HELLO EVERYONE!! IT'S BEEN A SECOND BUT I'M BACK BECAUSE BSD JUST DROPPED A BOMB OF CONTENT (AND ITS STILL COMING. TMMRW IS CHATPER 108) The convention in LA with Asagiri sounds SO SO SO FUN. And Asagiri sounds so kind!! Here's some things that people on Twitter have told us that he said/did + some other info ya'll might find interesting (I NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS STUFF): 1) He said he loves Sigma!!! This is great except for the fact that he also loved Oda ahahhaha (im scared)!! When asked about who to pay attention to in the next season he said "SIGMA!... and the rivalry between Dazai and Fyodor." (He loves the Meursault girlies!!) 2) He repeatedly showed how he loves the side characters of BSD, he's a king. exhibit A: “I really like writing characters who are not strong, like Sigma Mushitaro and Pushkin. I don’t think these characters don’t have any special qualities are interesting.” Specifically, he said “I love Sigma” exhibit B: It seems like you like writing rivalries. Which one do you like writing the most? "I think the one I thought the most thoroughly through is the relationship between Dazai and Chuya Personally, I’d pick Yokomizu and Mushitaro"
3) Read this Twitter thread about other things he said, some of them are pretty funny and I don't want to just rip off this persons hard work because they worked hard to document all of this for BSDtwt!!!: (2) Kalai Chik on Twitter: "Bungou Stray Dogs panel presented by Yen Press #AnimeExpo2023 https://t.co/PEdQdg468j" / Twitter OK. now some things that weren't in the thread I just linked... BSD S5 WAS PREVIEWED AT THE EXPO AND IT DOES NOT START WITH STORMBRINGER!!! IT'S JUST A CONTINUTATION OF THE MANGA WE HAVE WON. (This means that there will probably be a Stormbringer movie ANNNDDD not as many things will be cut off due to it beign shoved into the main series LOL) AND. Asagiri said that he wanted to work on a movie soon. Somebody supposedly called out "Stormbringer?!" and he RAISED HIS FIST!! HE'S ONE OF US. MY FAV AUTHOR EVER. (source: (2) silence ✦ AX2023 bsd fans followme im twt limited on Twitter: "someone shouted "stormbringer movie?!" and asagiri gave a fist in the air so i think its over for us" / Twitter ) He said he's sorry about the half chapters and that he's trying his best!!!!!! DON'T STRESS THE MAN!!!!!! (source: (2) jo | AX on Twitter: "HES SORRY ABOUT THE HALF CHAOTERS BUT LIKE HE SAYS HES TRYING HIS BEST😭😭😭" / Twitter ) OK. A lot of other things were said but those are probably the things I'm thinking about the most rn..... Now enjoy this silly sketch I did of Dazai relating to a donut. This also has something to do with a thing Asagiri said LOL (READ THE THREAD!!!!!!!!) PS: Chapter 108 is coming, tomorrow. I have no idea what it will contain but I'm excited!!!

Thinking about Chuuya- specifically in reference to school aus.
Because Chuuya is SMART okay. He is one of very few people who can keep up with Dazai's chaos, from a combination of knowing him for so long and also from just being smart himself. In stormbringer, Chuuya is shown to at least accurately estimate the answer to rather complex physics equations that cannot be done in your head. He does it anyway. He has an advantage in this where he himself needs to be very concious of gravity and its affects and how it works, and he also has years of first hand experience with how it works he can apply practically to the situation to make estimates easier based on prior knowledge and experience. However, the biggest detriment to that in Chuuya has probably never seen the inside of a school in his life.
It's reasonable to assume that he receives some form of education in the PM as a teen, especially given the fact he needs to work with numbers for running the jewel market. He runs that market with the most success it's hard in years if I recall correctly, while likely not knowing his seven times table. (In chuuya's defense- I don't know my seven times table either and I have a HISTORY with physics that is actually largely sunshine and rainbows so.)
but he does physics that people who've been in school for YEARS fuck up. Mentally.
So he's far from stupid.
However- I am a firm believer in the Chuuya doesn't preform well in school. Regularly a B or C student. He doesn't fail, but he's not scoring the marks he could be.
Because things aren't explained the way he needs them to be. He questions why things work the way they do, explores other possibilities to a point where he confuses himself over the material because school only ever covers a surface level explaination of how and why things work, and expect students to just get it.
When Chuuya does understand something, he UNDERSTANDS it. It becomes common knowledge to him, he can remember it and apply it well in classes, any grades or scores on in class work about the material is scored high. But the second he's under test or exam conditions, he just blanks. It's not the stress or pressure, because he works well under both. It's the lack of practicality to it. It's question after question with no running line he can use to tie everything together and get it the way he needs too. On top of this, he doesn't understand the questions, with nuance and implications his brain isn't wired to pick up on, taking questions literally in a way that costs him marks repeatedly.
If he was in a college or university, he would do so much better, even under test and exam conditions, but while in high school I think that environment just would not work out for him.
