Here to fill the void for non-explicit Carol x Therese prompts! 😉
Can we have Therese planning a birthday surprise for Carol? Maybe she gets a little stressed out bc she doesn’t have that much money so she can’t buy any extravagant gifts or book a fancy restaurant the way Carol does for her but she plans something adorable and romantic and Carol is so happy
Tumblr media
“I didn’t ever think it would come to this,” Abby exhaled, the smoke from her cigarette curling into the air as she watched it float away, disappearing into the air.
“You should really stop that, Aunt Abby,” Rindy sighed, shaking her head at her pseudo aunt as Abby merely winked at her, trying to tousle her hair as the girl dipped away with a screech.
“Not all of us have younger women to fall in love with who persuade us to quit smoking,” Abby explained dramatically to the younger girl as Therese took her turn at rolling her eyes. Though her dynamic with Abby had changed vastly over the past few years, the woman never missed an opportunity to throw a good jab out, especially at Therese’s sake. The only thing that made her feel better was that it was certainly in light jest even if there was some truth trickling around the edges of it, and knowing that Abby gave Carol an even harder time than she did with the brunette when it came to teasing.
“You have Rindy,” Therese smirked, tapping the eraser of her pencil lightly against the girl’s hand as she giggled. “She’s younger than you and you’re in love with her. And as her favorite aunt, you’d do anything for her, right? So might as well quit for her.”
“Because you’re in love with me,” Rindy snickered. “Thanks, T.”
“Of course,” Therese grinned, squeezing her shoulder. “Now if the aunt of the year and the love of her life could turn their focus to me so we could actually get to planning for Carol’s birthday, that would be swell.”
“And way out of character for this trio,” Abby mumbled, stubbing out the cigarette against an empty dish she’d stolen out of the cupboard much to Therese’s chagrin. Though she couldn’t blame her. Carol used to do the same.
“Okay,” Rindy nodded, swinging her legs back and forth under the table as she bounced in her chair with excitement. “What did mom do for your birthday, T?”
“Oh, I’ll tell you kid,” Abby chuckled. “But we wait until you’re 18 alright.”
“Abby,” the brunette snapped. The other woman held her hands up in surrender.
“Kidding!” Abby assured Rindy before mumbling quietly to herself, “not.”
Therese cleared her throat, intent on not thinking about what Abby was insinuating, but probably for very different reasons. Because Carol had shared something very intimate with her for her birthday, but it left her flustered and red to think about and it was certainly nothing she was going to discuss in front of her future daughter and Carol’s best friend/ex girlfriend. The more tame parts of that leading up to it, however…
“Carol took me to Chicago,” Therese continued, smiling down at Rindy. “We stayed in a beautiful hotel. Had a fancy dinner. She bought me a gorgeous camera.”
“A hotel in Chicago, huh?” Abby smirked, leaning back in her chair as she stared at Therese pointedly.
Neither of the older women missed the faint blush that passed over Therese’s cheeks, each knowing the significance of the location and Carol’s desire to perhaps recreate their past and do things a bit differently this time. Turning back the clock a bit, only to race ahead of the memory.
“Anyway,” Therese sighed, shooting a warning glare at Abby, before she continued. “We all know I can’t pull something as marvelous together as Carol can, and I don’t have a fortune to spend either, but I still want it to be special, of course.”
“I want to help!” Rindy exclaimed.
“Well, that’s just why you’re here, silly,” Therese grinned, squeezing her hand. “I was hoping you might like to help me make a cake.”
“Me?” Rindy gasped. “Can it be pink?”
“Of course,” Therese laughed with the younger girl. “It can be whatever you’d like. And I know your mom will love it.”
“I have an idea!” Rindy announced, racing off into her room, no doubt to grab her colored pencils that Therese had gotten her as a surprise a few weeks ago, so that she could draw out their design.
“Contrary to popular belief,” Abby smirked. “I may be able to help you.”
“Yeah?”
“Just don’t tell anyone I’m being nice,” Abby warned.
“I wouldn’t dare.”
*****
“Darling, I can’t believe you did this all for me,” Carol gushed, blotting the napkin against her lips as she looked out at the water. “How did you even know about this spot? I’ve loved it since I was a girl.”
“I had some help,” Therese shrugged.
“Well, I know that Rindy had a hand in the cake,” Carol laughed heartily. “Quite literally.” The two shared a laugh as Therese leaned back against the blonde, Carol humming against her as Therese looked down with a grin at the cake, that sure enough, had a messy handprint made of icing right smack in the middle of it that had originally had Therese wanting to cry and race out to the bakery, but then she thought better of it, knowing it would make Carol’s heart flutter to know that Therese and Rindy had baked it together and Therese had let the little girl run wild with ideas.
“Abby suggested the place,” Therese murmured, closing her eyes as she leaned further back against Carol, the blonde kissing the crown of her head.
“She can be nice sometimes,” Carol whispered.
“That’s exactly why I wasn’t supposed to tell you,” Therese giggled. “She might get a good rep.”
“There is one thing I was wondering you might do with me once our stomachs have settled from that beautiful picnic and Rindy’s…interesting…cake.”
“Anything,” Therese breathed, enjoying the gentle sway of the breeze around them and the smell of salt water in the air.
“Dance with me?” Carol asked, turning her head slightly to face the brunette as her eyes twinkled, her face already seeming to be dancing on its own.
Therese didn’t need to point out the fact that there was no music besides the occasional squak of seagulls or the sound of waves crashing in the distance, but she jumped up all the same, Carol pulling her head against her chest, circling her with gentle, strong arms as she started to sway them back and forth.
“I never thought I could be as happy as this, dearest,” Carol whispered into her hair, squeezing her tighter as Therese let her eyes flutter shut, feeling Carol’s embrace and love surrounding her.
“Happy birthday, baby.”

Easy Living
Carol Aird x Femme Reader
Content warning: Smut
Carol rises gracefully from the carpeted floor, hips swaying as she approaches the gramophone. The dulcet sound of Billie Holiday's ‘Easy Living’ caressing your ears as her slender fingers place the needle delicately onto the record. While you imagine caressing Carol.
You know it’s wrong, know that it could cost Carol everything, but you can’t seem to stay away from her – and her you. As far as Harge knew, you’d gone your separate ways months ago, when Carol assured him so; and the joint custody of Rindy had remained steadfast. You’d never expected Harge to be a man of his word.
Carol turns and smirks at you, her neat curls bouncing.
“Do you remember the first time we danced to this?” Her voice is sonorous, teasing, as her hands clasp your waist and pulls your body flush against hers. You feel your cheeks warm as you feel every soft curve, every angle of her.
“How could I forget?” Your voice comes out a whisper as her hands travel lower, as she begins to sway you in time to the music.
She kisses you then, lips velvety soft and full against yours, and your head spins, fogs with only thoughts of Carol – how she tastes, how she feels, her warmth, her scent, sweet and spicy all at once. Carol has that effect – complete euphoria, invading all of your senses in the best ways possible. She consumes you, burns you up, until it feels like only the two of you are left on the entire planet, until you forget the existence of everyone else.
