Tumblr Post Restorations is a not-for-profit service founded yesterday to restore the fine posts of [tumblr] dot com. Our technicians have extensive experience in blogging, with certifications in reading old style nested reblogs, recognizing users after url switches, and imagining what could've been there before a community guidelines takedown.
As Tumblr's users and posts continue to age, Tumblr Post Restorations will only become a more and more necessary part of the post preservation process. Donate your time today to ensure beautiful heritage posts tomorrow.

First Ghost doodle page of the year! As I test out a new way of maybe drawing their cloak, based on a headcanon of mine.
#hollow knight#little ghost#hk ghost#the knight#basically. the vessels' ''cloaks'' are without a doubt part of their body in some way. given that the dead vessels in the abyss have them#so... i figure maybe they're wings? admittedly i don't know enough about bug biology to know what else would make sense#(. though bug biology *does* go out the window when talking about vessels regardless dgshfgsf)#but there are other instances of tendril-y wings in the game (eg radiance grimmchild maskflies belflies etc) so! visually it checks out#but for whatever reason. ghost's wings don't naturally work#could be that they just hatched that way. could be from damage from the abyss. could be from the void halting the wings' development#not sure! but the mothwing cloak and monarch wings restore some functionality to ghost's natural wings#with whatever magic is embedded within the items#the mothwing cloak lets ghost propel themself forward with their wings#and the monarch wings temporarily transforms them into wings that actually work properly#so anyway! i decided to test out making the cloak more wing-like! ghost can wrap them around the front of their body#or they can just rest behind them like a cape#and they're translucent so some of their dark colour just comes from them being up against ghost's body#not sure if i'll keep drawing the cloak like this but! it was neat to test out at least!#and i'm really happy with how these three drawings came out <3#good first art of the new year! ...even if i actually did the lineart in 2024 and just procrastinated on doing the shading dgsgshf

im gonna be reallly annoying here for a second grrm shouldve added so much more linguistic diversity to westeros. especially the north and ESPECIALLY north of the wall. also there's no way daenerys's mothertongue would be high valyrian. thank you.
#high valyrian doesnt occupy a prestige position in westeros + the central targ household of 5-10 are the only ones that speak it + the only#practical purpose it served was for communicating with dragons and even that became unnecessary almost 2centuries beforehand + she wasnt#surrounded by anyone with enough knowledge in HV to back up their restorative aims. viserys would looove to speak it but there was literall#nobody in his life who wouldve or couldve taught it to him#it wouldve died out/become obsolete within like. 10 years after the dance and even thats being super generous#im a linguistics major sorry let me be a pain#valyrianscrolls#asoiaf meta#sorry to clarify i mean that we dont see valyrian being adopted by the lords as a means to signal their high rank#the language is very firmly restricted to the main targ household#so its like. if theyre not using it for diplomatic purposes#and if theyre not using it to control the dragons#and theyre also not using it to index their social rank#and theres also literally fucking nobody else speaking it#then it serves no purpose because the targs also all spoke common#all it takes is a couple of generations of lax tutelage and the king realizing Hey teaching this to our kids is kinda functionally useless#and it dies out. maybe except in maester circles i can imagine theres scholarly interest in it but even then thats not enough to sustain it

i think ronan lynch has a disproportionate level of carbon emissions and further more has an infinite capacity to stop climate change and has done nothing. how did blue tolerate this i would be at his throat.
#cancel him boys#carmen with her million flights is on thin fucking ice#he made one carbon free camaro. he could supply a clean energy source to the world#he could dream up public transit#(not that ronan would make a logical functional system)#oh we have to replace our rails to change to high speed its a whole thing? he could do it#he could dream functional carbon capture (besides the greenwashing types). restore ecosystems#instead his ass is making manipulative blond men#yknow he wld try to do some of this to humor blue w no research just vibes and it would terribly unbalance an ecosystem or something