As I can make anything about skk, the countermeasure to Chuuya not understanding the way certain things are explained is that Dazai explains them better in a way that's understandable and fills any of the gaps in his knowledge that trip Chuuya up because it should be 'common sense'.
In my head the ada and pm have a joint study group held in Fukuzawa's classroom after school onnnnn... hm. Tuesdays. Because by then the topics for the week have been established, and they each should have had at least one of each class. They all work on their school stuff until everything is covered and then they just watch a movie on the board in the class because it shuts them up (totally not because Fukuzawa has just a little bit of a soft spot for the rowdy group of teens all pressed up against each other sitting on the floor on a random tuesday in early decemeber because none of them really want to go home and it's too cold to go anywhere else. It's not like they're causing trouble or being annoying- they're watching Barbie princess and the popstar for the third time this term.) and they're not causing any harm.
Chuuya isn't the only one who struggles like this, just maybe the one who does so the most, but he would be an incredible physicist, and through support from a few of the nicer teachers and his friends, I'm sure he'd find a way to do well anyway.
I do know he'd get to college and have a realisation like 'huh? learning is actually kind of enjoyable' and that'd be it. He'd become a certified genius. A gilmore girls extra, if you will.
anyway autistic + dyslexic Chuuya who stuggles in school agenda is real.

Lippmann with assistant darling, a concept:
You’ve always been good at your job, did all that he asked for with no complaints and go along with what he had in mind, that’s why he likes you so much. You don’t really know or expect just how deep that “like” runs, it’s not even just fondness anymore it’s obsession, he doesn’t know when it took for a turn but it did at some point. Does he want to go back? Never, not really.
He realizes he likes you and he’s deep into the pit of desiring you to be with him. He’s nice, and he keeps an eye out for his reputation but there isn’t anything bad if he gave you a bit of a raise, yes? You deserve it after all, along with a lot of other nice things in life he could get ahold of—
Tumblr media
being his assistant - yandere!lippmann (bsd)
Tumblr media
includes ; lippmann (bungo stray dogs stormbringer)
warning ; yandere themes, mentions of murder, mostly soft!! <3 still yandere. i talk about the reader's hair here so if you're bald then i apologize 👍 also a gaslighting joke but i think he'd do it
note ; I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THIS. GIGGLIGN AND VIOLENTLY SHAKING AND CAUSING AN EARTHQUAKE. I COULDNT REALLY TELL IF THIS WAS A REQUEST (PROBABLY WASNT) BUT I WANTED TO WRITE MORE FOR IT ANYWAY SOO
Tumblr media
being lippmann's assistant was an easy job, really. no issues, aside from maybe a jealous fan who thought you were kept too close to the famous actor you worked under.
you caught him staring on numerous occasions. he was just so kind, wasn't he? you know how some famous people aren't as nice as they are when they're interviewed? this just wasn't the case for lippmann - he was perfect, exactly how he presented himself to the public.
sometimes, no — more often than just sometimes, lippmann gave you gifts and compliments. little hair clips, rings or any other accessories from recent movies that he got to keep? why, of course, it goes straight to you! just take the gift, it reminded him of you the entire time he filmed! he made sure to say that the thought of you helped him focus on set. he was just so kind, wasn't he?
lippmann always found himself touching you. was it an arm on your shoulder while he thanked you kindly for bringing him the drink — your choice, of course. go ahead and get yourself a cup of the same thing. he wanted to know your favorite. chances were, he'd ask for the same drink again — or was it the way he gently placed his thumb on your cheek, taking your focus away from the papers of this week's schedule and to him. he would tell you it was dirt on your face, but he kept his thumb there for another moment before straightening his tie and walking away, back to whatever he was doing while your face had flushed from his sudden affection. was there anything on your face? nope!
obviously, your paycheck was smaller than his. you could afford nice things, but of course, lippmann could always buy clothing with the nicer fabrics, and just about everything else with better quality. he knows that you don't have the money for things as nice as he does, but you get around just find with about half of what he makes, aside from any other forms of income he has. the man enjoys buying you things. no matter how much you protest against him spending that, you come to an agreement that you'll pay it back to him. does he let you pay it back in the future? nope, he probably gaslights you 🫶
this is.. obsession. what started as a fond liking to you had escalated and grown to a deep infatuation. lippmann has a good name out there, and getting blood on his hands for you? he'd do it, absolutely. as much as he would love to kill someone who wronged you, you can't get revenge and keep a spotless reputation.
but being a part of the port mafia, he has his ways, doesn't he? lippmann has good connections, and while you don't exactly know other than his relations with the legal side, he still has the ability to get a target on that person's head. who from the organization would pass up an opportunity to kill someone for money?

Here it is: Choco Ball x reader and Choco Bar x reader, your choice of platonic and/or romantic :)
(Context: I'm currently making a whole puzzle hunt based on Stormbringer and the three deities. Rain Deity's round will consist entirely of puzzles inspired by CR fanworks. This round has two slots left whose answers happen to be a movie title and an obscure soccer player!)