Carol’s kisses become more desperate, her teeth nipping at your lip, her chest heaving with want as her hands paw at your ass, red nails digging into soft flesh – kneading there as you deepen the kiss, tongue meeting tongue.
All of a sudden, Carol pulls away, and her blue eyes are hardly blue at all – pupils dilated, dark with lust and longing. She bites her lip and nimbly kneels before you. Her hands glide up your thighs, squeezing firmly and she pushes you gently to lean against the wingback chair, conveniently behind you.
“Y/N...” Your name leaves her lips as a breathy sigh, and you shiver, brushing her hair from her forehead as she begins bunching up your figure-hugging dress you’d deliberately worn around your hips.
“Yes, Carol?” You part your legs.
“I want to taste you. Now.” The blonde nips at your inner thigh and you gasp, letting out a breathy laugh. She grins up at you as you snap the waistband of your lace underwear against your hip, raising an eyebrow at her.
“Then what are you waiting for? Bon appetit.”
Carol chuckles as she tugs the garment down your legs, flinging them to one side. You feel her warm breath between your legs as her eyes gaze upward to meet your own.
“Don’t make me regret taking you to Paris. Cheeky.”
Then her tongue flicks out over your clit, quickly at first, followed by a long, firm stroke. Your breath catches in your throat, head falling back as you fist a hand in her blonde curls. She laughs deeply against you, relishes watching you come apart so easily for her.
“My good girl.” She murmurs against you, then resumes the rapid movements of her tongue. You can feel the warmth flood between your thighs, and just as you tense, sparks dancing behind your eyelids, she slows, reverting to long, teasing strokes with the very tip of her tongue.
You whine in frustration, one hand clutching her hair, the other clawing at the chair behind you as your legs shake.
“Carol, please,” You breathe, voice tremoring in your throat.
“Look at me, sweetheart,” Her voice is soft, yet commanding, and you roll your head forwards on your shoulders to gaze down at her with clouded eyes – taking in the haze of her own, her mussed hair, her always perfectly red stained lips smudged. She smirks and winks at you. “Now keep looking. For as long as you can.”
You nod meekly, unable to think of anything but how desperately you need her to carry on, to grant you release – and so she does. Peering up at you, she resumes her ministrations ravenously, her lips closing around your clit and sucking, then flicking again, hard and fast, right on the sweet spot that makes you feel like your legs are going to collapse beneath you.
Your climax crashes through you like a tidal wave, bursts of pleasure jolting through you like lightning, and you moan and whimper loudly, hips bucking against Carol’s eager mouth. You maintain eye contact, and she hums, gripping your hips and anchoring you to the armchair as your legs threaten to give way at the vibrations.
As you come down, you let your eyes drift shut and she smirks up at you, pressing a single kiss to your still sensitive nub before licking her lips and rising to stand on her knees. Carol presses the side of her face to your stomach, and you cradle her head with trembling arms, fingers raking through her blonde tresses.
“I love you,” She murmurs, arms snaking around your waist.
You smile, taking her arms and tugging gently, gesturing for her to stand. She does, coming face to face with your hooded eyes; and as you gaze at her, taking in the soft crows feet at the corners of her eyes, the smile lines alongside her mouth, the pinkness of her cheeks, the sky blue of her eyes, she looks almost unsure – pale blue searching your face, but her smile never wavers.
“I love you too, Carol. And I have for a long time.”
Her whole face softens as you cup her cheek, and she kisses you, with no urgency this time. Soft and slow, with the faint hiss of the finished record still spinning in the background, Carol knows you have all the time in the world.

New Year's Kiss
Character: Carol Aird
Ship: Carol Aird x F!Reader
Word count: ±900
Genre: Fluff
Tumblr media
23:31
It was a cold december night,You were walking downt he street full of christmas lights and slippery snow. As you got to the very familiar door, behind which you've made many beautiful memories, you knocked on it.
A few minutes later she openned the door. Carol. She looks as beautiful as ever:
Blonde, slightly wavy hair, her red lips, baby blue eyes, fair and pale skin. Her red dress which was tightly on her beautiful, attractive body.. the way it clung to her small waist, the skirt was tightly on her soft hips which made your breath get stuck in your throat.
She smiled at you,at her dear friend and said with her soft, yet raspy from cigarettes voice:
"Ah,Y/N,you finally came! Come on in,what took you so long, dearest?"
There it is. That nickname.. "Dearest".
As she refers to you by that name, your heart sinks for a second down to your stomach. Your eyes widen ever so slightly and you take a sharp breath in:
"Oh,just the usual .. That damn traffic and the snowy roads. But i came till midnight,so.."
You laughed a little,as you stepped into the house and took your shoes off. You held a present in your hand. It was for Carol's daughter,Rindy,a very nice little girl..just like her mother.
23:47
You didn't really plan on celebrating the New years, you didn't feel like it. But since Carol invited you,you couldn't say no.
She is just captivating, she can get anyone under a trance with her beauty, raspy voice and those hypnotizing blue eyes.
To be honest, you felt something for Carol ever since you met her 2 years ago. It was an accidental meeting, but yet it holds a huge part in your heart since it changed your life completely.
You remember every little detail about that day: what she wore on that sunny day in August, what she ordered in the Café you worked at..
"Dearest, what are you thinking about?" You heard Carol ask.
You felt her hand on your back. As you looked at her, your e/c eyes were met with her baby blues. The mascara only enhanced her long eyelashes, the red lipstick which she always wore made her look even more seducting.
"Oh..well,nothing really,just..just our first meeting."
You shrugged it off and took a sip of your champaigne. You heard her giggle. Oh,her voice..the voice you can't get enough of.
"Silly girl,i thought it was something serious.."
She sighed,but then she continued:
"I think about it all the time, too. You looked so beautiful in your work uniform.. and the coffee you made me was the best one."
The compliment made your heart fill with warmth and your cheeks go slight pink, you'd never expect her to compliment you in such way.
23:57
You and Carol were on the balcony, smoking. The air was chilly,it send slight shivers down your spine, but the cigarette somehow made you feel warmer.
You were looking at her. She looked ethereal:
Her blue eyes shone under the moonlit sky,her fair skin looked even paler and softer, her hair was slightly flowing with the chilly wind. The way she held the cigarette in her delicate hands with vibrant red nail polish, the way she put it close to her soft lips you wanted to kiss so badly, even the smoke she blew out was beautiful..
"Y/N could i tell you something?"
She asked.
"Oh .. of course."
You looked at her, taking a dragged from your cigarette that she so offered you a few minutes back.
"I don't know how you will react to this..you may find me disgusting, you may hate me..may never want to see me again and i may lose you,but i have to be honest with you."
She turned around and looked into your eyes.
"I love you .."
You heard these words come out of her soft lips as you froze.
"The first day we met, that's when i realized i felt something for you..and now that we've spent almost every day together throughout these 2 years, i realized i am in love with you." Her usuallu calm voice was strained. Aird took a deep breath in. "Please,do not hate me,dearest. You mean the world to me.."
You were quiet, you could not believe the woman you fantasized about, cared the most for and loved with your whole hesrt had confessed her feelings to you.
