कर्नाटक में आरक्षण को लेकर कांग्रेस सरकार और भारतीय जनता पार्टी एक दूसरे के आमने-सामने आ गए हैं. दरअसल, कर्नाटक में जातिगत जनगणना आयोग ने राज्य में पिछड़े वर्गों (OBC) के लिए शिक्षा और नौकरियों में आरक्षण को मौजूदा 32 फीसदी से बढ़ाकर 51 फीसदी करने की सिफारिश की है. अगर कांग्रेस सरकार की यह सिफारिश लागू होती है, तो कर्नाटक में कुल आरक्षण बढ़कर 85 फीसदी हो जाएगा. इस 85 फीसदी में आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर वर्गों (EWS) के लिए 10 फीसदी, अनुसूचित जाति और अनुसूचित जनजाति के लिए 24 प्रतिशत शामिल है.

Ergo Proxy Opening: In search for the artwork's source

Ergo Proxy's Opening is a fascinating piece of artwork characterized by it's kaleidoscopic mix of scenery, images from the series and subtle references to pieces of art and literature. The whole design reminds me a bit of the style of Kyle Cooper in intro sequences like Se7en . Some are very clear while others are quite cryptic and frankly unreadable. This post will summarize a few of those references and their sources:

Holy Images

First we have the apparition of some glass panels and a statue in a column, and the image of some industrial complex. The statue have a chalice and appears to be a young man, and an eagle at his feet. Those are the attributes of Saint John the Younger. With that in mind, the search was easier... and after almost 14 hours of reading and searching, I found two of the three artworks.

Both the statue and the stained glass comes from the The Cathédrale Saints-Michel-et-Gudule at Brussels.

Stained Glass, probably made by Jean-Baptiste Capronnier (c. 1870):

Another decorated window appears, this time with a more modern artwork. The decorated window was designed by Alfons Mucha, c. 1930, for the reconstruction work for St. Vitas Cathedral in Prague.

The Power of Seven and the Lapis Philosoficus

The occasional image of complex astrological or alchemical heptagrams flashes many times during the opening, being this one the most clear snap I could get. The text in the center of it reads "Ma Te Ri A Pri Ma *" that confirms the alchemical nature of the illustration.

After many attempts to find the source of the illustration i had to dive into my older alchemy notes. Suddenly I remember the works of a notorious alchemist obsessed with number seven, none other than Sir Isaac Newton. And Eureka!

the image comes from a set of notes on the processes behind the achievement of the philosopher's stone, titled "Lapis Philosophicus cum suis rotis elementaribus" and dated to c. 1690

Landnámabók

Some of the decorations that appears on the opening comes directly from the icelandic text of settlers, a medieval Icelandic written work which describes in considerable detail the settlement (landnám) of Iceland by the Norse in the 9th and 10th centuries CE.

La Glorification de l'Art

This one was relatively easy to find. It is a quite common allegorical representation.

The building housing the Royal Museum of Ancient Art in Brussels is a masterpiece designed by Alphonse Balat, the Court's favorite architect, the sculpture flanking the main entrance is the work of Paul de Vigne, and was made around 1885. La Glorification de l'Art depicts Art as a winged youth, accompanied by Glory and Fame. It also appears on the opening. Art, represented by a winged man, receives from the hand of Glory a palm and a crown; while the Fame, with trumpet and bumper, publishes her exploits.

Michelangelo Buonarroti was an exceptionally good artist, and a passionate poet too, even when he preferred to keep most of his literary production quite obscure. One of his works for the Sagrestía Nuova at the Medici Chapel in Florence was a representation of the Night, placed over the tomb of Giuliano di Lorenzo de' Medici, Duke of Nemours. Night was singularly praised by his contemporaries, especially Giovanni Strozzi, who dedicated an epigram on 1544:

Donov Mayer's Collective Entourage are embodied by the four sculptures from the allegorical monument (Sagrestía Nuova) of Michellangelo. A pair of the statues were located over the sarcophagus of Giuliano de' Medici, (Day and the Night) and Lorenzo de' Medici (Dusk (or Twilight) and the Dawn) respectively. On the series, each have the name of one prominent occidental philosopher:

My NEET 2024 marks are 682/720

First of all, congratulations on your score!

