Maeil (aka Daily)

there are two meanings to their ship name

first is, of course, their names mashed together but the second meanings is much cuter and the one fans use to explain their dynamic

When Mae found out their ship name was Maeil her first reaction was “Oh? Is it because I make sure to let Taeil hyung I love him daily?” while cuddling Taeil on a couch

he’s the same age as Mae’s older brother so she treats him as such

her brother is literally like “Are you replacing me with Taeil? I’m your reall brother!” and she’s just there sweating

part of Taeil’s hype squad and will fight donghyuck for the position of president

like the two were on vlive and spent a good fifteen minutes arguing about their positions in the club Mae won but donghyuck refuses to acknowledge it

he could be doing something simple and you can see Mae in the background with a big smile cheering

he’s also like her personal teddy bear whenever she wants cuddles and/or wants to rest

there are just multiple gifs floating around nct twt of Mae tackling Taeil for a hug or her just clinging to him on a couch because she’s either tired and wants to rest or just wants cuddles

absolutely adores his voice

there are multiple compilations on youtube about all the times Mae compliments Taeil on his voice and him just blushing the whole time

was lowkey intimidated bc the man is a fucking tree and basically towers over her

but then he saw him play around with some other trainees and that thought disappeared real quick

he’s more like the protective older brother than like a parent like Doyoung or Taeyong

can and has used his height to his advantage when it comes to scaring people who hurt Mae or do something to make her sad

he was one of the first people who found out about her old company and he looked like he was about to storm their building probably would’ve if it weren’t for Mae

one of the first people she became friends with because he always answered questions she had when she was a trainees

before debut there were times people could see Johnny walk somewhere and Mae is just trailing after him like a lost puppy more like running because the man’s legs are long and he walks faster

there was this one time someone asked where Mae was and Johnny just shuffled to the side to reveal her behind him

his large frame was just big enough to hide her from everyone’s vision unless you walk past the two

you know that one vid of predebut nct performing Under The Sea with Johnny wearing the fish head? Mae was supposed to join him dressed as Ariel but the idea was cut last minute

there was this one time Mae couldn’t see something bc she was too short so Johnny lifted her up and put her on his shoulders

okay enough about Mae’s height

during shows he’s always encouraging Mae to talk more when she seems unsure whether to give her input or not

johnny, after an interviewer asks a question: “what do you think Mae?”

absolutely melts whenever she does aegyo because no matter how old she is he’ll always see her as the cute kid who followed him everywhere

MaeTae

honestly it’s hard to pinpoint where Taeyong’s protective parental energy started getting directed to Mae

like it might’ve been somewhere predebut but she doesnt know when

she’s like 50% sure she just blanked out and suddenly Taeyong appeared in her life scolding her for not taking care of herself

it’s not like she’s complaining abt it she’s really grateful to have someone like him in her life

when her family got worried abt her joining a group filled with guys he personally went to her house and calmly explained how Mae will be taken care of and how the group will make sure that she’ll be safe

first person to know if there’s something between SM and Mae that the other members don’t know about

he was also the first member to know about what happened with Mae and her old company

she knows she can trust him with anything

he found her alone crying in one of the practice rooms and she just poured her heart out to him

Whenever they go places as a large group he looks for Mae first before counting the other members

she got lost once and now he doesnt want her out of his sight for more than five minutes

she got him a “world’s greatest dad” trophy as a joke that he has on a shelf in his room

YuMae

you know how yuta acts with mark and winwin? yeah he does the same for Mae

if he isnt giving a hug to mark he’s all the way across the room with Mae giving her a back hug

Mae: does nothing

Yuta: aigoo look how cute she is :)

she doesnt ignore him tho she just returns the affection

likes to jump on his back for a piggy back ride or just run and jump to give him a hug

there was this one clip that went viral of Yuta talking to someone and he just pauses for a moment before turning around to catch Mae, who seemingly came out of nowhere, into a hug and turned back to his conversation

neither yuta nor the other person seemed fazed so this seemed like a regular occurrence to them

he teaches her japanese!

its beneficial to both of them because Mae can learn and Yuta won’t forget any Japanese while living in Korea :D

really really really loves his smile

like real whipped (A/N i wrote this while watching the under the sea performance and now im going through it)

like she sees him smile and that makes her smile and that makes fans smile

Can and has glared at “fans” and other people who make her uncomfortable whether it be at the airport or during their schedules

There was this one time Mae was walking ahead of him when there were fansites following them and he just pulled her back into his arms because he noticed an anti of hers was nearby

again did not know how Doyoung because like a parent to Mae but she just ended up rolling with it

She just has this aura to her that makes you want to care of her and give her love

whenever they go eat together with the group he always put food on her plate, regardless of whether the managers glare at him or not he glares back anyway so they back off

“doyoung she’s been put on a diet-” “she’s going to eat whether you like it or not”

one time Mae got sick with a fever and he just burst into her room with medicine and soup

if taeyong has the “world’s greatest dad” trophy doyoung has the “world’s greatest mom” trophy that he says he’ll throw it away but has it perched on his desk

Mae’s also one of the members who like to clown him

she’s the one of the reasons he already has gray hairs

Mae has a folder of embarrassing photos of Doyoung’s childhood that his brother sent to her and refuses to delete it

she cant do anything about them tho bc Doyoung got his own folder of babie Mae pics courtesy of Mae’s older brother

Haechan has tried and failed to gain access to either of those folders

Loves the energy he gives and thinks he’s so funny

He never fails to make her laugh whenever she needs cheering up

they used to be shy around each other when he first joined the group but they caught each other having a midnight snack so they just talked at 3am eating ramen until doyoung found them and told them to go to bed

now it’s just tradition for them to go to a convenience store together and eat ramen or whatever snacks they decide to get

nobody is allowed to join them its only a MaeWoo thing

Mae has natural aegyo but Jungwoo has taught her to use it to her advantage which she does but not often

Majority of the time he kinda just feels like they’re the same age or younger so newer fans get shocked when they find out she’s younger

Like there was this one time Johnny the two were playing Smash Bros and Mark was whining because he lost and Mae was jumping in the background cheering it was his fourth loss in a row but he won’t say it

they were kinda awkward around each other at first so johnny literally had to stick them in a room together and didn’t let them leave until they talked to each other

it worked and they just vibed and rambled about different topics like trainee life and what mark’s life in Vancouver was like

speaking of Vancouver

one time during their stay in Vancouver they wanted to have a friend date but he lost her at a mall and took twenty minutes trying to find her until she used the announcement service to call him

he wouldve ask his Vancouver friends to go with them but some of them had a crush on mae so no <3