You could see tears in her beautiful eyes, they were full of many emotions like fear, worry, sadness and confusion. She waited and waited for your answer. She wanted to see if it was the end. The end of everything.
You came up closer to her without breaking the eye contact.
"Oh,Carol.. i love you too. I could never imagine you being in love with me.. It all feels unreal right now."
When the older woman heard your words, she let out a shaky breath of relief and smiled, showing her smile lines you love so much.
She came closer to you, putting her cold yet soft hands on your cheeks and looked into your eyes.
00:00
Carol leaned in and put her lips onto yours. The kiss sent a soft electricity down both of your bodies,it was full of love, happiness and relief.
It was not the end,as has Carol thought,No,it was the start of everything.
The start of a beautiful, yet forbidden love story.
-----------------------------------------------------
Happy new years everyone. I hope you like it.

Florence had given up.
Florence had grown tired of Mr. and Mrs. Aird's constant bickering, prompting her imminent resignation.
While Carol had never liked Florence, there was no doubt that she missed having a conversation with someone other than asshole Harge, not to mention needing someone who could help her with Rindy.
Carol had started on a complicated search mission to find the perfect woman. She didn't think it would take as long as it did, but her search led her to a beautiful young woman.
Y/N had flushed cheeks and dreamy eyes, with eager lips that trembled every time she was in the presence of Mrs. Aird, but those same lips smiled and laughed every time the young woman was in the company of the little girl Rindy. Both girls couldn't stop playing, laughing, and loving each other.
Now, in the middle of the 20th century, it is frowned upon that a girl as small as Rindy was, was away from her mother, and considering that Carol was implicitly forbidden to leave the house without the company of Harge, the girl she was condemned not to be able to live with many kids her age; so, the fresh air that Y/N brought to the house put the brunette's tiny body in complete ecstasy.
Carol was also ecstatic, watching her little girl change her serious expression to a big, bright smile, making her own smile appear again, after what seemed like many years.
Both women loved Y/N with every fiber of their hearts. The same way that Y/N was in love with both of them.
To say that Y/N had a slight crush on the blonde woman was an understatement. At first, Y/N thought that she was just impressed by that elegant woman.
Y/N wasn't from a wealthy family like Carol or Rindy was. She had been raised by a family that earned just enough to support her and her four siblings. So, she never saw anyone in such coats, with the jewelry, or driving the car that Carol was driving.
But, the admiration ended when Y/N's eyes stopped focusing on the patterns of the dresses to focus on the blonde's ankles, on her long and thin fingers, on how fragile her wrists seemed.
Y/N was head over heels in love with her boss.
"Y/N!" Rindy's screams caused the woman to stop paying attention to her book so she could hug her little friend.
"Hello little one, what are you doing outside?" although when it snows the temperature doesn't usually drop much less than normal in New York, it was still a low temperature for a girl as small as the chestnut.
“Dad got mad at mom again. They asked me to play on the swings while I waited for you."
If he paid close enough attention, Y/N could hear Harge's complaints and Carol's tired sighs.
"Well, little girl, let's play"
———————————————————————————
After a few awkward minutes, Y/N could see Harge's head sticking out of the door, causing the woman to silently thank him, her throat beginning to ache from how hard she had tried to keep the argument from reaching Rindy's ears
"We're leaving" she manage to hear
"But daddy…"
"Shut up Rindy, I told you to say goodbye" Mr. Aird's tone began to increase
"Harge, you don't have to be so hard on…"
"SHUT UP CAROL!"
Before the argument could escalate to any worse, Y/N's right hand instinctively landed on the girl's back, making reassuring circles, while her left hand began to caress the silky hair, showing her a bit of sweetness.
"Come on honey, let's prepare a backpack full of toys so you can take it with your dad"
Without giving her time to answer, her hand began to pat her back, encouraging her to leave the line of fire that was forming between the woman and the man.
———————————————————————————
Carefully, every last toy was put away, causing the little dark-haired girl to go out into the living room, finding both parents much calmer than they had been just a few minutes ago.
"I'm ready, daddy"
"Okay, beautiful girl, say goodbye to mommy"
"Can't mommy come with us?"
Y/N found the closeness and love that Rindy had for her mother endearing, and vice versa. She missed that relationship with her own mother.
"No, sweetie," it was Carol's turn to speak again, "Mom has to stay and make sure there are some gifts under the tree for you." Gracefully, the woman crouched down to her daughter's level, cupping both cheeks between her hands and planting a big and resounding kiss on her forehead.
"You have to make sure I get the redheaded doll I asked for" the girl reminded her mother, causing the blonde to giggle despite her teary eyes.
“Sure, sweet pea”
"Y/N"
The woman's eyes had to leave the tender image of a mother and daughter to settle on the cold, soulless eyes of Mr. Aird.
"Hmm?"
She always preferred to remain silent in the presence of the man. It sent chills down her spine.
“Do you want us to take you to the train station?”
The girl's eyes fell on the blonde, seeing how her shoulders trembled slightly, while she kept looking at the ground, just to prevent her little daughter from seeing how vulnerable she was.
"No, thank you, Mr. Aird."
"Are you sure?"
That was another thing that Y/N hated Mr. Aird for, it was because of that sense of doubt that he wanted to implant in women's minds, of course she was sure, if she needed a ride, she would have asked for one.
"Yes, I'm completely sure"
"Okay, then…let's go Rindy, Grandma is waiting for us"
The girl quickly gives her mother another hug, while she was kissing the girl's forehead one last time; faster than lightning, the girl's body collided with Y/N's leg hugging them, causing the woman's heart to clench with love and affection.
"Bye Y/N"
"Goodbye little flea"
"I promise to bring you a present from Florida," the girl commented before being dragged by her father's arm to the car.
"That would be the best gift you can give me this Christmas," the woman joked, causing the girl to giggle.
"Bye mommy! Bye Y/N!"
Both women said goodbye to the girl, while they watched as the car moved away little by little.
———————————————————————————
"You should leave. I wouldn't want to keep you any longer than necessary” Carol spoke.
The silence that had settled in the room was not uncomfortable, but that was not why Y/N could not help noticing the sadness in the woman's gray eyes.
She knew that when a cigarette was in her right hand, and a glass of liquor in her left, something bad was about to happen.
"I can't leave you alone, ma'am…"
"Carol, how many times have I told you to call me Carol?" the woman commented as she gave her a smile
"I'm sorry…"
"You'll have to get used to calling me by my first name, especially now that the divorce is approaching faster than ever, thank God"
“You and Mr. Aird…?” the blonde woman only managed to nod her head "oh, I'm sorry"
"Don't be sorry dear, it was something I had dreamed of many years ago"
"Divorce?" Carol nodded again.
A silence settled in the room again, Carol tried to enjoy it, her head resting on the sofa while Y/N watched the woman's face, trying to process the new information.
"Can I ask why?"
"Why am I getting divorced?"
"No, why are you waiting so long to do it?"
"Well, there are several things, but… the main one is Rindy"
"Don't he want to give up custody?"
Carol's head snapped around to look directly into the younger woman's eyes.
"Darling, for being so young, you know a lot about this."
