I don’t have access to the latest DWM issue, but I saw this screenshot floating around. I suppose this confirms they’ll continue to expand upon continuing into s15/s2, which, honestly, I was worried they’d quietly shelve it after Ncuti’s first season.

Ahhhhhhhhh this genuinely made my heart sing!! This is so lovely - and also CORRECT SKSKSKS like he's right!! It's SUCH a gift!! There is so much to explore there, so much to dig into, and I'm really really delighted to see that he's going to explore it and expand it further. It's probably one of the things that I'm most excited for, for s14 and s15.

I am super intrigued into what he's going to dig into, though! I mean, so far, we know he's definitely looking at the adoption angle - Ruby, if nothing else, is a very clear parallel here. She's the 'I was found abandoned and alone and found a family who cared for me' to the Doctor's 'I was found abandoned and alone and then exploited horrifically' SKSKSK so it's a really awesome comparison. And there's also the like...I wanna say biological aspect of it all? Like what does it mean that the Doctor is from another universe and potentially has different biology than they realised? (Like, infinite regenerations? HELLO?? We really need an episode about the Doctor being used as an infinite battery like PLEASE). But then you've also got Tecteun and the Division, and the Fugitive Doctor, which is just SUCH a rich bed for a narrative, right? Like someone asked me not that long ago if I could write a Doctor Who episode about any pre-existing villain/monster, what I would pick, and my answer is - well, actually I have two answers now haha, but my first answer and my answer at the time was the Division, hands down. There's so much left to explore there, and it's just SO cool and digs right into the themes that I'm obsessed with. The Division expands canon in a way that is incredibly fascinating, and I really hope that RTD explores that side of things just as much as the timeless child stuff.

Also, I mean, from a narrative standpoint...it makes a lot of sense to dig into it. It would actually be really weird and disjointed if they didn't. I mean, the Doctor has just discovered something about themself that has COMPLETELY challenged their sense of identity...to ignore it all would be to just pretend the last three seasons never happened, whiiiiiiiich would suck a lot, but it was definitely something I was worried about for various reasons. So yeah!! This is really really awesome. I think this one screenshot has actually done more to get me excited about s14 and 15 than like, all the promotion put together HAHAHAHA

EPISODE 17 BABBYYYY

okay so sadly, as some of you know, my reactions to the owl house plot lines have been completely new to me BUT, a few days ago, I was distraught because I had seen a spoiler

BUT THIS EPISODE LITERALLY IS THAT REVEAL

So whilst I am still VERY mad that I got a spoiler and I was barely away from it, I am glad it wasn't line a finale s3 spoiler and so everything from now on is still surprising and will be a genuine reaction

BUT KING BEING A TITAN HUH!!! AIN'T THAT COOL!!! He is just this little guy, how is this little guy meant to be one of the big bad titan guys

The start of the episode got me in the feels i'll be honest, Eda being so respective of Luz and letting Luz tell them when she is ready, and then Eda's crying saying "They are just kids!" about Luz and King MADE ME ALMOST SOB

I feel horrendous for king HE THOUGHT HE FINALLY FOUND HIS FAMILY BUT THEY ALL HATE HIM AND NOW HE HAS TO LIVE KNOWING HE IS THE LAST ONE!!!

BUT, positive side of this, they now have like, a lot of titan's blood on hand

Was rewatching highlights of C3 ep42, the one right after the Chetney werewolf fight, and the moment when Laudna takes Fearne aside to ask her to teach her to use fire magic really stuck out to me.

First of all, there’s got to be that moment where Fearne thinks Laudna is going to confront her about the coin toss. We know from four sided dive and from what she literally says to Laudna in that conversation that Fearne feeling super guilty about it.

And then Laudna goes, like, hey I have magic but your magic is really cool and will you teach me?

And Fearne goes ‘oh, I would absolutely love to help with that,’ and she follows it up with a mountain of compliments: what a good idea. you’re going to be so good at it. It’ll totally work with your aesthetic. I’m excited about this

And then she takes a breath and she looks down and she goes ‘how does it feel to be alive again?’

Like it’s the only thing on her mind. She can’t stop thining about it. It throws Laudna for a loop and Fearne says oh I was trying to just slip it in there. And that’s just... what? Like, oh you like my magic? oh, yes I’d love to teach you fire magic. you’re gonna be awesome at it. what a good idea. It’ll fit right in with your aesthetic HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE ALIVE AGAIN.

And to me it fits with Fearne’s impulsive nature to not be able to stop herself from bringing it up. Not when she’s feeling so guilty. 

Laudna responds ‘it feels incredible. I’m still grappling with the lengths you all went to to get me back. I’m still not sure if i’m free of Delilah. I’m not easily afraid but I’m still afraid of myself.’ 

Fearne responds ‘I understand the feeling.’ And i like to think this is Fearne feeling if not fear exactly then hesitation about giving into her impulses from this point forward. Because for the next few episodes, Fearne isn’t really stealing that much? like it used to be just all the time. And maybe Ashley is just forgetting because, you know, moon aliens and Ludinus Da’leth and airport casino, but... I like to see it as Fearne realizing that her impulsivity can do real harm. She’s stepped on her proverbial rake, to call back to Orym and Dorian’s conversation from episode one.