When she first starting writing songs and her own lyrics she went to Mark first and asked if the lyrics she wrote were good

They were amazing and Mark made sure to tell her that :D

mae’s reaction to his dream graduation was one of the saddest things czennies have seen so when she found out he was coming back she would not let go of him

You know how I said Maehyun was the soft and uwu type of siblings? Well Maechan are the bickering type of siblings

You know the ones who like to bicker over minor things but still would protect each other for life

they have so much dirt on each other on trainee days lmao

Haechan when someone insults Mae: listen here you little shit

The only person allowed to clown her is him and the rest of NCT

he heard a trainee talk shit about her once and they still can’t look haechan in the eye

he’s only a few months older than her but he uses the “i’m older!” card whenever he can

“i’m older therefore i get to go first” “excuse me sir but you’re only three months older than me” “but im still older”

they fight for the title of the favorite 127 maknae but they both know that can do what they want

Mae is more lenient towards the hyungs during yaja time than haechan is tho so she just vibes whenever they go to scold him when the games over

they do team up a lot so they’re a menace when they do something together

especially in games

their competitive nature plus their brain power together? its over it even started

50% of the time they have to be separated from each other when it comes to choosing teams

Best of K-Pop 2021 - 10-1

All of these are SOTY material in my book...

10. Oneus - LUNA. I've been rooting for Oneus every since Bing Bing nearly topped my best of 2019 list. 2021 gave me two excellent title tracks from Oneus (and one awful one but we're gonna ignore). As with 2019's Lit, Oneus mixes traditional and contemporary music to great effect, but this time it's 80s pop so you know I ate it up. The way each version of Luna's chorus has different beat drops keeps it fresh throughout. Also, they had the great sense to leave the dance break off the album.

09. SHINee - Atlantis. Y’all can have View, but Atlantis is the summer sea epic that I deserve. Shinee picked up where Ateez left off, satisfying my previously unknown need for conceptual songs about the ocean. I can't tell you what SM was thinking with Don't Call Me, but they remembered who Shinee was for the repackage. Atlantis also has the best Minho rap in a title track since Lucifer - him saying “Atlantis” with 4 syllables is iconic.

08. aespa - YEPPI YEPPI. You know what, girl crush is great actually. I’m impressed but not surprised that SM figured out to elevate this generation of girl group k-pop – unlike their title track of the same name, Yeppix2 is actually the next level of the girl-crush genre. I love a confidence anthem, and this is the best one since Dalla Dalla. Nonstop hyperpop energy that adds 10 years to my life. Ok aespa, I see y'all.

07. Seventeen - Heaven's Cloud. Winner of my go-to serotonin booster award of 2021. Heaven's Cloud instantly became my favorite Seventeen song. The synths are literal heaven - boy groups, this is what happiness sounds like! Woozi was in his bag in 2021 I can't deny. Gimme your gimme your gimme your love love cloud.

06. SHINee - I Really Want You. Shinee being Shinee, we love to hear it. My favorite and most played song for most of the year. I literally cannot feel bad listening to this. Loud, brassy, shimmering funk music with Shinee’s undefeatable vocals. It's up there with Married to the Music and Dream Girl (should have been the title track, fu SM).

05. Seventeen - To You. I really didn't expect Seventeen to top Heaven's Cloud. And then I heard the teaser for Attaca, and I knew they were going to give me everything I wanted in 2021. To You hits all the beats of Heaven's Cloud but with a stronger beat, making it an intense and uplifting synth banger.

04. Golden Child - Spell. Sonic crack 😜. I don't know how else to describe how I feel when Spell comes on - I have to set a limit on how many times I can repeat this song so that my play metrics don't get screwed. The homies stole WJSN's music to great effect for Spell. Just pure glittery adrenaline, my boys are at their best when at 100% energy. Full8loom can’t miss - when Golden Child gets a Full8loom title track it's over for your favs I promise.

03. Key (SHINee) - Bad Love. Leave it to Shinee to outdo Shinee. I’ve been sleeping on Key’s solo potential – this blew every other solo out of the water. I'm genuinely surprised Key got better music that Kai or Taemin. Look at SM giving a sh** about the singers. Pounding 80’s beats are always welcome in my k-pop, and Key’s vocals make the song soar (the ending!!!). Everyone says this is copying the Weeknd, but I don't listen to the radio or go to the mall, so I don't know what y'all are talking about! Song must slap though, if it led to this!

02. Dreamcatcher - Poison Love. The only song to stay in my top 3 since January. I love edm dance tracks from the girlies (see Lovelyz's Temptation, f*cking love it), and Dreamcatcher has some of my favorite dark and bass-heavy edm b-sides (Sleepwalking and Silent Night are 👑). Poison Love is their best one yet - sleek, dramatic, and angsty. My previous best of year pics for 2019 (Woohyun - Just Look at Me) and 2020 (Pentagon - Asteroid) were synth edm tracks, so Poison Love was most poised to take the number 1 spot, at least until Shinee came back. But then...

01. Seventeen - Rock With You. I really thought Shinee would sweep my end of the year list, but I can't deny the hold Rock With You has on me. Seventeen has been giving all of their good songs to Japan ever since 2018's phenomenal Call Call Call. Not a bad decision, but as a result, I haven’t cared about a Seventeen Korean comeback since Thanks. Hit and Fear were good for like a week but had zero staying power, and I couldn't be bothered to buy or stream their 2020 K-releases. And in 2021, Heaven's Cloud was so good I completely forgot about Ready to Love. HOWEVER, with Attaca, Seventeen decided to give Korea the good sh** this time! Rock With You is now my favorite Seventeen song in a year that gave me my three favorite Seventeen songs ever. It's also their strongest comeback since Aju Nice (the good old days when Seventeen was fun). There's not a single flaw I can find in this comeback. The song is full of energy with hooks all over the place, the choreo is 10/10, everyone looks great (especially Jeonghan). Even though Shinee didn't take the top spot, I feel like Shinee is still responsible for this comeback - their return to k-pop encouraged Woozi and Hoshi and the rest of them to not flop in front of their favs. Seventeen is out here showing all these Super Junior clones with too many boys how it's done!