"My parents got divorced. My father was left with full custody of my brothers and mine; It's also not like my mother fought for us in the first place."
There he could see how Carol's eyes crystallized again
"Oh my poor girl"
Again a silence settled in the room.
"Is it because you're a lesbian?" Carol's eyes almost bulged out of their sockets at that statement. Her back quickly stiffened, and just as she opened her mouth to object to the comment, Y/N spoke again. "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone"
"Who told you?"
"Florence"
"That damn bitch"
“You don't have to worry Carol. That does not make you a worse person, you are still that loving and beautiful mother in my eyes "
Now Y/N could see how tears fell from those gray eyes, causing her own eyes to begin to water.
“That is what hurts me the most, knowing that nothing I do for my daughter will be worth enough; As soon as Harge tells the judge, I'll have to forget about Rindy. If he can't have me, I can't have my Rindy."
Y/N noticed how the feelings Carol was having were beginning to physically exhaust her, so she carefully placed a hand on the taller woman's waist and began to guide her to her room.
She carefully laid her down on the bed, removing her shoes and giving her calves a little massage.
"I understand what you are going through, Carol, as soon as they found out about my homosexuality my father forced me to leave the house"
Carol's eyes returned to rest on Y/N's eyes causing the last mentioned to shudder.
“My sweet, that must have been very hard. Come lie down with me"
Carefully, Y/N's head rested on the blonde's shoulder, while the latter stroked her scalp, as a way of reassuring the young woman and herself.
"You're beautiful," Carol commented.
"You are much more beautiful than me"
Carol didn't answer until minutes later.
"I really want to kiss you. Ask me not to do it" she spoke, as she began to bring her face closer to Y/N's
"Don't do it" Carol wasn't expecting a refusal as serious as the one Y/N gave her, stopping short with a frown "don't get me wrong, I've wanted to kiss you since day one, but you're having a hard time" T /N planted a kiss on the blonde's freckled cheek, while her left hand caressed the cheek and the hair on the other side of her face "I don't want to take advantage of you"
"Oh my angel" Carol planted a kiss on the nose of the younger girl "so thoughtful"
They both let out a knowing giggle, full of affection and adoration for each other.
“It is time for you to sleep for a moment; crying drains all the energy" Y/N whispered in the blonde's ear
"Promise you'll be here when I wake up"
"I promise, beautiful"

Was that [ANGELIQUE BOYER]? Oh no no, that was just [CAROL AIRD], a [CANON CHARACTER] from [CAROL/THE PRICE OF SALT]. They are [THIRTY-FOUR] years old, use [SHE/HER], and [ARE] aware that they are not actually from Washington DC. Too bad they can’t stray from this city for long
Tumblr media
Carol Aird has arrived in D.C. from a completely different time. Though perhaps not as drastically different as some of the other residents, it was still enough to cause quite the culture shock
Carol's life was spent as an unhappy housewife in a large but cold home in New Jersey. Her only highlight was and continues to be her young daughter Rindy
It was a life that had been ruled by the rampant sexism, homophobia, and just general discrimination that was so egregiously commonplace at the time
She would eventually meet and fall for a woman, Therese, that would make her feel the kind of happiness she'd found elusive before, but alas it was not to last. He husband sent a P.I. to gather 'dirt' on her and her affair
This information was later used as evidence during the custody battle for Rindy, and though she'd already cut ties with Therese and vowed never to see her again, she still lost the custody battle, having to settle for visitatons
It was during one of those visitations that Carol began the drive back to her ex-husband's place to return her three year-old daughter, when things took a turn as after a few hours of driving, Carol found they were in D.C. instead
She initially thought she'd gotten turned around somehow, but when she took note of how different the city seemed to be from what she assumed it should be, it dawned on her that they weren't in their usual world at all
Carol has taken the year that she's been here to find her own footing away from the expectations of the society she grew up in. Thought it's true there are things that are still hard to shake, she's found herself coming into her own. Now in the political sphere, she's become the Congressional Representative for New Jersey's 8th district, and hopes to enact some real change.
Things are certainly better than they were, but Carol realizes there's still a lot to be done, and her primary goal is to leave a world where her now four year-old daughter won't have to worry about any of the issues that affected her own life

a fic every day in august (7/31)
Carol x Therese (465 words)
“You both look ridiculous,” Carol huffed at the sight of her teenage daughter teaching Therese some new TikTok trend dance. She stood, leaning against the doorway of the kitchen that looked into the living room, drying some dishes. Therese, as graceful and lithe as she looked, was clumsy as ever when trying to follow Rindy’s directions.
Carol still smiled, no matter how stupid she found social media to be. Therese had tried to convince her to get an account online, but she point blank refused.
“Mom! Go away, we’re practicing!”
“Maybe she wants to join us, eh?” Therese winked at Carol, shimmying her hips at the blonde. Carol rolled her eyes.
“No way, I’m staying right here with my dishes. It’s much more relaxing here.”
“Mom, come on! Just one?”
“Oh, just so that I can be your next social media victim? Remember when you posted me on your Instagram?”
Rindy blushed, many mutuals had noted on how hot her mom was, wow she looks great, omg! twins, and various other remarks that were much less polite. Carol didn’t enjoy the attention, whether it was positive or not, so she no longer took part in Rindy’s online shenanigans.
“I trust you to be responsible online, sweetheart. Just leave me out of it,” with that, Carol turned and walked back to the kitchen. Rindy sulked a bit and sat back on the couch. Therese offered her a few reassuring words and a quick hug before going to Carol.
“I don’t want to start a fight, Carol, but, aren’t you being a little hypocritical?”
Carol scowled at the sink. “Whatever do you mean?”
“Well, you allow me to photograph you all the time.”
“That’s different, angel. You’re a professional. It’s either for work, or just for the two of us,” Carol sighed. “Rindy’s social circle is a bunch of reckless teenagers who all think they own the world if they get a certain amount of views. You don’t think that way.”
“I used to, before I got any professional shoots or recognition.”
Carol huffed. “Whatever, I just don’t want to do any dances like that. I’ll look silly.”
“No you won’t,” Therese hummed, walking up behind Carol and wrapping her arms around her middle. “I think you’d look sexy, even.”
“Hah! ‘Sexy’, what are you doing, trying to seduce me?”
“Maybe,” Therese whispered, pulling at Carol’s earlobe with her teeth. Carol breathed in sharply and nearly dropped the dishes in her hands from the soapy water in the sink. Therese then gracefully spun around and walked back to the living room, Carol’s eyes following her.
“Rin! Put that music back on, let’s practice more.”
Soon some hip-hop song filled the apartment again, and Carol sighed, chuckling, before turning back to her cleaning duties with a reddened face.

My Angel - 5: Rindy
Therese was awoken by Carol lightly shaking her shoulders. "Therese, darling, wake up, please." Her voice was urgent.
"Hmm?" the younger woman's brows furrowed.
"I need you to get up, angel."
Therese sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "What's wrong?" she asked in a morning, raspy tone.
"Harge... he called me. Rindy wants to see me." Carol explained softly, hesitantly, maybe even a little scared.
Therese's eyes opened wide. "Shit..."