And the next thing she says (at least in the marisharaygun highlight video i was watching) is ‘I feel pretty terrible that I flipped a coin for your lives. I’m sorry. I didn’t want to make the decision myself and then it felt so flippant and terrible.’

That backs it up, in my opinion. She thought she was being flippant. She saw that it caused real harm. She’s being less flippant now.

And then laudna goes, ‘I support the decision.’

This is the line in the marisharaygun video that made me start writing this because oh my god ahhhhhhhhh.

I should preface that there’s obviously the theory that Fearne didn’t flip at all. She never showed the coin to anybody, and then she tried to keep it, which could be evidence that Fearne chose Orym, that Orym is, in her own words, her best friend, that she’d never let him die. I don’t know if I believe that, but my theory about laudna’s words here works either way. 

I don’t believe Laudna was talking about the coin flip, or at least, not entirely. I think she was talking about saving Orym. It was Fearne who cast the Revivify, after all. Laudna is saying here, not only ‘I support your not choosing, leaving it up to fate,’ but also saying, ‘it is right that Orym got to live.’

And it’s just more kindling on the pile of Laudna doesn’t see her life as worth as much as the people around her. 

And I think Fearne sees that too. because the next thing that happens, when Fearne teaches Laudna to cast Fireball, Fearne’s immediate reaciton to Laudna asking where she should aim is ‘AIM AT ME.’

Sure, she’s a circle of wildfire druid with a fire elemental spirit monkey, sure, she probably didn’t think Laudna would be able to conjure much fire on her first try. But also, I think there’s some part of Fearne that feels like laudna should get the chance to be angry at her; to punish her. To take something out at her for making the choice---or not choosing, for that matter. 

And of course laudna doesn’t want to hurt her. That isn’t Laudna’s way. 

But anyway, that scene made me go fucking apeshit and i don’t know if any of this is coherent. anyway enjoy i guess

Midnight (2021) Rewatch Live Blogging

I watched this in October 2021 after watching Squid Game and wanting more Wi Ha Joon and thought it was good enough but didn’t stick with me. However, I’m really craving thriller/non-supernatural horror shows/movies with little to no romance right now (very rare for me bc I rarely research for thriller/horror and am always into romance) and the November 2022 What We’re Watching episode for Certified Noonas mentioned it and I was like oh! I should rewatch. Maybe I’ll like it more this time.

yeah, I remember this beginning. It also kinda reminds me of Strangers From Hell when Moonjo killed the journalist in the car and then called the cops pretending to have stumbled upon the dead body and also made a show of being very affected.

I don’t remember Choi So Jung much, does she die too? Actually something’s unearthing in my memory, I think she gets caught by him and the brother chases down the killer guy while searching for her. I’m kinda remembering the brother hitting him with a chair across the back of the head or something

omg the terrible female boss is the same actress as Jongwoo’s girlfriend’s terrible boss in Strangers From Hell lol is she typecast?

Tech: lights and the little toy playing cymbals whenever there’s lights sound around the house

it’s cool when all the lights are going off and on around the house and we can’t hear anything for so long as Kyung Mi tries to find what’s happening until we see the killer has turned on some sort of alarm so that the lights can’t properly track sound

not her putting her head against the door like girl?

she’s texting the man which is fine to call for backup but why not the cops? Edit: Is it cuz she can’t talk when she called 911? Is there no service where you don’t have to speak?

there’s some stupidity of the characters like any thriller/horror of course

man the scene of Kyung Mi asking the public for help but everybody being afraid bc of her knife + erratic behaviour + probably her not speaking, and then the fucker stopping that man from calling the cops with ‘she’s my sister’ is so ahhhhhhhhh!!!! D: every time

oh these stupid stupid cops - literally forcibly bringing her to him with no proof that he actually is her sister or that he has authority over her or any concern that literally handing her to him like an object might not be the best idea even if he was her guardian/caretaker whatever considering she’s so against it. not to mention they both have blood on them

the part of him literally looming over her in this crowd and with the theat of death is insane. it’s in crowded public place and yet. reminds me of why I partly love the Strangers From Home restaurant scene - only Jongwoo and Moonjo really know what’s happening and what Moonjo’s capable of even though there are so many people around them who have a different idea of what’s going on

oh lol the memory wasn’t of the brother hitting the killer on the back of the head but the other way around. dumbassery, just catching up while with his back to the killer who’s supposed to be knocked out

I did remember this part quite clearly of her stabbing herself to make it seem like he did it, though I didn’t remember the cops actually shooting the killer to death oof

This was good but like most thriller/horror shows like this, suffered from character dumbassery or frustrations sometimes but generally was good. I liked it though, esp since the main character and her mom were deaf/HoH and they had access to some technology to help their day-to-day life but also showed the shortcomings of society, especially of the police force when it came to communicating. 

