Rust Prevention Additives: A Desperate Measure for Metal Protection
Rust prevention additives are valuable chemical ingredients employed in different industries for shielding metal surfaces from oxidation and corrosion. Rust, being one of the most prevalent types of corrosion, is formed when iron or steel comes into contact with water and air, producing iron oxide. This not only leaves the metal compromised but also diminishes its lifespan and efficiency. By introducing rust prevention additives to oils, lubricants, paints, and coatings, industries can immensely improve the longevity and dependability of their metal properties.
The major purpose of rust preventive additives is to create a protective layer on the metal surface that serves as a barrier to moisture, air, and corrosive chemicals. Additives are commonly used in the automotive, marine, construction, and manufacturing industries where metal exposure to harsh environments is common and unavoidable.
Rust is a serious issue in the automotive sector because the parts constantly get exposed to humidity, road salt, and fluctuating weather patterns. Rust prevention additives are used most frequently in engine oil, underbody coating, and protective sprays. In addition to rust prevention, the additives preserve engine performance and the appearance of the vehicle over a long period. The automakers and maintenance personnel rely on the additives to preserve the metal parts in the visible as well as the concealed sections for a long period.
Seawater and high humidity make marine environments extremely hostile to metals. Offshore structures, ships, and dock equipment are most susceptible to rust and corrosion. To counter this, rust-inhibiting additives are applied in marine lubricants, greases, and protective coatings. They aid in forming a hydrophobic surface that keeps the metal away from corrosive substances and increases service life.
Within industrial and manufacturing applications, equipment, tools, and machinery tend to function in conditions where chemicals, water, or temperature variations exist. Rust inhibiting additives are blended with coolants, cutting fluids, and hydraulic fluids to protect important components. The routine use of the additives prevents snagging, reduces breakdowns, and lowers maintenance expenses.
The building construction sector also uses rust inhibitors in structural steel, rebars, and metal structures. When added to concrete admixtures or coatings, these additives prevent embedded metals from corrosion, particularly in coastal or marine areas. With age, buildings and infrastructures experience, the long-term benefit of applying rust prevention cannot be overemphasized.
Over the past few years, there has been a sustained trend towards environmentally friendly rust prevention additives. Companies now produce additives that are biodegradable, non-toxic, and environmental-compliant. These green alternatives are just as effective while contributing less to the environment, making them perfect for sustainable industrial processes.
In short, rust prevention additives are a vital component in the war on corrosion. Their functionality in ensuring the integrity of metal parts cannot be underscored enough. By forestalling rust, these additives facilitate longer product life, lower maintenance expenses, and enhanced performance efficiency. As industries evolve and cope with emerging environmental issues, demand for effective and eco-friendly rust prevention additives is likely to increase consistently.

LADOOR - PLATİN (2)
The door surface is a critical element in the design and functionality of any door. It can significantly impact not only the aesthetic appeal but also the overall durability and maintenance of the door itself. Understanding the various types of door surfaces available can help you make an informed decision when choosing the right door for your needs.
One popular type of door surface is made from wood. Wooden doors often provide a classic, timeless look, and can be stained or painted to suit your decor. However, they require regular maintenance to prevent warping and decay, especially in moist environments.
Another common door surface option is fiberglass. These doors are known for their resilience and ability to imitate the look of wood without the drawbacks. Fiberglass doors resist cracking, splitting, and rotting, making them an excellent choice for homeowners looking for low maintenance.
Metal doors, often made from steel or aluminum, are another option to consider. They offer superior security and durability, making them an ideal choice for commercial applications. Additionally, metal door surfaces can be finished with various coatings to enhance their appearance and protection against rust.
It's also crucial to consider the texture and finish of the door surface. Smooth finishes are easier to clean but may show fingerprints and scuffs more easily, while textured surfaces can hide imperfections but might require more effort for cleaning.
In summary, the selection of a door surface is an essential aspect of door planning. Whether you opt for wood, fiberglass, metal, or a combination of materials, being aware of the features, maintenance needs, and aesthetic potential of each option can lead to a more satisfying purchase. Invest time in selecting the right door surface to ensure that it complements your design vision while providing the functionality you require.
Ladoor
The term Ladoor refers to a specific type of door that is not only functional but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of any space. These doors are designed with a combination of durability and style, making them a popular choice for both residential and commercial buildings.
Ladoor options are available in various materials, including wood, metal, and composite materials. Each material offers its own unique appearance and benefits. For example, wooden Ladoor can provide a warm, natural look and can be customized with different finishes. Metal Ladoor, on the other hand, offers strength and security, making them ideal for entry points that require additional protection.
Additionally, Ladoor can feature various styles, such as single doors, double doors, or sliding doors, enabling homeowners and architects to choose the design that best fits their space. Some Ladoor styles include traditional panel doors, modern flat doors, and elegant French doors, each offering its unique charm.
When choosing a Ladoor, it is essential to consider factors such as insulation, maintenance, and design coherence with the rest of the home. Proper installation is also crucial to ensure the door operates smoothly and efficiently, contributing to energy savings and overall longevity.
Incorporating a Ladoor into your space can significantly impact the functionality and design. Whether you are looking to upgrade your home or design a new one, exploring Ladoor options can lead to fulfilling architectural decisions that marry utility and aesthetics.

𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰! ❅
what if Love and Deepspace was a college rock band?

𝐗𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐫 / 𝐙𝐚𝐲𝐧𝐞 / 𝐑𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐥 / 𝐒𝐲𝐥𝐮𝐬 / 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐛
Zayne is...
the bassist!
Using their band activities as a way to relieve stress and spend some time outside of the college library, pre-med student Zayne ended up being a rather unexpected addition to the group. He'd already been playing bass for quite some time, having picked it up back in his early teens, so he easily returned to it. Not caring for the unnecessary theatrics, Zayne showed up to gigs on time, practiced diligently and avoided alcohol during shows like the plague (much to Rafayel's dismay).
Although it may seem like he's a bit out of place, Zayne fits not only his assigned instrument perfectly, but the rest of the boys as well. Not long after signing up for band try outs and passing on the first try (he was actually the only bassist who showed up, however no one mentioned this Adam Clayton esque predicament to him to avoid making Zayne upset), he began hanging out with his newly acquired band outside of practice. It's not uncommon for them to "pick him up" from his lecture, most likely in Caleb's beat up sedan, drawing curious looks from his classmates.
Only Sylus knows how much all of it means to Zayne. The creative freedom, artistic expression, their uncanny friendships. Before a gig, after downing one (1) shot of vodka, Zayne teared up a little and confessed he's scared that soon his responsibilities will prevent him from playing with them. Time has passed since then, but Zayne is still trying to make peace with that and value the present more.
You and Zayne could be described as reluctant acquaintances. He's enrolled in most of your classes and attends them all without fail. Some of your fellow students snicker at him behind his back, making fun of Zayne's eagerness to learn. You, however, have always found it quite endearing and, truth be told, his knowledge could only be describes as extensive. Plus, well... He is in fact rather handsome, you can give him that.
You've debated, long and hard, whether or not you have a genuine crush on Zayne. What cemented your belief was one evening in a local bar – it was Friday night, you just passed a particularly challenging exam and your best friend offered to buy you both a couple of mojitos to celebrate. The next thing you know, you're situated at the very back of the room, thankful for the ever-present shadow which hides just how flustered you'd become after spotting Zayne on stage. You definitely had a crush on him.