Tumblr media
→ ❛A goal worthy of a movie❜
Tumblr media
→ Characters ; Choco Ball Cookie & Choco Bar Cookie → Quote ; N/A → Genre ; Headcanons → A/N ; Here we go, this was quite fun to do! I let the rom/plat to a coin toss and Platonic won!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Choco Ball Cookie
“Hey! Y/N! Came to train?”
You two are good friends, best friends in fact, and Choco Ball wouldnt have it any other way.
You two most likely train together! Be it because you’re on the same team or simply because you both like to play soccer its its own thing but, whats for sure is that he loves spending time with you.
When he dosent feel his best, he resorts to you as a grounding point, and as his friend, you help him spring right back in, comforting him and letting him know mistakes happen, its ok!
Probably hangs out with you in the weekends, when he’s free and he can bring the whole group together, you and his sister, the life of an athlete is not easy, so he appreciates that you understand that he cant always be there for you, though he does try! He’ll always make time for you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Choco Bar Cookie
“Oh! Here’s my favorite number 1 fan, (y/n)! How are you?”
Always greets you with a smile on her face, be it right after a stunt or not, she’ll run right at you once the scene is over and she can greet you properly.
Loves, loves, LOVES seeing you on set, it brings her extra confidence (more than what she already has) to get through the day, and the excitement she feels goes through the roof!
If something goes wrong, she knows you’ll always be there to hold her hand and bring her right back up, thats why she trusts you so much! You’re her beloved friend, and that wont change.
Being a stunt actor can be quite a busy job, specially after being cast as lead actress for one of Butter Squid’s movies, yet that dosent stop her from making time for both you and her brother, always happy to see either of you.

Any predictions on what is going to happen in and after this arc?
I don't think I'm very good at predictions (╥﹏╥) I really can't guess what's Dostoyevsky's deal, but if else, that makes following the current manga events all the more exciting! Again, by the looks of it we're going to find out the backstory of a character that was first introduced in 2013, so reading the last chapter was a real “whoa” moment for me. As for the guesses I can take, it really doesn't go much further than:
Whatever is going on in the last chapter between Dostoyevsky and Bram is probably going to lead to Bram's demise as it was shown in chapter 102.
I think there's likely some connection between the scars (?) on Bram's face and the way medieval Dostoyevsky displayed an analogous one in the last chapter, because they're too similar to be put there randomly.
Something I haven't seen being brought up is the possibility of Dostoyevsky being able to time travel rather than be eternal, which even though doesn't feel like the most convincing explanation, I feel like it's too soon to fully exclude either?
Jokes aside, I don't think Akutagawa has any real chance to play a role in this, because it's evidently something that's happened in the past. And though the author looves time traveling shenanigans, that feels a bit of a stretch. Although the last attire we saw Akutagawa in did resemble a medieval aesthetic, so who knows if he doesn't have some other kind of connection to the events…
But I DO feel like the change in appearance must be telling of some new alliance. Likely something from Europe. We know the author is probably going to move the focus to European authors next, they already seemed to suggest so in an interview, and if God allows it it's finally going to be time for Agatha and the Order of the Clock Tower.
I. Idk. Have been growing an underlying suspicion that the 2-hours-later sskk scene is going to be a spinoff movie to come some time in the future. It's going to feature time traveling shenanigans (see the very limited timeframe skip) and Fukuchi coming back in a new weird form and sskk getting their rematch with him I have been saying they narratively deserve. Overall it's something that won't be covered by the manga à la Dead Apple, standalone and that can be skipped past. It does make sense marketing wise because it'll be years before the manga will have released enough content for another anime season, and given that the bsd franchise is comparatively very popular right now, I highly doubt they'll let the hype slowly die– that's also why I'm waiting for the announcement of a new Wan anime season any day now. I've said before it doesn't look like we're getting the cool sskk scene in the manga soon, and that it most likely solved the purpose of a teaser for the next arc for various reasons; the last chapter seemingly skipping past it seems now to confirm that. The very high quality of the animation of that scene in the anime might be a further hint in the movie direction, to be honest. (I'm only now realizing that if that's true, it means that we are not getting that scene in Harukawa's art style, and am suddenly hating everything and not want it to become true). That said, a Stormbringer movie seems likely too, so who knows.
Back to chapter 113. The jokes about Dazai not being included in the ada family picture are hilarious, and I do personally believe Dazai is more distant to the rest of the ada than other members; that said, I doubt it has anything to do with the panel itself, and as of now I don't think it's that deep ahah. In general, I find it very hard to believe that Dazai is the one that's going to be transferred to the pm: that feels to me a quite lazy direction to take storytelling wise. We already saw what it's like to have Dazai in the pm, no need to relapse to that. That's why, regretfully, I doubt Atsushi is going to be taken in either, because we already know what pm Atsushi is like (VERY very regretfully for me. Because I'd love more Atsushi screentime and because my brain quite automatically makes a jump from “Atsushi joins the pm” to “sskk canonly live together”. Also all the “sskk are Double Black 2.0” that has been tormenting sskk shippers since the start of time, might as well make them the New Double Black for real this time.). Tanizaki sounds like a good bet to be honest: because, on top of being the only ada member with a completely unexplored backstory, we already saw him interact with the pm a lot over the course of the whole manga, which can be taken as a slow build-up for the moment he ends up joining their ranks; from the pm perspective, since he showed to be a challenge for them in more than one occasion (he even intruded the boss' chambers once), it would make sense to try and get him on their side. And Tanizaki having already volunteered to join them in chapter 65. Honestly, everything seems to point in that direction right now.