"That's exactly what I said," Carol said with a sigh as she stood up from the bed.
The brunette woman looked at her lover, seeing that she was already dressed for the day. "What does this mean?" she asked.
"I-I'm not sure... I hate to say this, but I think it'd be best if you go home for a while. I'm sorry, but if Harge sees you here, or if Rindy says anything to him, my rights to see her are provoked." The blonde's voice was soft and shaky. She was scared to death.
Therese could see the state her lover was in. She nodded, "Okay," as she got up from the bed, she bit her lip. She hates this, but she knew she couldn't get between Carol and Rindy again. She started to get dressed and began packing up her things. She grabbed her bag and slipped on her shoes before heading toward the door. She sighed. Before she had the chance to open it, Carol wrapped her in a tight hug.
"I'm so sorry... I know this was supposed to be our weekend. As soon as they leave, I'll call you, okay?" the older woman asked softly as her nose buried into brunette locks.
"Okay," Therese murmured as her arms wrapped around the other woman.
"Therese, look at me, please." The shorter woman finally looked up at her lover. "I love you, my sweet angel."
"I love you, too. I should leave before they get here." Therese said as she began to pull away.
The taller woman leaned down to kiss her girlfriend's lips gently. "I'll call you." She said before finally letting her go.
Therese nodded before leaving the apartment. As she walked out of the building, she saw Harge's car park just a few feet away from her. She quickly made her way down the street before getting a taxi.
Carol was pacing back and forth through the living room as she waited for a knock on the door. She didn't know why Rindy was so insistent on seeing her today. There was a part of her that hates sending Therese home, but there was another part that missed her daughter more than anything.
There was a knock on the door and the woman opened it. She was immediately hugged around her torso. She leaned down and smiled. "Oh, my darling girl. How I have missed you." She said before placing a kiss on Rindy's cheek.
"I missed you, too, Mom." Rindy smiled.
Carol looked at Harge and stepped aside, letting him in. She saw that he was holding a bag. She furrowed her brows for a moment. They hadn't mentioned spending the night. "Would you like something to drink?" she asked.
"No," he said dully.
"Do you have apple juice?" Rindy asked softly.
Carol smiled as she looked at her daughter. "I do!" she walked into the kitchen and her daughter followed. She noticed that Rindy had grown at least four inches since the last time she had seen her. She filled up a small glass with the requested juice and handed it over. "Do you think you can sit at the table while I talk to your father?"
"Yes, ma'am," Rindy said as she walked over to the table.
Carol kissed the top of the girl's head before walking over to Harge, who was looking out the window. "Is she staying the night?"
"That's what she wants." He said.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
The man turned to his ex-wife. "Don't you want to see your daughter? It's been five months, Carol!" he whisper-yelled.
"I know how long it's been. Trust me, I know. And, yes, I want to see her... I was just surprised, that's all." She explained roughly.
"Did you have plans?" Harge cocked a brow.
"It doesn't matter."
"Were they with Abby?" he asked.
Carol rolled her eyes as she crossed her arms over her chest. "No, but this is not the time to talk about that. You know it's over. She's seeing someone anyhow."
"Are you?"
"Are you?" she shot back.
"No. How could I be with someone when I still think about you?" his voice softened.
"Oh, good God. Don't start this. Get over it, Harge." Carol laughed cynically.
He let out an angry sigh. "You didn't answer my question."
"Yes, I am." She said without hesitation.
"Who?" he raised his brow again.
"Harge, stop or I will make you leave. Why don't you just go?"
Harge handed over Rindy's bag and went over to their daughter to tell her bye.
Once he had left, Carol took the bag to the spare bedroom. She walked back into the kitchen to see that Rindy was sitting with an empty glass.
"I'm done," she said.
"I see that," Carol smiled. "What would you like to do?" she asked before taking the glass over to the sink to rinse out.
"I don't know. I just wanted to see you. I've missed you."
Carol smiled again as she sat across from her daughter. "I've missed you too. How about we go out? I can take you to that ice cream parlor you love so much... if you want?"
"It's way too cold for ice cream, Mom." The small brunette girl chuckled.
The chuckle warmed the mother's heart. "What about hot chocolate, honey?"
"Okay!"
"Alright, let me grab my coat. Is it okay if I make a call before we leave?" Carol asked as she began to get back up.
Rindy nodded softly.
Carol smiled softly before leaving the room. She walked to her bedroom and closed the door. She grabbed her phone as she sat on the edge of her bed. She dialed Therese's number and waited. After two rings, she picked up.
"Hello, Carol?" Therese's voice came through.
"Yes, it's me."
"That was fast."
"There's a problem," Carol said softly, not wanting Rindy to hear her.
"What's wrong? What kind of problem?" Therese's voice dripped with worry.
"Rindy's staying the night. Harge just dropped her off. I didn't know. I'm sorry." She sighed.
Therese sighed as well. "It's okay. Maybe next weekend."
"No maybes about it, angel. I'll make it work one way or another. Next weekend it's just you and me. I promise."
"Okay," Therese's voice chirped up, and Carol could hear a smile.
"I love you."
"I love you, too."
"I'll call you again tonight after she's asleep, okay?"
"Okay," Therese said before hanging up.
Carol stood from the bed and grabbed her coat from the closet. She opened the door to her room and saw Rindy standing outside.
"Who did you call?" the girl asked as she looked up at her mother.
"It's not polite to intrude on other's privacy," Carol said before putting her hand on the girl's back and led her to the living room.
"But... you said I love you. Who did you talk to?"
The mother sighed, knowing she wouldn't get out of this one. "A friend."
"Who? Aunt Abby?"
"No," Carol shook her head.
"Do I know them?"
"Uh... yes, but I don't think you'll remember her." She said, hoping that it was enough.
They walked out of the apartment and straight to the elevator.
"What's her name, Mommy? Why won't you tell me?"
Carol wanted to say the truth, but she knew she couldn't. Before she could think of a lie, something slipped out. "Your father doesn't like her... I can't talk about her."
"Like he doesn't like Aunt Abby?" Rindy looked up at her mother.
"Yes," Carol sighed.
"Oh..."
The way Rindy said that caused Carol to worry. "Has he said anything about her?" she asked, even though she wasn't sure she wanted to know.
"A little," Rindy murmured.
"What did he say?"
"That she's bad... that she's not okay in the head," she admitted hesitantly.
Carol shook her head in disbelief. "That's not true."
"Then why doesn't he like her?"
The elevator doors finally opened, and the mother grabbed her daughter's hand so guide her out of the building. "Let's get that hot cocoa, okay?" she asked.
"Okay," Rindy sighed.
There was a coffee shop right down the street from Carol's apartment building, so it didn't take long for them to get there. When they arrived, Carol led her daughter over to the counter. "Do you want a pastry?" she asked.
"Please?"
"What would you like?"
"Coffee cake, please." The girl smiled.
Carol smiled back and nodded. "Okay," she turned toward the cashier and gave their order before sitting down at a table near the window.
"Mom?" Rindy asked as she sat down across from her mother.
"Yes, my sweet girl?"
"Will you tell me about her?"
"Who? My friend? Carol asked.