I liked the use of sound and how we also sometimes couldn’t hear things that the main character wouldn’t hear. I also enjoyed finding parallels between Strangers From Hell and Midnight.

OK I had to go back and rewatch the flashback. HINT THIS IS PARTLY WHY I HATE FLASHBACKS BC IT MAKES THE TIMELINE V CONFUSING FOR ME! it's unclear to me how/when this kid got here? Like after they arrived at the apartment complex and before they came in? Was he tasked with getting the horses? I'd love if someone could clear this up for me bc i can't figure out at what point in the arrival to the apartment complex this kid got waylaid by negan.

I'd like to know how negan and this woman met and trusted each other and why they're there but not enough to see it. Tbh I'm fine with him just explaining it in 2 sentences. Wait maybe did the kid somehow escape the complex or something during the attack? Idk what's going on ugh

Why aren't they just storming the complex and killing everyone? They can just find their supplies when they search? I guess this is a lazy way to make sure team family doesn't get found and killed before they get the weapons or something idk. I find it kind of funny that negan is so affected by the pseudo defenestration bc I'm like 99% sure he did the exact same thing w the saviors lol. And even if he didn't he did some pretty fucked up shit without any issue. Altho I guess 6 years gives him a bit of perspective or something. How does she know it better? Was she one of them? Negan was one of them too I guess? But how did THEY escape before the attack? Ugh so annoying.

All in all. Pretty good episode! I liked it! I do wish that it all could have been contained in 1 episode but tbh idk how that could have happened. I feel like none of the flashbacks were necessary like we knew the scouters were gonna be evil. That wasn't a good plot twist. Negan was a good plot twist but again it made the timeline v confusing for me.

I also think it's funny that Alexandria and hilltop and everyone is like "oh what do you know! There's actually another community like 2 hours away that we never knew about in the past 10 years!" But whatever plot holes don't rly matter to Kang. Which usually doesn't actually bother me bc I'm fine suspending disbelief in a zombie show.

Def one of the best episodes this season so far. Tbh not saying much BUT I rly did like it regardless of how shitty the season has been so far lol. Like it's a good episode in and of itself.

Hoping that the apartment complex joins hilltop and just become extras in the background besides negan. I'm assuming they do, and that Maggie's like I'm gonna kill negan and Aaron and Gabe are like you better not bc he's a helper now and there's gonna be even more drawn out repetitive stupid boring tension between him and Maggie. Maybe he'll choose to go to commonwealth to get away from her idk. That would be nice. Still hoping he sacrifices himself for hershel jr by the end of the season as the resolution to his redemption arc

Also thinking about it: magna, yumiko, and yumikos brother that I still can't remember his name have served their purpose. I'm fine if they're just like featured in the inevitable battle as like "remember these 2? Yeah they're still here slitting throats and whatnot" but past that I'm good to just never see them again. Magna found peace w her family and is pissed to be on the bottom rung of society once again. Yumiko is reunited w her brother that we never knew about and apparently they were v close and it was rly hard to be apart for the last 10 years or something idk. Whatever. Brother has saved zeke. They're all finished w their storylines. Sad to see more wlw go but that's tptb fault for Burying The Gays and not making anyone else of the 90 characters wlw in the meantime.

Tldr: good episode. Hoping new characters are contained solely within this mini plot. Didn't mind the lack of caryl at all. Tbh I'm more annoyed when Daryl is featured in an episode and Carol isn't, even if it's not caryl-y lol.

4.08 The Boiler Room Job

- Okay I know I skipped a bunch I’m sure I’ll come back to them later but I just. I fucking love this episode. It’s not like one of the pinnacles, most important episodes, I guess but it’s got so many good CHARACTERS, it’s got the fucking MAKO who I just love to hate, it’s got the Chocolate Whisperer with a gorgeous fucking wardrobe and Count Chocula being as ridiculous as can be, it’s got the part where Eliot’s suddenly in a completely different show than everybody else, I love it okay. Okay.

- Also okay I’m kinda drunk that might have something to do with why this post is like this SORRY not sorry.

- I am just realizing that I apparently didn’t save the gorgeous fic I read one time that was just scenes of Nate and Sophie getting it on in the background of this episode. Dammit I would have loved to have recc’d that.

- AHHHHH There’s an ad for Moonstruck Chocolates in the background they’re a local co. that’s cute :)

- Did I already say I fucking love that gold dress? I fucking love that gold dress.

- Anyway this is the episode I was thinking about when I made that post about how when Sophie has to do something really hard Nate’s just like “YUP She can do that!” It’s fucking adorable.

- ok i gotta acknowledge i don’t fucking understand sophie’s deal with nate throughout this whole season. like she was initially absolutely all or nothing here, how did she go from that to fwbs = fine???????

Los Angeles, 2020 - Los Feliz High School

Teenagers walk out of their classrooms heading towards their lockers and next periods. A teenage girl clearly avoiding all human beings walks amidst the crowds towards her locker opening it.

