But we have a police monitor anyway!
Memphis TN, we have a problem. The police killing of Tyre Nichols looks to be even more egregious than the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis in 2020. But Memphis is more confounding, given that the five police officers were black, like their victim. As is the police chief, as is our chief in Madison WI. Therein lies today’s tale.

AHHHH!!! Hello hi I’m back and I absolutely adore all of your Old guard x 00q crossover ideas!!! Thank you for indulging in my brainworms lol. Nicky calling Q bambino absolutely undoes me ahhhh 🥺🥺 and Q being the baby of the group is so funny!! When I was first thinking about it I headcannoned that Q was older than booker by a couple decades but honestly I think that just makes Q being solidly the kid of the group even funnier. Q, hasn’t been the newest member of the guard for 250+ years, dead eye staring as Booker (50 years younger than him) and Nile (literal 20-something-year-old), both skip mostly past baby treatment while Andy still calls him kiddo all the time.
Broooo and Bond seeing Q killed in front of him?? Maybe as a result of his actions??? Like. The guilt!! The angst!! The pain!! *chefs kiss* lovely absolutely lovely. And him being left alone to stew with the body?!?? Just him struggling to compartmentalize enough to do his job, kind of going into shock, wondering why the hell Q dying hurts as much as it does. Just Bond having his “oh” moment only after Q dies. Realizing he loved the snarky little bugger that kept him alive and guided him and helped him hide from medical and M. And then realizing that he can’t do anything about those feelings because Q is dead and it’s his fault. Only to have Q come back to life in front of his eyes.
I have this one scene in my head right now where MI6 has to work with the CIA for some reason and Copley is there as a favor for one of his former coworkers or smthn. And the entire time the man is completely unsubtle like. The opposite of subtlety, keeps glancing over at Q with wide eyes and Q’s dying inside. He’s developing an eye twitch and every time Copley looks at him M and R look at Q like “what’s going on rn” and Q’s like “I never should’ve okayed working with this man”. The two double O agents of your choice guarding the door are simultaneously staring a hole in the side of Q’s head and texting the double O groupchat about the situation.
Also you’re so right about Nile and Q bonding over art!! Ahhh I’m just imagining she takes a day trip to come visit him in London and they go to a bunch of museums and just chat. She calls him old man as a joke and he’s so used to being babied that he secretly loves it. And ik London is MI5 jurisdiction but I think it would be so funny if Nile, Q, and Bond get caught up in some kind of plot and have to save the day. Even better if this is Bond’s first time meeting any of the old guard members in person. Just Nile meeting Bond for the first time, giving him a once over and looking at Q and calling him a cradle robber. And Q is standing there having flashbacks to Bond saying that exact same thing while James is keeled over, laughing so hard he’s crying for the first time in decades. Nile just crosses her arms and is like “I said what I said”. NILE AND MONEYPENNY BONDING HDNDNDNDNDN. The two of them bonding 100 percent gives Q a headache.
And just. Q’s stuck in the UK because of his job, but he’s still part of the guard! Andy and him face timing to give updates, Joe and Nicky constantly texting him everyday, Nile calling him to tell him about whatever stupid shit is going on at the moment. When everything with Quynh gets sorted out I bet she and him constantly call too!! And him and Booker being tech bros!! And ofc they visit him pretty often, popping in and out of the country sometimes all together sometimes one at a time. Just being family y’know?
oop welcome back!
yesss it doesn't matter how old you headcanon Q as (personally i'm thinking after booker, think robert frobisher vibes), he is still baby. he used to scoff at it but he has to admit he misses it whenever he has to go back to london. eve's teasing makes up for it a little bit.
oh after bond finally finds out and they're Talking About It, he kind of feels relieved. at least he doesn't have to worry about Q dying anymore, right? but then bond learns about quynh, and then about merrick (Q deeply regrets not being able to fish them out of that one, he did clean up after them though), and about things worse than death
and then Q tells him oh so gently that no, he could still die. one day he will stop healing and it will be his time, and it's going to be okay, james, we all have to make peace with our mortality. and maybe the reminder of Q's mortality again is what finally kicks bond into Doing Something about this thing he has for Q
after the whole merrick debacle, Q not being in on the punishment to exclude booker offers him comfort and a place to stay. booker rejects the former but accepts the latter. Q always has a hand out and simply waits for booker to reach back.
Q maintaining a separate network of safehouses for his fam because he is still 50-50 on trusting copley. nile asks him if he has a stash similar to andy's cave. the next time they're in america, Q directs them to stay at his little townhouse in boston where she finds a couple of lost rembrandts and vermeers casually hanging in the bedrooms.
the second time bond witnesses Q die is when they're all drunk off their asses and joe dares him to jump into a pool from the third floor balcony. it's a large pool. Q misses. he revives laughing.
