① “STILL FIGURING IT OUT!”

//てやんでいずmagazine vol.2 //
⚪︎Ted Talk - "Still Figuring It Out" by Tavi Gevinson https://youtu.be/E22icGCvGXK ⚪︎Web Magazine - ROOKIE rookiemag.com //てやんでいずmagazine vol.2 // Edit and design @hanakonagai | Published in September, 2023. | ngihnk.tumblr.com  #てやんでいずmagazine #zinemaking

As an old man, I felt like a trespasser whenever I looked at Rookie, but the writing and other contributions there could be incredibly compelling. The voices Rookie published are beyond valuable in our society, and I hope they continue to find places where they can be heard.

reading some of my old diary entries is seriously embarrassing...post-rookiemag.com-era realization that dress code feminism and ladybird-esque individualism is yucky and should not be recorded in a diary

Hey there, i'm a cis girl and I'm feeling some weird internalized biphobic shit rn..i just began to sort thru my feelings and realize I was bi and I thought I was good with myself but I just got my first crush on a girl maybe?? (Idk if I wanna date her or just be her friend or if it's just bc we make a lot of eye contact and she's nice to me idk) and aghh I just feel so creepy??? Idk I feel bad for feeling like this but I just don't know how to accept myself or sort through my feelings at all:((
Hey cutie, it's totally normal to feel uncomfortable when you first start dating people of the same sex. Even if you're aware of the biphobia you've internalized, like you are, it's still something you have to actively work against. Try to remind yourself that the intimacy and love you experience with a girl may look and feel different from what you've seen portrayed in the media. But, as long as you treat your crush (or any romantic interest) with respect and love, you are headed in the right direction. Focus on trying to sort through your feelings objectively. If you're feeling uncomfortable about flirting with a girl or wanting to kiss her, try to understand where that feeling is coming from. Women are generally told to be submissive even in heterosexual relationships, so it makes sense that being more romantically aggressive feels weird, but that doesn't mean it's right. You aren't creepy. You aren't a predator. You are just as entitled to feeling confident in who you love (or like!) as any heterosexual person. Please try to remember that!Also here is an article from rookiemag.com that is filled with stories of navigating queer relationships for the first time. I've found hearing about other people's experiences (and mistakes) can be very helpful in sorting through your own feelings: http://www.rookiemag.com/2014/11/liking-girls/Good luck bug!!-Elle 💖

Vintage Eyeglasses 101
It can be really challenging to find the right eyeglasses that really matches you. The options at your eye doctor’s office makes it seem like the only options are all Harry Potter–like specs or frames decorated with rhinestone Ed Hardy logos. Most people today turn to vintage or hipster style of clothes to get away from the monotony of mass-produced mainstream fashion, so why not opt for vintage stye eyeglasses and frames, right?
How to Find the Vintage Eyeglasses of Your Dreams
The truth is that eyeglasses rule, and anyway you shouldn’t let your style choices be dictated by someone you’re trying to attract. Consider your less-than-perfect vision a blessing; your frames can act as an extension of your personal style... Read more at RookieMag.com
Legend has it that the vintage eyewear were invented by the Roman emperor Nero who, aside from an unsightly neckbeard, was known for avoiding the midday glare of the sun with polished emeralds held in front of his eyes. Then later, during the 12th century, Chinese judges in China would wear pieces of smoky quartz to conceal their faces while questioning witnesses. Fun fact!
The Complete Guide To Sunglasses Styles
For as long as there has been a sun in the sky, there has been a need for sunglasses. However, like most other menswear staples born out of necessity, there is much more to these frames than meets the eye. Pun intended... Read more at FASHIONBEANS

Introducing Rookie, A Podcast Hosted By Tavi Gevinson
Rookie is a magazine by and for teenagers and their cohorts of any age. I was 15 when I founded our site (rookiemag.com) in 2011, because I couldn’t find a publication for young people that respected its readers’ intelligence, honestly addressed what they were going through, and had actual teens writing for it. In the […]