(Early Edition: ”Belly Up to the Bar”, a canon-compliant continuation of the episode “Occasionally Amber”, Gary/Toni except kinda not really because she’s totally pissed)

2- Oracle, Texas. 1878. A gnarled husk of a town still trying to deny that its glory days are past. (”Gunslinger”, my serious treatment/retelling of the Roger Corman western)

3- The gate clanged shut behind him, and Meng Yao took a deep, steadying breath. (MDZS: ”Leverage”, an Untamed AU based on inspired by pretty much continuing @littlesmartart‘s brilliant setup and concept)

(TMFU (2015): ”Girls Just Want to Have Fun”, a fic set in my “Eight Strapping Daughters” universe where it is currently 1987 and Gaby and Illya have had eight daughters, any of whom are capable of taking over the world... and all of whom are about to spend the day at a shopping mall)

6- He felt the phone vibrating in his pocket. (Sailor Moon: ”Moon Revenge”, a Minako/Kunzite bodyguard AU)

7- The Moon was visiting Earth. (Sailor Moon: ”No Miracle for the Likes of Us”- another working title- which is Venus/Kunzite-centric exploration of the end of the Silver Millenium)

8- Chibi-Usa hasn’t stayed very long after Helios departed. (Sailor Moon: ”Rebirth AU”- you guessed it... working title- a Minako/Kunzite-heavy-but-not-exclusive AU that deviates from the manga/SM Crystal canon after the end of the Dead Moon Circus arc where the Shitennou are revived and the events of Star never occur)

9- Monday, 7:00 AM: Alarm goes off.

Monday, 7:00:08 AM: Alarm thrown across room. (Sailor Moon: “Codename: Teen Idol ‘Dite”, a side arc set in the above AU where, lacking any catastrophic galactic conflicts to fight against, Minako is going out of her mind with boredom and takes an undercover job as an idol as part of a police/Interpol sting operation)

10- Normally, Salazar Slytherin took great pride in his self-control. (Harry Potter: ”Release”, a short Hogwarts founders one-shot involving a maddening magical construction project and a sudden bout of swearing)

11- It was the first truly warm day since winter had broken, and Salazar Slytherin wandered the grounds with no purpose or destination in mind, simply basking in the sunlight until he began to feel the chill of the dungeons recede from his bones. (Harry Potter: ”And Treat Them All the Same”, a Hogwarts founders story about Helga Hufflepuff’s background and why she feels very strongly about equal treatment)

12- Salazar Slytherin stared at the wardrobe for another minute before finally deciding to throw another fur over his fur-lined cloak, leather jerkin, and wool tunic. (Harry Potter: another one-shot Hogwarts founders fic with a teeny bit of Helgazar where the very cold-blooded Slytherin has to deal with a snowball fight, currently but not definitively titled “Snow Day”)

13- As the sun disappeared beneath the horizon, Brooklyn burst through the thin stone crust encasing him, his awakening roar shifting into a yawn as he stared blearily at the skyline and tried to remember what century he was in. (Gargoyles: ”Return of the Time Dancer”, Brooklyn’s return to New York- family in tow- after his Phoenix Gate adventures)

14- The couple breaking their fast that morning were strikingly handsome, if perhaps past the most fashionable age. (The Scarlet Pimpernel, Pride and Prejudice: “Scarlet Impressions”, a crossover fic that pretty much unfolded itself when I a) crunched numbers regarding the dates and years of respective storylines and b) realized that while Lizzy and Marguerite would get on like a house on fire, Darcy’s only possible reaction to Sir Percy would be unmitigated horror poorly repressed due to the latter’s much higher social standing)

15- Paris really was lovely this time of year. (MCU: “Threads and Patches: Part One”, first part of a three-part Clintasha AU set after the events of Civil War and most emphatically *not* farm-family friendly)

16- The briny air filled her lungs to bursting, but she continued to draw in breath until it hurt. (Highlander the Series: “The Mad Viking Saga”... because, frankly, EVERYONE should have an Immortal™ self-insert character and I refuse to apologize or feel ashamed of mine)

17- “Your Highness? The oracle is here.” (Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas: “Sinbad and the Garden of the Hesperides” a sequel to the animated movie that actually should be titled “Proteus and the etc., etc.” bc it’s mostly about him and giving him the ending I think he deserves, a.k.a. an OC love interest and a chance for adventure while on a quest to save his city from a plague)

18- Bare feet pounded on the hot, rough pavement as Sinbad dashed around another tight corner. (Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas: “Fast Friends”, an eight-chapter prequel telling the story of how Sinbad and Proteus met and grew up together, wherein each chapter progresses with each year they know each other from when they meet to when Sinbad leaves)

19- Reed was well-known as your stereotypical absent-minded professor. (Fantastic Four: “Shut Up and Dance With Me”, a Reed/Sue fluffy one shot where Reed is adorable because fight me)

20- The spaceport on Aruus Minor reeked of fuel, welding torches, and sweaty coveralls, but it was a welcome change from the recycled air of the Lambda shuttle. (Star Wars Legends Expanded Universe (BITE ME DISNEY): “Everything Unsaid”, a Luke/Mara chance encounter set during the we-share-an-unbearable-degree-of-compatibility-to-say-nothing-of-the-overwhelming-sexual-tension-but-both-of-our-lives-are-kind-of-a-mess-and-neither-of-us-feels-ready-to-deal-with-our-feelings-for-each-other-so-we’ve-individually-decided-to-just-ignore-said-feelings-while-simultaneously-being-drawn-to-each-other-whenever-we’re-so-much-as-in-the-same-fucking-hemisphere years)

WHEW! Well, it sure was fun to tease all my followers with a taste of fics that will neverrr be finished! As far as patterns go, seems I tend to prefer either set-up paragraphs or punchy one-to-three-liners intended to trick intrigue people into reading further. My favorite is definitely #9. It’s a diary/log of Minako’s day, and her POV is hilarious and sooooo much fun to write like that!

Hello everyone~

Finally! I’ll be starting my kookmin/jikook fic rec. This has taken quite a while and I have over 500 fics to share 😭I’ll be dividing my posts into different parts and hopefully when I read new ones, I can start posting them separately.

So again, some disclaimers before we start!

Most of the fics I read involve some pretty heavy tags and almost always involve smut (lmao sorry, I’m a heathen what can I say)

With that said, READ THE TAGS FOR EACH FIC. Remember kids: dead dove don’t eat.

This compilation will include: one-shots (c*mshots hekhek), chaptered, on-going, completed, and discontinued (yes, sadistic i know).

There may be some fluff recs here. But don’t count on it.

I'll cut the summaries as much as I can so that you won't get the whole block of text some writers include ksjdkjs

Again, and I will not stress this enough, don’t come at me if there are fics with dubious tags. I am a pretty open-minded reader and I’ve read my sizeable share of dark, disturbing fics so if you see tags not for you, move along.

Unfortunately their views differ greatly and Jungkook has little respect for the south's soft approach, but Jimin is a prince just like him and will not stand by and let him have his way.