❅ Ibanez Talman TMB420B-BKF
Sleek and elegant, simple and professional, Zayne likes to stick with the classics. It's a standard design, not without a certain reasoning for that. Zayne claims that's more than enough for him; his Ibanez is never dusty and the strings do not reek of rust like some people's. He knows that if he had more basses, he'd probably rarely put the other ones to use, so he's playing it safe.
❅ Epiphone Starling Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Ebony

Zayne's second guitar isn't a bass at all; it's a well-kept acoustic with a gentle floral design on the side. This one is solely for his own pleasure (and yours, by extension), although he does bring it to practice sometimes. He's quite skilled at this one as well, but still makes a very attentive student whenever Xavier teaches him how to play some of his favourites. Will sometimes attempt his bandmate's solos on it just to make everyone laugh – successfully, of course.

Kiss prompt! I’d be interested what you’d do with either #49 or #42. But if those are both hard, you could try #22, which might be easier?
Lots of choice, thank you @lewistheeditor! Because I apparently don't like an easy life, I went with 42, 'out of pride'.
I'm not entirely sure this was what the prompt intended, but it's my interpretation!
The Spark - 1.3k words, Teen and Up, established relationship, no warnings, no angst, just introspective fluff!
The Rat’s Chamber is loud this afternoon; representatives of the city’s largest guilds are seated down one long side of the table, and each man studiously avoids looking at the axe buried in the lacquered wood before them.
Vimes sits alone, on the other side of the axe. Vetinari muses on the probable symbolism of this from his position at the head of the table, where he listens to the raised voices with increasing - yet well-concealed - irritation.
The argument has been going on for some time, and Vimes is getting laid into from all angles. He is, however, defending himself deftly against every accusation and thinly veiled threat that is lobbed in his direction.
He is lobbing a fair amount of his own back in return.
Vetinari would be willing to intervene, but he knows absolutely that to do so without invitation from Vimes would be highly detrimental to their…relationship.
The word relationship evokes an odd feeling within him. Vetinari cannot recall the last time he had cause to use it in regard to himself; at least, in the manner it refers to now.
That is, an intimate relationship.
Thinking of it in those terms gives him a small thrill, and as Downey demands to know what Vimes is planning to do about…well, something that evidently has him very irate, Vetinari wrestles a small smile to prevent it from taking over his lips. He leans forward and covers his mouth with his hand, as an additional layer of protection against intrusive glances.
He tries very hard not to stare at Vimes, ignoring the colour in the man’s cheeks and dilation of his pupils that indicate he is very much riled, and the clenched fists that show he is fighting every impulse to act on it.
But the image is reminiscent of seeing the man in other – more intimate – ways. The way he looks when Vetinari has him spread, flushed and dishevelled, on the bed. Or, on one memorable occasion, on the table before them.
The fingers covering his mouth tap distractedly against his lips.
Vetinari hears his name mentioned and briefly drags his focus back to the argument, but it seems no one is awaiting his input, so he returns his attention to Vimes.
He has to remind himself, sometimes, that Vimes was not born into this. He had no noble upbringing; no elite education. No upper-class role models to instil the confidence that comes from believing you are the most important person in every room.
Some element of it must come to him naturally, then, instead; ingrained within his nature. The people in this room are some of the most powerful individuals in the city, and yet Vetinari has never once seen Vimes intimidated by any of them.
By anyone, in fact. Not even Vetinari himself. Because even before he became part of the nobility, Vimes showed respect to authority only in a kind of abstract way; when it was required for him to keep his job. As an alcoholic, barely keeping himself out of the gutter, he would still go toe to toe with the likes of Rust and Downey.
On two very memorable occasions he has even arrested Vetinari.
A man who would arrest his absolute ruler; what could you do with such a man, if not elevate him? Execute him? Of course not; what a waste, that would be.
Vetinari listens to Vimes tear Boggis apart over a spate of unlicenced thieving, and muses that ultimately, he had to promote the man to give him a social status that finally matched the fire that burned within him.
At times like these, Vetinari finds it fascinating to light the man’s touchpaper and then stand well back; a strange pride swells within him to see Vimes skilfully cut through the bluff and bluster.
He is filled, suddenly, with an urge to somehow convey that to Vimes.
Thankfully the meeting is coming to a close, or at least, everyone is finally tired of shouting at one another and has quietened down. Vimes seems to have won, but the others would undoubtedly insist it had not been a competition.
Vetinari raises an eyebrow and finally speaks. “Thank you, gentlemen. This has been…enthralling. I look forward to discussing it all again next week. For now, however, you may leave.”
There are glances exchanged at the abruptness of the dismissal, but no one is in the mood to argue further. The men get up and start to shuffle out.
“Commander, would you remain for a moment, please?”
Vimes frowns with suspicion, but stands still behind his vacated chair while the great and the good file out past him. He looks ready for round two and as soon as they are alone, he turns to the Patrician and immediately starts talking.
“Look, I’m sorry. But they were talking bollocks. Downey has been up my backside for weeks about that assassin I arrested, and Boggis needs to bloody remember who does the real policing in this city – ”
He stops then, because Vetinari has swiftly covered the distance between them and has a very distinctive look on his face.
“Ah…?” Vimes gets out, and then Vetinari is pressing him back against the table, one hand in his hair and the other gripping his hip to hold him in place as he kisses him.
Vetinari’s kisses are usually fairly reserved, to start with – though admittedly, they don’t tend to remain that way for very long. This one, however, starts out as anything but; it seems watching Vimes hold his own against the guild leaders has sparked something in him and so he kisses Vimes like he might be able to consume him.
Vetinari makes a mental note to examine that more closely, later.
Vimes is evidently surprised at the turn of events, but he always did adapt quickly. He takes a second to gather himself and then kisses back, leaning into the contact, his fingers clutching Vetinari’s hips tightly and pulling him closer.
They stand like that for a long moment, until Vetinari pulls back. They are in a public space, after all, and it wouldn’t do to get caught. That may give the guild leaders enough ammunition to come at Vimes in a way he couldn’t defend himself against. If that were to come to pass, Vetinari would be forced to intercede; Vimes’ pride be damned.
He is musing on this while Vimes blinks and gathers himself.
The man gives an embarrassed cough, his cheeks flushing. “Right. I mean, that was…unexpected. I thought I was going to get a bollocking.” He hesitates. “I mean, it was good, though. I’m certainly not complaining.” A small frown crosses his brow. “I thought you had a rule, no funny business at work?”
Vetinari raises an eyebrow. “What good is being a tyrant if you cannot break your own rules?”
Vimes just glares at him, and Vetinari sighs. “You handled yourself very well during that, Vimes. It merely spurred me to demonstrate my…appreciation…of you.”
The commander narrows his eyes. “I nearly launched Downey out of the bloody window.”
Vetinari smiles. “I am aware. And yet, you did not.” He feels instinctively that if he tells Vimes he is proud of him – not just today, but always - he will risk defenestration himself, and so he does not share that particular feeling.
Vimes grunts, but still looks suspicious. “Alright.” He looks vaguely around the empty room. “Don’t envy you dealing with this bunch every day.”
Vetinari puts his head to one side. “Some days they are easier to deal with than others, Commander.” When you are beside me, he does not say, and files that thought away for later consideration, too.
For now, however, Vetinari redirects the talk back to matters of state until Vimes is officially off the clock, at which point there is much less talking altogether.