“Hey Underachiever”

The girl looks towards the friend standing beside her, smiling, “Hey disappointment, hey good-for-nothing”

“Hey you guys” Lia smirks leaning against the lockers.

“Okay,” Flynn says, “I know you don’t want me to ask you this but have you figured out whatcha gonna do today?”

“I’ll know in the moment” Julie shrugs off.

“Seriously girl?” Lia asks, “That really all you're giving us?”

“You know what Ms. Harrison said right… this is your last chance,” Flynn says

“I know” Julie replies looking at the other girls, “I was there.”

“See you at the rally,” The girls turn to find Carrie walking around handing out flyers.

“Ugh, what is she handing out?” Flynn asks.

“Umm desperation” Julie says.

“Ha”

Carrie walks up towards the trio, “Here you go” she says passing them all flyers, “My groups performing at the spirit rally tomorrow! I’m sure you guys have nothing better to do.”

“Huh, nothings way better than having to watching you Carrie.” Lia snarks

Flynn, quickly adds on, “OMG Carrie thanks.”

“Oh My God Malia, Flynn,” Carrie retorts, playing with her necklace, “Don’t bother coming!”

Carrie sashays away. Flynn crumples up the flyers, while Lia sticks her tongue out behind Carrie. Julie smiles watching Nick lean against a pole.

“Nick?” Flynn asks exasperated, “Still girl, you KNOW they’re gonna get married and have a bunch of unholy babies.”

“Yeah but Nick’s a sweetheart”

“Huh” Lia scoffs, “A sweetheart dating a demon. How ironic.”

“And you’d actually have to talk to him to know that… and remember…” Flynn says, “only one of them have to be a demon to have a demon baby… DEMON” Flynn yells towards Carrie.

“Yes girl!” Lia laughs high-fiving Flynn as the girls quickly look away from Carrie.

“Now there’s that smile,” Flynn says to Julie, “Let’s go prove everybody wrong.”

The girls leave the lockers and enter their music class, taking a seat next to each other

“Nice job Nick,” Ms Harrison tells him as he finishes up his guitar solo, “Almost as good as your game against Glendale. Okay we have one last performance, Julie?”

Julie slowly gets up from her seat and makes her way towards the grand piano.

“Yass Julie! Let’s go my Queen” Lia yells from her chair as Flynn smiles towards Julie giving her an encouraging look. Ms. Harrison spares Lia a look making her sulk down her chair smirking. Julie slowly sits down.

“Take your time” Ms. Harrison tells her.

Julie’s hands hover above the keys for a moment, and slowly stands up. Lia and Flynn share a look and stand up too, “I’m sorry…”

“Is this when we clap?” Carrie says.

Julie runs out and Liv and Flynn are right on her toes, Lia bumping into Carrie on her way out, “Watch it Carrie.”

Julie’s home - after school 

“Oh good you’re home,” Julie’s dad walks down the stairs towards Julie and Lia as they study together, “I was about to go watch your brother’s game, Hi Lia.”

“Hi Mr. Molina! How you doing?”

“I’ve had photoshoots all day. Didn’t even get a chance to eat, but I got a phone call today.”

Julie looks over at Lia across the table and back towards her dad, “Yeah I figured as much.”

“Yeah, well it was my realtor friend…”

“Oh!” Julie smiles towards Lia, and glances back at her dad, “That.”

“Yeah and she says if we’re serious about selling the house then she wants me to take some pictures, for the websites. Which means we have to do a lot of cleaning and get rid of some stuff… and maybe you can… tackle mum’s studio?”

Lia watches Julie’s face fall and catches eye contact with Mr. Molina, “You’re the expert… your brother and I wouldn’t even know where to begin. It’s okay honey if your not ready I can…”

“No,” Julie looks up at Lia then at her dad, “It’s alright. Maybe i’ll try tonight.”

“Yeah,” Mr. Molina gets up, “yeah awesome yeah, thank you and don’t forget the loft. You know those old instruments that were there when we moved in? They need a new home.” Mr. Molina gets up.

“Mum would like that.”

“Yeah she would… Oh god I’m gonna be late,” he starts reaching in his pockets trying to find his keys.

“Under the mail”

“Your a life saver”

“Bye Mr. Molina”

“Bye Lia”

Later at night, Julie and Lia walk down to the studio

“You’re sure you’re up for this, we can turn back right now,” Lia asks standing at the door with her hand on the handle.

“Yeah… I think I need to”

“Alright,” Lia slowly opens the doors, “After you ma’am.”

Julie walks over to the light switch, flipping it. She slowly makes her way towards the grand piano and sits down. Lia slowly puts a hand on her shoulder.

“I’m so sorry mum,” Julie starts, looking up, “That I haven’t been in here…”

After a moment of silence, Lia breaks the moment up, “C’mon Jules, lets go check the loft.”

Julie climbs to the top while Lia spots her from the bottom. “Hey look at this,” Julie makes her way back down, “It’s some sort of CD?”

“C’mon lets play it”

The girls take a seat, bopping along to the 90’s rock song.

