Why does Retroflag have completely perfect analog sticks and C-sticks for modern Gamecube repros but they don't license them out or sell them to other manufacturers for their own, I love these things. I asked Retroflag for a spare set of them and they happily sent them along for "free" (pay shipping only) and I dumped them into DOYOKY Retro joycons for Gamecube authenticity.

All they use them for is their Gamecube themed slide-in Switch controller!!!!!!! I want billions of spares of them so I can slot them into ANY Gamecube themed controller because they all fit modern stick boxes just fine.

Retro Controllers

1. Gamecube controller

The key features of this are the yellow joystick, the grips ,the A button and the B button mostly because those are the only parts that are colored. There are 5 buttons, a d-pad, 2 joy sticks and 2 triggers so it's basically the same as your standard controller. The grips make it so that it's comfortable to hold and with certain buttons being easy to identify playing games with it would be easy. What makes this unique is that the buttons not only have different colors but they are also different sizes for example the A button is massive compared to the other ones.

2. SNES controller

The key features of this are the buttons on the right. There are 6 buttons a d-pad and 2 triggers. I'd say these are a lot less comfortable compared to a controller that does have a grip however since this is small you won't have a problem reaching all the buttons. What makes this unique is that there is no joy stick there is only a d-pad meaning this controller was only used for games with 4-directional movement.

3. NES Controller

The key features of this is the A button and the B button. There are 4 buttons and 1 d-pad. Nothing looks comfortable about these at all because the corners and edges would stick in your hand and leave marks there whilst your done playing. What makes this controller unique is that there are only 2 buttons and no triggers so the games that were played with this were mostly likely very simple games.

4. Atari joystick

The key feature of this is the joystick and the red button which are also the only things on this controller. This looks like a comfortable controller as you can just have it on your lap you don't really need to hold it in the air. What makes this controller unique is that it doesn't have a lot of buttons but still has a joystick so the kind of games you could play are really simple 8 directional games.

5. Retroflag controller

The key feature of this is how curved it is and the 6 buttons on the right. There are 8 buttons, a d-pad and 2 triggers. This looks comfortable because of the curve which can help you grip the controller better and having all those buttons on the side could make it easier to access. What makes this controller unique is the 6 buttons usually there is a max of 4 buttons on the right.

Found this little guy at a thrift store today! I have no idea what it's original purpose was, considering how it's not in fact a Sega Genesis, but it has already been gutted anyways.

Makes a cool display thing though, and a neat prop if I were to ever get into American girls or something.

Project Summer Fun - NesPi4 Build - Part 1 The Build

So here we are it's the middle of July and as work slows down I tend to look for fun things to do. This summer I want to playt some retro video games like Tetris, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Space Harrier. Games from my childhood as I grew up in the 8-bit and 16-bit console era. Since I do not have an older TV to play these older systems on I think I am going to build a retro game console.

To do this I am going to need some parts. So here is the parts list:

Raspberry Pi 4B 4GB (that should be plenty of Ram for most every retro game I want to play)

Retroflag NES-PI 4 case. This case is awesome. It looks like a retro Nintendo Entertainment System case. It has an AC adapter, SATA SSD adapter cartridge and a CPU cooler in the box. It is the perfect retro gaming case for this project. It even has working power and reset buttons.

2.5 inch SSD drive or a Micro SDXC UHS1 drive. If you are using a Micro SDXC flash drive you will need a USB card reader.

Micro HDMI to HDMI cable.

8BitDo SF30 Pro game pad. It is designed like a Super Nintendo Entertainment System controller, only wireless. It also has the benefit of having dual analog sticks. This should allow for game emulation up through the PS2.

Batocera Linux.

Raspberry Pi Imager

PUTTY

USB Keyboard and mouse

A PC (Mac, Windows, or Linux)

Got a c-stick from a Retroflag USB-C controller onto the Doyoky Retro, so now my nostalgia and my autism are appeased. I would have used an OEM Gamecube c-stick but I'd already carved out the Retroflag one and I figured it goes well with the ABXY buttons that are also not 100% accurate and I'm too lazy/frustrated to fashion up accurate replacements for.