Class Feature Friday: Dimension of Time Anchor (Precog Anchor)

(art by ryky on DeviantArt)
We’re back with another precog anchor, and while last time we covered those that learned from beings that manipulate time and fate itself, now we’re looking at those that are empowered by time itself.
The Dimension of Time is an enigma. Very few beings even understand that it is a plane at all, and fewer still have ever come close to visiting. Non-natives that have actually visited, let alone actually use the power of the plane to affect the timestream at best number in the double digits, and that’s highballing it.
Heck, the Dimension of Time probably predates The Great Beyond, given that a time before the cosmology formed exists, making it a multiversal constant, like a law of physics that transcends even the borders between realities where fundamental laws may vary. Such planes may interpret time in different ways, but never do they fully get rid of it.
In any case, today, we are looking at precogs that draw their power directly from it. They might have had a chance encounter with a siktempora, hound of Tindalos or even a/the time dimensional, or due to some fated circumstance they might have been among the lucky few to even glimpse the dimension itself.
Either way, they were changed by the experience, able to see the threads of fate and possibility and tug them as other precogs do. However, these mystics are more capable of altering their personal flow of time as well as that of nearby objects than others, as we will see below.
Like all anchors, the Dimension of Time grants an additional way to use their power of paradox, in this case on perceiving incoming threats and dodging them, bolstering their reflexes.
With a touch, these mystics can arrest the temporal forces around small objects, putting them into stasis. Food does not spoil, metal does not rust, and so on, preventing the effects of time from being an issue for important items.
Finally, their power allows them to travel unfettered, briefly entering a state where they can move freely along perfect moments in time. Effectively, they become immune to difficult terrain, can move much further, and are incredibly resistant to effects which would hinder them. I imagine this visually looks like they are teleporting about as they accelerate themselves to their intended destinations.
While not exactly flashy, being able to preserve items is a bit niche but surprisingly useful in the right situation. Their later ability to boost their speed and avoid hinderance more than makes up for the narrow focus of their lesser ability, however, letting them control the shape of the battle with their mobility. I personally recommend building for battlefield control, able to maneuver around as they please in short bursts while foes are left struggling.
A lot of precogs have their origins in witnessing beautiful and terrible things, but few can match these individuals in scope. After all, they witnessed, either directly or through powerful beings as proxy, the entirety of all events ever. Such a thing can’t help but change a person. It’s up to you as the player to decide how.
A survivor of a world consumed by a black hole, Fijina the ferran has long studied time itself in some vain hope of being able to reverse the events that consumed her home. When her efforts caused her to be exposed to raw chronal energies, she looks much older, but acts as one half her age, her determination all the more implacable now that she has glimpsed the power of time itself.
Always something of an eccentric, the planetary governor has made an effort to popularize the rodent-like symbiotes known as zernivians as pets, to the point some wonder if it is interfering with his duties… that is until a year later, an entire ship of new colonists are suddenly attacked by the pets all at once, revealing them to all be infested by the mind-controlling parasitic dycepskian fungus. It was almost as if he knew this would happen all along.
Many test subjects died in the fateful Mobius Chamber Incident, but those who survived don’t talk much about it. However, they have all developed a keen magical awareness of time, as well as a shared vision of the “Empty Space” in the time stream’s future.

How Long Do Patio Enclosures Last?
So, you’re sitting there, probably sipping your coffee, staring at your backyard, and thinking, “How can I make this space more enjoyable year-round?” Well, patio enclosures might have crossed your mind. They’re like the middle ground between enjoying the great outdoors and not wanting to deal with bugs, rain, or those random gusts of wind. But if you’re considering making this addition, a fair question pops up—how long do patio enclosures actually last?
The Lifespan of Patio Enclosures: What’s Typical?
Here’s the thingpatio enclosures aren’t a one-size-fits-all deal. Their lifespan depends on the materials used, the local climate (hello, South Bend winters!), and how much care you’re willing to put in. Generally speaking, most patio enclosures last anywhere from 10 to 30 years. That’s a pretty broad range, right? Let’s break it down:
Aluminum Enclosures: These are popular because they’re lightweight yet sturdy. With proper maintenance, they can easily last 15 to 20 years.
Vinyl Enclosures: Resistant to rust and rot, vinyl enclosures can stretch their lifespan up to 30 years if maintained properly. They’re the low-maintenance friend we all wish we had.
Wood Enclosures: Wood is classic, but it’s a bit high-maintenance. With regular sealing and a watchful eye for pests, wood enclosures can last 10 to 15 years.
Glass Enclosures: If you’re going for a full-on sunroom or something akin to a greenhouse, glass enclosures can last upwards of 20 to 30 years, depending on the frame material and glass quality.
What Can Shorten Their Lifespan?
Ever noticed how some things just don’t seem to last as long as they should? Patio enclosures are no different. Here are a few culprits:
Weather Conditions: South Bend isn’t exactly known for mild winters. Snow, ice, and strong winds can wear down materials faster than a calm, sunny climate.
Poor Installation: Cutting corners during installation is like building a house on sand. It might look good for a while, but give it a few storms, and you’ll see the cracks—literally.
Lack of Maintenance: Out of sight, out of mind? Not so fast. Regular cleaning and checking for damages can add years to your enclosure’s life.
The Upside of Regular Maintenance
Think of maintenance like flossing. It’s annoying, easy to skip, but boy, does it make a difference. Regular maintenance doesn’t have to be a huge chore. Simple tasks like washing the windows, checking for rust or mildew, and tightening loose screws can extend your patio’s life by years.
When to Consider Replacing Your Enclosure
Knowing when to let go is tough—whether it’s an old T-shirt or your patio enclosure. Here are some signs that it might be time for a replacement:
Structural Damage: Cracks, rust, or warping are bad news. If you spot these, it’s time to think about replacement rather than repairs.
Persistent Leaks: Occasional water can be fixed, but if you’re placing buckets every time it rains, it’s a sign the enclosure has reached its limit.
Discoloration or Fading: If your once-pristine enclosure looks more like a relic, it might be time for an upgrade.
Can You Prolong the Life of Your Patio Enclosure?
Absolutely! Prevention is key. Think of it as an investment in your home’s comfort and aesthetic appeal. Using high-quality materials, sealing any gaps, and keeping an eye out for wear and tear can go a long way.
Why Invest in a Patio Enclosure?
Still on the fence about adding one? Let’s consider the perks:
Extended Living Space: It’s like adding another room to your house—perfect for family gatherings, lazy Sunday afternoons, or even as a workspace.
Increased Property Value: Real estate investors and homebuyers love additional living spaces. A well-maintained patio enclosure can bump up your home’s value.
Seasonal Enjoyment: With the right enclosure, you can enjoy the outdoors year-round—minus the mosquitoes and pollen.
Making the Right Choice for Your Home
Choosing the right patio enclosure comes down to how you plan to use it. Are you looking for a quiet reading nook or a lively space for family dinners? Your lifestyle should guide your choice in materials and design.
Getting Professional Help
While DIY enthusiasts might relish the challenge, sometimes it’s best to call in the pros. Screenmobile South Bend offers tailored solutions that fit your needs and budget, ensuring your patio enclosure not only looks great but lasts as long as possible.
Final Thoughts
A patio enclosure is more than just a home improvement—it's a gateway to enjoying your space in new, weather-proof ways. Whether you're looking to entertain, relax, or simply add value to your home, a patio enclosure can be a game-changer. And when you choose quality materials and maintain them properly, you’ll find your enclosure lasts well beyond the initial estimate.