Three boys literally fall out of the sky, like literally. Julie and Lia stand up and look at each other.

Groans and other pain-filled noises

The boys slowly start to get up, all out of breath but still looking fly. “Ohhh… woah! How did we get back here,” the cute middle one says.

Julie and Lia look at each other and back at the boys, “AHHHHHHHHHHA”

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH,” the boys all huddle together, “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”

Lia grabs Julie’s hand as everybody continues screaming and drags her towards the house . They run into Carlos and Mr. Molina in the driveway.

“Woah wait slow down guys,” Mr. Molina grabs onto Julie, “You’ve look like you’ve seen a ghost”

“We did!”

“Cool!” Carlos chimes.

“Not cool”

“C’MON!”

Julie runs away pulling Lia behind her, dragging her up the stairs and into her bedroom shutting the door all while screaming, “AHHHHHHHHH”

“Omg girl please stop screaming,” Lia begs, as Julie texts Flynn 9-1-1 on their group chat.

“C’mon Flynn, 9-1-1 means 9-1-1!” Julie cries.

“Okay lets all just take a breath, ghosts don’t exist right, those were just three boys who like broke into the studio, yeah they broke into a studio by… popping outta nowhere, Oh my god I’m going crazy I…” Lia rambles on as Mr. Molina knows on Julie’s bedroom door, poking his head into the room, “Hey”

“Ah… dad”

“Hey just wanted to make sure you’re okay”

“And that’s my cue to leave, I’ll be downstairs” Lia says, walking out.

“You don’t believe me do you dad?”

“Honey, of course I do I see your mum all the time”

“This isn’t like that”

“I know it’s different for all of us”

“Dad… you’re not listening to me… I SAW something out there,” Julie grabs onto her dad pointing towards the shed.

“Alright, okay okay,” He takes a seat, “I’m listening.”

“Tell me what you saw, it’s just you and me here”

“You sound just like Dr. Turner”

“Well maybe seeing Dr. Turner again isn’t such a bad idea”

“DAD,” Julie takes a pause, “Can we just drop it?”

‘Alright, dropped,” he slowly gets up sticking out his finger, “We good?”

“Yeah,” Julie smiles, crossing her finger with his “We’re good.”

As soon as he leaves Julie slowly creeps towards the window as Lia rushes back into the room. Lia peers over Julie's shoulder, “We’re going back aren’t we?”

“Duh”

“Okay fine,” Lia rolls her eyes, “We clearly need to watch more horror movies, but this time,” Lia looks towards the wall, “We go in prepared.”

Back at the garage

Julie walks in first with a cross in front of her as Lia slowly makes her way beside her, looking for, well three ghosts.

“Are you still here?” Julie questions as Lia glances around, “Whatever you are…”

They look around the room and when they don’t find anything, Julie drops her hands to her sides.

“See, nothing,” Lia says walking towards the middle of the room, “we clearly just imagined that whole thing”

“No, I know I’m not crazy!”

Woosh

“Well we’re all a little crazy”

Julie and Lia turn to face each other, “Ahhhh,” Julie sticks the cross in front of them.

“OH My…” The pink sweater ghost pleads, “Please stop screaming!”

Lia slowly puts her arms around Julie pulling her back “Well who are you?”

“YEAH,” Julie continues, “And what are you doing in my mum’s studio?”

“Your mum’s studio?” The boy with the very Zac Efron haircut asks, walking around the girls as they follow him with their eyes, “This is OUR studio,” he protests as he slides across the grand piano, “Okay trust me fine, yes the grand piano is new and, and… and… MY COUCH!” The boy jumps onto the leather couch sitting against the wall. Lia slowly pulls Julie closer to her.

“But that is definitely not my six string…” he looks around and slowly backs up back to his friends, “Can you give me just one second? Just give me a second. Thank you.”

Lia and Julie slowly separate as the boys huddle in front of them.

“What is going on?” He whispers, “How did they get their stuff in here so fast?”

“Maybe… just maybe,” the boy in the leather jacket inputs, “Maybe they are witches. There’s chairs floating in the ceiling.”

“Okay there is no such thing as witches,” The dude in the pink sweater retorts while the Zac Efron doppelgänger looks around.

“You sure? Because I used to think there was no such thing as ghosts!” “Huh that’s fair”

“Okay so,” Efron says, “We’re going with witch?”

“No we are not going with witch. They are not witches. Look they’re just scared.”

Lia and Julie look at each other very, very confused. The pink sweater guy slowly walks up to them, “Why are you in out studio!”

Julie goes to punch the dude with her cross but her hand goes through the boy. “Okay c’mon,” Lia slowly pulls Julie away, “How did you do that!”

“Okay clearly they don’t understand what’s going on,” the boy murmurs, “Okay look…” he starts, “We’re ghosts… alright we’re just three ghosts and we’re really happy to be home,” Lia gives Julie a side glance, “Soo… thank you for the flowers, they really brighten up the room.”

“We’re actually in a band called Sunset Curve,” the Efron boy starts.