From the TV show: Robert, Cora, Mary, Edith, Bertie, Tom, Isobel, Dickie, Carson, Mrs Hughes, Anna, Bates, Thomas, Baxter, Molesley, Mrs Patmore, Andy, Daisy, Harold
From the films: Guy
New additions played by: Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, Arty Froushan
(We know that Sybbie and George will appear thanks to the child actors' parents posting on Instagram.)
Who is NOT listed:
From the TV show who also appeared in at least one film: Matthew Goode (Henry Talbot), Paul Copley (Mr Mason), Samantha Bond (Rosamund) (and of course Maggie but I don't think Violet is appearing as a ghost)
From the films: Tuppence Middleton (Lucy), Imelda Staunton (Maud - but she already confirmed this)
Gonna be pedantic, but it's actually not quite proper grammatically to say "many other fan favorites" after the "exciting new additions", as it implies that somehow the fan favorites are new additions, but I assume does this mean someone will cameo. But also not like Paul didn't play Harold in the TV show lol.
Tuppence Middleton is filming The Forsyte Saga this summer, so I assume she's too busy to be in the film overall, but maybe Lucy will have a cameo? Don't know what this spells for Henry, but we'll see.
Also not listed is Shirley MacLaine is also not listed as Martha, Cora and Harold's mother in the TV show.
Basically just what the title says: a masterlist of the GIF's/GIF sets I've made 😇.

Next month is the annual exhibitor showcase Cinemacon where movie studios tout their wares for the very anxious theater owners.
It has already been announced that Sony is sitting this year out, so no info on VENOM 3: THE LAST DANCE, to be released October 25, 2024.
While I assume there will be some changes to the lineup, so far it is shaping up to be:
OPENING DAY: International Day features a screening of Universal 80s series remake THE FALL GUY starring Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Hannah Waddingham and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who has said in a recent interview that it is a small role) ; directed by David Leitch (BULLET TRAIN, DEADPOOL 2)
DAY ONE: WB pulls up with their presentation "The Big Picture". It will be the first Cinemacon for James Gunn in his position as Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DC Studios.
I expect a song and dance from Gunn about how awesome sauce the new DC film universe will be
I'll believe it when I see it.
Sure to tease SUPERMAN LEGACY which stars David Corenswet as the title character, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX, BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUCE
MORE STUDIO OFFERINGS
Also, FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA
, the supernatural horror film THE WATCHERS, directed and written by Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of M. Night
, M. Night Shymalan's TRAP starring Josh Hartnett, ALTO KNIGHTS with Robert DeNiro playing a dual role.
Certainly don't expect anything to hear about THE BATMAN sequel other than it won't shoot until 2025. There has been no reason provided, but some say there isn't even a script, others say it was because there were no soundstages available in London to shoot this year.
DAY TWO: ANGEL STUDIOS - The outfit behind SOUND OF FREEDOM.
I suspect they will tease SIGHT starring Greg Kinnear and BONHOEFFER (aka GOD'S SPY) about German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, starring August Diehl, Flula Borg and Clarke Peters.
LIONSGATE: I suspect they will tease Guy Ritchie's THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE starring a pick-a-mix of men for all tastes - Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Henry Golding and Hero Fiennes Tiffins
; the action-thriller BOY KILLS WORLD fronted by Bill Skarsgård and costarring Sharlto Copley, Andrew Koji (who is working like mad), Famke Janssen and Isaiah Mustafa.
Surely, another Bill Skarsgård film THE CROW with fka Twigs
; THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 1, which is the third film in the franchise - doing a bit of FAST AND THE FURIOUS mathing. It stars Madelaine Petsch, Froy Guittierez and Gabriel Basso
At long last the BALLERINA has pliete into the spotlight. This JOHN WICK spinoff stars Ana De Armas, with Anjelica Huston reprising her role from JOHN WICK 2. It's direct by Len Wiseman who directed the UNDERWORLD films starring his ex-wife Kate Beckinsale.
BORDERLANDS, an action-comedy based on the game, brought to the screen by Eli Roth. Starring Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, Haley Bennett and Édgar Ramírez, amongst others.
and WHITE BIRD, which is in the same universe as the excellent children geared film WONDER. It was due to come out in 2023 but was pushed back due to the actors strike.
UNIVERSAL / FOCUS FEATURES: I suspect teases for Dev Patel's directorial debut MONKEY MAN. The film was originally slated to go to Netflix but Jordan Peele, under his Monkey Paw shingle, bought it and took it to Universal so it could have a theatrical release. *Granted, Netflix does a theatrical release for most of their films in certain markets, but I get Peele's rationale.