Does Residential Metal Roofing Require Regular Maintenance?
A residential metal roofing system often comes to the forefront when considering home improvements. Many homeowners are drawn to metal roofs because of their durability and low maintenance needs. But you might be wondering: Does residential metal roofing require regular maintenance? The answer is yes, but it’s not as daunting as it sounds. Let’s delve into what maintenance looks like for metal roofing and why it’s essential for protecting your investment.
Understanding Residential Metal Roofing
Residential metal roofing has gained popularity for various reasons, including longevity, energy efficiency, and aesthetic appeal. Unlike traditional roofing materials, metal roofing can last 40-70 years when properly maintained. However, like any investment, it requires some care to maximize lifespan.
The Importance of Maintenance for Residential Metal Roofing
While metal roofs require less maintenance than other roofing materials, regular upkeep is still necessary. Routine maintenance helps identify potential issues early on, preventing minor problems from spiraling into costly repairs. Maintaining your metal roof ensures it remains an efficient barrier against the elements, providing peace of mind.
Surface-Level Maintenance Tasks
Most surface-level maintenance tasks for residential metal roofing are straightforward. Here are some key activities you should consider:
Regular Inspections: It’s a good idea to inspect your roof at least once or twice a year, ideally in the spring and fall. Look for any signs of wear, such as loose seams, rust, or scratches in the paint.
Clean the Roof Surface: Debris, like leaves, branches, and dirt, can accumulate on your roof. Use a soft broom or blower to gently remove this debris, ensuring water flows freely off your roof.
Check for Damage: During your inspections, pay close attention to flashings, gutters, and downspouts for any signs of damage. These areas are critical for directing water away from your home.
Address Rust and Corrosion Promptly: If you notice any rust spots, it’s important to treat them quickly. Use a wire brush to scrub the rust off, and apply a rust-inhibiting primer and paint to prevent further corrosion.
Ensure Proper Drainage: Ensure your gutters and downspouts are functioning correctly. Clogged gutters can cause water to pool on your roof, eventually causing leaks and structural damage.
Structural Maintenance Methods
In addition to surface-level tasks, some structural maintenance may be necessary to ensure the integrity of your residential metal roofing system:
Check the Roof Structure: Inspect the underlying structure for signs of sagging or warping. This can indicate larger issues with the roof’s framework that may require professional attention.
Sealant and Caulking: Sealants around seams and flashings may degrade over time. However, applying materials can help maintain a watertight seal over time.
Trim Overhanging Branches: If you have trees near your home, consider trimming any branches hanging over your roof. This helps prevent damage from falling limbs and reduces debris accumulation.
Professional Inspections: While you can perform basic maintenance yourself, consider hiring a professional to conduct a thorough inspection every few years. They can spot potential issues that may not be visible to the untrained eye.
Common Myths About Residential Metal Roofing Maintenance
There are several myths surrounding the maintenance of residential metal roofing. Let’s debunk a few:
Myth 1: Metal Roofs Don’t Require Any Maintenance
While metal roofs require less upkeep than other materials, they still need attention. Regular inspections and cleaning can extend their longevity.
Myth 2: All Metal Roofs Are the Same
Not all metal roofing systems are created equal. Some might have better coatings or finishes that require different maintenance approaches. Always refer to your manufacturer’s guidelines.
Myth 3: You Can Walk on Metal Roofing Safely
While some metal roofs can withstand foot traffic, it’s important to tread carefully. If you’re unsure, it’s best to consult a professional for maintenance tasks.
The Role of Climate in Metal Roofing Maintenance
Your local climate can significantly influence the maintenance needs of your residential metal roofing. For instance, areas with heavy rainfall may require more frequent inspections to check for rust and drainage issues. Conversely, regions with intense sunlight may lead to fading paint and thermal expansion, which can affect seams and fasteners.
Energy Efficiency and Metal Roofing
One major benefit of residential metal roofing is its energy efficiency. By reflecting sunlight, metal roofs can keep homes cooler during hot months, potentially lowering energy bills. Regular maintenance ensures that your roof continues to perform efficiently.
Cool coatings can further enhance this effect. Products like Sherwin-Williams Solar Reflective coatings can help mitigate the urban heat island effect, saving money on heating and cooling over time.

Does Residential Metal Roofing Attract Pests?
If you're considering a new roof for your home, you've likely heard about the many benefits of residential metal roofing. From its durability to energy efficiency, metal roofs are popular among homeowners. However, one question often arises: does residential metal roofing attract pests? In this article, we'll explore this topic, debunk some myths, and provide the information you need to make an informed choice for your home.
Understanding Residential Metal Roofing
Before diving into the pest-related concerns, let’s first address what residential metal roofing entails. Residential metal roofing systems come in various materials, including steel, aluminum, copper, and zinc. These roofing systems are designed to withstand the elements, providing long-lasting protection for your home. Unlike traditional asphalt shingles, which may deteriorate over time, metal roofs can last 50 years or more, making them a solid investment for homeowners looking to enhance their property's longevity.
Do Pests Like Metal Roofs?
Common Misconceptions About Pests and Metal Roofing
One of the common myths surrounding residential metal roofing is that it attracts pests. Many people assume that the shiny surface and smooth finish of metal roofs are inviting to insects and rodents. However, this belief is largely unfounded. Metal roofs do not provide a suitable habitat for pests and tend to deter many types of vermin.
Why Metal Roofing is Less Appealing to Pests
Metal roofs, particularly those that are properly installed and maintained, are less likely to attract pests for several reasons:
Smooth Surface: The smooth surface of metal roofing makes it difficult for many insects to gain a foothold. Unlike wooden shingles that might have crevices for bugs to hide, metal is solid and offers no such refuge.
Resistance to Rot and Decay: Metal, unlike wood, does not rot or decay. This makes it unattractive to pests like termites that thrive on organic materials. Therefore, metal roofing can be a safer choice if you're concerned about wood-destroying insects.
Heat Retention: Metal roofs often reflect sunlight and help keep your home cooler. However, high temperatures can deter pests that prefer cooler environments, making metal roofs less appealing.
Limited Food Source: Metal does not provide any food sources for pests. Insects and rodents are drawn to organic materials typically found in traditional roofing materials like wood or shingles.
Maintenance Tips for Your Metal Roof
Regular Inspections
While residential metal roofing is low-maintenance, it’s still important to perform regular inspections. Look for loose panels, signs of rust, or debris buildup. Keeping your roof clear of leaves and branches will improve its lifespan and reduce potential nesting spots for pests.
Clearing Debris
Debris accumulation, such as leaves and twigs, can retain moisture, and regularly clearing your roof and gutters will help maintain a clean, pest-free environment.
Professional Maintenance
Consider hiring a professional roofing contractor to perform routine maintenance checks. They can assess the condition of your roof and ensure that it’s in optimal shape, which can help prevent any pest-related issues.
The Benefits of Choosing Residential Metal Roofing
In addition to being less appealing to pests, residential metal roofing offers a variety of other advantages:
Longevity: As mentioned, metal roofs can last 50 years or more. This reduces the need for frequent replacements, saving you time and money in the long run.
Energy Efficiency: Metal roofs reflect sunlight, reducing cooling costs during the hot summer. This energy-efficient property can lead to significant savings on energy bills.
Fire Resistance: Metal roofing is non-combustible, making it a safer option in areas prone to wildfires.
Aesthetic Variety: Metal roofs come in a wide range of styles and colors, allowing you to enhance your home's curb appeal while enjoying the benefits of a durable roof.
Is Residential Metal Roofing Right for You?
When considering a new roof, residential metal roofing offers a durable, energy-efficient, and pest-resistant option. Concerns about pests drawing to metal roofs are largely a myth, making metal roofing a wise choice for many homeowners.