So...what do we think of the way lab rats handled Taylor's disability? Personally, I think they did a decent job narratively. They steered away from "this is a sci-fi type of show so we can just 'fix' the disability". The visor Douglas made for her basically functions like a cane would, except its more compact and on her face, but all it does is tell her when an obstacle is in front of her...like a cane would. She's still blind. That doesn't go away. Taylor goes on missions again as the hero she is, even with her disability. She's disabled and she can go on missions.
I say narratively because there were a few comments about "a newbie, a quitter and a blind girl!" and with how Leo wanted the doctors to "fix it", but as far as Leo's comments go, he mostly felt guilty about his actions altering her way of life forever, which it did.
Seriously, what do we think? I'm not physically disabled myself, but I'm taking a class where we talk about this stuff and I was reminded of this Taylor plotline recently. I've been thinking about this all day.
#technically i do have a disability but its adhd and i don't usually think of it as a disability even tho it is#but i'm not all that qualified to talk about physical disabilities#i just find it interesting that lab rats chose this route#bc they could have used the cliche trope in scifi and had taylor's vision be restored by the end of the two parter through some BS science#but they followed through and kept it in AND let her continue to be badass#which i think was pretty cool of them#the enhanced spatial awareness isn't as high tech as it sounds bc its just vibrating when it senses an obstacle#but its also a good accommodation for missions and training when she needs her hands free#so they added tech but not to “fix it”. just to help her navigate the world WITH her disability#lab rats#taylor krane#disability#blindness#it also helps that she had enhanced bionic senses already#IN ADDITION i find it interesting that they went the “fix it with bionics” route TWICE for leo but not for taylor. narratively I mean#logically eyes are more difficult to fix than limbs since there are much finer parts and functions involved#rebuilding that would be more difficult than building things in like with chase. chase's bionic eye likely uses some of chase's original#eye function. his eyesight wasn't recreated from scratch#but from a writing perspective they could have given her different damage that could be “fixed” with bionics but they didn't

I'm gonna be real, so little of previous games have actually mattered in any way beyond flavor text that I literally could not give less of a shit about this whole debacle. Like it's such a non-issue to me. Idk what games y'all have been playing for 15 years but truly this is the norm. Barely anything carried over from Origins to Hawke and all pretty minor shit, and I genuinely cannot think of anything beyond flavor text carrying over to Inquisition. Oh you could customize Hawke and they can answer a few vague questions with vague bullshit? Cool, presumably that's what the Inquisitor will give us. Like idk guys but I think maybe building up your expectations for a decade has had a detrimental effect on what should be reasonable expectations for a video game that's truly been in development hell for like eight years and wants to be functionably playable to brand new players without alienating them.
#like i played inquisition first and THEN played the first two and i didn't really lose anything doing it like that#it functioned as a fun game in a bubble that parcelled background info in small digestible codex snippets#then after playing the other games there was more IMPACT in new playthrough but no major revelations#honestly i think i probably had MORE fun playing Inquisition first that i would have if i'd played origins and hawke beforehand#presumably that's what they're aiming for with veilguard and honestly i'm super chill with that#i hope they once again succeeded in making both a good bubble video game AND reasonable sequel#like they set it a decade later for a reason guys: i'm pretty sure most major inquisition decisions will be old news by then#'oh a shitty mage/assassin/cop is the divine? she has been for like twelve years get over it grandpa'#'oh the circles are restored/abolished? yeah we know little timmy the mage was born AFTER the mage revolt of :41 and is doing fine'#'hey what happened with all those wardens fucking about in orlais during the breach crisis? literally who gives a fuck that was AGES ago'#look. i just cannot comprehend getting genuinely bent out of shape about this. like are you also still made about origins' epilogue slides?#dragon age: the veilguard#by apples

Just wanted to say that your whimsy and unironic enjoyment of things continues to be a passive inspiration for me: at one point today I thought "Damn I should really learn to calm down about this character. Shame I can never be as enthusiastic as I am about some of the characters I like because it's probably considered weird or cringe to like them." And immediately afterwards I went "No. Tumblr user Starleska doesn't live their life with 100% unrestrained enthusiasm and love for characters just for me to be a chicken." askdjhkjadkjdh
buddy!!!! you're going to make me cry, thank you so much 😭😭😭💖💖💖 i'm honoured to hear that!! y'know, over the past...ten? years or so, my goals in life have shifted a lot, as have the things i value. i realised at some point that i may never be able to achieve the kind of success most "gifted" (undiagnosed) kids envision for themselves...but i can always make things a little happier for myself and other people. being unapologetically enthusiastic about things is something i've always valued in other people, and it's a gift i want to pass on 🫡 my question for you is: what will you achieve by calming down about the things you love? the approval of some ignorant folks who equate enthusiasm with a lack of restraint, intelligence, or fake cool points? bro, who wants validation from people like that anyway 😂 and you never know when you yelling about the things you love might spark that same love in other people!! isn't that what fandom has always been about? 💖
#forgive me. i've been thinking about this a lot lately specifically in relation to being late-diagnosed autistic#but my worldview switched radically when i started viewing my interests and enthusiasm for things not as a defect#but as a restorative and empowering thing which is admirable and necessary for my wellbeing and functioning!!#the fact is that autistic people (because let's be honest this site is brimming over with diagnosed AND undiagnosed autistic people)#have had to squash their interests to be palatable for neurotypical folks forever...while they benefit from the “acceptable” things we make#quite honestly? i'm done with it#it isn't that i do very well in my professional work and my yelling about fictional characters is a shameful secret to be fixed#it's that i yell about fictional characters because it HELPS me do very well in my professional work#cringe culture is ableist down to its core and this is a hill i will die on#so hold my hand and climb over the Mountain of Shame#i promise the grass is much greener on the other side 🫡💖#fandom#neurodivergence#starleskasks