I hope the following chapters also explain why taking the sword off Bram didn't kill him as previously established because as of now the seemingly plot hole is bothering me a lot.
That's all that comes to my mind right now, excited to see what the manga will be up to next!

'Thunder and lightning Heading your way Ride the rainbow Crack the sky
Stormbringer coming Time to die' — Stormbringer by Deep Purple
In other words:
'You've been thunderstruck' —Thunderstruck by AC/DC
Thyjs' theme playlist.
FIRST:
Yup! That's right – Thyjs is going to electrify y'all.
My original thought was that I've wanted to create a little playlist with thunder/storm/electro lyrics but then I stumbled over these songs in the list up there (first one shook me the most) and so I threw my original idea into the storm. Spending like two months on it now how to write down what I feel or see when I listen to this selection tied to Thyjs. So, here's his entire Playlist now: basically Introduction and fight theme songs as well as a calm one — like I did with V before but different.
Storm If I had to choose just one song for him, this one would be it. This awesome instrumental song is the ultimate standalone theme song for Thyjs. Like his goddamn introduction in a movie appearance. When I listened to it for the first time it just struck me like one of his lightning strikes. It is the only song that can be tied to the cyberpunk music genre since every song in the list is more classical soundtrack-ish (he needs that epicness. He's a godverdomme soldier). Back to the song: It sounds tempting right from the start with that beat giving you an overall Cyberpunk feeling at first, making you somehow feel alarmed because of the electronic sound. The air around you may feel electrified and you know something is coming. Then suddenly there is that melodic part setting in with those classical elements that literally screams 'Thyjs' to me. When I look at him I see; He's beauty, he is grace — but coming as an all through soldier package. No one would probably expect it but Thyjs does love to listen to classical music (piano, violin/cello and entire orchestra) of various known artists as well that is why it brought me on the way to look for songs like these in the list. It calms him down, especially after a long and hard mission. To me he feels unapproachable, like he's not from this world at all, yet he is. Wherever he goes in uniform or military gear, people will look at him with a certain respect. You're immediately drawn into admiring him because you probably ain't seen such a pale soldier like him ever before. He can make you feel like time stopped only to let you know with a loud thundering bang that everything you see is real and time is still running. That is when that part that sounds electrifying somewhere near the middle of that song, starts right out of nowhere. Sir! I'm so sold to it right now. I have to admit, the song is fairly long at 7 min, yet I recommend listening to it completely but the important parts really are the start and the middle.
Into the Storm is literally Thyjs getting ready for the battle that lies before him. Ride right into the storm, full force. It is like he can feel a storm is coming, with the storm being the enemies. You gotta know, Thyjs is a soldier to the bone. He devoted his entire life to it, trained as soon as he was old enough for it, to serve his country and Benelux Union. He's heroic in his own way. And that song does him justice.
I'm Electro A short song that strikes you after just a few seconds — the hard way. It represents that you gotta show some respect towards him if you do not behave correctly. He'll immediately put you back into your place where you belong, using his voice and electro shock (if you dare to enter his comfort zone) — like AC/CD would say: in the 'You've been thunderstruck' way (it's in fact exactly what happened to Ryder meeting Thyjs for the first time). Thyjs is capable of making use of electricity that is fed into his left arm, therefore also the glowing (Hanako) cyberware. The brighter it glows the more electricity Thyjs has to make use of. He already knew very early he was kind of immune to electricity after he grabbed an electrified fence feeling literally nothing. Once he lost his left forearm during a heavy battle with drones he decided to get himself some limb replacement that could make use of electricity since he literally survived a lightning strike as well on the battlefield during a thunderstorm, but more of that I'll keep for another time. That battle also gave him his nickname 'Storm', which he also uses as a code name. He can power up from any source that is running with electricity — Night City is full of it. He will give Arki and Ryder a boost if they need some as well. Ry gets himself Shock-n-Awe installed after having met his future lover for the first time. Thyjs even suggested the team to wear mods in their clothing gear if they do not want additional cyberware to their body because lightning can't be really controlled. It will always spread over to the next best source.