Durant Care/Training Comprehensive Guide
Warning: This is a LONG post. I am taking requests for Pokemon to create guides for. Check this document to see what I've done and what has been requested:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MbFTUIxn33-6GJEnGCISkWlcD1AU1BXwdbhABTgPC7g/edit?usp=sharing
Overview
Classification: Iron Ant Type: Bug/Steel Abilities: Swarm, Hustle, or Truant Egg Group: Bug Gender Ratio: 50% male, 50% female Size: 1'00" / 0.3 m Weight 72.8 lbs / 33.0 kg Native To: Rocky mountains, dry grasslands & savannas, deserts, caves. They create sprawling nests underground. Primarily in Unova, Kalos, and Galar.
3/10 - Would not recommend anyone keep a Durant other than for battle or in an academic/educational context.
Diet & Nutrition: Opportunistic Omnivore - Durant primarily consumes vegetation and fungi, but they will hunt or scavenge smaller Pokemon when necessary, especially if food sources are scarce. Their diet is heavily influenced by availability and their environment as they're capable of adapting to many foods.
Recommended Foods: Leafy Greens & Tough Vegetation - Durant have strong mandibles suited for breaking down fibrous plant material (e.g., Gogoat leaves, hardy root vegetables) Fungi - Some colonies have been seen cultivating fungi underground, a few even harvest fungi from Foongus and Paras. Berries - Durant can digest a variety of berries but tend to favor Rawst, Aspear, and Chesto berries. Protein Sources - While not primary hunters, they scavenge fallen pokemon and attack weaker bug-types like Wurmple or Cutiefly when an easy meal presents itself. In captivity, protein supplements work just as well. Minerals - Durant's steel typing means they require metals to maintain their exoskeleton. In the wild they ingest iron deposits. In captivity, iron supplements are required. Foods to Avoid: Sugary or Soft Foods - Durant's digestive system is adapted for tough, fibrous materials. Sugary foods can cause digestive issues and sluggishness. Processed Pokemon Food - There are few Pokemon food brands that cater to Durant. Many lack the mineral content and fiber Durant need, leading to weaker exoskeletons over time. Fatty Meats - While Durant can digest proteins, excessive fats may cause lethargy due to not being able to digest the extra fat. Pokemon with Natural Toxins - Wild Durant may occasionally consume carrion but they don't possess the immunities to toxins produced by Pokemon like Venipede or Salandit.
Grooming & Maintenance: Durant are generally low-maintenance Pokemon in terms of grooming as their exoskeleton naturally protects them from dirt and damage. However, regular upkeep is necessary to prevent rust and weathering. More upkeep is required for Durants kept alone since they usually groom each other.
Rust Prevention - If a Durant is frequently exposed to moisture, they may develop rust along their joints. A dry environment and iron-rich diet help, but if rust appears a gentle rub with a fine-bristle brush (or steel wool in severe cases) can remove it. In severe cases, casts or bandages may be required to cover weakened areas after rust is removed. Mandibles - Durant rely on their mandibles or defense and foraging. In captivity they should be provided with hard minerals to chew to maintain strength and sharpness. It's also recommended to occasionally brush their mandibles to remove debris. Molting - While adult Durant do not molt like most bug-types they do shed thin flakes over time, periodic dust baths are recommended to help remove flakes. Young Durant require additional help with molting if it is housed alone, the metal exoskeleton is difficult for them to remove on their own. Providing rough surfaces for them to rub against is usually enough, in severe cases do not attempt to remove shed on your own, bring the Durant to a bug-type specialist.
Daily Exercise Requirement: Durant are high-energy Pokemon that require constant physical activity to prevent destructive behaviors. In the wild they are always moving and sleep only around 5 hours each day. A sedentary Durant may become restless and aggressive, especially if housed alone.
Recommended Activities: Digging - Durant should have access to diggable material (e.g., compacted soil, sand, or synthetic burrowing pits). If housing doesn't allow digging, artificial tunnels should be provided. Weighted Training - Durant are incredibly strong for their size and benefit from their strength being tested. Providing large stones or other heavy objects to transport mimics natural behaviors and provides physical activity.
Mental Stimulation Needs: Unlike highly intelligent Pokemon, Durant do not require complex mental stimulation but benefit from task-based enrichment.
Recommended Activities: Foraging - Hiding food within puzzle boxes, buried caches, or inside snuffle mats encourages natural foraging behavior. Scent Trails - Durant use pheromones and scent tracking to navigate. Setting up scent trails using pheromone sprays or strong smelling food is a good way to encourages natural tracking behavior.
Common Health Concerns:
Rust/Metal Degradation - Caused by frequent exposure to moisture or improper diet lacking in necessary metals. Identified by discoloration, joint stiffness, brittle exoskeleton. Prevention/Treatment - Maintain a dry habitat with proper ventilation. Ensure a mineral-rich diet. Remove rust gently with fine-bristle brushes in early stages. Aggression & Stress Disorders - Caused by solitary housing, lack of activity, or disruption of territorial instincts. Identified by increased hostility, attacking trainers, obsessive patrolling behavior. Prevention/Treatment - Pair or group housing is recommended for Durant as they thrive in colonies. Provide patrol routes or enclosed pathways to mimic natural behavior. If solitary, double down on exercise and enrichment to prevent restlessness. Overgrown Mandibles - Caused by lack of wear from proper chewing materials. Identified by difficulty eating, misalignment of mandibles, reduced effectiveness in battle. Prevention/Treatment - Provide hard materials to chew. In severe cases a specialist should manually file down mandibles.
Best Living Conditions: Durant require spacious, well-ventilated enclosures that allow for digging, patrolling, and maintaining a structured environment.
Burrowing Access - Durant should have access to diggable material such as compacted soil, sand, or synthetic burrowing pits. If tunneling isn’t possible, artificial burrows and tunnel networks should be provided. Strict Containment – Due to their compulsive digging and escape tendencies, enclosures should have reinforced flooring or deep perimeter barriers to prevent tunneling out. Cool, Dry Environments – Durant thrive in low-humidity, cool-temperature habitats. Excessive heat or moisture can cause exoskeleton degradation, rust, and lethargy.
Temperament
Generally Behavior: Durant are highly active, defensive Pokemon that thrive in structured environments. They are naturally territorial and protective, often displaying high aggression toward intruders, even those significantly larger than them. While they lack the problem-solving of more intelligent Pokemon, they exhibit strong instinctual behaviors and rely heavily on routine. They function the best in colonies or structured teams, as their natural inclination is to work toward a collective goal. Solitary Durant require careful management to prevent stress-induced aggression or erratic behavior.
Drive Level: High
Instincts:
Territorial - Durants are naturally defensivev of their homes and will aggressively attack intruders. Offensive Drive - While not mindless attackers, they rarely back down from threats and will fight to incapacitation if it feels threatened enough. Foraging - They are task-driven and will continuously seek out food, minerals, and nesting materials. Tunneling - Durant are natural burrowers and will attempt to dig anywhere they can. Including into furniture and walls if no adequate tunneling place is provided. Escape Prone - Not due to intelligence, but because they dig constantly and can tunnel out of enclosures if not properly contained.
How They Interact with Other Pokémon: Durant prefer working in groups and function best with Pokemon that share their work ethic. While cooperative within a structured group, they do not bond emotionally like more intelligent Pokemon. Durant are also highly territorial and will not tolerate strangers in their space even if not directly provoked. Due to natural predator-prey relationships with Heatmor, Durant may react aggressively toward fire-types. Non-threatening burrowers (e.g., Sandshrew, Diglet, Drilbur) may be tolerated.
Companion Pokémon:
Compatible - Paras, Foongus, Sandshrew, Drilbur Caution Advised - Any pokemon that might be seen as food (small bug-types) like Wurmple or Cutiefly. Not Reccommended - Heatmor and fire-types, as Durant have an extreme aversion to intense heat and flames.
Trainer Compatibility:
Best Suited For - Experienced trainers who can provide constant activity and structured environments. Competitive battlers looking for high-durability Pokemon. Trainers with the space to keep multiple Durant together. Not Recommended For - Casual trainers who want low maintenance Pokemon. Small apartment living. Trainers with delicate or small Pokemon. Trainers with aggressive or fire-type Pokemon unless kept separate.
Training
Difficulty: Advanced - Durant are driven by instinct, making them stubborn and resistant to traditional training methods. While they can be conditioned to follow commands, their territorial nature and aggressive tendencies require strict structure, patience, and experienced handling.
Bonding: Durant do not bond emotionally like more intelligent Pokemon but form loyal relationships through routine.
Socialization: Should Be Limited - Durant are naturally territorial and do not react well to unfamiliar Pokemon or strangers. It is not usually worth it to try and socialize a Durant and often causes significant stress. If needed for work, Durant should be conditioned from a young age to tolerate specific individuals, but they will always be defensive towards strangers.
Common Behavioral Issues & Fixes:
Refusal to Back Down - Durant will fight until incapacitated if not properly conditioned. Trainers must actively train recall commands and reward highly for successful recall to prevent unnecessary injury. Escape Attempts - Provide designated digging zones and structured tunneling tasks to redirect the behavior. Bored Durant will chew or dig into anything.
Best Fit For:
Security & Guard Roles - Durant's territorial instincts and aggressive defense make them excellent for guarding. Entire colonies can be made to guard if all other needs are provided for. Mining & Excavation - Their burrowing skills and powerful mandibles make them ideal for clearing tunnels or transporting materials. Competitive Battling - Durant excel in defensive, endurance-based combat where their resistance help them to tire out and outlast opponents.