Just wanted to thank you for taking the time and effort to put together the long climate/environment post, especially the online resources. I've wanted to replace the neglected/dead non-native plants at my place with native plants for months, but didn't know where to start my search for species except to walk around my local nature preserve trying to find something that isn't invasive lol. I'll be able to start (re)introducing native plants this month because of you :-)
Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad the post has been helpful and inspiring. If you'd like more directed guidance on native plants, I can probably point you in the right direction if you can give me a general area to work with (state would suffice!). In general, go for keystone species- those that are common in your area and support many kinds of insects- or pollinator favorites, or host plants for rare/imperiled butterflies/bees/moths.
#glad I could help :)#unfortunately I think too many people forget that helping the environment is much more than recycling or taking public transit#the most direct tangible difference comes from preserving habitat#because that's where ecosystem services come from - clean air and water and carbon sequestration and fish/game habitat#and much more. we need biodiversity and functioning ecosystems to be able to cope with climate change. if habitat is lost and#fragmented then local populations of plants and animals will struggle to persist#they need to be able to move through the landscape safely. to migrate and shift their ranges and find food#they need to maintain gene flow and a source of new individuals to keep populations alive#habitat fragmentation is as insidious a threat as habitat loss. every time a new housing development is built we chop up the land more#but it's easy to restore those stepping stones#and the effects are measurable. you'd be surprised how many species including rare ones can show up in these little patches#because a corridor can support many more species than each patch alone. connection trumps isolation. connection saves us.#the earth is a living breathing thing. the soil is alive the water is alive. this entire biosphere coevolved together. we can't break it up

Can't remember if you've been asked this before so sorry if you have, but what are your favourite con panels that you've watched? (like as a whole or for particular moments).
initial clarification that i don't really have preferences for supernatural panels minus that they have jared and/or jensen in it at some point and because to the extent that i am able to experience a con through recordings, this isn't a production of any kind, there aren't any controlled aspects that i am able to criticise or look at specifically and these are just some guys hanging out that i. observe. like i don't have a '''favourite''' memory of hanging out with my friends it's all just fun, yk?
okay to keep this list as short as possible i just scrolled through my two supernatural playlists and just picked at whatever thumbnails stood out to me (they wouldn't have stood out if i didn't particularly enjoy myself watching them) then went through my #jaytwo tag and added based on the same metric of enjoyment/moments that mean a lot to me
jared's eyecon 2008 panel
vancouver '11, main (i tend to really like their vancon panels)
nerd hq '11 & '12 of course
vancouver '13, gold
vancouver '14, main
minnesota '18, both
nashville '19, main
j2 jib8
nashville '17, main
nashville '16, main
j2 virtual '21
this also made me realise 1) just how many panels they've done (recently watched one from 2018 that was their 100th con, which meant there were approx 200+ panels that included jared, jensen or both of them), 2) how little i've actually watched—i became a j2 fan in early october 2024 and i didn't start watching cons regularly till mid-october, and even then i've maybe watched only approx 70 or so, 3) how many earlier con recordings were just never made/are just little clips of the panel because there was no concrete ritual around con-going on for the fandom until maybe season six OR the amount of pre-2013 con recordings have just straight up been lost because of the degradation of youtube and other fandom sites, and 4) i need to organise these playlists before i go crazy
#not sure why i rambled so much#i opened too many youtube tabs that firefox froze my whole computer#and i had to kill it entirely then built this list through the 'restore tabs' function#i also need to watch more jib panels but they're so short 😭 they're usually really fun but they make me sad cause of how short they r#same goes for gold panels#quaerit

i don't think the implementation would be all that feasible or that it would be easy to make a simple enough function but honestly i would love for it to be possible to train pals to have certain passives (if they don't already have 4) i.e. petting a pal after bringing a wild pal to low health and then capturing it x amount of times would lead to it learning mercy hit
#plus i feel like it would bring a more fulfilling functionality to petting#bc it's cute and fun#but since i don't think it restores san right now it's not really something i feel most players want to do#Palworld#Falling Apart and Coming Together#also breeding is great to pass on passives but the random nature of how they inherit makes it fairly laborious imo#another example is setting a pal not to attack and then receiving x amount of damage y amount of times to gain burly body#or if the player takes that damage instead they learn stronghold strategist