"Yes," she nodded.
The mother sighed and waited until their waitress had come out with their food and drinks. "Thank you," she smiled at the woman before turning back to her daughter. "She's very nice."
"What else?" Rindy asked as she picked up a fork.
"Well, she's a really good friend to me... she might even live with me soon."
"Really?" Rindy smiled as she began to eat.
"Mhm, would you be okay with that?"
"I think so. But, Mom, who is she?" the girl whined.
Carol sighed, not sure if she should say or not. "Do you remember Therese?"
"The photograph lady?" the brunette asked, making her mother smile.
"Yes," Carol said before sipping on her drink.
"Yeah, she was nice."
"I think so too."
"Why doesn't Daddy like her?"
The mother looked out the window as she placed her drink down. She rested her chin on her hand. "The same reasons why he doesn't like Aunt Abby."
"She's sick in the head?"
"No... neither of them are but a lot of people tend to think that," Carol explained.
"Why?"
"Aren't you full of questions today?" the mother laughed nervously before picking up her drink again. "I'll explain it to you when you're older." She said before taking a sip.
"Why not now?" Rindy pouted.
"Because I don't think you'll fully understand... and I don't want your father to be upset with me. I already don't see you, and he'll make sure I never do."
"I'm sorry, Mommy." Rindy sighed.
"Don't be sorry, baby. It's okay. Just... not right now, okay?"
"Okay," the girl nodded softly.
___
After Rindy was fast asleep in the spare bedroom, Carol retired to her room to call Therese.
"Hello?" the younger woman's tone
"Therese."
"Carol," Therese's voice chirped up immediately.
Carol took a sip of her wine before saying, "I miss you."
"I miss you, too."
"I wish you could have been here today, even if Rindy was here."
The brunette sighed as she twirled the phone cord around her finger. "Me, too..."
"She shouldn't be here long tomorrow. As I said, I'll call you to come over." Carol said.
"Okay. How did it go?"
"It was good. But she asked a lot of questions."
"What about?" Therese asked.
The older woman took a sip of her wine before setting the glass on the nightstand. "She heard me talk to you. I didn't know... she asked who I called, so I told her it was a friend. I knew if I said too much, she might tell Harge. I finally ended up telling her it was you... she remembers you, and even called you the photograph lady."
Therese let out a small laugh. "What else?" she asked.
"I told her you'd be moving in with me. I asked her if she would be okay with that."
"And is she?"
"She said 'I think so'... which means yes. She's not really good at communicating sometimes. She's learned that from me." Carol explained lowly.
"What do you mean?" the brunette's brows furrowed.
"When I was married to Harge, I dodged questions. I didn't really give a straight answer... I had to hide what I was really feeling."
"I'm so sorry... that's horrible."
"It's okay, and what did I tell you about apologizing so much?" Carol raised a brow as she smirked.
"Right... sorry. I mean... fuck—" Therese sighed.
"I'm just teasing you, angel." Carol let out a hearty laugh. "I can't wait to see you tomorrow."
Therese let out a shy chuckle. "Me, too. I love sleeping in your arms. I love being with you every chance I get. I love what we always so before we sleep... you make me feel incredible. I'll miss that tonight."
Carol sighed softly. "Me, too, darling."
"Mommy?" a small voice said outside Carol's door.
"Damn... Rindy needs me. I'll call you in the morning. I love you, my darling angel."
"It's okay. I love you, too." Therese said.
The blonde hung up the phone and got off the bed. She opened her bedroom door to see Rindy with her small blanket around her shoulders, looking up at her. Carol crouched down to the ground and ran her fingers through the girl's hair. "What's wrong, love?"
"I can't sleep. Can I sleep with you tonight?" Rindy asked sleepily.
"Of course, come on, babygirl." Carol said with open arms.

The Forbidden Place (o mythical, magical New York City!) is just across the Hudson river. It might as well be on Mars. Despite living within driving distance, Rindy’s never been, at least not that she can remember, and has no chance of going.
It’s almost a family rule, so old that it doesn’t even bear repeating anymore, that the Forbidden Place is never spoken of.

I Wish (Part 2)
Carol Aird x fem!reader
A/N: Here you go!! Hope you like it <33
WC: 1.8k
Warnings: Mention of a slight anxiety attack
Summary: You and Carol settle your feelings for each other.
Part one
Tumblr media
The hug was all Carol thought about for the next two days and the way you called her formally again. If you had just completed your confession, she would have risked it all for you. Not that she wouldn't, but she needed to know you're in the same boat.
The older woman didn't feel like doing anything. Avoided everyone as much as possible except calling Rindy once in a while. Florence was on vacation, and her daughter was at Harge's parent’s house. They probably won’t be back until tomorrow, she thought.
It was Monday, so you have to go to the Aird residence. You’re somehow agitated to see Carol again, afraid that you had overstepped your limit on that hug. That damned hug. You promised yourself not to indulge in any alcohol when you are in the presence of Carol so you wouldn't do anything stupid that you might regret later.
You knocked at the door, expecting Carol's beautiful face, but only silence answered you. You knocked again, "Hello? Is anyone home?" Silence. Confused, but mainly worried, you tried opening the door and it wasn't locked. Normally, Carol welcomed you, or if she's doing something, Rindy or Florence would open the door for you. There's not a sign of them in the living room. You went into the kitchen, no luck.
"Anybody home?" Carol heard someone from downstairs. Assuming it was Abby, she ignored it and turned her back to the door, in hopes of her friend won't bother her because she was ‘asleep’.
Still no answer, you went upstairs. Her car is parked outside and Harge's wasn't, so you went to the guest room, the room you know she sleeps in when her husband isn't home.
"Carol? Are you there? It’s Y/N." You called softly. Silence once again engulfing you, you proceeded to go back downstairs until you heard some shuffling from the room. Carol abruptly opened the door. Her hair was disheveled, has dark bags under her eyes, so worry flooded your chest. You held her shoulder, "Are you okay? Are you sick?"
Seeing concern paint your features, she replied "I-I'm fine. Just a little headache." She hated lying to you but she couldn't tell you either that you caused her unusual behavior the last two days.
"Have you eaten? Drink medicine? I'll make something if you-"
Carol shook her head, "I just-" "Can you get me a glass of water, please? Thank you." Nodding your head, you all but sprinted down the stairs to get her water. Knowing that she hasn't eaten yet, you made her a sandwich in haste so you go can go back up immediately.
When you get to her room, she's sitting on the edge of the bed, fiddling with her thumbs. You set down the tray on the nightstand and sat beside her. You sat in comfortable silence and wait for her to speak first.
“Rindy is with her grandparents today. They wouldn’t be back until tomorrow. I should’ve called you earlier. I’m so sorry for wasting your time-” You cut the rambling woman by squeezing her shoulder, “It’s fine, Carol. I have nothing better to do anyway. Since Rindy isn’t here I might as well babysit you instead, if you don’t mind my company.” You chuckled lightly, trying to soften the mood. I’ll be glad to spend all of my time with you.