Storm Another Storm song (I wanted to decide for one of them but they are both so awesome I have to include them both). This one here seems to be a re-interpretation of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" and this song hits differently: Thyjs has Sandevistan — the Militech 'Apogee' Sandevistan Mk. V of course. So he's fast. Like lightning. The fast stringed instruments represent his fast acting and when that thunder sets in right at the start he vanishes into air. The only time you'll see him is before he starts and when he ends it, with the ladder it is already too late for you. The highlights in the song can stand for that if you are able to watch him in action you will be seeing him in between, avoiding incoming their enemies that are fast as well, sometimes he may even look gracefully, appearing for a moment, time pausing for max 3 seconds until he vanishes again just to reappear in a different place again, slaying his enemies one after another. You can hear exactly 3x a loud bang in that song around 2 min in — this is him starting with Sandevistan going for the enemy, then disappears, leaving only electricity behind, and lastly he shows up again, right in front of you with his Constitutional Arms M2038 Tactician 'The Headsman' Power Shotgun –BANG– three enemies on the ground, limbs missing, or even their heads exploded. He's able to load his shotgun within his used Sandevistan time but he often makes use of his toxic knife as well dealing severe damage to the enemy who will die because of poison going into their bloodstream.
Tempest It's like that epic battle song everyone likes and may even get goosebumps from. It is fast paced, tearing forward, to set one strike after another. See it as the last boss battle. The final big one. Before everything is finally done. Battle won, for Thyjs and his squad (when he was still serving) or the team he joins shortly after the incident out in the badlands that led to his whole squad being blown up and him being the only survivor. If you can't imagine Thyjs' fight style in some epic battle try imagine a combination of playing battlefield V and e.g. watching Final Fantasy Kings Glaive. Thyjs moves similar like Nyx Ulric, the warps with the weapons I mean, only he does not warp, he's just super fast with his Sandevistan but also leaving lightning behind.
Van Gogh's White Roses Calm moments incoming. Thyjs loves to play piano. The pretty tunes calm him down as he plays them, or even just listens to them. It is his way to chill and he could do it all day long appreciating the calm moments of his live thrice as much because as a soldier he is mostly on high alert (even if it doesn't look like it) and always prepared that every day could be his last. So better especially appreciate the little things in live and things that he loves: music, art, flowers and his new gained friends and most of all; time with his love: Ryder. The moment I decided Thyjs is Dutch was when I added the ears cyberware to him. Idk I just got reminded of Van Gogh in that moment. So Thyjs went to be Dutch, he loves Impressionism and is ofc an admirer of Van Gogh's art (I might do an extra post for that as well some time why I made Thyjs like Van Gogh).

Just a pattern in dazai as a strategist
Well, now that I've read @sorcerersandskillusers 's amazing post (if some of you still haven't, READ IT or you won't understand this one), I've come to think of how asagiri really likes to make card symbolism for the place that a character will take in a battle and in the story in general. (Talking of this, I wanted to make a theory based on it but still can't figure out which card game the Meursault arc could be).
Anyway, in dazai's case, that change between the king of club and eight of heart (the leader mori wanted to make him become and the the person who is centered on his relationships he is now, thanks to oda and chuuya even if he didn't make anything voluntarily) is kinda like a pattern with dazai.
I don't think it's just a before/after thing. Sometimes, he still acts like a leader, which translates into a king card (even though it resembles more the king of spade than the club one as this post shows). And well, oda says it : dazai changed the king with an eight of heart, but brought the king back afterwards.
Tumblr media
Also, maybe the reason oda doesn't know where that cards come from it's because it's something within dazai that changes when this happen (of course in terms of symbolism).
In each battle he is at first in the center of all the plan and places the pons, create occasions, and at some point he places himself in a situation where he can't do anything and all that follows is on the connections/ relationships he has with his allies. He places everything on this trust (first with chuuya, the with oda and now in approximately any ADA member, akutagawa and now sigma).
We've seen it multiple times already:
(⚠️15, Stormbringer, dead apple, the day I picked up dazai and dark era spoilers, for those who haven't read the light novels⚠️)
In fifteen, he literally abandon in the middle of the fight against Rimbaud for a moment, is inactive and then it's revealed by chuuya that everything goes as dazai planned it.
In Stormbringer whith the final not so final fight with all the ability users, he is indeed the gamemaster. But becomes a simple spectator when verlaine turns into guivre, and then mori convinces him to save chuuya and he elaborates a new strat for chuuya to save yokohama.
In the dragon head's conflict part, when he places the microacope hint in a conversation with chuuya and then go to the enemy and get captured. After that he waits for chuuya to take the hint and come save him, even though he can free himself alone.
With oda, he planned all situations but ended up letting oda save the day each time (the day I picked up dazai side A, and against a mimic member in the allyway, when he pushed the sniper to shoot him). It applies even for the tiniest of things...!
Obviously how he trusted that chuuya would come and rescue/punch him as the sleeping beauty after he took the poison in dead apple.
Even how he put everything in sskk and kyouka's hands to handle Francis and the fall of Mobydick, even though we know afterwards that he planned it all with ranpo and is therefore the king of clubs but inactif in the 'actual' battle, so somehow simultaneously the eight of hearts.
and later, still trusting sskk with the poison master in the cannibalism arc, before he tries to catch Fyodor...
