Do you find it pretty funny that Star from the upcoming animated Disney Wish looks like a Luma from the Mario games? And what makes it even funnier is that the last time Disney featured a wishing star, the star in question was the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio. And since Lumas are often associated with Rosalina, then does that mean that Rosalina is based on the Blue Fairy, with elements of Wendy Darling thrown in?

Well, no, actually, not about Luma. A lot of Japanese cartoon and video game art, as we know it, is inspired by Classic Disney. Anime as we know it really wasn’t a thing until Osamu Tezuka started animating, and he took an ENORMOUS amount of inspiration and influence from Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Great minds think alike, because over the years, he isn’t the only great Japanese artist who drew significant influence from the Disney style. If you’ve ever noticed that anime characters (and video game characters like those in the Mario franchise) have big eyes, big heads, and lots of round shapes, it’s because you can draw a direct line back to Disney. I’m sure Rosalina, just like basically every mainstream anime female ever, is based on Classic Disney females in art style.

My point is, Wish’s Star doesn’t look like Nintendo’s Luma.

Nintendo’s Luma looks like Snow White and the Seven Dwarf’s character concepts. Which just so happens to be what Wish’s Star character looks like, too. Disney thought it up first; Nintendo just referenced Disney’s idea a little earlier than Wish did.

I think all that happened is Modern Disney said, “what if we make a movie that feels like an origin story/love-letter to classic Disney, and the wishing-Star theme?” And then someone in the writer’s room was like, “what’s the earliest appearance of the wishing Star? Was it the first movie our studio made, Snow White?” And someone else was like, “no, she wishes on a well, not a star. But let’s look at the archives.” And they did, and they found that concept art, and it helped them to tie this movie in with the very first Disney Animated Movie.

despite your blatant disregard for rules, i really have to agree with you! there's something fascinating to me about the illusion of perfection. like you said, she looks like she's got it all, but she's just like the rest of us at the end of the day. no matter what she does or possibly leads you to believe, she is not perfect. because perfection isn't real. and augh, i just love it.

thinking about it now, it makes me think of how greek gods are portrayed! maybe i should think about that more................ maybe another playthrough of hades is in order hrmmmmm hades 2 release already challenge.

Head Cannons!

So, I wanted to put out some general head cannons about the character’s personalities because why not? Luigi -He’s a soft boi but knows what he wants when he wants it and is willing to do what it takes to get it. -He’s the prince of the mushroom kingdom because Mario and his adoptive parents didn’t want him to have to stress about having too much work since he was frail as a kid. He no longer is, but it’s just how things turned out. -Luigi has a little bit of trauma from his time with Daisy. Of course things turned out okay and it was only temporary, but he won’t even look at her for things that she said and did to him over that day they were together. -Luigi sort of already knew that Bowser was hiding a big part of him. He’s not an oracle, but he occasionally has these dreams where he sees a small bit of the future and one of the things he saw was Bowser changing forms with Luigi in his arms. -He’s transgender, but genderfluid more than anything. His pronouns are He/him and he is comfortable being addressed as a prince, but he adores wearing dresses and skirts. He’s also generally more feminine in nature because of his kindness. No one judges him though, since he is the best ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom and if anyone did try to say something, they’d be facing war from Mario’s Empire.

Mario -Mario is the best older brother. Absolutely the best, he loves his little brother more than anything and when Luigi came out to him as young teens, he helped Luigi get more comfortable in his skin and helped when Luigi needed help picking a more masculine name. -Mario is not an emperor, yet! His father before him also wasn’t an emperor until after he married, so, potentially, if Mario chose to never marry but still have offspring, he’d never be emperor. Not that he minded, he was pretty content by himself. -Mario is Polyamorous! He is okay with just one partner, but he knows he needs more to be satisfied. That being said, he wants a closed relationship, he doesn’t want to have to worry about his partners getting sick because of a bad time or anything like that. -Mario is totally okay with Bowser and Luigi’s relationship and actually finds it cute! Interspecies relationships aren’t a problem for him since his and Luigi’s parents were one such couple. Their parents were a Toadette and a Bogmire by the names of Timpani and Blumiere respectively.