Summary:Park Jimin works hard, and everyone knows it. Job-stealing newcomer Jeon Jeongguk doesn't seem to work for much of anything at all, and he's more than arrogant enough for them both. But he's certainly well-connected, tall and rich and good at everything. Jimin hates him on sight, and by the end of the first week he's sure they're eternal enemies. And sure, Jeongguk may be cute, even hot underneath his suits, but Jimin doesn't care about that. Not at all.

Everyone but Jeon Jungkook, the hot new military trauma surgeon straight out of the army. The decorated veteran is brilliant and quick witted, but has a hot temper and absolutely zero tolerance for bullshit. When Park Jimin makes a bad first impression on him, things get extremely salty between the two very different personalities.

Comment: From one of my fave twitter AU writers, she never disappoints. The medical!KM fic y'all should read. Don't be bothered by the remaining chapter, I think it's only an epilogue to the story anyway.

Reminiscing Manila

The cities of Manila light up brighter than any other city in the Philippines. Of course that makes sense, considering how Luzon is the more urban side to the country. The streets of Bonifacio extend far and wide for a person to explore around itself, and it is absolutely perfect for an evening drive. Then on the other hand, there’s the smell of my favorite burger steak that I go for in UCC cafe which is found in the inside of the tall and wide SM Mall of Asia. There’s also the Ocean Park that I used to go to see lots of fishes and sea creatures. Every Saturdays, there was always somewhere to go to and something to do with my friends and family.

And now, here I am, standing outside of the Mactan Cebu International Airport. I feel the dread and incoming sadness welling up in me as I reminisced those times in Manila- now all gone because the decision to stay in Cebu was decided to be permanent. No more parks to go to, malls to hang around and sadly no more of my favorite food to eat out.

But, while I had the feeling of unhappiness due to having to start over a new life, deep down I had the feeling of excitement as well as the feeling of nervousness. And being in Cebu made me appreciate a lot of things. It might seem nothing close to the skyscrapers of Manila towering over several other buildings, but there are places that I could hang around just like walking around in Rizal Park. There’s IT Park, where its filled with restaurants and places of interest, and then there’s also several other malls which have their own points of charm, especially SM Seaside since it’s bigger than SM Mall of Asia. There were still parks to go to, malls to hang around, and also new food to discover and eat to find my new favorite after all.

About Monte Maria

Monte Maria is a Pilgrimage center dedicated to Mary, Mother of All Asia. The development was conceived as a destination to attract devotees and pilgrims. It can be considered as a tourism and or retirement village.

Preparation to Monte Maria

As the sun shine, we set our goals for the travel and do our morning routine. First, we cooked meals for the travel and buy some snacks. We also checked our Gasoline if its full, check water of the car and Breaks if its ok.

Travelling

We started travelling at 10 o'clock in the Morning (a bit late but it’s okay) We set the maps to Monte Maria and we followed it. As we travel more, the heat started to rise. Even if you are inside the car with full blast Air Con, you will feel like you're near the sun.

12 o'clock came and we stop for a bit and eat our lunch at this small Halo Halo shop that we found. We ate Bistek and it was delicious, after that my Mom bought us some Halo halo. After eating, we continue our journey to Monte Maria, where we saw along the way these huge Crude Oil tanks and these factories nearby, little did we know we are technically near Batangas Port.

As we travel past this factories and Oil storage facility I noticed these 3 Cross (the one where Jesus Christ is crucified) for every 1 kilometer we went, there will be 3 cross. My mom told me it’s part of the Holy week, since Holy week is coming near. As we continue travelling, we were amazed on how tall and big the statue is. The statue stood 96 meters. After an hour of traveling, we arrive at Monte Maria around 1 o'clock in the afternoon.

Happenings

We are now in Monte Maria; I was amazed in the surrounding. I expected it to be more "green" like full of trees and plants since it is what I saw from their videos in the website of Monte Maria. The place looks rough for me, a bit dry and hot. But that stop us, as we parked our car, not only we can see the statue itself, but we also see these wide blue open sea where you can see the Verde Island and the Island of Mindoro. Technically we are in the southernmost part of Batangas City. As we step down from our car we took our first Photo of the Sea and the statue. We continue to endure the heat of the Sun because arrived there in there in the afternoon where the sun is directly above us.

We are now walking and continue to walk in the stairs nearby to go to the top. We continue taking a picture while we took some break since my mom not that fond of walking on stairs. Picture after pictures, breaks after breaks, we arrive at the top of the stairs where the statue is standing. As we went inside the building, we saw a small church where you can pray and thanks God that you arrived safely after long hour trip.

As I saw the statue I wanted to go to the top but unfortunately, works are still on going and drew back my expectations to go up the statue.

We are done praying and taking break below the statue, we decided to go back to the car. As we go back, my father saw these rough terrains and said it was a 'shortcut' to the parking lot, so we followed him. Halfway through the rough trail, we stumbled upon a small church. A replica church.

It was donated by a family from Pampanga who has a great love and devotion to the Image of Infant Jesus. My mom went inside and prayed again while me and my father took some photos around the church. After that, we also went inside and prayed.

As we decided to finally went back to the car, my mom saw a Souvenir shop and bought some souvenir and snacks. After that, we went back to our car where we eat again before we finally left the area.

Going home

We took off Monte Maria at 3 o'clock and felt tired from all walking but it was worth it. As we continue travelling home we decided to go to the nearby SM Batangas, it felt the same as any other SM. It’s a mall, huge mall full of stores but I noticed it doesn't have that much people unlike any SM Mall that I've been or is it just so big that the place has bigger space for everyone? I don't know but malls are malls. We didn't stay that much at the Mall we then decided to go home after 30 minutes.

Before we Travel, we set our maps again and instead travelling the road where we used travel we decided to use the Star Tollway road to SLEX Calamba exit. It’s an Express way and nothing more to expect since it is just a direct road but beside that, as the sun sets, these orange rays of light hits the surrounding and the side Mount Makiling. It is beautiful and amazing. After travelling on the express way, we entered Calamba and Los Baños where we experience irritating Traffic. And that's all for today. What an amazing day trip!

💡✨5 Things You Need to Know About Cosplay Mania💡✨

Cosplay Mania is the largest and most anticipated Anime and Cosplay Convention in the Philippines with over 40,000 attendees last year, hundreds of exhibits, huge international sponsors and exhibitors, and unmatched, exclusive guests and content. Held on September 28-29, 2019 at the SMX Convention Center Manila in Pasay City (next to SM Mall of Asia), the convention will take place in a sprawling 9,130 square meter space.

So, how do you prepare for the mother of all conventions? Here is some essential information that will help you maximize your enjoyment.