Yeah, in EVERY fight, dazai chooses to let the people he trust be the key element to his plan and he just watches it unfold as an eight of heart, before it's revealed he was the one that made everything happen the way it did, and was leading everyone in the shadows.
And since the day I picked up dazai was made for the beast movie, meaning when the Meursault arc had already debuted and was probably thoroughly planned in Asagiri's head, I think it will apply in the Meursault arc too. No, I don't think... I'M CERTAIN it will. It's not because dazai is an eight of heart right now that it means he won't come on top at the end

i havent been able to find an updated version of the read order for all of bsd's (many) novels and spinoffs, would you have a recommended order?
have a good day!!
hey!
I would say that to some extent it’s personal preference.
You could read them in chronological order:
untold origins -> fifteen -> the day I picked up Dazai (not officially released in english) -> stormbringer -> heartless cur (bundled with volume 6 dunno if it’s in the official English release tho) -> dark era -> Kunikida and Katai’s Magnificent Days (not officially released in English also not sure about the placement on the timeline) -> entrance exam -> dead apple -> 55 minutes
But I’m gonna be honest I don’t think it makes too much sense to read them in that order as you won’t need knowledge of the books early in the timeline to understand the stories further down the timeline. You could also read them in the order of their release which is arguably the order in which the stories are intended to be experienced (although the anime messed with that order completely so who knows).
But I think it makes more sense to focus on which aspects of the story or which characters you want to explore.
Here is some silly little graphic I created (it probably won’t help a lot and is more a joke than serious but I thought it would be fun):
Tumblr media
this graphic is a bit deceiving because when I ask “which characters are you interested in?” these characters aren’t necessarily the pov characters just very central characters to the story and there are so many crumbs for different characters in each story (e.g. some interesting backstory bits about Akutagawa in Dark era and Entrance Exam too).
If you are interested in stories that focus on ADA dynamics I would recommend Untold Origins, Entrance Exam and 55 minutes.
If you are interested in Atsushi and Akutagawa I would recommend 55 Minutes and Beast.
If you are interested in how dazai and chuuya’s teen years were going you could start with fifteen and stormbringer. I would recommend reading fifteen before reading stormbringer since Asagiri intended Stormbringer to be a sequel to fifteen.
As Beast is an AU so you can read it whenever. Although it probably hits different after reading Dark era as Dazai and Oda’s dynamic is very important in Beast (The day I picked up Dazai -> Dark era -> Beast for maximum emotional damage).
I have no idea about bsd Gaiden tbh I think you can read it whenever as well. But other’s are probably more qualified to talk about that.
Novels that received manga adaptions are Beast, Dead Apple, Gaiden and Fifteen (ongoing). Dead Apple is an interesting case as the manga is more of an adaption of the movie than novel (as the novel is an adaption of the movie as well it’s the only one not written by asagiri) and the manga actually has additional scenes so it probably makes sense to read the novel and the manga together for a complete picture of the situation. Wan and the Anthologies can be read whenever as well.
I feel like this is all over the place if anyone else wants to chime in and has a more definitive reading order that makes sense to them please feel free to add it!
I hope this is at least kind of helpful!

besides tumblr, what do you do during summer break?
also what book/manga/movie/piece of fiction dealt you the most emotional damage?
Thanks for the ask!
For the first question: I do lots of random things, the most consistent is just watching youtube and flipping through obsessions to binge. But I also do random projects which I usually don't finish. A recent one was I restored an old pond near my house which was completely ecologically dead. after 3 years of on and off work its now full of life and I even found newts there recently which made me so happy.
My current project is turning a old field my family doesn't use into a forest, its really slow and tedious but I'm still enjoying it.
For the book thing, the answer is defiantly: The Secret Commonwealth by Philip Pullman.
No fiction has ever hurt me as much as that book, I have read/watched a lot of really dark, angsty, gritty etc stuff. But even compared to things like BEAST or Stormbringer, that book will haunt me forever. I wish I could put into words how I feel about it, but i will say even years after I've last read it (I refuse to put myself through that again) I still remember it perfectly.
(If you're planning to read it, keep in mind its part of a series and if you read it on its own it probably will have much impact on you.)

Let Chuuya Live Please?
So, I got like, two requests for this so here we go?
Let’s start with the fact that Dazai is smart, like, painfully smart. So much so that we all know that he is capable of predicting situations before they happen and plan accordingly. This is shown in Dead Apple. From the very start of the movie Dazai had known what would happen, and he had hidden a pill in his mouth for what would happen hours later.
Just by that we can tell that when he knows something is going to happen, he knows a long time before because if think about it, he had to have gotten that pill from somewhere right? An antidote for poison, and you can’t just take any pill of course, he had to have known which kind of pill he needed for it to work, either that being a pill that can deal with more than one kind of poisoning (if that exists, I’m not an expert) or a pill for that specific kind of poison. Of course, he had told no one about what was going to happen and while it is possible that Dazai had stolen a pill from Yosano, as a doctor, you can expect her to know just how much of what product or such she has, not to mention, if he tried to put a fake it wouldn’t take her long to know.