Rust Prevention Additives: A Simple Approach for Defending Metals
The problem of rusting is one which metal industries encounter at a global level. The diminishing of metal surfaces apply to a multitude of industries, and is a severe problem. Moisture, air, and chemicals rust metals, and create structures, vehicles, and machinery very weak. Adding corrosion prevention chemicals solves this issue by enhancing the effectiveness and durability of metal products.
What Are Rust Prevention Additives?
Rusting corrosion can be prevented using specialized additives which are custom tailored to combat corrosion on metals. Typically, these additives are added to oils, fuels, or paints used on metal surfaces. The elevator prevents oxygen and moisture from reaching the metal surface, subsequently decreasing the chances of rust forming.
How Do Rust Prevention Additives Work?
Because the corrosion prevention chemicals come with a specified chemical profile, most corrosion prevention additives work in definable ways. The more common mechanisms that these items work entail:
Barrier Formation: A lot of additives work on the principle of forming a thin protective layer on the surface of a metal. This protective layer works like a vest, and defends the metal from contracting moisture and oxygen corrosion elements.
Additives meant for preventing rust are commonly used across a wide number of industries, especially those that work with metals. These additives are included in products like anti-rust sprays, undercoating, and engine oils to protect car parts from rusting especially in areas with heavy salt on the roads. Building structures such as bridges and buildings and other tools and machinery in construction and manufacturing industries are at constant risk of getting corroded. These rust prevention additives come in handy.
Preventing A Chemical Reaction: Some lubricants that are designed for moisture retention are created to interrupt the electrochemical reaction harnessed to promote rust. These additives work by neutralizing the corrosive ions, which is vital in the formation of rust, or stopping the oxidation process altogether.
Additives designed to slow down the formation of rust work in a similar way to retain moisture by absorbing it, especially in humid regions where the possibility of rusting is high.
Preventing rust is very useful for almost any industry packed with equipment, such as cars and industrial equipment, as they serve as corrosion inhibitors. Additives that protect against rust are extremely useful for automotive mechanics or industrial operators as they completely slow down the oxidation process.
For marine purposes, additives are put into machine oil and paint to prevent rust in ships and offshore buildings. In agriculture, rust preventative additives in tools and tractors allow them to work in high humidity and wet conditions.
Advantages Of Rust Prevention Additives
The scope of using rust prevention additives is really broad. First, they help to eliminate the costs associated with rust and corrosion and the maintenance needed after, so the industries can bypass expensive repairs, down time, and replacements. These additives also increase the functionality of metal products, and on top of that, these additives do help improve the look of vehicles and machineries.
Conclusion
The impact of rust and corrosion can be prevented effectively with the help of rust prevention additives. These additives not only help in dealing with semi-durables but also with automobiles, marine ships and manufacturing machines. A rust prevention additive lessens the deterioration of metal objects, minimize maintenance, and enhances safety. The diversity and effectiveness of easing protection on metal parts means that these corrosion additives will continue to be a forefront solution when dealing with metal products in tough environments.