Their Monsters Universe theatrical idea didn't work, but Universal has realized there is more than one way to skin a cat. They are creating a Universal Monsters themed area at their parks and their monster/horror film ABIGAIL is a re-imaging of DRACULA'S DAUGHTER. It stars Alisha Weir, Melissa Barrera and Dan Stevens and features Angus Cloud in one of his last roles.
THE FALL GUY most definitely will have a place. Same with THE BIKERIDERS (with Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, Norman Reedus, Mike Faist, etc.), which was a 20th Century (Disney owned) Film, and even though it was the first major film out the gate ahead of Oscars/Golden Globes' FYC season with a screening and Q&A held in L.A., the studio purposely stalled the engine and towed it off their schedule. It will now be distributed by Focus Features in the U.S., and Universal, internationally.
Other possible teases? DESPICABLE ME 4, TWISTERS, the standalone sequel to the 90s film TWISTERS
, horror film SPEAK NO EVIL starring James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis
, WICKED: PART ONE and Sir Ridley Scott's GLADIATOR 2 with Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal.
There will also be a surprise screening; studio unknown.
DAY THREE: PARAMOUNT: Expected: the mixed live-action and animated comedy IF starring Ryan Reynolds, written/directed and produced by John Krasinski.
A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE, GLADIATOR 2 (though this is a co-production with Universal, so maybe Uni will tout it), SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3, the unending production that is MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 8,
WALT DISNEY: Possible: THE FIRST OMEN, KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
, MOANA 2, INSIDE OUT 2, DEADPOOL 3, ALIEN: ROMULUS, CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD and SNOW WHITE.
CinemaCon always closes out with their awards (which always ties into an upcoming release. Funny how that works.
So far the honourees are:
Star of the Year - Lupita Nyong'o (A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE)
Breakthrough Performer of the Year - Joseph Quinn (A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE)
CinemaCon Vanguard Award - Amy Poehler (INSIDE OUT 2)
Director of the Year - Shawn Levy (DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE)
Top 12 Portrayals of Nephew Fred (from "A Christmas Carol")
Continuing my Christmas Carol Week Marathon, here’s the next character we’re going to cover: Nephew Fred. I’ve often felt Fred is sort of an underrated character in the Carol story. While he is featured in many adaptations, he never seems to get the kudos that characters like Cratchit or even the more minor Fezziwig get. This is funny to me because, outside of Cratchit, he’s arguably the most important human character in the book that Scrooge is involved with.
Much like Cratchit, Fred acts as a foil to Scrooge, but in a different way. He, too, is an opposing figure: a man who is related to Scrooge, and seems fairly well-off (despite Scrooge calling him “poor enough,” which really gives you a good idea of the vast differences between the classes of the time, if nothing else), but while his uncle is foul-tempered and at times downright cruel, Fred is jovial, mischievous, and yet also has a kind heart. He is someone who totally and completely embraces not only the holiday spirit, but the very humanity Scrooge shuns: he’s outgoing and playful, and thinks of how he can help the people around him whenever possible.
What makes Fred truly important in the story, however, is the simple fact he’s Scrooge’s only living relative. It says something about Scrooge that his nephew wants nothing more than to be with him for the holidays, and cares for him greatly, yet Scrooge treats him with such disdain. There’s a lot you can read into with their relationship, and why it is the way it is (Dickens leaves some indications, but doesn’t spell a whole lot out in crystal clarity), but the important takeaway is that he represents another great mistake in Scrooge’s life. Ebenezer doesn’t just shut out people who are “beneath” him, such as workers and clients, but also closes himself off from the people he should be most connected to: his own family. When Scrooge repents, he vows to make that right and rejoins not only society, but the family he never should have let go.
Fred is yet another character I’ve played (twice this time), and he’s honestly a really hard character to nail: it’s difficult to keep the energy and the good will he presents up and not make it seem phony or overly obnoxious. Once again, picking my favorite versions of him out was difficult, but I think these choices are more or less accurate. Here are My Top 12 Portrayals of Nephew Fred!
12. David Tate, from A Christmas Carol (1971). (He'd be higher if he had more to do.)
11. Ray Middleton, from Shower of Stars: A Christmas Carol. (In this version, the actor who plays Fred also plays the Ghost of Christmas Present. Interesting little twist there.)
10. Robert Cochran, from Scrooge (1935). (This is the first sound version of the Carol, and it has NOT aged well, but I do genuinely think this is a good Fred.)
9. Donald Duck, from Mickey’s Christmas Carol. (R.I.P. Clarence Nash. Also, see David Tate.)
8. The Version from “A Christmas Carol (1997).” (I’ve never been able to positively identify the voice actor for this one. I THINK it might be an actor by the name of Ian Whitcomb, but I am not totally certain.)
