Growing more of our own vegetables (seeds/plants from friends etc.)
Minimising/reducing other costs (beauty treatments, haircuts etc.)
Currently putting $307/fortnight into a savings account because we paid of a separate part of our mortgage, so we just transferred the payments to a separate account named "CANADA"...
Also we only have one shot of doing this now - it can only be October/November/December 2025 as all the years after impact the boys' high schooling when they have exams etc. We'd have to pull them out of school for an entire term (and put them in home schooling, or do it via distance through the school - we'd make it work). Work already knows I am planning on doing this and I can work 2-3 days a week remotely (FROM CANADA) while using my annual leave which I am slowly accruing.
Hubs CANNOT work remotely (the security for his job is FAR tighter than it is for mine!), so he may only come for 6 weeks, however that would still be amazing.

Tech jobs requirements prt 1 | Resource ✨
Tumblr media
I decided to do my own mini research on what languages/frameworks/tools and more, are required when looking into getting a job in tech! Read below for more information! 🤗🎀
Tumblr media
The website I have used and will be using for this research is Otta (link) which is an employment search service based in London, England that mostly does tech jobs. What they take into consideration are:
ꕤ Where would you like to work? (Remote or in office in UK, Europe, USA and, Toronto + Vancouver in Canada)
ꕤ If remote, where you are based?
ꕤ If you need a visa to work elsewhere
ꕤ What language you can work in? (English, French, Spanish, etc)
ꕤ What type of roles you would like to see in your searches (Software Engineering, Data, Design, Marketing, etc)
ꕤ What level of the roles you would like? (Entry, Junior, Mid-Level, etc)
ꕤ Size of the company you would like to work in (10 employees to 1001+ employees)
ꕤ Favourite industries you would like to work for (Banking, HR, Healthcare, etc) and if you want to exclude any from your searches
ꕤ Favourite technologies (Scala, Git, React, Java, etc) and if you want to exclude any
ꕤ Minimum expected salary (in £, USD $, CAD $, €)
With this information, I created a dummy profile who is REMOTE based IN THE UK with ENTRY/JUNIOR level and speaks ENGLISH. I clicked all for technologies and industries. Clicked all the options for the size of the company and set the minimum salary at £20k (the lower the number the more job posts will appear) I altered my search requirements to fit these job roles because these are my preferred roles:
ꕤ Software Developer + Engineer
ꕤ Full-Stack
ꕤ Backend
ꕤ Frontend
ꕤ Data
I searched 40 job postings so far but might increase it to 100 to be nice and even. I will keep updating every week for a month to see what is truly the most in-demand in the technology world! I might be doing this research wrong but it's all for fun! ❀

so incredibly fucked how whenever ever we get inklings of capitalism or fascism failing we immediately get ppl saying ‘oh but think about the ppl that will be affected by this they will suffer if the system is slightly inconvenienced and they will use either sympathetic language or misappropriate social justice language. like with the railway workers in the USA seeing mainstream news coverage about it being potentially devastating for the economy as a reason for the government to take action by crushing these workers instead of materially improving their conditions. or when shinzo abe got shot and the queen died and all us global brown ppl who have been directly affected by these families’ crimes celebrating and ppl being like ‘life is hard for people in japan and the UK’ like yeah duh they are fascist and colonial forces from east to west. the logical conclusion should be that these forces should be abolished beyond their deaths, not telling ppl to watch their mouth lol. like we honestly live in a dystopic society wherein every minor oppressive failure is ‘actually bad because ppls lives could get temporarily worse’ that is NOT because of these minor actions though. anyone who has done even an inkling of historical or decolonial research knows that because colonialism was such a violent force that the process of decolonization will also be violent. it is impossible for it to not when england expects however much money to have been dedicated to the queens war crime celebration funeral. and the thing in the suez canal too. i saw some anarchists be like ‘um think of the working class people who will suffer from their jobs being halted’ as if they are not already full of exploitation migrant labour or being ransacked by the western world… like actually i am praying for the wests downfall and global indigenous sovereignty and the removal of all US military bases and sanctions. I also think all south american, asian, and african nations should kick western resource extraction companies out of their land and we should all be making fair trade deals w each other. and in canada we should abolish the treaties which are coercive by nature and completely rehaul the extraction industries - no more canadian owned mines and man camps and to get rid of the contemporary indian agent and require everyone in med school to serve in remote areas w free health care etc etc like in cuba… anyway… every time there is small usually accidental failure of capitalism everybody’s inner liberal comes out so they can be the most sympathetic or whatever… it’s annoying i hope the US dollar and the pound drop more 🙏🏼

Apologies to my readers and mutuals for not being very active for the last couple of months.
Abridge Summary: Since summer I’ve been dealing with wildfire scares, soon fallowed by personal health struggles, so I haven’t been in the best mental/creative state…
Now that the rain has returned and my health is on the mend, I’m eager to get back into writing my fanfics and drawing fan art again. I’m going to try and get the next part to Moon Knight and Sun King done by the end of the weekend, though it will be shorter than I originally planned I really want to get something posted for my readers, as many of you have been so patient and supportive I really wanna give something back as thanks. =3
If you wish to know more, I’ll put a more detailed explanation under read more:
I’ve touched very briefly on here that I live in BC Canada and the wildfires that swallowed up most of the province during this last summer. (I’m not sure how many people are aware of how bad the fires were here, if interest I’m sure a google search or even a search on Tumblr will give a quick idea of what state of thing here were like.)
First I want to say that I’m lucky and very grateful, I didn’t loose my home during the fires unlike many other people… I know I just said I would go into more detail here but as I was trying to write about my experiences and stresses. It felt hallow compared to people who’ve lost their homes, or work place, or other important close to their heart thing, to the fires. So I’ll just say Rain has returned and the fires are gone now, and even though it doesn’t magically bring back what the fires took, the rain does feel like a welcomed relief.
In regards to my health for the last few months I’ve been struggling with long haul C-19 symptoms. (Sadly around the time I contracted C-19 it overlayed with the fires so the smoke didn’t do my capabilities to breathe any favours). It’s felt like a domino effect as my struggles with breathing, led to me having struggle with sleeping, the lack of sleep then caused my heighten anxieties to be extra sensitive. There were times my mind was in such a fog that I thought of something that trigger me into having an anxiety attack that triggered me to go into a coughing fit and when I was done with the coughing fit, I couldn’t even remember what I was thinking about before the coughing fit! I would like to say this only happened a few times, but sadly for almost two weeks that’s just the vicious cycle my brain and body was in.
But again I’m lucky and I’m grateful, as I have wonderful housemates that helped take care of me, and so glad that my main job has great remote options that allowed me to (somewhat) keep working and more importantly keep getting paid while I was sick. (Though in truth my work days were mostly me working for maybe an hour or two, before crashing and then trying to do more work for a couple more hours before crashing again/getting an aura migraine rendering me unable to work till it passed. Very slowly getting tasks done as I went.)
Basically for the last few months I’ve been struggling to function enough to do what I need to do to survive and had no energy to do much else, but I am getting better, slowly but surely. I’m going to do my best to keep working on my creative projects such as my fanfics and fan art, but it’s going to be slow going as I’ve fallen behind on a lot in my life that needs to be caught up on as well.
For now I just want to say thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to make more for all of you to enjoy soon. ^-^