You stood up and went to the window, missing the faint blush on the blonde’s cheek. “I don’t mind, darling. I'm much better now that you’re here. Thank you for gracing me with your presence.” Carol replied. You always found it pleasing how conversation easily flows between you two. Sometimes she will shoot you a flirty remark that made you flush, and some days you step up and subtly flirt back.
“How’s college, sweetheart? I hope you haven’t been slacking.” She joked, and you playfully scoffed at her. You know what? I have been distracted lately because there’s this person that occupies my mind 24/7. “What? Of course not.” You rolled your eyes lightheartedly. “A little distracted but it’s alright, I guess. We have research ongoing and it’s a bit stressful, but nothing I couldn’t handle.”
“Distracted? I hope going here three times a week isn’t taking much of your time.”
“No, it’s not.” You opened the window slightly to feel the breeze of the air outside. You closed your eyes and inhaled the fresh air that surrounds the countryside. The tranquil atmosphere in this area always gives you the solitude you seek. You didn’t notice that Carol had moved until she ducked her chin on the top of your head. You shot your eyes open and tensed at the contact. You can feel her faint heartbeat on your back that made your breath hitch.
“Hmm, if it wasn’t because of work, was it perhaps, because of a lover?” You can feel her teasing grin against your head. Feeling a little brave, you might as well tell her into a tiny and vague detail, since you were about to confess to her two days ago.
“It is, actually.”
“Oh? Tell me about this man, Y/N.”
You elected to ignore the bitterness in her voice and that she thought it was a man. “This person is... very charming. The elegance that oozes out of them captivates everyone in the same room as them. They look at me like I hung the stars. Sometimes I think they enchanted me or something.” You smile, losing yourself in the thought of Carol. “Even the way they smoke is mesmerizing to me. If they told me to jump a cliff, I know I would.” You chuckled to yourself. “I just hope they know they can count on me. If it comes down to the time that the world would be against her, I would hold her hand and stand by her side.”
“So it’s a her.”
That brought you out of your daydreaming. You got away from her hold and put as much distance you could, still facing her. The look on your face was like a deer caught in a headlight. Words were stuck in your throat. “I- I uh- I was-” You looked at every corner of the room, anywhere except her face and crossed your arms to your chest to shield yourself from the woman’s gaze. You chewed your lip and started clawing and scratching your left arm as if an insect has bitten that spot. Carol knew that that movement was one of the tells that you were getting anxious.
The blonde gestures you to sit at the bed. She cupped your cheek gently, “Breathe, sweetheart, breathe.” You leaned into the touch, held her wrist and pressed your thumb at the spot where her heartbeat is. The calm beat made you relax, heaving out a deep sigh.
“I understand, darling. You don’t have to be afraid.” A tear slid down from your eye but she caught it with her thumb. “There’s nothing wrong with a woman loving another woman.”
It’s now or never. Better tell her what you feel and face the rejection right now than bottle it all up then explode later. You tightened your grip on her wrist, soft enough to not hurt her, and met her loving eyes.
“I’m in love with you, Carol.”
“I’m in love with you, darling.”
You both said at the same time. The shock from each other’s confession mirrored your faces. Neither of you moved until Carol leaned in to kiss you. She glanced at your lips, then your eyes, and you nod once giving her consent to close the distance. She placed a chaste kiss on your lips and pulled away, leaning her forehead to yours. The limp arms on your side seemed like they’ve been alive and slipped their way to Carol’s waist and pulled her close again. The kiss was getting heated as Carol swiped her tongue on your bottom lip seeking entrance. You let her in as you both fight for dominance. Teeth and tongue clashing. Every word you haven’t been able to tell before is now spoken through this moment. Carol isn’t just the missing piece, but she completed your puzzle pieces together. You didn’t know when you moved but you’re now straddling her lap, her tongue still in your mouth. This is nice. This feels right.
Feeling light-headed, you pulled back and Carol brought her attention to your jaw. You let out a soft moan that made her nip at your pulse point.
You finally solved the riddle of your heart. It was Carol all along. You can clearly remember the times you spent in each other’s presence. The way you look at each other like you’re the only person in the room. The simple gestures from her; making you a cup of tea and draping you in a blanket when you and Rindy cuddled and sleeping by the fireplace waiting for them to come home. You didn’t know how Carol kissed your forehead one too many times she catches you asleep on the sofa. It’s all visible to you now. You’ve been too blinded by your self-doubt to see what’s in front of you all this time.
You giggled at this realization. Instead of pining after one another, you could have had Carol in your arms long ago. Carol pulled away from your neck and cocked her head, “What’s so funny, darling?” Flashing you a playful smile.
“Nothing. It’s just that,” Carol poked the side of your waist making you jerk sideways. “We could have done this before if I have been brave enough.” You said, still giggling but seriousness was laced in your voice. She tapped your thigh so you got up and plopped across the bed.
“Hush now, darling. None of that.” She laid next to you. “You are one courageous girl, and I admire you for it. In fact, you’re braver than me, sweetheart. Plus, we can always make up for the lost time,” Carol faced you and she now had that expression that you always find hard to read. “You know no one must know of this, right? As much as I want to hold you all of the time, darling, there’s..”
“I know, Carol.” Your eyelids are now getting heavy. “I know it will be hard, but as long as you’re by my side..” Carol’s alluring features was the last thing you saw before succumbing to slumber.
***
You woke up with an arm across your stomach and entangled limbs. Turning your head to the side, you see your lover peacefully sleeping with a small smile on her lips. Her problems are now at the back of her mind, now focused on another good thing that has happened to her.
You were a turtle finding its way back to the sea and Carol’s waves have guided you home.

I had heard that it was liberating.
Y/N had overheard a small conversation in the university toilets. One of her classmates told another that she felt lonely, sad and desolate, and that running a razor across her thighs and seeing the blood, along with the burning, made her feel a little better.
When Y/N returned to her classroom, she couldn't get the comment out of her head.
So much so that she didn't even pay attention to her colourimetry analysis class.
She was missing a great analysis of Monet.
When class ended, Y/N quickly hurried out of the building, only to find Carol's car parked at the curb across the street. With the windows down, Y/N could clearly see her freckle-covered arms (thanks to her short sleeves) resting on the window. Her hand, finally free of those leather gloves, exposed her red fingernails holding a cigarette that she occasionally brought to her red lips, those crimson lips, those lips that held so many secrets shared, so many smiles reciprocated, and a few lingering brushes on her cheeks. Red lips. Lips complemented by those new red horn-rimmed glasses. Y/N had given them to her for her birthday.
When Carol's gaze met Y/N's figure, she quickly flicked the butt of her cigarette and raised her glasses. She gave her a beautiful smile, forcing Y/N to reciprocate. Her deep blue gaze swept over Y/N's figure, noting her paint-stained clothes.
The younger woman greeted the blonde discreetly, and before the blonde could reply, other words came out of her mouth.
"Is it fresh paint, because if it is, you'll have to walk away, my dear."
Y/N was silent. Frozen. But before her heart could begin to break, the blonde let out a laugh, opening the passenger door and patting the seat.
"I'm just kidding, honey. Come on up, I've got a surprise for you."