I don’t necessarily need find out exactly where he got the pill, all I know is that he obtained from somewhere before the timeline of movie. Maybe days before or weeks, all I know is that he might’ve known long before the movie that something was going to happen and that gives a good testament to his knowledge.
Now, why did I talk so much about Dead Apple? Because I think he could’ve (very hypothetical) told Chuuya sometime during it. Which sounds strange really because the only time they are seen together throughout the movie is in that one scene where Chuuya defeated the dragon and punched Dazai back to life all the way until Chuuya passes out and the scene ends.
But then comes the obstacle of Chuuya’s consciousness. He passed out fairly quickly which poses a problem in getting the message across. That’s why if y Dazai wanted to get the message across he had supposedly two options.
That time when they were falling from the sky, they must’ve been hundreds of feet in the air and I’m not sure if I should fully testament cinemtaic effect for the fact that they fell so softly and not to mention slowly for what must’ve been skydiving height, but if they were in the right position then it is possible that he used his heartbeat to communicate it to Chuuya as they descended, and it was obvious that at the time, Chuuya was more lucid. Directly after the use of corruption, for how many times we’ve seen him use it, there was, if I remember right, some time when he wasn’t delirious and maybe not completely alert, but alert enough to function, speak and think. Of course, once they hit the ground, too much time would’ve passed, and he’d get knocked out cold.
Before you tell me about Stormbringer. Keep in mind that that was the very first time he used it and it was a completely new experience for his body so there was no way he could’ve stayed awake after going through something so excruciating for the first time and probably for a bit longer than he normally does now as they had not known the limits at the time. But he has used it more than once and the more he uses it, the more his body gets used to it. It’s kind of like lifting weights, it doesn’t get easier, you just get stronger, you get used to it and as time goes on it becomes manageable.
His body became used to the activation of corruption, it did not get easier on his body, he could just handle the aftereffects better. Of course, there was the 4-year gap where he didn’t use it at all, but when you see him use it again at 22, he didn’t immediately go down, it took him a second at most. So that helps us get some kind of idea of how well his body can still handle the aftereffects. In Dead Apple, it took him a solid minute or two to pass out, but if you count that and the added time it took for them to reach the ground, I bet it was at least five minutes.
The second option seems just a bit less or more likely depending on how you look at it.
After the initial battle with Atsushi, Kyouka and Akutagawa, we get a scene where Akutagawa and Chuuya share a bit of small talk and besides from the injuries, he looked quite fine. He didn’t look like he’d drift off or as if there was something wrong with his head. No, he looked completely present and alert, well aware of what was going on and a very clear absence of Dazai.
We all know that Dazai has a tendency to ‘clean up’ after corruption. Who else but him would clean Chuuya’s face and retrieve his coat and hat? with that thought in mind, it’s clear that he stays behind for a few minutes at most after corruption, and with how awake Chuuya was, he’d have to have been awake for a while. We also don’t get to see exactly what went down before Dazai left. We saw them both and then it was only Chuuya.
So, what happened?
Of course, Dazai could’ve left before Chuuya woke up, but for the sake of the concept I’m working with here, lets cross out that possibility for a moment. Dazai could’ve easily waited for Chuuya to wake, he could’ve lied him on his chest and used his heartbeat to convey his message. Why would he have to do that? Fyodor probably. Season 4 actually gives me reason to believe this.
If you haven’t watched Season 4 yet than skip from this line to the next
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you’ve seen the scene where Fyodor escapes detection from Fukuzawa of all people, then you know where I’m going. Sure, it can be argued that he didn’t completely escape detection from Fukuzawa, he had turned to investigate the gaze at the back of his head, but the fact remains that Fyodor wasn’t caught. Fukuzawa didn’t even try to investigate, meaning he hadn’t thought there a need to check it out or something close.
Keeping this into account, that also means that he has been in Yokohama for years now and went without even being suspected as a presence there much less a threat. So how easy would it be for him to spy on anyone in the wreckage? He was given the perfect amount of hiding spots. He’s slick so with all those rocks and rubble, I don’t doubt that he could’ve snuck up on anyone.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And seeing as they are on the same level, Dazai would know this.
He would know and expect this so he couldn’t risk speaking allowed. So, what if he closed his eyes, laid back and ‘slept’. What if he waited for Chuuya to wake up. Knowing exactly how Chuuya would wake up in this situation. He would wake up, won’t open his eyes for a while because everything hurts. His eyes hurt from the physical adjustments that happen during Corruption and his ears are ringing at first, but the first sense he always gets back is his hearing.
Dazai will grab his attention with a signal using his heartbeat and Chuuya will stay and listen, because it is important when he does this, as begrudging as he is to admit. Dazai only does this on special occasions. So, for a few minutes they’ll lay there in silence. On the outside, it looks as if they are both sleeping, but in truth, Dazai is informing Chuuya of some very important information.
