Close ups from my FIRST embroidery at the Royal School of Needlework! We had to embroider a GIANT stitch sampler that was designed by an embroiderer in the year above. Second pic shows my first attempt of long and short stitch.Happy times for me, it was the first time I had stitched on or heard of a slate frame and had to learn to stitch with two hands. Loved every minute. It's finished! It's a little wonky in spots due to being on a dishtowel, but overall I'm pleased with how it turned out. This is designed by myself with the help of @twirp.with.a.vest for their brand new apartment. 😊 I used straight stitches for the body in order to give texture to the fluff found on a honeybee, and satin stitch for the head and eye. “I’m Sorry For What I Said When I Was Young, Dumb, & Scared.” A therapist turned me on to writing letters to people I no longer am in contact with, but need to tell something in order to feel closure. Naturally these letters never get sent, but destroyed in some cathartic way. I wrote one such letter last year, this sentence flowed onto the page and has stuck with me ever since. I finally made it last month, beginning to end took about 11 hours. From drafting the lettering, ironing the fabric, transferring the design, selecting the color palette, and then stitching the letters and freehand stitching the decorative elements. This is actually the first of 2. I finished this one and sent pictures to a bunch of friends because I was so excited and one of them responded basically “I love it, send me an invoice, take my money”. And so with this one selling instantly and me already having the design, fabric, and color palette worked out - made a second one (my recent reels showcase that one, although I will probably also post a picture of it soon to live on the main profile feed). So that’s the story. Since I already have the lettering layout I am considering making more with different color palettes as well.