1) Tickets: There are essentially 3 Ticket Tiers for Cosplay Mania: Silver, Gold and VIP. There are special, discounted tickets such as Ultra Saver, Super Saver and Great Saver, but they essentially do the same thing as the regular Silver, Gold and VIP aside from discounted rates.

Silver Tickets provide access to the entire convention including all the exhibits, Fan Meets and other activities at the convention except for the JAM (Japanese Anime Music) Concert.

Gold Tickets provide access to everything Silver Tickets do plus Standing Room in the back section of the JAM Concert.

VIP Tickets provide everything Silver Tickets do plus Reserved Seating in the front section of the JAM Concert. In addition, VIP Ticket holders also receive front section seating for special fan meets and access to the Premium Lounge where they can relax with free drinks and snacks.

Tickets can be purchased through any SM Tickets outlet located in SM Supermalls nation-wide or online through http://smtickets.com.

2) Entrances: There are essentially two entrances to the venue. First, there is the side entrance (church side) which is for people who do not yet have tickets. Second, there’s the main entrance for people who already have tickets.

Do you remember the Ultra Saver, Super Saver and Great Saver tickets we mentioned before? In addition to being cheaper, they come with the added benefit of allowing you to enter the venue as early as 9:00 AM, up to two hours earlier than those who choose to buy tickets on the day.

Early entrance gives you first dibs on all the exclusive merchandise, freebies and activities at the convention. As these items are usually limited, coming in early could ensure that you get your hands on them before they run out.

In addition, a portion of the exhibit will be open starting 10:00 AM which includes the Cosplay Mania Store, Food and Refreshment Booths and the Premium Lounge. This is a great place to grab a snack, get some early shopping done or relax in the Premium Lounge if you have a VIP Ticket.

3) Navigating the Con: Cosplay Mania 2019 is divided into two distinct areas: the EX Hall or Exhibits Hall and the SP Hall or Special Performance Hall. All the big exhibits including Collectibles, Fashion, Video Games, Online Games, TCG’s and much more are in the EX Hall.

Of special note is the Quantum Booth which features free play of the latest video games from Japan as well as huge video game tournaments. There is also the Lumica Stage where you can learn to use light sticks while dancing to amazing Japanese DJ’s and where you can watch the Cyalume World Dance Battle where the Philippine Representative will be determined. The Mobile Legends booth will also give out some official merchandise as well as launch new mobile games. Good Smile Company will also have event exclusive merchandise although some items will be sold in very limited quantities. There’s also the Ludus Booth for all the latest Collectible Card Games with game demos where you could take home freebies!

Tons of exhibit booths are also available as well as an artist section called Fan Fair where fan-made merchandise are available at very affordable prices. There’s so much to explore, so make sure to give yourself enough time to look around and really enjoy the convention.

4) The Stage Program: Aside from all the different exhibits to explore, there are two stages where the feature programs will happen: the EX Stage and the SP Stage. Both stages are packed with performances, fan meets, contests and more! Be sure to study the program schedule for both stages to maximize your enjoyment.

It is important to note, however, that the program for both days are very different and if you miss one, you won’t be able to experience that particular segment even if you return the second day. It’s also very important to remember that Cosplay Mania tries to keep things fresh every year which means a different line-up of guests so this could be your only chance to experience some of these guests in person for many years to come.

Live in the moment and enjoy the experience in person instead of through your devices. Quickly Rising Water: Royal Valley, Davao

I met Rachel, a coordinator for a non-governmental organization, at a restaurant called Mesa. She wore a long, white dress and told me that she had trained as a nurse. It was 11:30 on a Sunday morning. During the night, an intense rain storm had moved onto the island of Mindanao from the Celebes Sea. Now it seemed the storm had passed. The sun had emerged, and the heat and humidity had settled back over the city of Davao.

In front of a pair of glass doors, Rachel handed me a dossier, which we had discussed on the phone, and, as quickly as she had appeared, she disappeared once again, saying she was late for another appointment.

Although Mesa occupied a large space on the ground floor of a sprawling, modern shopping center, called SM Lanang, it was crowded and noisy. The waiter said: “You want a bottle of San Miguel Light?” I replied: “No, fresh fruit juice.”

Something irritated me. Was it the blast of cold air from the restaurant’s air conditioner or the stark contrast of the modern shopping center with its grim surroundings? SM Lanang was an island in a sea of slums. Or was it Davao City itself, a 19th century outpost, with a muddy river running through it?

The waiter brought a tall glass of calamansi juice.

My immediate goal was to deliver some initial figures on low-income families in the Philippines to my research partner in the U.S. She had been waiting for a week. We had graduated together from the School of Global Policy and Strategy at the University of California, San Diego and worked together for two years.

My ultimate goal on this trip was to complete a series of interviews with various families in Davao. When I turned on my computer and accessed the Internet, the waiter hovered over me. Like many others I had encountered in my travels across the Philippines, he was curious.

Family

I ate the rice, vegetables, and chicken, and I sent my latest figures by e-mail. Then my telephone rang. “I’ll pick you up in front of the main entrance of SM Lanang at 1:00.” It was Chuy, my taxi driver. I looked at my watch. The digital numbers showed 12:15. Rachel had arranged a visit for me with a family at 3:30 in the afternoon. The people lived in Royal Valley, a community on the outskirts of Davao City.

My thoughts turned to Jogie. She was supposed to go with me to meet the family.

With 11 family members living in a dwelling of 70 square meters with one bedroom, a kitchen, a living room, and a bathroom, I could imagine serious problems. There was no privacy. According to the World Health Organization, a minimum amount of living space for an adult in a house was 20 square meters. The seven adults in this family required at least 140 square meters, or twice what they had.

Imelda, 54, and her sister, Maria, 43, were the matriarchs of the family. Bonifacio, 55, was the husband of Imelda and worked 60 hours per week, earning 150 dollars, per month as a forklift operator. Arnold, 40, was the husband of Maria and also worked 60 hours per week, earning slightly more, 175 dollars per month as a taxi driver. The only wage earners toiled nearly every daylight hour six days per week.

The two couples shared the house with two of their children and five of their grandchildren. How did it all work?

Martha, a daughter of Imelda and Bonifacio, was the mother of three girls, Mary, 6, Lila, 4, and Rihanna, 9 months. Armane, a daughter of Maria and Arnold, was the mother of a baby girl, Rian, 6 months. While Martha was 27 years old, Armane was only 17. Although Martha received 2,000 pesos, or 50 dollars, per month from the father of her children, Armane received no support of any kind from the father of her baby. Because Armane was immature and penniless, her situation was dire. Her baby was both sick and undersized.

Anthony, the son of another daughter of Maria and Arnold, had showed up only recently and had enrolled in high school. He was almost a mystery. It was not clear where Anthony’s mother and father were.

