i was talking about this on twt not too long ago but the hsr fandom has had phainon for not even a full week and already we have managed to dumb him down to a cutesy excitable friendly baby puppy.

now i don't disagree with the dogboy label. however! he is not merely a puppy. he is a deeply neurotic herding dog. give him a "job" to do and keep his mind busy and he's fine. perfectly friendly and playful to a point, maybe a little standoffish or particular about certain things, but like he's fine. just don't let him see the yawning abyss of boredom and discontent writhing inside himself or he'll start getting anxious and once he's anxious he's going to start making up things he NEEDS to do based off an imaginary set of Phainon Rules that no one likes or agrees with. these new "jobs" he has given himself will range from mildly inconvenient to actually genuinely destructive. and also he will periodically attempt to gnaw off one of his own legs out of stress

like. *scratching head loudly* are we looking at the same guy...? phainon is not a bouncy, excitable, happy-go-lucky character. he's amicable and likes to keep the peace, he's generally polite, he seems to genuinely enjoy meeting new people, he likes to play around and joke, but like. he's a deeply troubled, restless man deflecting concern and his own indecision and anxieties with a smile. and personally i felt like his mind was somewhere else in over half the interactions we had with him

because like, he's an inner brooder. whatever disaster befell his home haunts him, weighs him down with every step he tries to take. the chrysos heirs haven't actually won all his loyalty and devotion; that still belongs to his home. so he's got a war of priorities going on in his head at all times. he understands he has a duty and obligation to go save the world or whatever, but... he doesn't... want to? he never asked to be a hero, and he deeply resents the world for forcing him onto this path. he is so, so dissatisfied and so, so close to up and running and vanishing from everyone's radar. this is why nikador felt the need to give him a personalized trial, and this is why i think he's going to fail and the coreflame will go unclaimed (unless mydei stops moping around all the time)

and this is REALLY interesting because aglaea repeatedly describes him as a perfect hero. she's insanely smart and sees through everyone's bullshit. so. she KNOWS he's discontented and restless and anxious and unsure, and for some reason - some piece of information about the many prophecies floating about amphoreus rn - that is what makes him The Perfect Hero. from her perspective anyway. the world apparently needs a hero that doesn't know if he wants to bother saving it. why?

we could be having some fascinating discussions and theories about the implications here and what phainon's role in the prophecy will actually end up being but i. i see we would rather puppy-ify the guy. and not examine him any further than that. ok, that's fine i guess

i started watching pantheon!! like i finished season 1 on netflix and now watch 2 on "somewhere else" 🤫 because it's so good and im not waiting for it to possibly maybe one day get on my streaming services 😭 and why is there no fandom?? i need to scream at the top of my lungs to someone abt this show it's so good i might have to add some fics and art if i can get myself to 🤧

Although imposter is mainly shown dealing/helping with others im sure he has got some issues Besides recovering from the killing game and trying to be a better person. Ok first thing,imposter tends to serpress his emotions,like he barrys any thoughts he doseint want to deal with in the back on his mind so he doesn't have to deal with it. He doseint unpack his thoughts often like when he said "ill unpack this later" he never did. Ok next,they hate mirrors mainly because they probably hate there real face,i mean there body is one thing theres nothing extremely discernable about it. But there face is different. When ever they look at there face all he sees is an emptyshell of a man they dont remember being. They weren't allowed near mirrors for awile. And last thing, He felt guilty for lieing to them for so long that he often questions why his friends actually like him.

hello, anon!!!!

i DID watch the substance!!!!! i was able to see it last week with a coworker who’s REALLY into horror and we weren't sure what to watch between this and longlegs, but in the end fate (a coin flip) decided for us

quick review: i liked the movie overall, but im not as in love with it as my coworker and pretty much everyone else seems to be. im also never gonna watch it again in my entire life ;;;;;;; (but that’s on me)

slightly longer review (i swear im gonna try to keep it brief): let me start this by saying that unfortunately i am not the biggest fan of the body horror sub-genre because it’s one of the very few things that can actively be triggering to me, so as much as i try to be objective about the media i consume, this is the one instance where i really have a hard time doing that. i still willingly watch body horrors because i really appreciate them as a vehicle for social commentary, and it was no different for the substance: i admire the messages it conveyed about systemic misogyny, and internalized sexism, and self-hatred, and the inhumanity of the anti-aging industry, and the brutality of fame, and i think that watching such a poignant portrayal of the violence against the self could be a very healing experience in a way. i definitely came out of it wishing to be a little bit more accepting and kinder to myself

it's also a visually stunning movie, i really liked the cinematography, especially when it referenced other movies (although it got a bit too much at some point imho), and demi moore's performance is PHENOMENAL

all that being said, and without spoilering it, i personally think the movie would have benefited from a little bit more subtlety: the choice of partially super-imposing prior scenes over current ones and inserting voiceover flashbacks to earlier bits of dialogue honestly made me wonder if the director didn't trust the audience at all. im also not sure if the last act did the movie any favor. i really do understand why they went so over the top and what they were going for with it, i just feel like the tonal shift was very jarring and kinda derailed the momentum of the entire moviet

his is just my opinion tho!!!!! which..you didn't ask actually so im sorry if i kinda got ahead of myself ;;;;;;;; but in case you were interested in it, i think overall it was a good movie and im glad to have watched it (even if it did give me a panic attack ;;;;;;), however i do believe the execution could have been better

Nothing quite cements the ‘oh this hurts but I’m glad I did it’ moment than when someone mass reblogs a ‘how you can fall for antisemitic lies’ post after you tell them that being a Zionist is awful actually and you can’t be their friend any longer.
