October has bot been my month. Just when I felt well enough to hit the roads again, I tweeked my hamstring. No running for a few weeks, but I can still cycle. I’ve had some nagging injuries from our winter USTA tennis season, so this morning, my workout focused primarily on rehab. Shoulder exercises: internal and external rotation, Y’s, T’s, & I’s. Stretching my soleus & gastroc and lastly glute bridges. 👍🏻 I have a tennis drill this evening, so no run for me today🌟 Being mindful in training is so important 🙌🏻 . . The older I get, the more I have learned to listen my body. 🧘‍♀️Growing up in gymnastics, we had the “no pain, no gain” mentality...which in my opinion, is just not healthy. Your squat may look different, that's ok. Your twist may look different, that's ok. I did a demo at 2 different heights, it doesn't matter. Squat & twist! So I did a crazy thing! I ran in my primitive sandals from @earthrunners in a relay from Austin to Corpus Christi, TX for the Cap to Coast relay. 223 miles with a 12 man team (@rawrunning) and we took home 1st place! . But it was no simple feat. The amount of preparation that goes into an event like this is an undertaking. So thankful for the people at RAW and @underarmour for making this possible. I can't wait to see the footage as well! . Of the 3 legs I ran, which added up to about 20 miles total, I was happy with two of the efforts, while the first leg was a disaster, but also outside of my control. Long story short, I got a huge thorn stuck in my foot! . Didn't let it stop me though. Finished the rest of the 20-some-hour race bloodied, bandaged and happier every step closer to the finish line! . Moral of the story reminded me that as humans we all fail. It's simply part of the experience. You can either let it fester and spoil your mind, or push on further despite the odds. If you're not failing at some point, you're probably not pushing yourself hard enough. Important things to remember for #runners but also anyone who is struggling.