I turned off my computer. The bill for lunch was 1,000 pesos, the equivalent of 25 dollars. It was more than a family of five, living at the poverty line, would spend on food in two weeks.

System

When I exited the restaurant, I saw a security guard, one of the ubiquitous guards stationed at the door of nearly every business across the Philippines. The young man, maybe 20 years old, was dressed in his uniform of a white, button-down shirt with black tie, black trousers, and black shoes and was followed by two older, casually but expensively dressed men. The young man walked briskly; so, too, did the pair of older men. All three of them were talking. But it wasn’t clear they were talking to one another. Then the words spoken by the three men became distinct as they passed me.

“Mar Roxas wants to take care of you,” said one of the two, older men. “I’ve already received 500 pesos from him,” replied the young security guard, “but I’m not sure it’s enough.”

At first, the manner of the young security guard struck me as odd. He spoke as if he were thinking about something else, as if he didn’t care. Then I realized that the vote buying for the presidential elections had started in earnest. The two, older men, who worked for the Filipino political elite, were bribing the younger man.

It was clear that, down to the last detail, the system was corrupt.

In front of the main entrance, Chuy waited in his taxi. I sat down in the back seat of the car. My cell phone rang. “I’m with Imelda and Maria,” Jogie said after I answered the phone. “We’re at Bankerohan. Meet us here at 1:30.”

From SM Lanang, Chuy followed J.P. Laurel Avenue, traveling southwest. We passed the Abreeza Mall and the Seda Abreeza Hotel on the left. At the next intersection, Chuy turned right on Elpidio Quirino Avenue. Before crossing the Davao River, Chuy turned right again. We stopped in front of Bankerohan.

Millennial Women, International Airport, Davao

Lifeblood

A sprawling outdoor market, Bankerohan was the most important source of food for the majority of Davao’s 1.5 million people. On that Sunday afternoon, women and children and a few men moved among the stalls, where shoppers could buy everything from fruits, vegetables, and rice to poultry, pork meat, and seafood.

I joined Imelda next to a display covered with rows of fish—tilapia, according to a sign—resting on a bed of ice. “Do you always buy tilapia here?” I said.

Hesitating for a moment, Imelda replied: “Sometimes I buy fish from a vendor who passes by my house. It depends on what I can afford and what is available.”

Carrying her fish wrapped in a newspaper in her left hand and carrying a plastic bag containing rice in her right hand, Imelda moved to another stall with onions, garlic, and radishes. Near a stall displaying beans and squash and several varieties of rice, Maria stood looking at a piece of paper, her grocery list, in her hand. Soon the sisters had selected some beans, squash, and rice.

“How many times per week do you buy vegetables?” I asked. Maria’s face was more expressive than her sister’s. Her eyes seemed brighter.

“Two or three times,” replied Maria.

“What about fruits?” I asked.

“Fruits are different,” said Maria. “Bananas, mangoes, durian, and mangosteen. We buy them only when they are in season. And cheap.”

Imelda, Maria, Jogie, and I returned to the parking lot. Chuy was waiting in his taxi with the engine idling and the air conditioning at full strength. As the two sisters got into the back seat of the car, Jogie said to me, “They have to go shopping for food every day. They don’t have a refrigerator at home.”

Jogie paused. “If they don’t come here to the outdoor market,” she continued, “they buy food from vendors who pass through the neighborhood. Sometimes they buy food at small neighborhood stores, but food costs more there. Occasionally they will go to SaveMore.” SaveMore, I knew, was a conventional supermarket.

Journey

Inside the taxi, the air was cool. Chuy pulled out of the parking lot and into a line of cars moving eastward. “How much money do you spend for food each week?” I asked, turning toward Imelda. “About 2,000 pesos,” said Imelda. It was the equivalent of 50 dollars. “It’s never enough,” she added. “We have many mouths to feed.”

The distance from the market to the house in Royal Valley was about five miles. The traffic was light, and the journey was fast. We crossed the Davao River, following MacArthur Highway. On either side of the highway, lush vegetation spread toward the horizon. Here and there, banana plantations occupied large plots of land. Fields of other crops, such as red onion and eggplant, stretched away from us in long rows.

Chuy slowed as we approached a curve in the road. We found ourselves moving northwestward on MacArthur Highway. When we passed the SaveMore market on the left, Chuy slowed the taxi again. But this time he brought the vehicle to a stop and turned left onto a smaller street, called Taal Road.

“We’re entering Royal Valley now,” said Jogie. “We’ll be at the house in a few minutes.”

“How long have you lived in Royal Valley?” I asked, looking over my shoulder at Imelda. “Almost 20 years,” said Imelda. I looked at Maria. “And you, Maria? Two years?” She nodded. Rachel had told me that Maria and her husband, Arnold, and their daughter, Armane, with her baby, had moved into the house recently because they had nowhere else to go.

“They lived in Digos City before,” Rachel had said. “But then Arnold lost his job.” Digos City, 30 miles to the south, with a population of 150 thousand people, was much smaller than Davao City.

Turning off Taal Road, Chuy entered a small street. Imelda spoke then, and Chuy turned on another and a smaller street. Chuy slowed the vehicle, and we proceeded over potholes. The street was half dirt and half pavement. The biggest holes forced Chuy to stop and start. I saw a large creek stretching behind the houses on the left side of the street. Also I knew from looking at a city map earlier that another large creek cut through the other side of Royal Valley five blocks away, where the two creeks emptied into the sea. This part of Royal Valley was a flood plain.

Chuy brought the taxi to a halt in front of a one-story, unpainted house on our right. It was ten feet from the road. I looked at my watch. The digital numbers showed 3:15. Then I looked at the house.

It was a simple structure, starting on the ground with a foundation of concrete and finishing in the air with a mix of corrugated iron, wood beams, and plastic sheets. It had been built from discarded materials.

From the open front door, a man emerged. He approached the taxi. “I’m Bonifacio,” he said to me. He had a broad face, dark skin, and grey hair. I knew that Bonifacio worked as a forklift driver for San Miguel Brewing, one mile to the west on MacArthur Highway. According to Rachel, he had been a forklift driver for 37 years. She said he had purchased a lot in Royal Valley for 20,000 pesos, or about 425 dollars, in 1998 and built the house himself. “I’ll be right back,” said Bonifacio. He started walking down the road.

“That’s my husband,” said Imelda.

Heat

I took Imelda’s groceries; Jogie took Maria’s. We followed the sisters into the house. It was as hot inside as it was outside. The structure had one window in this front room, with no cross ventilation. The tropical heat stacked itself in layers. I saw one fan.