if i could be a real cunt for a moment about instagram interior designers: i do not understand “dopamine decor”. putting things you like in your house without regard for the public’s opinion??? that’s what you’re supposed to do anyway??? it’s your house not the public’s house???
#evil lair llc#also god gives his most gorgeous wormy chestnut pieces to his most fucked up flippers but that’s neither here nor there#looking at flippers is bad for my blood pressure but that’s what insta thinks i want. no. show me not that#i do think flippers are an important part of keeping shit out of the landfill and i don’t think they’re actually making their prices most#of the time. but by god are most of them very bad at actually fixing up pieces and making them functional again#and like you can un-paint a piece. clearly. it happens a lot of the time. it’s just very hard to watch someone blow through veneer that#can’t be legally harvested any more#although i did watch a professional restorer steam out some dents in the exact same zebrawood desk i own and now i feel way more confident#about doing that myself#the trouble with me is that my whole house is based on things that were available at the time i was looking for a couch or a coffee table#or a kitchen set#like i would have never envisioned my couch or my coffee table or my kitchen set if you had asked me what i wanted before hand#but i DID know that i really wanted them when i saw them.#none of these tags are related im just tired and rambling

At the bus stop one time there was a gaggle of preschoolers waiting to catch the bus for a field trip day, and someone walked past with a couple of friendly little dogs, to great general delight.
But after a little bit, the dogs were getting overwhelmed, and the preschoolers were gently coaxed to back off so the person with the dogs could continue on. Specifically, one of the preschool teachers said, "Sometimes, when you're small, being surrounded by big people can be a bit scary and overwhelming. Even if they are friendly."
This was recieved as great wisdom: after all, the preschoolers were also small, and understood how scary and overwhelming big people could be! And the dogs were indeed even smaller than the preschoolers, so it made sense.
What was funny and charming was that, upon absorbing and reflecting on this wisdom, they all felt the need to tell it to one another. In tones of great insight, they turned to one another and said, "Did you know? Sometimes when you are small, being surrounded by big people can be scary and overwhelming! Even if they are friendly!" Back and forth, without any particular concern that they were all saying the same thing. Have reached comprehension of an insight, it must be shared!
I must say that this behavior is less charming in tumblr users than in preschoolers. Not least because tumblr users, having gained a little analytical skill to misuse, insist on Summarizing and Generalizing and Unifying the insights they repeat, quickly turning any interesting new information into formulaic dogmatic mush.
#i made the mistake of looking in the notes of the beach sand post i reblogged to see if anyone else had interesting comments#And the rate at which it went from like#1) person states with moderate confidence an opinion based on their personal observations#2) multiple people reply with “wow thats so insightful!” (aka it aligns with my preconceived notions of how things work)#3) someone else adds additional personal observations which are not really relevant but which can be absorbed into the narrative#4) people start outright stating the underlying belief on which this bias is constructed as if it were a fresh insight#5) general derisive attitude towards people who haven't seen the Obviously Correct solution to this complex real world problem yet#It's very.......#It's not like it's a high stakes post but it's such a microcosm of the whole dogmatic phenomenon#Also this js a more specific gripe to My Field or w/e#But the degree to which people react to the problems caused by the whole “Control of Nature” era of engineering#with this equally reductive “Nature will Fix Everything” type of attitude#Is sooooo frustrating.#Yes a great many of our current problems could have been avoided if we had not made massive changes to ecosystem processes on the assumptio#That they were simple and we understood them. And that they would respond in predictable ways.#the simplicity in retrospect of “wow we Should Not have done that” does not mean that they are simple to undo!#You can't go back in time. You can't turn back the clock on chaotic processes#Which is. Almost every process ever.#Restoration is hard! Returning to previous regimes of sediment or flooding or fire is tricky and full of foibles!#Moving towards a future which doesn't suck as much even if the past cant be recreated is also uncertain and difficult!#It's frustrating to see people act all high and mighty about how they Respect Nature unlike whoever is making all these decisions#When their understanding of the natural processes in question is AS simplistic as the people who caused the whole mess back in 1910 or w/e#Like I'm not saying there's not bad interests standing in the way of functional restoration on all levels#That's very much a fight to be fought.#But looking at that fight-in-process and saying “wow none of you Respect Nature like me uwu let nature fix it”#Is.#Ugh.