“Tell your friends,” Leather boy smirks.

“Last night was supposed to be a really big night for us. It was gonna change our lives.”

“Umm I’m,” The sweater boy says, “I’m pretty sure it did.”

“This is freaking me out!” Julie pulls out her phone, Lia slowly pulls Julie closer to her, and pulls Julie’s cross back in front of them.

“Umm what is that,” Efron boy asks, pointing at Julie’s phone while the boys look kinda confused, “Uh what are you doin.”

“It’s her phone,” Lia says.

“Stop talking to them Lia,” Julie interrupts, “They aren’t real. There's no such thing as cute ghosts.”

“Oh so,” the leather boy steps up, smirking, “You think we’re cute?”

“Seriously dude!” Lia exclaims.

“Soo…” Pink sweater leans over, “Who you calling.”

“I’m googling sunset swerve.”

“SUNSET CURVE!” The boys say synchronized.

Lia rolls her eyes, as she looks over Julie’s shoulder.

“Whoa there is a sunset curve,” Julie looks from Lia to the boys, “You did die… but not last night… 25 years ago?”

Lia grabs onto Julie’s shoulder tighter as the boys protest, “25 years ago? No. No. No. That’s impossible,” Leather boy starts, “After we floated out of the ambulance all we did was go to that weird dark room where Alex,” He points to sweater dude, “Cried.”

“WELLL,” Alex squeals, “I don’t think I… I think we were all pretty upset… okay”

“But that was just for like an hour,” Efron boy starts, “We just showed up here.”

“Look,” Julie shows them her phone, “I’m just telling you what my phone says. See, you died in 1995,” Julie glances back at Lia, “When you were seventeen - it’s now 2020.”

“So we’re in the future?” Leather dude asks.

“Wait so,” Alex asks, “It has been 25 years? I have been CRYING for 25 years? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!”

“Well you’re a very emotional person,” Leather boy starts.

“I am not!” Alex protests.

“Thought you were afraid to come out here?” Carlos walks in, “Talking to your ghost friend? How does he look? Is he hideous?”

“Huh he can see you,” Alex says to leather boy.

“No” Lia interrupts, “No he can’t”

“What?”

“Ahh what do you want Carlos?” Julie asks.

“A normal sister for starters, dad’s calling you for dinner. He said you could stay too if you wanted to Malia. Stop being weird and come eat.”

“He couldn’t see you…” Julie starts, glancing back at Lia.

“I mean yeah that’s… ” Alex starts, “Usually how ghosts work?”

“Look…” Julie starts, dragging Lia behind her and towards the doors, “I’m very sorry about what happened to you guys but you have to leave.”

“But wait we,” the Efron boy starts, “We didn’t get your guy’s names.”

“I’m Lia,” Lia says, “She’s Julie.”

“Cool, I’m Luke… ” Efron Boy starts, coming closer. Julie pulls out the cross again and Lia grips onto her, “by the way… and this is…”

“Reggie,” leather boy says, “Reggie. I’m Reggie, hey.”

“And Alex, how’s it going.”

“Ba dah”

“I… I need to leave, I’ll see you tomorrow Jules… I just. I have to go home,” Lia stutters as she runs out of the shed.

“Lia!” Julie says as the boys look on curiously, “Okay?”

Julie walks out leaving the boys behind.

“They seem nice,” Reggie says.

“Did you miss the part where Julie kicked us out…” Alex asks, “Yeah? Ok.”

Lia’s Perspective - After walking out

I’m so confused like what is happening. Mum and dad don’t talk about him much but it has to be him right? In a rock band. Died in 1995 - when he was seventeen. I’m so confused. It would make sense right? Being able to see my brother and his band mates. But he doesn’t know who I am. Or that I even exist! And how could Julie see them too, but Carlos couldn’t. My entire life had been hindered by someone I had never met and today I met him.

“Ugh this is so frustrating!”

Come on Malia Patterson, pull it together.

Once I get home I say hi to mum and dad and head straight upstairs. Instead of heading back into my room, I walk down the hall towards the bedroom that was always closed. A room that held many memories, many I will never know and some that I created.

Dad wasn’t home yet and I had been playing with my small guitar in my room. It wasn’t very good but I was only six. I had been writing a song and I wanted to show my mum. I wandered out of my bedroom and called out for her.

“Momma! MOMMA?”

I saw the door that was always closed open. Mommy always told me to not go in there alone. I slowly crept up towards the door and found momma sitting on the bed with tears falling down her face.

“Momma? Momma why are you sad?”

“Ohh… my sweetie, come here.”

Slowly I walked in and looked around. Walls covered with posters and a worn out acoustic guitar on the wall. Slowly I crawled onto the bed and touched my momma’s face.

“Momma why are you sad? Why are you crying?”

“Ohh I just miss your brother.”

“Momma why did he go away. Why can’t he come home?”

“Oh baby. Your brother is somewhere else. Somewhere happy. We want him to be happy right?”

“Yes momma. But I want you to be happy to!”

“Sweetheart...”