From the front door we passed through a living room with a table and two metal chairs against a front wall and a sofa on a side wall. Then we entered the kitchen, where Jogie and I placed the four grocery bags on a small table. Imelda and Maria started to remove the food. The room had one window.

While I watched, Imelda placed a black pot on the grate of a large, iron stove and started washing and cutting up the vegetables and dumping them into the pot. Simultaneously, Maria started cleaning fish. She discarded the heads and tails and intestines and cut the meat into chunks. Then Imelda opened a compartment of the stove and inserted charcoal into it.

“You use charcoal, not butane gas, for your stove?” I asked. “If I have 700 pesos for a canister of gas, then I use gas,” said Imelda. “Today, I don’t have the money.”

“Who usually cooks?” I asked.

Maria spoke in a low voice in Bisaya to Jogie, who translated into English. “Bonifacio fixes breakfast,” Jogie said. “Maria prepares lunch and dinner, and Imelda does a special request, such as a pork adobo.”

I saw two mattresses propped against a wall. Rachel had told me that Imelda and Bonifacio used one to sleep on the floor in the living room and Maria and Arnold used the other one to sleep on the floor in the kitchen. The seven children and grandchildren slept in the bedroom.

Beer

In the far corner of the kitchen, I saw two doors, both of them closed. I opened one door and glanced into the interior of a bathroom. A sink, toilet, and shower occupied a tiny space. The room had a small mirror above the sink but no shelves. I wondered how 11 people could use one bathroom. When I opened the other door in the kitchen, I found myself looking outside. In a small yard, I saw clothes hanging from a wire. Blouses, shorts, and undergarments were drying in the sun. I stepped into the yard. Several plastic buckets—blue, red, and green—rested on the ground.

Thirty feet away, the yard terminated in a bank of dirt, weeds, and bushes. I took several steps forward. Beyond the bank of bushes was the creek. The water was fast-moving. A series of paper cups and plastic containers was caught in the leaves of the bushes. Suddenly, I heard Jogie speaking. “The children can’t play in the water. They’ll get sick. By the way, Bonifacio has returned and wants you to join him in the front room. He bought beer.”

I hesitated. The creek was high because of the rains, and there were now dark clouds overhead. If it rained again and if the creek rose another foot, it would flood the backyard and, possibly, all of the rooms in the house. I followed Jogie back inside.

Rain

In the front room, when I sat down in a green armchair in a corner beneath a window with a view of the street, I thought it would be cooler, but I was wrong. To my right was a doorway, which provided a glimpse into another room, a bedroom. I could see vague shapes in the room.

“My daughter and Imelda’s daughter sleep on the bed in there with their babies,” Bonifacio said. “Anthony and the two little girls sleep on the floor. It’s crowded. We didn’t plan it. People just showed up.”

In front of me, Bonifacio sat on a chair and stared at the floor. On the table next to him were a 1-liter bottle of Red Horse beer and two glasses. Bonifacio poured the beer and handed me a glass.

A small girl emerged from the bedroom. When she saw me, she walked over to me, took my hand in her two hands, and pressed the back of my hand to her forehead. It was Lila, Martha’s second daughter.

A tiny TV in the opposite corner suddenly flickered on and off again. “The power does strange things every day. We can’t depend on it,” Martha said. She looked at me.

Bonifacio watched. He said nothing. I could hear the rain coming down hard on the street in front of the house. When I turned to look out the window behind me, I saw the water filling the potholes in the street.

Three Men, Davao River, Davao

Flood

Jogie and I sat in Chuy’s taxi on MacArthur Highway parked near the bridge over the muddy and swollen Davao River. We watched the dark water as it rose.

“The storm is dangerous,” said Jogie. “It could flood Bonifacio and Imelda’s house. They would have to pack up and leave since nearly everyone in the house sleeps on the floor. Their house flooded last year.”

“What was Maria upset about?” I asked. She had been crying in the kitchen while I had been standing outside, in the back yard. When I came back inside her face was red and her eyes were dark.

“Armane and her baby have disappeared,” said Jogie. “Martha found a note from Armane at the bottom of the closet in the bedroom while we were at the market. Martha and her daughters were taking a nap when Armane left.”

“What did the note say?”

“That Armane was going away with her boyfriend and would not return. She didn’t like living with her mother and father and the rest of the family.” Jogie was quiet for a moment. “But the most serious problem is that Armane is a bad mother, and her baby is sick. We are afraid the baby will die if Armane does not get help.”

“I’ll tell Rachel,” I said.

“Rachel already knows. She can’t do anything.”

The Hawker Lane offers classic Chinese and Asian cuisine like the Yang Chow Fried Rice which you can pair nicely with the Sweet & Sour Pork.

Five acts heat up Manila stage for K-pop World Music Festival 2019

A variety of k-pop acts graced the stage at the Mall of Asia Arena last June 9 for the K-pop World Music Festival 2019. Thousands of fans gathered at the venue to witness their favorite idols perform live. Ryan Bang, a South Korean TV personality who’s active in the local entertainment industry, served as both host and interpreter for the event.

The first artist who took the stage was Sohee of the five-member girl group Elris and runner-up group of South Korean reality show K-pop Star 6, KWINs. She showcased her explosive dance skills in her opening number, ‘Mannequin’. After a brief introduction, she continued wow the crowd with performances of her other singles, ‘Spotlight’, ‘Hurry Up’, and ‘Bloom’.

Kim Donghan - known for his participation in the TV show Produce 101 Season 2, as well as his stint in the now-defunct boy group, JBJ - opened his set with the single ‘Sunset’, followed by ‘Good Night’, a track from his second EP, D-Night. In his interview with Ryan Bang, he expressed how good it felt to be performing again for the Filipino fans. After his energetic ‘Focus’ number, Donghan captivated the audience with his song ‘Idea’, and his last number, ‘Ain’t No Time’.

After more heart-racing performances from Donghan, Sohee once again graced the stage, but this time with her other members from Elris. The crowd wondered why only four members performed their songs ‘Summer Dream’ and ‘We First’. They got the answer during the group’s introduction, when their leader, Bella, appeared on stage with a cast around her right leg due to a recent injury. She said she felt sorry she wasn’t able to perform with the group, but she still wanted to come up on stage to greet the fans. Afterwards, the girls performed their other tracks, ‘Heart Bank’, ‘Will Be Mine’, and ‘Pow Pow’ all the while charming the audience with their cute antics.