Second of all, by the decision of the Supreme Court today (11th June 2024, Tue), there is no chance of re-neet before AIQ counselling at least. The states, I think, are at capacity to start state counselling when they want to. Assam, Nagaland and Goa have already posted their notices and asked for submission of some documents to participate in state counselling.

Third of all, I advise you to think about taking a drop for NEET 2025 since the exam conduction as well as the cutoffs are getting out of hand (even without this year's alleged paper leak). If you have any category or income certificates like OBC, EWS, SC, ST or any advantage in state counselling - try it out. Maybe confer with your parents and teachers and come to a guaranteed decision in a few weeks about taking a drop year if you haven't already.

-> aw, I'm sorry anon... Consider this a learning experience. From now on, whenever you're writing mocks, make a habit of measuring time in one of the two ways:

an analog clock on the wall somewhere in the room preferably far from where you're seated

measure time in terms of questions and train your body to perceive it like that so that you have an idea

Alright Nivi, these are my predictions from first glance. Will start at Sweet 16!

Sweet 16:

UCLA v Baylor (side note: Baylor v Ole Miss in the second round should be a good and close one, but I think Baylor edge them out).

Florida St v NC State (Yeah that's right, i'm going with Florida St upsetting LSU in the second round. Admittedly, I made that pick with my heart more than head but I also wanna advance my Latson and Timpson agenda on the national stage even if I have them losing to NC state here).

South Carolina v Alabama (Alabama v Maryland should be another fun one but I think Alabama just edges them out)

West Virgina v Duke (honestly this bottom part of Birmingham 2 was difficult for me to pick, like there could be two totally different in this Sweet 16 matchup instead but imma go with this for now and I'm gonna go WV here cause I think it'll be close and I know Duke struggles at the line so that might be their downfall)

Texas v Tennessee (I know this might be blasphemous of me as a UConn fan, but I really like the Lady Vols this season and while they've been disappointing in the final stretch of their conference play, I still think they can make a run, so I'm going with my heart here hahah)

Notre Dame v TCU (Would like both teams to lose here if possible lol but alas I have to pick one and ultimately my love for Sonia made me go with ND)

USC v Kentucky (I'm actually not certain if Kentucky get past K-State but I gave Kentucky the home court advantage, and then I think USC's a little too tall of a task, but if Clara Strack can turn it up, then this could be closer than expected)

It can’t just be PSA. SC doesn’t have three #1 recruits but dawn has an entire bench that can be high scorers. Azzi is gonna have to play with that same mentality she had playing St. John’s. The Mitchell family are devout Catholics in name only. The type of people who primarily attend church on major holidays and when it was any run-of-the-mill Sunday Mass, they attended for social reasons. Keep up with town gossip, trade popovers, and sip on sweet tea down in the church basement. As an adult, Iris only goes for Midnight Mass. Lapsed Catholic vibe.

But it was a boy at church that Iris fell in love with when she was 15. Sitting around in the pews during one of their Confirmation classes, each whispered joke Mason Goodwin told about Monsignor Martinez was met with nervous giggles and flushed cheeks from Iris.

They didn't start dating until they were 17 and he was her first, and still only, boyfriend. The relationship lasted for 8 years. They didn't talk about things like marriage or kids or a very defined future until that future snuck up on them. Mason's degree took him west, and he ultimately decided for the both of them that she wouldn't come with. Devastated, Iris returned to Willow's Edge.

Since her return, and nursing a broken heart, Iris took a job at Sunrise Diner. She was one of the very few people willing to wake up at the crack of dawn for the early breakfast shift, after all. Finishing up her Master's, and trying not to still think about Mason, Iris found a lot of comfort in her friendships -- and that included the one with June.

They weren't super close before Iris left for college, but they'd grown increasingly fond of each other as the months passed. June's friendship was one of the things that helped pull Iris out of her breakup blues. In turn, a kind, sweet-tongued comfort when Iris was sad and then a fun-seeking partner on the weekends when Iris needed a distraction. She was a good friend to Iris.

Which made some things difficult... Iris is bad at secrets. She loves to learn them, of course, but she isn't so good at keeping them. She doesn't run her mouth around town, but it's almost always certain that if one friend tells her something semi-secret then Iris is passing that info on to one other friend. She can't help it.