Granted, it is very early for Dazai to know something like that, so the plan may not be fully developed yet, but Dazai has some idea of what will happen and as time goes on the plan will become susceptible to change. The best they could do was find a way to keep in contact without being caught or seeming suspicious.
But we got a time skip after the movie. We don’t know what happened during the time we couldn’t see so anything could’ve happened. There could’ve been rendezvouses, secret meet ups, seeing each other every now and then and communicating in a way only they knew. Really, anything could’ve happened before those events.
Also, as a side note, why does no one talk about hod Dazai changed out of the white suit before meeting up with Atsushi and Kyouka? Maybe because he didn’t want them to see it, or because he had blood on it, or because he might’ve used the sleeve to wipe the blood off of Chuuya’s face, who knows.
Well, with that said, I’m too tired to check for errors in grammar or plot, I got basically all of it off the top of my head and I’m tired so do with it what you will Ig.

I’ve decided to throw my two bits into the ring on what order the remaining Light Novels are going to get adapted into the anime, since I was right about Untold Origins getting adapted for S4. Only very minor spoilers below, and none about the actual ongoing the-Agency-was-framed plot in the anime.
To exposit for anime-onlys, Bungo Stray Dogs currently has eight light novels:
Dazai Osamu’s Entrance Exam (this is the Azure Messenger case with Kunikida) Dark Era (this was adapted at the beginning of S2) Untold Origins of the Detective Agency (this was adapted at the beginning of S4) 55 Minutes (this is a case that explores ability limitations) Dead Apple (I’m not explaining Dead Apple) BEAST (this is an AU where everything is not where it should be) Fifteen (this was adapted at the beginning of S3) Stormbringer (this is a story about Chuuya)
As of right now, only three of the eight LNs have yet to be animated. Dark Era, Fifteen, and Untold Origins were all mini-arcs at the start of the second, third, and fourth seasons respectively, and Dazai Osamu’s Entrance Exam was kind of awkwardly shoehorned into the first season with most of Dazai’s role in it stripped out. Dead Apple got its own movie. As of now, our options of LNs to adapt are Stormbringer, 55 Minutes, and BEAST.
First off, I think BEAST is inapplicable. It got a live-action recently, they’re going to wait a while before they animate it, if they ever animate it at all. Which LN gets adapted into a mini-arc at the beginning of each season also seems to rely somewhat on tying it back to the current thread of that season, and other than the entire BEAST world being sourced from The Book, and its focus on Shin Soukoku, it won’t have anything to do with the ongoing arc.
Secondly, I think Stormbringer is unlikely to ever be adapted as a mini-arc at all, if the animation studio is being even slightly reasonable. I’m as eager to see Chuuya’s backstory play out on screen as anyone else, of course, but the fact of the matter is that Stormbringer is by far the longest LN yet. As far as the official English translations go, the median page count is 187, with Fifteen coming in at the shortest, with 152 pages. Stormbringer's page count is 340. It’s almost twice as thick as every other LN of the bunch. If they wanted to do that story even the slightest bit of justice and not compress it until it’s unrecognizable, they’d have to spread the “mini” arc out over half the season OR make it into an independent movie like Dead Apple. My vote is make a movie... so BONES, if you’re listening-
Thirdly, we have 55 Minutes. This is the one I see as most likely for them to adapt as S5′s mini-arc, if they even do one at all. They might not. 55 Minutes is centered around the actual scientific limitations of Abilities and Ability-users, and how those two things interact, and how various Abilities can interact and clash, etc. It also focuses heavily on Shin Soukoku, which will be relevant to this arc for reasons that anime-onlys will probably discover somewhere around the S5 finale. Eh, if you paid attention to the S4 opening, you’ll probably be able to guess why already.
So, yeah. My best scientific guess is 55 Minutes for Season 5, followed by a Stormbringer movie, and then maybe BEAST sometime somewhere when they get around to it.

Oh my gods that means this season ends with 110. They're gonna catch up all the way and I'm gonna have to wait another 3 years for another season but they're probably gonna give us stormbringer as a movie but my heart is gonna explode I can't do this. Studio Bones Why

what really confuses me about the anime cutting stuff out, is the anime is almost caught up with the manga now! that is never a good thing! that’s what leads to things like what happened with the fullmetal alchemist and tokyo ghoul and soul eater animes, to name a few off the top of my head. they’re either going to have to diverge from manga canon completely, or go on a major hiatus until they’ve got enough for another season, or adapt something else, since straightforward filler doesn’t seem like an option
i agree!!!!!! D:
i do think they'll adapt stormbringer soon. my guess is a 5 episodes ova sort of thing maybe (for reasons i am too lazy to explain rn but i probably mentioned before). or maybe they'll do like a 55 minutes movie or animated version of beast, who knows! it's actually a good thing that bsd has a lot of side content that can fill up hiatus time 🫡
either way they def need to put a pause on the main story for a few years to let the manga fill up, maybe finish the doa arc. idm a long hiatus if it means the future products will be better, yknow :? and bsd's anime already had a very big gap between seasons before so i def think it can survive that!