A sea of green lit up the arena in preparation for the next act, which was NCT 127. SM Entertainment’s Korean unit of Neo Culture Technology toured around North America for the past months and recently launched their fourth EP, We Are Superhuman, which gained a lot of recognition for debuting at number 11 in the Billboard 200 albums chart. The members performed their older singles ‘Firetruck’ and ‘Cherry Bomb’ then impressed the fans even more with powerful showcases of their more recent songs ‘Simon Says’, ‘Regular (Korean Version)’, and ‘Superhuman’, the title track of their newest album, We are Superhuman.

Once NCT stepped off the stage, the crowd roared in anticipation for the last act of the night, five-member girl group, Red Velvet. Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, Joy, and Yeri strut on stage and opened their set with their 2017 chart-topping summer anthem, ‘Red Flavor’. The audience went bananas for their next number, ‘Power Up’, which was the title song for their 2018 summer comeback album, Summer Magic. The girls were all smiles during their introduction and pointed out how great they felt to be back in Manila after 4 years. They went on to serenade the audience with one of their b-side ballads, ‘Moonlight Melody’. Ryan came back on stage to interview the girls about what they wish to do in the Philippines if they were given a longer stay. They all agreed that they wanted to see more of the country’s beaches, as well as try Philippine cuisine. It was also revealed that Joy’s younger brother is finishing his studies in the country, so she’d love to visit local places with him. To the fans’ delight, the group performed their sultry R&B track, ‘Bad Boy’. Finally they closed the event with the scream-inducing title track ‘RBB’ from their 5th mini album of the same name.

Albay is more than just a destination – there’s so much more.

A monstrous perfect cone shape volcano lies here. Definitely, its our province’s pride, region’s rather. Not just that, but there are more destinations that have never been featured and commercialized which awaits discovery. This mountainous province mostly green because of the strewn fertile plains and hills or mountains often a river running through it with good governance and receives awards and focuses in good quality education and health care is known as Albay. Looks like you are not buying it if I said Albay is a paradise in disguise, but that’s a truth. Just the natural wonders situated in it are the living evidences. Nature doesn’t lie.

Living in Albay feels like living in a paradise, for it can provide you a serene and simple life that lasts for a lifetime with majestic views to mesmerize. It is also a great escapade worth returning back, again and again once you have visited it. Once you have heard about it, eventually you would like to visit Albay soon. So, let me introduce you another destination good for a trip to be added on your list. But first, let me tell you a brief history.

Albay province is situated in Bicol region. Legazpi City, the capital of Albay was named after the Spanish conquistador, Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. In 1565, he started the massive colonization which resulted for Albayanos to became devout Catholics. Albay is a province composed of 15 towns and 3 cities. Daraga on the other hand, is a town bounded on the north and east by Legazpi City. The municipality of Daraga and Legazpi City is shown in the picture.

The picture taken from Highlands and is suppose to show how everything in Albay are connected. From the municipality of Daraga to Legazpi City and vice versa. On how one another is related to the progress of each one. In the picture some most visited places were included such as the crown jewel of the region Mount Mayon Volcano, spectacular 360 degree view from Ligñon Hill Nature Park, new malls, and Sleeping Lion at Embarcadero. The other tourist spots like zoo of the town, Albay Park and Wildlife, reflection of Spanish fine arts with its renaissance gothic design combined with heavy baroque designed in Daraga church and numerous fresh spring resorts and beaches to its unique black sand beaches great for planning our family vacation weren’t included because of the vastness of the province that in a single photo can’t be taken. Even though, it’s not included all in a shot, it’s enough to tell that Albay is improving and changing to become a better place to live in.

Before taking the picture, the path I went through is an under construction road on top of mountains. Looking at both sides confirms that I’m absolutely in a rural place. Being surrounded by thin yet tall bear-fruiting trees with their leaves swaying and green huge field where farmers can be seen planting and houses made with nipa husks. With that being said, agriculture is the major industry of Albay. We are abundant of the production of crops like abaca, rice, sugar, and coconut. Therefore, handicrafts like mats,hats, bags, and slippers are some of the main sources of income in the rural areas. Seeing the upper side of the photo, a sea is shown. It indicates that fishing is the main livelihood along both shores of the province.

Local Cuisine won’t be out of the list of course. Dishes served from the 65 restaurants in Albay are borne from tradition to culture that is mixed up in a tantalizing melting pot of various flavors. I observed that we are fond of spicy foods such as Bicol Express and ‘‘pinangat’’ which are famous delicacies of ours. Last but not the least, savor Albay’s dessert, sili ice cream, that comes in varying degrees of hotness that catches gourmet’s attention.

It is said that, education and health are two of the main focus of the provincial government. Compared to other regions, Bicol has the most number of school and medical institutions as a ratio of its population. The provincial government aims for one college graduate for every family. Bicol University (BU) is a state university in Albay and this is where I attend school since kindergarten. Bicol University offers 67 degree programs with varying number of specializations spread into 14 academic units and offers a free tuition.

I must say that 17 years and still counting is a short period of time to tell how beautiful Albay is, but I had many good and unforgettable memories and experiences here in Albay, more specifically in Daraga. Albay province particularly showed the biggest improvement from among Bicol’s six provinces during this period and I totally agree with it. From the entry of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) like Sutherland followed by the construction of the first seaside mall Embarcadero, and then partnership between LCC and Ayala. After that, the opening of the Gregorian mall, the first shopping complex to feature a museum, which is now situated near in Albay Church. And recently, the ground breaking of the largest mall in the Bicol region, SM Legazpi. These offer thousands of job opportunities to Legazpeños and tremendous opportunities for franchising and business expansion. Legazpi has truly experienced a business boom in the recent years.

In addition, recently, Legazpi City was awarded: Legazpi City now Seal of Good Local Governance Hall of Famer, LEGAZPI CITY: 2017 PGS Gold Trailblazer Awardee, PCCI names Legazpi as PH’s ‘Most Business-Friendly City’, Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index Awards,etc.We were also featured in News for the good deeds like Throngs of volunteer plant thousands of trees of Mt. Mayon for Legazpi’s Valentine’s month celebration.

However, there is no a perfect community. It is natural to encounter inevitable events such as the recent erruption of Mount Mayon, typhoon Usman, and the Batocabe’s case. Nonetheless, Albayanos were strong to slowly recovered with the jeopardy and still keep string faith with God. With that, we were able to cope up in any peril that may come in our way.

Growing older, my dreams of living in the capital of our country wherein I can see mountainous buildings anywhere and more convenient transportation and stores, slowly fading away. Thinking about it deeply, the disadvantages of living there weighs more than the benefits I could get. I realized that Albay might not be as urbanized as NCR or other regions, but I can say that, I’m blessed that I’m introduced to a peaceful, simple, fresh, and happy province with lots of breathtaking sceneries, good quality education, and of course, mouthwatering delicacies to savor that can only be found in Albay or Bicol rather.