Peach -She’s a great girl :) the best girl and a great friend to Bowser. She never let his intimidating true appearance change her opinion of Bowser, even when he would get angry. She loves Bowser as a brother and has always cared for him and always will support him. -She becomes an ambassador for the Koopa Kingdom since she is really good at public speaking and negotiations. She doesn’t actually become a princess since she isn’t related to Bowser, but she is perfectly content with her position and is allowed to travel as she pleases between business meetings. -She isn’t exactly Poly, but she eventually ends up in a closed relationship with two people. She’s not the most active partner, but is a good compromise between their personalities and issues. She’s soft and kind, but knows when to put her foot down. She also appreciates aspects from both since one is responsible and doting while the other is strong and diligent. Peach loves both of them because they allow her to explore and be herself while still welcoming her back almost as if nothing has changed. -Peach can’t ever see her parents again, sadly, as the pipe never returns during their lifetime and her parents are left knowing that her and Bowser are either dead or lost somewhere. She regrets not calling them more often, but knows that she is much happier in this new world full of magic and beautiful scenery.

Bowser -Bowser has anger issues, but he does everything he can to keep from being violent or angry with anyone. He even commissioned a special room so that he could rage and not damage anything important in the castle. it’s full of easily made china, bats, punching bags, breakable boards, etc. He enjoys the relief it brings when he feel like he can’t control his emotions well enough. Luigi and Peach are also senses of calm for him, being able to ground him when he was starting to get mad. -He’s very uncertain with his and Luigi’s relationship at first, worried that their rushing it, but Luigi is quick to reassure him that he wouldn’t be there if he didn’t want Bowser. Luigi is also the first to initiate a kiss between them because he knows Bowser is too much of a worry wart. -Bowser adores Luigi as much as Luigi adores Bowser. He’s the first person to truly accept him and appreciate him in his true form besides Peach, and Luigi is the first person to actually like that form more than his human form. (Bowser wasn’t sure why until Luigi explained about his preferences later on in the relationship, but he was more than happy to oblige) -For whatever reason, even in Bowser’s human form, he and Luigi are never able to have a biological child. -Bowser is a righteous king and a good ruler and lover. He’s kind and knows when to step away while still being able to command respect and, when needed, fear, but he’s always looking to solve things peacefully.

Extras -Daisy is eventually tried and sent to an island that no one can reach once she’s there with only the basics to survive. She does eventually escape, but she no longer has any power and it took time for her to build herself back up to attack. -Waluigi and Wario become Bowser’s servants since they showed remorse for what happened. However, they aren’t allowed anywhere near Luigi because of his trauma. -Queen Rosalina, Queen of the Boos, does not like Bowser and thinks he is unfit to rule. -Donkey Kong, king of the Kongs, is a recluse and hides his people, however, when word reached him of a new, kinder Koopa King, he attended the coronation which introduced him to a new world of people. -Prince Boo, celestial being of the cosmos, is well known in the world and is both revered and feared. He was known to be chaotic, but only took real action when the galaxy is in danger. He enjoys teasing Luigi and eventually becomes a good friend to the human. Prince Boo does have a crush on Luigi, but for multiple reasons, he doesn’t pursue the human prince. -Koopalings for hire! They take the place of Wario and Waluigi and are basically hitmen or thugs for hire. Kamek recommends them for a simple retrieval mission and Luigi and Bowser both find the struggling kids cute and feel bad that they’ve had to live that way for so many years. They take the kids in a week after they get a very special present. Ludwig is the oldest at 17 and Larry and Lemmy are the youngest at 10. -The BeanBean Kingdom is ruled by Queen Cackletta and Prince Fawful, Their ambassadors, Bean and Peasley tried to steal Luigi’s voice to empower the Beanstar, but Prince Fawful heard of the plan and warned Luigi. Basically, the Super Star Saga plot takes place, but with altered characters and such. Mario becomes Rookie, Peach and Bowser are like Mario and Luigi, and Luigi is Peach ofc. That’s just how it goes lol. Things turn out great and Bowser, Luigi, and Mario are all able to acquire treaties with the BeanBean Kingdom. -Yoshi’s are more intelligent and have a kingdom and a super star of their own. Their king is literally named King Yoshi and is a rare Green Yoshi. -Penguins are sweet little babies that allow you to slide on them when traveling through their icy dessert hills. They are significantly larger than the ones we see in games and movies, since they are ridden, they have to be large enough to hold others. They love fish.

Mario => god of the sun, fire, warmth, chivalry, and might; associated with lions, cats and raccoons

Luigi => god of the moon, lightning, thunderstorms, courage, and fidelity; associated with dogs and foxes

Mia => goddess of family, food, baking, and devotion

Spike => god of the forge and construction, "rivalling" with Mario on the dominion of fire

Bowser => dark god, responsible for Luigi's disappearance

On the mortal side we have Peach, Daisy and Pio.

Who else would you consider a god or a mortal in this AU ? I love expanding this idea 8D

Hmmm so admittedly I've been focusing so much on the "story" and the relationship between the main characters, that I haven't given the prospect of any other characters much thought ^^; But I'll see what I can do.

