i know that some people are going to look at ruby and the doctor crying at the end of the episode and think that that was the show having them mourn over these teenagers going off to die, but i truly believe that those tears were from anger— ruby’s from the frustration of seeing your best friend be treated with such disrespect and disgust, and the doctor’s from the sheer indignation of it all, being so close to helping people, saving them, only to see that those people would rather stay in their own prejudices. and it seems there’s nothing you can do to change it. the rage and grief that comes with that

one thing dot and bubble accomplishes really well is lulling you into a false sense of security regarding lindy. you think as you’re watching, yeah, she’s irritating and petty and bitchy and awkward and clumsy and incompetent, but that’s not her fault, that’s just the way she was raised, she doesn’t know anything different, and surely we’re supposed to side with her, she’s sally sparrow, she’s elton, she’s leading a doctor-lite, so of course by the end she’ll “learn the error of her ways” and “change for the better” taking an example from the doctor. we’ve seen this before. we’ll grow to love her, her funny phrases and odd expressions, she’ll be iconic yet…

and then the ball drops. ricky is betrayed and killed in cold blood. this is woman self-centred to the point of no return. a heart of stone.

we spent the whole time following the POV of a monster, waiting for the narrative to give her a happy ending. jesus christ

I think Dot and Bubble might be one of my all time favorite episodes and since I’ve seen a lot of people being like “but HOW did the slugs get there/nothing was explained” I decided to share my interpretation:

The slugs were always there. I think, given the themes of the episode, the slugs are the indigenous inhabitants of that planet and the FineTime bubble was built around them. The FineTimers never noticed because they simply assumed they were the only thing of note on the planet, and it never became a problem because the slugs aren’t actually predators and the Dots usually navigate to avoid them.

Almost everything in nature is a carnivore if the opportunity presents itself. The slugs didn’t set out to eat anyone really, but with their habitat affected drastically, and the AI literally WALKING PEOPLE RIGHT INTO THEIR MOUTHS, they took the chance they were given.

Hopefully, of course, this means there are plenty more slugs on the outside waiting for Lindy Pepper Bean