Trapped
Summary: You awaken in an unknown enviorment, being finally given the out you've been looking for, for years.
Warnings: major character death (Reader), Reader is s*icial/has immensly low self-esteem, description of saw trap in action, gore
1.3k
You wake up in a cold and damp place. The air smells of basement— like grandmas inevitably moldy storage room. It smells decrepit, familiar and a distinct stench of decay. Like the bird that crashed against your window— its corpse baking in the sun.
You quint your eyes to see, but the space is flooded with darkness, the only source of reliable sensations being the senses of your body. You feel beneath you, cold and patterned. Making the assumption the ground to be tiled— though the feel on your skin leads you to the conclusion that it’s been a while since someone cleaned up the floor.
The ground beneath you is littered with rubble and if the sound of you moving around is anything to go by, glass shards and copious amounts of dust.
You also feel something wet tingle your knee as feelings start slowly returning to your limbs— though the rest is still idly sleeping. The feel of a million ants crawling beneath your skin.
It feels as though you're a child again and make the mistake of playing god with an ant hill. One way or another one of those ants will find a spot of skin and take revenge.
That's what it feels like, just under the surface of your skin, pissing on the structure of your veins, as a harsh pain builds up in your legs.
Another strange new sensation is the heavy weight on your head. You are barely able to prop yourself up, before your head lolls back— due to the additional weight pushing down on your still fuzzy mind. Your mouth tastes of metal, a small prod with your tongue confirms, rusted metal at that.
It feels as though you're at the dentists, but instead of careful latex clad hands prodding in your mouth it’s cold, unforgiving steel— digging into the crevices of your mouth.
All these new sensations make you the ants underneath your skin speed up, as you grapple with your hand for anything— anything familiar, anything that’ll elude to where you are.
Your hands grasp the floor making contact with the shards— as they dig into your flesh, dust and dirt immediately contaminating the small cuts.
You want to hiss in pain but your throat is dry, it feels as contricting as the THING on your shoulders—
You push down on your shoulder, as it digs into sharp edges beneath you. Effectively propping yourself up.
Your hands dart up, getting a feel of the weight in your head. It feels rough and sandy in its texture. A clear form presenting itself on your head with edges and protruding screws— if your feeling is anything to go by.
You feel a wave of exhaustion hit you. There’s nothing you’d love more than to let the weight on your head crush you.
Back to it, your hands get a feel of your surroundings your leg beneath the calves has finally gained back it’s feeling. Though the victory is short lived as you realize that your left ankle is tied up. Your hands reach down and they follow the body of a a thick industrial chain to — what feels like —a pipe, on the wall.
You give the chain a few tugs but after the third hard tug, you give away.
A harsh peeping tone— that is all too familiar— penetrates your ears.
The sound of static from a television coming to mind immediately before it cuts off.
A bright light momentarily blind you— as you realize the shape of a tv in the corner of the tiled room, you inhabit. It illuminates your surroundings, you let your gaze drift over the floor and it’s all more clear but much the same as you felt with your hands.
Just that now you realize how truly putrid the floor is. It’s riddled in debris and what you assume once was pristine white ceramic— is now tinged in a yellowish hue.
Your name is being said, you try to snap your head up but the apparatus on your head prevents it. You slowly lift your head— being meet with the look of a truly ugly doll on the screen of the television.
Spirals painted upon is cracked white skin, bulging black eyes with red irises that gaze into your soul.
It speaks— it says something along the lines of “you’re a mess” — “wishing you weren’t born — don’t appreciate your life”
Words upon words that fly past you, words you’ve studied and carved into your own brains structure.
You’re a failure, you are not worthy of the life you live.
Your inability to be grateful and happy, makes you an inherently selfish individual.
Hearing it from someone else, a fucked up looking jack in the box no less— should’ve done something with you. Finally jacked you up to this, will to live everyone around you reflects.
It does nothing, it means nothing.
You don’t.
It doesn’t sting, it’s a truth— but not a harsh one. One you know and embrace.
“You’ve got a minute, the key is within the belly of a woman— that is with you in your cell. Make a choice live or die”
Sweet, sweet words, like music to your ears. Nails upon a blackboard, a fork scratching along a plate. It’s your chance.
The sound of a spring snapping loose, a metallic clank and then a an endless ticking noise behind you starts. Small prop candles around you spring to light with energy.
Providing a small amount of light that bounces of your surroundings. You still sit there, your ankle bound in place. The shape of a slumped over unconscious form now making itself present almost next to you. Your foot, drenched in blood— from what you gather must be the woman’s blood.
Crawling over you notice she herself seemed to be chained to the same pipe as you. Slowly you reach out— your hand hovering over her shoulder. Tik tik tik
Right behind your ear like a tapeworm, digging its way into your ear canal, your time is running thin. If you valued it.
The face of the woman is pale and littered in scars, vertical cuts to her dark skin almost like someone took an egg slicer and put her head in it.
Her cheeks are hollow and she almost looks like she’s sleeping. She’s beautiful— deserving of life. If you could give yours you would.
A red flash of something on her stomach catches your eye, her shirt being torn making it difficult not to notice.
A question mark. Then a glint, a fragment of something that reflects your visage back at you.
Next to her slumped over form lies a shard.
Someone else would’ve stared back at the face of someone fearful, scared for their live. All that greets you when you look upon your reflection are empty eyes, a face enclosed in a machinery, rusted to the last nook and cranny.
Undeserving.
You take the shard in hand and then tik tik— silence.
A sharp breath, then a mechanical turning sound, then a blinding pain shots through your jaw.
The apparatus is tearing at both your lower and upper jaw, hocked into the structure of your skull.
The upper part of the face trap, tears at your teeth, making a grinding sound as a bunch of them are torn off. Blood sprays from your face, onto the woman— as the lower part cracks open your lower jugular, like someone with severe anger issues would crack open a watermelon.
The pain is so immense you pass out, not having the time to register the way your face gets torn into an abyss of your exposed torn open throat.
A person in a decrepit, abandoned part of the Gideon meat plantation slumps over and falls upon another victim of the Jigsaw killer.
Splatters of blood decorate the yellowed tiles beneath them, some even painting the equally tiled ceiling.
More blood seeps in between the sullied ceramic tiles, mingling with that of the other player. They’ve both lost, one playing a losing game while the other lost to win.

For some reason I wanted to explore the possibility of a saw victim not even trying to escape but perhaps just biding their time, wanting to finally have an excuse to die.
I’m looking to try some normal x readers probably platonic, but we’ll see about that.

Have you done a this is my trying post? I had the shiniest wheels, now they're rusting reminds me of all the winding wheel posts. Pulled the car off the road to the lookout, could've followed my fears all the way down reminds me of all the jump in references from both. But I'm here in your doorway is a very Haylor line too. There's others but just off the top of my head.
I haven’t, I do think there is a lot of similarities in this song and some themes. I haven’t posted about it because I haven’t decided if Taylor is singing about herself or a the same muse on renegade. The way she described this song in Long Pond makes me think it’s in large part self-referential, in the same sitting with Jack she talked about my tears ricochet and mirrorball, there’s defiantly more to this song than it seems. One interpretation is Taylor is the person she feels is not living up to her expectations and struggling. Another is loving someone with mental health and addition issues which is preventing them living up to their potential and hard to love.