Fyi Peach does technically have god blood in her, but it's only a little and not enough to qualify her as a full god (but does explain the powers she has that she often displays in the Mario verse). Mortals:

The Mario Family

Since Pio is mortal, this would mean that the rest of his family is too. So that includes Grandpa Mario, Arthur, Tony, and Marilyn. I also like to think that Marie is mortal too. Mario and Luigi are the only demi-gods in the family.

Toad (and the toad species in general)

I like to picture the toads as being nymphs or forest spirits in this AU (given they are fungi creatures). They are peaceful beings, but do not fare very well at fighting.

Professor E.Gadd

In this version I picture him a philosopher (much like the ancient Greek philosophers). He has gandered a reputation as being "mad" seeing as he has a fascination with the celestial domain, and only wishes to study the mysteries and wonder behind it.

Gods:

The Kongs

I had a think about it and I honestly feel like these characters would fit residing over constellations (much like real life animal constellations like Ursa Major, Cygnus, Delphinus etc). There was even a constellation called Musca Borealis (which I feel DK could reside over.

According to what I found: Musca Borealis (Latin for northern fly) was a constellation, now discarded, located between the constellations of Aries and Perseus. It was originally called Apes (plural of Apis, Latin for bee) by Petrus Plancius when he created it in 1612 (source)

Cranky could reside over the Cepheus constellation - which is also known as "Cepheus the King".

Rosalina

Very big stretch on this one as in the Mario verse Rosalina already resides over space. I don't see her as being a ruthless god in this AU or anything, but I imagine she would have more authority over the celestial domain.

Geno sighed, exhausted, slumping on the bed. As great as it was to be back on the fully repaired Star Road, it could be draining. There's more surveillance to be had and more wishes to be granted. And it's been a struggle to keep up with everyone he knew and loved, which made his days even more taxing.

Heck, it was almost last minute that he found out about Mo- err, the higher authority being invited for a competition!

He closed his eyes, curling up. He wished that he could have made a lot more time. Then, maybe, the higher authority wouldn't have been so lonely. But that was his responsibility and his responsibility alone.

"Geno," A soft voice interrupted his thoughts. "Geno, sweetie."

"Hm?" He replied, half-asleep.

"Oh, sorry." Rosalina smiled gently. "Did you have a rough day?"

"Oh, no," Geno smiled, trying to stifle a yawn. "It was...just an ordinary day today.."

"I see," Rosalina chuckled. "Well, would you like to tell me about it?"

"Hmm," Geno sleepily hummed, his head on her lap, leaning into her soft touch as she stroked the top of his head. "It wasn't anything too special. How's that tournament thing?"

"It's been going well," Rosalina gently replied. "Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who'd like to meet you."

"I'd like to meet them too..."

"Well, I'll let you take a nap. Then, I'll make you some nice chocolate chip cookies. Would you like that, Geno?"

Geno didn't answer, for he was already asleep. Rosalina smiled, giving him a maternal kiss on the head. She tucked him in and went towards the kitchen, intent on making him his favorite sweets.

Rosalina: Dad gets his surname from his father, who is the brother of Mario and Luigi's mother! But Dad doesn't really like Mario that much... So much that he didn't want me to even have his name in my full name! Mama passed away when I was little... But from what Dad tells me, she was a wonderful person!

What's your stance on Rosalina and Geno's relationship?

Oof that's a tough one.

So long story short, I don't think that Geno and Rosalina have a direct relationship to each other, but I'd like to think that they could have one.

And here the long and unnecessary explanation:

I'm not really sure if there is a definite origin story on what kind of star Geno is or how any of his kind came to be. There are so many star related species in the Mario universe, it's hard to think that they are not related in some way. And I like to think that Rosalina is more powerful and important than she actually is in cannon, that's just me tho I think.

As I see it, Geno and his other kind are like a first generation of Lumas that have aged to a point, then the ones that follow Rosalina now would be the second generation.

So this would have Geno looking at Rosalina as a motherly figure or at least a superiority to him in the past. But I'm not sure if she would be the "higher authority" Geno is speaking of or if she had anything to do with him at all. As far as I know Geno serves a council that send him to retrieve the star pieces. If Rosalina is ordering that council or is part of it or if she has nothing to do with it at all, I'm not sure.

It's hard to make a connection to two characters who never had a direct interaction.

aw, this one is very kind tbh. it reminds me that, yeah! rosalina is certainly on the more tragic side of characters, at least in terms of what i usually write. she doesn't show it on the surface, but the plight of her life is a very potent one. again, i adore the overarching theme of "be careful what you wish for" with rosalina. to hear that some of that actually goes noticed is quite nice, honestly.