7. Paul Copley, from A Christmas Carol (1977).
6. Brian Worth, from Scrooge (1951).
5. Michael Medwin, from Scrooge (1970). (For some reason, in this version, the character’s name is changed to Harry Huffman. The same name was used in the recent Netflix remake...but that's another story.)
4. Roger Rees, from A Christmas Carol (1984).
3. Colin Firth, from A Christmas Carol (2009).
2. Barry MacKay, from A Christmas Carol (1938). (I have some issues with this version, but I think its take on Nephew Fred is almost perfect.)
The Third Secret (Charles Crichton, 1964)
Cast: Stephen Boyd, Pamela Franklin, Richard Attenborough, Diane Cilento, Jack Hawkins, Paul Rogers, Alan Webb, Rachel Kempson, Peter Sallis, Patience Collier, Freda Jackson, Judi Dench, Peter Copley. Screenplay: Robert L. Joseph. Cinematography: Douglas Slocombe. Production design: Thomas N. Morahan. Film editing: Frederick Wilson. Music: Richard Arnell.
The Third Secret is a moderately engaging whodunit probably most remembered today as Judi Dench's first movie. She plays the assistant to a gallery owner, Alfred Price-Gorham (Richard Attenborough), who becomes a suspect in the murder of a psychoanalyst, Dr. Leo Whitset (Peter Copley). Actually, Whitset's death was ruled a suicide until Alex Stedman (Stephen Boyd), an American who is a well-known commentator on British TV news, rejects the idea that Whitset, who was his analyst, could have killed himself. So Stedman starts snooping, aided by Whitset's precocious young daughter, Catherine (Pamela Franklin), who also doesn't believe her father could have committed suicide. She knows the names and addresses of Whitset's other clients, who include not only Price-Gorham but also a beautiful but neurotic young woman, Anne Tanner (Diane Cilento), and a distinguished judge, Sir Frederick Belline (Jack Hawkins). Stedman figures that each of them had a motive for killing Whitset, to keep the secrets they had confided in their analyst from becoming known. Naturally, complications ensue, and there are some mildly shocking twists before the truth -- the titular "third secret" -- comes out. Dench's few brief moments on film hardly make it worth seeking out, but it has the familiar comfortable quality of British mysteries and some nice black-and-white Cinemascope camera direction by Douglas Slocombe.
"USA art" is a broad topic, as it spans many periods, styles, and movements. Here's an overview of key periods and styles in American art:
1. Colonial and Early American Art (1600s-1800s):
Portraiture: In colonial America, art was primarily centered around portraiture. Artists like John Singleton Copley and Gilbert Stuart are famous for their depictions of early American figures.
Landscape: Early American artists also depicted the vast and varied American landscape, though this genre would become more prominent in the 19th century.
2. 19th Century:
Hudson River School: This movement focused on romanticized landscapes, capturing the beauty of the American wilderness. Notable artists include Thomas Cole and Frederic Edwin Church.
Realism: In the late 19th century, American artists began to focus on realistic depictions of everyday life, with artists like Winslow Homer and Thomas Eakins leading the way.
3. Early 20th Century:
American Impressionism: Influenced by the French Impressionists, American artists like Mary Cassatt and Childe Hassam explored light and color in their work.
Ashcan School: This movement depicted the gritty realities of urban life, with artists like George Bellows and Robert Henri focusing on the lives of the working class.
Modernism: As American artists were exposed to European avant-garde movements, they began experimenting with abstraction, as seen in the works of Georgia O'Keeffe and Marsden Hartley.
4. Mid-20th Century:
Abstract Expressionism: Post-World War II, this movement put American art on the global map. Artists like Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko are known for their abstract, emotive works.
Pop Art: This movement, led by artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, focused on mass culture and consumerism, using imagery from advertisements, comic strips, and everyday objects.
5. Late 20th Century to Present:
Minimalism: Artists like Donald Judd and Frank Stella stripped art down to its essentials, focusing on simple geometric forms and clean lines.
Contemporary Art: Today, American art is incredibly diverse, with artists exploring themes related to identity, politics, technology, and culture. Prominent contemporary artists include Kara Walker, Jeff Koons, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
6. Native American Art:
Native American art has a rich history that predates European colonization. This includes pottery, weaving, beadwork, and carving, with each tribe having its own distinct artistic traditions. Contemporary Native American artists often blend traditional techniques with modern themes.
7. African American Art:
African American artists have made significant contributions to American art, particularly during the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s and 1930s, with figures like Aaron Douglas. Today, artists like Kerry James Marshall continue to explore African American history and identity.
These categories represent just a fraction of American art, which continues to evolve and reflect the nation's diverse experiences and perspectives.