“Mommy I wrote a song, do you want to hear it? Maybe it can make you happy. And maybe Luke can listen to it and be happy too!”

My mum gently brought me onto her lap.

“Oh sweetheart, I don’t know.”

“What’s going on here?”

“Daddy!”

He came and sat with us on the bed.

“Malia was just going to play something”

“Yeah mommy, are you ready”

I jumped off her lap and started playing the song I wrote. That moment is one I don’t think I’ll ever forget. My high pitched screech going along with the untuned music from my guitar. The regret and remorse on my mother and the wet tears against my dad's eyes. I tried so hard to make them smile and I promised that one day I’ll make them happy no matter what it took - I promised to bring Luke back to them.

I chuckle to myself. I slowly open the door and walk in, closing the door behind me and flipping on the light switch. That moment was 10 years ago. After Luke’s death they had never come into this room until i was born and became curious about why this door was always closed. They never let me listen to rock music or listen to Luke’s music. Literally they’ve blocked the work rock from all my devices. Still, I would come hear and just take in the rock posters and listen to the few tapes left behind. I slowly reach for the guitar that I used to sneak into the room to play with. After I hit a certain age, mum took away my tiny guitar and would not let me play any “rock” instruments. Unfortunately for her I took after my big brother a little too much. She always used to say she couldn’t take the idea of losing another child. Sitting on the bed I quickly tune it and strum the worn out strings. Slowly I started playing that song I made all those years ago.

I smile to myself, a little chuckle coming out as I gently place the guitar on the bed beside me, and lay down on my back. Is it possible that If I could see him, mum and dad could too? This whole thing is so confusing. And surreal. I met my brother. My big brother. My big brother who doesn’t even know I exist. I wonder what he’s like. Dad always said I reminded them of him so much, it hurt. I wonder how alike we really are. As my thoughts overrun my brain, I slowly close my eyes, thinking about how I could finally bring Luke back home to mum and dad and make them smile again.

The Next Morning - The Molina Household

Julie headed to the studio before Lia would pick her up to head for school. Yesterday had been a hard day for Julie but it must have been confusing as hell for Lia too. Julie wished her mum was around right now to talk to. She would have known what to do.

“Guys?” Julie asks, looking around the studio, “Guys?”

She slowly walks towards the grand piano, touching the words her mum had written. Julie lays them out in front of her and hovers her hand above the keys. Her hand slowly trembles as she starts to play.

The boys whoosh outside just as Lia comes in. She see’s Julie, takes a seat beside her and just holds onto her.

The dynamic between the crows UGH I can not talk about it ENOUGH. The casting is absolutely perfect for them, honest to god! Ben is absolutely killing it though, hate the character which means he's doing an amazing job. GOD I really am going to be rewatching this for a third time now aren't I?

Okay I had to do something but I am back half an hour later and watching the ending and it is giving me very strong emotions wow

Okay so.

First off: very good series - I was confused a whole lot but it made me feel things and I love it.

The ending was really well done, I think - there was a lot of ambiguity but it wrapped up enough of the emotional threads in a very effective manner.

Wow, uh. Hmmm. What to say.

Thoughts on characters/plot threads as I remember them:

I found that the strongest emotional thread of this show was probably the family/grief aspect. Mainly the family aspect, but the two were often combined. It showed up absolutely everywhere - it was both Wei Wuxian’s driving factor and in a way Jin Guangyao’s? Moreso the lack of it in the latter’s case. And a complicated issue with both (especially with their parents). On second thought this may hold true for a lot of the cast.

It did kind of feel like Wen Ruohan was kind of not a character and was just there to drive the war forward (and thus the characters and plot). Which is fine? But it leaves me feeling like the driving force behind the war was a little hollow, which is eh.

The Wen remnants were super compelling, though. That entire arc hit hard and made sense as a logical effect of the war.

I don’t really know how to feel about the post-timeskip stuff as a whole. On the one hand, I enjoyed myself a lot? It was great fun. On the other hand a lot of it contrasted sharply with the mass death at the end of the last arc.

The characters themselves were mostly pretty great (with the exceptions of, like, the Wen antagonists, some sect leaders, Su She and Jin Zixun).

I always have a hard time talking about main characters (in this case WWX and LWJ). I think it’s because we know so much about them that it’s hard to pick a single subject to talk about with them??

Anyway, they were really great. They had unique dynamics with each other and with all the other characters that evolved as they did. Neither were static characters and each step they took made sense?

Jiang Cheng is a very flawed character and he made me feel a lot and he’s my favorite. After a certain point he just had so many strong emotions, many of which conflicted each other and it was just entirely compelling and relatable. I feel like he is the strongest character outside of the main two + Jin Guangyao, although that may be my bias speaking.

Jin Guangyao. I totally forgot to think about story structure with him, frankly - didn’t see why he kept getting so much screen time and was constantly developing as well. I didn’t realize he was going to be a full-blown antagonist, let alone the antagonist, way past when I should have. He’s a sympathetic character, and the audience is reminded of this even as he does all these awful things. Yeah, he keeps finding himself in terrible situations but he also causes a lot of innocent casualties. I don’t totally know how to feel about him fully, but I think that’s the point.