"Druin and the Remnants of Oblivion" - Chapter XXVIII
Once all were dismissed from the meeting, we scattered about town for our own last-minute needs and wants, taking heed to the last word of caution that Lucien had thrown out beforehand: “You should not leave town or wander about without at least one other person accompanying you.”He wasn’t ready to believe that Grey Robe’s death had brought a definite end to the mysterious disappearances, aware of the likelihood there was at least one more person involved in this vendetta.
Much to his apparent relief, every single one of us was present and accounted for at the appointed time that we were to regroup at the Suran Sanctuary, where we geared up and pulled on wool robes– which were the color of ash and given enchantments that protected us them from the heat of the lava and acidic water. To protect our faces from those threats--in addition to that of the ash and smoke-- we also wore full-face masks with goggles. The Speakers made sure everyone was properly geared up, checking each individual to make sure every bit of skin was covered, but most importantly that the masks were worn correctly, because ash--like sand-- has a way of getting into places you don’t want it to fill up during one of the frequent storms that rage through the zone of desolation and liquid rock. It could cause a whole mess of health problems if it clogged airways or accumulated in the eyes. And, for the hazardous fumes that were sure to be present in the air, we were given potions of poison resistance with a four-hour duration. I took all of these necessary measures very seriously, mindful of what had happened to my mother.
Once the heads of the group were satisfied and sure that we were ready, we set out on foot to Zalin-Sul on the road that bent to the northeast, following the signs to Vos. The change in the landscape and environment right after the first fork in the road was astonishingly sudden. Even without the assault from the local wildlife, the journey proved perilous and almost impossible. Moving against the wind-- which had the sound of a thousand angry dragons roaring in unison-- was like trying to walk through a vat of molasses for two hours. The fresh ash that bombarded us did what was expected– combined with the droplets of water, formed by condensation, it had become a horrid paste. It was as thick and sticky as lard grease, and though our gear had prevented us from suffering severe burns, it had reduced our visibility.
“I can’t see a damn thing!!” someone cried out--at least that’s what I could make it out to be, as their voice was all but completely drowned out by the hiss of toxic gas blasting through the narrow cracks in semi-solid rock.
“If it weren’t for our mission it would be insane to be out here!” I hollered out. “I’m sure this thing is getting ready to blow!! Let’s not linger too long after this crap is done!”
“Mzanchend!! ” LaChance hollered, pointing at the dwemer ruins ahead-- a faint silhouette against a rust-red sky, barely visible through the muck on lenses and the ash storm. It was all he had to say to let us know that we were very close to our destination.
“You’re sure about that??” Bellamont yelled back. “ It looks exactly like Galom Daeus to me!!”
“Yes! Trust me! I am sure!! ”
How that was possible I could not figure out for the life of me. What little of the paths that could be seen, there didn’t seem to be any distinction between one or the other, except for the next suspension bridge (the one who thought it a good idea to build a bridge out of flammable materials over a river of lava must’ve used the nargile a few too many times in their life). Since there were no road markings, we could’ve easily veered off course at any time between the signposts that pointed us in the correct direction, because half of the time we couldn’t even see anything past eight inches. But we were able to stay to together by securing ourselves to a single length of rope, and putting our trust in Lucien’s uncanny sense of direction. Sure enough, after what felt like an eternal battle against ash and wind, we heard Lucien call out at last: “Zalin-Sul! Just ahead!!”
I brought my head up instinctively, but by this time the glass pieces of my goggles were completely covered, so I could only follow the herd blindly the remaining distance.
Relief came when the door closed behind us. We could still hear the furious wind, but no longer did it bellow in our ears. It wasn’t safe for us to take our masks off, but our sight was restored after giving their lenses a few good rubs with dampened cloth. However, nothing could settle the anxious awareness of how much closer we were to what I believed at the time might be our last hour of life, as we stared at the dark tunnel ahead of us.
I felt a hand clutch my shoulder and looked over at the figure it belonged to. In a crowd of men and women that were indistinguishable in the ashland suits, I recognized him only because he was the taller of the only two people that had a crown symbol on the rim of their hood. “The time is now, Slayer,” he said.
“Yes, Speaker,” I replied, breathing in and out deep and long before I pulled Dragonfury out from where it was snug and safe between my back and duffel bag and tightly wrapped in cloth. I had been true to my intention of keeping it close and guarded like it was a newborn child. I hadn’t drawn it once, not even when tempted to test it on the Mythic Dawn for fear of it being destroyed before I used it to kill Druin, as it was our one and only hope of doing so. I removed the wrappings, marveling at its unsurpassed splendor.
“From this moment forward, until the mission is complete,” Lucien said, “we are yours to command… Champion of Cyrodiil.”
I won’t deny that, with a rising sense of privilege and responsibility not felt since I stood at the threshold of the Great Oblivion Gate, mortal fear lumped up in my chest and throat. “Speaker,” I said to Lucien, then looked over at the others--all had turned their attention to us, so I couldn’t say the three words that hung on the tip of my tongue. “Um… words cannot express how grateful we are… for all that you’ve done to prepare us for this moment… for the excellent leadership that brought us all to this point… and... so much more … I… I thank you.”
“And… I thank you ,” Lucien replied. The tone he used was an assuring indication that he knew what I was trying to say to him and the feeling was mutual.
“Alrighty then…” I sighed, cracking all the joints and squaring my shoulders. “...let’s do this thing.”

What are the considerations for a screened-in porch?
A screened-in porch is a fantastic addition to any home, blending the comfort of indoor living with the beauty of the outdoors. It creates a peaceful retreat where you can enjoy fresh air without dealing with pesky insects or unpredictable weather. However, choosing the right patio enclosure requires careful planning to ensure it suits your needs, complements your home’s aesthetic, and enhances its overall value.
Types of Patio Enclosures
Understanding the different patio enclosure options helps you make an informed decision. Here’s a breakdown of the most popular choices:
Screened-In Porches
These enclosures consist of a sturdy frame—typically made of wood or metal—with mesh screens that allow fresh air in while keeping bugs out.
Benefits:
Enhanced ventilation
Protection from insects
Cost-effective solution
Considerations:
Limited protection against rain and cold weather
Requires regular maintenance to prevent wear and tear
For homeowners seeking a seamless blend of indoor comfort and outdoor exposure, screen enclosures offer an ideal solution. Explore custom screen enclosures here.
Glass Enclosures (Sunrooms)
These structures are enclosed with glass panels, allowing for plenty of natural light while protecting against the elements.
Benefits:
Usable year-round
Unobstructed outdoor views
Increases home value
Considerations:
Higher installation costs
May require climate control systems
Local building permits might be needed
A well-designed sunroom not only extends your living space but also creates a bright and inviting environment for year-round enjoyment. Discover custom sunroom options here.
Vinyl Enclosures
Combining elements of both screen and glass enclosures, vinyl panels can be adjusted to control airflow and protection.
Benefits:
Adaptability to different weather conditions
More affordable than full glass enclosures
Easy maintenance
Considerations:
Less durable than glass
May discolor over time
Limited insulation properties
Aluminum Enclosures
These enclosures feature an aluminum frame with options for screen or glass panels, known for their durability.
Benefits:
Low maintenance
Rust and corrosion-resistant
Sturdy yet lightweight
Considerations:
Can conduct heat, affecting interior comfort
May not be as visually appealing as wood
Limited customization options
Key Considerations When Choosing a Patio Enclosure
To ensure your screened-in porch or enclosure meets your expectations, consider the following factors:
Purpose and Usage
Define how you plan to use the space—whether for relaxing, dining, or as a children’s play area. Your intended purpose will help determine the best enclosure type.
Climate
Your local weather conditions play a crucial role in selecting the right enclosure. Glass enclosures work well in colder climates, while screened porches are ideal for warm regions.
Budget
Establish a budget that covers materials, installation, and ongoing maintenance. Screened-in porches are often the most affordable option, while glass enclosures may require additional investment.
Aesthetic Appeal
Your patio enclosure should complement your home’s architectural style. Whether you prefer a rustic wooden frame or a sleek aluminum finish, choosing the right design enhances curb appeal.
Material Selection
Different materials offer varying levels of durability and maintenance requirements. Wood provides a classic look but requires upkeep, while aluminum offers longevity with minimal maintenance.
Local Regulations
Before installation, check local building codes and homeowner association rules to ensure compliance. Some enclosures, like three-season rooms, may require permits. Learn more about three-season room solutions here.
Benefits of a Patio Enclosure
Investing in a patio enclosure comes with numerous advantages:
Extended Living Space – Adds usable square footage to your home for various activities.
Increased Property Value – A well-designed enclosure enhances your home’s market appeal.
Protection from Elements – Shields you from UV rays, insects, and unpredictable weather.
Energy Efficiency – Certain enclosures improve insulation, reducing energy costs.
Conclusion
A screened-in porch or patio enclosure can transform your outdoor space into a versatile and comfortable extension of your home. By evaluating factors like climate, budget, and usage, you can choose the best enclosure to suit your needs.