Y/N climbed in being careful not to stain the leather seats of the car. Because, even if Carol was playing, Y/N didn't want to upset her. She left her backpack on the back seats and settled into the seat.
The conversation flowed well, as usual. Carol asked about Y/N's classes and about her friend Fred, Y/N replied that she was fed up with Fred and her constant requests to psychoanalyse her paintings. Y/N swore that if Fred asked again, she would kick him. Carol just laughed. But when Y/N asked about Rindy, things changed drastically.
Y/N knew that Carol loved to talk about Rindy, and to a certain extent, she could tell that the blonde loved to be asked about her little girl, but she also knew that talking about Rindy was complicated for Carol.
Carol wanted more time with Rindy.
Rindy wanted more time with Carol.
But Harge was selfish enough to hurt his daughter, and the woman he once swore to love.
Carol mentioned that Rindy had gone to the cinema with her father, and was now obsessed with the new Disney film.
Y/N knew that Carol had wanted to take Rindy to see that film. She had told Y/N while the latter was drawing the blonde's hands. Y/N only managed to momentarily take Carol's hand and give it a comforting squeeze.
Carol took her eyes off the road for just a few seconds to give her a smile and ask her to make herself comfortable. The surprise was still several kilometres down the road.
————————————————————————
Carol's hand had to move it a little in order to wake her up.
Y/N did not want to go to sleep but, the night before, she slept late in order to finish a homework.
They both got out of the car, and that's when Y/N realised where she was.
A meadow, in the middle of nowhere
"Where are we?"
"In a quiet place, where we can eat and paint".
Carol pulled out of the boot a small picnic basket and a canvas. Carol had bought some for Y/N that they kept in their flat.
"Do you know that my flat is near a desolate park, not to mention that your flat faces the non-tourist area of Central Park?"
"Yes, but I want to be completely alone with you."
Y/N helped Carol set up the blanket and the small easel that Y/N carried from her university.
"Are you going to steal from me?" asked Y/N jokingly.
"Even better"
Carelessly, Carol took Y/N's face in her hands and kissed her on the lips.
It was not the first time.
They had already kissed in the confines of Carol's flat, or on the floor of Y/N's room, but this was different.
To be kissed by Carol's lips and the rays of sunlight was something totally new and different for Y/N.
It was refreshing.
It was intoxicating.
It was… spring.
Both separated and enjoyed a few seconds of each other's closeness, each other's breath on their lips wet with the other's saliva, Carol's perfume.
"Could you paint for me?" Carol asked, just before leaving a small kiss on Y/N's nose.
"Of course"
Y/N took her materials and prepared them. As she did so, Carol took small pieces of strawberry from the basket.
"What do you want me to paint?"
"I want you to paint…" Carol moved to Y/N's side to kiss her lobe and give her a little nibble. "What beauty means to you."
And that afternoon, Y/N painted Carol again.
————————————————————————
Y/N's feet shifted nervously on the carpet.
She looked up to see her last painting perfectly framed on the wall.
Carol had said it was her best work.
The laughter startled her and forced her to stop her ramblings.
She pay full attention to Carol and Abby who come with trays full of liquor glasses and snacks so eccentric that Y/N had already forgotten the names.
"Isn't it beautiful?" asked Carol
"The painting?" asked Abby.
"Yes. Y/N made it.
"Who is he supposed to be?"
"Me, silly" Carol laughed as she smacked the brunette's arm.
"You don't look alike"
"It's an interpretation" interrupted Y/N. "I gave up trying to replicate the beauty of the world, so I decided to release my own interpretation."
"You've got a bit of a… sappy interpretation of Carol."
"Abigail!"
The conversation continued, Carol and Abby talking about work, but Y/N remained completely silent.
I knew that interpretations were subjective.
No one would ever see exactly what she saw.
But…
She had kissed Carol.
She had touched Carol
She was something of Carol's.
No one could know her better than she did.
Right?
Was this what Fred was talking about?
And/N did she put her own expectations before Carol's true self?
Was Y/N selfish?
Did she really know Carol?
Carol was about to offer a full glass of white wine, before Y/N abruptly stood up. She apologised quietly and went into the bathroom.
————————————————————————
One.
Y/N closed her eyes tightly.
Two.
she hug her knees tightly.
Three.
She threw herself to the ground.
Four.
She hid under the bed.
Five.
In the foetal position, I cover her ears.
Six.
She waited.
Seven.
She waited.
Eight.
She waited.
Nine.
She waited.
Ten…
She opened her eyes.
She couldn't see the shoes.
It had happened again.
The screaming had stopped.
The banging could not be heard.
Her father had beaten her mother unconscious.
As Margaret had instructed, after ten seconds, she locked herself in her room. Waiting for her older sister to arrive.
Fiona, her friend, told her that she once read in a magazine that when you feel a sense of panic run down your back, bury your fingernails in your palm.
Physical pain takes you away from emotional pain.
But when Y/N did, locked in the room. It had already lost its effect.
She could no longer get her head out of her chest pain.
Trying to calm herself, she began to walk in circles around the room, until her little toe stubbed her bed.
The intense pain and trying to keep quiet brought her out of her breathlessness.
She knew that physical pain drove away her emotions.
She learnt it at the age of seven.
————————————————————————
Y/N locked herself in the bathroom in Carol's room.
Near the hall.
And too quiet.
As best she could and trying to be as quiet as possible, Y/N began to slap her thighs.
With her fists and all the strength she could muster in her arms, she began to paint her white skin with purple spots.
Until a blow to her knee encapsulated her doubts about Carol, to concentrate on the throbbing pain in her leg.
Carefully, she sat down on the toilet seat as she felt her eyes begin to fill with tears from the pain.
"Honey, are you okay?"
Carol's voice pulled her away from her pain.
"Yes, I'll be right out"
Y/N massaged the area, flushed the toilet and turned on the tap, washing her hands and refreshing her face.
Carefully, she dried her face and her hands, wiping away the tears.
Carefully, she opened the door and as she was about to close it, her back collided with the blonde's chest.
"Hey, are you all right, darling?"
Carol's voice was soft, velvety, as was her hand caressing Y/N's cheek.
"Yes"
"Are you sure?, I know Abby can be a bit… infuriating, but she's a great friend."
"Don't worry"
With all her remaining strength Y/N gave her a smile.
Carol smiled back and gave her a small kiss on the forehead.
————————————————————————
At times, Y/N believed that her life was an illusion.
Illusions are representations caused by the imagination and/or by the deception of the senses.
Being there. Lying next to Carol seemed like a trick of her brain.
It didn't seem real.
It did not feel palpable.
I didn't feel I deserved it.
What did Carol see in her?
What made her special?
Y/N I hear Carol talking about other women.
Her first love. Her classmate from elementary school.
A girl he met in France.
Abby.
Therese.
What was so special about Y/N?
She was not pretty.
She was not intelligent.
She was not funny.
She was… Nothing.
"I like your drawings."
"What do you like to draw?
"I like to watch you draw..."
"Could you draw something for me?"
"Do you think I'm too pretty to be painted?"
"Could you draw me?"
Was Carol the one who put her Y/N expectations before the real woman?
Note:
This came out a little darker than I originally imagined.