Lan Xichen is also very flawed, but like. In a gentler way? I’m not sure we really see enough to know him as well as we could, but we do know that he’s trying and he cares, and sometimes that sucks for him.

Nie Huaisang is frankly a bit of an enigma. Unlike Jin Guangyao, he doesn’t exposit or drop masks where we can see him. I think he’s very interesting but maybe too underutilized in the majority of the series for me to say much else about him. I did really like the banter he had with Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian, though.

Not sure I have as much to say on the other characters. Oops.

Lan Sizhui! Best boy. I love him.

Wen Ning is also best boy. He’s adorable. And also terrifying sometimes.

Wen Qing was fantastic. I liked her character so much and was very sad to see her go.

I was very surprised by how much Jin Zixuan grew on me. Props to that.

Jin Ling was also great. I loved his interactions with basically everyone. Also I feel like with maybe the exception of maybe Lan Xichen the ending probably was the worst for him. Smack dab in the center of the family drama, if you can count multiple set-ups and murders that.

I kind of simultaneously wish Jiang Yanli was more and am kind of content with how she was? I mean some of her role is a little... overly-limited, but she’s still a fairly important aspect of the story and continuously makes her own decisions and the like.

Madame Yu was a more interesting character to me than her husband but was also much more antagonistic. It’s an interesting duality where I want to see more of her but also want her to not interact with the other characters much, which doesn’t make any sense.

Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan didn’t have much of an impact outside of the Coffin Town bit, but frankly that was painful enough that it’s fine!! It was well done and their situation was awful but that hurt enough already!

Xue Yang is a character. Very well-portrayed and I feel like the actor had a blast but I feel like he didn’t have a giant impact either? He was a cool and scary villain.

Overall, it was a great show with a lot of interesting characters! It was great at emotional storytelling, except for when there was whiplash. I loved the music and the costuming, and the actors were great. Some of the special effects were a little wacky (looking at Lan Xichen’s instrument and the Wens’ dog thing), but some of them were really cool (see: Wen Ning’s entrance into the temple). Sometimes the politics-talk grated my nerves a bit, but that may be mostly a personal preference thing. The fighting also took some getting used to, but was impressive in some areas.

The show made me feel a lot and I am still feeling both the mixed bittersweet feelings from the show and that oh-shoot-the-story’s-over hole-in-the-chest feeling right now, but I don’t know how else to talk about that.

It wasn’t perfect but I enjoyed it a lot and am very impressed by it.

7x01 A New Deal: Some Thoughts And Reactions

AWESOME!!!!!!!!

(Spoilers below the cut)

Daisy. Immediately activating Coulson despite Jemma’s warnings was risky, I’ll admit, but honestly, I would have done the same. It’s going to be very interesting to watch their dynamic play out this season, with the added complication that Coulson is a LMD and knows it.

Also, I love how she just took that sexist cop DOWN - that’s my girl. And that fight scene! As my brother coined it, “quake-tastic.”

Yoyo. I felt for her here - though the new arms are cool, and it’s probably a good idea to blend in. 

Jemma. Jemma is so... resolute. And a little ruthless, to be honest. Still, she’s very much In Control, and I’m loving it! 

May. Oh, my gosh, May - I’m glad she’s better, but why is she on the roof??? And I wonder how she’s going to react to seeing Coulson... 

Coulson. The hot potato of the season, I think... but so far they’ve handled the LMD thing very well. Best line of the whole ep: dad jokes... it’s a glitch. 

Mack. He’s just such a good director, ahhhh I love him. Kudos to him for not saying anything about the racism, though - I would have wanted to punch that guy. On that note, I’m glad AoS isn’t ignoring the racism/sexism issue, but dealing with it quite tastefully.

Deke. Deke is... important this season! Firstly, he has his own workstation, which, aww. Secondly, he stole a car, and Daisy’s proud of him - also aww. (Side note: this does make me wonder if DekeDaisy is going to be a thing this season... Still debating whether I’m behind that or not.)

Enoch. Oh, he’s always hilarious, and this ep was no exception. 

Fitz? I missed him this episode! But apparently it’s too dangerous to send him a message - sigh, AoS really loves separating Fitzsimmons. At least we know he’s safe, wherever - and whenever, I guess - he is. 

Outfits!! “Suit up...” and then everyone in period clothing! Ahhhhhhhhh! Daisy looked gorgeous in both her outfits, and the guys looked smart. 

Jemma’s new look deserves some (a lot) of praise, too. 

Chronicoms and Twisty Plot Turns. From the face-stealing cops to the Freddie/FDR mixup, this episode was great in terms of the Chronicoms! What a novel idea - destroy Hydra so SHIELD was never formed. As Daisy put it, “so now we have to save Hydra? Great.” 

Yes, that is great - all twisty and wonderful and a great premise. I can’t wait for the next episode - it’s called Know Your Onions and here’s the promo!
